Jane Yolen The Devil s Arithmetic
Do you really know what went on during the holocaust? Jane Yolen wrote a special book about how
life was like in the concentration camps. This book later turned into a movie. There are many
differences that go on in between the book and the movie, but there are also many similarities. I think
that differences or not, they both teach a valuable lesson. One by one, the deaths were added. One by
one the Jews were disappearing. The book The Devil s Arithmetic was written by Jane Yolen, and the
movie was directed by Donna Deitch. The movie was based off of the book, and they both were about
a Jewish girl, named Hanna. Hanna has to go to passover to remember about the Holocaust, but doesn
t want to go. At the celebration, Hanna celebrates passover traditions by drinking wine and opening
the door for the prophet Elijah. When she opens the door, she finds herself on a strange farm with
Jewish relatives. They end up being captured by Nazis and taken to a concentration camp. Hanna met
many new people at the camp. She experienced the harsh conditions the Jews were put through. Many
of the people she met ended up dying. These experiences were very difficult for Hannah. When she
finds herself back in her grandparent s apartment, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first difference is the age differences of Hanna. In the movie, Hanna is a immature, seventeen year
old girl that likes the wine. In the book, Hanna is a thirteen year old girl that despises the wine.
Another difference is that the wedding was actually finished in the movie, so Fayge and Shmule were
married before they were taken to the concentration camps. In the book, they could not finish the
wedding, so they were only engaged when they died. A final difference is that Rivka was actually
Hanna s cousin in the movie so they met right away, rather than in the camp like they did in the book.
It is a change because the characters care for each other more because they are

The Significance Of Strategic Bombing Of Germany
In this essay I will assess the significance of strategic bombing of Germany. I will do this by
evaluating four key areas of the German war effort. This will include German and British moral,
German economy, its effect on the outcome of the Eastern Front and the results of the preparation for
D Day. Overall allied bombing did not have a significant impact on the outcome of the war as for the
majority of the war bombing techniques and technology were primitive and so had little effect. It only
became a threatening tool latter on in the war, when the allies had effectively won.
One potentially significant area of impact caused by strategic bombing was its effect on German
moral. This is because it was expected to terrify and shock the German ... Show more content on

This panic combined with the bombing of a single rocket research station was enough to make the
Luftwaffe chief of staff, Hans Jeschonnek, commit suicide. The devastating effect of these events was
amplified by the fear of an invasion of Germany, due to the Allied forces landing in Normandy and the
Russians approaching from the East. However, because of the unreliability of bomber commands
performance the Nazis managed to quickly control the situation. They ensured that no photographs or
news reports were published from the bomb stricken reports meaning that the rest of Germany could
only gather information from stories and tales. On top of this only a small part of Germany was
bombed as the allied forces simply did not have the technology to reach the majority of the Reich.
That it was relatively easy for the country to regroup, resulting in heavy retaliation and a continuous
growth in German production. However, in the last years of the war bombing technology drastically
improved and the attacks were relentless. As opposed to less than one quarter of bombs dropping
within five miles of the target, each bomb now hit their target and inflicted maximum damage due to
new aiming technology. Bombing raids were now performed twenty four hours a day, in the night by
Bomber Command and in the day by the heavily armoured bombers in the American 8th squadron.
1,500 bombers were now available after a huge increase in production speed, each with the

Narrative Essay On Thanksgiving
Blessings on Thanksgiving When I was younger, I always imagined spending my Thanksgivings with
my family, watching the parade, and gorging on enough food that would make me regret it later. My
parents told me I had to complete a number of community service hours for my church in order to
graduate and become a freshman in the ministry program I m in. Even though I knew it was something
I had to do, I did not want to pick up trash or make food for others, which sounds so selfish.
Things have changed a lot since then.
My church offered to help me, and a few others who procrastinated just as I had, complete the number
of community service hours that I had yet to do. Of course, my parents forced me to take the
opportunity, even though it fell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The drive there was pretty depressing, because my sister thought it would be a great idea to send me
videos of my family playing football without me. Even my dog was playing outside with the rest of
my family. I felt so excluded, but I knew it was my fault. After thirty minutes or so, we arrived in
Paterson, and the anxiety set in. Now, I needed to be friendly.
I am the worst person at starting a conversation with people or continuing one.
We unloaded the bus and went inside a small white building off the side of Main Street, where at least
sixty homeless people were gathered, holding coats and shoes that had been donated to them. Many of
them were sitting by themselves, and seeing that broke my heart. I grabbed a packed meal and began
to make my way over to a man I saw in the corner of the room, crying. I was about to tap on his
shoulder and ask him what was wrong, but by the time I got to him, he had already seen me and began
to spill the details as to why he was in so much distress.
My wife and I had been waiting two hundred forty seven days for this day to be here so we could
bring my son a coat that he could keep forever. About two or three months ago, she died from
pneumonia, he

The Ever Changing Field Of Film Essay
The Ever Changing Field of Film The world of film has changed dramatically over the years and will
likely continue to change along with technological and professional developments. Like many modern
innovations, film has changed substantially over a rather short period of time, from black and white
movies to modernized color films. Still, it is impressive to think how far film has come, and looking
back into the near past affords an appreciation of the technology that no longer exists. Thus my
viewing experiences towards film have tremendously changed in recent years as I have become more
and more immersed in its world. I am not old enough to recall silent movies, but I most certainly
remember black and white movies that my parents used to watch on TV. In the 1980s, I always
wondered why some broadcasts were black and white, especially when I switched to another channel
that had color broadcasting. Personally, the only black and white TV show that I used to watch was
The Three Stooges (Ray McCarey, 1934). I enjoyed watching this show for its funny slapstick action;
however I did not enjoy watching it in black and white, as my focus was primarily on the main
characters and not the scenery or objects around them. Several years later, this sort of viewing became
a thing of the past because black and white films became less accessible in either television or movies.
Conversely, the advent of computer generated imagery, known as CGI, has changed the

Human Consumption And Commercial Fishing Essay
Human Consumption and Commercial Fishing have led to a depletion of Cod stocks, specifically, the
Atlantic Cod in the North Atlantic Region. The ecological, social and economic implications this has
on society is not only evident today, but poses long term consequences as well. Wicked problems are
characterized by social complexity. (stakeholders, incomplete contradiction knowledge, opinions etc.)
(Kolko, 2012) this issue may be considered a wicked problem because the Atlantic cod remain a
demand in human consumption and the commercial exploitation remains a factor in the depletion of
their stocks. The Interrelationship between consumers and fisheries is a very complex issue.

