The Notebook And The Last Song Essay
The famous Nicholas Sparks novels The Notebook and The Last Song are based on non fictional
events, while Rapunzel is a fictional short story fully based on fairytale. Although these are two
different genres, all three pieces share a common story line and even the same themes. The story
line, like any princess fairytale or romantic novel involves two people who fall in lovebut go
through many obstacles to be together. However, in the end, they live happily ever after. The two
themes that these three pieces of literature have in common are determination and fate. Throughout
this paper you will see this story line and those themes unfold.
We hear determination in our everyday lives, no matter our age nor our location. Although we may
hear this constantly, determination is something very hard to obtain. For these stories, the word
determination is nothing but known and relived constantly through the character s lives. In
addition to determination, we hear the word fate constantly. We ve heard this growing up through
watching any and every Disney movie out there, including Rapunzel . The definition, according
to Wikipedia, is as followed: be destined to happen, turn out, or act in a particular way. Everyone
is born with a fate, we are all here on this earth for a different purpose and fate. We just don t know
our fate as we go through life, just like these characters.
Rapunzel is a short story by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The plot of the story is the same as the

It is their job to build a strong foundation in order for their children to have a successful and
meaningful life. This foundation needs to be built starting at a young age, and needs to be kept
throughout the child s life. Morals are probably the most import part in an individual s life.
Morals define whats right and whats wrong and good from bad. Crime is often times associated
with a lack of morality. Juvenile develop as a result of broken homes, low self esteem and a lack
of parental love, When this part of the foundation is missing, a person can become corrupt. The
parents really need to focus in on teaching their children morals, because it will shape the
character of the individual and help him to become a better person. These morals will help
guide the child throughout their lifetime. The crime rate would be considerably lower in the
world if this crucial piece of the foundation is properly assembled. Parents can also influence the
religious beliefs of the child. This is also another very important thing for a child to understand
and learn. Religion may give the child someone or something to pray to when in a time of need. It
also will give the child a sense of hope and faith. Without hope and faith, the child may find
himself to be lost and confused, and religion will hopefully shed light on the right path and help to
make better life decisions. Good Parents should guide children in

Political Change In Syria
In 2011, a few years prior to the bombing of the Temple of Baalshamin, Syria officially became a
country plagued by continuous conflict. A civil uprising began against the government of the
country and started what is now known as the Syrian Civil War. Mass numbers of Syrian
individuals were displeased with what they felt was a corrupt political regime ruling their country
and sought to create a better way of life through their pro democracy protest. Unfortunately, as the
government fought back and Syrian citizens continued to protest, shots were fired and the country
collectively spiraled out of control leaving around eighty percent of the population in poverty by
2015. In an attempt to establish order amidst all the social turmoil,... Show more content on

Without knowing this, conflict and destruction will continue to occur in Syria, and for that matter the
rest of the world.
What then is currently being done to stop such atrocities from occurring? Specifically in the case
of the Temple of Baalshamin, many if not all of the preventative and preservation systems set in
place to save remnants of human history only look at solving the problem at a surface level. For
example, the Million Image Database Project and the New Palmyra Project both focus on
preserving the Temple of Baalshamin through the collection of pictures and using digital computer
renderings, in hopes that one day this site and potentially other sites could be rebuilt or forever
preserved through the internet. While important as a step towards reducing loss, neither of these
specific preservation examples seek to prevent such destruction from occurring in the first place. Be
that as it may, even if there were a hundred systems in place that specifically attempt to prevent such
instances of destruction from happening, it is highly likely they would focus only on alleviating
issues that are at the surface layer of the underlying issues in a society, such as relieving hunger,
poverty, and other forms of human distress. In order to truly prevent violent, heinous, and hateful
acts of destruction from happening, one must look at preventing the issue by resolving

Positive Reflection On Divorce
Linda is a 36 year old newly divorced woman. Her early childhood experiences include her parents
divorce. Due to her parents divorce and the following feelings of pressure to conform and agree to
each parent, Linda has developed strong beliefs about her life, particularly her marriage. These are
expressed through Linda s dislike of divorceand her desire to keep her children happy and
innocent, Linda feels that she has failed in both cases and feels guilty and responsible for failing .
However, Linda did admit that her mothers general disapproval and opinion that Linda was to
blame for the divorce may have influenced her thoughts. Due to the sudden divorced her
(ex)husband has imposed, Linda feels very confused and alone, and she has furthered that by
sending her children away and not clearing things with her husband. Linda also does not know how
to move forward in her life, and is hesitant to do anything if it may affect her children. As a result,
Linda is very confused and mildly frustrated with the situation. Linda recognises that her memories
and previous feelings about parents divorce may also be effecting her thoughts and feelings
currently.
In reviewing my practice, I can see that I used several skills very well, in particular the use of
empathetic silences and positive reflection.
An example of the positive reflection is when the client described how her mother was less
supportive and blamed the client for the divorce, in response I said:
On the other hand, at least, your father, it sounds like he was very positive and supportive of you,
like her would be there for you...? (17:58). Linda response was Yeah, he was pretty great, and we
just talked about the future, and what I was going to do with my kids . Later in the practice (7:08)
after the client expressed feelings of helplessness, I asked her As you said, you ve been through
something similar, did you pick up an activities that helped? in response she talked about drawing
and about her friends being supportive. I used empathetic silences regularly throughout the
practice, especially in the beginning of the video from 00:41 3:33 where I allowed the client to
talk introduce her original reason for coming, and again at 10:00 to 10:50,

Medieval Castle Research Paper
Castles were one of the greatest buildings ever created even to this day. These huge magnificent
creations have been around for centuries and are all around the world. Castles were made out of
many different materials in different places had very good protection systems and had many
different parts like a modern home. As well it had some castles that were so great that they are
famous to this day. Castles probably will and will forever be one of Earth s greatest features.

Defensive castles were something to fear and if they messed with the wrong on that it was their
funeral. These strongholds had moats, arrow slits, siege towers, battlements and some even had
cannons. They would have to have everything under the king or lords orders to keep everyone
safe. Sieges could last for weeks and even months, no food could reach the castle during this
time For instance, they used battlements which were at the top of the castle walls, but generally
they were cut out from walls allowing defenders attack while still being protected by the walls.

Media institutions are essentially profit driven
Evaluate how commercial pressures have had an impact on the products in your cross media study.
Support your answer with reference to a range of examples from three media platforms.
In this piece of writing I will evaluate the commercial pressures that are put on films for them to
make a profit. My case study involves the texts, Hunger, Shame and 12 Years a Slave.
Due to film making becoming more of a business than about the art, companies are not willing to
take as many risks as they do not want to lose money investing in an unknown film story when they
can easily release a known product that they know will make them money, therefore it is important
for independent films to make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Furthermore, the film had its presence online increased by gaining a 90% rating on the film
website Rotten Tomatoes. Finally the biggest E media factor that contributed to the popularity
of Hunger was the review aggregator website MetaCritic gave it an average review of 82 out of 100
based on 25 movie reviewers, this is one of the highest rating a film has been given on this
website and it no doubt gave the film a lot new viewers because of it.
When we look at the broadcasting of the film Shame we can see that the film was premiered at the
68th Venice Film Festivaland was shown at many other film festivals such as, the New York Film
Festival, the London Film Festival and the Vancouver Film Festival, were it gained a lot of free
advertising as again this film was highly acclaimed by many reviewers and critics, but mainly
the film gained a lot of press from the fact that Michael Fassbender won the best actor award at
the Venice Film Festival as well as being nominated for many other awards including a BAFTA
and a Golden Globe for Best Actor, this would have given the film more free press through these
events being shown on TV and programmes such as the BAFTAs which had 5,340,00

Oil Has Been Used By Domestic And Foreign Governments On...
CADET NAME_Clara Lund_________ SECTION/HOUR _4/D_____
BLOCK III ESSAY QUESTION CHOSEN : ___ #1___
BEGIN ESSAY BELOW:
Oil has been used by domestic and foreign governments in the development of the Middle East
both domestically and in foreign policy since 1940 by using it as a bartering item because it is
such a valid and precious resource that can fuel homes, towns, and countries. The Middle East has
had many ups and downs throughout its development as a country, but its abundant supply of oil
made it a country that outsiders wanted to either friend or control. The D Arcy Concession in the
early 1900 s were rights created for the people of the D Arcy, to search and dig for oil within Iran.

