The Hollow Men Stylistics
1. Introduction This paper deals with a stylistic analysis of Eliot s poem The Hollow Men . What are
the stylistic featuresexploited by Eliot to make his poem more expressive is the main problem that this
study tries to investigate. It aims to explore ways in which language use has been integrated in the
selected poems. It is also aimed at analyzing some of the distinctive features that give the selected
poem their identity. To fulfill the aim of the study, it hypothesizes that Eliot exploits certain linguistic
deviations as an essential way to make his poem more expressive. So as to examine the proposed
hypothesis, certain representative examples have been chosen from the poem for the sake of analysis.
Some stylistic features are investigated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We normally study style because we want to explain something, and in general, literary stylistics has
the goal of explaining the relation between language and artistic function (Leech and Short, 1981:
13).Short and Candlin (1989: 183) view stylistics as a linguistic approach to the study of the literary
texts. It thus embodies one essential part of the general course; that of combining language and literary
study. Stylistics, the study of the devices in languages such as rhetorical figures and syntactical
patterns that are considered to produce expressive or literary style. Haynes (1989: 3) refers to style as
the manner of expression which is different in various contexts. It is defined depending on one s field
of study.Style as deviation from the norm, Language is a behavior governed by rules and norms. When
something is done in a quite different way from how it is usually done, then that is said to be a
deviation from the norm. This is achieved by reconstruction from the structural resource of language
to extend the frontiers of current usages. This concept is most common at both the lexical and the
syntactic level and used mostly for effective

The Power Of Mass Media

The Power of Mass Media in Todays World: The Perceptions and Realities Behind the Curtains
It s a Thursday night and Jessie is sitting down, munching on some chips and dip, and watching the
weekly episode of Scandal with her friend Mary in the dim light of their living room. A scene comes
on the television with two gay men intimately approaching each other, about to have sex. For a
minute, the girls are tensely sitting in silence, not speaking, but awkwardly staring at the television. As
the scene turns to a commercial, the girls begin to loosen up and start giggling. Blushing, Jessie
interrupts the awkwardness, Well you don t really see that too much! Scandal is just one of the recent
shows featuring gay characters and themes. Slowly, television and motion picture movie films are
striving to be inclusive. Gay characters on prime time shows and in top rated, popular films are trying
to generally become the norm rather than just the exception, whether as regular characters, or
occasional ones. As the world is becoming interconnected and as globalization is at its full peek,
people are increasingly being influenced by mass media and popular culture. While society is
changing through each decade, so has the media s portrayal of the LGBT gay, lesbian, bisexual,
transgender, and queer community. But, do these depictions truly reflect lesbian, gay, bisexual,
transgender, and queer reality? And are these

Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation
Hypothetical Misinterpretation
Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the relationship
between artworks and exploratory interpretations, has gone under criticism for allowing
misinterpretations to be deemed as valid could mean options. However, one finds when reading Two
Notions of Interpretation and Intention and Interpretation in Literature that these criticisms are
effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents. Firstly, although the exploratory mode
of inquiry can have multiple, if not infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers.
These could not mean interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be
judged on a scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple correct
interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive.
To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and
use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their
interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean
modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually
have mutual implications. To examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean
and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a
determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean
inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation
available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean interpretations
create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean
interpretation beyond scientific knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations.
Although we will see how authorial

Three Year Trend
It is evidently by the graph that the amount of sassy comments significantly decreased over the three
week programme. The programme had an average of 10.7 sassy remarks per day compared to the
baseline data of 15.5, this shows an average decrease of 4.8 sassy comments. Consequently, the
programme data greatly fluctuates over the three weeks with the maximum number of sassy comment
made during the three week period was fifteen and the minimum was six. Unmistakeably, there are
several trends, both of which are also seen in the baseline data. Firstly, the general trend of sassy
comments decreases towards the end of the week and during the weekend (Friday to Sunday) similar
to that of the baseline data. In addition, my sassy comments largely peak ... Show more content on

Comparing the two data s, the baseline data had a positive correlation of 0.4048 whereas the
programme data had a negative correlation of 0.1513. This signifies that for the baseline data for my
sassy comments had a general increase in trend, in contrast to the programme data were it had a
negative trend. Although, the 0.1513 is a relatively weak decrease compared to a reasonably moderate
increase of 0.4048, it nevertheless demonstrates a small effectiveness of the programme. As seen on
the graph, the blue line (baseline data) is largely above the yellow line (programme date) in an upward
trend whereas the yellow line gradually declines. It is highly difficult to factor out the antecedents that
influence my behaviour; therefore understanding those factors is the second best option. I have noted
that my mood affects my amount of sassiness each day and that midweek my mood significantly
decreases and then increases in late week. Although, it impacts my data greatly it is too difficult to
change these controlling factors. A solution to the problem would be to control the amount of people I
see, thus, controlling my sassiness. Generally, I only express sassy comments as a response to a
cheeky or somewhat vacuous question/comment made by an acquaintance. Henceforth, restricting the
amount of people I see midweek when my sassiness peaks due to antecedents, such as mood, would to

The United States Post Civil War
The United States post Civil War era from 1875 to 1900 experienced massive economic and industrial
growth, especially in the North. The rise of new machines, industries (railroad, oil, steel), and
buildings contributed to a major upsurge in the prosperity of the American nation. In 1860, no
American city had a population over one million; by 1890, three cities had passed the million mark.
New York City became the second largest city in the world after London in 1900. The substantial
growth of the U.S economically can be contributed to a group of wealthy capitalists that ran
businesses/industries and stimulated economic growth. However, historians have argued over whether
these capitalists were robber barons that were corrupt and took advantage of the American people or
captains of industry that helped the U.S grow at unparalleled speeds. Wealthy capitalists such as
Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were indeed captains of industry who enlarged American
industry and businesses, used their wealth to better their communities, and elevated the United States
to new heights as one of the leading industrial powers of the entire world. The major wealthy
capitalists of the time Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J. Pierpont Morgan, and Cornelius
Vanderbilt all played a tremendous role in developing American industry and ultimately the economy
as a whole. Through their business ventures, they vastly increased the industrial output of America.

New plant based burger made to smell, taste, look, and feel like beef
Chef Pat Brown is on a mission to make every piece of meat consumed in the world to be made
entirely of plants and he thinks he s finally onto something with the Impossible Burger.
The Impossible Burger is a complicated mix of wheat and potato protein, vitamins and amino acids,
coconut oil, soy protein, xanthan gum, and the magic ingredient heme.
It s often the texture, smell, and flavor of meat that carnivores crave and where most mass produced
vegetarian or vegan options fall flat. Chef Brown s recipe for the Impossible Burger has truly changed
the game when it comes to meat substitutes and he s challenging us all to spot the difference.

