Forrest s mother thinks an education is the primary source for living a stereotypical normal life.
Forrest has a totally different outlook he sees school as a playground for bullies even though he
seriously believes everyone, no matter their intelligence level, deserves and has the right to an
education. Thankfully, in America we have many rights and freedoms. Yet, our freedom is not
free. With much respect, our freedom is earned by the bravery of many men and woman. The
effects of the Vietnam War can be considered a theme in the movie, Forrest Gump. This film
portrays the Vietnam War with a child like, simplicity outlook but contains much deeper
meaning like thinking about life, death, and destiny. While at war, Forrest saved Lieutenant Dan
Taylor s life, yet Lieutenant was not satisfied. He believed it was his destiny to die which put
many things into perspective for Forrest such as life and death, especially after Forrest saw his
best friend, Bubba, die at war. Forrest Gump stated in remembrance, My mama always said, dyin
was a part of life. I sure wish it wasn t. In the movie, Forrest Gump, symbolism is an outstanding
feature that is talentedly expressed many times by Director Zemeckis. Shown at the beginning and
at the end of the movie was a white feather. The feather symbolizes Forrest s child like innocence
and purity. While the feather is shown again at the end with Forrest Jr. representing the pureness

4. The Popularity Of Christopher Columbus, And The Columbus Day

Essay 3
Word Count: 1,209
The New Light
The federal holiday, Columbus Day, has brought about its own uniqueness amongst many
Americans. Generations of schoolchildren were instructed to read or watch videos that claimed
Columbus was the founder of America. He was known as an explorer, navigator, and a colonizer.
Now, Christopher Columbus is no longer portrayed as the hero he once was. Over many years, there
has been a series of stories told by others, and a proof of documentation found to reveal information
about his life, famous voyages, and the multicultural movement.
The birthday of Christopher Columbus remains unknown to this day. He was presumed born
between August 26 and October 31, 1451, in Genoa, Italy (Flint). In his thirties, when his ship
was wrecked, he managed to grab a wooden oar and reach the shore in Portugal (Cavendish). He
returned to Spain in 1504 after his last voyage (Cavendish). Columbus had been arrested years prior
to accusations of tyranny and brutality toward native peoples of the Americas. But he was released
by King Ferdinand after six weeks in prison. He was subsequently denied most of the profits of
his discoveries promised to him by Ferdinand and Queen Isabella (Wanjek). Columbus was fifty
three and in deprived well being. He was living comfortably, economically speaking, in an
apartment in Valladolid, Crown of Castile, in present day Spain, albeit in pain from severe arthritis
(Wanjek). He is now suspected to

5. The Resurrection Of Former Prisons Across The World
Prison Theory The resurrection of former prisons across the world has equally captured the
awareness of tourists and scholars alike. While prison museums, as a result of their bleak and in
some cases disturbing subject matter, invert the Disney experience, they proceed to exploit a
phenomenon known as dark tourism, . . . in which people gravitate to sites associated with war,
genocide, and other tragic events for purposes of remembrance education, or even entertainment,
(Welch, 1). Generated in order to convey the aforementioned purpose, the museum effect subjects
visitors of the prisonmuseums to a multilayered encounter with objects, images and space. Utilizing
models such as The Clink, Alcatraz, Eastern State Penitentiary, and Seodaemun prison, this papers
purpose is to illustrate the success of the museum effect in achieving its desired ends of
remembrance through memorialization, education and culturalization through use of images and
space, and entertainment through the use of objects.
Space
In order to develop a proper understanding of the museum effect, one must understand each aspect
that contributes to the effect, the first being space. No prison structure better describes the use of
space than Eastern State Penitentiary. Designed by John Haviland, and opened on October 25thth
1829, Eastern State, also known as the model prison is considered to be the world s first true
penitentiary. Haviland designed the penitentiary using a new architecture scheme dubbed

