Cause Of Homelessness In The United States
Homelessness in the United States is an area of concern for providers, government officials, policy
professionals, and society at large. An estimated 1.6 million unduplicated persons use transitional
housing or emergency shelters every year. Of these people, approximately 1/3 are members of
households with children, a nine percent increase since 2007. A study done by the National Law
Center on Homelessnessand Povertystated that approximately 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of
them children, are likely to experience homelessness in a given year (National Law Center on
Homelessness and Poverty, 2007). With 2007 as a benchmark, the data from the report showed a
6.8 percent decline in homelessness among individuals, a 3.7 percent decline of homeless families, a

considerably, due, in part, to initiatives by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development

US Department of Housing and Urban Development has issued an Annual Homeless Assessment
Report, which revealed the number of individuals and families that were homeless, both sheltered
and unsheltered. It standardized the data collection processes and created more opportunities for
government officials and service providers to remedy the problem of homelessness in the United

Motherhood
A total of 18 University of California, Los Angeles undergraduate students from a research methods
class were used to fulfill a course requirement. The gender breakdown was comprised of 15 self
identified females, 2 males, and 1 gender queer. The mean age was an average of 20 with an age
range from 18 years to 22 years.
A 2x2 within subjects design was used for the present study. The first independent variable, of
Motherhood, has two levels. The first level is if the applicant was identified as a Mother, which
is defined by having dependents in the home to claim on their W 2 forms as indicated on the
resume. The second level was if the applicant was a non mother, a non mother was defined as not
claiming any dependents on the W 2 form ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The four resumes were printed on 9x11 paper and had on the top left corner the word name, next
to the name was a letter, either A, B, C, or D. A was the first resume the participant viewed
regardless of what was on the resume, B was the second, C the third and D the last. The way of
identifying the resumes was done so that the letter would not correspond to a specific resume or
level and create an extraneous variable. Underneath the name the word school was listed along with
the school for that given level, either Harvard University for high prestige or California State
University, Long Beach for low prestige. Harvard University was chosen to operationalize high
prestige because as an Ivy League institution there comes a high reputation and prestige with the
name. For the low prestige level, California State University, Long Beach (Cal State, Long Beach)
was chosen because, in comparison to Harvard University, it is low in prestige. Cal State, Long
Beach was chosen as an equal comparison instead of a community college because they are in two
different states but both have given the student potential to receive a Bachelors of Arts/Science
degree. Under the school, the words extracurricular was listed, and next to the words were one of
four listed extracurriculars that the applicant took part of at the respective college. The four
extracurriculars were either president of a school club, participation in the school s

Music Therapy And Its Effect On Children
Music plays an important role in everyone s life and, although the majority of people nowadays
have heard of music therapy, not many are exactly sure of what it is nor are they aware of its
beneficial effects (Peters 2). Children, in particular, have shown significant improvement in their
disabilities when subjected to musical therapy. Music therapist Ulla Holck s studies show that
music therapycan meet the basic needs of children with special needs, such as behavioral
problems, attention skills, social skills, emotional needs and intersubjective skills. In addition
cognitive skills can be strengthened if the basic needs are fulfilled (45). Music therapy is a
process in which music is utilized to meet or enhance the individual s mental and physical health.
The introduction of music therapy has always brought many benefits, no matter if in general
settings or in schools and families; it is documented to ameliorate the relationship between a child
and the family, as well as aid children with disabilities, such as autism, and special needs. Because
of the proven effectiveness of music therapy for children with disabilities and not, parents should
be encouraged to make music apart of their children s lives.
There is plenty of evidence that proves that music has been utilized in therapy and healing practices
since ancient times. Among the earliest people to practice music therapy before it even became a
profession were the shamans, who originated in the primitive civilizations

Comparing Justice In Electra And Sophocles
Sophocles s Electra focuses mainly on the justifications of some actions, Sophocles sees justice as
the most important thing that leads to the actions of others. Herodotus is nearly the exact opposite.
He seems to not see any importance with justice, within The Histories he shows that the most
important thing when writing is showing what caused certain events to happen, as well as evidence
to both sides of the story, allowing the reader to decide what really happened. Although these two
texts and their authors seem to be completely different, they do share similarities. They both try to
decide and show how and why things happened; the causation of events. Sophoclesshows justice as
the only cause of all events while Herodotustries to show all the possibilities and sides of historical

In today s world, justice is defined simply as The process or result of using laws to fairly judge
and punish crimes and criminals. However, Sophocles helps to show that justice, in the time of
Electra, is constituted by anything that is deemed as honorable. At the beginning of the play,
Orestes states, When I went to the oracle of Apollo, to discover how best to take revenge for my
father revenge on his killers that is my right and due here s what Apollo said: Place not your
trust in an army s sword or shield. Use cunning. Kill them yourself and justly so (4). In making
this speech, Orestes shows how justice, in this case revenging someone s murder, is seen as a
very honorable act in this time period. There are other examples of Sophocles view of justice
within his play. The two main acts of justice are that Sophocles focus on are: the murder of King
Agamemnon, by his wife Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus, the other, the main focus of the
play, the murder of Clytemnestra and Aegisthus for murdering King Agamemnon. However, can

Contemporary Issues Of Hotel Management Essay
BX772102 CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN HOTEL MANAGEMENT
Hotel Brand Strategy
Critique Article # 1
Sagar Sharma
1/2/2015
The critique of the article has been done to identify some assumptions that are being made by the
authors, further challenging them and proving the point to be valid or not.
Assumption 1. In the given article the authors have discussed about the effects of branding of a hotel
on its existing and potential guests as well as the owners or management. In this assumption the
authors strongly believe that the customer satisfaction is strongly being affected by the franchising
strategy of the brand adopted by the franchisees.
Evidence by the author
Although the assumption made by the authors clearly says that franchising strategy of brand has
negative effects on the customer satisfaction but he evidence provided by the author in support of
the assumption partially agrees and partially disagrees with the assertion. According to a study
conducted during the years 2000 to 2003 for two hotels (La Quinta Inn Suites and Westin Hotels) a
decline of 2.6% in guest satisfaction was seen when La Quinta Inn Suites franchised 25.8% of its
total hotels whereas on the other hand an increase of 6.4% in guest satisfaction was registered when
Westin group franchised 9.6% of its properties.
Challenging the assumption According to me the assumption made by the authors is absolutely
valid. In the current scenario the guests have become more demanding and brand conscious. I

In contrary to the secular or capitalist worldview stands the religious or spiritual worldview. It
gives tribute and attention to both the spiritual as well as the material aspects of human wellbeing.
In fact, the spiritual worldview does not necessarily reject logical reasoning in human
improvement, individual freedom or self interest (Chapra, 1995). This worldview, however,
highlights that moral values and good governance are required as restraining factors for freedom

Adlerian Theory In The Movie Antwone Fisher
Upon watching the movie Antwone Fisher, I found that Psychodynamic theory and Adlerian theory
would serve well to treating the movie s main character, Antwone. Antwone is an African American
man who struggles with his emotionally unstable life. He joined the Navy after leaving Cleveland,
but was plagued with anger and temperament issues which stem from his childhood. These issues,
upon watching further into the movie, are associated with the emotional and physical abuse that
was inflicted upon him via varying authoritarian figures from his foster family. These childhood
issues have since caused Antwone to struggle finding a self image and identity that he can call his
very own.
Psychodynamic theory revolves around the perspective to attempt and gain an intuitive
understanding of what transpires in the mind of an individual and how these thoughts ultimately
drive the individual in an outward sense. Counselors who use this theory help the client to look
into their personal relationships, the experiences due to their worldviews, and how their
preferences affect their behaviors and personality. Antwone, upon being placed into therapy
sessions was angry and clearly thought the course of action was a waste of time. To begin the
process of conceptualizing Antwone s problems, a psychodynamic counselor might ask about the
relationships Antwone had as a child. Davenport, in the movie, asks Antwone where he is from
with Antwone s response being Under a rock. In the last of the three mandatory sessions, Antwone,
once he begins to open up to Davenport, discloses that his father was shot to death a couple of
months before he was born and his mother was in prison and had to give him up due to the
circumstances. Antwone was then placed in a foster home with two other children, one older and
one younger the older brother is half Caucasian and half African American. Upon first disclosure,
Antwone mentions that his foster mother would beat him and his other African American brother.
When talking about his relationships with his foster family, Antwone eventually discusses how his
foster mother s cousin, Nadine, raped him when he was just six years old.
A counselor, such as Davenport, can parallel Antwone s past