Food of the future
Right now, the use of animals as a food production technology occupies about half of every square

Last, and most important, is that studies have not shown that more hours spent on homework leads to
more knowledge. Time spent on homework does not correlate to better test scores. Some students can
spend twice as much time as others and still not do as well. Grades do not necessarily improve with
more hours of homework. In conclusion, homework for high school students is not necessary. Time is
better spent getting exercise, working off stress and interacting with others.
Choose one of the following topics to address in your paper. Be sure to use specific reasons/examples
to support your point. Colorize your rough draft.
1. Many people feel Americans are too concerned with material goods. Think about your opinion on
this issue. Do you feel Americans are too materialistic? Support your opinion.
2. There is much discussion as to whether some video games are responsible for aggressive behavior.
Many adults want violent video games banned. Write a persuasive paper stating whether you believe
that violent video games are responsible for aggressive behavior.

What Is The Theme Of Salaam Brick Lane
I have studied a novel excerpt called Salam Brick Lane by Tarquin Hall (1969). The excerpt is mainly
about a young man called Tarquin Hall, who wanted to return to his native London. He used to live in
south west London, but when he moved in to Salaam Brick Lane were things not as he remembered.
The street was a noisy filthy street where prostitutes and drug dealer was visible at the pavements. The
next line is from the text and is about the taxi driver warning Hall about the immigrants on the street.

Today the social conditions are much better between immigrants and natives. Most Britons think that
multiculturalism has made important contributes to the society, and brought valuable new impulses to
the country. Also in This is England gave me the impression that many teenagers allowed themselves
to drink too much alcohol, do drugs and convict crimes. After reading the text how bad are British
youth I found out that the situation today has changed. Teenage drug use has actually dropped a

disruptive or rude in public than previous generations. (How bad are british youth?,

Comparison Of Scrubs, Friends, And Love
The TV sitcoms of Scrubs, Friends, and Love all evolve around single young adults. By comparing the
three, one can come to understand how love is shown through TV in the United States. Throughout the
episodes, it becomes apparent on why the couples are together. In Scrubs, it is easy to see that Carla
and Turk make each other happy. Dr. Perry Cox and Jordan are together because that is where they are
comfortable. In Friends, Monica and Richard are together because it makes them happy. Ross and
Rachel were bound to be together since the beginning. They are extremely happy when they finally
are. The same goes for Mickey and Gus in Love. The way that love is portrayed through these shows
is that people should be with someone who makes them happy. ... Show more content on

In each show, there was some sort of sexual action between the characters. This is very common now
in TV shows and movies, as it makes a good story. In all three episodes, it was implied that at least
one of the couples engaged in some sort of sexual activity. In Friends, Mr. and Mrs. Geller are still
attracted to each other. This helps show that one should always be attracted to the person who they
claim to love. There should also always be romance, as in Turk and Carla s case in Scrubs. They
engage in a sexual act, as does Gus and Mickey in Love. In Scrubs, it is apparent that work comes
first. As Turk and Carla are having issues, Turk still has to go to the hospital when he is paged.
However, throughout the episodes, it is apparent that love is about compromise. In Friends, Ross was
against tattoos, but was fine after Rachel got one. In Love, Mickey wasn t a big fan of magic, but went
to the castle with Gus anyways. Also, in Scrubs, Carla decides that the pressure to be romantic
shouldn t all be on Turk. It is one of the things that is observed throughout not just these shows, but
many shows that are on TV today. It does teach good lessons in some

Nisei Daughter by Monica Sone Essay
Nisei Daughter, by Monica Sone
Even with all the mental anguish and struggle, an elemental instinct bound us to this soil. Here we
were born; here we wanted to live. We had tasted of its freedom and learned of its brave hopes for
democracy. It was too late, much too late for us to turn back. (Sone 124). This statement is key to
understanding much of the novel, Nisei Daughter, written by Monica Sone. From one perspective, this
novel is an autobiographical account of a Japanese American girl and the ways in which she
constructed her own self identity. On the other hand, the novel depicts the distinct differences and
tension that formed between the Issei and Nisei generations. Moreover, it can be seen as an attempt to

Throughout her novel, Monica describes events and experiences, which reveal her character and
personality. However, if perceived solely as an autobiography, the major theme of this novel is
overlooked.
I think Monica Sone focuses on, and clearly shows, the tension that arose in the Japanese American
community because they felt torn between two distinct cultures and amongst themselves. There was
also much confusion in this pre World War II and during WWII era concerning the place of Japanese
Americans in the United States. The Issei, or first generation of immigrants from Japan, were
generally highly organized in their communities. They tended to stay in close connection with
traditional Japanese culture. The Issei spoke their native language, practiced traditional Japanese
customs, and formed church groups, and other social communities amongst themselves. Similarly, the
Nisei, or second generation Japanese American, were also highly organized and formed strong ties
amongst themselves separate from the Issei. The Nisei attended Japanese schools, which enhanced
their use of the Japanese language, but more importantly, created a social network of peers. They
participated in church programs, and sports teams together. One main difference between the Issei and
Nisei was that the Nisei were considered Americans. They were born here and they held complete
citizenship. This was not true for the Issei. Another factor that separated the

Analysis Of Agatha Christie s Murder On The Orient Express
After reading all evidence in Agatha Christie s Murder on the Orient Express, I strongly believe that
Hector MacQueen murdered Samuel Edward Ratchett on the Orient Express for various reasons. All
evidence points to Hector MacQueen where he stabbed his boss twelve different times all over his
body. Hector MacQueen was Ratchett s secretary for over a year where Ratchett offered him a job
while they met in Persia. To start off, MacQueen tells Hercule Poirot in his interrogation, the detective
of the case, that he did not like nor trust his employer at all. The first point of evidence that points to
MacQueen was that MacQueen remotely thinks that Ratchett was murdered once he was told that his
Ratchett was dead, So they got him after all (Christie 49). Right after he said that I think Poirot got
him quickly off guard. The second point of evidence that points to MacQueen as the murderer is the
story of the murder of Daisy Armstrong. In chapter four, the readers learn that Samuel Edward
Ratchett was not his real name. His real name is Cassetti, the lead of the gang that killed Daisy
Armstrong. To flee America to avoid being arrested, Cassetti left the United States and changed his
name to Ratchett. You must be wondering, what does this have to do with MacQueen? The readers
learn in the second interrogation of MacQueen that MacQueen s dad was the district attorney of the
Armstrong case. To go along with MaQueen said, If ever a man deserved what he got, Ratchett or