6. The Pros And Cons Of The Democratic-Republican Party
In 1792, the world s oldest political party, the Democratic Party, was founded. During the
presidency of President Andrew Jackson in 1830, the party adopted its name as the Democratic
Party as it is known now. Prior to the renaming of the party, it was known as the Democratic
Republican Party founded by James Madison, and Thomas Jefferson in opposition of the Federalist
Party. The Democratic Partys purposed served to supported states rights and the strict
interpretation of the Constitution (Mayne, 1). Correspondingly, providing financial support to
family based agriculture was one of their main priorities (Mayne, 1). The Federalist Party, their
opposition, consisted of wealthy elites that strived, and fought for one strong all ruling national
government, rather than state governments. As the United States had just recently become
independent, the Democratic Republican Party was determined to prevent the United States
from becoming a monarchy. Over the next century, the Democratic Republican party began to
split due to the lack of agreement on major ideas which led to the current two party system.
However, some ideologies remain the same such as moral stance, and socioeconomic status.
Other ideologies like economic view and stance on government power have caused this split
between the Democratic and Republican parties (Mayne, 22). It is imperative to remember that
even though these two parties are completely different, they originated from the same party with
one main goal; To create a government that is run for and by its people (Mayne, 23). I have still
not developed a political identity, but over the past three years of my residence in the United
States, I am more in favor of the Democratic Party and what they stand for. At first, the
Democratic Party started out as the conservative party and the Republicans were the liberals.
However, over time, the Democratic Party has associated itself with social liberalism. Social
liberalism is a political ideology which states that individual liberty requires social justice
(DeMichele, 11). To be more precise, social liberal values include: equal pay, importance of women
s rights and healthcare rights, pro safety, a progressive approach to taxation, and union

1. In what major ways did Confucian philosophy manifest itself in Chinese society during the Ming
and/or Qing dynasties?
It is clear from examining the philosophical thought and social trends during both the Qing and
Ming dynasties that Confucian thought and ideology had a profound effect on Chinese society and
moral values during that period.
Confucian philosophy is an ethical and philosophical thinking system thought to have been
developed from the teachings of Kong Fuzi, known as Confucius who lived between 551 478 BC
in China. [1]The essence of Confucianism is that the human mind can be cultivated through virtue
and moral perfection. Confucianism has had tremendous influence on Chinese history and culture

This branch of Neo Confucianism was known as The School of principle . Although his works
were written during the Song Dynasty, by the time of the Ming and Qing dynasty, they had been
adopted as key text for the imperial examinations which meant that most of the educated men of
that period would have a high of understanding of his thought. [11]One of Zhu Xi s most famous
books was the book family rituals where he offered advice on many rituals including how to
conduct weddings, funerals, family ceremonies, and the veneration of ancestors.[12] Zhu Xi was
also known for implementing Buddhist thought into his philosophy. He argued for a Buddhist sense
of high moral and also argued that one should engage in both academic and philosophical
pursuits.[13]
The other branch of neo Confucianism advocated by Wang Yang Ming was known as the school of
mind which was founded by Ch eng Hao (1032 1085). [14] Although this school of thought also
believed that the material world was built from a single immaterial principle, the difference was that
this principle existed solely in the human mind. Wang Yang Ming believed that the principle of the
universe is equivalent to the human mind and that the practice of humanity, referred to as jen
unifies man with the universe. Wang Yang Ming expanded on this saying that innate knowledge
can manifest the original mind that is equivalent to the universe.[15] The innate knowledge, in his
opinion, represented the

Hamlet, a revenge tragedy, scripted by William Shakespeare in 1603, is a tale of a murder, secrets
and lies. The tragedy places the protagonist Hamlet, with the challenge of avenging his Father, King
Hamlet s death. Shakespeare develops a range of techniques to influence the audience s perception

An individual who is not ordinarily resident in South Africa can still be a resident of South Africa
provided that person meets the requirements of the physical presence test (Stiglingh, Koekemoer,
Van Schalkwyk, Wilcocks e Swardt.2012:51).
With the physical presence test, with which a natural person, who is not at any time ordinarily
resident in the Republic of South Africa during the relevant year of assessment, must comply
before that person will be a resident as defined in section 1. This can further be elaborated by
Interpretation Note 4 dated 4 February 2004.
The physical presence test, also known as the day test or time rule , is based on the number of
days that a natural person is physically present in the Republic. The purpose or nature of the visit is
irrelevant. It must be determined annually whether all the requirements of the physical presence
test have been met.
Paragraph (a) (ii) of the definition of a resident in section 1(1) of the Income Tax Act refers to a
natural person who is not at any time during the relevant year of assessment ordinarily resident in
the Republic. The ordinarily residence test supersedes the physical presence test. The physical
presence test is thus not applicable during any year of assessment that a person is ordinarily
resident in the Republic.
In terms of section 1 paragraph (a) of the Income Tax Act, for an individual to be physically present
in South Africa during a year of assessment, the person must be present in

approiemently 7,900 species in this domain. Species in this order are distinguished by their
scales, which have a horny shape. Also species in this domain have a movable quadrate bone,
making it possible for them to move their upper jaw. This is very observable in snakes;
especially the anaconda which can eat an animal five to six times its size, such as deer and
hippopotamuses. Besides the larger snakes in the Squamata order all other eat small to medium
sized invertebrates. Out of all the orders the Squamata order has the most variance in size range.

