Arrow Of God District 9 Comparison
Arrow of God written by Chinua Achebe is set in the 1920 s located in Nigeria. The book focuses on
the main character Ezeulu, the Igbo people s chief priest. Throughout the text we see Ezeulu have
conflicts with other tribes and with Christian missionaries, get sent to prison for denying a position
from the British, and Ezeulu having difficulties within his own tribe and their yam harvest (Achebe).
All the events that happened in Arrow of God lead to a much deeper meaning. If we take a look at a
look at the very complex film District 9 produced by Peter Jackson, we see a very different but similar
story. This is a mockumentary type film that explores the life of a MNU executive, an alien and his
son, the Nigerian gang, and a mercenary soldier employed by MNU (IMDb). In both stories, Arrow of
God and District 9, there are very blunt patterns of fiction, distinct archetypes, and prominent
philosophies used. The stories above are two different types of media, with similar content. Both book
and movie shows a tribe being pushed out of their home, in almost the same way. In both stories we
see patterns of fiction, which is when a reader is introduced to a character and some event or a
challenge occurs. In Arrow of God, Ezeulu is faced with a difficult decision towards the end of the
story. We call this The Choice. Ezeulu is faced with the decision to allow his tribe to participate in the
New Yam Feast, but instead tells them not to and famine strikes the

Eukaryotic Theory
Introns are nucleotide sequences universal amongst the Eukarya domain. Reconstructive models of
maximum parsimony and likelihood suggest introns were present in the last eukaryotic common
ancestor (LECA) (Csuros, 2005) and have since been gained, lost, and adapted to a multitude of
functions by separate lineages; any degree of intron conservation in modern eukaryotes is suggestive
of function, despite appearing to exist solely for removal. Although they possess many valuable roles
this does not explain the ubiquity of introns within eukaryotic genomes. To understand their
widespread presence despite their apparent deleterious effects it is necessary to discern the
evolutionary origins and conditions which impelled their prevalence. Structural ... Show more content

Per this theory, GpII invaded the eukaryotic lineage in its genesis via the mitochondrial endosymbiosis
and have been inserting themselves into coding genes continuously since; a mechanism consistent
with the high levels of GpII in some α proteobacteria (Robart Zimmerly, 2005) and the ability of yeast
mitochondrial GpII to insert themselves into double stranded genomic DNA (Zimmerly et al., 1996).
Symbiosis related selection pressure upon the α proteobacteria coupled with its bacterial nature of
jettisoning unwanted genes caused the exchange of GpII and cognate maturases (Schmitz Linneweber
et al., 2015) between the proto mitochondrion and the host cell which lacked the necessary control
mechanisms to restrict their spread. Hence, the proportion of introns in the LECA genome is
considerably greater than in contemporary eukaryotic lineages, excluding some vertebrates (Figure.1).
Comparison of nuclear encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal proteins and mitochondrial ribosomal proteins
showed that intron positions were conserved (Yoshihama et al., 2006), suggestive of common descent
between all eukaryotes. However, the presence of introns presents significant problems to the host.
Principally, random and aggressive insertion of foreign gene elements is likely to disrupt essential
coding sequences within the host genome; hence, only neutral intron insertions could persist.
Additionally, splicing reactions require the energetically expensive and complex machinery of the
spliceosome, comprised of over 150 proteins and 5 snRNA units (Wahl et al., 2009), any fault in
which would cause broad harm to the cell (Chorev Carmel,

Democracy Of The Islamic States ( Iran Vs Turkey
Democracy in the Islamic States (Iran Vs Turkey)
Democracy is a predominant authority regime that most countries both young and mature have
adopted based on its accrued benefits. Defining democracy can be a daunting task as several countries
may prefer to institute governing policies rather than adopt from other states (Rowley Smith, 2009).
The element of incorporating modified aspects of democracy is based on the difference in several
factors that may range from religion, culture, to political ambition. Islamic states are considered
complex as religion sharia laws play a prevailing role in the majority of the administration tasks
conducted by the state. As such, Islamic countries defined by a democratic administration will prefer
to integrate the alternative that will serve them best. This essay will evaluate two democratic regimes
that were established in the Middle East, and further, discuss the factors that lead to Iran s democratic
failure over Turkey s administration success.
Assessing Compatibility between democracy and Islam is a topic that numerous and prominent
individuals ranging from authors, religious leaders, political figures among other important
personalities have significantly contributed towards. As purported by Ahmad (2011), most
intellectuals, for instance, oriental scholars have over time represented Islamic governed states as
static with minimum development. The culmination of the Iranian revolution in 1979 sparked an
inquiry into the authoritarian

Cathy Whitman Research Paper
Cathy Freeman was born on February 16, 1973 in Mackay, QLD. (The Editors of Encyclopædia
Britannica, 2017). Cathy has achieved quite a lot in her life thus far, and is an inspirational figure for
many Indigenous, and Non Indigenous Australians. Her legacy is still recognised as a hero today.
Cathy s efforts have been rewarded all throughout her career. She was the first Aboriginal person to
win a Commonwealth Games gold medal. The first Aboriginal women to compete in the Olympic
Games, where she was recognised as Young Australian of the Year Award, at only age 17. After, in
1998 she was awarded Australian of the Year, being the first person to receive both awards. This was
because of Cathy s efforts where she won gold in both her 200 metre and 400 metre events in the 2000
Sydney Olympic Games. This was a very notable event, as Cathy went on to do a victory lap holding
both the Australian flag, as well as the native Aboriginal flag (Australian of the Year Awards, n.d.). ...

