Cerebral coenurosis, caused by the larval stage Coenurus cerebralis of the tapeworm Taenia multiceps, is a parasitic disease affecting the brains and spinal cords of sheep, goats, and rarely cattle. It causes neurological disorders. The disease severity depends on the cyst location and size and associated neuropathological lesions. It typically presents as either an acute form from intense larval migration following massive exposure, or a chronic form where bladder cysts develop in the central nervous system. The chronic form is more common and both forms can be fatal if left untreated. Humans can also be infected through consuming contaminated food with T. multiceps eggs.
