Do Childs Shoe Size Increase with Age Essay
Do Children s shoe size increase in age?IntroductionI teased apart from my evidence relevant data
collected three important bits of information being, age, shoe size and gender I then gathered the data
and evaluated the information after converting it into tables, graphs and charts. I gathered data from
various ages, with various shoe size. Using evidence to understand and conclude which hypothesis is
the most accurate. I understood the frame work of my report and from prior knowledge I already had a
thesis of my own. Using mind mapping I created Ideas for obtaining relevant data.AimThe aim of my
investigation is to have obtained enough relevant data to confirm the most accurate hypothesis and
reinforce my argument. The evidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

understand, firstly the average shoe size overall, having relevant information allowed me to devise
charts, graphs and tables to evaluate whether shoe size increase with age.DiscussionI feel the range of
age could be better as I had no knowledge of the children s age before the questionnaire was
completed by them which altered my results. The results clearly supported the Hypothesis. Some
results I would not have predicted for instance a thirteen year old boy with size seven shoe. Certain
factors such as gender may have affected my results, some of the participants were teenagers and were
probably experiencing growth spurts especially male participants as some results were quite surprising
as mentione previously. I asked thirty participants which I felt was enough children to have enough
date to devise a report maybe the range of the participants ages may have given me an interested twist
to the Hypothesis. If I was to

The Vanishing Point In Renaissance Art
a) Using an image sourced from the lectures, explain how the application of the vanishing point
changed representation; and demonstrate the location of the vanishing point in the image, describing
your rationale. 500 words.
During the Renaissance, the arts gained an intellectual status that was previously unheard of thanks to
the application of the vanishing point. Renaissance artists spent their time experimenting ways to
create the illusion of space on a two dimensional surface; Fillipo Brunelleshi was among the first to
devise an effective system of doing so (Babick, 2010). This system created the illusion of space, or
better known as perspective, by utilising a vanishing point. The vanishing point is also referred to as
the point of infinity, meaning the point in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Contrary to red, blue is a cool colour used to convey feelings of calmness, sadness, and melancholy. It
is also associated with royalty due to its use in classical mythology to represent gods and heaven.
More recently blue has become associated with gender neutrality, often being a featured colour in
fashion labels.
In the above painting, blue is used to colour the sky, the ocean and the clothing being worn. The sky
and ocean are blue in nature which explains the colour choice but the two natural phenomenon s are
expansive and open, giving blue another connotation of openness. Blue clothing in media is used to
represent superheroes or the good guys which suggests that those in the painting clothed in blue are
this pieces protagonists.
Red and blue are commonly associated with each other, often to represent opposites. This duo of
colours is utilised together in films and other visual mediums to provide subtle visual clues of clashing
mentalities. This is prominent in gaming especially as red, not always but often, is used to represent
brawn while blue represents

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
A business report was prepared on December 2014 to address some usability issues experienced

restaurant,
http://bastapastanyc.com/ , for improved customers experience.
For this report, 3 of the 10 Heuristic principles proposed by Jakob Nielsen were used to briefly
evaluate the website aiming to identify major usability issues with the site. These Heuristic principles
used were;
1. Consistency and Standards
2. Visibility of System Status and
3. Match between Systems and Real World
Some Usability issues found from this evaluation were;

2). This should be properly categorized.

Another usability issue is that users clicking on the Photos or Gallery link on the site are expected to
see pictures of different meals being served and some interiors of the restaurant. The Gallery link
shows abstract pictures not related to the site (see Fig .3) and the Photos link shows video clips of the
restaurants rather than pictures. These shows lack of consistency.
Figure 3. Pictures shown in the Gallery menu
2.2 Visibility of System Status
It is assumed the first page that comes up on a website is its home page with some design features to
gives potential customers some insight on what the site is all about. The visual design of the site s
home page has failed to convey any substantial information that it is indeed a restaurant. Basta pasta
written on the home page meaning Just Pasta according to google is not just sufficient enough to
indicate it is a restaurant (see Fig. 4). According to Nielsen (1995), users should always be informed
about what is happening at all time on a system through the right feedbacks. A good visual design of
meals being served should be included at the background of the home page .

Saint Patrick and St Patrick s Day
Chipper Howe 4/9/14
Religion 9 H 4
Fourth Quarter Report
Part 1: The process of Canonization is the process that a person must go through to become a saint.
This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here is the
process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They must be a
very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must start a petition
to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this person s life and
decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he does a couple of
theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person. People who are
martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and holiness. Many of
the first saints were martyrs because they were persecuting Christians in the time of Jesus and a long
time after the ascension. The next step is to have at least two miracles credited to his or her name. If
they only have one miracle they will be named blessed, just like Blessed Edmund Rice. When they get
two miracles and they will in fact become a recognized saint in the Catholic Church.
Part 2: St. Patrick Saint Patrick is one of the most well known saints in the Catholic Church. Along
with the two saints, St. Nicholas and St. Valentine, St. Patrick has a worldwide day that shares the love
for them, St. Patrick s

Lufthansa Airlines
Executive Overview:
Lufthansa is the largest airline in Europe in terms of passengers carried. By 2002, Lufthansa had
become of the strongest airlines and top aviations groups in the world. Lufthansa had undergone a
decade of fundamental change. Lufthansa was transformed from a state owned, unprofitable national
airline into one of the most profitable, privately owned aviation groups in the industry. The group
turned a record loss of €350 million in 1992 into a pre tax profit of €952 million in 2002. This
financial result reflected Lufthansa s major competitive advantage its ability to respond rapidly, act

The EU economy is expected to grow further over the next decade as more countries join the union
especially considering that the new States are usually poorer than the EU average, and hence the
expected fast GDP growth will help achieve the dynamic of the united Europe. It is estimated that the
Eurozone will grow around 2.6 per cent this year (2006), on a par with other industrialized nations
such as the United States at 2.6% (Q2 2006) and 1.6 (Q3 2006).
GDP: $12.82 trillion. (2006) GDP/capita: $18,056. Annual growth of per capita GDP: 2.8% (2006).
Income of top 10%: 27.5%. Unemployment 8.8% (2006).
Opportunities:
1. GDP is growing; opportunity to take advantage of that growth.
2. The EU has made doing business across borders easier with standardized currency and regulation.
3. Inflation rates are steady along with currency rates; currency exchange risk will be lower.
Threats:
1. The European economy is not growing as fast as developing nations such as China.
2. The EU has a lot of power over the economy in terms of currency rates and regulations.
Political/Legal Segment
The European Union has evolved over time from a primarily economic union to an increasingly
political one. This trend is highlighted by the increasing number of policy areas that fall within EU
competence: political power has tended to shift upwards from the Member States to the EU. The
European Free Trade Association (EFTA) was established on May 3,