How Does Katherine Mansfield Use Direct Characterization...
In Miss Brill, Katherine Mansfield uses indirect characterization to demonstrate how loneliness can
distort a person s perception of the world and leave one vulnerable when confronting the truth. The
reader is first introduced to Miss Brill while she is at the Jardins Publiques for her Sunday routine.
While at the park, she reminisces about her fur, [taking] it out of its box that afternoon...and [rubbing]
the life back into the dim little eyes. One might initially perceive Miss Brill as a quirky, yet cheery,
woman. However, by having Miss Brill address the fur as Dear little thing and emphasizing her
recurring need to touch and stroke it, Mansfield reveals a deeper, more genuine layer to Miss Brill s
character. By observing Miss Brill s character indirectly, the reader notices the more obscure details,
such as the absence of an intimate relation in Miss Brill s life, and concludes that she is incredibly
lonesome. Her solitude provokes a constant need to make her life more ... Show more content on

Brill s loneliness. Even though she notices the specifics of the woman, Miss Brill does not display any
awareness regarding the similarities between them. Through indirect characterization, the reader may
discern that Miss Brill is preventing herself from consciously empathizing with the woman. She has a
world in her mind where she is happy with observing the lives of others. When a truthful image
threatens to tarnish her creation, she rejects that notion. She does not want to acknowledge the real

In the story The Scarlet Ibis by James Hurst, the author shows many similarities between the narrator s

Doodle did just that, he lived for 6 whole years. His parents even named him William Armstrong,
because they thought it would look good on a tombstone. His brother later renamed him Doodle
because with that kind of name no one would expect much from him. Doodle had many obstacles

Equal Rights to Marry for Same-Sex Couples
California Proposition 8: Same Sex Marriage
The equal right to marry for same sex couples in the United States has acquired growing public
support over time, with a quantity of state level laws passed and others presently up for debate.
Proposition 8 was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment that was passed in the November
2008 state elections in California. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the Declaration
of Rights, to the California Constitution, which provides that only marriage between a man and a
woman is legitimate or recognized in California. By limiting the acknowledgment of marriage to
opposite sex couples, the proposition reversed the California Supreme Court s ruling of In re Marriage
Cases that same sex couples have a constitutional right to get married (Newman, 2010). The wording
of Proposition 8 was exactly the same as Proposition 22, which had passed in 2000 and, as an ordinary
statute, had been nullified by the State Supreme Court in 2008. California s State Constitution put
Proposition 8 into instant effect the day after the election (Scotto, 2010). Supporters of the
constitutional amendment contended that solely heterosexual marriage was a necessary institution of
society and that leaving the constitution untouched would result in public schools teaching the kids
that gay marriage is okay, and that gays do not have the right to redefine marriage for everyone else.
Opponents contended that the freedom to marry is

The Epic Of Gilgamesh, And The Mahabharata
The journey, the hero, the triumph, and the defeat are all elements that some of literatures greatest
works have encaptured, such as: the Ramayana, The Epic of Gilgamesh, and the Mahabharata. Each of
these texts depicts a hero or protagonist that is unique to their culture and although each of these
heroes embark on a different journey with different purposes and goals in mind, they all display a
variety of features that people of then and now can relate to. It becomes transparent that each of the
journeys these heroes undertake are a lot like that of the lives of people today. The Epic of Gilgamesh
is one of the oldest pieces of literature known to man. Written in 2700 B.C.E this epic poem centers in
on an ancient king of Uruk in present day Iraq. When we are first introduced to Gilgamesh, the king of
Uruk, we see that he is a tyrant ruler which is one third human, two thirds divine and in endowed with
immense strength. Instead of serving his people he suppresses them and engages in immoral behaviors
fit for a king. The behaviors result in a backlash from his citizens and the nobles began to complain
bitterly about these behaviors. The gods eventually intervene and in order to tame Gilgamesh s wild
spirit they create his equal, Enkidu, whose purpose in this epic poem is to help guide Gilgamesh in
becoming a better person and a better king for his people. Before Gilgamesh is introduced to Enkidu
there is little in his life that offers meaning to him, yet he still

The Great Migrations was the movement or relocation of over 6 million blacks from Southern rural
regions to Northern urban areas. Looking to leave behind the racial tension of the south, and with

Detroit, and Harlem. Out of these northern metropolises, the most popular was Harlem; here in

However statistics show that only 27% of women deal with hair loss before the age of 50, that being

Unfortunately for me, I was had to deal with hair loss under the age of 50. It was very humiliating

Through my diligent research on the subject, now I have a head of beautiful and long hair once again.
I found that the best way to fight hair loss as women is to first know the reasons for why it happened

research on one way it can happen is not smart and it can be counter productive.

The crimes of today are vast and varied amongst the different socioeconomic statuses. Crimes
committed by poverty stricken individuals are many times out of necessity. For example, a mother
who needs to feed her children will often resort to stealing food or small, expensive items that can be
converted to cash. Poverty can lead to high levels of stress that in turn may lead individuals to commit
theft, robbery, or other violent acts. (Taylor 2006). On the other side of the coin there are also the
crimes committed by the affluent. For many of the same reasons such as stress; stress to succeed or
compete with the neighbours or others in the same socioeconomic status. There is also another
dimension to consider that is often overlooked; the degree of violence or careless disregard of others
when these crimes are committed.
The media highlights on a daily basis, crimes being committed across the nation. The news is usually
about the smaller crimes committed by the poverty stricken. Robbery, theft, gang violence, domestic
abuse and drug raids are the hallmark of the news and very often it is acknowledged, sadly, as a part of
day to day life. However, the big news that catches the attention of almost everyone is the child
abductions, murders and rapes. More often than not these crimes are committed by people that come
from affluence. Andrew Luster, the great grandson of Max Factor Cosmetics magnate Max Factor

Internal And External And Internal Pressure On Media...
External and Internal Pressure on Media Journalists
Journalists are professional people, trying to work within a code of professional ethics. However,
journalists cannot operate in a vacuum, doing what they think is right without pressures being put on
them. Journalists face pressure from a variety of sources, all trying to make the journalist behave in a
way which is not the way the journalist would choose.
Employer:
Your boss pays your salary. In return, they expect to say how you will do your job. This can lead to
ethical problems for journalists.
If you work for a government owned news organization, then your government will be your employer.
This could make it very difficult for you to report critically on things which the government is doing.
Ministers will often put pressure on public service journalists to report things which are favorable to
the government (even when they are not newsworthy) and not to report ... Show more content on

