What are your thoughts on Collaborative Learning? Will organizations be able to create learning environments to enhance informal and collaborative learning? Please comment and share your knowledge.
This study aims to investigate the benefits and challenges of Cloud Computing and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) in Higher Education. The review will focus on the best practices and challenges faced by organizations that have implemented cloud sourcing and BYOD in efforts to save money. Cloud computing is a service for delivering computer hardware, software, applications, and even entire data centers, on the Internet instead of having to spend a capital investment to offer those services locally. In this review, we will evaluate cloud computing from four perspectives: Data Security, Faculty Training, Teaching/Learning, and Cost. In addition, the “Bring Your Own Device” concept is rapidly expanding and has significant value for educators and students. In reviewing BYOD, we will evaluate and focus on the following perspectives: Policy Creation, Data Security & Network Reliability, User Education & Support and Teaching & Learning. With the increasing interest in academia for the use of innovative technologies, this examination will be useful for Faculty, Staff, and Students in effort to understand how “Cloud Computing” and “BYOD” can create a better learning experience, both in and out of the classroom. Highlighting the lessons learned during implementation will be beneficial for Information Technologists in efforts to provide a path for successful adoption and use while demonstrating the current trends, educational benchmarks for use, and future needs in research and development in both “Cloud Computing” and “BYOD” in Higher Education.

As ‘out of the box’ learning management systems become more associated with prescriptive, push-learning approaches, are they are in danger of becoming extinct? Recent years have witnessed the proliferation of mobile devices capable of running platforms for real time communication with others. Given the easy accessibility of such platforms, employees are now on the hunt for ever-quicker methods to acquire workplace learning.
Arguably this trend towards social learning could be considered high-risk in a business context, given that communications can't always moderated. But in a broader sense, what does it mean for workplace learning going forward – and how has it already changed things? This Slideshare presentation from Webanywhere considers some of these issues.

The term "collaborative learning" (CL) refers to a broad range of educational strategies including the combined intellectual efforts of teachers and pupils. Students are typically required to work in groups of two or more, looking together for understanding, answers, or meanings or producing a product. People will be able to collaborate with someone far away just as readily as they would with someone in the same room thanks to the usage of ICT in CL. E-collaboration tool enable users to contribute a variety of abilities to group projects that remove time, distance, and resource limitations. Face-to-face engagement is still important, but ICT can enhance it by enabling communication at any time and from any location. ICT functions for group work coordination, tools for tracking progress and providing feedback, libraries of solutions and best practises, as well as meta data, are all available as collaborative technologies. In order to facilitate collaborative learning in all areas of education, the following technological tools can be used: wiki, online forums, chat, video conferencing, email, blogging, learning management systems, virtual classrooms, Sticky notes, etc.
I have learnt a lot by using various Social Media tools. Blogs written by experts and wikis update me with the latest happenings in the e-learning world, while social bookmarking sites offer news, reviews, etc, and networking sites allows me to connect and collaborate with experts who are more than willing to share ideas, resources and experiences.
Social media tools have changed our lives for the better and made them much easier. What are your views on this? Share your thoughts on how social media tools have helped you in your respective fields.
Today’s organizations are faced with a number of issues related to an increasingly complex and unpredictable business environment. These issues have implications on training strategies for companies: it has become imperative to make the required kinds of knowledge available to employees, regardless of where they are, as soon as they are required. In a 2.0 learning organization, Web 2.0 tools are incorporated into the training strategy according to three models that are presented in the white paper: embedded, wrapped & community based learning.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Collaborative Learning – Is it changing the face of e-learning?
1. Collaborative Learning – Is it changing the face of e-learning?
The training industry, especially the e-learning industry has evolved from ILT, online courses, blended
courses to rapid e-learning, audio/video and a range of instructional simulations and interactivities.
Earlier, companies would convert manuals and instructor materials into slideshows for training purposes.
Now, e-learning programs offer engaging, interactive and virtual experiences. A year or two ago, when
recession affected industries, people focused on learning to retain their jobs.
Recent times have seen learning happen through social media tools. From YouTube to blogging, podcasts
to micro-blogs, social news and bookmarking to wikis, social media tools have taken e-learning to another
level.
The shift towards social learning is mainly because organizations have started recognizing the tremendous
need to build, manage and formalize their social and collaborative learning programs.
Organizations are rethinking their training strategies and models to accommodate learning programs
under ‘learning environments’ that offer collaborative learning and built in social media tools. According to
Wikipedia, collaborative learning refers to various methodologies and environments where learners engage
and actively interact to learn or attempt to learn something together.
A collaborative learning environment in an organization enables learners to converse with contemporaries,
present as well as defend ideas and perspectives, exchange diverse beliefs, question other conceptual
frameworks and get actively engaged. Learning in a collaborative environment can take place at any time.
It can happen when individuals are in discussion in a group or over the Internet.
Some organizations may offer ILT training on a need basis, but over 70% of learning happens while
reading, watching and listening or simply by talking with one another.
There are many new tools and platforms similar to LMS to manage, track and facilitate people to learn and
work together. It’s a matter of time when collaborative learning will happen on the move through mobile
phones, Blackberry phones and related mobile devices.
While Google has Google Wave, Microsoft’ SharePoint and Live Services, Adobe’s Connect, a few
companies such as Saba, Plateau and Taleo are creating new tools and platforms to facilitate
communication and knowledge-sharing.
What are your thoughts on Collaborative Learning? Will organizations be able to create learning
environments to enhance informal and collaborative learning? Please comment and share your knowledge.