Students Should Be Taught In School
The things being taught in school are not always what need to be taught in order for the student to
succeed in life. The long math problems and odd questions and classes taken do not always help us
figure out the more important things people need to learn. Taxes and the classes that students would
most likely use in the career they wish to pursue are not always the classes taken or things taught in
school. Teachers should not always assign the most difficult or most outrageous problems in order to
teach us problem solving skill but teach us things we will actually use in everyday life. Students
should be taught the basic skills, that students still do not know how to do, that will be used
throughout their entire life. Taxes and learning

Abolishment Of Slavery In The 1860 s
Slavery in America began during the early 17th century and followed with the abolitionist movement
in the late 1800 s. This movement created a continental divide between southern and northern states.
In the south, there are the Southern Democrats who supported the idea of slavery and believed that the
institution was necessary for the survival of the south. Southern Democrats also argued that the North
turned their back on the real America. While the northern states were composed of Republicans, such
as Abraham Lincoln, whose efforts to exterminate slavery eventually caused the absorption of anti
slavery Whigs and most of the Know Nothing party. In the years that followed, slavery fueled the fire
that started the Civil War. The vast majority of southern states did not favor the abolishment of slavery
in the 1850 s nor 1860 s. On the contrary, the states divided themselves of the increasing problem of
slave versus free territories. The Compromise of 1820, also known as the Missouri Compromise,
admitted Maine to the Union as a free state in 1820 and Missouri as a slave state in 1821. In addition,
the compromise prohibited the use of slavery in all parts of the Louisiana Purchase north of the ...

The Importance Of Crop Biodiversity
Crop Biodiversity is a very important to the world we know. As populations grow around the world
people are going to consume more food. This can cause a problem without crop biodiversity. Crop
biodiversity is the outcome of the interactions among genetic resources, the environment and the
management systems and practices used by farmers. This is the result of both natural selection and
human interventions and human inventive developed over millennia. Crop diversity helps when trying
feeding growing populations with smaller amount of cropland. Crop biodiversity is used in several
different ways like pest control, pollination, pollution and sediment regulation, maintenance of the
hydrological cycle, erosion control, and climate regulation and carbon sequestration.
Crop diversity in pest control has made a big impact on growing crops in areas that are dominated by
pests that would eat up a crop as soon as it flowers. Crop biodiversity has made crops able to
withstand roundup and different types of pesticides, which keep pests off the crops while they are
growing. Thus letting crops grow to their full potential in area of the country that before crop diversity
wouldn t have been able to happen. This helps in utilizing land for growing crops to feed growing
populations when good land is being utilized for building structures.
Crop biodiversity is also used to keep food safety obtainable in the growing world of food safety
programs like the FDA. The FDA ensures every crop being

I Am Not A Boxer, And I Don t Battle Anybody
The individual I chose for my exposition is Muhammad Ali, and before you inquire! I am not a boxer,
and I don t battle anybody, in any case it interests me seeing such character which was not just one of
the best competitors of all time, he was also the front cover of Times magazines 4 times ever, could
take 100 thousand fans to a football stadium to watch a boxing match, but on the other hand was
conflicted as the twentieth century that helped shape and by whom was shaped. I appreciate such
characters, which can surpass all life troublesome and change history.
It was a hot and crispy morning in Arizona when one of the greatest legends of sports died after
fighting respiratory problems and Parkinson disease for over 30 years. If I could ask this one question
to Ali: Who are you? I am sure this would be his answer:
I am Muhammad Ali the greatest of the greatest... For many people this could be called exaggeration,
an excess of confidence, among other things, to me it could be simply summarized in one term Grit.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky in 1942, he had every one of the fixings to end up only a customary
individual. His house was not the most amicable environment for an African American individual
amid that time encountering childhood in the confined South, he experienced racial bias and partition
firsthand. Experiencing childhood in a low pay neighborhood was challenging, for example, when his
bicycle got stolen at 12 years old, Ali as of now showed early indications of

Genetically Modified Food And Drug Administration
A Fishy Modification The method by which food finds its way to our local grocer could soon change.
For the first time, the Unites States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering the approval
and release of genetically modified (GM) salmon into the American marketplace (Big Fish). Salmon,
of course, is just the brink of the biological possibilities. The possibility of the introduction of any GM
foods is monumental. Man s ability to increase the food supply guarantees major benefits;
nevertheless, modifying the earth s natural source of energy also promises detrimental consequences.

(GM Foods Harmful or Helpful). The Benefits of GM Food At first glance, the possibility an
enhanced food supply promises many possibilities. Generally, GM foods are thought to be the solution
the world hunger crisis. Today, the world s total population exceeds six billion humans and continues
to grow (Genetically Modified Foods: Harmful or Helpful?). In fact, the world population is predicted
to double in the next 50 years. (Genetically Modified Foods). Meeting this need will prove to be a
huge challenge, but research proves that GM food can ensure a food production schedule of 17% more
food than necessary for each human daily (Pros and Cons of Genetically Modified Foods). However,
controlling hunger is not the only benefit of GM foods. Other benefits include: Pest resistance
Herbicide Tolerance Growing GM foods...can help eliminate the application of chemical pesticides
and reduce the cost of bringing a crop to market. (Genetically Modified Foods: Harmful or Helpful?)
Every year, farmers lose crops as a result of insects and other pests. These loses require farmers to
utilize pesticides when growing crops to ensure production. There have been more and more health
risks discovered from the consumption of foods treated with these chemicals.