how Ed Miliband will cause a downturn in the U.K Don t let Ed Miliband sink this country with
his commie slab of rock . The use of the metaphorical word sink connotes the idea of the connection
Miliband has with regression as the country will be ruined if he comes to power. Furthermore,
Johnson uses the diminutive commie slab in order to decrease the importance of communism.
Johnson uses the word commie instead of communist to indicate the ridicule ideology that Miliband

associates communism with regression therefore a threat to the British country. The headline

However, an analysis of the research report revealed factors that challenge the importance or

sample size that was not representative of the general population, and the lack of data regarding
participants knowledge of the study diets prior to enrolling in the study. The study also does not

14. Physics Of Hot Air Balloon Experiment
Physics
The following report explains the results of a model hot air balloon experiment that replicates a
previous incident in which the temperature in the envelope was heated to a point until it was
burned. After assessing the researched and calculated data, the assertion of the air in the balloon
becoming too hot to lift the mass will be validated.
The physics related to the operation of hot air balloons is essentially the use of hot air to create a
buoyant force and generate lift. A hot air balloon is made of a large bag called the envelope, a
wicker basket or gondola hung underneath and a burner located beneath the hole in the envelope to
heat the air in the envelope. This heated air causes a buoyant force to occur (Edmonds, 2008).
When an object is submerged in a fluid, it appears to weigh less than when it is outside of the
fluid. The weight of the mass acts downwards, but when it is immersed in fluid, an upthrust or
buoyant force is exerted by the fluid upwards (Edmonds, 2008). The buoyant force occurs because
the pressure in a liquid or gas increases with increasing depth. Therefore, the pressure at the lower
surface of a submerged object is greater than the pressure at its upper surface.
Diagram 1 shows an object that has the same density as water. It is found that the object is in static
equilibrium, tending neither to rise nor sink (Nave, 2014). For this to happen, the downward

Throughout the novel The Color Purple, Alice Walker juxtaposes Celie and Shug Avery to
demonstrate the variety of roles women had in the nineteen hundreds. These two women had
many similarities, but their few differences lifted them into different levels of society. Celie, for
example, was a black woman who faced much adversity starting at a young age. Celie grew up
abused by her father only to be forced into an abusive marriage. Shug Avery, on the other hand,
was a confident and bold Jazz singer who had a complicated relationship with Mr. Blank, Celie s
husband. While Celie is immediately perceived as a weak and subjugated young girl and Shug
Avery is seen as a confident and all empowering woman, it is their relationship that allows both
women to grow. Due to their friendship Celie gains the confidence to break free from societal
oppression and Shug Avery grows into a kinder and more emphatic women. While Celie and

first School of Rock program and is now being pursued on my churches worship team today.
Before I start to tell you about my singing journey, I feel as if I should explain why I started to
sing in the first place. It all began when I was four years old, my older sister Kassidy would

thank her enough for it. When my sister was 12 years old she started to get involved in this

To gain proper and effective research on how technology impacts the lives of children with
disabilities in an academic setting using qualitative descriptive research methods. There are three
different ways to conduct qualitative research. Participant observation is appropriate for collecting
data on naturally occurring behaviors in their natural environment, such a school, work, or home
setting. In depth interviews are best for collecting data on individuals personal histories,
perspectives, and experiences for certain topics being researched. Lastly, focus groups are effective
in collecting data on the cultural norms of a group and in generating broad overviews. Conducting a
participant observationin a special educationclassroom gives the researcher the ability to inadept
see the impact technology has a special needs child s every day in an academic setting. It also
gives the researcher the ability to observe, and interview the teacher for a long period of time in a
close proximity. (Holosko, M. J. (n.d.). One advantage of qualitative methods in exploratory
researchis the use of open ended questions to give participants the opportunity to respond in their
own words, instead of them having to pick from a choice of already formulated answers. When
asking open ended questions, the students and teachers can freely answer with meaningful
responses, researchers can gather rich and in an explanatory nature. The researcher can listen

The two CEO s we are considering for this paper have two very different approaches, and what
we can only assume is two very different types of organizations. Without knowing the identity of
the CEO for the e mail, we don t get a lot of background on the company they are running like we
do with SAS. It doesn t tell us the actions they have previously taken in regards to the problem,
much about the companyperks or moral, or how long the problem has been going on and it s direct
effect to company production. However, it does tell us a lot about this CEO s managementstyle just
from this message. First of all, this is an e mail. We don t know the meetings that have been
called to address this issue prior to this, but by sending this in an e mail he is making it very
impersonal. The CEO here isn t showing the effort necessary to really get his point across through
the means he chose. They are also very threatening, by deciding to take away privileges such as the
Associate Center and the Stock Purchase Program instead of providing incentives for improvement.
The CEO for this company needs to take responsibility for his part in allowing the culture of his
company to facilitate this type of behavior in its employees. A hiring freeze and a reduction in
staff will cause more work all around, whether specific employees are part of the problem, or not.