Analysis Of Canadian Politician Ron Johnson
Pricing is actually a pretty simple and straight forward thing. Customers will not pay literally a
penny more than the true value of the product (Johnson, R. n.d.). The introductory citation by
Canadian Politician Ron Johnson lays the foundation for this case assignment. A case assignment
composed of proposals to numerous companies pertaining to their pricingstrategy. For products
created by their individual organizations. Let s kickoff this case assignment by exploring possible
strategies, for a company that recently developed a new 3D television.
3D television:
A company has produced a state of the art 3D television that contains unique features, that is
different from other 3D televisions currently in the market. This company acquired a patent on a
new technology that doesn t involve the end user to put on 3D glasses to enjoy the effect and
display of this contemporary television. Due, to the patent and superior technology this company
will revel in the advantage it will gain over other companies for at least a year or two. So, it would
be prudent that this company heeds the following advice, in protecting their interest concerning the
pricing strategy for this advanced 3D television.
Consider your overall marketing goals, such as penetrating new markets with new products, or
maintaining a higher market share with existing products compared to your closest competitors
(Paley, N. 2006). Since, technology is constantly developing and manufacturers are always

Essay On Muscular Dystrophy
Muscular dystrophy is a lethal sex linked disorder characterised by progressive muscle weakness
and muscle degeneration. It has been a medical problem for many years. In particularly
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) for it is the most frequently occurring and one of the
most rapidly progressive in children neuromuscular disorders (MDA, 2015). DMD affects
approximately 1 in 3600 live male births throughout the whole world (MDA, 2015). DMD can
cause or create an array of difficulties for diagnosed patients depending on how bad the patient s
case of DMD is. This is all as a result of the faulty or lack of the dystrophin gene, making it
incredibly difficult for these patients to do simple activities like walking and running.
Currently there is no cure for DMD, but certain exercise therapy and muscle building medicines to
slow down or reverse the progression of muscular dystrophy. Other treatments are being tested to
see if they could control or suppress the symptoms of DMD. These treatments include; albuterol,
amino acids, coenzyme Q10, carnitine, fish oil, creatine, green tea extracts and vitamin E
(Haldeman Englert, 2015). Despite these few temporary treatments it is said that gene therapy

The Poetry Of Edgar Allan Poe
When hearing the name Edgar Allan Poe, it is simple to know who is being talked about, the
mostly grim, melancholy, and dark poet. Along with many other people who have been through
rough times, Poe expresses his past experiences and pain through a work specific to him, short
stories and poems. Edgar Allan Poe uses his life s story to write pieces that display the time
period he lived in, the influences on his poetry, and solid topics that are critiqued. First off, Poe
discreetly uses certain dialect in his work that brings attention to the time period he lived in.
Due to Poe being born in Boston 19 January 1809 , he had more of what now seems to be older
and formal dialect in his work (Kennedy page 734). Back then, a romantic and time consuming
thought that was a love that the wingГЁd seraphs of Heaven Coveted where the bond between
two people was seemingly unbreakable (Poe line 11). The use of the word wingГЁd implies that
Poe lived in an earlier century due to the fact that no one today talks like that. Edgar Allan Poeuses
many phrases to indicate what time period he lived in. When he died Sunday October 7 in 1849,
it was still in the time period of formal and proper speech (Kennedy page 734). To be shut up in a
sepulcher was the kind of thing Poe would reference in his work in one way or another, but this
would not be said like that today. The people of this century would say phrases including six feet
under , one foot in the grave , tombstone , etc. which is significantly less sophisticated than the
phrases that were used during Poe s time. Next, Poe had a rough life that greatly influenced his
writing. Edgar Allan Poe went through embrace and joy with people in which they loved with a
love that was more than a love , for example, his fourteen year old first cousin, Virginia Clemm
(Poe line 9) (Bleiler page 596). Such love led Poe to creating portions of his works based on this
overwhelming feeling of excitement, sincerity, and loyalty. However, as it is well too known, not
everything is picture perfect. Poe, much like everyone else, had many tragic heartaches. One of his
most significant heartaches would be Virginia s death in 1847 where she died due to illness (Prida
page 225).

Selfishness Is Being Selfish
A person who does a good deed for the sake of one s gratification, a person who puts personal
obligations before others, and a person who lacks the value of human life, is a person whose
forehead is stamped with a single word: selfish. Selfishness may present itself in times of danger,
especially when the decision comes to saving oneself or saving another along the way. Twenty
first century society dictates that when one is in a situation, such as being in a burning building,
they are morally obligated to do what is seen as right. As the fire engulfs the building from all
sides, deep red flames can be seen. The fire isn t only burning, but it s burning with such intensity
like the fearsome fire breathing mythological creature, Chimera. The Chimera, a hybrid of a lion,
goat, and snake, is viewed with fear or intrigue, similar to selfishness itself, so this begs the
question; is selfishness ultimately immoral, or can it be ethical?
In Examined Life, philosopher Slavoj Zizek discusses the trait that most human beings possess:
being selfish. As the documentary begins, Zizek can be seen scouring a junkyard, disclosing his
philosophy on ecology. As stated by Zizek, ecology addresses genuine problems that society is
aware of but continues to turn a blind eye. Furthermore, Zizek dives into the misconception that
people continue to make about waste and trash; people believe that waste and trash are one in the
same, however, waste disappears, but trash doesn t. While digging around

The expedition was, however not as successful as his capture of Ticonderoga, and some
historians even believed that it was doomed from the beginning as the trail to Quebec was long

discontent within his regiment. Things soon turned for the worse as an intercepted British letter
told of more redcoat reinforcements were on the way. Arnold elected to postpone the attack until
his backup, Colonel Montgomery, showed up. But the trail up to Quebec had not been very nice
to Colonel Montgomery forces who showed up with very low morale and most importantly lower
than expected numbers. Despite this fact, Arnold decided to move ahead with the attack anyways

American defeat. Although the expedition failed, the Americans did manage to sustain as crippling

Similarities And Similarities Of Judaism
Religion for everyone can be quite different because there are many different forms that they can
take on. There are many different kinds such as Catholicism, Muslim, Christianity, Buddhism, and
many more. Often enough they have their own similarities, such as one God, same beliefs with
slightly different versions of praying or rituals and there are many other things of notice. The ones
that I wish to discuss are the religions Judaism, one of the larger groups in the world and a smaller
one known as Heathenry. The reason for me choosing these two is because they have a large
amount of differences just from the surface alone, some of the main ones being that they have
completely different size of followers. For Judaism, the size is in the millions while Heathenry is
the opposite and falls below 500,000. Another major factor is that Judaism only has one Godversus
how Heathenry has multiply as well as spirits. The main concepts that will be focused on Myths,
Rituals, religious practitioners or specialists and the altered states of consciousness, as well as
how they believe the world was created. The first one to be discussed is the major one first,
Judaism which is located around the world but started off in cities such as Jerusalem. Judaism had
a variety of moments, most were from Rabbinic Judaism, which says that God revealed his laws
and commandments to Moses. This was challenged by various other groups and provided splits,
one being Judaism.