There was no competition to lower their asking price. Soon to follow in the mid 1970 s, was an oil
embargo. This embargo presented the first oil shock. Immediately OAPEC proclaimed the embargo.
Anwar el Sadat, the third president of Egypt played a role during this time. He reigned from 1970
until the early 1980 s. As a member of the free officers who overthrew King Farouk in an
Egyptian revolution during the 1950 s, Anwar el Sadat reinstituted a multiparty system creating a
domino effect leading to the October war. All Palestinian efforts were abandoned, and he was
opposed by PLO and the Muslim Brotherhood. This alienation also included him getting kicked
out of the Arab league which was in the early 1980 s. This then resulted in the United States
involvement in the October War. As retaliation to the OAPEC the United Stated decided to supply
those affected unjustly by this embargo with arms. The October War is also known as the Yom
Kippur war. The countries mainly involved at this time were Israel, Egypt and Syria, and Egypt
had an additional end goal to claim the Sinai Peninsula.
Though there were multiple conflicts in the fight to gain power of the oil in the Middle East this
helped to strengthen the Middle East. It turned their country from being seen as a stereotypical
dried up desert to being seen as a rich and prosperous advantage to those in alliance with it. Oil
provided the Middle East to have a voice in trading systems. Everyone needed oil

How Does Lee Present Scout s Relationship In To Kill A...
They are your competition, yet they support you. They are your enemy, yet when it comes down to
it you end up fighting side by side. They hate you, yet love you more than words could say. Sibling
relationships are among the most complicated and confusing things to understand. Complex sibling
relationships are seen everywhere, whether you are reading or watching televison. To Kill a
Mockingbird is just one example of literature that contains a siblingdynamic effecting the theme.
Harper Lee skillfully tells of the compelling relationship between Jem and Scout, as it unfolds and
contributes to the strong theme, change versus tradition.
Verbarendse 2
Throughout the publication Jem and Scout mature as people, adapt to changes around them, and
develop a close bond.
The theme, change versus tradition, is ever present throughout the storyline. It is first revealed as
Jem begins to grow up and doesn t have time for Scout. This is evident in the following quotation:
Jem was twelve. He was difficult to live with, inconsistent, moody. His appetite was appalling, and
he told me so many times to stop pestering him... (Lee 153) This causes tension between the two
and shows that change is beginning to take place, breaking up the traditional interactions between

Descent
The Most Beautiful Death

The movie won many awards including, the Van Gogh Award at the Amsterdam Film Festival and
Best Music and Dance at the Global Short Film Award. The film also won the Excellence film
award from Indie Fest.
The entire film is less than five minutes but it has so much content in it. I m usually not the kind of
person that watches live performances or goes to dance recitals. I have trouble understanding them

In front of the wall are three men with black trash bags over their faces. They are reaching out in
different directions and ripping open the bag. They pull themselves up off the floor and begin
their dance. It is beautiful and mesmerizing and I ve watched it several times. There are
moments when the camera goes into slow motion and we get a great scene of one of the three
men with his leg straight up in the air. After their dance the camera switches focus back to the
woman in a yellow dress from before. She moves as fluidly as water. Her movements are precise
and relaxing. She is making things that take lots of strength look like anyone is capable of doing
it. I could watch her dance for hours. Just as with the three men from before some of her
movements are caught in slow motion, at just the perfect time to see her body contort in different
ways. The film ends with the dying man and the woman in the yellow dress. He is still letting out
his substance from his body while he dies in her arms.
Along with the very powerful visuals from the dancers the music is strong and reflective. If I close
my eyes I can see the story laid out in front of me from the music alone. It has a haunting tone to it
that makes you wonder about your own life and what your memories would look like if someone

Many of us compare courts with punishment, but what if there was a court that did the opposite?
When I was starting my research on the different courts we have here in Florida, I came across
Drug Courts. The more I read up on drug courts, the more I became fascinated and intrigued. Drug
courts do not aim to PUNISH , but yet to provide treatment to drug abusers. This kind of court

Also because drug courts are 6 times more likely to keep the offender in the treatment program if
they need more help to get better .According to the National Association of Drug Professionals
statistics proved that 75 % of graduates become and remain arrest free for at least two years after
leaving the program. Another neat finding was that individuals that have attended drug court have
helped reduce the amount of crime by as much as 45% more than the common prison time
punishment. As per our text book researchers noticed that there was a 33% reduction in rearrests
rates for drug court graduates. According to New York times the annual average amount a
taxpayer pays to keep an inmate locked up can range anywhere between $31 to $60 thousand
dollars without drug court, as opposed to paying $2 to $5 thousand dollars by allowing these drug
abusers to go through the drug court system. So as you can see, drug courts are beneficial all
around. Drug courts saves time and money that could be used in more serious areas meanwhile

The Modern Gro SS Es Schauspielhaus
The Modern GroГџes Schauspielhaus
Styles of architectural design are always changing. As time progresses, new advancements are
being made to accommodate a mass society and create a utopian design that will provide for the
best possible living standards. The main qualities expressed in modern buildings are how they
strive to replicate the goals and ambitions of their architects and patrons in a way beneficial to
society as a whole. Modernism is a term that was invented in response to the architectural
movement starting around the early 20th century to explain the dramatic changes in both technology
and society. It was mainly in response to the industrial revolution which created urban cities
changing the way people lived and worked. Modern architecture began to experiment with more
modern concepts with buildings adoption more of a machine aesthetic by adding industrially
produced materials. The grand theater GroГџes Schauspielhaus utilizes the style of modernism to
create a building for the people incorporating new technologies to design a space befitting the
changing attitudes of early 20th century German society.
The building GroГџes Schauspielhaus was designed by Hans Poelzig, who had worked as an
architect, painter and set designer, in 1919 Berlin, Germany shortly after the first World War.

of womanhood. The only two female characters in a cast of thirty five include Queen Gertrudeand
Ophelia, both of whom die unfortunate deaths. The importance of womanhood and female
sexuality is shown through several literary techniques; though, most importantly, the characters
Queen Gertrude and Ophelia are both symbols for female sexuality. Both characters are developed
as negative and positive sides to womanhood through dialogue as other characters approach them,
their own actions, and most importantly, their individual deaths. Queen Gertrude is the mother to
Hamlet, widow to the late King, and new wife to King Claudius as shown within the first act of
Hamlet. Following her marriage to King Claudius, her relationship with her son Hamlet becomes
strained. Queen Gertrude symbolizes much of what is considered to be a negative aspect of
womanhood. To Hamlet, Queen Gertrude is a failure of a woman. Through his dialogue, it is
presented that Hamlet desires a woman and mother to be concerned for her family and place
tradition above all else. When Hamlet s mother makes a decision outside of that realm and marries
King Claudius, Hamlet strives to berate her for her choices. Through

Censorship in Public Schools Essay
because he thinks they might contain quot;obscenities or offensive sexual references quot; (Berger

