2. • The cod is undeniably the "king" in Portuguese kitchen.
At Christmas is not an exception, with several choices of
menus in Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
• However this is not the only one to be
consumed, octopus and roasted meats abound all over
the country.
3. • The octopus is preferred in this region, but also
accompanies the cod. For dessert exist, the scrambled
milk or wine vermicelli and the traditional French toast.
4. • The menu is similar to the Eve of Minho. At Christmas
lunch consumed the meat, like turkey, pig, lamb and
pork.
5. • In the Beiras Christmas Eve they consume cod and goat.
• Desserts are traditionally french toast, the dreams, cake
and donut’s knee and the crooked cake.
• As sobremesas são as tradicionais rabanadas, os
sonhos, as filhós do joelho e o bolo torto.
6. • In Alentejo nowadays at Christmas Eve they eat cod.
• At Christmas Day they eat turkey and Alentejo’s
sausages.
7. • In the Algarve at Christmas Eve they eat rooster and / or
cod.
• Christmas Day they eat turkey.
• The desserts are “empanadilhas” the corn pone, the
traditional French toast and “filhós”.
8. • In the Açores the food is different from the Christmas traditions
we have on the continent. Chicken is the most chosen as well
as the suckling pig and the cow.
• Desserts are traditionally the french toast, dry cakes and
sweet rice.
9. • At Christmas Eve they eat kebabs, and at Christmas Day
the menu consists in pork and chicken soup.
• The desserts are cakes and liqueurs, as the traditional
honey cake of Madeira, and nut cake or pumpkin.