Evangelical Christianity In America
The writer of the book of Ecclesiastes is correct, What has been will be again, what has been done will
be done again; there is nothing new under the sun. (Eccl 1:9). It is especially true in America. Racial
and ethnic divisions appear to be just as wide as they were during era of slavery, Reconstruction, and
Jim Crow. Within the past century, Christianity in America, particularly Evangelical Christianity has
endeavored to address social issues like racism but unfortunately has been relatively unsuccessful.
Evangelicalism, particularly white evangelicalism must expand their understanding of cultural
engagement to include more than abortion and homosexuality. To be relevant, and maintain any
semblance of integrity, evangelicalism must apply different strategies regarding racism, classism,
justice, and equality. As an African American evangelical preacher, I believe that Scripture had more
to say about liberation other than the famous words in Exodus, Let my people go! The question is how
is an evangelical who is committed to the sufficiency of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

disheartened that very little exists on that grand scale for African American preaching. The enormous
contributions of African Americans to Christianity, demands a better memorializing of those
contributions; a work that highlights their life, their theology, as well as their rhetoric. The work I
desire to produce over the next decade will have a similar methodology of Hughes Oliphant Olds.
Along with that goal, I want to set up a digital library where students can go and listen to sermons of

Jean Jacques Rousseau Research Paper
Jean Jacques Rousseau and Karl Marx were both well renowned philosophers who have contributed
vastly to society through their works, their philosophical thinking, and their revolutionary like mind
set. However, compared to many other theorists we covered in class, Rousseau and Marx are very
critical towards the contemporary society. The contemporary society or one could say the modern
society, in existence to the time being and the social features it connects thorough, contains human
interconnection, evolution of ways of life, and anthropological and ecological transformation. Both
Rousseau and Marx view society as representative of a form of inauthenticity or alienation. However,
in order to understand why they view society in this light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Rousseau believed that man was born good, but it is society that corrupts him. In a state of nature,
there is no war, people are isolated, desires are minimal, and people lived for themselves. It is when
people are hurled into society where the corruption begins. For Rousseau, he saw that society s
negative influence of men centers on the transformation of self love, which we wish to preserve, that
when combined with reason creates a fear that allows men to take pleasure in the pain and weakness
of others. Evil, greed, and selfishness emerges as human society begans to develop. And as society
grows stronger, these ailments grow stronger with. In Discourse on the Arts and Sciences, Rousseau
states that the arts and sciences had not been beneficial to man kind because they are not human needs,
but rather the result of pride and vanity. And these technological opportunities lead to further
corruption and in a way makes the government more powerful at the expense of freedom. Also, due to
advances in science and technology the people who had a talent in this field grew with and those who
did not have that talent were left behind, thus causing inequality. And with all of this came
dependency. Those who have talent to create them were dependent by those who bought and sold
those products. And so, everyone become competitive, rivalrous, jealous, power hungry, prestige
seeking, and desirous for superiority over others. Civil

The Social Of A Social Institution
Connect structure to your social issue/topic:
1.) What social institutions are connected to your social issue/topic?
My topic is gender roles in society the social institutions which influence to the stigmatization of
gender are:
Family: Throughout history women and men have been stigmatized into categories based on their
biological sex. Parents from day one address their child based on their physical characteristics of
either a male or female. Family has a great influence because they teach their children at a young age
how to properly act, if the child choses to behave not accordance with their gender role they are
quickly corrected because acting out of your gender role is wrong.
Religion: this social institution can play a role in influencing gender norms because some religions
believe that there are specific duties and roles for each gender. For example in an Islamic religion it is
believed that women are to fulfill their duties as a wife and mother while the father is to be able to
protect and financially support the family. In Christianity women are seen as unfit to be in the high
roles of religion like being a priest.
Culture: In all cultures women have a set role in which they are to follow within their society. Here in
the United States women are working for better gender equality and more people are coming out about
who they are in the inside regardless of what gender norms they are breaking. For my third country I
picked Afghanistan, in this country women are

Masculinity as Homophobia by Michael S. Kimmel
As with a great majority of men in the world today, it is easier for me to give hugs than to accept
them. This is not my own doing, but rather centuries of men before myself being taught that the
outward expression of emotion, in any facet, was a direct form of weakness. This has led to adverse
affects in regards to a new generation of man that I find myself apart of now. This belief has forged a
lack of sentiment within men, all in the name of being a man. Do not take it the wrong way, as if to
say a lack of compassion is a bad thing, they teach young men. It is actually the contrary in a growing
market economy. As we shift to a more global marketplace, empathy of any sort is the cog in the
wheel that holds a man back in an attempt to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Men are all putting on a mask, in an attempt to hide their true selves from other males. Kimmel
suggest that society begins to use politics of inclusion or that the definition of manhood be widened to
help end the gender struggle.
For good or for worse, young boys have continuously been shaped in history to suppress any
femininity. Yes, centuries ago this was a very helpful trait seeing how wars were being waged and
exploration was at its height, but like anything times have changed. Increases in feminist and LGBTQ
movements have given men the ability to fully embrace who they really are, yet times have not caught
up to this fact. Men continue to put on a façade for one another that inhibit them. Behind closed doors,
men are fully able to embrace their true selves, but the moment they are confronted with other males,
the battle of machismo begins:
If I catch any one man, and he s alone, I get along fine with him. But just let two of the guys get
together an you won t talk. Jus nothing but mad.... You re all scared of each other, that s what. Ever
one of you s scared the rest is goin to get something on you (Steinbeck).
There is a constant unspoken battle of brawn being waged by men in society. It is what causes us to
have to get the fastest car or the cutest girl. There is always room to do better than

Life Reflected In William Cullen Bryant s Poetry
William Cullen Bryant William Cullen Bryant was a man with many different abilities and he was
well rounded between political, religious, and writing matters. He had very strong opinions on matters
that greatly influenced the United States. William Cullen Bryant had many historical and political
contributions through his life as a writer and a free willed man.
William Cullen Bryant had a very successful early life. He was considered to be a puritan since a
young age. The religious training the young boy received at his hands left such a mark upon him that
Bryant the mature poet has sometimes been called a puritan (Unger 151). Bryant was pushed by his
father and his teachings to be a puritan and keep up puritan ways. Coming from Puritans, ... Show

These diverse issues included slavery, sectionalism, the national bank, currency stabilization, the
creation of Central Park, the need for prison reform, labor rights, copyright laws, and freedom of the

his opinion on all of his political related topics. Although he did not intend to be in politics, that was a
very strong area for him. Bryant joined the Democratic Party and made the Post an organ of free trade,
free speech, abolition, and workingmen s rights. He later was a founder of the Republican Party (
William Cullen Bryant 1). The topic of slavery was one of Bryant s biggest struggles. He had a very
strong opinion against slavery and was in some cases considered to be an abolitionist. Bryant devoted
his time to trying to stop the spread of slavery. Bryant s beliefs against slavery hurt the Evening Post
and was eventually hated in the south because of his edits against slavery. He put up the slogan above
the masthead of the editorials: Free Soil, Free Labor, Free Trade, and Free Speech, which was the
slogan for the Barnburner wing of the Democratic Party, which made people hate him even more (
Bryant, William Cullen 3). Bryant thought in a way that slavery would dissipate on it s own, but
however that was not the case. With many issues legally among the savery, he began to write