Indians Vs. The Constitution Essay
They are Native Americans who are trying to build better lives for themselves but are stopped in there
tracks by the state supreme court. Proposition 5 passed in November of 98, which would allow more
gambling in the Indian reservations. The proposition was ruled to be unconstitutional. Now the
Indians are rebutting the fact that they are sovereign and the ballot was passed.
Under existing law, Indian tribes operate as semi sovereign nations, and are liable under federal law
only. Recently, the long standing political and legal tension between the Indians and the government,
which has characterized the relationship since colonization, has entered into the debate over tribal
gaming. Indian gaming is not new to California. In fact, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many tribes contend that, as sovereign nations, they are not subject to state regulation. The state has
demanded the tribes to cease their gambling operations and enter into an agreement with the state,
which will allow quot;legal quot; tribal gaming. Some tribes have agreed to Wilson s demands,
recently signing the Wilson Pala Compact that provides state control of tribal gaming and also
establishes a limit on the size of gaming operations. The majority of tribes have refused to agree to the
terms of the Wilson Pala Compact, however, claiming that it is inflexible and grants the state too much
power over tribal affairs.
Proposition 5 provides the terms of a tribal gaming compact and requires the Governor to permit any
tribe to enter into the compact upon request. In general terms, Proposition 5 s compact contains fewer
restrictions upon tribal gaming than is provided for in the Wilson Pala Compact and is more protective
of Indian sovereignty. The differences relate to such diverse issues as the number of slot machines
permitted, the type of games authorized, the degree of state involvement in regulating tribal gaming,
employee rights, local community involvement, liability provisions, and the applicability of state
health and safety requirements.
Two constitutional concerns arise from the language of the proposition. The first is whether the
proposition establishes a statute, or

Research Paper On Gay Marriage Discrimination
Discrimination Against Gay Marriage is the Voice of Ignorance
Marriage is one of the fundamental establishments of the United States. As a young person, one looks
forward to many goals in their lifetime: career success, a good life, and very often marriage to the
person they love and a family together. This is one of the biggest parts of our American life and
culture. Very few heterosexuals would be willing to put their right to marry on a ballot for voter
approval, or even in their wildest dreams [nightmares?] have to consider doing that. However, in the
past ten years that is a prospect gay men and women are facing all over our United States. Why is

A homosexual still gets up in the morning and goes to work or to school. They still have dinner with
family or friends, participate in sports and community organizations and events. And yes, they still
hold stable relationships, just like a man and women would, they still go through the ups and downs of
a relationship, facing the same joyous moments, and same hard times with an individual they love.
The homophobia that has spread through our country like wildfire since the outing of homosexuals
became more common and acceptable undermines these common variables between homosexual and
heterosexual couples. One of the largest differences for a homosexual is living a life of fear. Along
with all of their day to day activities that mirror any heterosexual, they must also deal with the stress
of being different and being unacceptable to the society which they are a part of. They must know the
places they are welcomed as an outted gay person, and the ones where they must hide their true
identities. As well, they are not granted many of the rights a heterosexual takes for granted. They
cannot file for taxes along with their partner, cannot receive medical benefits or health insurance under
their partners coverage, as most husband and wives do, and most essentially, they cannot create a bond
of unity to express their love through a legal marriage (France, 2/2000 p2). Marriage has been a

Taking a Look at Thermal Cracking
Thermal Cracking:
The simple distillation of crude oil produces various types of products and some of them (heavy
distillates) are not very much useful as a fuel when compared to light distillates. So there is a need for
subsequent conversion of heavy distillates to light distillates. This can be obtained by altering the
molecular structure of hydrocarbons in heavy distillates. One of the ways of accomplishing this
change is by Cracking , a process that breaks the high boiling point petroleum fractions into more
useful products like gasoline, fuel oil, gas oils. Thermal Cracking is the process of converting high
boiling point petroleum fractions to more useful products using high temperature to heat them up and
this high temperature gives them sufficient heat energy to crack.
The first thermal cracking method, the Shukhov cracking process, was invented by Russian engineer
Vladimir Shukhov, in the Russian empire, Patent No. 12926, November 27, 1891and the first thermal
cracking process was developed around 1913. In thermal cracking heavy oils are heated in large drums
under pressure to crack them into small molecules which have good anti knocking properties but this
process lead high coke formation. Thermal cracking of hydrocarbons follows free radical mechanism.
Free radical mechanism has three steps Initiation, propagation, and termination. Cracking happens in
the initiation step and the termination step leads to formation of coke. This process of thermal
cracking evolved

irrational authority would be identified by the likes of a slave and his owner who demonstrates

They are one of very few stores that are actually doing well through this period. Due to Superdrys

examples of these are Superfry and Silverdry. As a result, Superdry spends ÂŁ1million a year

Examples Of The Ontological Argument
Does the Ontological Argument successfully show that God exists? Anselm s ontological argument is
a philosophical argument which aims to prove God s existence. The ontological argument is an
argument for God s existence based on reason alone. According to this argument, there is no need to
go out looking for physical evidence of God s existence; we can work out that he exists simply by
thinking about it logically. (Anon., 2004) Anselm s argument is a reductio argument, it seeks to
demonstrate that a statement is true by showing that an absurd result would follow from its denial. I
will be discussing three objections to Anselm s argument which I will reply to, namely: the perfect
island objection by Gaunilo; existence is not a predicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Kant, existence is not a predicate/property that a thing can either possess or lack. He
claims that when people say that God exists they are not saying that there is a God who possesses the
property of existence. If that were the case, then when people say that God does not exist they would
be saying that there is a God and he lacks the property of existence. They would then both be
affirming and denying God s existence at the same time. Kant suggests that to say that something
exists is to say that the concept of that thing is exemplified in the world. For example, as long as there
is a Romeo who exists , there is also a Romeo . And, as long as there is a Romeo , there is also a
Romeo who exists . Adding exists has in effect added nothing. (Chapman, 2016) Kant claims that it is
impossible to compare a God that exists to a God that does not. They are both the same. A God that
exists is all powerful, all knowing and all loving. A God that does not exist is also all powerful, all
knowing and all loving. According to Kant, this shows that Anselm s ontological argument