Freeman was a representation of the entire indigenous community. After the 2000 Olympic games, the
political issues affecting Indigenous people were brought to local and international media (SBS,

Generations . Cathy s reaction to this was shown in an interview to a British newspaper. She stated,
you have to understand that when you have a government that is so insensitive to the issues that are
close to people s hearts, that have affected so many lives for the worse, people are going to be really
angry and emotional (Peacock, M. 2000). Freeman s grandmother was a part of the stolen generations

The 70 s was a magical time, it was carefree and fun. Today I will be discussing in detail interviews I
had with Mark Nimphius and Melody Sorano. I first sat down with Mark Nimphius, my father after a
day of work. Then I interviewed my grandmother, Melody Sorano. They both spent a part of their
lives in the 70 s. Mark was born in the early 70 s on July 15. He lived with his four younger siblings,
his sister Alison, Elizabeth, his brothers Peter and Rudy, with his mom Sue Nimphius and his dad
Danny Nimphius. He started off each day by eating breakfast and going to school. After school he
would come home and babysit his younger siblings. His parents owned a restaurant, leaving him alone

laid back without as much crime. Everything is slowed down without a rush. I see happiness and joy. I

First True People To Discover America
The first true people to discover America were the many ancient nomads who crossed over the
Bearing land bridge connecting Siberia to Alaska some 20,000 years ago. They crossed and traveled
over 16,000 miles and inhabited North America. These were the first Native Americans . Fast forward
to about 500 years ago when the Spanish, the French, and the British first discovered the new land and
sent parties to explore it. But when they did they found many Native American tribes. Some were
treated fairly and made peace with, while others were slaughtered, sold into slavery, and some even
completely wiped out. In 1606, a joint stock company, known as the Virginia Company of London,
received a charter from King James The First of England for a

The United States Involvement During The Civil War
In the year of 1898, Spain declared war on the United States. The U.S. prime objective was for the
true Cuban independence. In pursuing such goal, the string of conflicts began with the inhumane
treatment of Cuban civilians in concentration camps by the Spanish, yellow journalism, and the
sinking of the U.S.S. Maine. The United States involvement in the war was a combination of all of
these factors; however, the most influential factor was the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine. The outrage of
American citizens advanced throughout the country. Ultimately, the firm perception of a deliberate
attack on the Maine pressured the United States into the war. Without a clear rationale, the American
public compelled the United States to avenge the Maine. After a short four month war, United States
won the war and emerged as a dominant force in the world.
The Spanish American war centers around many contributing elements. The first of these events was
the reconcentration policy. General Weyler was put in charge to stop Cuban rebels from expanding.
Such policy was intended to protect the noncombatant peasantry of the island, but his sole object was
to compel them to put themselves wholly in the power of the Spanish officials (White). The policy
forced all rural district civilians to move into cities and towns that were still under Weyler s control.
Moreover, Weyler concluded that this would prevent civilians from assisting rebels with information
or food. He enforced the concentration

Sunlight And Sunlight
Sunlight and shade can have effects on how the way turf grasses and weeds grow in lawns. Sunlight is
make ultraviolet radiation, and certain types of UV radiation can cause harm to turf gasses by.
Ultraviolet radiation all depends on what wavelengths the turf grasses can handle, the wavelengths
average from 400 280nm (Huylenbroeck and Bockstaele, 2001). Turf grasses start to form adaptations
to help survive in these conditions, by producing high amounts of chlorophyll, and having other
characteristics change to help better preform in the conditions. Shade is also a benefactor when it
comes to the turf grasses health. With excessive amounts of shade, objects are preventing the turf to
get the nutrients it needs from the sunlight to survive. Without the nutrients the turf will start to obtain
smaller roots, reduced shoots, and be introduced to diseases (Busey and Davis, 1991). Shade can also
be preventing water access to the turf grass. Types of grass are considered to be shade tolerable like
the fine fescues, and the rough bluegrass (Harper, 2013). The conditions of where turf grass is found
in order to maintain its health.
Sunlight includes ultraviolet radiation, which can harm turf grass. Ultraviolet radiation is split into
three different categories based on their wavelengths, UV A, UV B, and UV C. UV A has a wave
length of 400 315nm, and is the least harmful to turf grass. UV B has a wave length of 315 280nm,
and is responsible for getting through the ozone layer and is the most harmful UV light to turf grass.
UV C has a wavelength of 100 280nm, but this wavelength never reaches the earth. The smaller the
wavelength the more energy, and radiation with higher energy can penetrate deeper into the cells,
causing more damage (Huylenbroeck and Bockstaele, 2001). Over exposure to ultraviolet radiation
can be harmful to grasses and weeds, by damaging the grasses DNA, its proteins, lipids and
membranes. With over exposure to ultraviolet radiation, grasses can undergo mutations when
reproducing. Mutations are however, mostly negative, inhibiting vital cellular processes (DNA
transcription and replication) and resulting in disturbed cellular function, sometimes even cell death
(Busey and Davis, 1991).