A Vermont high school librarian is forced to resign because she fought the school board s decision
to remove Richard Price s The Wanderers, and to quot;restrict quot; the use of
Stephen King s Carrie and Patrick Mann s Dog Day Afternoon (Jones 33).
An Indiana school board takes action that leads to the burning of many copies of a textbook that
deals with drugs and the sexual behavior of teenagers (Berger 61).
These cases of censorship in public schools are not unusual and there is evidence that such
challenges are increasing (Woods 2). These challenges are actually typical of the ones being
leveled against school libraries today. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The courts have time and again ruled that the Constitution prohibits
Congress from censorship of any form.
These two opposing sides have butted heads again and again leaving behind landmark cases for
future legal actions. One of the most famous of those cases was Pico vs. Board of Education,
Island Trees Union Free School District No. 26, which was the first school library censorship case
to reach the Supreme Court (Jones 35). In March
1976, the Island Trees School Board in New York removed eleven books that they deemed quot;anti
American, anti Christian, anti Semitic, and just plain filthy quot; (Berger 59) from the high school
library shelves. Among these books were Slaughterhouse Five by
Kurt Vonnegut, A Hero Ain t Nothing but a Sandwich by Alice Childress, and Soul on Ice by
Eldridge Cleaver (Jones 37). The board felt that it had quot;a moral obligation to protect the children
in our schools from this moral danger quot; (Berger 60). Five students then sued the school board
on grounds that their decision violated their First Amendment rights.
The suit was passed around the courts until June 1982 when the Supreme Court took up the cause
and ruled that the school board would have to defend its removal of the books.
The Supreme Court decided that since the library is used voluntarily, they can choose books there
freely and that, as Justice Brennan stated, quot;the First Amendment rights of students may be

An Essay About Wiccan Religion
When one hears about Wicca they often immediately think of evil spell casting witches, or scenes
from a Harry Potter movie. There are many misconceptions about Wicca ranging from silly to
dangerous. Although Wicca is often misunderstood, it is a peaceful religion.
Wiccans believe a few different things. Like many other religions they do believe in one deity.
Many Wiccans believe in a Deity who is the source of the cosmos. The Wiccan names for this
Divine power include, but certainly aren t limited to: The One, The All, the Ultimate, Sacred, the
Great mystery, the Source, Creative or supreme being, the Life Force, and the All Encompassing
Unity. (Smith 18) Often also referred to as the Goddess or Earth Mother she is based in nature as
well as being supernatural. Their Deity is more abstract than a lot of religions and can vary
between each person and is cause for much debate in the Wiccan community. Their beliefs are much
less structured and does not have rules or commandments and is much more focused on the

In more religious areas many Wiccans keep their beliefs a secret, because of the long terrible
history of Wiccan persecution. On a smaller but still difficult level it is common for those that
practice Wicca to be ostracized from their families, particularly those that are religious in another
fashion. Additionally, they fear that people may want to use their beliefs and practice of magick
for their own gain. On the other hand, there are many Wiccans that are very vocal about their
religion to make it more common and accepted. They believe that acting as though they should
hide gives people more reason to be untrusting of Wiccans as a whole. Many speculate that Wicca
is the fastest growing religion today, but it is difficult to track because they do not have a major

Tupac Amaru Shakur s Change Essay
The cry of injustice has become louder and louder and those people who are knowledgeable
about their ancestral history, feel hopelessness in the midst of this unfortunate rebirth of the New
Jim Crow. Their hopelessness is further fed and satisfied by the powers that be who arrange for
African Americans to be unable to escape the extreme cycle of poverty forcing them to adapt the
best way they can to their current situation; whether that be murdering someone like yourself or
selling narcotics. Tupac Amaru Shakur, wrote the famous song Changes in 1992 but it was
released after he was murdered, in October 1998. Tupac exposes the reality of commonly ignored
societal ills such as racism, classism, and discrimination and establishes that unity is the only way
out. Through the use of juxtaposition, allusion and call to action, Tupac illustrates his thoughts on
racial desperation and its correlation to overarching racism during the period of social unrest in the
United States and the importance of establishing a united front to fight back. Although written
more than twenty four years ago, currently we are facing a heightened cultural climate in the
United States and the relevancy of Tupac s song Changes is more than necessary. Tupac has
become a spokesperson of not only his generation, but current American society. Tupac Amaru
Shakur was born on June 16, 1971 in East Harlem, New York, in the United States. Tupac was the
top rapper of his time, not only for his music, but also

Camera Angles In The Truman Show
Throughout the film The Truman Show, the director, Peter Weir, develops and communicates a
strong message that it s natural for viewers to be persuaded into believing things in media are
realistic, however viewers should more often critically analyze the world around them to
preserve accuracy of knowledge and content. This is due to the fact that the overarching power
of media tries to manipulate peoples opinions and emotions. First off, Camera angles are an
extremely significant part of how a character or scene is perceived. Media has the power to use
camera angles to decide how we view conflict in the movie. In the last few minutes of the film
when Kristoff is trying to stop Truman at sea, the true power of the media is shown as they use
camera angles to show the authority in the situation.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Okay he s making a left turn onto Lancaster square. Oh my Gosh something is wrong! Uh change
frequencies. This moment wakes up Truman and brings to his attention that media was so strong
they sheltered everything from his life and his life may be fake. He starts to become more aware
of the media s powerful control over him and capability to hide aspects of his life. Not just in The
Truman Show, but in reality, although we may think something is real it is good to question and
rethink judgements. For Truman, after getting the jest of his situation he seemed to be more
content with his life and realizes his true capability while seeing through the hoax of the media.
This part of the movie is a true turning point as it shows that media can be very persuasive over
Truman, but it is his critical judgement of situations involving media that can lead to the
betterment of his life. Not only is this theme and the power of media relevant in the film, but it can
be taken into our lives by questioning the world around us. It is always important when having a
conflict with media to ask yourself: is this real, and what is the media truly trying to accomplish

What Is Diversity In America Today
Diversity is common in America today, many people sharing a unique blend of many different

Essay on Satan in John Milton s Paradise Lost
Who is Satan?
Satan s definitions include the advocate of God, a personification of evil, the fallen angel, a spirit
created by God, and also the accuser. People see Satan differently, some know of his existence,
others think of him as just a myth, and there are those that just ignore him. John Milton s Paradise
Lost tells of Satan s banishment from Heaven and his gain of earth. He and his brigade have
plotted war against God and are now doomed to billow in the fiery pits of hell. Satan is a complex
character with many different qualities. God is a character who we, as Christians, know about but
do not completely understand. We also do not completely understand Satan. Some may think they

God throws Satan and his followers into hell for their defiance. Satan shows rebellion towards
God, this is the first rebellion there ever was. According to Webster s dictionary rebellion is
organized opposition to authority, a conflict in which one faction tries to take control from
another. I think rebellion also includes disobedience. John Carrey says that in the epic Satan
concedes his own criminality, and his own responsibility for his fall. He facilitates between
remorse and defiance. He confesses that his rebellion was completely unjustifiable, that he had
the same freewill and power to stand as all God s creatures, and that he therefore has nothing to
accuse but heavens free love dealt equally to all (134). Basically Satan did this to himself. We do
not really understand why Satan defied God and we probably would not understand.
Satan goes from the most beautiful to the ugliest because of his defiance. John Carrey speaks of
Milton s Satan saying Satan as archangel, before his fall, is never shown by Milton, but this stage
of his existence is often alluded to, as is the fact that some of his archangelic power powers
remain, though we cannot be quite sure which. Hence Satan, as a fictional character, gains a
hidden dimension and a past (133). We know Satan has a past, it is just not presented by Milton.
Satan once lived in a universe full of happiness, joy, and eternal glorification and was known in

Reflection Paper On Going Out Of Work
Summary*:
In this session, we discussed your feelings of helplessness and depression which stem from the
recent loss of your husband. You have stated how you do not wish to go out of the house but
believe it is good for you and how going out with friends does make you feel better; however, you
rarely want to. I liked your idea of going out of the house outside of work once a week. Also, you
believe exercise keeps you motivated and want to work out at least 15 minutes a day. Finally,
talking to your mother in law and sharing feelings with her would help you know there are people
that emphasize with you is a step you would feel would be beneficial. Our overall goal for these
actions is for your negative feelings to lessen. Does it sound reasonable to have you complete one
of these actions this week?
Goal and Potential Actions:
The client is struggling to deal with the semi recent loss of her husband who passed away in a
car crash. Ever since his loss, she has been struggling with depression and although she knows
there are people around her who care for her, she struggles believing it. Throughout, this session
the client discusses her complete lack of energy and how leaving the house to get up to go to work
is difficult enough and she never wants to spend time with her friends like she used to. Every little
thing she does is difficult, and she feels disconnected from the rest of the world. The client holds
the belief that no one truly understands her situation.