Cultural Conflicts In Nicaragua
Introduction While China, North Korea, Russia, Iran, and immigration have dominated international
news, clashes between the government and protesters have resulted in 145 dead and thousands injured
(Agence France Presse, 2018, para. 5) during the bloodiest disturbance in Nicaragua since the 1980 s
(Associated Press, 2018, para. 11). A missionary evacuated from the region in May succinctly
expressed the frustrations of many over the lack of impetus of other nations to condemn the rampant
violence and human rights violations that have become common place in this conflict (R. Caiazzo,
personal communication, June 5, 2018). Analysis Addressing cultural conflicts begins by mastering
the story behind the problem (Patterson, Grenny, Maxfield, McMillan, Switzler, 2013). Hauk and
Mueller (2015) suggest three variables common to such stories; the cultural leaders, the cultural
perspectives, and the incentives that compel each group to engage or disengage in negotiation.
Understanding these components offers insights to open potential doors to negotiate an acceptable
resolution. Cultural Leaders The first step in moving cultural conflicts toward productive negotiation
is identifying leaders; influential individuals which Hauk and Mueller describe as the source of
culture. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Reflection About Technology
How do you relate to technology? You might have been asked this question before, but even if you
haven t this is a question that everyone could answer; there just might be different ways to answer. For
me, when people ask how I relate to technology my mind cannot help but go to my iPhone and all the
apps that I scroll through all the time, and yes, even when I am in the restroom. (we have all done this
before). My favorite part about my cell phone and the applications that I am offered is the question
itself; they allow me to relate a technology that everyone has some knowledge about to something that
I am passionate about, the gospel. There are many apps on my cell phone that I enjoy, but only a few
can keep me so entertained that I can hardly put my phone down to go to sleep at night. Usually, when
I am bored, I quickly scroll through my phone to see an application that is going to satisfy me for the
next 20 minutes of my life. Until, I get bored of that as well, but when it comes to the applications that
are teaching me about God, I become deeply Intrigued and encouraged by what I am reminded. It s
like a buffet, I start at the salad line and keep walking hoping there is something else that is better, and
when I get to the dessert boy am I the happiest girl in the world!
We have all made a phone call at one point our lives, and if you haven t, you probably know someone
who has. Apple CEO Steve Jobs announced FaceTime on June 7, 2010, in conjunction with the iPhone

The Success Of Implementation Of The Final Solution
Category III 7. Similarities, Differences, by Country. Why Success? Introduction In this essay I will
evaluate the success of implementation of the Final solution in four nations. These four nations are the
Netherlands, France, Yugoslavia and Italy. There will be a description of the treatment of Jews as well
as the kill rate in that country. Besides, there will be an analysis, why the countries cooperated and
why some nations were more successful in implementing the final solution. Lastly, I will compare and
contrast all the data of the nations in the conclusion. The Netherlands The installation of pro German
government in the Netherlands starkly contributed to the high Jewish death toll. When the Netherlands
was being invaded by the Germans the Dutch Cabinet and the Queen fled to England. Therefore, after
the occupation, the Germans could install in contrast to other occupied countries a Pro German
Civilian Government, led by the Austrian Arthur Seyss Inquart. He had the full control over all the
civil servants in the Netherlands and could therefore easily implement new anti Jewish policies. One
of his first policies was to establish a Jewish Council with the purpose to control the Jews and
unnoticeably strip them away of their rights. Also with the help of the civil servants, Seyss Inquart
could initiate a registration system to make the Jews more easily identifiable by inserting a J on their
card. This registration simplified and accelerated the lightning quick

Figurative Language In The Yearling
Winning the Pulitzer Prize is like winning the Heisman Trophy. In that regard, Marjorie Kinnan
Rawlings is comparable to Nile Kinnick. Kinnick won the Heisman in 1939 for his hard work,
dedication, and ability to play football. Rawlings won the Pulitzer Prize in 1939 for her novel, The
Yearling, for her deliberate use of sensory details, figurative language, and artful syntax. The
appliance of sensory details throughout the novel enhance the story by depicting a vivid image of the
characters and their situations. On page 224, Rawlings describes the events of the morning of the
storm. The fawn came to Jody s bed and poked its muzzle against his face. The contrast of the wet,
cold nose and Jody s warm face simulate the change of the setting from calm and warm to story and
cold. Earlier in the story, Jody is once again sleeping, but this time on the river on page 6. There were
no black boles of live oaks, no glossy green of magnolia leaves, no pattern of gold lace where the sun
had sifted through the branches of the wild cherry. The sensory details of the fading reality epitomize
the dreamland that Jody is drifting off to. In addition to the sensory details, the asyndeton contributes
to the relatable feeling of thoughts turning to dreams as sleep takes over the mind. The most effective
use of sensory details occurs on page 224 as Jody wakes up the morning of the storm. The morning,
however, was clear, but the east was the color of blood. The distinct image of the sun

St. Thomas Aquinas, David Hume, And Nel Noddings
In life, our character is tested numerous times through difficult predicaments. In a fictional scenario
set in a genocidal, totalitarian regime, the head of house faces an extremely challenging dilemma.
While the common individual may approach the predicament a certain way, the philosophies of
Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther King, Jr., David Hume, and Nel Noddings give us an idea of what
may be the most correct choice. While each philosopher presents a different and sound argument, they
each have a different idea of what is morally right. St. Thomas Aquinas the most influential medieval
philosopher created a bridge between faith and reason, and, thus, gave the world philosophies that can
be applied to many different scenarios. His ethics include a set of laws known as the Eternal Law, the
Divine Law, the Natural Law, and the Human Law. The Eternal Law is the law that only God knows.
The Divine Law is the Bible, and human beings have the ability to obey these interpreted divine laws.
The Natural Laws are laws that were created by God (because God created everything), but must be
deciphered by human reason. Lastly, Human Law is what is set by governments, and it is usually
unfair or flawed. That being said, the Human Law of the fictional genocidal, totalitarian regime would
be categorized as deeply flawed. In Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica: Question XCIV, he states
that good is that which all things seek after and that good is to be done and pursued, and evil is to be