Lebanon Memoir
The perspective which I upheld about my childhood city of Tripoli Lebanon remained unchanged for
the largest portion of my young life. Until a planned visit alongside my family in 2012. It would be
only my second visit since my initial immigration to Canada in 2006. During this presumably safe
trip, a vicious civil war occurred only two weeks into our vacation. Bombs went off, streaks of bullets
zoomed by, televisions and radios blared as the extended family anxiously listened to the news. But
that s not the Tripoli I know. The Tripoli I know is the thriving markets, historic sites, crashing blue
waves on the shore and close knit families and neighbourhoods. It s the same Tripoli which has shaped
my identity as I have been surrounded by a never ending learning experience ... Show more content on

The empirical evidence, suggests that immigrants improve labor market efficiency by providing
additional and complementary labor force. Labor market impact of immigration depends on the size
and geographic location of the immigrant population and on the skills they bring to the labor market
and how these skills compare with those of natives (Borjas, 2006:4). Broadly speaking, immigration is
not detrimental to the host labor market or economy. Most of the research on the labor market impact
of immigration has been concerned with the impact of immigration on wages rather than labor force
participation or unemployment rates.
Borjas (2003) noted that the impact of wages fluctuates from study to study but clusters around zero
which is contradictory with theoretical prediction of a downward pressure. Whether the reasons are
methodological issues (misspecification, endogeneity, and heterogeneity), market forces in specific
cases (area vs. factor proportion approach4) or institutional factors has not been established.
A meta analysis of international research (Longhi et at, 2004) identifies common findings that are also
likely to apply to Argentina. With an overall mean of 0.119 standard deviations on wages, the authors
highlight that the downward effects is larger in more rigid labor markets, that studies that do not

Research Paper On Indus River Valley Civilization
Ancient Egypt
Egyptian civilization began around 5000 BC and began to flourish in 3000 BC. Generally ancient
Egyptian history is seperated into three kingdoms the old kingdon, middle, and new kingdom. The old
kingdom (2686BC 2134BC) is the time period where most of what we think of ancient Egypt like the
pyramids (built as burial tombs for the pharoah). During that time Egyptians began to write texts,
study medicine, and find new battle tactics. The Egyptians were polytheists and had a pantheon of
gods, they believed the pharoah to be the god Horus and was thus treated as such.Egyptian society was
more egalitarian than other societies, women could own property and divorce their husbands. There
was not social mobility in Egyptian society, but It was not impossible to rise up the social ladder.
Indus river valley
The Indus river valley civilization located along the Indus river was first settled around 5000BC l. It
began to flurish in 3000 Bc, And In 2600 BC one of the best known cities of the Indus river valley

The Power Of Words In The Book Thief And Mein Kampf
Words are stronger than people think; they can put ideas in a person s head without much effort. The
power of words used in The Book Thief are different and similar to the power of words Hitler uses in
Mein Kampf. This theme is very important in many ways and it helps represent how people can be
very persuasive and vigorous. The power of words used in the Book Thief and in Mein Kampf can be
compared and contrasted revolving around certain topics, such as: the effects words have on others,
the way words are used to make it become persuasive, and who the words belong to. To start off, the
effects words have on others is a very imperative topic that helps compare and contrast the power of
words for The Book Thief and Mein Kampf. In The Book Thief, many characters can affect people s
lives by the use of words, for example, Rosa saying bad words has made Liesel to start saying the
same bad words as well. The power Rosa has over her daughter is like she is putting words in Liesel s
mouth. Saukerl, Liesel whispered. The vocabulary of her new home was catching on fast (Zusak 48).
This is similar to Mein Kampf when Hitler has affected many of the German s lives by convincing
them that Jews are the ominous people. Also, Hitler has impaired Jews lives a ton by creating an
evilness within them, changing their lives forever. Hitler jeopardized their life and put them in danger
and he put the Jews on different echelon than everyone else. On the other hand, their differences is

Despotism And The Framers Of The Constitution Dbq
King George the Third ruled England through despotism, and the Framers of the Constitution did not
want the same fate. In May of 1787, fifty five state delegates arranged a Constitutional Convention in
Philadelphia. The delegates argued a long list of reasons why the Articles of Confederation was not
working, thus creating a completely new outline of the government. The making of the Constitution
restrained one person or group from obtaining too much power and turning America into an autocracy.
The Framers introduced, federalism, separation of power, checks and balances, and the small and large
state compromise into the governing document. Federalism was a strong starting point to prevent
America from becoming a dictatorship. Different powers were given in James Madison s compound
government. The state and federal governments provide double security to the rights of the people in
America. (Doc. A) On one hand, the state government deals with smaller, more private situations, such
as establishing schools, holding elections, and setting up local governments. On the other hand, the
federal government deals with bigger issues, such as declaring war, making immigration laws, and
regulating trade. Even though both governments have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Battle On Pork Chop Hill
In many war stories officers are depicted as the, heroes of the battle based off of what was credited in
history. Some supported the war efforts exhausted in order to contain communism and others felt like
we were fighting an unjust war. The views of the Battle on Pork Chop Hill are no different. US forces
originally occupied a location originally known as Hill 355 in October of 1951. The tactics used to
capture and fight for this location were brutal, and exhausting for both sides. Various Infantry and
Artillery units fought to capture and defend this hill. Using Artillery during this war was key for U.S.
forces to capture and control Pork Chop Hill. Even though some would say it was a long drawn out
war, it shows the importance of artillery during battle because it provides soldiers basic leadership
skills, strengthens future generations of soldiers, and their basic military heritage and tactics. The
Battle on Pork Chop Hill is a significant event in the war because it lasted longer than any other single
battle during the Korean War. The Field Artillery was important to these battles and so were the effects
it had on these events. Many lives were lost as a result of fighting for this hill including Soldiers from
the NATO coalition forces, United States, North Korea, and China. Both sides had constructed such
great defensive tactics that if they tried to advance, it would result in loss of more men. Like many
wars, this battle focuses on political views. When

