This is a quote by Kevin Bacon, a very awesome and apparently worldly actor, and it perfectly
captures the essence of the theme that I have come to for The Great Gatsby. The theme I see most
strongly reflected in the book is this: Although greed and lust are human nature, they are often used as
a substitute for happiness, but almost always lead to decay. I will provide examples of this theme by
looking into events and the behavior of characters throughout the plot of the book.
One main event in the book that I believe strongly represents the theme is when Gatsby is shot while
floating in the pool that he had one of the people working for him wait to drain even though it was the

Steinbeck introduces the mere impact that these migrants they ve had in the country, but in most cases,
it s not seen like that. In The Harvest Gypsies , Steinbeck writes a deliberate passage to assure that

Am I the same person today as I was yesterday? Will I be the same person a few years from now as I
am now? Kagan explains a few theories that can help with figuring out what makes me, me. There is
the soul theory, the body theory, and the personality theory. The body theory consists of the brain and
body theory and the torso and body theory. After looking into each theory carefully through Kagan s
lectures, I found that there were flaws in all three theories. The theory that I favor, however, is the
body theory and more specifically the brain aspect of that theory. In my essay I will discuss why I

To start with, the body theory is not mysterious like the soul theory. If I believed in souls, and favored