Devil In The White City Analysis
(P) The debates are prevalent of the evil that largely takes responsible for the events occuring in the
novel Devil in the White City by Erik Larson. (CE) Erik Larson writes the novel in very simplistic
terms (DE) She walked upstairs. The day was hot. Flies rested on the wind sill. Outside yet another
train rumbled through the intersection (Larson 37). (FA) The more simplistic the writing, despite the
connotative meaning, allows for the further exploration of a deeper theme. Without the distraction of
unnecessary verbiage, the author is able to convict the theme in a shorter and more precise way.
Beyond the general use of simplistic writing technique, Larson defers back to the simple sentence

The International Economy And Its Far Reaching Financial...
The interconnectedness of the international economy and its far reaching financial crises has
convinced many to start rethinking the international finance system once more. In short, there is a
need for an LOLR (international lender of last resort) due to the fact that international capital flows
are not only immensely volatile but also influential in destabilizing other countries. Many argue that
an LOLR can help mitigate the effects of instability and help countries facing a crisis to restabilize. In
industrialized countries, domestic central banks have the ability to do this with the lender of last resort
operation in which the central bank lends freely during a financial crisis. However, central banks in
emerging market countries are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, no bank runs occurred and a panic was avoided. The advantage to having a LOLR in a
developed country is that it can be a lender of last resort not only to banks but also the the entire
system. This is exemplified in 1987 when the stock market crashed but the Federal Reserve was able
to offer liquidity to those that would make loans to the securities industry. The end result was a
negligible impact on the economy and a small amount of liquidity needed to be provided by Fed
needed to remedy the situation.
An LOLR becomes problematic in emerging markets in developing countries for a number of reasons.
First, many emerging market countries have most of their debt denominated in foreign currency.
Second, since their history of high and variable inflation have resulted in debt contracts, expansionary
monetary would cause expected inflation to rise drastically and domestic currency to depreciate
sharply. As a result, a LOLR has a much lower success rate than a developed country s. From a larger
perspective, the depreciation of the domestic currency leads to a deterioration in firms and banks
balance sheets because much of their debt is denominated in foreign currency. This raises the burden
of indebtedness and lowers banks and firms net worth. Third, the sharp rise of expected inflation
would cause interest rates to rise as well due to the need to protect lenders from the loss of purchasing
power when they lend.

How Is Julius Caesar Justified
Friends turn on each other all the time, but not like Brutus and Caesar. William Shakespeare s play,
Julius Caesar revolves around Caesar s assassination and the outcomes surrounding it. Brutus is one of
Caesar s closest friends but is convinced to help murder him. The murder takes place before Caesar
gains controls of Rome, as a measure of preemptive action. Brutus s precautionary action against
Caesar is not justified because he does not have proof, Caesar is a good man, and it makes things
worse for Rome. Though Caesar receives over thirty stab wounds, there is not one reason for
murdering him. Many people believe he wants to be a dictator, but they have no proof of this claim.

drachmas to each citizen as well as all of his property. When the citizens hear this, they immediately

houses (3.2.244 245). The citizens realize what a mistake it is to kill a great man and ruler like Caesar
and even take matters into their own hands, saying they will burn down houses and erupt in chaos.
The citizens are not the only ones who are saddened by Caesar s death, Brutus is as well. Brutus s
guilt haunts him with ghosts of Caesar visiting him in his sleep multiple times. The first time he sees
the ghost he does not believe it, he asks Lucius, Didst thou dream, Lucius, that thou so criedst out? To
which Lucius answers, My lord, I did not know that I did cry, (4.3.301 302). If Brutus believes he

Masculinity In The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway
Ernest Hemingway s classic historical fiction novel The Sun Also Rises comprises an eventful
timeline: bullfighting, fishing trips, male friendship, disguised alcoholism, and the differences
between femininity and masculinity and how they overlap. . His 1926 novel about members of an
expatriate friend group and one pivotal fiesta in Spain portrays a story rife with unrequited love,
symbolism, and metaphors for the Lost Generation in Europe. However, the way Hemingway focuses
on masculinity and femininity interplaying with each other and contrasts the effects of the two on all
characters and story stands out to the audience. Most of the feminine aura in the novel doesn t even
come from women. In general, Hemingway does not involve women much in his novels. Notably, the
first woman, Frances, introduced in the book is immediately made into an unsympathetic hag like
devil wife who berates and verbally abuses Robert Cohn, her unwilling husband. After a certain
amount of time, her character is written out of the novel as she vaguely le[aves] for England
(Hemingway 77). Lady Brett Ashley, the main woman of the novel, does not exude femininity either,
with her boyish haircut and mannerisms. Even though she is married to a Lord, literally making her a
Lady, she bends the early 20th centuries rules for the genders and is in fact only mentioned by her title

Analysis of an Affair in Anton Chekhov´s The Lady with the...
Anna and Dmitri are two people with a strong desire to be together, but this is conflicted by reality.
Their reality is that they are married to other people. The love that they share for one another
represents the struggle that one may face wanting to break away from reality. Dmitri was a man who
had been unfaithful to his wife quite often. Her imperfections seemed to be his only reasoning for this.
Dmitri was most likely only in Yalta to look for a new woman to have an affair with. Considering this,
being with Anna didn t bother him. He was introduced in the story as a rather selfish man who seemed
to just have his way with Anna. He referred to women as an inferior race , due to his past experience.
Anna, on the other hand, was new to the idea of being unfaithful to her husband. This scared her so
even though she knew that she loved Dmitri, she convinced herself that it was not real love that they
shared. Throughout the story, both Anna and Dmitri changed the way they felt about their lives. Dmitri
seemed to have had a very superficial relationship with his wife, and this made him appreciate his
relationship with Anna even more. Once he spots her, the scenery in the story begins to shape. It is full
of beautiful colors and light. The more exciting his life became in Yalta with Anna, the more dull and
uninteresting his life back home became. His thoughts portray to the reader that he believes Anna is
the perfect contender for an affair. The author of the story, Chekov,

I do not think it is right to deny women the right to have more than one child. This is not good for a
various amount of reasons. One reason is because if a woman were to get pregnant more than once
then she would be forced to get rid of that child which causes a lot of emotional distress to woman. In
China, they had the one child policy, which allowed women to only have one child in populated areas.
The Chinese government claimed the one child policy prevented around 400 million childbirths, but

Describe the electron activity. Formed when electrons move from atom to atom to form ions
b. Why do chlorine and sodium have charges after electron transfer? Sodium atom lost an electron
now it has a positive charge because the protons are greater than electrons. Chloride gains the electron
so there is a negative charge because electrons are greater than protons.
c. What causes the attraction between ions forming an ionic bond? By opposite charges of both ions
d. Describe the strength of ionic bonds. Use salt as your example. Ionic bonds are weak, that s why
salt can dissolve in liquids