Deciding Between Olympics or Baseball for My Reasearch Paper
Deciding on a topic for my multi genre English project was harder than I had expected. Considering
how much information is available, different viewpoints of the issue and whether or not the subject
would be interesting enough made finalizing a topic difficult for me. I narrowed my choices down to
the Olympic Games or Major League Baseball, as I have a strong interest in sports, especially
baseball. While researching the Olympics, I was able to find plenty of information. When I first

From there, I simplified my searches into more narrow areas, such as the history of Major League
Baseball, steroids in the MLB and spring training for Major League Baseball. These subtopics gave
me fewer results, averaging in the 50 million range. With this many results for the narrowed topics,
taking different view points in each paper to the broader topic would be easy. Using the same database
as I did for the Olympics, EBSCO, I was able to find almost 26,000 results for Major League
Baseball. The subcategories resulted in fewer sources, around 1,000 each. Google Scholar also offered
a sufficient amount of sources, about 1 million for Major League Baseball in general, and around
40,000 for each narrowed search. Both the database results and Google Scholar results provided me
with more educated writings and information on Major League Baseball than that of Google. Again,
eBooks seemed to be the most logical answer to finding print sources on Major League Baseball. I
was able to find over 100 eBooks, on one site alone, with information regarding Major League
Baseball. The information I found on Major League Baseball was interesting and ample. Using the
sources I found while researching the topic would lead to a well written multi genre project. After
considering many topics for my multi genre English project, I was able to narrow it down to the

The Paucity of Water and its Effect on Gender Inequality in India
Based on a research survey conducted by the United Nations it reveals that, convenient access to water
and sanitation facilities increase privacy and reduce risk to women and girls of sexual harassment ...
(United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, 2005). Women living at the beginning
and middle points of the village have to trek for a considerable distance to reach the stream, when
compared to those who live at the bottom of the village near the stream. Women are the primary
stakeholders in the fight for clean water as sources such as many rivers and wells are contaminated as
they bear the burden and lack the freedoms that are necessary to ensure equality not inequality.
Women in India have limited access to resources and the ability to express in the public sphere, which
creates division of bearing the burden of responsibilities in the fight against the shortage of water. In
many rural areas in India, women have to walk a distance of about 2.5 kilometers to reach up to the
source of water. Women reach home carrying heavy pots, not to rest but to do other household chores
of cooking, cleaning, caring of children and looking after livestock, and in the evening fetching water.
Thus, a rural woman s life has become sheer drudgery for lack of water. There are many key causes of

Punishment In The Criminal Justice System
Punishment of individuals who act harmful to the society or environment has been practiced from time
immemorial. Criminals are subjected to undesirable outcome instructed by power. In the old and
middle ages, people who committed crimes were not only heavily punished but also were subjected to
harsh torture which in the present is insignificant since human civilization. Suspects who were not
necessarily criminals were cut off their limbs, drowned or burnt alive among others. Upon human
advancement, such modes of retribution are not present. With criminal justice system, several

The criminal law requires any defendant to be competent enough not only during the alleged offense
but also during his time of trial ( Competence to Stand Trial, n.d). Those with questionable
competency should undergo special treatment before they are tried. This operates to ensure ethics are
upheld, morals and justice of the defendant. Defendant s competence is measured in terms of their
rationalism and a competency evaluation. A rational defendant is one who understands the penalties,
courtroom proceedings and can consult with their lawyer or attorney. This requirement ensures a
defendant can participate in their own defense, hence a rational defendant should be subject to
standard sentencing procedures. It would be unconstitutional and immoral for an individual who lacks
the ability to understand, communicate and make rational decision to undergo standard procedures of
sentencing. Instead, incompetent defendants should be restrained in mental hospitals to serve their
punishment ( Competence to Stand Trial, n.d). The validity of competence should be measured by
conducting an assessment of the individual. If questionable, Competence Screening Test may be done
where the defendant fills in a form or a Competency Assessment Instrument for a face to face

For many people, noises in the environment may not be an annoyance, but for others who are noise
sensitive it can have several numbers of negative effects. There are some cause effects such as
difficulties concentrating in the classroom, at work, and/or personal life. It can also go as far as
causing internal organs damage. For example, the learning process of a child facing this disorder could
be more difficult, according to Tremmel a child s brain has to work overtime in a noisy classroom to
do its typical, but, very important job of distinguishing sounds whose subtle differences are the key to
success with language and reading . Even though, from early age people learn how to localize and
identify different sounds that will help them throughout their life, there are some people that suffer
from noise sensitivity and it can make their life a bit hard, because certain functions of their brain can
be affected. Noise Sensitivity (NS) is a physiological and psychological internal state in which the
noise level of certain things can be uncomfortable for an individual in doing their daily tasks. In the
research paper by Kliuchko, et al. (2016), he states that the human ear and brain come together to
adapt to the acoustic environment and that the auditory cortex can adapt in a way that can be tolerated
for each individual . In another study done by Dr. Schnupp s from the research team at the University
of Oxford has been found that the auditory neurons in the brain are

The castle has pointed tips and windows. It also has flying buttresses. Another thing it has are tall
spires and a gloomy look to it. Therefore, the castle would be classified as Gothic. Relating to the
castle where Fiona is captures, the textbook tells us that gargoyles are carved figures that serve as
waterspouts that drain water from the roof. Gargoyles also include other grotesque carvings associated
with Gothic. It says that flying buttresses are stone arches that carry most of the weight of the roof, so
the massive thick walls are not needed. Tall spires reached high in the sky to the heavens and over
took the landscape. The cathedral Notre Dame de Paris began in 1163. It took artisans centuries to
complete. (268). At Lord Farquaad and Fiona s wedding, there are big stained glass windows in the
background. The tips of the windows are pointed. The windows also have several designs on them.

