1960 PLATO (Programmed Logic for Automated Teaching Operations,
developed at the University of Illinois

1963 Ivan Sutherland develops Sketchpad, the first graphical user
interface for computers

1965 IBM, via Science Research Associates, Inc., introduces
COURSEWRITER, an online interactive CAI system in the 1960s.

1970 Computers first used in elementary schools in Saskatoon,
Saskatchewan, Canada

1972 Patrick Suppes, professor at Stanford University, developed
computer-based courses

1982 Computer Assisted Learning Center (CALC) founded

1997 Blackboard is founded, Corporate headquarters in Washington, DC