International Reputation Of Urban Transportation Planning
I. INTRODUCTION
Transportation infrastructure is not only regarded as the artery of massive urban system, but also the
cornerstone of urban growth as transportation advantages attract development opportunities. However,
in the 20th century, unprecedented urbanisation pressured transportation worldwide, as population
growth and rise of automobile ownership plagued various cities into chronic traffic problems with
subsequent social and environmental impacts. This report explores Curitiba that has developed an
international reputation of urban transportation planning, in order to understand how increasingly
urbanised city as Curitiba alleviates its traffic issues through urban design and creative management.
Critical analysis and implications in terms of the results of implemented solutions will be provided.
II. HISTORY PROBLEMS Curitiba, capital of the state of Parana ́ in Brazil, originated with a strong
emphasis on transportation, as the first patches of rail road constructions in 1880s between the city and
ports of its state upgraded Curitiba into a strategic location for business and trade (Macedo 2004).
Although the city experienced growth through capital investment in coffee production since 1940s
(Macedo 2013), the significant driver of Curitiba s expansion was the mechanisation of agriculture
and its emerging industrial and commercial importance since 1960s, during which the resulting rural
in migration of displaced labour force fueled urban

Algernon Charles Swinburne s Poem A Cameo
The poem, A Cameo , portrays life as an engraved painting. Algernon Charles Swinburne included six
significant figures that inquired how to escape the struggles of life. The painting retails that there is a
portrait of Desire who is painted with red blood on a ground of gold , emphasizing that the poem
represents a painting that has a base of gold covered in red. A cameo is a technique of engraving a
stone in such a way that an underlying stone of one color is exposed as a background for a low relief
design of another color (dictionary.com). A Cameo represents this description because death is similar
to the underlying stone color, whereas the figures included represent the low relief design of another
color . Swinburne had the intention with this poem to create an emphasis six figures relating to life. ...

Persuasive Speech On Australia Day
Australia Day
This is a speech directed at the people of Australia, it is to convince you, that by celebrating Australia
day on the 26th of January, you are celebrating the day that European prisoners came to this country
and stole it from the aboriginals.
I want you to put you into a story. Imagine you are living on the land with your family and friends. By
day you hunt wild animals and travel. And at nights you gather around the campfire and tell stories.
You meet up with other groups of people and traveling with them. Imagine swimming and running
and creating friendships. Imagine that your people have been doing this for thousands of years. Now
imagine strange people with different colour skin to you land on beaches, in big wooden contraptions.
You offer them food and water and show them how to live of your land. Then they attack you and kill
your friends. More and more of these strange people come and they take all your water from your
springs. They sell you pretty trinkets for the meat that you spent all day hunting. The people wage war
on you and massacre everyone around you and take you as their slave. As you grow up and have kids,
the strange people take your kids, and you never see them again. You are now in your later years of
life. Strange people have completely settled over your land. They have beaten and murdered all your
friends. They have stolen your children, and treated you like an animal. Now these people have started
to celebrate the day that they arrived on your beach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

We Must Stop The Water Crisis
The Hidrocapital which is a part of the environmental ministry is one way they are solving the water
crisis, but they still have a long way to go since they do not have a proper water schedule delivery. The
people will have to wait because they will never know when the water will arrive. The government
lacks the communication with the residents, which, Critics say the government should have begun
rationing water earlier rather than allow the Lagartijo reservoir, one of six supplying this city, to turn
bone dry in recent weeks (Vyas 2014). At the last minute, the government decided to ration the water,
which puts pressure on the other water sources such as the two other national parks. This, in turn, will
not only cause inflammation on the water prices, but also the rise of poverty in the capital. It has
gotten so bad, that the protesting has turned into violence. With that, people have pulled out guns and
resorted to violence so that they can get more water which has caused the rationing system to become
defaulted. Another important factor is that water is a key factor for generating electricity and because
the region is prone to droughts, that impacted the hydroelectricity business. Thus the only way to
solve the the water problem is to implement different water managements. The first management is the
integrated urban water management(IUWM). This type of management is important specifically for
Venezuela due to the high population within cities. Caracas is not only

Compare and contrast the Red Scare and the McCarthy trials to the situation in The Crucible; contrast

Response: The Red Scare and McCarthy trials show much similarity to the situation in the Crucible.
One similarity that these both share is how the people were afraid of the courts because they held high
power. The Red Scare was a growing fear of Communism in America that became prevalent after the
World Wars. The second Red Scare was known as McCarthyism because it is an act of accusing

How Did Nina Simone Influence The Civil Rights Movement
The soulful queen of R B, blues, and jazz stood as a figure of raw talent, resilience, and most of all

Essay On Assimilation In Canada
Within the international community Canada is regarded as an ethnically diverse country. Conversely
having many cultures under one roof does not represent multiculturalism. Over the 150 years Canada

to hold onto their heritage. This heritage which they regard very highly is stripped away by the
government to force an inclusion into Canadian Society. Canada s ethnic groups are forced to separate
into isolated islands or else they are coerced into assimilation.
Ever since white settlers landed on Canadian shores in the 1600 s, there have been conflicts with the
First Nations. From driving them off their land to exterminating them with European diseases, the
First Nation population has been struggling to keep their lineage and history from being erased. With
the struggle to keep themselves from being cut [off] close to the floor (Page 2) the First Nation society