Technology and Management Functions
Introduction
Information technology is transforming how business and government enterprises operate and, as a
result, how people work. Information is the critical raw material for decision making and the
foundation for producing products and providing services. People create information; people use
information; people control information. The growing economic importance of information in modern
society led sociologists such as Alvin Toffler and John Naisbitt to characterize our society as the
Information Age. In fact, more than half of today s workforce is employed in information related jobs,
compared to less than 20 percent 30 years ago. Most of those people spend a significant portion of

That s ok. I ll cope. But that means I try to do something... anything... to make them special and do

But not willingly, and I ll grumble while not doing it. Many relationships go through this same sort of
scenario at some point and how they weather it becomes the baseline for how that relationship
develops. We should force ourselves to take a step back and look at things in our hot headed moments
when arguments arise and attempt to apply empathy for an opposite point of view. Compromise is this
weird word with a bunch of taboo swirling around it. Inevitably, it gets lumped in with the bad factors
of a relationship, but it isn t as bad as it s painted half the time. The simple fact is that some
compromise is essential and regardless of your convictions, compromising with the one you love is
the proverbial honorable thing to do. Staying mindful of the reasons you are with your other in the
first place don t hurt either. So often we fall into the monotony of living and become complacent and
comfortable in our routines, sometimes taking for granted the person we re with. I m more than sure
that Perry has a different point of view. Either way however, we realized what was happening while it
was happening, and took from it rather than let it take away from us. A trait of our entire relationship

General Electric And Transformation Of Company
This case study follows General Electric, and the transformation that company made over two decades
of business. General Electric was founded in 1878 by Thomas Edison, and according to the case study,
[GE] grew from its early focus on the generation, distribution, and use of electric power to become, a
hundred years later, one of the world s leading diversified industrial companies (Wozny, 2005, p.1).
General Electric grew its name in business through their work in power generation, lighting, and
household appliances. The case study also mentions that General Electric worked with aircraft
engines, medical systems, and diesel motors. GE was a company that was constantly changing and
adapting. It was in the 1950s, that the company had delegated work to hundreds of managers for
different departments of the company. In 1973 a new CEO came up the ranks of the company, Reg
Jones inherited the company and started a complete reorganization. According to the case study, Reg
Jones started by
overlaying its 10 groups, 46 divisions, and 190 departments were 43 strategic business units designed
to support the strategic planning that was so central to GE s management process. Jones raised
strategic planning to an art form, and GE again became the benchmark for hundreds of companies that
imitated its SBU based structure and its sophisticated planning processes. Soon, however, Jones was
unable to keep up with reviewing and approving the massive volumes of information generated by 43

Meditation Argumentative Essay
The many improvements in a person s life that can be experienced through meditation are wonderful.
The world can seem so fast paced and hectic that even a few minutes a few times a day can make a big
difference. The calming and soothing relaxation of a guided meditation can help people survive
beyond the harder times life often has to offer. A good meditation guide is where a beginner should
start when entering into meditation.
Meditation has often been linked with spirituality and religion. Used by yoga practitioners as well as
Buddhists, it is also found in Christianity and Catholicism in the form of quiet prayer and inner
contemplation. However, meditation can also work in other fields, such as health care and especially
in controlling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even if only taken a few minutes at a time, and only once or twice a day, a person will open
themselves up to living without stress and turmoil. It has been said that the blood chemistry of a
person undergoing guide meditation is different than that of someone experiencing stress. Meditation
allows this calming change to eventually affect other parts of daily life without having to meditate, so
long as meditation itself is practiced on a regular basis.
To begin properly using meditation in one s life, start by creating a list of goals. These should be
things one is willing to accomplish and interested in achieving. Meditation has been able to help
people recover from addictions, deal with chronic pain and long term diseases, and experience
serenity. Whether one is seeking peace or to achieve something, have the list of goals clear in your
mind.
Once a set list of goals is in place, find a good spot within the home to meditate. It s important that
this place be comfortable to sit in and spend time in, a welcoming place. It s also important that this
meditative space be free from regular interruptions. Consider a spot away from the front door and
telephone, the bathroom and kitchen. Make sure it s a place you ll want to come to a few times a

Main Causative Factor in the Failure of the DePuy ASR and...
Size of the devices:
The role of the large diameter ASR devices in males are linked with considerably lower metal ion
levels in contrast to the BHR devices, proposing that under perfect in vivo conditions the ASR has a
less wear rate than the BHR device (Underwood et al. 2011). Although, problems also occurred with
the smaller hip resurfacing implants among women and small men. It was discovered that these
implants did not lubricate as well, unlike the bigger implants and therefore they produced a large
amount of metal debris and produced a very concentration of metal ions in the blood. (Cohen 2012).
Acetabular component:
The BHR hip device is more innovative than the ASR device as it has a hole used for wires to fix the
introducer. The ASR device does not have this. (Underwood et al. 2011).
Positioning of the components:
The difference can be seen in the sub optimally positioned components within 10° of Lewinnek s safe
zone in the occurrence of edge loading and rate of wear in both the ASR and the BHR devices
(Underwood et al. 2011).
Wear and inclination of the acetabular component:
A major positive correlation was seen between the wear and inclination of the acetabular component
with the BHR device (p = 0.01) which was not seen with the ASR device (p = 0.6). This suggests
either that the ASR devices have a higher wear rate at all inclinations or that the safe zone that escapes
edge loading is a lot thinner than that of the BHR device (Underwood et al. 2011).