Pros And Cons Of Genetically Modified Farming
How is there enough food produced for all the people in the world? Genetically modified farming
plays a big role in food production because it s an easier way to produce food for people from all
around the world. Since the population increases so rapidly, genetically modified farming brings
the quickest way of producing enough foodwhich protects the environment. The environment s not
the only thing with benefits, an easier consumption of vaccines in genetically modified foods helps
people s health. While some people favor non genetically modified farming to prevent possible
health risks, genetically modified farming s essential to address the world s growing population, to
protect the environment, and to prevent large scale illness outbreaks.
Some people support non genetically modified farming because of health risks. The opposers of
genetically modified farming question the safety of genetically modified crops because some
believe testing hasn t been done (Dresser and Siegel). This causes problems for people who eat it
(Dresser and Siegel). Approving and testing genetically modified food has been done since most
people eat it today (Erdosh and Amidon). Health risks like allergic reactions and inflammation can
be caused by scientists insert new and different genes, like from peanuts or dairy, into genetically
modified foods (Dresser and Siegel). Allergic reactions that could cause inflammation are
uncommon because genetically modified foods include health benefits like

The Korean War
With the elimination of the Japanese threat by 1945, the demoralization of the Chinese Nationalist
Party (KMT) in 1949, and the conclusion of the Korean War by 1953, the Chinese Communist
Party (CCP) and the party s leader, Mao Zedong, internalized efforts and re established order

dead, starving, and impoverished. By 1979, Chinese statesman Deng Xiaoping emerged to become
China s undisputed leader after defeating Hua Guofeng, Mao s chosen successor. With his superior
political skills and decades of experience, Deng engineered vital economic, political, social reforms
that would help restore China from the amounting unrest Mao established between 1957 and 1976.
However, similar to Mao, Deng also confronted opposition and problematic events that tarnished his
legacy. Ultimately, not only did Mao s aspirations for China fail to completely coincide with reality,
but also the aftermath of his ideals produced unwarranted consequences. Consequently, by

Pamela Anderson Ad Analysis
The Non Profit Association People for the Ethnic Treatment of Animals, otherwise known as

of situation, many of its ads like the Last Longer ( Last Longer ), Veggie Love ( Veggie Love ) ,

PETA is trying to shine the light on the problems that animals suffer because of humans, the type of
attention that they get tends to be negative. Instead of getting the animalsthe help they need, their
ads get banned and deemed insulting and inappropriate. The Pamela Anderson Ad was said to be

Queen Elizabeth I Figurative Language
The 16th hundreds advanced the conflict between religions in Europe, due to acts like the
separation of England from the pope s jurisdiction. This lead to the war of England against the
Spanish Armada in 1588. Therefore, the English Queen, Elizabeth Tudor, composed the widely
acclaimed speech directed at the troops at Tilbury, augmenting the feelings of patriotism in the
soldier s hearts, creating a passionate fervor for their country before this alarming battle.
Additionally, to empathetically motivate the troops to defend England from invaders, Queen
Elizabeth I operate declarative syntax, diverse figurative language, and positive diction.
Initially, Queen Elizabeth I s declarative syntax makes her seem less imposing, regardless of her
title, and more sympathetic. For instance, instead of pressuring the people to follow her will,
such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. did when saying, Whenever racial discrimination exists it is a
tragic expression of man s spiritual degeneracy and moral bankruptcy. Therefore, it must be
removed not merely because it is diplomatically expedient, but because it is morally compelling ,
the Queen uses declarative sentences that just persuade people to do what she wants, defend the
country. Similarly, the Queen of England utilizes long descriptive sentences such as, I know I
have the body, but of a weak and feeble woman; but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of
a king of England too, and think foul scorn that Parma or Spain, or any

The Cost Of Health Care
The cost of health explains almost half of the budgets of the state from financing the Medicaid
program to providing health care for the employees of the state and other less qualified
population like the prisoners (Vanderbeaux, 2014). In America, thousands upon thousands of
decisions concerning health care are made by State legislatures every year (Vanderbeaux, 2014).
Some of those decisions involve how best to provide appropriate care more efficiently, and
deciding on what age group of patients needs to be immunized (Vanderbeaux, 2014). Other
decisions include the ability to give license to health professionals, facilities, and the ability to
accept or refuse the proposals that will help to keep the population healthy. The State
legislatures have deliberated on at least three thousand bills of which more than five hundred of
those bills have been approved and signed into law. In the year 2014 alone, almost one thousand
two hundred bills have been deliberated on and so far two hundred and thirty five of those bills
have been accepted and signed into law as of January 2015. Financing The Veterans health care

Vincristine
This is a mitotic inhibitor that acts by binding to the tubulin dimmers, thus blocking the assembly of

the rapidly dividing cells thus inhibiting both cancerous cells and the bone marrow (Graf, 1996).
Daunorubicin
Daunorubicin is an anti tumour drug (anthrocycline), which is originated from streptomyes

It mechanism of action involves the intercalation of DNA, thus inhibiting macromolecular

Conflict In Sundiata
Conflicts are sometimes destructive, but perhaps they teach a lesson. They are a source of
quarreling, ridicule, and sometimes motivation to reflect on oneself. Conflict in one s life is also
a source of personal growth and learning. Every conflict in life, no matter how small or seemingly
insignificant, shapes a person s character. In the Mali epic Sundiata, the main character, Sundiata,
experiences many conflicts in his life. The conflicts with his family, his physical body, and himself

Family relationships can have the greatest impact one s life. Family can encourage, but they can
also criticize and be judgmental. Judgments and attitudes expressed towards a person can either
motivate them or demolish their self esteem. From the moment Sundiata was born, every step of
the way at every major developmental milestone, NarГ© Maghan s first wife constantly
ridiculed Sundiata and his mother for his lack of abilities, looks, and overall development. She
even called him a ` lion that crawls on the ground` (129). This mocking continued for years. The
acidulous remarks must have made him self conscious in some way, which might have
encouraged him to walk. Not only were the over wives derisive, but also Sundiata s own mother

selfishness and showing no interest in walking (132). When Sundiata offered to get her leaves or
even the entire tree, then asked for the iron bar, one can infer that a change in his character
occurred either from feeling ashamed he let down his mother or from his mother nagging him to
walk. Either way, the relationships with his family and their bullying caused him to make the
decision to walk, which was a massive leap forward in his development as a character. It meant he

Early and Present Leadership of the Democratic Republic of...
As the topic suggests, my paper will be based on the early and present Leadership of the
Democratic Republic of Congo. This paper will be based on the effect these regimes had on the
social and economic standard of Congo. That is the focus will be on a timeline basis; how things
evolved from the colonial era of Congo, to the post colonial era and to the status quo.
My reason for choosing these topic is, Congo can be considered as developing state or under
developed state depends on what your personal view of the criteria s that qualifies a state as a
developing state or an underdeveloped state; unlike its western counterpart: example the United
States, Great Britain and European states. Now the question is; could the under development of
Congo be as a result in the poor leadership Congo have had in time past? Is Congo in the right part
to archiving infrastructural development and increasing the social economic status? Can the
present leaders do anything different to expedite development? Or are they moving at a good
pace? These and more are questions that arises from a topic like this.
By the end of this research paper, all the questions asked in the previous paragraphs will be

Duties and Responsibilities of a Business Manager
Introduction
The duties and responsibilities of today s business manager cover both internal supervision and
appropriate response to the external business environment (Frenz 2012). When internal change is
called for, he must manage that change. External response is elicited by trends and innovations in
the outside business world. When internal controls and resources merge or respond to external
trends and opportunities, strategic management is set in operation. The manager constructs plans
accordingly and guides the entire organization through the needed strategic changes. These changes
in company strategy must be infused or reflected in its mission statement, the traditional SWOTT
analysis and strategic choices. The mission statement expresses the core culture and direction of the
company. The SWOTT analysis embodies the company s internal and external capabilities in
meeting and responding to internal and external stimuli and charting its direction as well as its
future. And strategic choices are the important decisions made by its top management executives.
These incur substantial company resources and exact long term consequences, which are difficult
to change in case of poor outcomes. Strategic management enables him and other managers to plan
ahead and make high quality strategic choices for eventual or unforeseen unique or risky future
situations. But strategic management can also fail or disappoint if the plan miscarries or does not
turn out as planned (Frenz).