Mutjinga Myth Summary
The story about Mutjinga, a woman of spiritual and asomatous power, is a tale that seeks to explain
the relationships between men and women in early Australian societies, while also tying these
motifs and themes into the greater collective Dreamtime cosmology of the Aboriginals. This story
suggests that women and men did not hold tantamount positions within their early societies
justifying the superiority of men, while also implying that there was a time when women had the
upper hand, and may return to challenge male authority once again. To explain, the myth illustrates
that in the Dreamtimeland of the Murinbata people, a place existed where an old womannamed
Mutjinga, a woman of power, lived. Aboriginals believed that all the things in the world had
both a palpable physical form as well as a spirit form, which was invisible. When living things
passed away, it was regarded that their spirits went to a secret cave, of which Mutjinga was the
caretaker; and only Mutjinga had the power to speak with these spirits. The tale insinuates, that
women, such as Mutjinga, once had the power and authority over men, because they possessed
abilities men did not have. As evidenced in The Man Eater: The Mutjinga Myth, Mutjinga could
speak with the spirits. Because she had this power, she could do many things which men could not.

The Theme of Leadership Portrayed in The Odyssey and the...
Built in qualities such as intelligence, good looks, height and so on are not necessary to become a
good leader. Anyone can cultivate the proper leadership qualities. In order to excel in their
leadership a good leader must possess qualities such as self awareness, courage, confidence,
innovation, fairness, openness, and dedication among others. Odysseus in The Odyssey, and
Samuel, Saul and Davidin the Books of Samuel, display these characters. However, at some
occasions they fail to do so. That is to say, leaders, being it great or small, chosen by God or people,
are not completely perfect.
Self awareness is one of the leadership qualities portrayed in The Odyssey and the Books of
Samuel. Odysseus possesses this quality. Several times ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He shows he is weak and not ready to lead. (1 Samuel 9:21). Saul even hides when he is supposed
to show himself to the Israelites as the chosen King (1 Samuel 11: 22). Although Saul knows that
he cannot lead, he has no choice, he has to follow the Lord s order. At last, God realizes that Saul
was indeed not a leader type person and chooses another person. God must have known that people
are not forced to be leaders, but they themselves should be aware of the ability to be leaders.
Confidence is another trait a leader should possess. Both Odysseus in The Odyssey and David
in the Books of Samuel demonstrate this quality. They have belief in their abilities to meet most
challenges that come their way. Odysseus never believes a person initially, being it mortal or
immortal. He always likes to be done in his way. Odysseus believes in himself rather than
anybody else. He wants to figure what to do for himself and not someone else do it for him. For
instance, he argues with Calypso and Ino because Odysseus did not believe them initially, but
wanted things to be done his way (Book 5, line 180 line 370). Moreover, David, another God
chosen King of Israelites, shows confidence when he tells Saul that though he (David) is young,
he can fight the giant Philistine warrior, Goliath (1Samuel 17:32 37). However, David confidence
is from the fact that God is on his side and will not let him down.
Courage is also needed in a leadership. This quality is portrayed in The

She is too strong to accept the lack of power women faced at the time. Uninterested in men, she
invests all of her emotions in Jesus until she meets Lue Gim Gong.
She sees Lue as her creation; others see him as her pet. In fact, he is more independent than she
can accept. Rudely rejecting the possibility of a positive influence from his own family, she says
how she made him as much of an improved variety of Chinaman as his salmonberry, cherry
currant, and tomato were of plants (McCunn, 154). Though her closeness to him it allows her to be
offended by others racism, as she regards him as someone special rather than a typical Chinaman.
After Fanny s death, he was barred from the church they had regularly worshipped in, on account of
his color.
Finally there is Sheba, Fanny s black servant whose father was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan
shortly after winning his freedom from slavery. Sheba worked alongside Lue in the orange groves
and probably understood him best. This is because Sheba s eyes were the least blinded by
prejudice and ignorance. Unlike their white neighbors, neither Lue nor Sheba was too proud to
share their different knowledge and company.

Deaf Persuasive Speech
Take a second, close your eyes, and imagine silence. Nothing is going on around you; you can t
even hear a pin drop. Not a sound to be heard for miles. You open your eyes expecting the world
to come to life, and everything to breath wavelengths into your ears, but instead, you are met
with an ocean of nothingness. People hustle about you, yelling at you to move out of their way,
but still... nothing. This is the reality of a deaf person s world. Every day they wake up to this,
and nothing more. When out in public, they must learn to communicate, to fend for themselves
while the hearing go on with their lives as normal. We don t even realize how blessed we are as a

Although it is possible for deaf children to attend public schools and succeed, research suggests
that it is best for them to have their own environment, says Meagan McDonough. It is already
hard enough for a hearing student to find his/her place in the classroom, but when you add being
deaf to the list, a major challenge presents itself. This deaf student must work extra hard to keep
up and be able to read the lips of his/her teachers and fellow peers, and learn to communicate.
Even though accommodations are made and sometimes interpreters are given, it is hard for the
student to feel welcome. If this student were to attend a deaf school, he/she would not have to
work so hard and would find it much easier to communicate and socialize both of which are major
focuses in a high school student s life. In Meagan McDonough s article Deaf and Hard of Hearing
Children in Public Schools , she states that public schools might not be best for deaf students,
but if they start out in a deaf school and eventually integrate into a hearing school, they will be
better off and be able to keep up. I agree with her in that it is good for a child to at least start his
/her education in a deaf school so that the base of their foundation is laid by something they can
understand. If later they feel comfortable trying out a public school, they may do so and will
find it easier to be and feel included. However, if ASL was to be offered in all public schools and
colleges, it would give hearing students the chance to be able to communicate and be more
comfortable with deaf

Fair Work Australia Fair Work Australia (FWA) is the new government industrial relations
institution established by the Rudd Government s Fair Work Act 2009. It replaced WorkChoice act
on 1 July 2009. This essay will compare and contrast FWA and WorkChoice from the theory of

stated that All workers have protection after a six month qualifying period (12 months for small
businesses with 15 full time equivalent staff or less) and The exemption from unfair dismissal
when sackings occur for operational reasons will be removed. This was seen as the major
improvement on WorkChoices. By contrast, under WorkChoice Laws the coverage of the unfair
dismissal laws was as less as to only business employing more than 100 employees (Loudoun,
2009, p79). So this law leads to that more unfair treatment of employees when they were
dismissed as indicated by the decline of unfair dismissal application to the Industrial Relation
Commission of NSW (IRC of NSW 2006, p.11) and the AIRC (AIRC 2007).
Rudd government retained the restriction of union right of entry to workplaces, and restrictions on
workers right to strike (Ross Gittins, 2007), But union right of entry under Fair Work Australia is

Similarities Between Migo And Plato
In Plato s text The Republic his ideal nation is one without poetry. Plato makes the assertion that
poetry imitations reality and it takes us further, instead of closer, to the forms (i.e. truth), thus
leading to falsehood (142). Platonism in relation to Milton s L Allegro and IL Penseroso are what
makes these two poems in opposition of one another. The poem L Allegro affirms Plato belief
about poetrybecause it offers readers an illusionary and sensationalize approach to reality. Whereas,
IL Penserosorefutes this notion by bestowing on the readers a rational view, which in turn leads to
the truth.
Milton opens L Allegro Hence loathed Melancholy / Of Ceberus and Blackest Midnight born / In
stygian cave forlorn (1 3), the speaker opening lines is a calling against Melancholy and praying for
its dismissal, thus he invites the Mirth and together they live in unreproved pleasures free (40).
Mirth invites the speaker into an imaginative world away from the reality that is Melancholy. After
the speaker goes with Mirth he begins to go off in a tangent about countryside life stating: And
Milkmaid singeth blithe
And mower wheats his scythe
And every shepherd tells his tale
Under the hawthorn in the dale
Straight mine eyes hath caught new pleasures
Whilst the landscape round its measures
Russet lawns, fallows grey,
Were the nibbling flocks do stray
Mountains on whose barren breast
The laboring clouds do often rest (65 75)

Essay On Budgeting
Did you know Google AdWords just announced on October 4, 2017, advertisers budgets will be
automatically enabled to exceed their daily allotment by two times?
Is this an optional change?
Nope!
Is this a good change and will it affect how you actually allocate your daily ad spend? Well, that
depends.
What Does the New Adwords Daily Budget Update Really Mean for You?
When it comes right down to it what s changed? And do you actually lose any control over your
daily AdWords budget spend?
Google hasn t made any major changes to AdWords in quite some time until now. Google quietly
made the announcement about their new daily budget policy. But the elusive way it was presented
makes advertisers a little nervous because they don t want the ... Show more content on