Why Racism Is an Issue in Need of Solution
Introduction:
In modern day America, racism is a prevalent issue that is often brushed to the side as an issue of the
past. As a citizen in America we are under the assumption that, in accordance with the Declaration of
Independence, Bill of Rights, and by Biblical standards, everyone is equal therefore prejudice based
on race is wrong. In order to establish how wrong racism is people should be educated about the
reasons why and how to prevent it. The best way to do this is to teach about it in school curriculums.
The quandary in this paper is that racism is not taught in schools to the adults and the youth today the
only ones that have a hope of making a real difference. While Racism is by no means new to society it
is a covered matter up where people are often left ignorant of an issue that impacts thousands of
Americans on a daily basis. Despite historical significance, racism is often glossed over in history
classes even though it has a high influential impact on society. More often than not school history
classes speed through from slavery, the Civil War, Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights Movement as a way
to honor Black History Month; while important cases involving racism, like Brown vs. Board, Brown
II, the case of Emmett Till, and the Clark experiment are often times left out because of the negative
outlook it has on American society. In this paper I will utilize Scarry s argument on the right to exit
and Curtis s theory of human superfluous in order to better

  • 2. Arrow Of God District 9 Comparison Arrow of God written by Chinua Achebe is set in the 1920 s located in Nigeria. The book focuses on the main character Ezeulu, the Igbo people s chief priest. Throughout the text we see Ezeulu have conflicts with other tribes and with Christian missionaries, get sent to prison for denying a position from the British, and Ezeulu having difficulties within his own tribe and their yam harvest (Achebe). All the events that happened in Arrow of God lead to a much deeper meaning. If we take a look at a look at the very complex film District 9 produced by Peter Jackson, we see a very different but similar story. This is a mockumentary type film that explores the life of a MNU executive, an alien and his son, the Nigerian gang, and a mercenary soldier employed by MNU (IMDb). In both stories, Arrow of God and District 9, there are very blunt patterns of fiction, distinct archetypes, and prominent philosophies used. The stories above are two different types of media, with similar content. Both book and movie shows a tribe being pushed out of their home, in almost the same way. In both stories we see patterns of fiction, which is when a reader is introduced to a character and some event or a challenge occurs. In Arrow of God, Ezeulu is faced with a difficult decision towards the end of the story. We call this The Choice. Ezeulu is faced with the decision to allow his tribe to participate in the New Yam Feast, but instead tells them not to and famine strikes the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Eukaryotic Theory Introns are nucleotide sequences universal amongst the Eukarya domain. Reconstructive models of maximum parsimony and likelihood suggest introns were present in the last eukaryotic common ancestor (LECA) (Csuros, 2005) and have since been gained, lost, and adapted to a multitude of functions by separate lineages; any degree of intron conservation in modern eukaryotes is suggestive of function, despite appearing to exist solely for removal. Although they possess many valuable roles this does not explain the ubiquity of introns within eukaryotic genomes. To understand their widespread presence despite their apparent deleterious effects it is necessary to discern the evolutionary origins and conditions which impelled their prevalence. Structural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Per this theory, GpII invaded the eukaryotic lineage in its genesis via the mitochondrial endosymbiosis and have been inserting themselves into coding genes continuously since; a mechanism consistent with the high levels of GpII in some α proteobacteria (Robart Zimmerly, 2005) and the ability of yeast mitochondrial GpII to insert themselves into double stranded genomic DNA (Zimmerly et al., 1996). Symbiosis related selection pressure upon the α proteobacteria coupled with its bacterial nature of jettisoning unwanted genes caused the exchange of GpII and cognate maturases (Schmitz Linneweber et al., 2015) between the proto mitochondrion and the host cell which lacked the necessary control mechanisms to restrict their spread. Hence, the proportion of introns in the LECA genome is considerably greater than in contemporary eukaryotic lineages, excluding some vertebrates (Figure.1). Comparison of nuclear encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal proteins and mitochondrial ribosomal proteins showed that intron positions were conserved (Yoshihama et al., 2006), suggestive of common descent between all eukaryotes. However, the presence of introns presents significant problems to the host. Principally, random and aggressive insertion of foreign gene elements is likely to disrupt essential coding sequences within the host genome; hence, only neutral intron insertions could persist. Additionally, splicing reactions require the energetically expensive and complex machinery of the spliceosome, comprised of over 150 proteins and 5 snRNA units (Wahl et al., 2009), any fault in which would cause broad harm to the cell (Chorev Carmel, ... • 4. Democracy Of The Islamic States ( Iran Vs Turkey Democracy in the Islamic States (Iran Vs Turkey) Democracy is a predominant authority regime that most countries both young and mature have adopted based on its accrued benefits. Defining democracy can be a daunting task as several countries may prefer to institute governing policies rather than adopt from other states (Rowley Smith, 2009). The element of incorporating modified aspects of democracy is based on the difference in several factors that may range from religion, culture, to political ambition. Islamic states are considered complex as religion sharia laws play a prevailing role in the majority of the administration tasks conducted by the state. As such, Islamic countries defined by a democratic administration will prefer to integrate the alternative that will serve them best. This essay will evaluate two democratic regimes that were established in the Middle East, and further, discuss the factors