A Doll House Character Analysis
Since the beginning of humanity people fought for resources and land to fulfill their selfish needs.
Animals also show the characteristic of selfishness whether it is a mother stealing to feed her child or
two male birds fighting for a mate. However, donating to the poor or helping the disabled is an act of
selflessness. This can also be understood in humans as selflessness and selfishness is an instinctually
necessary habit that requires balance. This shift between selfishness to selflessness is shown during
1879 in Europe s social culture. The social culture allowed men to create an egoistic and manipulative
characteristic because of this instinctual imbalance. In the play, A Doll House, written by Henrik Ibsen
in 1879, one of the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another piece of evidence in the dialogue is when Nora took up copying work that Torvald thought it
was for decorating the Christmas tree which he mocked her saying it was sorry (382). This again
suggests Nora s selflessness for taking the taunting and teasing even though she was trying to pay
back the loan she borrowed to save Trovald, who mocks her. The underlying beneficial reason is Nora
s care for her family and her fear of her husband finding out. Lastly, through this pain and fear the
shift in characterization starts to occur.
Secondly, towards the end of the play, Nora s characterization shifts to self serving because it is
advantageous to her situation. The shift in her character to selfishness is seen when she admits, The
trip was to save my husband s life (389). This shows her egocentric act against the law by committing
forgery in order to acquire money to save her husband. She commits this selfish act towards her own
advantage for her family. Although the egocentric act is an illegal crime, she justifies it with her moral
necessity. Lastly, Nora s transition to a selfish character can be seen with the use of a prop and the
movement with the prop when she hits [Dr. Rank] lightly on the ear with the stockings (395). The
prop exemplifies a sexual item to which the movement is seen in a flirtatious manner in order to ask
for a favor. The advantage of

The State Of Texas Gained Its Independence
The state of Texas gained its independence on December 29, 1845 after six and a half enduring
months of ceaseless brawls. The colonization of Texas first began with Stephen F. Austin, whom is
also recognized as the Father of Texas. Stephen began the uprising for self reliance against the Army
of Mexico, led by Antonio López de Santa Anna, when he proposed opening up Texas to a swamp of
immigrants. This action of his branched off throughout the years into countless battles for the Lonestar
state to become individualistic. The first battle of the Revolution was the Battle of Gonzales, ending
with only two casualties and the victory of the Texas soldiers. The Alamo is one of the most
memorable engagements within this period of time, where the legendary cry, Remember the Alamo!
originated from. The Alamo still stands tall today and is visited by many each year, and represents the
Texan soldier s heroic opposition to injustice versus the government of Mexico. The Battle of San
Jacinto was the shortest and final confrontation of the Texas Revolution. This resulted in a Texan
victory, and an overall win for the Texian soldiers as they wash away Mexico with their statement of
independence. The Texas Revolution was a conflict in the nineteenth century between the people of
Texas and Mexican soldiers. This revolution led the the independence of the Lone Star state, and
opened floodgates to numerous significant battles along the way. This rebellion included various

Child Support Hearing
This week I had the pleasure of sitting in on five hearings. On Monday Magistrate Akel allowed me to
observe a child support hearing where both parties were living in Iowa. The initial order was given
while the couple lived in Florida. When the father moved to Iowa he was ordered to pay $509.00
dollars a month in child support. The mother sent the child to Iowa to visit his father for a week but
the child never came back to Florida. While the child was in the father s custody he continued to pay
child support to the mother. During the hearing, the father wanted to ensure that his ex wife placed the
money that she owed him into a depository account. The attorney representing the father pointed out
that she was behind in paying him back. The attorney as well as the father believed that the she was
using the money to support her other children. The mother claimed that all of the money that she owed
her ex husband was already in the depository. Magistrate Akel made sure that the mother was aware
that if the money was not there she would be held in contempt of court.
The next hearing involved timesharing. The mother and father could not agree on a schedule that was

Analyzing Truman Capote s In Cold Blood
Knowledge
Title
Truman Capote chose the title In Cold Blood possibly because Dick and Perry murdered four innocent
members of a family. The term of cold blood is defined as without feeling or with cruel intent and that
is evident in the novel. Dick and Perry killed these member of family with pretty much no reason in
doing so and the deaths were brutal. This is an obvious reason for the title name but maybe there is a
hidden meaning in the title. The little town of Holcomb was a very peaceful place where everyone had
their doors unlocked and they all trusted one another. Dick and Perry took the towns feeling of
security and comfort once they committed this act.

Taking An Auto Loan For A Bad Credit
Do you believe that because of your bad credit, you cannot qualify for a bad credit car loan? Then
think again. Many lenders will not lend to persons with bad credit which is normally a score of 620 or
less. There are however, a number of companies that will provide you with the auto loan facility that
you can afford. There are also those that will seek to provide you with the car loan that you want.
There is a big difference between the two. The former will provide that which you can safely afford to
purchase a car and is based on the information you you supply such as your credit score, your monthly
income and expenses. The latter will seek to supply you with the money you want, even if it will
further harm your credit rating. Taking an auto loan that you can afford may not get you the car of
your dreams, but it can get you a car and have you moving about, while helping you to build your
credit.
Now, as eluded to earlier, there are lots of online sites that will offer to provide you with the loan you
want and guess what.... They will require that you supply them with sensitive information such as
your Social Security Number (SSN) among other information. Now to avoid falling victim to the
identity theft vultures out there, I strongly suggest that you research the credibility of any site before
you give out your information. Apart from the Google / fraud test, you can utilize the services of sites

Queen Victoria reigned England for sixty three years, thus making her the longest reigning monarch to

Victoria s uncle, William IV, passed away, Victoria became queen at the young age of 18. Queen
Victoria s reign is considered as epic. Similar to many epic heroes, Victoria the Queen influenced
culture. The VIctorian Era was named for her during her reign on England. During her reign, England

children were diagnosed with this condition. About nine years after Prince Albert and Queen Victoria s
eighth child was born, Albert passed away from Crohn s disease. For forty years, from her husband s
death to her own, she raised eight children on her own and she reigned over a country. Fame and
fortune were very popular during Queen Victoria s reign, just like these factors were popular in
characteristics of epic stories. Being queen, Victoria had to be a role model for the civilians in
England. When she fell in love with a Scotsman, John Brown, she had to hide her love. If Queen
Victoria had made this relationship public, her popularity would rise, but in a negative way. When
Odysseus yelled out his name, parental ancestry, and homeland, he took a risk. Fame determines a lot

The customer s interest within Tesco would be that they would want to buy a range of products that
are of a high quality or receive or a good service from Tesco. If the customers do not receive the
products/services they have paid for they would be unhappy with Tesco, which could mean that they

would get a negative reputation from this and can further reduce the amount of customers that go