People Corrupt Power In George Orwell s Animal Farm And...
William Gaddis once said Power doesn t corrupt people, People corrupt power In Animal Farm
and Mouseland both of the animals who have the power take over and create corrupt and unequal
societies. This causes the societies to fall under the rules of greedy and selfish leaders. The authors
of Animal Farm and Mouseland use the narrative techniques of characterization and conflict to
illustrate messages about how power can destroy societies and take away the equality in the society.
First, in Animal Farm and Mouseland the authors use characterization to show how power can
destroy societies and can take away the equality that is in the society. For example, in Animal
Farm, George Orwell uses the pigs as a way to show the different levels of importance. It shows
how the other animals are always below the pigs. On pages 35 and 36 it states You do not
imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us
actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is
to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this had been proven by science, comrades) contain
substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. Orwell
uses the words absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig making it seem the most important
to the pigs and no other animals. This means that the pigs started to take the things they wanted and
decided they were the ones who had all of the power. This shows that the power they created could
give them more equal rights than the others. In a similar ways Tommy Douglasuses the cats to
show how the other animals are below them and the cats are the ones who have power. In
paragraph 3 of Mouseland it states A government made up of big, fat, black cats. Douglas states
fat, black, cats. characterizing the cats are lazy and useless. This means that in Mouseland there
was a society run by animals who didn t do what they needed and they were lazy. This shows that
just because of the way the cats are characterized they aren t good leaders and they have the
power. This shows that in Animal Farm and Mouseland the people in power were characterized as
greedy and selfish, but came off to the

differentiate instruction to meet my student s needs. Every student learns the same things, but in
different ways. Thus, I had to present the same task in different ways at the different levels so
that my English Language Learner will understand the materials and learn. While tutoring my
student Eh Kaw Soe I mostly touch on reading aloud, writing short sentences, short and long
vowel, vocabulary and math. Also, I taught a different topic every Thursday. Moreover, before
moving to the next topic, I reviewed the previous topic to make my student improved his
metacognition about the topic and use his higher level of thinking skills. For example, every
Thursday I write vocabulary words on the flash cards and go over before reading aloud and after
reading to make sure the student understands the words that are used in the book. Moreover, I

The Effect Of Concentration On Enzymatic Activity Of...
Effects of Concentration on Enzymatic Activity of Salivary Amylase
Rose Cruz
Arapahoe Community College
The purpose of this lab was to see if there was a relationship in the amount of concentration of
salivary amylase to the amount of time it took to break down starch. To determine if varying
concentrations affected the reaction time of the breakdown of starch, we used 4 different dilutions of
salivary amylase and used 2 controls (positive/negative). Amylase is an enzyme responsible for
breaking down starch into sugars. It is hypothesized that a lower concentration of amylase would
cause the breakdown of starch to take a longer period of time or a slower reaction rate as opposed
to a higher concentration of amylase. The results of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the concentration of the reactant (substrate) changes and is increased while the enzyme
concentration stays the same, the higher the concentration, the lower the reaction rate will be for
the enzyme to break down the increased amount of reactant (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity,
n.d.). The same applies for if the concentration of enzyme changes and is increased while other
factors stay the same. The higher the concentration of enzyme, the higher the reaction rate will be
as the enzyme breaks down the reactant. In this experiment concentration affects the enzymatic
activity increasing or decreasing the amount of concentration of amylase in a solution (Factors
affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). If there is more concentration of enzyme there are more active
sites available for a reaction to occur (Phenix, n.d.). To see the reaction and breakdown of starch
we used Lugol s Iodine Reagent since it turns black in the presence of starch (Bauer and Norman,
2015, p. 92). We placed mixtures of the amylase and starch solutions in each of the wells
containing Lugol s Iodine at 30 second intervals. Depending on what solution was used and how the
amylase broke down the starch, the color change was noted over time. Due to the information about
how concentration affects the reaction rate of an enzyme and substrate, we figured that a lower
concentration of amylase would cause a slower reaction rate meaning that with a

Essay on The Other Side of Racism
The Other Side of Racism
When most people think of racism or supremacy, the images that come to their mind are white
power organizations that undermine blacks and other minorities. Groups such as the Knights of the
Ku Klux Klan, Skinheads and the White Nationalist Party may be some that come to mind.
However, many people are not aware of other racist organizations and powerful leaders that
influence people other than whites. A prime example of this is Louis Farrakahn, perhaps one of
world s premier black leaders, who condones racism against whites and people of different
religions. The image of an African American promoting racism among whites is not what society
understands as a typical form of racism. Despite this, Louis Farrakahn has ... Show more content on

With this, Louis X made one of his first and memorable lash outs. Malcolm shall not

Upon the death of Elijah Muhammad, the NOI was faced with appointing a new leader. Wallace

Unhappily, Louis formed his own group based upon the separatist teachings of Wallace s father
Elijah Muhammad. He traveled extensively in Africa and the Middle East in hopes of gaining

Diversity In Literature
On October 18 I attended Dr. Ramona s star lecture Justice for All. Dr. Ramona discussed how
justice plays a role in children and young adult literature. She shows how important it is to not
only show differsity in books but also how important it is to make sure that everyone can read
and has access to books. She spoke on how importance of main characters that have similar
backgrounds am you, but also to be able to see people with different backgrounds doing the same
everyday activities as you.
In this paper, I will argue that having different cultures represented in children s books is an
important part of children s literature. I will argue this by showing how it influences our views, and

Being A Teen Mother Made Me
In life you may one day be faced with a situation that does not go as planned. Discovering I was
going to be a teen mother made me put things into prospective. Moving out of state did not go as
I anticipated. In hopes to acquire a place of our own, my boyfriend searched for a better job
position than he had. He had applied in many places and heard back from many potential
employers. My boyfriend had received an opportunity to get hired for a position that payed well
over what he had anticipated. The only problem was that we lived in California and the positon
he was offered was in Tennessee. His father lived in Tennessee so he agreed to let us stay with
him. When my boyfriend and I found out we were expecting a baby, we were very alarmed, but
bursting with joy. Abortion was not an option so we both agreed we were going to have the baby.
We were eighteen years old and had been living with his motherand sister. He worked a temporary
minimum wagejob for a temporary employment agency, and I was in school trying to obtain my
GED. In hopes of obtaining a place of our own, my boyfriend searched for a better employment
opportunity. He searched and searched applying to many places whether it was in person or
online. After a week or so after submitting applications he began to hear back from potential
employers. I think he applied to well over thirty places. He went to several job interviews but most
of them were temporary, or seasonal. None of them offered health insurance and

which is literally appealing. Los Santos, the name of fantasized city which may captivate anyone,
the city full of celebrities, now striving in a time of economic question mark. This game surpasses
the preceding version of Grand Theft Auto revealed nearly 7 years back. This has been the best
fantasy game created till date (up to my knowledge at least). Grand Theft Auto V confidently
challenges other games such as The Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite, being doubtless, it wins the
competition with some fight given by The Last of Us. It couldn t be superior than Grand Theft Auto
V though. This game s fabricated world looks spectacular express your gratitude to the Grand Theft