that lead to Iran s democratic failure over Turkey s administration success. Assessing Compatibility between democracy and Islam is a topic that numerous and prominent individuals ranging from authors, religious leaders, political figures among other important personalities have significantly contributed towards. As purported by Ahmad (2011), most intellectuals, for instance, oriental scholars have over time represented Islamic governed states as static with minimum development. The culmination of the Iranian revolution in 1979 sparked an inquiry into the authoritarian ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Cathy Whitman Research Paper Cathy Freeman was born on February 16, 1973 in Mackay, QLD. (The Editors of Encyclopædia Britannica, 2017). Cathy has achieved quite a lot in her life thus far, and is an inspirational figure for many Indigenous, and Non Indigenous Australians. Her legacy is still recognised as a hero today. Cathy s efforts have been rewarded all throughout her career. She was the first Aboriginal person to win a Commonwealth Games gold medal. The first Aboriginal women to compete in the Olympic Games, where she was recognised as Young Australian of the Year Award, at only age 17. After, in 1998 she was awarded Australian of the Year, being the first person to receive both awards. This was because of Cathy s efforts where she won gold in both her 200 metre and 400 metre events in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games. This was a very notable event, as Cathy went on to do a victory lap holding both the Australian flag, as well as the native Aboriginal flag (Australian of the Year Awards, n.d.). ... I first sat down with Mark Nimphius, my father after a day of work. Then I interviewed my grandmother, Melody Sorano. They both spent a part of their lives in the 70 s. Mark was born in the early 70 s on July 15. He lived with his four younger siblings, his sister Alison, Elizabeth, his brothers Peter and Rudy, with his mom Sue Nimphius and his dad Danny Nimphius. The 70s seemed laid back without as much crime. Everything is slowed down without a rush. I see happiness and joy. I see fun. • 7. First True People To Discover America The first true people to discover America were the many ancient nomads who crossed over the Bearing land bridge connecting Siberia to Alaska some 20,000 years ago. They crossed and traveled over 16,000 miles and inhabited North America. These were the first Native Americans . Fast forward to about 500 years ago when the Spanish, the French, and the British first discovered the new land and sent parties to explore it. But when they did they found many Native American tribes. Some were treated fairly and made peace with, while others were slaughtered, sold into slavery, and some even completely wiped out. • 8. The United States Involvement During The Civil War In the year of 1898, Spain declared war on the United States. The U.S. prime objective was for the true Cuban independence. In pursuing such goal, the string of conflicts began with the inhumane treatment of Cuban civilians in concentration camps by the Spanish, yellow journalism, and the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine. The United States involvement in the war was a combination of all of these factors; however, the most influential factor was the sinking of the U.S.S. Maine. The outrage of American citizens advanced throughout the country. Ultimately, the firm perception of a deliberate attack on the Maine pressured the United States into the war. Without a clear rationale, the American public compelled the United States to avenge the Maine. After a short four month war, United States won the war and emerged as a dominant force in the world. The Spanish American war centers around many contributing elements. The first of these events was the reconcentration policy. General Weyler was put in charge to stop Cuban rebels from expanding. Such policy was intended to protect the noncombatant peasantry of the island, but his sole object was to compel them to put themselves wholly in the power of the Spanish officials (White). The policy forced all rural district civilians to move into cities and towns that were still under Weyler s control. Moreover, Weyler concluded that this would prevent civilians from assisting rebels with information or food. He enforced the concentration ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Sunlight And Sunlight Sunlight and shade can have effects on how the way turf grasses and weeds grow in lawns. Sunlight is make ultraviolet radiation, and certain types of UV radiation can cause harm to turf gasses by. Ultraviolet radiation all depends on what wavelengths the turf grasses can handle, the wavelengths average from 400 280nm (Huylenbroeck and Bockstaele, 2001). Turf grasses start to form adaptations to help survive in these conditions, by producing high amounts of chlorophyll, and having other characteristics change to help better preform in the conditions. Shade is also a benefactor when it comes to the turf grasses health. With excessive amounts of shade, objects are preventing the turf to get the nutrients it needs from the sunlight to survive. Without the nutrients the turf will start to obtain smaller roots, reduced shoots, and be introduced to diseases (Busey and Davis, 1991). Shade can also be preventing water access to the turf grass. Types of grass are considered to be shade tolerable like the fine fescues, and the rough bluegrass (Harper, 2013). The conditions of where turf grass is found in order to maintain its health. Sunlight includes ultraviolet radiation, which can harm turf grass. Ultraviolet radiation is split into three different categories based on their wavelengths, UV A, UV B, and UV C. UV A has a wave length of 400 315nm, and is the least harmful to turf grass. UV B has a wave length of 315 280nm, and is responsible for getting through the ozone layer and is the most harmful UV light to turf grass. UV C has a wavelength of 100 280nm, but this wavelength never reaches the earth. The smaller the wavelength the more energy, and radiation with higher energy can penetrate deeper into the cells, causing more damage (Huylenbroeck and Bockstaele, 2001). Over exposure to ultraviolet radiation can be harmful to grasses and weeds, by damaging the grasses DNA, its proteins, lipids and membranes. With over exposure to ultraviolet radiation, grasses can undergo mutations when reproducing. Mutations are however, mostly negative, inhibiting vital cellular processes (DNA transcription