Freedom of expression has always been a heated and heavily debated topic throughout our society,
more so in recent times due to the increasing amount of freedoms that we gain. However, it is only
natural that free speech be something of extreme amounts of conflict since this right is expressed in
the very first amendment of the Constitution. But, how loosely should such an important document
within our history be interpreted? This has been a question for years, and it is obvious that this
particular amendment presents itself through our day to day activities. The real issue with freedom
of speechis that, even though it is presented to us, there are obviously people who would abuse it
to invoke emotional distress, or even to invoke acts of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Larry Flynt, is definitely protected under this amendment that was actually created by the United
States government. How is it justified that the government takes away this basic freedom,
freedom of speech and of the press, from Larry Flynt, creator of Hustler, if it goes against the
morals that they created for society? According to Mills, if this political right is infringed upon, it
is completely justified that resistance occurs, as it did. Mills goes on later in his work to state,
...there needs to be protection also against the tyrant of the prevailing opinion and feeling; against
the tendency of society to impose...its own ideas and practices as rules of conduct on those who
dissent from them; to fetter the development...of any individuality not in harmony with its ways,
and compel all characters to fashion themselves upon the model of its own. (Mills 116) By Mills
bringing up the idea behind falling into society s stereotypes and expectations, it is further validated
that one should not be silenced, whether literally or figuratively, due to society s discomfort.
Individuals should not be forced into the fads in which society finds acceptable. People are entitled
to their own opinions, and that is truly the beginnings of individuality. John Stuart Mills is one such
philosopher who, very graciously and rightly, defends such individuality

22. Frank Wedekind s Spring Awakening And Atonement
Frank Wedekind s Spring Awakening and Ian McEwan s Atonement examine the notion that those
who abuse power do so for personal gain. Through the use of themes such as: Power in sexuality,
including notions of submission and dominance. Coming of age, regarding how children either
don t want to grow up, or contrastingly grow up too quickly. The power dichotomy between
parents and children, contrasting children oppressed by their parents to those who act as a parental
figure, and the use of guilt to disempower or empower. While examining these themes both authors
use a plethora of literary techniques, in order to emphases their own views on the topic of distorted
power. Power in sexuality is a concurrent theme in Wedekind s Spring Awakening

Additionally, when Melchior yells, There s no such thing as love! It s all self, all ego , he is
using his knowledge of Freud and his Nihilist view on society to disempower Wendla, causing her
to question her innocent views of love. McEwan utilises intertextuality to Nabokov s Lolita, to
support the power imbalance in the relationship between Paul Marshall and Lola Quincy. Lola s
name is a direct reference to Lolita which subsequently foreshadows her eventual rape, and the
virulent relationship created between the two dichotomous characters. Both Paul and Melchior use
their superior knowledge or age to disempower more innocent characters in their respective texts.
Whereas, Robbie contrastingly, empowers Cecilia with his words. Both texts are a bildungsroman,
dealing with the power acquisition often attributed to coming of age in an oppressive and
infantilising society. In Spring Awakening, Wendla s body has outgrown her mind, mentioning that
underneath her sackcloth... [she ll] be dressed like a fairy queen a symbolic act that highlights
Wendla s innocence, juxtaposed against the harsh, scratchy imagery associated with a sackcloth,
that represents her mature physical self. However, due to the rigid structure of her family, Wendla
was bereaved from the power often paired with this process of maturing. In Atonement, the most
blatant example of Briony s coming of age is her lack of development between Part One and Part

23. The Effects Of News Media On Today s Society
The news media s role in today s society is interlocked and essential to the conveying of
information. The news media has access to television broadcasting and has people to go find
stories to broadcast. However, as time has progressed, the news media has become more and more
opinionated. Consequently, the bias of the news media in their reporting s has tainted the opinions
of the American people. By creating a strict set of laws pertaining to the reporting of news, bias
within reports will have to decrease; causing a less opinionated audience, people feeling better about
themselves and humanity, and the United Statesgrowth as a stronger country.
The news media in today s world is far too opinionated. On a regular basis, the news media and
other news outlets are often discussing opinions, their own opinions, and other s opinions about
stories and news reports rather than the reports themselves. During a discussion about Donald
Trump s immigration policy on August 25th, 2016, on the CNN newsroom, one of the reporters
said that we heard this shift on his immigration policy. However, one of the other reporters
defended Mr. Trump by saying. First, let me correct the record and goes on to do so and they
argue back and forth (Person Discusses). In this report, what Donald Trump said nor any part of
his speech was shared. The report was wholly opinion based. Although, the news media will share
clips and snips of stories in many of their stories.
However, many news