Tiziano Titian Research Paper
Titian (Tiziano Vecellio) was born in Pieve di Cadore, a small town at the foot of the Dolomites
on the Venetian side of the Alps. The Vecellio s had been based in Cadore since the 14th century.
Titian s father, Gregorio, was a military man. His older brother Francesco was also a painter.
There is still no documentary evidence of Titian s exact date of birth, but contemporary sources
and his early stylistic development suggest that he was born around 1490. Titian was a painter
who painted famous paintings of religious beliefs such as Sacred and Profane Love and Venus of
Urbino which were lost in fire but are safe on the internet. Titian trained under two other seminal
Venetian artists, Giovanni Bellini (active by 1459, died 1516) and... Show more content on

This mythology inspired work was just one of several commissioned by Alfonso I d Este, duke
of Ferrara. Titian managed to cultivate a broad range of royal patrons during his career,
including King Philip II of Spain and Holy Roman Emperor Charles V. Titian s Venetian home
was a mecca for many of the community s artistic types. He had an especially close friendship
with writer Pietro Aretino. Aretino is said to have helped Titian get some of his commissions.
Sculptor and architect Jacopo Sansovino was another frequent visitor. Over the years, Titian
created portraits of leading figures of the day. He painted two works featuring Pope Paul III
between 1545 and 46, and spent six months living at the Vatican while making these paintings. In
1548, he traveled to the court of Charles V, where he painted his portrait as well. In his later
career, Titian focused more on religious and mythological works. For Spain s Philip II, he painted
Venus and Adonis (c. 1554), a piece inspired by Ovid s Metamorphoses that shows the goddess
Venus trying in vain to hold on to her beloved Adonis. Titian again explored his fascination with
the Roman goddess of love in Venus and the Lute Player

Designing A Graphic Organizer That May Provide An Overview...
In researching and finding information to develop a graphic organizer that could provide an
overview of various types of assessments was insightful. Reading assessments are often
mandated by a school district or state to determine where student are academically. In the case
of reading test, the data received is supposed to give the assessor and idea of defects and growth
of the reader. But is the information received from just one assessment tool giving an accurate
and complete picture of reading skills. Assessments may determine if a student is reading with
fluency, can comprehend what they have read, are able to decode words, and so on. Because of
the variety of assessments it was difficult to narrow the field and select just five. Familiarity with
the assessments assisted in my selection. The final five selected were; 1. Collection Portfolio
Assessment, 2.Miscue Analysis, 3.Running Record, 4. Criterion Referenced Tests and 5. Each tool
assesses reading in a variety of ways. The data they provide can determine the direction of current
and future reading instruction. In researching portfolio I learned that there were various format and
purposes. Portfolios can be the process oriented or product oriented. The formats I investigated
were collection, display and teacher/student portfolios. I selected Collection Portfolio to compare
with the other assessments tools. Again I selected this format because I was familiar with it. Even
with that I learned that there was

In The Heat Of The Night Analysis
In this paper, I will be explaining my thoughts on the Cavell arguments on classical and modernist
films about movies black and white in comparison to the movies in color, with the reference to
Sunset Boulevard (1950) and In the Heat of the Night (1967).
Cavell beliefs in movies black and white is that you pay attention to the details of the film, which
include the storylines, and the content of what it is in the frame, while movies in color can be
distracting; it is considered appealing and attractive, but it can take away from the subject matter of
the story. Cavell s states film has been moving into the modernist environment inhabited for
generations by the other major arts (Cavell 60); he continues to say that each arts among, had ...

Take for example the in the movie Sunset Boulevard (1950); the Norma Desmond s character
(Gloria Swanson), was portrayed a very rich woman who starred in a lot of silent movies back in
her adult life. Upon showing the inside view of her mansion, it was lacking the essence of
opulence one would expect, due to the movie being in black and white; the descriptions of her
wealth and possessions made by William Holden s character (Joe Gills) in my perspective did
not do as much justice as it would have been if it was screened in color. Even though, traditional
movies move with times (Cavell 61), the same can be achieved in movies in color; take for
example the movie secret garden (1949), this movie started off with gloomy and similar effect
as the Sunset Boulevard (1950); however, at the end color was thrown in to lay emphasis on
what the main idea of the movie was about the (garden). Gardens are expected to be beautiful and
make one feel at ease; my observation between both movies is that one is dark and was meant to
end that way in the mystery which it did, while the other started off pained and ended in joy
because the garden technically coming to life in full

The Hiring Of General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick
The hiring of General Hugh Judson Kilpatrick was the turning point in U.S. history during the Civil
War because of his negative demeanor, participation in irresponsible activities, political ambition,
exceptional ability to lead Soldiers, and unethical military tactics. Sherman would utilize these
elements during the Savannah Campaign to create a psychological advantage that would ensure his
victory. Major General William Tecumseh Sherman
began a historical campaign through Savannah
Georgia, eventually called Sherman s March to the Sea during the winter of 1864. General
Sherman chose an aggressive, reckless and politically motivated Soldier with a propensity for
embellishment known as Hugh Judson Kilpatrick. Chosen to lead General Sherman s Calvary
division, which consisted of First and Second Brigade, Kilpatrick would become one of the most
notorious and iconic figures in the American Civil War. 3
Hugh Judson Kilpatrick was born on a farm January 14, 1836, in Wantage Township, near
Deckertown New Jersey. Kilpatrick was the youngest of four siblings birthed into a military
family. His father Colonel Simon Kilpatrick was very influential and instrumental in being a
catalyst in Kilpatrick s quest to become an Armed Forces Service Member. Kilpatrick grew up in a
privileged environment and matured with an outlook of the world that was different from his
siblings because of his admiration of his father. As a child, he would imagine he was Charles the

Business Communication M1
M1 Business Communication
INTRODUCTION
In P1 I talked about types of communications used by Asda and these are Verbal, written, on screen.
In this task I am going to show you the advantages and disadvantages of each type of
communication referring it to my chosen company and that is Asda.
ADVANTAGES OF VERBAL/ORAL
Oral communication or speech is often the preferred medium to exchange information in in informal
situations since it provides a number of immediate benefits when attempting to pitch proposals and
ideas.
* It s easier to communicate verbally than any other way because you get to understand every detail
that is being spoken by the other person. In Asda customers communicate with the staff members
this is an advantage ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
* Advantage of written communication is that there is a lesser chance for the message to be
misunderstood, e.g. if Asda wants to explain something or give instruction in the letter there will be
lesser chance for the message to be misunderstood because there will be instruction and the letter
will be written properly.
* Written communication is good for complicated and vital instructions, which can be given in a
precise and uniform manner.
* It assists in proper delegation of responsibilities. While in case of oral communication, it is
impossible to fix and delegate responsibilities on the grounds of speech as it can be taken back by
the speaker or he may refuse to acknowledge.
DISADVANTAGES OF WRITTEN
* The disadvantage of this is that written communication does not save upon the costs. It costs huge
in terms of stationery and the manpower employed in writing/typing and making the leaflets.
* The disadvantage of written is for example if Asda sends letter, memos or emails people may not
always read them.
* Another disadvantage of written communication is that it does not answer questions and there is
no immediate feedback. So therefore if Asda sends Letter they cannot have immediate feedback
because it