For example, a journalist who is deeply opposed to capital punishment may be writing a story about
crime. In the course of gathering the information, they may interview somebody who calls for the
death penalty as the answer to increasing crime. The journalist may be tempted not to report these
comments, and to leave the question of capital punishment out of the story. This would clearly be
unethical.
It is as bad to censor the news to suit your own views as it is to censor the news to please your family,
or clan, or tribe. This is contrary to the most fundamental principle of free speech that we may
disagree with what somebody says, but that we must fight to defend their right to say it. See Chapter
57: Fairness for a fuller discussion of this principle.
It is not only the things you really believe in which may cause problems. Some journalists accept
contracts to advertise products, as a way of earning some extra money. You must think carefully

The Role Of Competition Law And Its Effects On The Local...
My interest in this paper is to consider a complex network prospective; the application of Competition
Law, and more specifically related to its effects on monopolistic competition, and its effects on the
local market and South African economy as a whole.
South Africa (SA) was distant from many other major markets and production centers. This made it
complex for international trade to compensate for these conditions, even though trade has expanded
since 1994, mainly with the European (EU) and the United States (US). Tariff levels have declined on
average, but anti dumping duties protect key industries such as steel, where the state has long had an
interest and an exclusive export agent can prevent arbitrage between export and local markets. SA s
history of import substitution and the attendant habits of business practice and government policy
favored local insiders thus challenging other market entrants. This encouraged the new SA
government to review the SA competition law regime in the White Paper on Reconstruction and
Development in 1994. The need for a new competition policy in SA was because of excessive
economic concentration and ownership, collusive practices by enterprises and the abuse of economic
power by firms in dominant positions. A need for further transition emanated from the effects of
globalization and trade liberalization and the need to redress past inequality and non participation in
the national economy. Thus fundamental principle of competition policy

Compare And Contrast Early Birds And Night Owls
I am an early bird give me a job:
Well it is very essential that all of us drive out a balance between our biological clock and the ticking
clock, that decides our day to day activities. However, before this, we first need to identify our
biological clock.
There are too many comparisons made between early birds and night owls. You may find some, that
advocate for early birds; while, some say night owls are blessed with additional talents. However, I
believe that both these sections of people, belonging to different chronotype, possess different
potentialities. However, when they are working at their peak hours where they can remain completely
alert and energetic; only then they can perform at highest efficiency levels.
Hope you have identified that balance and know your biological clock. For those who are still unsure,

professionals start quite early each day as they need to arrange mails according to the shortest route
they can opt for. Once they are done with deciding their route and arranging consignments, they go out
to deliver them and usually end their day s work by noon.
Barista and Bakers:
Almost 9 out of 10 individuals start their day with a cup of coffee and a freshly baked pan cake. Pastry
makers or bakers work around the 24 hour clock. They can sit up late at night to prepare
confectioneries that are served after supper or early mornings. Well this serves as a job opportunity for
night owls. However, you as a morning person can also start at dawn to prepare the same bakery items

Inventory System Case Study
In this work, a two warehouse inventory system has been investigated by considering advance
payment and partial backlogging with interval valued inventory cost. In this model, the corresponding
optimization problem with interval objective has been formulated and solved with the help of different
variants of particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique and interval order relations. Due to interval
valued inventory cost, the different variants of PSO algorithm have been developed by using interval
arithmetic and interval order relations. Then the obtained best found solutions (which is either optimal

Baseball In The 90 s Essay
Baseball in the 1990 s, a throwing, running, hitting sport, started in 1845. Baseball in the 90 s was a
good year for baseball. In the late 90 s there was some really good players and really big hitters. The
best hitter was Tony Gwynn ( Thompson 1). . There was a lot of Hall of fame players in the 90 s.
There were some young ones and old ones. One of the best players to play in the 90 s had a steroid
controversy. The player to have the steroid controversy was Mark McGwire. He owed a lot of money,
but using the steroids actually helped him. There was a home run derby in the 90 s too. They have one
every year. In the derby, there has to be a winner and a loser. Everybody loses but the one who does
not hit as much as the other players is the biggest loser. Baseball today is a lot more different than it
used to be by a lot. The players are better than they used to be. There is a leading player today and
there is a not so good player. In the late 90 s there were some good players who played and left some
big shoes to fill for the next people going in after they retire. Just like when Carl Ripken Jr. went way
over Lou Gehrig s playing streak on September 6, 1995 (Johnson 68). Ripken even beat his own
playing streak with 2, 632 in 1998 (Johnson 68). We even had really good hitters too. Tony Gwynn

some of the top home run hitters in the National league. Frank Thomas was the winner in 1995. He

The Religous Unaffiliated in the Article, “Nones on the Rise
We all know that religion is an organized system regarding the spiritual or supernatural along with
various practices that give numerous individuals a sense of purpose in the world and allows these
individuals to understand things beyond their reach. However, while reading the articles from Nones
on the Rise, it is evident that there is an increase in the number of individuals who claim unaffiliation
to any religion in the United States. Nones gives the facts and figures of the Americans who do not
place themselves in any religious category, with an approximate one in five of the public claiming no
affiliation. But there are some individuals who denote themselves as spiritual or religious in some
way. The entire article is an intriguing one because it breaks everything down, from what it means to
be unaffiliated religiously to the composition of the unaffiliated, the demographics of the unaffiliated
and theories as to why there is an increase in the numbers of the years. It is interesting to see how
people view themselves when it comes to their beliefs. The article discusses a couple of reasons
behind the increase of unaffiliated Americans. It is thought that the growth is a result of newer
generations replacing older generations. It is evident that elders are more likely to proclaim religion
than young adults. This is not the only factor. In addition to the general replacement, the decrease of
religious commitment among some of the individuals is also said to be a

The Role Of Masculinity In Disney And Pixar
Characterized to Be Emasculated
Questioning the masculinity within male characters of Disney/Pixar, by watching their son s
perspective on the film Cars, in Post Princess Models of Gender: The New Man in Disney/Pixar, Ken
Gillam and Shannon R. Wooden examine multiple movies and point out that the leading male
characters in Cars, Toy Story, and The Incredibles, are victims of emasculation. Prior to Disney/Pixar
releasing nine movies, Disney conveyed all its main male characters to be alpha male (472). However,
Pixar opened new types of characters, those that led to having the characters masculinity stripped by
another supporting character in the film. The authors draw attention from the strong male model to the
New Man (476) role. Gillam and Wooden focus on the main male characters in each of the movies
who all start with a high machismo personality, which rapidly transitions into an effeminate identity.
Buzz, Woody, Mr. Incredible, and Lighting McQueen all assumed they were going to achieve the
alpha male (472) status, by isolating from their friends and family, and becoming agitated towards any
forces that challenged their power. Each of these characters quickly realized the alpha male qualities
were not going to help them achieve what was expected. The authors point out that the main emotions
that the characters possess in the beginning of the movies is anger and frustration (474). Why did
Disney originally limit the emotions that men can feel? The