24. How Did Andrew Jackson s Economic Policies Affect The Economy
Andrew Jackson s economic policies and views on banking during the mid 19th century s impacted
the United States economy negatively. The closing of the Second National Bank created an uneasy
economy that put all federal funding into state banks and left the United States economy
susceptible to economic depression and his creation of the Specie Circular caused the panic of
1837. Andrew Jacksoneconomic policies and views on the national bank took an economy that was
working efficiently, after the Era of Good Feelings, and weakened it immensely by removing the
National Bank and implementing poor economic policies.

The Specie Circular did not stop the rush of speculators from buying land but they could not sell

inability of the state banks to recover the money they lent out in their loans caused them to fail.
Jacksons poor policy that ruined many state banks caused the panic of 1837. The lack of supply
of gold and silver in the state banks and the major demand for it, caused by the Specie Circular,
forced the banks to stop issuing hard currency. When people came to withdraw their deposits the
banks could not give people their money because they ran out of hard currency. It was not until
congress agreed to federally fund the state banks with the surplus gained by the land rush that they

26. Social Theories In The Breakfast Club
The 1985 comedy drama movie, The Breakfast Club, included five teenagers who are in
Saturday school detention for various reasons and at the end of the day must write an essay that
explains how they define themselves. In Saturday school detention, each teenager learns about
one another, what they have in common, and why they were assigned to be in detention. The
teens all have similar problems with stereotyping of how society and especially how their
parents define them. In the movie, four of the main characters: Claire, John, Andrew, and
Allison experience at least one of the following theories: strain theory, social learning theory,
control theory, and labeling theory. Labeling theory is the view that society creates deviance
through a system of social control organizations that label certain people as a delinquent or even
juvenile delinquent. An example of someone being highly labeled would be John Bender. John
was the criminal student who smoked, skipped school, and broke all the rules. John experienced
labeling theory, ultimately by his dad as being a lazy free loader and by the principal as being
the worst kid at the school. To compare, he also went through the strain theory stage, the stage
when society puts peer pressure on an individual caused by the failure to achieves one s social
goals. John was labeled by his peers, father, and even principle as someone who did not care
about the rules in school or succeeding in life. However, he had his own self label where he
accepted the fact that he was a trouble maker. Furthermore, an example in the movie is when he felt
he was treated unfairly by the principle so, to get revenge he would leave the classroom and
wandering the halls to make the teacher come find him and the students. With John demonstrating
being the bad influence on his classmates, he puts peer pressure on all the rest of the students to
display deviant behavior. Social control is when a person unites to society that prevents them from
violating rules therefore; if the bond weakens, they are free to commit delinquent acts. Travis
Hirschi, a sociologist, argued that the social bond a person maintains with society contains the
commitment to the pursuit of conventional activities, such as

27. Mba Paper
RUNNING HEAD: ARGUMENTATION AND COLLABORATION
The purpose of this paper is to identify key issues based on lectures and readings done from this
past week. From the readings, the main focus for the week dealt with Argumentation and
Collaboration. If in any situation, how would the argument be constructed and supported, how to
explain the way perception will affect decision making, and lastly explain the importance of having
clear communication in business.
Argumentation
Argumentation deals with learning persuasive techniques of how to convince someone to think or
act in a particular way. No matter what the issue maybe, there is always going to be someone that

Communication
The vitality of communication is very important. Robbins and Judge (2007) tells us that an idea, no
matter how great, is useless until it is transmitted and understood by others according to chapter 11
(Organizational Behavior). Without the function of communication, it is impossible for anything to
go on; nothing will exist. In order for communication to take place, it must be a phase of
transmission of meaning from one person to another and the meaning must be understood.
The most useful concept or idea is communication. Communication is what makes things or break
things. The effectiveness of how the well the communication is will determine the outcome of any
situation. Anyone can communicate, but as stated before, there must be transmission and meaning.
Realistically, all of the concepts and issues relate to the organization. Everyday, argumentation is
performed. Why do you feel this is adequate for the company? Not only argumentation, but
decisions are made throughout the entirety of the day. Have the decisions been thought out? Will
this solve the problem or make a difference? Lastly, there is communication. Communication will
determine to what extent the work will get completed, and how well information was perceived. All
of these aspects are essential in an organization and helps make the organization better place.