  • 3. The Notebook And The Last Song Essay The famous Nicholas Sparks novels The Notebook and The Last Song are based on non fictional events, while Rapunzel is a fictional short story fully based on fairytale. Although these are two different genres, all three pieces share a common story line and even the same themes. The story line, like any princess fairytale or romantic novel involves two people who fall in lovebut go through many obstacles to be together. However, in the end, they live happily ever after. The two themes that these three pieces of literature have in common are determination and fate. Throughout this paper you will see this story line and those themes unfold. We hear determination in our everyday lives, no matter our age nor our location. Although we may hear this constantly, determination is something very hard to obtain. For these stories, the word determination is nothing but known and relived constantly through the character s lives. In addition to determination, we hear the word fate constantly. We ve heard this growing up through watching any and every Disney movie out there, including Rapunzel . The definition, according to Wikipedia, is as followed: be destined to happen, turn out, or act in a particular way. Everyone is born with a fate, we are all here on this earth for a different purpose and fate. We just don t know our fate as we go through life, just like these characters. Rapunzel is a short story by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm. The plot of the story is the same as the Disney ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is their job to build a strong foundation in order for their children to have a successful and meaningful life. This foundation needs to be built starting at a young age, and needs to be kept throughout the child s life. Morals are probably the most import part in an individual s life. Morals define whats right and whats wrong and good from bad. Crime is often times associated with a lack of morality. Juvenile develop as a result of broken homes, low self esteem and a lack of parental love, When this part of the foundation is missing, a person can become corrupt. The parents really need to focus in on teaching their children morals, because it will shape the character of the individual and help him to become a better person. These morals will help guide the child throughout their lifetime. The crime rate would be considerably lower in the world if this crucial piece of the foundation is properly assembled. Parents can also influence the religious beliefs of the child. This is also another very important thing for a child to understand and learn. Religion may give the child someone or something to pray to when in a time of need. It also will give the child a sense of hope and faith. Without hope and faith, the child may find himself to be lost and confused, and religion will hopefully shed light on the right path and help to make better life decisions. • 5. Political Change In Syria In 2011, a few years prior to the bombing of the Temple of Baalshamin, Syria officially became a country plagued by continuous conflict. A civil uprising began against the government of the country and started what is now known as the Syrian Civil War. Mass numbers of Syrian individuals were displeased with what they felt was a corrupt political regime ruling their country and sought to create a better way of life through their pro democracy protest. Unfortunately, as the government fought back and Syrian citizens continued to protest, shots were fired and the country collectively spiraled out of control leaving around eighty percent of the population in poverty by 2015. In an attempt to establish order amidst all the social turmoil,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Without knowing this, conflict and destruction will continue to occur in Syria, and for that matter the rest of the world. What then is currently being done to stop such atrocities from occurring? Specifically in the case of the Temple of Baalshamin, many if not all of the preventative and preservation systems set in place to save remnants of human history only look at solving the problem at a surface level. For example, the Million Image Database Project and the New Palmyra Project both focus on preserving the Temple of Baalshamin through the collection of pictures and using digital computer renderings, in hopes that one day this site and potentially other sites could be rebuilt or forever preserved through the internet. While important as a step towards reducing loss, neither of these specific preservation examples seek to prevent such destruction from occurring in the first place. Be that as it may, even if there were a hundred systems in place that specifically attempt to prevent such instances of destruction from happening, it is highly likely they would focus only on alleviating issues that are at the surface layer of the underlying issues in a society, such as relieving hunger, poverty, and other forms of human distress. In order to truly prevent violent, heinous, and hateful acts of destruction from happening, one must look at preventing the issue by resolving ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Positive Reflection On Divorce Linda is a 36 year old newly divorced woman. Her early childhood experiences include her parents divorce. Due to her parents divorce and the following feelings of pressure to conform and agree to each parent, Linda has developed strong beliefs about her life, particularly her marriage. These are expressed through Linda s dislike of divorceand her desire to keep her children happy and innocent, Linda feels that she has failed in both cases and feels guilty and responsible for failing . However, Linda did admit that her mothers general disapproval and opinion that Linda was to blame for the divorce may have influenced her thoughts. Due to the sudden divorced her (ex)husband has imposed, Linda feels very confused and alone, and she has furthered that by sending her children away and not clearing things with her husband. Linda also does not know how to move forward in her life, and is hesitant to do anything if it may affect her children. As a result, Linda is very confused and mildly frustrated with the situation. Linda recognises that her memories and previous feelings about parents divorce may also be effecting her thoughts and feelings currently. In reviewing my practice, I can see that I used several skills very well, in particular the use of empathetic silences and positive reflection. An example of the positive reflection is when the client described how her mother was less supportive and blamed the client for the divorce, in response I said: On the other hand, at least, your father, it sounds like he was very positive and supportive of you, like her would be there for you...? (17:58). Linda response was Yeah, he was pretty great, and we just talked about the future, and what I was going to do with my kids . Later in the practice (7:08) after the client expressed feelings of helplessness, I asked her As you said, you ve been through something similar, did you pick up an activities that helped? in response she talked about drawing and about her friends being supportive. I used empathetic silences regularly throughout the practice, especially in the beginning of the video from 00:41 3:33 where I allowed the client to talk introduce her original reason for coming, and again at 10:00 to 10:50, ... In this piece of writing I will evaluate the commercial pressures that are put on films for them to make a profit. My case study involves the texts, Hunger, Shame and 12 Years a Slave. The Middle East has had many ups and downs throughout its development as a country, but its abundant supply of oil made it a country that outsiders wanted to either friend or control. Immediately OAPEC proclaimed the embargo. Anwar el Sadat, the third president of Egypt played a role during this time. He reigned from 1970 until the early 1980 s. As a member of the free officers who overthrew King Farouk in an Egyptian revolution during the 1950 s, Anwar el Sadat reinstituted a multiparty system creating a domino effect leading to the October war. All Palestinian efforts were abandoned, and he was opposed by PLO and the Muslim Brotherhood. This alienation also included him getting kicked out of the Arab league which was in the early 1980 s. This then resulted in the United States involvement in the October War. As retaliation to the OAPEC the United Stated decided to supply those affected unjustly by this embargo with arms. The October War is also known as the Yom Kippur war. The countries mainly involved at this time were Israel, Egypt and Syria, and Egypt had an additional end goal to claim the Sinai Peninsula. Though there were multiple conflicts in the fight to gain power of the oil in the Middle East this helped to strengthen the Middle East. It turned their country from being seen as a stereotypical dried up desert to being seen as a rich and prosperous advantage to those in alliance with it. As time progresses, new advancements are being made to accommodate a mass society and create a utopian design that will provide for the best possible living standards. The main qualities expressed in modern buildings are how they strive to replicate the goals and ambitions of their architects and patrons in a way beneficial to society as a whole. Modernism is a term that was invented in response to the architectural movement starting around the early 20th century to explain the dramatic changes in both technology and society. It was mainly in response to the industrial revolution which created urban cities changing the way people lived and worked. • 21. Female Sexuality Throughout Shakespeare s Hamlet Hamlet, a tragic play written by Shakespeare in the 1600s, portrays the struggle of young Hamlet in the face of avenging his father s death. While major themes throughout this tragedy include death, loss, madness, revenge, and morality, another important theme to include in discussion is the theme of womanhood. The only two female characters in a cast of thirty five include Queen Gertrudeand Ophelia, both of whom die unfortunate deaths. The importance of womanhood and female sexuality is shown through several literary techniques; though, most importantly, the characters Queen Gertrude and Ophelia are both symbols for female sexuality. Both characters are developed as negative and positive sides to womanhood through dialogue as other characters approach them, their own actions, and most importantly, their individual deaths. Queen Gertrude is the mother to Hamlet, widow to the late King, and new wife to King Claudius as shown within the first act of Hamlet. Following her marriage to King Claudius, her relationship with her son Hamlet becomes strained. Queen Gertrude symbolizes much of what is considered to be a negative aspect of womanhood. To Hamlet, Queen Gertrude is a failure of a woman. Through his dialogue, it is presented that Hamlet desires a woman and mother to be concerned for her family and place tradition above all else. When Hamlet s mother makes a decision outside of that realm and marries King Claudius, Hamlet strives to berate her for her choices. Through ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One of the most famous of those cases was Pico vs. Board of Education, Island Trees Union Free School District No. 26, which was the first school library censorship case to reach the Supreme Court (Jones 35). In March 1976, the Island Trees School Board in New York removed eleven books that they deemed quot;anti American, anti Christian, anti Semitic, and just plain filthy quot; (Berger 59) from the high school library shelves. The suit was passed around the courts until June 1982 when the Supreme Court took up the cause and ruled that the school board would have to defend its removal of the books. Satan shows rebellion towards God, this is the first rebellion there ever was. According to Webster s dictionary rebellion is organized opposition to authority, a conflict in which one faction tries to take control from another. I think rebellion also includes disobedience. John Carrey says that in the epic Satan concedes his own criminality, and his own responsibility for his fall. He facilitates between remorse and defiance. He confesses that his rebellion was completely unjustifiable, that he had the same freewill and power to stand as all God s creatures, and that he therefore has nothing to accuse but heavens free love dealt equally to all (134). Basically Satan did this to himself. We do not really understand why Satan defied God and we probably would not understand. Satan goes from the most beautiful to the ugliest because of his defiance. John Carrey speaks of Milton s Satan saying Satan as archangel, before his fall, is never shown by Milton, but this stage of his existence is often alluded to, as is the fact that some of his archangelic power powers remain, though we cannot be quite sure which. Although the description of the play may make it seem like a heavy handed drama, the play is actually filled with some comical moments. However for the play to work, the audience must be laughing with the characters, not at them. • 41. Conflict In Sundiata Conflicts are sometimes destructive, but perhaps they teach a lesson. They are a source of quarreling, ridicule, and sometimes motivation to reflect on oneself. Conflict in one s life is also a source of personal growth and learning. Every conflict in life, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, shapes a person s character. In the Mali epic Sundiata, the main character, Sundiata, experiences many conflicts in his life. The conflicts with his family, his physical body, and himself help to transform his character from a boy with few abilities to a capable young man. Physical disabilities can be crippling. Some disabilities can be overcome, but no matter what effect they leave physically, they have lasting effects on character. Sundiata... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Family relationships can have the greatest impact one s life. Family can encourage, but they can also criticize and be judgmental. Judgments and attitudes expressed towards a person can either motivate them or demolish their self esteem. From the moment Sundiata was born, every step of the way at every major developmental milestone, NarГ© Maghan s first wife constantly ridiculed Sundiata and his mother for his lack of abilities, looks, and overall development. She even called him a ` lion that crawls on the ground` (129). This mocking continued for years. The acidulous remarks must have made him self conscious in some way, which might have encouraged him to walk. Not only were the over wives derisive, but also Sundiata s own mother was cynical in her attitude towards him. Sassouma mocked Sogolon for not having a son that could get leaves from a tree for her, Sogolon hit him with a wooden board, fed up with his selfishness and showing no interest in walking (132). When Sundiata offered to get her leaves or even the entire tree, then asked for the iron bar, one can infer that a change in his character occurred either from feeling ashamed he let down his mother or from his mother nagging him to walk. Either way, the relationships with his family and their bullying caused him to make the decision to walk, which was a massive leap forward in his development as a character. It meant he finally showed a desire to walk, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This paper will be based on the effect these regimes had on the social and economic standard of Congo. That is the focus will be on a timeline basis; how things evolved from the colonial era of Congo, to the post colonial era and to the status quo. My reason for choosing these topic is, Congo can be considered as developing state or under developed state depends on what your personal view of the criteria s that qualifies a state as a developing state or an underdeveloped state; unlike its western counterpart: example the United States, Great Britain and European states. Now the question is; could the under development of Congo be as a result in the poor leadership Congo have had in time past? Is Congo in the right part to archiving infrastructural development and increasing the social economic status? Can the present leaders do anything different to expedite development? Or are they moving at a good pace? These and more are questions that arises from a topic like this. • 43. Duties and Responsibilities of a Business Manager Introduction The duties and responsibilities of today s business manager cover both internal supervision and appropriate response to the external business environment (Frenz 2012). When internal change is called for, he must manage that change. External response is elicited by trends and innovations in the outside business world. When internal controls and resources merge or respond to external trends and opportunities, strategic management is set in operation. The manager constructs plans accordingly and guides the entire organization through the needed strategic changes. These changes in company strategy must be infused or reflected in its mission statement, the traditional SWOTT analysis and strategic choices. The mission statement expresses the core culture and direction of the company. The SWOTT analysis embodies the company s internal and external capabilities in meeting and responding to internal and external stimuli and charting its direction as well as its future. And strategic choices are the important decisions made by its top management executives. These incur substantial company resources and exact long term consequences, which are difficult to change in case of poor outcomes. Strategic management enables him and other managers to plan ahead and make high quality strategic choices for eventual or unforeseen unique or risky future situations. But strategic management can also fail or disappoint if the plan miscarries or does not turn out as planned (Frenz). ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