These types of industry are the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries. This process of taking
benzaldehyde and using a multistep synthesis procedure makes making benzilic acid fairly cheap. This
is mainly due to the fact that benzaldehyde is a cheap starting material and is very resourceful. The
overall objective of the experiment was to obtain benzilic acid with the use of the multistep synthesis
procedure which consist of a benzoin condensation, oxidation of benzoin, and a final molecular
rearrangement of benzil. This is a fairly long experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Jane Yolen The Devil s Arithmetic Do you really know what went on during the holocaust? Jane Yolen wrote a special book about how life was like in the concentration camps. This book later turned into a movie. There are many differences that go on in between the book and the movie, but there are also many similarities. I think that differences or not, they both teach a valuable lesson. One by one, the deaths were added. One by one the Jews were disappearing. The book The Devil s Arithmetic was written by Jane Yolen, and the movie was directed by Donna Deitch. The movie was based off of the book, and they both were about a Jewish girl, named Hanna. Hanna has to go to passover to remember about the Holocaust, but doesn t want to go. At the celebration, Hanna celebrates passover traditions by drinking wine and opening the door for the prophet Elijah. When she opens the door, she finds herself on a strange farm with Jewish relatives. They end up being captured by Nazis and taken to a concentration camp. Hanna met many new people at the camp. She experienced the harsh conditions the Jews were put through. Many of the people she met ended up dying. These experiences were very difficult for Hannah. When she finds herself back in her grandparent s apartment, she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first difference is the age differences of Hanna. In the movie, Hanna is a immature, seventeen year old girl that likes the wine. In the book, Hanna is a thirteen year old girl that despises the wine. Another difference is that the wedding was actually finished in the movie, so Fayge and Shmule were married before they were taken to the concentration camps. In the book, they could not finish the wedding, so they were only engaged when they died. A final difference is that Rivka was actually Hanna s cousin in the movie so they met right away, rather than in the camp like they did in the book. It is a change because the characters care for each other more because they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Significance Of Strategic Bombing Of Germany In this essay I will assess the significance of strategic bombing of Germany. I will do this by evaluating four key areas of the German war effort. This will include German and British moral, German economy, its effect on the outcome of the Eastern Front and the results of the preparation for D Day. Overall allied bombing did not have a significant impact on the outcome of the war as for the majority of the war bombing techniques and technology were primitive and so had little effect. It only became a threatening tool latter on in the war, when the allies had effectively won. One potentially significant area of impact caused by strategic bombing was its effect on German moral. This is because it was expected to terrify and shock the German ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This panic combined with the bombing of a single rocket research station was enough to make the Luftwaffe chief of staff, Hans Jeschonnek, commit suicide. The devastating effect of these events was amplified by the fear of an invasion of Germany, due to the Allied forces landing in Normandy and the Russians approaching from the East. However, because of the unreliability of bomber commands performance the Nazis managed to quickly control the situation. They ensured that no photographs or news reports were published from the bomb stricken reports meaning that the rest of Germany could only gather information from stories and tales. On top of this only a small part of Germany was bombed as the allied forces simply did not have the technology to reach the majority of the Reich. That it was relatively easy for the country to regroup, resulting in heavy retaliation and a continuous growth in German production. However, in the last years of the war bombing technology drastically improved and the attacks were relentless. As opposed to less than one quarter of bombs dropping within five miles of the target, each bomb now hit their target and inflicted maximum damage due to new aiming technology. Bombing raids were now performed twenty four hours a day, in the night by Bomber Command and in the day by the heavily armoured bombers in the American 8th squadron. 1,500 bombers were now available after a huge increase in production speed, each with the ... • 4. Narrative Essay On Thanksgiving Blessings on Thanksgiving When I was younger, I always imagined spending my Thanksgivings with my family, watching the parade, and gorging on enough food that would make me regret it later. My parents told me I had to complete a number of community service hours for my church in order to graduate and become a freshman in the ministry program I m in. Even though I knew it was something I had to do, I did not want to pick up trash or make food for others, which sounds so selfish. Things have changed a lot since then. My church offered to help me, and a few others who procrastinated just as I had, complete the number of community service hours that I had yet to do. Of course, my parents forced me to take the opportunity, even though it fell ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The drive there was pretty depressing, because my sister thought it would be a great idea to send me videos of my family playing football without me. Even my dog was playing outside with the rest of my family. I felt so excluded, but I knew it was my fault. After thirty minutes or so, we arrived in Paterson, and the anxiety set in. Now, I needed to be friendly. I am the worst person at starting a conversation with people or continuing one. We unloaded the bus and went inside a small white building off the side of Main Street, where at least sixty homeless people were gathered, holding coats and shoes that had been donated to them. Many of them were sitting by themselves, and seeing that broke my heart. I grabbed a packed meal and began to make my way over to a man I saw in the corner of the room, crying. I was about to tap on his shoulder and ask him what was wrong, but by the time I got to him, he had already seen me and began to spill the details as to why he was in so much distress. My wife and I had been waiting two hundred forty seven days for this day to be here so we could bring my son a coat that he could keep forever. About two or three months ago, she died from pneumonia, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Ever Changing Field Of Film Essay The Ever Changing Field of Film The world of film has changed dramatically over the years and will likely continue to change along with technological and professional developments. Like many modern innovations, film has changed substantially over a rather short period of time, from black and white movies to modernized color films. Still, it is impressive to think how far film has come, and looking back into the near past affords an appreciation of the technology that no longer exists. Thus my viewing experiences towards film have tremendously changed in recent years as I have become more and more immersed in its world. I am not old enough to recall silent movies, but I most certainly remember black and white movies that my parents used to watch on TV. In the 1980s, I always wondered why some broadcasts were black and white, especially when I switched to another channel that had color broadcasting. Personally, the only black and white TV show that I used to watch was The Three Stooges (Ray McCarey, 1934). I enjoyed watching this show for its funny slapstick action; however I did not enjoy watching it in black and white, as my focus was primarily on the main characters and not the scenery or objects around them. Several years later, this sort of viewing became a thing of the past because black and white films became less accessible in either television or movies. Conversely, the advent of computer generated imagery, known as CGI, has changed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Human Consumption And Commercial Fishing Essay Human Consumption and Commercial Fishing have led to a depletion of Cod stocks, specifically, the Atlantic Cod in the North Atlantic Region. The ecological, social and economic implications this has on society is not only evident today, but poses long term consequences as