However, the end result of this policy, which is yet to be seen, has advertisers concluding that
setting a daily budget means nothing now.
Potential Issues (Good and Bad) as a Result of This New Update
There are several things that are going to change and perhaps be a little more challenging. For
example:
1. You ll probably never come in under your monthly advertisingbudget again. That could be good
or bad depending on how you look at it.
2. This change will help you maximize your monthly ad spend by showing your ads to more
people and that s great. Isn t that what you want? Of course you do. But it s also an opportunity
for Google to increase their ad revenue because this will have every advertiser coming a little closer
to spending all of their monthly budget. So it appears to be a win win for everyone.
3. Your daily tracking reports will show more sporadic numbers. On some days your ads will be
overserved and other days they will fall short, but the daily fluctuations will go both ways which
means your spend will level out by month s end.
Explaining How it All Works
Google has always had the ability to exceed the daily AdWords budget you ve selected; however,
they previously had it capped at 20 percent versus the 100 percent they are now using to manipulate
their policy.
This process is called overdelivery. There are some

The Geographic Information System ( Gis ) Essay
Today s society relies heavily on the use of computers and computerised information, so much so
that we rarely notice when an activity or action involves the use of technology. Over the past 30
years, technology has continued to develop into extremely complex systems capable of processing
large amounts of data. It is now possible to represent not only numbers and letters, but also images,
sounds and maps (Bernhardsen, 2002, p. 1). A Geographic Information System(GIS) is a computer
system or application designed to perform a variety of operations based on geographic
information. GIS is a tool used by many organisations, businesses, schools, governments and
individuals searching for innovative ways to solve problems (Evans, 2014). Geographic
Information Systems allow users to map, model, analyse and query data all within a single
database according to their location (Evans, 2014). Information about the world is stored as a
collection of layers; these layers can be linked together by a common locational component such
as zip codes, latitude and longitude or road name. These geographic references allow individuals
to locate features for analysis of trends and patterns (Evans, 2014). Dozens of layers can be added
and organised to display a wide array of information on many subjects.
Computer based GIS systems have knowingly been used since the late 1960 s (Coppock Rhind,
1997). However, the history of GIS is relatively unrecorded, it is a field in which history is little

King Jeremiah Research Paper
Next, we read in verses two to three: To whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah
the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign. It came also in the days of
Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, until the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son
of Josiah, king of Judah, until the carrying away of Jerusalem captive in the fifth month. Like
many of the prophetic Books, we are given the range of Jeremiah s career as a prophet to the
nation which spanned some fifty years. In verse two we learn that Gods call to Jeremiah comes in
the 13th year of the reign of King Josiah which was in 627 BC. At this point the wicked king

The first reason Jeremiah should be encouraged to take up the ministry is that his very life is
rooted in the unshakable, sovereign purposes of God. The same is true for every child of God.
Second, God sanctified him. He set him apart for something significant. And that is true for us
too. In giving every Christian grace and gifts, God consecrated us to be like Jesus and to use our
gifts for his glory. And third, God ordained Jeremiah to be a prophet. I ordained you to be a
prophet to the nations. This is why Jeremiah was born. This is his destiny. And you have one
too. No Christian exists merely to make an honest living, raise a family, enjoy retirement, and
die. Every one of us is called to a ministry. Then in verse six we hear of Jeremiah s anxiety and
excuse when he is called: Then said I: Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth. This
is quite similar to the excuse Moses made who said: O my Lord, I am not eloquent. But God says
who makes man s mouth now go. And enabling the call, the Lord encourages Jeremiah by saying
(1:7 8): Do not say, I am a youth, for you shall go to all to whom I send you, and whatever I
command you, you shall speak. Do not be afraid of their faces, for I am with you to deliver you,

The Iron Giant Character Analysis
Griffin Sikes
Christian Beliefs
15 November 2017
The Iron Giant was a movie that I believe had many different theological theme. But for me the
one theme that stuck out the most was of Christ and his sacrifice for us. Just like Christ
sacrificed his life for us The Iron Giant sacrificed himself for the people of Rockwell. In this paper
we are going to look at how The Iron Giant and the journey Jesus Christ and his sacrifice for us are
similar, we will also look at how we are supposed to live life like a child.
In order for us to look at this movie theologically we have to know what happened. In this movie
a 50 foot tall robot crash lands on earth. He is later found by Hogarth Hough and they become
friends and they do a lot of stuff together. Eventually the army gets called and they try and destroy
this monster but this just made the giant mad and he began defending himself. At the end of the
movie and bomb is launched at the giant that will kill everyone. The Iron Giant decides to sacrifice
himself for his friend and the people of Rockwell.
The first thing I want to point out was this line from Kent Mansley who said.
No, Marv. Big things happen in big places, and the sooner I file my report, the sooner I can get back
to them. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0129167/quotes)
I point this out because people didn t think big things could come out of a small town like
Rockwell. Just like people not thinking something good could come out of Rockwell,

He adds to this by introducing the concepts of rational and irrational authority, explaining that
rational authority would be equivalent to that of a teacher and student whereby there is mutual
benefit, while irrational authority would be identified by the likes of a slave and his owner who
demonstrates complete disregard of the slave s happiness or well being, his only interest being
how the slave will benefit him. Through a veil of lies man obeys the State, the Church, the mass
opinions of their peers, or any other organization that they view to be in power. This affords him
a false sense of safety and protection. In his obedience, man feels strong allowing him to be
controlled by the fear of being isolated or having undesirable repercussions greet him as a result
of any disobedience. Throughout history it has been evident that, for the most part, the few in
power have ruled over the majority. The foundation of this relationship has been the few equating
obedience with virtue and disobedience with sin, resulting in man not only needing to obey, but
wanting to obey. Man s inability to see that he has lost his ability to disobey and stand up for what

Emerson, S Views Of Beliefs In Emerson And Emerson s Thoughts
1.According to Emerson, the genius idea, is the idea that an individual can speak their minds. As it
states, To believe your own thought, to believe that what is true for you in our private heart is true
for all men, that is genius (Emerson 266). The individuals, who withstand from the lies and

Romantic Love Is Not Insane

Romantic attraction feels rather insane when it happens; from personal experience, I had to
physically stop and ask myself, WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOU, ALEX?! What is going on
inside my head? People are creatures, enormous idiotic animals. You, me, them, everyone; we are
all slaves to the chemicals of our cerebrum and when we fall in love, it is magical but strangely
predictable. Clearly, we make our own decisions, yet, attraction, desire and love are driven by
our biological agenda: to locate a good genetic match, reproduce and raise our young; it is what
we are programmed to do. In the modern era, there are more social limitations; as a result, the
mind is forced to manage our feelings backstage, making less than impressive progress in regard

Spatial Dynamic Optimization Of Water Use And Management...
Chapter Three: A Bi level Hydroeconomic Model of Spatial Dynamic Optimization of Water Use
and Management Behavior in Utah: A Case Study of Cache Valley
Abstract
This study employs spatial dynamic optimization and bi level programming techniques to analyze
water use behavior in the Cache Valley of Utah. Using a case study Logan Northwest Field canal
system, it explores the impact spatial location of heterogeneous actors has on decision making
hierarchy and outcomes. It also analyzes in particular, 1) the efficiency contribution of an
omniscient water master to overall water use efficiency of actors in the canal system, 2) the impact
of varying composition of the system s actors and their needs (agricultural to residential users ratio)
on the decisions and directives of the omniscient water master.
Key Words: Bi level Programming, Water Management, Spatial Dynamic Optimization
Introduction
The management and use of water in urban areas is a complex and dynamic issue. Water managers
must juggle the goals of regulating water demand, with securing and improving access to good
quality water for their jurisdiction areas. As demographic and hydroclimatic changes force a shift in
the focus of water management from supply expansion to improving management of existing water
supply systems (Harou et al, 2009), a holistic understanding of existing systems has become a
pertinent need. While past economic studies have produced useful results and emphases, it is