Shakespeare Poetry Analysis
Poets and authors alike evoke emotion and pictures from one single word. The imagery and thoughts
put into the readers heads by these different writers are the base of one s creativity and imagination
while reading the author s work of art. William Shakespeare is one of the most well known poets of all
time that is able to elicit these emotions from the reader to allow the reader to fully understand what
Shakespeare is trying to accomplish with his poems. Shakespeare keeps his audience entertained with
a whopping 154 sonnets, each having a different meaning and imagery associated with it. Sonnet 18,
[Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer s Day] , and Sonnet 55, [Not Marble, nor the Gilded Monuments]
, are both one of Shakespeare s most famous works. Shakespeare uses these sonnets to explore the
powerful relationship between humanity, art, and time.
Humanity is a common topic in Shakespeare s sonnets. In [Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer s Day]
, humanity is first referred to as a complexion. And often is his gold complexion dimmed is referring
to how a person s beauty is sometimes not shown ( Sonnet 18 6). According to Ray, a writer for the
Explicator, complexion should be interpreted to mean the total disposition of the person... both
external and internal features (Ray). Shakespeare proves this point, for the word complexion is used to
portray that although the person s beauty is not shown, it is still immortal. Another piece of humanity
in the poem is immortality.

Compound Bow History
Archery has been around for the majority of documented human history and has gradually changed
over the centuries. However, in the recent years a new type of bow has been created, the compound
bow. The introduction of the compound bow revolutionized the archery system, allowing for faster
and stronger shooting as well as increased range, all allowing for hunters to better hit their targets.
Before the compound bow, there were wooden bows and the most common one used for hunting was
the Longbow. These bows were about 72 inches in length and could be made out of various types of
wood to give it different properties. It could usually be pulled back around 30 inches and it had a
poundage of 150, which means it is very difficult to shoot. In the article Medieval versus Modern ...

This was a problem because archers had to be able to aim and release their arrows quickly which
meant it was hard to get good accuracy and consistency while shooting unless there was repeated

compound bow has a leveling system that uses cables and pulleys to bend the limbs, these pulleys and
cables were [called cams] placed on both sides of the bow, (Facts About). This system allows for more
energy to be stored in the limbs, this also allows for the arrow to be shot faster than with other types of
bows. The cams on the bow also allow for less recoil and vibrations in the bow limbs which increases
the accuracy of the archer. Compound bows are smaller and lighter than

into high school. High school can be a very long path, with great memories, and great experiences.
But not everyone goes through the same thing everyone expects too. A big issue that is according to
now in new generations of young teens in high school is teens dropping out of school. Many teens
take the decisions of not continuing in going on with high school because they are around bad

The White City By Erik Larson
Erik Larson s literary nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City surrounds the events of the 1893
Columbian Exposition World s Fair in Chicago. Larson does a magnificent job intertwining the lives
of two men who were changed by the events of the fair. Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect
behind the legendary 1893 World s Fair and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer who used the
fair to lure his victims to their death. The purpose of this review is not only to summarize Larson s
fascinating and satisfying work which vividly portrays one of the last grand gasps of the nineteenth
century, but to also evaluate his work as a writer while providing a critical analysis of his book.
As stated The Devil in the White City is a novel based on true events which I personally found
intriguing since the way Larson conveys his writing makes it seem almost fictional. Larson s novel
focuses on two main characters Daniel H. Burnham and Dr. H. H. Holmes born Herman Webster
Mudgett. Larson first introduces Burnham with the sentence He was sixty five years old and had
become a large man. His hair had turned gray, his mustache nearly white, but his eyes were as blue as

Burnham was the architect who got contracted to build the 1893 Chicago World s Fair with John Root.

descriptions have in common includes that all represent the temptation and passion that Mattie
represents for Ethan. Mattie description includes having flushed red (Wharton 45), embarrassment
may be the first assumption because woman of Wharton s era were often presented as being demure,
however, I find that when Mattie flushes red, a juxtaposition is created between her and Ethan s wife,

The Legal Field At Point Park University
Yogi Berra believed that, Baseball is 90 percent mental and the other half is physical. From my tenure
as a college softball pitcher at Point Park University, I learned how imperative being mentally sound is
to the game of softball. The legal field is a very demanding field. I know my experiences gained on
the diamond will allow me to flourish in a field dependent upon mental toughness. Foremost, being a
pitcher made me realize how important it is to have a short term memory. When I was on the mound, I
knew that the result of the previous batter had no bearing on what the next batter would do. For
example, when I gave up a big hit, before the next batter came to the plate, I had to forget about what
just happened. In softball, it is important to not dwell on the negatives, but learn from them. Because
of pitching, I know yesterday s failures can turn into tomorrow s successes. I plan to have the same
attitude in the legal field when obstacles come my way. In addition, pitching has taught me that there
are some things in life that I will never be able to control. Success on the mound is dependent on a
variety of factors. Umpires, field conditions, the weather, and plays my team made all had an impact
on the on the outcome of a game. When it was raining, I understood that I had no control over the
weather. However, I could make small adjustments to my routine to preform better in unfavorable
conditions. In a similar manner, when an umpire made a call I did not agree

and ultimately resulted in the need for the AKA.
The obstruction in Room 40 s leg was discovered using a diagnostic arteriogram. An arteriogram is an
image of the interior of blood vessels, such as arteries, by the use of electromagnetic waves. During
this procedure, a dye is injected into the artery revealing any bulges, weakness, lesions or occlusions
of the blood vessel. The ability to see any evidence of a a plaque formation or obstruction within a
vessel makes an arteriogram an effective method for detecting atherosclerosis (Johns Hopkins
Medicine, 2015).
After the obstruction was detected with the arteriogram, the patient underwent percutaneous catheter
directed thrombolytic therapy with alteplase in order to regain blood flow and nutrients to the right
foot and lower leg. This choice of therapy is chosen with the goal to quickly dissolve the arterial
obstruction (National Institute of Health, 2014b). Although the TPA in alteplase will not restore the

Quality Assurance Meeting At Present
Quality Assurance Meeting
At present, the convening of this group is to assess a particular never event that occurred in Huntsville
Hospital last month. The National Quality Forum literally defines a never event as a preventable
adverse event occurring in a health care setting that should never happen; like, wrong site surgery,
patient falls, and medication errors as examples (Gitlow et al., 2013). Discussion, explanations and
resolutions are the intended outcome of today s meeting.
Never Event
On June 3, 2015, the staff in the cardiovascular surgical suite (CVOR) allowed a patient to fall to the
floor when transferring the patient from the operating table to the patient bed, following coronary
artery bypass surgery. Regrettably, the patient endured facial fractures, however, fortunately there was
no harm to the surgical procedure on the coronary arteries, head, lungs, drains, chest tubes or
anywhere else. Present in the surgical suite for the period of the incident included two certified nurse
anesthetists, two scrub technicians, one registered nurse, and one physician s assistant. Following the
closure of the surgical site, the appropriate dressings were applied, the cardiothoracic surgeon left the
surgical theater, and the patient was transferred to the patient bed when the never event occurred.
Discussion
The opinions of the physicians, staff and management present at today s meeting exist as
uncontrollable patient factors and controllable environmental factors.

