Mitosis produces two genetically identical daughter cells from one parent cell and is the process by which somatic (body) cells divide. Some single-celled organisms like amoeba reproduce through mitosis and cytokinesis, resulting in clones with low genetic variability. Bacterial cells do not reproduce through mitosis but through binary fission, also resulting in clones. Stem cells are cells capable of differentiating into various tissue types, with omnipotent stem cells able to become any tissue and totipotent stem cells able to become a range of tissues.