well. Wicked problems are characterized by social complexity. (stakeholders, incomplete contradiction knowledge, opinions etc.) (Kolko, 2012) this issue may be considered a wicked problem because the Atlantic cod remain a demand in human consumption and the commercial exploitation remains a factor in the depletion of their stocks. • 7. Students Should Be Taught In School The things being taught in school are not always what need to be taught in order for the student to succeed in life. The long math problems and odd questions and classes taken do not always help us figure out the more important things people need to learn. Taxes and the classes that students would most likely use in the career they wish to pursue are not always the classes taken or things taught in school. Teachers should not always assign the most difficult or most outrageous problems in order to teach us problem solving skill but teach us things we will actually use in everyday life. Students should be taught the basic skills, that students still do not know how to do, that will be used throughout their entire life. Taxes and learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Abolishment Of Slavery In The 1860 s Slavery in America began during the early 17th century and followed with the abolitionist movement in the late 1800 s. This movement created a continental divide between southern and northern states. In the south, there are the Southern Democrats who supported the idea of slavery and believed that the institution was necessary for the survival of the south. Southern Democrats also argued that the North turned their back on the real America. While the northern states were composed of Republicans, such as Abraham Lincoln, whose efforts to exterminate slavery eventually caused the absorption of anti slavery Whigs and most of the Know Nothing party. In the years that followed, slavery fueled the fire that started the Civil War. The vast majority of southern states did not favor the abolishment of slavery in the 1850 s nor 1860 s. On the contrary, the states divided themselves of the increasing problem of slave versus free territories. The Compromise of 1820, also known as the Missouri Compromise, admitted Maine to the Union as a free state in 1820 and Missouri as a slave state in 1821. In addition, the compromise prohibited the use of slavery in all parts of the Louisiana Purchase north of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Compromises of 1820 and 1850 seemed to have slightly pacified the conflict, but the peace quickly dissipated. However, Stephen Douglas believed in popular sovereignty when he wrote the Kansas Nebraska Act. • 10. The Importance Of Crop Biodiversity Crop Biodiversity is a very important to the world we know. As populations grow around the world people are going to consume more food. This can cause a problem without crop biodiversity. Crop biodiversity is the outcome of the interactions among genetic resources, the environment and the management systems and practices used by farmers. This is the result of both natural selection and human interventions and human inventive developed over millennia. Crop diversity helps when trying feeding growing populations with smaller amount of cropland. Crop biodiversity is used in several different ways like pest control, pollination, pollution and sediment regulation, maintenance of the hydrological cycle, erosion control, and climate regulation and carbon sequestration. His house was not the most amicable environment for an African American individual amid that time encountering childhood in the confined South, he experienced racial bias and partition firsthand. Proposition 5 passed in November of 98, which would allow more gambling in the Indian reservations. The proposition was ruled to be unconstitutional. Now the Indians are rebutting the fact that they are sovereign and the ballot was passed. Under existing law, Indian tribes operate as semi sovereign nations, and are liable under federal law only. The majority of tribes have refused to agree to the terms of the Wilson Pala Compact, however, claiming that it is inflexible and grants the state too much power over tribal affairs. As a young person, one looks forward to many goals in their lifetime: career success, a good life, and very often marriage to the person they love and a family together. This is one of the biggest parts of our American life and culture. Very few heterosexuals would be willing to put their right to marry on a ballot for voter approval, or even in their wildest dreams [nightmares?] have to consider doing that. The homophobia that has spread through our country like wildfire since the outing of homosexuals became more common and acceptable undermines these common variables between homosexual and heterosexual couples. One of the largest differences for a homosexual is living a life of fear. Along with all of their day to day activities that mirror any heterosexual, they must also deal with the stress of being different and being unacceptable to the society which they are a part of. Taking a Look at Thermal Cracking Thermal Cracking: The simple distillation of crude oil produces various types of products and some of them (heavy distillates) are not very much useful as a fuel when compared to light distillates. So there is a need for subsequent conversion of heavy distillates to light distillates. This can be obtained by altering the molecular structure of hydrocarbons in heavy distillates. One of the ways of accomplishing this change is by Cracking , a process that breaks the high boiling point petroleum fractions into more useful products like gasoline, fuel oil, gas oils. Thermal Cracking is the process of converting high boiling point petroleum fractions to more useful products using high temperature to heat them up and this high temperature gives them sufficient heat energy to crack. The first thermal cracking method, the Shukhov cracking process, was invented by Russian engineer Vladimir Shukhov, in the Russian empire, Patent No. 12926, November 27, 1891and the first thermal cracking process was developed around 1913. In thermal cracking heavy oils are heated in large drums under pressure to crack them into small molecules which have good anti knocking properties but this process lead high coke formation. Thermal cracking of hydrocarbons follows free radical mechanism. Free radical mechanism has three steps Initiation, propagation, and termination. Cracking happens in the initiation step and the termination step leads to formation of coke. This process of thermal cracking evolved ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 22. Examples Of The Ontological Argument Does the Ontological Argument successfully show that God exists? Anselm s ontological argument is a philosophical argument which aims to prove God s existence. The ontological argument is an argument for God s existence based on reason alone. According to this argument, there is no need to go out looking for physical evidence of God s existence; we can work out that he exists simply by thinking about it logically. (Anon., 2004) Anselm s argument is a reductio argument, it seeks to demonstrate that a statement is true by showing that an absurd result would follow from its denial. I will be discussing three objections to Anselm s argument which I will reply to, namely: the perfect island objection by Gaunilo; existence is not a predicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... According to Kant, existence is not a predicate/property that a thing can either possess or lack. He claims that when people say that God exists they are not saying that there is a God who possesses the property of existence. If that were the case, then when people say that God does not exist they would be saying that there is a God and he lacks the property of existence. They would then both be affirming and denying God s existence at the same time. Kant suggests that to say that something exists is to say that the concept of that thing is exemplified in the world. For example, as long as there is a Romeo who exists , there is also a Romeo . And, as long as there is a Romeo , there is also a Romeo who exists . Adding exists has in effect added nothing. (Chapman, 2016) Kant claims that it is impossible to compare a God that exists to a God that does not. They are both the same. A God that exists is all powerful, all knowing and all loving. The Netherlands The installation of pro German government in the Netherlands starkly contributed to the high Jewish death toll. When the Netherlands was being invaded by the Germans the Dutch Cabinet and the Queen fled to England. Therefore, after the occupation, the Germans could install in contrast to other occupied countries a Pro German Civilian Government, led by the Austrian Arthur Seyss Inquart. One of his first policies was to establish a Jewish Council with