Similarities Between Thelma And Louise
Thelma and Louise were two regular women in a world filled with controlling, greedy, powerful men.
Thelma, played by Geena Davis was married to Darryl, a man who only cared about watching TV by
himself without being bothered by anything that his wife said or did. Louise, played by Susan
Sarandon, is a waitress dating a musician who is on the road all the time. Both women were sick and
tired of the same monotonous routine. Even though Thelma seemed like she was in a happy marriage,
she was miserable. She always had to play the part of the perfect housewife who takes care of her
husband. This film was made in 1991, and it does portray a story during those years too. It is

lives, pretended to be the good guy and then robbed all their money. At the end of the day he did, what
these women also did, which is to find a way to survive and escape from the police. It is interesting to
see two women in roles that would best fit men. That was the catch, no one before had seen two
women head out on a road trip and end up killing a guy and running away from the police. Women are
supposed to be gentle, caring, and they should leave the harsh things to men. Women are considered
delicate and are made to love and be loved, but at the end of the day that doesn t mean women are not
capable of doing things men take pride in. We can drive cars just like men do, we can vote just like
they do, we can think for ourselves just like they do, we are strong, intelligent, independent and strong
willed. We have the same rights as men do, but why are we still inferior to them? Why does society
think this way? Well, in the 19th and 20th century it was because that s the way people thought, but
now everything is different. Now Hillary Clinton is a candidate to be the President of America. Now

Diverse Mating Strategies Among Different Species
Diverse Mating Strategies Among Different Dolphin Species
There are a variety of different mating strategies among different male dolphins species. Male mating
strategies and forms of competitive interaction among male cetaceans lead to the development of
sexually dimorphic features such as prominent postanal humps, reproductive adaptation such as large
testis size, and retained bodily scarring caused by interactions with conspecifics. (Murphy, 2005)
Cetacean have been noted to either have a polygynous or polygynandrous mating system. (Murphy,
2005) These mating systems have led to a number of different types of competition among males such
as contest competition (where males limit the access of other males to females by aggressive displays
or fights) scramble competition (competition to disperse and find sexually receptive females),
endurance rivalry competition (competition to remain sexually active over a longer period of time),
mate choice competition (competition in courtship), and sperm competition (competition between the
sperm of 2 or more males). (Murphy, 2005) Individual males will use these different strategies
depending on their dominance in rank, size, age , and number and quality of reproductive females.
(Murphy, 2005) Contest competition and courtship competition have been documented in polygynous
species such as bottlenose dolphin (tursiops truncates), and humpback whales.( Murphy, 2005) Sexual

Energy Efficient Wireless Network For Green Radio Project
Energy Efficient Architectures and Key Techniques to Enable Energy Efficient Wireless Network in
green radio project
Abstract:
Technical innovations changed every day life as fast and profoundly as the massive use of personal
mobile communications. With rapid increase of modern communications networks, problems like
emission of CO2 and energy consumption has emerged which have a potential adverse impact upon
the environment and their operating energy costs are also increasing. Since 2006, data traffic on
mobile networks has been increasing at a rate of approximately 300% and is expected to grow even at
much faster rate. This has forced the researchers to address how to design future wireless networks
which can reduce the energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 2007, analyst Gartner reported that ICT sector share about 2% in carbon emissions. It might appear
small at first sight but the overall footprint of the whole ICT sector is expected to double between
2007 and 2020. Mobile data traffic is going to increase dramatically in the next 5 years and one of the
main reason is increase in mobile video traffic. In developing countries, electricity connections may
not be directly available. So, for example, Vodafone uses extra 1 million gallons of gas per day to
provide power their network. The above example gives us an idea of how the energy is consumed by
the information technology. They are increasing energy costs with larger base station site densities
which leads to increase in energy price. Many companies have decided to reduce carbon emissions,
for example Vodafone has set a target to reduce it CO2 emissions by approximately 50% by 2020.
From an operators perspective, lowering of operating expenditure is possible with reduce in energy
consumption. 3% of world wide energy is used by the Information and Communication architecture
which is causing 2% of world wide CO2 emmission. The main key reason behind the development of
mobile VCE green radio program is to reduce carbon emissions (CO2) and Reduction in operating
expenditure for wireless cellular networks. The challenge of energy reduction should be achieved
without compromise in the quality of service which is experienced by the

How The Philosophies Of Lily And Selden In The House Of Mirth
Lily Bart is 29 years old in early 20th century America, unwed and unattached to any family money.
The House of Mirth follows her story, ten years after her family is financially ruined and she is
orphaned, as she desperately clings to the wealth of her friends and attempts to marry into money.
Among the many suitable prospects, Lily finds Lawrence Selden, a bachelor who exists on the edge of
rich society with no fortune of his own and no desire to acquire any, the most alluring. References to
the Bible and Greek mythology serve to flesh out the respective approaches to life of Lily and Selden,
how those approaches adapt to the course of their lives and the overall struggle between pleasure and
survival. To first establish the different philosophies of Lily and Selden, Wharton titles the novel with
a reference to the Bible which condemns frivolous living, and describes Selden s views relative to two

takes only one thing very seriously: her goal of marrying into a fortune comfortable enough that she
never again has to worry, or really think, at all. Selden, on the other hand, is described as being just as
detached from material desires as a stoic ... combined with [an] Epicurean s pleasure, a paradoxical

The Attitude of a Hacker in Kevin Mitnick s The Art of...
Kevin Mitnick, The Condor, The Darkside Hacker, The greatest hacker alive, whatever name he was
given that pins him down as a perpetrator of the law, Kevin Mitnick still serves as an educator to
enthusiasts in the world of Information Security. He unveils many secrets of the hacker in The Art of
Deception. The Art of Intrusion takes a different twist from its predecessor. It looks at the attitude of
the hacker and what drives them.
Personally the book lacked the full degree of intrusions one is capable of. Looking at the resume
Kevin Mitnick has, successful intruder, phenomenal social engineer, most wanted of the law, caught
and convicted criminal, security consultant and finally company CEO, one would have expected his
personal experiences and intrusions that finally landed him as the greatest hacker ever known by the
media. With this the book lacked some sort of uniqueness because it was based on other stories of
intrusions.
Mitnick took different stories and merged lots of information through them which in turn ended up
being more of an introduction course to types of security breaches than an in depth look at how
hackers can breach security. This showed some form of incompleteness especially to a technical
audience. For the non technical it serves as a good read but not much is learnt and gained by the
technical audience so I feel the target audience was blurred out. The stories seemed very fictional
which again raised the suspicion of whether they were really true or