Essay about Romanticism
Romanticism,
Romanticism, in a way, was a reaction against rigid Classicism, Rationalism, and Deism of the
eighteenth century. Strongest in application between 1800 and 1850, the Romantic Movement
differed from country to country and from romanticist to romanticist. Because it emphasized change
it was an atmosphere in which events occurred and came to affect not only the way humans thought
and expressed them, but also the way they lived socially and politically (Abrams, M.H. Pg. 13).
Romanticism emphasized the individual, the subjective, the irrational, the imaginative, the personal,
the spontaneous, the emotional, the visionary, and the transcendental, (Thompson, E.P. Pg. 108

(Thompson, E.P. Pgs 33 34) The first phase of Romantic Movementwas in Germany, which was
marked by the innovations in both content and literary style and by a preoccupation with the
mystical, the subconscious, and the supernatural. (Abrams, M.H. Pg.68) The most momentous
national movement was Germany s. The Germans rebelled not only against Napoleonic rule, but
also against the century old upper hand of French civilization. They rebelled not only against the
French armies, but also against the philosophy of the Age of Enlightenment. The years of the
French Revolution and Napoleon were, for Germany, the year of it greatest Cultural Efflorescence.
(Abrams, M.H. Pg. 73) Germany became the most romantic of all countries, and German influence
spread throughout Europe.
In the nineteenth century, the Germans came to be widely regarded as intellectual leaders, like the
French had been a century before. Most of the German thought had come from nationalism in a
broad sense. A wealth of talents, including Friedrich Hölderlin, the early Johann Wolfgang von
Goethe, Jean Paul, Novalis, Ludwig Tieck, A.W. and Friedrich Schlegel, Wilhelm Heinrich
Wackenroder, and Friedrich Schelling belong to this first phase. In Revolutionary France, the
Vicomte de Chateabriande and Mme de Stael were the chief initiators of Romanticism, by virtue of

Proposal for Quality of Work Life
A STUDY ON QUALITY OF WORK LIFE IN MANUFACTURING SECTOR INTRODUCTION
Human resources play a very important role in success of an organization and thus, management of
human resource assumes importance. Many aspects affect the management of human resources.
One such aspect is Quality of Work Life (QWL). It is a philosophy, a set of principles, which holds
that people are the most important resource in the organization as they are trustworthy, responsible
and capable of making valuable contribution and they should be treated with dignity and respect .
The elements that are relevant to an individual s quality of work life include the task, the physical
work environment, social environment within the organization, Administrative system and... Show

In this context, subjective well being is seen as drawing upon both work and non work aspects
of life. However, more complex models of an individual s experience in the workplace often
appear to be set aside in an Endeavour to simplify the process of trying to measuring stress or
some similarly apparently discrete entity. It may be, however, that the consideration of the
bigger, more complex picture is essential, if targeted, effective action is to be taken to address
quality of working life or any of it s sub components in such a way as to produce real benefits, be
they for the individual or the organization. Whilst Quality of Life has been more widely studied
(4), Quality of working life, remains relatively unexplored and unexplained. A review of the
literature reveals relatively little on quality of working life. Where quality of working life has
been explored, writers differ in their views on its core constituents. It is argued that the whole is
greater than the sum of the parts as regards Quality of working Life, and, therefore, the failure to
attend to the bigger picture may lead to the failure of interventions which tackle only one aspect. A
clearer understanding of the inter relationship of the various facets of quality of working life offers
the opportunity for improved analysis of cause and effect in the workplace....This consideration of

Similarities Between Fahrenheit 451 And Captain Beatty
Ray Bradbury s Fahrenheit 451 is a dystopian science fiction novel about a society in which books
are outlawed. Central to the plot are the characters Montag and Captain Beatty. The two characters
have some similarities, but they posses some important differing qualities. Guy Montag and Captain
Beatty both have different views on books, society and the future. The first significant difference
between Guy Montagand Captain Beatty would be their view on society as a whole. The society of
Fahrenheit 451is characterized as being one void of free, deep thought, and patience. In Montag s
society, people are not troubled with the hard, sometimes unanswerable questions of life; they
simply want to be happy , they all live for pleasure [and] titulation (Bradbury 56). Both Montag
and Beatty recognize that this has turned society hollow and hedonistic, but respond to this
oppositely. Montag believes society to be worse off now than it was when people had free access to
knowledge, he acts on his... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Montag and Beatty both share an enjoyment of literature, Beatty is void of hope for the
future, believing that things will not get any better. This is proven in part three when Montag
makes the realization that [Beatty] wanted to die (116) Beatty was intelligent and perceptive
enough and well read enough to realize the sad state of his society, but feels that there is no hope
for a change and longed for death because of it. Montag, in contrast with Beatty, believes there is
hope for the future. Despite losing his life as he knew it, Montag still believed a better, more
literate future was worth fighting for. This is evident in that he chooses to join the homeless
intellectuals and help them to bring knowledge back into the world. If Montag shared the same
feeling of hopelessness that Beatty had, he would have given up after losing his house and his

Ethnical and religious cleavages in central and eastern Europe
Does Europe exist? Where should be the borders? Russia and Turkey had a big influence on
Europe as well. They dispatched parts of Europe for a long time. Of course the path dependency is
present in these regions. The process of European integration started later there.
European identity is difficult to describe. Distinction between east and west means post communism
(eastern).
Central Europe: Czechs feel like being central Europeans (since they don t want to be part of
eastern Europe.) idea of central Europe is based on Austrian Hungarian Empire + parts of
Germany eg Bavaria. The link is also the way of making decisions, working, doing things, tradition,

Family members in high positions cause whom else to trust. His wife was president of

boys who used to be in Dead Poets Society who chose to live transcentally. In his class he
encouraged the boys to do whatever they want to do, to believe in themselves, and not follow
the crowd. He told them to seize the day no matter what and just like Thoreau you should [l]ive
each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the
influences of each (Thoreau). As you live each day you should live it as simply as possible and

Rough Play As A Rough Play
Rough Play is known as One of The Most Difficult Behaviors

However, young children love this type of physical play. This type of play is usually strong, fierce,
and rugged. This play may be known as the big body play rugged and tumbled play, violent
manner, or play fighting. These forms of play can be seen with other children, they are called by

children do is roll back and forth, kick their legs, and wave their arms, sometimes when they are
alone or sometimes when they are beside another baby. Another thing that infants do is crawling on
top of each other. When infants get bigger, they use their bodies to stand up, push off, and move
themselves forward and backward. The toddlers yank each other firmly, and shove each other down.
When children reach the preschooler ages, the demonstrate physical ways of connecting and

Breast Cancer And Cancer Prevention
INTRODUCTION
Statistics indicate that breast cancer related complications are among the top causes of death
among women for over 23% of all women s deaths in the world (Donepudi et al., 2014). The great
cases of breast cancer are attributed to lack of information on and hard data on the disease,
especially on early diagnosis and treatment options. In America, breast cancer is among the top
causes of cancer related deaths, and the mortality rate is relatively high as compared to the
neighboring countries in the Americas (Lucian, 2013). Several organizations have been formed to
help in the efforts of reducing the high levels of breast cancer in the United States and fighting the
cancer epidemic. Among the top organizations in the forefront against the disease is the Breast
Cancer Action. The Breast Cancer Action is an organization whose primary goal is to provide the
public especially women with information regarding Breast cancer. The organization has embraced
several strategies that include educational and political strategies to fight the breast cancer
pandemic. The organization was founded 1990 by Elenore Pred, who was the founding president
and two of her friends Susan Claymon, and Linda Reyes. It is headquartered in San Francisco. The
Breast Cancer Action has earned a reputation for its approach to tackling breast cancer crisis, which
is based fighting cancer as a public health emergency, and not an individual crisis. Among the