A Comparison Of The Short Story The Monkey s Paw, By...
W. W. Jacobs wrote the short story The Monkey s Paw in 1902. A great number of adaptations of the
story have since been created using different forms of media. The two which are being compared here
are the play adaptation The Monkey s Paw dramatized by Mara Rockliff and the 2011 film version
The Monkey s Paw by Ricky Lewis Jr. Both the play and film feature the White family receiving a
monkey s paw by which three wishes may be granted. The paw had a spell put on it by a holy man
who wanted to show that fate rules people s lives and that if people try to interfere, they will be sorry.
The main differences between the play and the film are that film gives more background information
about how and why the paw was obtained, uses more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This setting does not convey the same feeling danger or foreshadowing of trouble to come. The viewer
may question in the play version why Morris would proceed with making wishes upon the paw after
stating that the first owner had wished for death. The information given through the film of Morris
seeking out the fakir in order to change his bad fortunes and being the person who requested a spell be
placed to grant wishes plants the seed for the viewer that Morris may have already been in a desperate
situation and therefore the viewer can more easily accept that he would wish upon it. As the plot in
both adaptations develop, Morris visit to the White s home is portrayed differently. The use of alcohol
in the film prior to Morris displaying the paw to the family could be interpreted as an action taken
only after his wits have been inhibited. The film uses flash backs to dramatize the power of the paw
when it is mentioned during the conversation with the White family. The potential harm that can be
caused by the paw is better expressed in the Lewis film version by Morris when he is asked why he
kept it he stated that, he kept it to guard it . He never allows any of the family to handle the paw and it
is not until Mr. White takes it away from him as he is attempting to throw it in the fire. At the end of
the evening when Morris was leaving he tries to get Mr.