In conclusion, reading the material gave the opportunity

28. Marianne Moore s Poem “Poetry”
Poetry like so many other things in life is complicated and easily misunderstood, similar to the
poem entitled Poetry by Marianne Moore. Through her unique way of writing Moore uses literary
devices imagery and personification to make the readers question why it is she has come to dislike
(line 1) poetry. In particular, her word choice leaves a lot of room to wonder exactly why she has
chosen to write it this way. A main theme that is represented in this poem is conformity and
whether or not it is something to be followed.
There are many ways in which one can convey themselves. Marianne Moore uses her speaker s

Her use of imagery Hands that can grasp, eyes / that can dilate, hair that can rise / if it must,
these things are important (Lines 4 6) becomes a thing that one can visibly see the action taking

the action later mention with the animals. These are reactions, just like the animals she
describes later on. Although these reactions are perceived differently because they are not
subjected to a specific being. The reactions shown here are the type one sees when one is either
scared or overly excited. Moore s implication of Hands that can grasp (Line 6) is plural in
reference could lead someone to think that there is more than one person s feelings involved. An
alternative way of looking at the line would be to suggest the hands that can grasp (Line 6) are a
physical anchor in reality.
My favorite lines come from the middle section of the poem I find there can be so taken just from
these few lines:

30. FDR Inaugural Address
FDR Inaugural Address Speech Analysis Essay
In arguably one of the most powerful of American political addresses ever given, President
Franklin Delano Roosevelt argues that, the only thing we have to fear is fear itself , and that in
order to restore America to its pre depression state, the American people must believe that he can
lead them through the Great Depression, so long as they appoint him the wartime executive powers
required to handle the situation effectively. Roosevelt emphasizes the need for action through
the use of biblical allusions and referring to himself as the prophet is this time of need, taking the
role of Jesus, declaring, The money changers have fled from their high seats in the temple of our
civilization. We may now restore that temple to the ancient truths. ; he plays upon the social
needs as well as builds up his credibility with the audience by stating his plan to combat the
depression, broad Executive power to wage a war against the emergency, as great as the power
that would be given to me if we were in fact invaded by a foreign foe. ; and cements his argument
with his claims of value and policy, exposing the flaws of pre depression American society, and
eventually calling for the change he believes necessary to force America out of the depression, we
apply social values more noble than mere monetary profit. . Franklin Delano Roosevelt goes to such
lengths to earn the support of his fellow Americans in order to unite the entire country in

The Celluloid Closet is a documentary directed/written by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman.
Thefilm shows numerous clips of actors who act in the role as a gay, bisexual, transgender, or a

like that in Hollywood. They interview men and women who either portray as a character in the
film, by giving their personal experience what it like to be that character they portray, or either
directed/written a movie about it. In the beginning of the film, the word SISSY is a trait in a boy
or a man that associate with feminine behavior or style. It can also be a woman with muscular traits.
Does Sissy liberate? Yes, Hollywood allowed it. Sissy s was never open about their sexuality
they were mainly like a subliminal in a film. The subject was never discussed privately or even in
public, but you knew by the behavior of the men or women. Hollywood industry felt that if a man
dress as a woman they think it comedy. When a woman dress as a man they think she look pretty or
sexy for both men and women. Looking through the history of homosexual, gay and lesbian films,
you can see the progress, but you can also see the era in the time when people at once was afraid
to now people are more open. For example, in the 1920s people was more scared to come out and
be who they are. At the time not, much actors wanted to act or portray as homosexual because they

Spicer v. New Image Int l, Inc., 447 F. Supp. 2d 1226, 1233 (D. Kan. 2006). The court should
distinguish between true mistakes in identity and tactical mistakes concerning who to sue.
Bloesser v. Office Depot, Inc., 158 F.R.D. 168, 171 (D. Kan. 1994). If a plaintiff is aware of the
identity and involvement of other actors, but chooses not to include them in the original
complaint then a mistake likely has not been made. McGregor v. Snyder, 427 F. App x 629, 632
(10th Cir. 2011). The nature of the complaint also matters. If a complaint shows a clear intent to
include a party, but just fails to include the name of the actor then a mistake likely occurred.
Butler v. Nat l Cmty. Renaissance of California, 766 F.3d 1191, 1203 (9th Cir. 2014). The
original complaint can serve as evidence for whether the defendants should have known that a
mistake of identity was made. Id. For example in Kruspki, a mistake was present because the
plaintiff made a mistake in naming the defendant, but otherwise made it clear who the defendant
was and so the Court found it reasonable that the Defendant would know that it was intended

was a valid mistake because of the clarity of the complaint and the fact it was it was a clear case of