  • 2. The Hollow Men Stylistics 1. Introduction This paper deals with a stylistic analysis of Eliot s poem The Hollow Men . What are the stylistic featuresexploited by Eliot to make his poem more expressive is the main problem that this study tries to investigate. It aims to explore ways in which language use has been integrated in the selected poems. It is also aimed at analyzing some of the distinctive features that give the selected poem their identity. To fulfill the aim of the study, it hypothesizes that Eliot exploits certain linguistic deviations as an essential way to make his poem more expressive. So as to examine the proposed hypothesis, certain representative examples have been chosen from the poem for the sake of analysis. Some stylistic features are investigated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We normally study style because we want to explain something, and in general, literary stylistics has the goal of explaining the relation between language and artistic function (Leech and Short, 1981: 13).Short and Candlin (1989: 183) view stylistics as a linguistic approach to the study of the literary texts. It thus embodies one essential part of the general course; that of combining language and literary study. Stylistics, the study of the devices in languages such as rhetorical figures and syntactical patterns that are considered to produce expressive or literary style. Haynes (1989: 3) refers to style as the manner of expression which is different in various contexts. It is defined depending on one s field of study.Style as deviation from the norm, Language is a behavior governed by rules and norms. When something is done in a quite different way from how it is usually done, then that is said to be a deviation from the norm. This is achieved by reconstruction from the structural resource of language to extend the frontiers of current usages. This concept is most common at both the lexical and the syntactic level and used mostly for effective ... • 3. The Power Of Mass Media Randy Butler Gender and Culture December 16, 2014 Final Project The Power of Mass Media in Todays World: The Perceptions and Realities Behind the Curtains It s a Thursday night and Jessie is sitting down, munching on some chips and dip, and watching the weekly episode of Scandal with her friend Mary in the dim light of their living room. A scene comes on the television with two gay men intimately approaching each other, about to have sex. For a minute, the girls are tensely sitting in silence, not speaking, but awkwardly staring at the television. As the scene turns to a commercial, the girls begin to loosen up and start giggling. Blushing, Jessie interrupts the awkwardness, Well you don t really see that too much! Scandal is just one of the recent shows featuring gay characters and themes. Slowly, television and motion picture movie films are striving to be inclusive. Gay characters on prime time shows and in top rated, popular films are trying to generally become the norm rather than just the exception, whether as regular characters, or occasional ones. As the world is becoming interconnected and as globalization is at its full peek, people are increasingly being influenced by mass media and popular culture. While society is changing through each decade, so has the media s portrayal of the LGBT gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and queer community. But, do these depictions truly reflect lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer reality? And are these ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Questions On The Nature Of Interpretation Hypothetical Misinterpretation Jerrold Levinson, a prominent hypothetical intentionalist, through his explanation of the relationship between artworks and exploratory interpretations, has gone under criticism for allowing misinterpretations to be deemed as valid could mean options. However, one finds when reading Two Notions of Interpretation and Intention and Interpretation in Literature that these criticisms are effectively countered by two arguments that Levinson presents. Firstly, although the exploratory mode of inquiry can have multiple, if not infinite, could mean answers, it also has could not mean answers. These could not mean interpretations provide insight into the work and allow for interpretations to be judged on a scale ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because they are ludic and not grounded in physical realities one can come up with multiple correct interpretations that are sound but mutually exclusive. To construe what something could mean, Levinson proposes that we, as interpreters, be pragmatic and use logic in combination with our given knowledge of the contexts of works to determine their interpretations. Although there exists an impulse to either exclusively use does mean or could mean modes of inquiry, like an x ray for the former and a metaphor for the latter, the two modes actually have mutual implications. To examine an x ray for what it means is to postulate what it could mean and then come to an apt conclusion. To examine a metaphor is to find what is a plausible response in a determinative context of semantic possibilities. There also exist instances of purely could mean inquiries, says Levinson, like the infinite volumes of Babel, but without a does mean interpretation available, as there are no intentions behind the works, the infinite possible could mean interpretations create an absence of meaning. It is here I would like to extend the definition of does mean interpretation beyond scientific knowledge based answers, to include hypothetical DM interpretations. Although we will see how authorial ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Three Year Trend It is evidently by the graph that the amount of sassy comments significantly decreased over the three week programme. The programme had an average of 10.7 sassy remarks per day compared to the baseline data of 15.5, this shows an average decrease of 4.8 sassy comments. Consequently, the programme data greatly fluctuates over the three weeks with the maximum number of sassy comment made during the three week period was fifteen and the minimum was six. Unmistakeably, there are several trends, both of which are also seen in the baseline data. Firstly, the general trend of sassy comments decreases towards the end of the week and during the weekend (Friday to Sunday) similar to that of the baseline data. In addition, my sassy comments largely peak ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Comparing the two data s, the baseline data had a positive correlation of 0.4048 whereas the programme data had a negative correlation of 0.1513. This signifies that for the baseline data for my sassy comments had a general increase in trend, in contrast to the programme data were it had a negative trend. Although, the 0.1513 is a relatively weak decrease compared to a reasonably moderate increase of 0.4048, it nevertheless demonstrates a small effectiveness of the programme. As seen on the graph, the blue line (baseline data) is largely above the yellow line (programme date) in an upward trend whereas the yellow line gradually declines. It is highly difficult to factor out the antecedents that influence my behaviour; therefore understanding those factors is the second best option. I have noted that my mood affects my amount of sassiness each day and that midweek my mood significantly decreases and then increases in late week. Although, it impacts my data greatly it is too difficult to change these controlling factors. A solution to the problem would be to control the amount of people I see, thus, controlling my sassiness. Generally, I only express sassy comments as a response to a cheeky or somewhat vacuous question/comment made by an acquaintance. Henceforth, restricting the amount of people I see midweek when my sassiness peaks due to antecedents, such as mood, would to some ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The United States Post Civil War The United States post Civil War era from 1875 to 1900 experienced massive economic and industrial growth, especially in the North. The rise of new machines, industries (railroad, oil, steel), and buildings contributed to a major upsurge in the prosperity of the American nation. In 1860, no American city had a population over one million; by 1890, three cities had passed the million mark. New York City became the second largest city in the world after London in 1900. The substantial growth of the U.S economically can be contributed to a group of wealthy capitalists that ran businesses/industries and stimulated economic growth. However, historians have argued over whether these capitalists were robber barons that were corrupt and took advantage of the American people or captains of industry that helped the U.S grow at unparalleled speeds. Wealthy capitalists such as Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were indeed captains of industry who enlarged American industry and businesses, used their wealth to better their communities, and elevated the United States to new heights as one of the leading industrial powers of the entire world. The major wealthy capitalists of the time Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J. Pierpont Morgan, and Cornelius Vanderbilt all played a tremendous role in developing American industry and ultimately the economy as a whole. Through their business ventures, they vastly increased the industrial output of America. For example, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 10. What Is The Theme Of Salaam Brick Lane I have studied a novel excerpt called Salam Brick Lane by Tarquin Hall (1969). The excerpt is mainly about a young man called Tarquin Hall, who wanted to return to his native London. He used to live in south west London, but when he moved in to Salaam Brick Lane were things not as he remembered. The street was a noisy filthy street where prostitutes and drug dealer was visible at the pavements. The next line is from the text and is about the taxi driver warning Hall about the immigrants on the street. you want to watch your back around here mate said the driver, as I paid him through the window. Also in This is England gave me the impression that many teenagers allowed themselves to drink too much alcohol, do drugs and convict crimes. After reading the text how bad are British youth I found out that the situation today has changed. • 11. Comparison Of Scrubs, Friends, And Love The TV sitcoms of Scrubs, Friends, and Love all evolve around single young adults. By comparing the three, one can come to understand how love is shown through TV in the United States. Throughout the episodes, it becomes apparent on why the couples are together. In Scrubs, it is easy to see that Carla and Turk make each other happy. Dr. Perry Cox and Jordan are together because that is where they are comfortable. In Friends, Monica and Richard are together because it makes them happy. Ross and Rachel were bound to be together since the beginning. They are extremely happy when they finally are. The same goes for Mickey and Gus in Love. The way that love is portrayed through these shows is that people should be with someone who makes them happy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In each show, there was some sort of sexual action between the characters. This is very common now in TV shows and movies, as it makes a good story. In all three episodes, it was implied that at least one of the couples engaged in some sort of sexual activity. In Friends, Mr. and Mrs. Geller are still attracted to each other. This helps show that one should always be attracted to the person who they claim to love. There should also always be romance, as in Turk and Carla s case in Scrubs. They engage in a sexual act, as does Gus and Mickey in Love. In Scrubs, it is apparent that work comes first. As Turk and Carla are having issues, Turk still has to go to the hospital when he is paged. However, throughout the episodes, it is apparent that love is about compromise. In Friends, Ross was against tattoos, but was fine after Rachel got one. In Love, Mickey wasn t a big fan of magic, but went to the castle with Gus anyways. • 13. Nisei Daughter by Monica Sone Essay Nisei Daughter, by Monica Sone Even with all the mental anguish and struggle, an elemental instinct bound us to this soil. Here we were born; here we wanted to live. We had tasted of its freedom and learned of its brave hopes for democracy. It was too late, much too late for us to turn back. (Sone 124). This statement is key to understanding much of the novel, Nisei Daughter, written by Monica Sone. From one perspective, this novel is an autobiographical account of a Japanese American girl and the ways in which she constructed her own self identity. On the other hand, the novel depicts the distinct differences and tension that formed between the Issei and Nisei generations. Moreover, it can be seen as an attempt to describe the ... However, if perceived solely as an autobiography, the major theme of this novel is overlooked. I think Monica Sone focuses on, and clearly shows, the tension that arose in the Japanese American community because they felt torn between two distinct cultures and amongst themselves. There was also much confusion in this pre World War II and during WWII era concerning the place of Japanese Americans in the United States. The Issei, or first generation of immigrants from Japan, were generally highly organized in their communities. They tended to stay in close connection with traditional Japanese culture. The Issei spoke their native language, practiced traditional Japanese customs, and formed church groups, and other social communities amongst themselves. Similarly, the Nisei, or second generation Japanese American, were also highly organized and formed strong ties amongst themselves separate from the Issei. The Nisei attended Japanese schools, which enhanced their use of the Japanese language, but more importantly, created a social network of peers. They participated in church programs, and sports teams together. One main difference between the Issei and Nisei was that the Nisei were considered Americans. Analysis Of Agatha Christie s Murder On The Orient Express After reading all evidence in Agatha Christie s Murder on the Orient Express, I strongly believe that Hector MacQueen murdered Samuel Edward Ratchett on the Orient Express for various reasons. All evidence points to Hector MacQueen where he stabbed his boss twelve different times all over his body. Hector MacQueen was Ratchett s secretary for over a year where Ratchett offered him a job while they met in Persia. To start off, MacQueen tells Hercule Poirot in his interrogation, the detective of the case, that he did not like nor trust his employer at all. The first point of evidence that points to MacQueen was that MacQueen remotely thinks that Ratchett was murdered once he was told that his Ratchett was dead, So they got him after all (Christie 49). Right after he said that I think Poirot got him quickly off guard. The second point of evidence that points to MacQueen as the murderer is the story of the murder of Daisy Armstrong. In chapter four, the readers learn that Samuel Edward Ratchett was not his real name. His real name is Cassetti, the lead of the gang that killed Daisy Armstrong. To flee America to avoid being arrested, Cassetti left the United States and changed his name to Ratchett. You must be wondering, what does this have to do with MacQueen? Equal Rights to Marry for Same-Sex Couples California Proposition 8: Same Sex Marriage The equal right to marry for same sex couples in the United States has acquired growing public support over time, with a quantity of state level laws passed and others presently up for debate. Proposition 8 was a ballot proposition and constitutional amendment that was passed in the November 2008 state elections in California. The measure added a new provision, Section 7.5 of the Declaration of Rights, to the California Constitution, which provides that only marriage between a man and a woman is legitimate or recognized in California. By limiting the acknowledgment of marriage to opposite sex couples, the proposition reversed the California Supreme Court s ruling of In re Marriage Cases that same sex couples have a constitutional right to get married (Newman, 2010). The wording of Proposition 8 was exactly the same as Proposition 22, which had passed in 2000 and, as an ordinary statute, had been nullified by the State Supreme Court in 2008. California s State Constitution put Proposition 8 into instant effect the day after the election (Scotto, 2010). Supporters of the constitutional amendment contended that solely heterosexual marriage was a necessary institution of society and that leaving the constitution untouched would result in public schools teaching the kids that gay marriage is okay, and that gays do not have the right to redefine marriage for everyone else. Instead of serving his people he suppresses them and engages in immoral behaviors fit for a king. The behaviors result in a backlash from his citizens and the nobles began to complain bitterly about these behaviors. The gods eventually intervene and in order to tame Gilgamesh s wild spirit they create his equal, Enkidu, whose purpose in this epic poem is to help guide Gilgamesh in becoming a better person and a better king for his people. Crimes committed by poverty stricken individuals are many times out of necessity. For example, a mother who needs to feed her children will often resort to stealing food or small, expensive items that can be converted to cash. Poverty can lead to high levels of stress that in turn may lead individuals to commit theft, robbery, or other violent acts. (Taylor 2006). On the other side of the coin