the purpose to control the Jews and unnoticeably strip them away of their rights. In a fictional scenario set in a genocidal, totalitarian regime, the head of house faces an extremely challenging dilemma. While the common individual may approach the predicament a certain way, the philosophies of Thomas Aquinas, Martin Luther King, Jr., David Hume, and Nel Noddings give us an idea of what may be the most correct choice. While each philosopher presents a different and sound argument, they each have a different idea of what is morally right. St. Thomas Aquinas the most influential medieval philosopher created a bridge between faith and reason, and, thus, gave the world philosophies that can be applied to many different scenarios. His ethics include a set of laws known as the Eternal Law, the Divine Law, the Natural Law, and the Human Law. The Eternal Law is the law that only God knows. The Divine Law is the Bible, and human beings have the ability to obey these interpreted divine laws. The Natural Laws are laws that were created by God (because God created everything), but must be deciphered by human reason. Lastly, Human Law is what is set by governments, and it is usually unfair or flawed. And at nights you gather around the campfire and tell stories. You meet up with other groups of people and traveling with them. Imagine swimming and running and creating friendships. Imagine that your people have been doing this for thousands of years. Now imagine strange people with different colour skin to you land on beaches, in big wooden contraptions. You offer them food and water and show them how to live of your land. Then they attack you and kill your friends. More and more of these strange people come and they take all your water from your springs. They sell you pretty trinkets for the meat that you spent all day hunting. The people wage war on you and massacre everyone around you and take you as their slave. As you grow up and have kids, the strange people take your kids, and you never see them again. You are now in your later years of life. Strange people have completely settled over your land. They have beaten and murdered all your friends. They have stolen your children, and treated you like an animal. Now these people have started to celebrate the day that they arrived on your beach. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 32. We Must Stop The Water Crisis The Hidrocapital which is a part of the environmental ministry is one way they are solving the water crisis, but they still have a long way to go since they do not have a proper water schedule delivery. The people will have to wait because they will never know when the water will arrive. The government lacks the communication with the residents, which, Critics say the government should have begun rationing water earlier rather than allow the Lagartijo reservoir, one of six supplying this city, to turn bone dry in recent weeks (Vyas 2014). At the last minute, the government decided to ration the water, which puts pressure on the other water sources such as the two other national parks. This, in turn, will not only cause inflammation on the water prices, but also the rise of poverty in the capital. It has gotten so bad, that the protesting has turned into violence. With that, people have pulled out guns and resorted to violence so that they can get more water which has caused the rationing system to become defaulted. Another important factor is that water is a key factor for generating electricity and because the region is prone to droughts, that impacted the hydroelectricity business. Thus the only way to solve the the water problem is to implement different water managements. The first management is the integrated urban water management(IUWM). This type of management is important specifically for Venezuela due to the high population within cities. Caracas is not only ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Compare and contrast the Red Scare and the McCarthy trials to the situation in The Crucible; contrast Deputy Governor Danforth with Senator Joseph McCarthy. Could this type of hysteria happen today? Discuss. Response: The Red Scare and McCarthy trials show much similarity to the situation in the Crucible. One similarity that these both share is how the people were afraid of the courts because they held high power. The Red Scare was a growing fear of Communism in America that became prevalent after the World Wars. The second Red Scare was known as McCarthyism because it is an act of accusing someone of treason or disloyalty without any evidence, this is similar to the Crucible. Integrity is the way you perceive yourself, not how others perceive you. It s the way you carry yourself and the goodness in your heart to hold a good name. My dad is an addict and that is a story I d rather not share, but it s a personal experience where I had to choose my integrity over my reputation with my family. If you know me, family is everything to me. When my dad came out as an addict, my family had the motto of we are going to go through this together and not leave him behind. I didn t want to be apart of that, it was my dad. I had to choose my integrity and my goodness to not be associated with enabling an addiction that needed to end. American history is responsible for the creation of conspiracy theories for famous ideas and events constructed by the government and made available for the public to either believe or disbelieve a hoax or phenomena. Merriam Webster defines conspiracy as a theory that explains an event or set of circumstances as the result of a secret plot by usually powerful conspirators. A popular theory to be defined as an alleged hoax is the end to the Space Race, accomplished by the United States of America s Apollo 11 mission that successfully brought Commander, Neil A. • 36. Essay On Assimilation In Canada Within the international community Canada is regarded as an ethnically diverse country. Conversely having many cultures under one roof does not represent multiculturalism. Over the 150 years Canada has existed, there have been many instances of persecution against immigrant and First Nation populations. Thomas King s Totem and Wayson Choy The Jade Peony unveil how their cultures fight to hold onto their heritage. This heritage which they regard very highly is stripped away by the government to force an inclusion into Canadian Society. Canada s ethnic groups are forced to separate into isolated islands or else they are coerced into assimilation. Ever since white settlers landed on Canadian shores in the 1600 s, there have been conflicts with the First Nations. From driving them off their land to exterminating them with European diseases, the First Nation population has been struggling to keep their lineage and history from being erased. With the struggle to keep themselves from being cut [off] close to the floor (Page 2) the First Nation society has been confined to a small patch of land called a reservation , a small downsize from all of Canada. • 37. Multistep Synthesis Lab Report Multistep Synthesis Of Benzilic Acid From Benzaldehyde Jesus Pena L20326354 Lamar University CHEM 3112 Spring 2017 April 26th, 2017 Abstract: Benzilic acid is used in many aspects of industry. These types of industry are the pharmaceutical, cosmetic, and food industries. This process of taking benzaldehyde and using a multistep synthesis procedure makes making benzilic acid fairly cheap. This is mainly due to the fact that benzaldehyde is a cheap starting material and is very resourceful. The overall objective of the experiment was to obtain benzilic acid with the use of the multistep synthesis procedure which consist of a benzoin condensation, oxidation of benzoin, and a final molecular rearrangement of benzil. This is a fairly long experiment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Added the 3M aqueous NaOH slowly as to not exceed a temperature of 20°C. Proceeding with the reaction a total of 15.10ml of benzaldehyde was added and allowed to reflux over the course of an hour. Once reflux was done mixture was allowed to crystallize and the product, benzoin, was collected with vacuum filtration and washed with cold water along with two 10ml portions of cold methanol. The second step required taking the weight of benzoin and halving it in order to know the amount of ammonium nitrate to obtain. So, 3.142 g of ammonium nitrate and 35ml of acetic acid were added into a round bottom flask and ammonium nitrate was allowed to dissolve. 0.165 g of copper (II) acetate and the benzoin were added to the round bottom flask. This was then added to the reflux apparatus and allowed to reflux for about an hour. After reflux mixture was added to 100ml of crushed ice and cooled afterward was vacuum filtrated and washed with water and 50% ethanol. Benzil was now the product ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
