3.  The reaction between Acid and Base to produce Salt and
Water is called as Neutralization .
 The equation of this reaction is written as – ACID + BASE
 SALT + WATER
 In neutralization reaction a new substance is formed
called Salt . Salt may be acidic , basic or neutral in nature
.

4.  HYDROCHLORIC ACID (HCL) + SODIUM
HYDROXIDE (NaOH)  SODIUM CHLORIDE(NaCl)
+ WATER (H2O)
 In the process of neutralization heat is always
produced or evolved .
 The evolved heat raises the temperature of
reaction mixture .

5.  INDIGESTION : Our stomach contains hydrochloric acid
. It helps us to digest food . But to much acid in the
stomach causes Indigestion . To relieve indigestion , we
take an antacid like Milk of magnesia . The milk of
magnesia contains Magnesium Hydroxide .
 This neutralizes the effect of acid .

6.  ANT STING : The sting of ant contains Formic Acid .
When ant bites it releases Acid into our skin . This causes
itching and irritation . This effect can be neutralized by
rubbing Moist Baking Soda (Sodium Hydrogen Carbonate )
. This can also be neutralized by Calamine solution ,
which contains Zinc Carbonate .

7.  SOIL TREATMENT : Much use of chemical fertilizers makes
the soil Acidic . Plants did not grow in much acidic and much
basic soil.
 When soil is too acidic it can be treated by bases like Quick Lime
(Calcium Oxide) and Slaked Lime (Calcium Hydroxide) .
 If the soil is basic then organic matter is added in order to make
it neutralized so that plants can grow .

8.  FACTORY WASTE : The waste of factories contains acids
. IF they are allowed to flow in water bodies , the water
body becomes acidic and many aquatic plants and animals
may be killed .
 Factory waste is first neutralized by basic substances
and then the waste is thrown in water . This may not make
the water body acidic in nature .

9.  The rain containing acid is called Acid Rain. The
rain becomes when Carbon Dioxide , Sulphur
Dioxide , and Nitrogen Dioxide dissolves in
drops of rain to form Carbonic Acid , Sulphuric
Acid and Nitric Acid .
 This type of rain causes damage to houses ,
historical monuments and etc .