there are also the crimes committed by the affluent. For many of the same reasons such as stress; stress to succeed or compete with the neighbours or others in the same socioeconomic status. There is also another dimension to consider that is often overlooked; the degree of violence or careless disregard of others when these crimes are committed. • 23. The Role Of Competition Law And Its Effects On The Local... My interest in this paper is to consider a complex network prospective; the application of Competition Law, and more specifically related to its effects on monopolistic competition, and its effects on the local market and South African economy as a whole. South Africa (SA) was distant from many other major markets and production centers. This made it complex for international trade to compensate for these conditions, even though trade has expanded since 1994, mainly with the European (EU) and the United States (US). Tariff levels have declined on average, but anti dumping duties protect key industries such as steel, where the state has long had an interest and an exclusive export agent can prevent arbitrage between export and local markets. SA s history of import substitution and the attendant habits of business practice and government policy favored local insiders thus challenging other market entrants. This encouraged the new SA government to review the SA competition law regime in the White Paper on Reconstruction and Development in 1994. The need for a new competition policy in SA was because of excessive economic concentration and ownership, collusive practices by enterprises and the abuse of economic power by firms in dominant positions. A need for further transition emanated from the effects of globalization and trade liberalization and the need to redress past inequality and non participation in the national economy. Thus fundamental principle of competition policy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Male mating strategies and forms of competitive interaction among male cetaceans lead to the development of sexually dimorphic features such as prominent postanal humps, reproductive adaptation such as large testis size, and retained bodily scarring caused by interactions with conspecifics. (Murphy, 2005) Cetacean have been noted to either have a polygynous or polygynandrous mating system. (Murphy, 2005) These mating systems have led to a number of different types of competition among males such as contest competition (where males limit the access of other males to females by aggressive displays or fights) scramble competition (competition to disperse and find sexually receptive females), endurance rivalry competition (competition to remain sexually active over a longer period of time), mate choice competition (competition in courtship), and sperm competition (competition between the sperm of 2 or more males). (Murphy, 2005) Individual males will use these different strategies depending on their dominance in rank, size, age , and number and quality of reproductive females. (Murphy, 2005) Contest competition and courtship competition have been documented in polygynous species such as bottlenose dolphin (tursiops truncates), and humpback whales.( Murphy, 2005) Sexual dimorphism in size, weaponry (teeth and husks), and ... • 32. Energy Efficient Wireless Network For Green Radio Project Energy Efficient Architectures and Key Techniques to Enable Energy Efficient Wireless Network in green radio project Abstract: Technical innovations changed every day life as fast and profoundly as the massive use of personal mobile communications. With rapid increase of modern communications networks, problems like emission of CO2 and energy consumption has emerged which have a potential adverse impact upon the environment and their operating energy costs are also increasing. Since 2006, data traffic on mobile networks has been increasing at a rate of approximately 300% and is expected to grow even at much faster rate. This has forced the researchers to address how to design future wireless networks which can reduce the energy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 2007, analyst Gartner reported that ICT sector share about 2% in carbon emissions. It might appear small at first sight but the overall footprint of the whole ICT sector is expected to double between 2007 and 2020. Mobile data traffic is going to increase dramatically in the next 5 years and one of the main reason is increase in mobile video traffic. In developing countries, electricity connections may not be directly available. So, for example, Vodafone uses extra 1 million gallons of gas per day to provide power their network. The above example gives us an idea of how the energy is consumed by the information technology. They are increasing energy costs with larger base station site densities which leads to increase in energy price. Many companies have decided to reduce carbon emissions, for example Vodafone has set a target to reduce it CO2 emissions by approximately 50% by 2020. From an operators perspective, lowering of operating expenditure is possible with reduce in energy consumption. 3% of world wide energy is used by the Information and Communication architecture which is causing 2% of world wide CO2 emmission. The main key reason behind the development of mobile VCE green radio program is to reduce carbon emissions (CO2) and Reduction in operating expenditure for wireless cellular networks. The challenge of energy reduction should be achieved without compromise in the quality of service which is experienced by the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. How The Philosophies Of Lily And Selden In The House Of Mirth Lily Bart is 29 years old in early 20th century America, unwed and unattached to any family money. The House of Mirth follows her story, ten years after her family is financially ruined and she is orphaned, as she desperately clings to the wealth of her friends and attempts to marry into money. Among the many suitable prospects, Lily finds Lawrence Selden, a bachelor who exists on the edge of rich society with no fortune of his own and no desire to acquire any, the most alluring. References to the Bible and Greek mythology serve to flesh out the respective approaches to life of Lily and Selden, how those approaches adapt to the course of their lives and the overall struggle between pleasure and survival. To first establish the different philosophies of Lily and Selden, Wharton titles the novel with a reference to the Bible which condemns frivolous living, and describes Selden s views relative to two ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The title The House of Mirth refers to a Bible quote that argues somber, serious people are wise, while only fools are mirthful (King James Version, Ecc. 7.4). Lily exemplifies the latter lifestyle, caring mostly about the caliber of her gowns and about spending time with friends gambling or traveling. She takes only one thing very seriously: her goal of marrying into a fortune comfortable enough that she never again has to worry, or really think, at all. Selden, on the other hand, is described as being just as detached from material desires as a stoic ... combined with [an] Epicurean s pleasure, a paradoxical combination inherited from his mother s own values (Wharton 163). • 34. The Attitude of a Hacker in Kevin Mitnick s The Art of... Kevin Mitnick, The Condor, The Darkside Hacker, The greatest hacker alive, whatever name he was given that pins him down as a perpetrator of the law, Kevin Mitnick still serves as an educator to enthusiasts in the world of Information Security. He unveils many secrets of the hacker in The Art of Deception. The Art of Intrusion takes a different twist from its predecessor. It looks at the attitude of the hacker and what drives them. Personally the book lacked the full degree of intrusions one is capable of. Looking at the resume Kevin Mitnick has, successful intruder, phenomenal social engineer, most wanted of the law, caught and convicted criminal, security consultant and finally company CEO, one would have expected his personal experiences and intrusions that finally landed him as the greatest hacker ever known by the media. With this the book lacked some sort of uniqueness because it was based on other stories of intrusions. Mitnick took different stories and merged lots of information through them which in turn ended up being more of an introduction course to types of security breaches than an in depth look at how hackers can breach security. This showed some form of incompleteness especially to a technical audience. For the non technical it serves as a good read but not much is learnt and gained by the technical audience so I feel the target audience was blurred out. The stories seemed very fictional which again raised the suspicion of whether they were really true or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
