Stereotypes In The Chess Bedroom
This photo seems to me to resemble a chess match occurring in the background while the
foreground is of a coach/teacher and his student. There appears to be other activities happening
with in the photo such as the teaching interaction between the man and boy in the foreground, a
man in a white shirt who appears to be studying something (a manual, his watch, a playbook, or
notes) that cannot be seen due to the chess table blocking whatever he is looking at, and to his
right a gentleman taking pictures. The gentleman taking pictures appears to look like a journalist
or photographer for a newspaper venue or magazine or even for a chess club organization. He may
also be a volunteer taking pictures of the event or interactions. Additional activities occurring in the
background displays more men playing chess (sitting down around the table) while other gentlemen
are observing (men standing around in the background looking down to the chessboard of the test

I have two hypotheses as to why this is the case. The first involves a more strategic purposeful
event for men to participate or that the photographer intentionally took the picture in a way that
women were not present at the time of the photo. One interesting element that came to mind is that
if this photo were used as a cover story picture it illustrates a form of gender stereotyping by either
intentionally, through the use of Photoshop techniques or unintentionally staging the picture so that
no women are present (Lester, 2014). I think at the time of this picture the stereotypical idea of
chess and events that promoted chess tournaments or games were known to be a male dominated

Chapter eleven of James Svara The Ethics Primer was the conclusion to the book and explained
to the reader the duties of a public administrator. The jist of this chapter was to help the reader
identify and clarify, for anyone who was still confused, what a public administrator was, and how
they should conduct themselves. As we read the first three page we are given a list of eleven

Just a couple classes ago Professor Holland discussed to us how the attacks in Paris are all over
the news, and rightly so, but just the day before a bombing occurred in Beirut that killed almost
50. The coverage for this was minimal. It took me 10 minutes to look through news articles to
find out information on it. It made me agree even more with Professor Hollands statement that
we as people and even the media, value some lives more than others. Every attack by isis is just

I believe Brofenbrenner theory and Coaching Philosophy cycle are closely linked because as the
cycle suggests, when we experience new things we go through a process of response, and
consequence, and from that our philosophy adapts. Much like the ecological theory suggests that

The mutations though are not found in other primates, even in chimpanzees the closes relative to
humans alive (Associated Press). So at some point Humans evolutionary track shifted, incorporating
this mutated gene.
The question that next needs to be asked is why is this important, what does the gene mutation
actually do? What is being suggested is that when the gene mutated, there was less muscles
pulling and attached on the cranial bone of our ancestors. And because muscles can stunt bone
growth and will sculpt the bones that it is attached to. It can have a crucial role in bone growth,
in this case skull growth. When the head structures of the macaque (as well as other primates)
were compared to humans, it was seen that the crests on the heads differed as well. The large
crests on the macaque exemplify the how jaw muscles attach to the head and leave little room for
the brain, and this crest is close to non existent in human heads for smaller, less powerful jaws. By
having smaller muscles there are smaller anchors attached to the head and the skull is free to grow
into a round shape. It is thus suspected that powerful jaws are incompatible with large powerful

What is Anti Intellectualism? According to Dictionary.com, Anti Intellectualism is defined as being
hostile toward intellectuals and the modern academic, artistic, social, religious worlds as well as
other theories that are associated with them. Although Richard Hofstadter s Anti Intellectualism in
American Life won the 1964 Pulitzer Prize, it is now almost fifty fives out of date. Not to mention
the ideas within the book are seen as suggesting a type of self defensive justification rather than an
actual deep investigation. Hoftstader used the aftermath of McCarthyism and how there were wide
range witch hunts among the academics and progressives and how that is influenced by the reform,
socialists and communist movements between the World Wars. Applying McCarthyism, Hoftstader

and education. Taking into consideration the year the book was written, each angle is explored

For one, it is hard to incorporate many mediums. As I practice giving this performance, I need to
know specifically at what time I will need to turn the page. This is vital to the project, as I need
to have the text, music, and illustrations line up perfectly to accurately represent the forest
landscape in each medium. To solve this problem, I have to go through my performance many
times, noting what the words say, how to inflex my voice, and at what time I need to turn the
page so that the performance will run smoothly and accurately represent every aspect of the
forest landscape. Another challenge that I have is trying to replay the song, since I currently
can only play it from YouTube. To make sure this isn t a problem, I will download the song and put
it on replay as I perform. However, despite these challenges, I feel a lot of success with this project!
I feel that I can incorporate many mediums clearly and concisely describe how each makes a
