Claude Monet was a famous French impressionist painter born in 1840 in Paris. Some of his most notable works include paintings from his series on Rouen Cathedral, the Houses of Parliament in London, and water lilies. Monet helped found impressionism and held the first impressionist exhibition in 1874, where his painting Impression, Sunrise gave the movement its name. He spent many years painting his water lily garden in Giverny, France until his death in 1926.