During the Renaissance, the arts gained an intellectual status that was previously unheard of thanks to the application of the vanishing point. Renaissance artists spent their time experimenting ways to create the illusion of space on a two dimensional surface; Fillipo Brunelleshi was among the first to devise an effective system of doing so (Babick, 2010). Contrary to red, blue is a cool colour used to convey feelings of calmness, sadness, and melancholy. It is also associated with royalty due to its use in classical mythology to represent gods and heaven. More recently blue has become associated with gender neutrality, often being a featured colour in fashion labels. In the above painting, blue is used to colour the sky, the ocean and the clothing being worn. The sky and ocean are blue in nature which explains the colour choice but the two natural phenomenon s are expansive and open, giving blue another connotation of openness. Blue clothing in media is used to represent superheroes or the good guys which suggests that those in the painting clothed in blue are this pieces protagonists. This began around the tenth century. Pope John Paul II changed the process in 1983. Here is the process. The first requirement is that the person must be dead for at least five years. They must be a very holy person and a servant of God. Then the person s local church members must start a petition to request that this person should become a saint. The Bishop will look into this person s life and decide whether or not to pass this person on to the next step to the Pope. If he does a couple of theologians will look more deeply into this person s life and evaluate the person. People who are martyrs will automatically become a saint because they should amazing faith and holiness. Many of the first saints were martyrs because they were persecuting Christians in the time of Jesus and a long time after the ascension. (Eccl 1:9). It is especially true in America. Racial and ethnic divisions appear to be just as wide as they were during era of slavery, Reconstruction, and Jim Crow. Within the past century, Christianity in America, particularly Evangelical Christianity has endeavored to address social issues like racism but unfortunately has been relatively unsuccessful. Evangelicalism, particularly white evangelicalism must expand their understanding of cultural engagement to include more than abortion and homosexuality. To be relevant, and maintain any semblance of integrity, evangelicalism must apply different strategies regarding racism, classism, justice, and equality. Jean Jacques Rousseau Research Paper Jean Jacques Rousseau and Karl Marx were both well renowned philosophers who have contributed vastly to society through their works, their philosophical thinking, and their revolutionary like mind set. However, compared to many other theorists we covered in class, Rousseau and Marx are very critical towards the contemporary society. The contemporary society or one could say the modern society, in existence to the time being and the social features it connects thorough, contains human interconnection, evolution of ways of life, and anthropological and ecological transformation. Both Rousseau and Marx view society as representative of a form of inauthenticity or alienation. However, in order to understand why they view society in this light ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Rousseau believed that man was born good, but it is society that corrupts him. In a state of nature, there is no war, people are isolated, desires are minimal, and people lived for themselves. It is when people are hurled into society where the corruption begins. For Rousseau, he saw that society s negative influence of men centers on the transformation of self love, which we wish to preserve, that when combined with reason creates a fear that allows men to take pleasure in the pain and weakness of others. Evil, greed, and selfishness emerges as human society begans to develop. And as society grows stronger, these ailments grow stronger with. In Discourse on the Arts and Sciences, Rousseau states that the arts and sciences had not been beneficial to man kind because they are not human needs, but rather the result of pride and vanity. And these technological opportunities lead to further corruption and in a way makes the government more powerful at the expense of freedom. Also, due to advances in science and technology the people who had a talent in this field grew with and those who did not have that talent were left behind, thus causing inequality. And with all of this came dependency. Those who have talent to create them were dependent by those who bought and sold those products. • 10. The Social Of A Social Institution Connect structure to your social issue/topic: 1.) What social institutions are connected to your social issue/topic? My topic is gender roles in society the social institutions which influence to the stigmatization of gender are: Family: Throughout history women and men have been stigmatized into categories based on their biological sex. Parents from day one address their child based on their physical characteristics of either a male or female. Family has a great influence because they teach their children at a young age how to properly act, if the child choses to behave not accordance with their gender role they are quickly corrected because acting out of your gender role is wrong. Religion: this social institution can play a role in influencing gender norms because some religions believe that there are specific duties and roles for each gender. For example in an Islamic religion it is believed that women are to fulfill their duties as a wife and mother while the father is to be able to protect and financially support the family. In Christianity women are seen as unfit to be in the high roles of religion like being a priest. Culture: In all cultures women have a set role in which they are to follow within their society. • 11. Masculinity as Homophobia by Michael S. Kimmel As with a great majority of men in the world today, it is easier for me to give hugs than to accept them. This is not my own doing, but rather centuries of men before myself being taught that the outward expression of emotion, in any facet, was a direct form of weakness. This has led to adverse affects in regards to a new generation of man that I find myself apart of now. This belief has forged a lack of sentiment within men, all in the name of being a man. Do not take it the wrong way, as if to say a lack of compassion is a bad thing, they teach young men. It is actually the contrary in a growing market economy. Kimmel suggest that society begins to use politics of inclusion or that the definition of manhood be widened to help end the gender struggle. For good or for worse, young boys have continuously been shaped in history to suppress any femininity. Yes, centuries ago this was a very helpful trait seeing how wars were being waged and exploration was at its height, but like anything times have changed. Increases in feminist and LGBTQ movements have given men the ability to fully embrace who they really are, yet times have not caught up to this fact. Men continue to put on a façade for one another that inhibit them. Behind closed doors, men are fully able to embrace their true selves, but the moment they are confronted with other males, the battle of machismo begins: If I catch any one man, and he s alone, I get along fine with him. The interconnectedness of the international economy and its far reaching financial crises has convinced many to start rethinking the international finance system once more. In short, there is a need for an LOLR (international lender of last resort) due to the fact that international capital flows are not only immensely volatile but also influential in destabilizing other countries. Many argue that an LOLR can help mitigate the effects of instability and help countries facing a crisis to restabilize. However, central banks in emerging market countries are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, no bank runs occurred and a panic was avoided. The advantage to having a LOLR in a developed country is that it can be a lender of last resort not only to banks but also the the entire system. This is exemplified in 1987 when the stock market crashed but the Federal Reserve was able to offer liquidity to those that would make loans to the securities industry. The end result was a negligible impact on the economy and a small amount of liquidity needed to be provided by Fed needed to remedy the situation. An LOLR becomes problematic in emerging markets in developing countries for a number of reasons. First, many emerging market countries have most of their debt denominated in foreign currency. Second, since their history of high and variable inflation have resulted in debt contracts, expansionary monetary would cause expected inflation to rise drastically and domestic currency to depreciate sharply. As a result, a LOLR has a much lower success rate than a developed country s. From a larger perspective, the depreciation of the domestic currency leads to a deterioration in firms and banks balance sheets because much of their debt is denominated in foreign currency. This raises the burden of indebtedness and lowers banks and firms net worth. Third, the sharp rise of expected inflation would cause interest rates to rise as well due to the need to protect lenders from the loss of purchasing power when they lend. ... • 19. Masculinity In The Sun Also Rises By Ernest Hemingway Ernest Hemingway s classic historical fiction novel The Sun Also Rises comprises an eventful timeline: bullfighting, fishing trips, male friendship, disguised alcoholism, and the differences between femininity and masculinity and how they overlap. . His 1926 novel about members of an expatriate friend group and one pivotal fiesta in Spain portrays a story rife with unrequited love, symbolism, and metaphors for the Lost Generation in Europe. However, the way Hemingway focuses on masculinity and femininity interplaying with each other and contrasts the effects of the two on all characters and story stands out to the audience. Most of the feminine aura in the novel doesn t even come from women. In general, Hemingway does not involve women much in his novels. Notably, the first woman, Frances, introduced in the book is immediately made into an unsympathetic hag like devil wife who berates and verbally abuses Robert Cohn, her unwilling husband. After a certain amount of time, her character is written out of the novel as she vaguely le[aves] for England (Hemingway 77). Lady Brett Ashley, the main woman of the novel, does not exude femininity either, with her boyish haircut and mannerisms. Even though she is married to a Lord, literally making her a Lady, she bends the early 20th centuries rules for the genders and is in fact only mentioned by her title about a dozen times in the novel; the occasional reminder to the audience that despite her erratic and impulsive behavior, she ... Their reality is that they are married to other people. The love that they share for one another represents the struggle that one may face wanting to break away from reality. Dmitri was a man who had been unfaithful to his wife quite often. Her imperfections seemed to be his only reasoning for this. Dmitri was most likely only in Yalta to look for a new woman to have an affair with. Considering this, being with Anna didn t bother him. He was introduced in the story as a rather selfish man who seemed to just have his way with Anna. He referred to women as an inferior race , due to his past experience. Anna, on the other hand, was new to the idea of being unfaithful to her husband. This scared her so even though she knew that she loved Dmitri, she convinced herself that it was not real love that they shared. Throughout the story, both Anna and Dmitri changed the way they felt about their lives. Dmitri seemed to have had a very superficial relationship with his wife, and this made him appreciate his relationship with Anna even more. Once he spots her, the scenery in the story begins to shape. It is full of beautiful colors and light. This again suggests Nora s selflessness for taking the taunting and teasing even though she was trying to