The Impact Of Deforestation And Its Environmental Impact
Deforestation and its environmental impact
Deforestation is the action of clearing a wide area of trees. Twenty percent of the world s
rainforest has been destroyed because of deforestation. Forests cover about 30% of the planet.
Deforestation is clearing forests on a massive scale. National geographic stated that The world s
rainforest could completely vanish in a hundred years at the current rate of deforestation. (NG 2015)
The cause of deforestation is from number of things. Some are unintentional and some are
intentions clearings. The number one cause of deforestation is agriculture. Farmers buy forested
lands to clear and replant crops for harvest. Farmers also buy land for grazing animals. Cattle
ranching is the leading cause of deforestation in the Amazon. Many times deforestation is caused
from illegal farming and cutting. 49% of all deforestation is illegal (FT 2015) Another leading
cause for deforestation is logging. Logging other wise known as foresting. Other causes are
wildfires caused unintentionally by people and subsequent overgrazing.
Deforestation causes many large problems for the environment and society. The largest issue is the
destruction of habitats. The loss of habitat affects millions of species. Eighty percent of Earth s land
animals and plants live in forests. Deforestation is beginning to kill off species because many
species cannot survive the deforestation that destroys their homes. Deforesting ruins biodiversity

What is emo?
Emo stands for emotional or emotional hardcore. It was a style of rock music that has developed
since the late 80 s. It expresses feelings and emotions, which other genres of music didn t at that
time. It is mainly teenagers who are involved in the emo subculture.
Emo music is often dramatic and sad, and you might wonder why. It s made for the teenagers and
being a teenager is a time to start discovering one s identity. Some teens use the emo music to
explore their emotions and discovering themselves.
Emo is a subculture with its own kind of attitude and fashion. The emos are known to be sensi tive,

The punk music was at that time about the community and politics. Some punk bands like Rites of
Spring in 1984 began to sing about more emotions like ro mance, nostalgia and depression. The
new subgenre of music got the name emotional hardcore, emocore, later shortened to emo. A lot of
other bands followed in their footsteps. Bands like the Swing Kids from southern California
developed their own more aggressive and chaotic version emocore, known as screamo.
Around the early 90 s, record labels began to see the possible success with emo music. With the
growing music scene, the music became trend.
In the late 90 s, record labels wanted to profit from the emo bands, but the bands usually broke up
before they got mainstream. In 1997, Jimmy Eat World who was an unsigned band, got discovered
and signed and was one of the first emo bands to go mainstream.
As the emo music became mainstream, other bands picked up some of the sounds from the early
emo bands and the emo sound changed. The new sound was softer, but it is what we know as emo
today. Bands like My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco are great
examples of what we see as emo today.

Anglo Saxon society was decidedly patriarchal, but women were in some ways better off than
they would be in later times. A woman could own property in her own right. She could and did
rule a kingdom if her husband died. She could not be married without her consent and any
personal goods, including lands that she brought into a marriage remained her own property. If
she were injured or abused in her marriage her relatives were expected to look after her interests
(David Ross.) The women were responsible for grounding of grains, baking of bread, brewing of
beer, making of butter and cheese. During this era it was dangerous to travel; thus, most people
would travel only if it was unavoidable. If possible they would travel by water along the coast or
along the river. During the early Anglo Saxon period England was a very different place from
what it is today. The human population was very small. They grew their own food and made
their own clothes... The lord and kin had the strongest ties in the Anglo Saxon society. The ties of
loyalty were to the person of a lord. There was no real concept of patriotism or loyalty to a cause.
Kings could not, except in exceptional circumstances, make new laws. Their role instead was to
uphold and clarify previous custom. The first act of a conquering king was often to assure his
subjects that he would uphold their ancient privileges, laws, and customs (David Ross.) One of the
most famous kings during the

Comparison Of Safety Last ! And Sherlock Jr.
Safety Last! and Sherlock Jr.
Safety Last! (1923), directed by Fred C. Newmeyer and Sam Taylor, and Sherlock Jr. (1924),
directed by Buster Keaton, have parallels not only between their genres, but their approach to
comedy. They both contain a main character with a dream of becoming someone better. Both films
being comedies, means the men must face a few challenges and struggles before accomplishing
their goals. Sight gags portray these struggles in a very humorous way. Silent films could not
depend on dialogue to deliver all of the humorous elements, so drastically hilarious sight gags were
the films true success. Each film has talented actors who portray the roles successfully and
creatively. Neither of these films invented the idea of sight gags, but they built upon an already
successful foundation. In order to capture these fantastic stunts, the cameras are typically far back
from the action, allowing the character enough room to play out his scene. ... Show more content on

Rabbit Proof Fence Heroism Essay
The protagonists from Us Mob Walawurru and Rabbit Proof Fence are both heroic characters.
Discuss.
The protagonists from Us Mob Walawurru and Rabbit Proof Fence are both heroic characters;
however, they show their heroism to a different extent.
Both Ruby from Us Mob Walawurru and Molly from Rabbit Proof Fence are heroic partly because
of their outstanding courage. Ruby is an incredibly brave character and she displays her courage
consistently throughout the course of the novel. An example of her bravery is when she leaves
her country to go on a sports trip, although she is unsure of what lies ahead I thought about how
this was the first time I d be leaving our country. I started to worry for my family and home. Here,
the authors portray the bravery of this character, as she is not afraid to try something new.
Similarly, Molly is also a brave character,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ruby is especially caring towards others. An example of this is when she stands up for Ronald to
keep him out of trouble, the little fella s going rumma, crazy. He s either gonna cry or run. Here,
the authors show the amount of care Ruby shows towards others. Another example is when she
lets Maisey come joint first in the race with her, Maisey! I can t beat her. This highlights the
kind nature of Ruby, as she knows Maisey will be happy if she wins the race, and sacrifices her
first place position to make Maisey happy. Equally, Molly is also a kind and caring person. An
example of this is when she takes Grace and Daisey along when she escapes, even though it will
slow her down. In this example, the director emphasises how caring the protagonist is as she is
willing to increase the risk of being caught just to save others. In the book and the film, both
protagonists are portrayed to be incredibly kind and caring individuals. Surely, this leads to the
conclusion that both of these people should labelled