His relationship with his father is strained and he becomes jealous of him. He even asks his
mother not to sleep with the father anymore (Lawrence 215). Paul meets Miriam Leivers and
although he likes her, he repeats the same misogynistic behavior as William did with Lily. He
feels he would be betraying his mother by being with her. However, the idea that Paul is
interested in someone other than his mother shows an attempt to break the oedipal fixation he
has. But, the mother foils this attempt by making him feel guilty for wanting to be with Miriam.
She says, I can t bear it. I could let another woman but not her. She d leave me no room, not a bit
of room. And I ve never you know Paul I ve never had a husband, not really (Lawrence 212). This
same behavior the mother exhibited with William, by being jealous of his female companions, is
now being inflicted on Paul. She reinforces the Oedipus complex that is within Paul by
suffocating him and in a subtle way asking him to replace her husband. Paul s relationship with
Miriam is reduced to friendship. He has to repress any romantic feelings that he might have for
her, so she will not replace his mother. Later in the novel, Paul does become physically intimate
with Miriam, but it is short lived because Paul will not marry her. This also shows that Paul suffers
from a fear of intimacy as he continues to remain emotionally detached from Miriam. Once again,

It is evident he feels it his duty to make his wife happy, yet not out of love, but out of pity. His
feeling of pity then becomes extended to another woman, with whom he begins an adulterous

about by sexuality or a love of beauty. But rather it is the result of a sense of pity and
responsibility that he feels towards the helpless victims (Keerthi 124). Scobie himself does not
seem to be an overtly sexual character; he blames this on his age but it seems as though pity has

hence he continues to provide them both with this pity love, which simultaneously makes him

Thatcherism changed and affected not only the political landscape of Britain but also the mere
social fabric that Britain had lived by for decades. Thatcher s policies of the 1970s and 1980s
would go on to shape the nation well into the millennium.
This essay will aim to analyze the extent to which New Labour having been elected in 1997
continued the implementation of Thatcher s policies.
The many reasons why New Labour under Tony Blaircontinued Thatcherite policies will be
explored throughout this paper. Once analysis of New Labour has been explored, this paper will
attempt to narrow the consequences of Thatcher s policy continuation to confer whether those
policies were beneficial or destructive to British political discourse and British society.
It is important to give a brief explanation as to what is meant by the term Thatcherism in British
political discourse. Thatcherism according to Heffernan suggests that there are several
contradictory explanations to the meaning of Thatcherism. He contends that Thatcherism could be
explained via a short hand description of what the Thatcher led Conservative governments did at
any one time or similarly it could be explained as a popular political movement, a policy style; a
form of leadership; or.an ideological project, a vehicle which advanced a post social democratic
neo liberal political agenda (Heffernan, 2001). The term Thatcherism is therefore an umbrella term
that not only describes the Leader of the ruling

Battle of Mogadishu: Battle Analysis
Throughout history, the United States Government and Armed Forces have learned from
devastating mistakes and decisive victories making the US Armed Forces superior to most, if not

Hope, Operation Provide Relief, and the Joint Special Operations Task Force missed the mark on
such lessons learned . The inadequate intelligence; the ignorance of tactics, techniques, and
procedures; and absence of reinforcements cost needless loss of US troops, and crippling a

not care for his people or his country. This cartoon signifies the social and moral issue that Donald
Trump has introduced to America. In this essay the satirical elements will be explored and
explained to further discuss the context and tone of this cartoon.
In this image it is clearly seen by the audience that Donald Trump is the target being criticised. He
is being criticised for his inadequate job at being the President of the United States. The character is
blatantly shown as Donald Trump due to the caricature technique used to embellish his persona and
main features. The features that the cartoonist exaggerated were his combed hair, squinted eyes,
small hands and his suit. The cartoonist clearly believes that Donald Trump is failing at being a
President, and that he doesn t care for America, nor does he care for any monuments that represent
the United States.

is mocking. This is seen as Donald Trump is in the excavator and is dumping all of America s

Lawson agrees and physically hands over the Ever Gold s patent draft to Naomi White, the