pay back the loan she borrowed to save Trovald, who mocks her. The underlying beneficial reason is Nora s care for her family and her fear of her husband finding out. Lastly, through this pain and fear the shift in characterization starts to occur. Secondly, towards the end of the play, Nora s characterization shifts to self serving because it is advantageous to her situation. The shift in her character to selfishness is seen when she admits, The trip was to save my husband s life (389). This shows her egocentric act against the law by committing forgery in order to acquire money to save her husband. She commits this selfish act towards her own advantage for her family. Although the egocentric act is an illegal crime, she justifies it with her moral necessity. Lastly, Nora s transition to a selfish character can be seen with the use of a prop and the movement with the prop when she hits [Dr. Rank] lightly on the ear with the stockings (395). In a monarchy, the crown is passed down to the closest living relative in a family. When Victoria s uncle, William IV, passed away, Victoria became queen at the young age of 18. Queen Victoria s reign is considered as epic. Similar to many epic heroes, Victoria the Queen influenced culture. The VIctorian Era was named for her during her reign on England. During her reign, England went through many advancements; technology, sciences, bridges, underground sewers, railways for buildings, and literary augmentations. Queen Victoria was sheltered from many works of literature for they referenced wars she was not to know about. One literature work she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... During her marriage to Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg, who also happened to be her cousin, she gave birth to eight children. About nine years after Prince Albert and Queen Victoria s eighth child was born, Albert passed away from Crohn s disease. For forty years, from her husband s death to her own, she raised eight children on her own and she reigned over a country. Fame and fortune were very popular during Queen Victoria s reign, just like these factors were popular in characteristics of epic stories. Being queen, Victoria had to be a role model for the civilians in England. When she fell in love with a Scotsman, John Brown, she had to hide her love. If Queen Victoria had made this relationship public, her popularity would rise, but in a negative way. When Odysseus yelled out his name, parental ancestry, and homeland, he took a risk. • 37. Shakespeare Poetry Analysis Poets and authors alike evoke emotion and pictures from one single word. The imagery and thoughts put into the readers heads by these different writers are the base of one s creativity and imagination while reading the author s work of art. William Shakespeare is one of the most well known poets of all time that is able to elicit these emotions from the reader to allow the reader to fully understand what Shakespeare is trying to accomplish with his poems. Shakespeare keeps his audience entertained with a whopping 154 sonnets, each having a different meaning and imagery associated with it. Sonnet 18, [Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer s Day] , and Sonnet 55, [Not Marble, nor the Gilded Monuments] , are both one of Shakespeare s most famous works. Shakespeare uses these sonnets to explore the powerful relationship between humanity, art, and time. Humanity is a common topic in Shakespeare s sonnets. In [Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer s Day] , humanity is first referred to as a complexion. And often is his gold complexion dimmed is referring to how a person s beauty is sometimes not shown ( Sonnet 18 6). According to Ray, a writer for the Explicator, complexion should be interpreted to mean the total disposition of the person... both external and internal features (Ray). Shakespeare proves this point, for the word complexion is used to portray that although the person s beauty is not shown, it is still immortal. However, in the recent years a new type of bow has been created, the compound bow. The introduction of the compound bow revolutionized the archery system, allowing for faster and stronger shooting as well as increased range, all allowing for hunters to better hit their targets. Before the compound bow, there were wooden bows and the most common one used for hunting was the Longbow. These bows were about 72 inches in length and could be made out of various types of wood to give it different properties. It could usually be pulled back around 30 inches and it had a poundage of 150, which means it is very difficult to shoot. In the article Medieval versus Modern ... This system allows for more energy to be stored in the limbs, this also allows for the arrow to be shot faster than with other types of bows. The cams on the bow also allow for less recoil and vibrations in the bow limbs which increases the accuracy of the archer. Compound bows are smaller and lighter than ... • 40. The White City By Erik Larson Erik Larson s literary nonfiction novel The Devil in the White City surrounds the events of the 1893 Columbian Exposition World s Fair in Chicago. Larson does a magnificent job intertwining the lives of two men who were changed by the events of the fair. Daniel H. Burnham, the brilliant architect behind the legendary 1893 World s Fair and Dr. H. H. Holmes, the cunning serial killer who used the fair to lure his victims to their death. The purpose of this review is not only to summarize Larson s fascinating and satisfying work which vividly portrays one of the last grand gasps of the nineteenth century, but to also evaluate his work as a writer while providing a critical analysis of his book. As stated The Devil in the White City is a novel based on true events which I personally found intriguing since the way Larson conveys his writing makes it seem almost fictional. Larson s novel focuses on two main characters Daniel H. Burnham and Dr. H. H. Holmes born Herman Webster Mudgett. Larson first introduces Burnham with the sentence He was sixty five years old and had become a large man. His hair had turned gray, his mustache nearly white, but his eyes were as blue as ever, bluer at this instant by proximity to the sea (p.3). While reading the book we discover that Burnham was the architect who got contracted to build the 1893 Chicago World s Fair with John Root. Unfortunately, we also discover that John Root dies before the fair even begins construction, leaving all of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Mattie description includes having flushed red (Wharton 45), embarrassment may be the first assumption because woman of Wharton s era were often presented as being demure, however, I find that when Mattie flushes red, a juxtaposition is created between her and Ethan s wife, Zeena, who is often presented as having a sallow pallor and having now life to her whatsoever. Mattie symbolizes life and health that Ethan desires. Gold, the literary norm for describing the sun, reflects happiness and wealth instead Wharton uses the color red sunrise burned red in the pure sky (Wharton 30), reddening in the afternoon sun (Wharton 38), red sun (Wharton 74), and the sun s red and of the glitter on the snow (Wharton 31). • 42. The Legal Field At Point Park University Yogi Berra believed that, Baseball is 90 percent mental and the other half is physical. From my tenure as a college softball pitcher at Point Park University, I learned how imperative being mentally sound is to the game of softball. The legal field is a very demanding field. I know my experiences gained on the diamond will allow me to flourish in a field dependent upon mental toughness. Foremost, being a pitcher made me realize how important it is to have a short term memory. When I was on the mound, I knew that the result of the previous batter had no bearing on what the next batter would do. For example, when I gave up a big hit, before the next batter came to the plate, I had to forget about what just happened. In softball, it is important to not dwell on the negatives, but learn from them. Because of pitching, I know yesterday s failures can turn into tomorrow s successes. I plan to have the same attitude in the legal field when obstacles come my way. In addition, pitching has taught me that there are some things in life that I will never be able to control. Success on the mound is dependent on a variety of factors. Umpires, field conditions, the weather, and plays my team made all had an impact on the on the outcome of a game. When it was raining, I understood that I had no control over the weather. However, I could make small adjustments to my routine to preform better in unfavorable conditions. In a similar manner, when an umpire made a call I did not agree ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Growth Of Room 40 s Atherosclerosis The growth of Room 40 s atherosclerosis progressed until an acute arterial occlusion was formed, which stopped blood flow to the tissue. The atherosclerosis consisted of complicated lesions that led to a decrease in blood flow and the presence of a thrombus, ultimately resulting in thea lack of blood flow to the right foot and lower leg. Thrombi often appear after a rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque (Coneliue, 2014). This lack of blood flow led to necrosis of the tissues in the right foot and lower leg and ultimately resulted in the need for the AKA. The obstruction in Room 40 s leg was discovered using a diagnostic arteriogram. An arteriogram is an image of the interior of blood vessels, such as arteries, by the use of electromagnetic waves. During this procedure, a dye is injected into the artery revealing any bulges, weakness, lesions or occlusions of the blood vessel. The ability to see any evidence of a a plaque formation or obstruction within a vessel makes an arteriogram an effective method for detecting atherosclerosis (Johns Hopkins Medicine, 2015). After the obstruction was detected with the arteriogram, the patient underwent percutaneous catheter directed thrombolytic therapy with alteplase in order to regain blood flow and nutrients to the right foot and lower leg. This choice of therapy is chosen with the goal to quickly dissolve the arterial obstruction (National Institute of Health, 2014b). Although the TPA in alteplase will not restore the damaged or ... Never Event On June 3, 2015, the staff in the cardiovascular surgical suite (CVOR) allowed a patient to fall to the floor when transferring the patient from the operating table to the patient bed, following coronary artery bypass surgery. A great number of adaptations of the story have since been created using different forms of media. The two which are being compared here are the play adaptation The Monkey s Paw dramatized by Mara Rockliff and the 2011 film version The Monkey s Paw by Ricky Lewis Jr. Both the play and film feature the White family receiving a monkey s paw by which three wishes may be granted. The paw had a spell put on it by a holy man who wanted to show that fate rules people s lives and that if people try to interfere, they will be sorry. This setting does not convey the same feeling danger or foreshadowing of trouble to come. The viewer may question in the play version why Morris would proceed with making wishes upon the paw after stating that the first owner had wished for death. The information given through the film of Morris seeking out the fakir in order to change his bad fortunes and being the person who requested a spell be placed to grant wishes plants the seed for the viewer that Morris may have already been in a desperate situation and therefore the viewer can more easily accept that he would wish upon it. As the plot in both adaptations develop, Morris visit to the White s home is portrayed differently. The use of alcohol in the film prior to Morris displaying the paw to the family could be interpreted as an action taken only after his wits have been inhibited. The film uses flash backs to dramatize the power of the paw when it is mentioned during the conversation with the White family. The potential harm that can be caused by the paw is better expressed in the Lewis film version by Morris when he is asked why he kept it he stated that, he kept it to guard it .