An estimated 1.6 million unduplicated persons use transitional housing or emergency shelters every year. Of these people, approximately 1/3 are members of households with children, a nine percent increase since 2007. A study done by the National Law Center on Homelessnessand Povertystated that approximately 3.5 million people, 1.35 million of them children, are likely to experience homelessness in a given year (National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty, 2007). Since 2007, the US Department of Housing and Urban Development has issued an Annual Homeless Assessment Report, which revealed the number of individuals and families that were homeless, both sheltered and unsheltered. It standardized the data collection processes and created more opportunities for government officials and service providers to remedy the problem of homelessness in the United ... The gender breakdown was comprised of 15 self identified females, 2 males, and 1 gender queer. The mean age was an average of 20 with an age range from 18 years to 22 years. A 2x2 within subjects design was used for the present study. The first independent variable, of Motherhood, has two levels. The first level is if the applicant was identified as a Mother, which is defined by having dependents in the home to claim on their W 2 forms as indicated on the resume. The way of identifying the resumes was done so that the letter would not correspond to a specific resume or level and create an extraneous variable. Underneath the name the word school was listed along with the school for that given level, either Harvard University for high prestige or California State University, Long Beach for low prestige. Harvard University was chosen to operationalize high prestige because as an Ivy League institution there comes a high reputation and prestige with the name. For the low prestige level, California State University, Long Beach (Cal State, Long Beach) was chosen because, in comparison to Harvard University, it is low in prestige. Cal State, Long Beach was chosen as an equal comparison instead of a community college because they are in two different states but both have given the student potential to receive a Bachelors of Arts/Science degree. • 4. Music Therapy And Its Effect On Children Music plays an important role in everyone s life and, although the majority of people nowadays have heard of music therapy, not many are exactly sure of what it is nor are they aware of its beneficial effects (Peters 2). Children, in particular, have shown significant improvement in their disabilities when subjected to musical therapy. Music therapist Ulla Holck s studies show that music therapycan meet the basic needs of children with special needs, such as behavioral problems, attention skills, social skills, emotional needs and intersubjective skills. In addition cognitive skills can be strengthened if the basic needs are fulfilled (45). Music therapy is a process in which music is utilized to meet or enhance the individual s mental and physical health. The introduction of music therapy has always brought many benefits, no matter if in general settings or in schools and families; it is documented to ameliorate the relationship between a child and the family, as well as aid children with disabilities, such as autism, and special needs. Because of the proven effectiveness of music therapy for children with disabilities and not, parents should be encouraged to make music apart of their children s lives. There is plenty of evidence that proves that music has been utilized in therapy and healing practices since ancient times. Among the earliest people to practice music therapy before it even became a profession were the shamans, who originated in the primitive civilizations ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Comparing Justice In Electra And Sophocles Sophocles s Electra focuses mainly on the justifications of some actions, Sophocles sees justice as the most important thing that leads to the actions of others. Herodotus is nearly the exact opposite. He seems to not see any importance with justice, within The Histories he shows that the most important thing when writing is showing what caused certain events to happen, as well as evidence to both sides of the story, allowing the reader to decide what really happened. Although these two texts and their authors seem to be completely different, they do share similarities. They both try to decide and show how and why things happened; the causation of events. In today s world, justice is defined simply as The process or result of using laws to fairly judge and punish crimes and criminals. However, Sophocles helps to show that justice, in the time of Electra, is constituted by anything that is deemed as honorable. At the beginning of the play, Orestes states, When I went to the oracle of Apollo, to discover how best to take revenge for my father revenge on his killers that is my right and due here s what Apollo said: Place not your trust in an army s sword or shield. Use cunning. Kill them yourself and justly so (4). In making this speech, Orestes shows how justice, in this case revenging someone s murder, is seen as a very honorable act in this time period. There are other examples of Sophocles view of justice within his play. The two main acts of justice are that Sophocles focus on are: the murder of King Agamemnon, by his wife Clytemnestra and her lover Aegisthus, the other, the main focus of the play, the murder of Clytemnestra and Aegisthus for murdering King Agamemnon. • 6. Contemporary Issues Of Hotel Management Essay BX772102 CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN HOTEL MANAGEMENT Hotel Brand Strategy Critique Article # 1 Sagar Sharma 1/2/2015 The critique of the article has been done to identify some assumptions that are being made by the authors, further challenging them and proving the point to be valid or not. Assumption 1. In the given article the authors have discussed about the effects of branding of a hotel on its existing and potential guests as well as the owners or management. In this assumption the authors strongly believe that the customer satisfaction is strongly being affected by the franchising strategy of the brand adopted by the franchisees. Evidence by the author Although the assumption made by the authors clearly says that franchising strategy of brand has negative effects on the customer satisfaction but he evidence provided by the author in support of the assumption partially agrees and partially disagrees with the assertion. According to a study conducted during the years 2000 to 2003 for two hotels (La Quinta Inn Suites and Westin Hotels) a decline of 2.6% in guest satisfaction was seen when La Quinta Inn Suites franchised 25.8% of its total hotels whereas on the other hand an increase of 6.4% in guest satisfaction was registered when Westin group franchised 9.6% of its properties. Challenging the assumption According to me the assumption made by the authors is absolutely valid. In the current scenario the guests have become more demanding and brand conscious. I ... • 9. Adlerian Theory In The Movie Antwone Fisher Upon watching the movie Antwone Fisher, I found that Psychodynamic theory and Adlerian theory would serve well to treating the movie s main character, Antwone. Antwone is an African American man who struggles with his emotionally unstable life. He joined the Navy after leaving Cleveland, but was plagued with anger and temperament issues which stem from his childhood. These issues, upon watching further into the movie, are associated with the emotional and physical abuse that was inflicted upon him via varying authoritarian figures from his foster family. These childhood issues have since caused Antwone to struggle finding a self image and identity that he can call his very own. Psychodynamic theory revolves around the perspective to attempt and gain an intuitive understanding of what transpires in the mind of an individual and how these thoughts ultimately drive the individual in an outward sense. Counselors who use this theory help the client to look into their personal relationships, the experiences due to their worldviews, and how their preferences affect their behaviors and personality. Antwone, upon being placed into therapy sessions was angry and clearly thought the course of action was a waste of time. To begin the process of conceptualizing Antwone s problems, a psychodynamic counselor might ask about the relationships Antwone had as a child. Davenport, in the movie, asks Antwone where he is from with Antwone s response being Under a rock. In the last of the three mandatory sessions, Antwone, once he begins to open up to Davenport, discloses that his father was shot to death a couple of months before he was born and his mother was in prison and had to give him up due to the circumstances. Antwone was then placed in a foster home with two other children, one older and one younger the older brother is half Caucasian and half African American. Upon first disclosure, Antwone mentions that his foster mother would beat him and his other African American brother. When talking about his relationships with his foster family, Antwone eventually discusses how his foster mother s cousin, Nadine, raped him when he was just six years old. The introductory citation by Canadian Politician Ron Johnson lays the foundation for this case assignment. A case assignment composed of proposals to numerous companies pertaining to their pricingstrategy. For products created by their individual organizations. Let s kickoff this case assignment by exploring possible strategies, for a company that recently developed a new 3D television. 3D television: A company has produced a state of the art 3D television that contains unique features, that is different from other 3D televisions currently in the market. This company acquired a patent on a new technology that doesn t involve the end user to put on 3D glasses to enjoy the effect and display of this contemporary television. It has been a medical problem for many years. In particularly Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) for it is the most frequently occurring and one of the most rapidly progressive in children neuromuscular disorders (MDA, 2015). DMD affects approximately 1 in 3600 live male births throughout the whole world (MDA, 2015). • 13. The Poetry Of Edgar Allan Poe When hearing the name Edgar Allan Poe, it is simple to know who is being talked about, the mostly grim, melancholy, and dark poet. Along with many other people who have been through rough times, Poe expresses his past experiences and pain through a work specific to him, short stories and poems. Edgar Allan Poe uses his life s story to write pieces that display the time period he lived in, the influences on his poetry, and solid topics that are critiqued. First off, Poe discreetly uses certain dialect in his work that brings attention to the time period he lived in. Due to Poe being born in Boston 19 January 1809 , he had more of what now seems to be older and formal dialect in his work (Kennedy page 734). Back then, a romantic and time consuming thought that was a love that the wingГЁd seraphs of Heaven Coveted where the bond between two people was seemingly unbreakable (Poe line 11). The use of the word wingГЁd implies that Poe lived in an earlier century due to the fact that no one today talks like that. Edgar Allan Poeuses many phrases to indicate what time period he lived in. When he died Sunday October 7 in 1849, it was still in the time period of formal and proper speech (Kennedy