Data Visualization
• In the lab the following questions arise:
• How can I take a look at the trends in my data?
• How do I get my historical and current data in one overview?
• How do I visualize my data in understandable and easy to read charts?
• How often do my system suitability tests fail?
• Etcetera…
• Presenting the data in a graphical way clarifies a lot
• Use the embedded charting tools
20. 21
Data Visualization
• Interactive charts for data visualization
• Fully customizeable
• Templates for the most common tasks
• Available for both the view
settings and report templates

Report the Right Data
• Sometimes it is required to report specific data
• All injections where the amount of a component is above a certain level
• All Check Standards from a specific analysis
• All injections that failed a System Suitability Test (SST)
• All injections from all instruments in a lab from the past year
• …
• This can be like searching for a needle in a haystack
• Find single or multiple samples in data structure or database
• Collated data needs to be reported
23. 24
Injection Query
• A set of search criteria used to find a particular injection or
group of injections
• Quick Search Criteria rules define criteria for simple database
searches
• Computed Criteria rules define criteria for searches that require
Chromeleon CDS to calculate values of variables
• Can be reported as a regular sequence

Injection Queries and Reporting
• Locate samples with a single mouse-click
• Easily create database queries without advanced
database knowledge
• Search based on any combination of parameters
• Directly access and report search results

Multiple Output Formats
• Reporting Data = Printing ?
• Nowadays reporting is often done in in electronic format
• PDF or spreadsheet for customer
• Result export as text or GAML file for LIMS
• Chromeleon CDS provides automatic printing or exporting of
sequence results with just two clicks
30. 31
• Multiple output formats for all purposes:
• Portable document format (PDF)
• Excel (XLS)
• Text files (TXT)
• Generalized Analytical Markup Language (GAML)
• AnDI/NetCDF file format (CDF)

• Save time
• No need to (manually) transfer data from Chromeleon CDS to an
external spreadsheet
• One click report of laboratory wide data
• Reduce errors
• Transcription errors are prevented when data is not transferred
• Automatic overview of errors in report
• Dynamic updating of results

Summary – Bringing It All Together
Chromeleon CDS has all the tools to help you
report your data to your requirements!
The last step in the chromatography process is the reporting of results. This can be done in various way. Some people want to have an immediate overview of the results, others will use customized reports to perform additional calculations. Some will report results of one or a series of samples, others of an overview of the entire laboratory.
Sometimes users, for example process operators, only want to see the final results, “the numbers”`, even without opening the sequence. The injection list can easily be configured to show these results. It is then not even required to open the sequence to view the final results.
Very often, in order to meet reporting requirements, reports need to be customized. In many chromatography data systems this is a tedious and time consuming job, as the reporting options within the software can be limited, especially when additional calculations are required. To avoid this, many customers transfer the data obtained from the CDS to en external spreadsheet, for example Microsoft Excel. This is a time consuming process, and when transferring the data errors can be made. In addition, when making changes to the chromatography data, the spreadsheets are not dynamically updated. Also it is not possible to have change control in the spreadsheet.
Chromeleon CDS provides a flexible spreadsheet-based report designer. User-defined report templates can be easily created and modified to meet reporting requirements with full traceability and without the need to export data to external spreadsheets.
The Chromeleon CDS Report Template can be very simple or as complex as required, containing only 1 or 2 sheets, or as many as necessary.
The report cells can contain plain text, or report variables to display dynamic content.
The report templates can also contain various types of report tables, from which you can see some examples here.
And of course various plots can be added as well.
On top of that also custom calculations can be added…..
As well as the possibility to chart your data.
When combining all of this together you can create exactly the report you need.
As you can see Chromeleon CDS provides a flexible spreadsheet-based report designer. There is already a selection of predefined report templates available, but user-defined report templates can be easily created and modified to present the results as required. There is an instant update when the source data changes and full traceability, without the need to export data to external spreadsheets.
When custom reports are created, of course this needs to be checked for errors, and maybe even validated. Especially with extensive customized reports this can be a time consuming and tedious job. <Click>Chromeleon CDS provides a built-in error check for report templates. This automatically checks every entry in the report, using a simple interface.
When checking the report you get an overview of all errors. When selecting one, this automatically displays the location and selects it in the report. Additionally the errors can immediately be fixed.
When working in a lab a lot of questions arise. The manager wants to have an idea what‘s going on in the lab, or with the instruments: <Read example questions>. <Click> Generally it helps to present the data in a graphical way, as „a picture speaks a thousand words“. <Click> To help you do this you can use Chromeleon CDS‘ embedded Charting Tools.
There are the Interactive Charts to visualize all Chromatography data. <Click> All charts are fully customizable. Every Chromeleon CDS report variable can be used to create the charts you need. <Click> There also are predefined templates for the most common tasks. <Click> The charting tools are available for both the View Settings and the Report Templates.
As with all objects in Chromeleon CDS, the data in the interactive charts is dynamically linked. <Click> When you select an injection in the navigation pane, this injection is highlighted in the interactive chart, and the other way around. <Click> Similar, the chart shows the results of the peak that is selected in the chromatogram plot.
Until now we looked at reporting results of a single run. However, often laboratory wide reports are required showing information from multiple sources. Some examples are [Read bullet points]. Looking for this data can be like searching for a needle in a haystack. For laboratory reports, such as control charts, it can be time consuming to manually collate the required data and update the report. Using an Injection Query (a simple set of search criteria) combined with Interactive Charts, gives instant feedback on the quality of your analyses.
Read Bullet points <Click Once>
This is an example of an injection query. <Click> When saved, the query is always available and can be executed at any time. <Click> These are the search criteria. Here you can see we are looking for all injections that have the type unknown and have an associated processing method AS12A Anions in Water and where the injection name contains coolant. <Click>The resulting injections from the entire Data Vault are displayed. <Click>To make sure the results are reported in a consistent way, the correct report templates can be associated with the query.<Click>The Query results are similar to a regular sequence and can be reported as such.
When the query results are opened these can be reported as a regular sequence, giving an immediate overview of results over multiple sequences, for example which samples were out of specification.
Another example of the powerful query function is that you can easily extract laboratory-wide information, such as instrument usage. This is invaluable when justifying an instrument purchase or for workflow analysis or monitoring sample turnaround times.
Generally when people think about reporting their data, they think about an actual printout. However, nowadays this is not necessarily the case. You might want to send the reports as a pdf document to a customer or as a spreadsheet to a laboratory not using Chromeleon. Another option is exporting the data in a format readable by the laboratory LIMS, such as a text file, or GAML.