Regarding Unlawful Termination: New Hampshire is considered to be a work at will state.
Which means an employee can be terminated at any time for any reason. Of course there are
exceptions to this rule, specifically regarding the following acts, which are pertinent to Lawson
s termination. New Hampshire is covered under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining
Notification (WARN) Act. Greene s falls under the WARN act since it employs more than 100
full time employees, or 100 employees that work a combined 4000 hours a week. WARN
explicitly states that if a reduction of 33% or more of employees are laid off in a 90 day period,
then a 60 day notice is required. New Hampshire also has its own mini WARN Act, which covers
the same basic principles with some slight alterations to suite smaller businesses. In either case
Greene s falls under both the federal and New Hampshire s WARN act. New Hampshire also falls
under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), which states that once the employee
meets certain criteria that employee is allowed to take up to 12 weeks of leave every 12 months to
recuperate from serious health conditions,

40. Critique And Critique Of Kantian Ethics
Colin Rinne
PHI 110 Ethics
Kant Analysis and Critique

Examination of Kantian Ethics
There is no possibility of thinking of anything at all in this world, or even out of it, which can be
regarded as good without qualifications, except a good will. (Kant, pg.7 393). No other thing that
may appear good can be unqualifiedly good, as even Talents of the mind...Gifts of power...[Other]
qualities...Have no intrinsic unconditional worth, but they always presuppose, rather, a good will,
which restricts the high esteem in which they are otherwise rightly held. (Kant, pg.7 393 394). So
Immanuel Kant introduces the public to his Grounding for the Metaphysics of Morals, which results
not in simply a grounding work, but one that is utterly groundbreaking. This opener, wholly devoted
to the establishment of the importance of will and intention, notes the guiding characteristics of a
good will. As enumerated previously, Kant recognizes the plausible potential positivity of plenty
concepts, but remains of the mind that none of these are good in themselves without the efforts of a
good will to guide and restrict them in a manner that perpetuates their positivity.
He persuasively unveils imperatives both universal and hypothetical, the elements of
unconventional practical reason, and examples of extreme controversy that force people to consider
situations from a previously unconsidered moral perspective; however, Kant s initial moral work is
not without its critique: ranging from

41. Comparing The English Civil War And The Glorious Revolution
While John Locke was writing both the Second Treatise of Government and A Letter
Concerning Toleration there were two influences that were his inspiration for those two
writings. The English Civil War (1642 1649) and The Glorious Revolution (1688 1689). The
Civil War because of disconnect between the people and the monarchy. The Glorious Revolution
was a bloodless war that installed William III and Mary II into power in France and he was very
religious in his roman catholic believes. Locks writing stresses two different aspects involving the
issues he saw from these two events and how they should be fixed.
First let get a background on Mr. Locke. Growing up during the middle of the English Civil War,
his views were heavily influenced by his father who fought with parliament against the Monarchy.

He believes that the legislative branch is the most important part of the English government. Their
power, in the utmost bounds of it, is limited to the public good of society (pg. 746). Where
instead of the law makers only making laws to benefit themselves, they should do what is best for
the commonwealth. Locke continues to stay that the legislative s power should come from the
commonwealth. It is true, governments cannot be supported without great charge, and it is fit
every one who enjoys his share of the protection, should pay out of his estate his proportion for
the maintenance of it (pg. 749). Locke states that if someone partakes in the protection and
services of the government, they should pay takes in order to help the government. This makes
sense, if someone reeks the benefits that the government offers them, than we should contribute to
the government. Even if we were or weren t born in this country, we are old enough to make our
decisions so if we do not approve what our government is doing we have one of three options. Act
and make changes, leave, or deal with

42. The Mormon Religion
The Mormon religion first came to light in the early 1800s, in the northeastern United States. The
Second Great Awakening provided the perfect religious atmosphere for new religious dogma.
Furthermore, this new religion offered fresh perspective and ideals; which helped to further
alienate its followers from mainstream gospel. Faced with extreme prejudice from Protestants, it
wasn t until the Mormons fled west that their religious prerogative flourished. The hyper
emotional state of affairs originating from the Second Great Awakening resulted in religious
turbulence which served as the foundation for Mormonism whose continued development and
survival directly correlated to westward expansion and the freedoms of the West. Early in the
19th century, The Second Great Awakening, a popular evangelical movement, was raging through
upstate New York. Nicknamed the Burned Over District, this region was often swept by the
flames of the Holy Spirit thus creating a supercharged atmosphere perfect for up and coming
religious zealots (Gopnik 4). Within this tidal wave of religious fervor the stage was set for the
introduction of Mormonism in the 1820s by self proclaimed prophet, Joseph Smith. Claiming the
angel Moroni paid him a visit and guided him to a set of buried golden plates, Smith purported that
God had blessed him with the ability to understand the ancient texts inscribed upon them (Gopnik
2). Because of this gift and God s benevolence, Smith was able to translate the