William Gaddis once said Power doesn t corrupt people, People corrupt power In Animal Farm and Mouseland both of the animals who have the power take over and create corrupt and unequal societies. This causes the societies to fall under the rules of greedy and selfish leaders. The authors of Animal Farm and Mouseland use the narrative techniques of characterization and conflict to illustrate messages about how power can destroy societies and take away the equality in the society. First, in Animal Farm and Mouseland the authors use characterization to show how power can destroy societies and can take away the equality that is in the society. For example, in Animal Farm, George Orwell uses the pigs as a way to show the different levels of importance. It shows how the other animals are always below the pigs. On pages 35 and 36 it states You do not imagine, I hope, that we pigs are doing this in a spirit of selfishness and privilege? Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself. Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (this had been proven by science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig. We pigs are brainworkers. Orwell uses the words absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig making it seem the most important to the pigs and no other animals. This means that the pigs started to take the things they wanted and decided they were the ones who had all of the power. This shows that the power they created could give them more equal rights than the others. In a similar ways Tommy Douglasuses the cats to show how the other animals are below them and the cats are the ones who have power. In paragraph 3 of Mouseland it states A government made up of big, fat, black cats. Douglas states fat, black, cats. characterizing the cats are lazy and useless. This means that in Mouseland there was a society run by animals who didn t do what they needed and they were lazy. This shows that just because of the way the cats are characterized they aren t good leaders and they have the power. This shows that in Animal Farm and Mouseland the people in power were characterized as greedy and selfish, but came off to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Effects of Concentration on Enzymatic Activity of Salivary Amylase Rose Cruz Arapahoe Community College The purpose of this lab was to see if there was a relationship in the amount of concentration of salivary amylase to the amount of time it took to break down starch. To determine if varying concentrations affected the reaction time of the breakdown of starch, we used 4 different dilutions of salivary amylase and used 2 controls (positive/negative). Amylase is an enzyme responsible for breaking down starch into sugars. It is hypothesized that a lower concentration of amylase would cause the breakdown of starch to take a longer period of time or a slower reaction rate as opposed to a higher concentration of amylase. The results of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the concentration of the reactant (substrate) changes and is increased while the enzyme concentration stays the same, the higher the concentration, the lower the reaction rate will be for the enzyme to break down the increased amount of reactant (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). The same applies for if the concentration of enzyme changes and is increased while other factors stay the same. The higher the concentration of enzyme, the higher the reaction rate will be as the enzyme breaks down the reactant. In this experiment concentration affects the enzymatic activity increasing or decreasing the amount of concentration of amylase in a solution (Factors affecting Enzyme Activity, n.d.). If there is more concentration of enzyme there are more active sites available for a reaction to occur (Phenix, n.d.). To see the reaction and breakdown of starch we used Lugol s Iodine Reagent since it turns black in the presence of starch (Bauer and Norman, 2015, p. 92). We placed mixtures of the amylase and starch solutions in each of the wells containing Lugol s Iodine at 30 second intervals. Depending on what solution was used and how the amylase broke down the starch, the color change was noted over time. Due to the information about how concentration affects the reaction rate of an enzyme and substrate, we figured that a lower concentration of amylase would cause a slower reaction rate meaning that with a ... But is the information received from just one assessment tool giving an accurate and complete picture of reading skills. Even though, traditional movies move with times (Cavell 61), the same can be achieved in movies in color; take for example the movie secret garden (1949), this movie started off with gloomy and similar effect as the Sunset Boulevard (1950); however, at the end color was thrown in to lay emphasis on what the main idea of the movie was about the (garden).