page 734). To be shut up in a sepulcher was the kind of thing Poe would reference in his work in one way or another, but this would not be said like that today. The people of this century would say phrases including six feet under , one foot in the grave , tombstone , etc. which is significantly less sophisticated than the phrases that were used during Poe s time. Next, Poe had a rough life that greatly influenced his writing. Edgar Allan Poe went through embrace and joy with people in which they loved with a love that was more than a love , for example, his fourteen year old first cousin, Virginia Clemm (Poe line 9) (Bleiler page 596). Such love led Poe to creating portions of his works based on this overwhelming feeling of excitement, sincerity, and loyalty. However, as it is well too known, not everything is picture perfect. Poe, much like everyone else, had many tragic heartaches. One of his most significant heartaches would be Virginia s death in 1847 where she died due to illness (Prida page 225). ... • 14. Selfishness Is Being Selfish A person who does a good deed for the sake of one s gratification, a person who puts personal obligations before others, and a person who lacks the value of human life, is a person whose forehead is stamped with a single word: selfish. Selfishness may present itself in times of danger, especially when the decision comes to saving oneself or saving another along the way. Twenty first century society dictates that when one is in a situation, such as being in a burning building, they are morally obligated to do what is seen as right. As the fire engulfs the building from all sides, deep red flames can be seen. The fire isn t only burning, but it s burning with such intensity like the fearsome fire breathing mythological creature, Chimera. The Chimera, a hybrid of a lion, goat, and snake, is viewed with fear or intrigue, similar to selfishness itself, so this begs the question; is selfishness ultimately immoral, or can it be ethical? In Examined Life, philosopher Slavoj Zizek discusses the trait that most human beings possess: being selfish. As the documentary begins, Zizek can be seen scouring a junkyard, disclosing his philosophy on ecology. As stated by Zizek, ecology addresses genuine problems that society is aware of but continues to turn a blind eye. Furthermore, Zizek dives into the misconception that people continue to make about waste and trash; people believe that waste and trash are one in the same, however, waste disappears, but trash doesn t. Things soon turned for the worse as an intercepted British letter told of more redcoat reinforcements were on the way. Arnold elected to postpone the attack until his backup, Colonel Montgomery, showed up. But the trail up to Quebec had not been very nice to Colonel Montgomery forces who showed up with very low morale and most importantly lower than expected numbers. Despite this fact, Arnold decided to move ahead with the attack anyways and on December the 31st, 1775 the battle ensued. The expedition eventually led to a bitter American defeat. The reason for me choosing these two is because they have a large amount of differences just from the surface alone, some of the main ones being that they have completely different size of followers. For Judaism, the size is in the millions while Heathenry is the opposite and falls below 500,000. Another major factor is that Judaism only has one Godversus how Heathenry has multiply as well as spirits. The main concepts that will be focused on Myths, Rituals, religious practitioners or specialists and the altered states of consciousness, as well as how they believe the world was created. The first one to be discussed is the major one first, Judaism which is located around the world but started off in cities such as Jerusalem. • 18. Mutjinga Myth Summary The story about Mutjinga, a woman of spiritual and asomatous power, is a tale that seeks to explain the relationships between men and women in early Australian societies, while also tying these motifs and themes into the greater collective Dreamtime cosmology of the Aboriginals. This story suggests that women and men did not hold tantamount positions within their early societies justifying the superiority of men, while also implying that there was a time when women had the upper hand, and may return to challenge male authority once again. To explain, the myth illustrates that in the Dreamtimeland of the Murinbata people, a place existed where an old womannamed Mutjinga, a woman of power, lived. Aboriginals believed that all the things in the world had both a palpable physical form as well as a spirit form, which was invisible. When living things passed away, it was regarded that their spirits went to a secret cave, of which Mutjinga was the caretaker; and only Mutjinga had the power to speak with these spirits. The tale insinuates, that women, such as Mutjinga, once had the power and authority over men, because they possessed abilities men did not have. As evidenced in The Man Eater: The Mutjinga Myth, Mutjinga could speak with the spirits. Because she had this power, she could do many things which men could not. Anyone can cultivate the proper leadership qualities. In order to excel in their leadership a good leader must possess qualities such as self awareness, courage, confidence, innovation, fairness, openness, and dedication among others. Odysseus in The Odyssey, and Samuel, Saul and Davidin the Books of Samuel, display these characters. However, at some occasions they fail to do so. He shows he is weak and not ready to lead. (1 Samuel 9:21). Saul even hides when he is supposed to show himself to the Israelites as the chosen King (1 Samuel 11: 22). Although Saul knows that he cannot lead, he has no choice, he has to follow the Lord s order. At last, God realizes that Saul was indeed not a leader type person and chooses another person. God must have known that people are not forced to be leaders, but they themselves should be aware of the ability to be leaders. Confidence is another trait a leader should possess. Both Odysseus in The Odyssey and David in the Books of Samuel demonstrate this quality. They have belief in their abilities to meet most challenges that come their way. Odysseus never believes a person initially, being it mortal or immortal. He always likes to be done in his way. Odysseus believes in himself rather than anybody else. He wants to figure what to do for himself and not someone else do it for him. For instance, he argues with Calypso and Ino because Odysseus did not believe them initially, but wanted things to be done his way (Book 5, line 180 line 370). Moreover, David, another God chosen King of Israelites, shows confidence when he tells Saul that though he (David) is young, he can fight the giant Philistine warrior, Goliath (1Samuel 17:32 37). However, David confidence is from the fact that God is on his side and will not let him down. Courage is also needed in a leadership. This quality is portrayed in The ... Three women that knew him the best narrate Lue Gim Gong s story from three distinct cultures and three distinct points of view. They include his mother Sum Jui, his teacher Fanny Burlingame, and a friend that he makes named Sheba. Their contrasting perspectives are carefully interwoven from chapter to chapter. She sees Lue as her creation; others see him as her pet. In fact, he is more independent than she can accept. Rudely rejecting the possibility of a positive influence from his own family, she says how she made him as much of an improved variety of Chinaman as his salmonberry, cherry currant, and tomato were of plants (McCunn, 154). Though her closeness to him it allows her to be offended by others racism, as she regards him as someone special rather than a typical Chinaman. After Fanny s death, he was barred from the church they had regularly worshipped in, on account of his color. Finally there is Sheba, Fanny s black servant whose father was murdered by the Ku Klux Klan shortly after winning his freedom from slavery. Sheba worked alongside Lue in the orange groves and probably understood him best. This is because Sheba s eyes were the least blinded by prejudice and ignorance. It is already hard enough for a hearing student to find his/her place in the classroom, but when you add being deaf to the list, a major challenge presents itself. This deaf student must work extra hard to keep up and be able to read the lips of his/her teachers and fellow peers, and learn to communicate. Even though accommodations are made and sometimes interpreters are given, it is hard for the student to feel welcome. If this student were to attend a deaf school, he/she would not have to work so hard and would find it much easier to communicate and socialize both of which are major focuses in a high school student s life. In Meagan McDonough s article Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children in Public Schools , she states that public schools might not be best for deaf students, but if they start out in a deaf school and eventually integrate into a hearing school, they will be better off and be able to keep up. You ll probably never come in under your monthly advertisingbudget again. That could be good or bad depending on how you look at it. 2. Over the past 30 years, technology has continued to develop into extremely complex systems capable of processing large amounts of data. It is now possible to represent not only numbers and letters, but also images, sounds and maps (Bernhardsen, 2002, p. 1). A Geographic Information System(GIS) is a computer system or application designed to perform a variety of operations based on geographic information. GIS is a tool used by many organisations, businesses, schools, governments and individuals searching for innovative ways to solve problems (Evans, 2014). Geographic Information Systems allow users to map, model, analyse and query data all within a single database according to their location (Evans, 2014). Information about the world is stored as a collection of layers; these layers can be linked together by a common locational component such as zip codes, latitude and longitude or road name. These geographic references allow individuals to locate features for analysis of trends and patterns (Evans, 2014). Dozens of layers can be added and organised to display a wide array of information on many subjects. Computer based GIS systems have knowingly been used since the late 1960 s (Coppock Rhind, 1997). Romantic Love Is Not Insane Latinum Oxygen Vanadium Etherium Romantic attraction feels rather insane when it happens; from personal experience, I had to physically stop and ask myself, WHAT IS HAPPENING TO YOU, ALEX?! What is going on inside my head? People are creatures, enormous idiotic animals. You, me, them, everyone; we are all slaves to the chemicals of our cerebrum and when we fall in love, it is magical but strangely predictable. Clearly, we make our own decisions, yet, attraction, desire and love are driven by our biological agenda: to locate a good genetic match, reproduce and raise our young; it is what we are programmed to do. In the modern era, there are more social limitations; as a result, the mind is forced to manage our feelings backstage, making less than impressive progress in regard to it. As indicated by natural anthropologist Helen Fisher, Romantic love is akin to an addiction. We are addicted to the feeling of love. (Fisher The Laws... ) Professor Moore a psychologists at Webster University has found that being flirtatious is more critical in finding a partner than just being attractive.