and replication) and resulting in disturbed cellular function, sometimes even cell death (Busey and Davis, 1991). Until a planned visit alongside my family in 2012. It would be only my second visit since my initial immigration to Canada in 2006. During this presumably safe trip, a vicious civil war occurred only two weeks into our vacation. Bombs went off, streaks of bullets zoomed by, televisions and radios blared as the extended family anxiously listened to the news. But that s not the Tripoli I know. All of which became very important to me when I learned I m moving to Canada at the age of nine. The empirical evidence, suggests that immigrants improve labor market efficiency by providing additional and complementary labor force. Labor market impact of immigration depends on the size and geographic location of the immigrant population and on the skills they bring to the labor market and how these skills compare with those of natives (Borjas, 2006:4). Broadly speaking, immigration is not detrimental to the host labor market or economy. Most of the research on the labor market impact of immigration has been concerned with the impact of immigration on wages rather than labor force participation or unemployment rates. Borjas (2003) noted that the impact of wages fluctuates from study to study but clusters around zero which is contradictory with theoretical prediction of a downward pressure. Whether the reasons are methodological issues (misspecification, endogeneity, and heterogeneity), market forces in specific cases (area vs. factor proportion approach4) or institutional factors has not been established. A meta analysis of international research (Longhi et at, 2004) identifies common findings that are also likely to apply to Argentina. With an overall mean of 0.119 standard deviations on wages, the authors highlight that the downward effects is larger in more rigid labor markets, that studies that do not control for endogeneity of the proportion of ... • 12. Research Paper On Indus River Valley Civilization Ancient Egypt Egyptian civilization began around 5000 BC and began to flourish in 3000 BC. Generally ancient Egyptian history is seperated into three kingdoms the old kingdon, middle, and new kingdom. The old kingdom (2686BC 2134BC) is the time period where most of what we think of ancient Egypt like the pyramids (built as burial tombs for the pharoah). During that time Egyptians began to write texts, study medicine, and find new battle tactics. The Egyptians were polytheists and had a pantheon of gods, they believed the pharoah to be the god Horus and was thus treated as such.Egyptian society was more egalitarian than other societies, women could own property and divorce their husbands. There was not social mobility in Egyptian society, but It was not impossible to rise up the social ladder. • 13. The Power Of Words In The Book Thief And Mein Kampf Words are stronger than people think; they can put ideas in a person s head without much effort. The power of words used in The Book Thief are different and similar to the power of words Hitler uses in Mein Kampf. This theme is very important in many ways and it helps represent how people can be very persuasive and vigorous. The power of words used in the Book Thief and in Mein Kampf can be compared and contrasted revolving around certain topics, such as: the effects words have on others, the way words are used to make it become persuasive, and who the words belong to. To start off, the effects words have on others is a very imperative topic that helps compare and contrast the power of words for The Book Thief and Mein Kampf. In The Book Thief, many characters can affect people s lives by the use of words, for example, Rosa saying bad words has made Liesel to start saying the same bad words as well. The power Rosa has over her daughter is like she is putting words in Liesel s mouth. Saukerl, Liesel whispered. The vocabulary of her new home was catching on fast (Zusak 48). This is similar to Mein Kampf when Hitler has affected many of the German s lives by convincing them that Jews are the ominous people. Also, Hitler has impaired Jews lives a ton by creating an evilness within them, changing their lives forever. Hitler jeopardized their life and put them in danger and he put the Jews on different echelon than everyone else. On the other hand, their differences is that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Despotism And The Framers Of The Constitution Dbq King George the Third ruled England through despotism, and the Framers of the Constitution did not want the same fate. In May of 1787, fifty five state delegates arranged a Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia. The delegates argued a long list of reasons why the Articles of Confederation was not working, thus creating a completely new outline of the government. The making of the Constitution restrained one person or group from obtaining too much power and turning America into an autocracy. The Framers introduced, federalism, separation of power, checks and balances, and the small and large state compromise into the governing document. Federalism was a strong starting point to prevent America from becoming a dictatorship. Different powers were given in James Madison s compound government. The state and federal governments provide double security to the rights of the people in America. (Doc. Some supported the war efforts exhausted in order to contain communism and others felt like we were fighting an unjust war. The views of the Battle on Pork Chop Hill are no different. US forces originally occupied a location originally known as Hill 355 in October of 1951. The tactics used to capture and fight for this location were brutal, and exhausting for both sides. Various Infantry and Artillery units fought to capture and defend this hill. Using Artillery during this war was key for U.S. forces to capture and control Pork Chop Hill. Even though some would say it was a long drawn out war, it shows the importance of artillery during battle because it provides soldiers basic leadership skills, strengthens future generations of soldiers, and their basic military heritage and tactics. The Battle on Pork Chop Hill is a significant event in the war because it lasted longer than any other single battle during the Korean War. The Field Artillery was important to these battles and so were the effects it had on these events. Many lives were lost as a result of fighting for this hill including Soldiers from the NATO coalition forces, United States, North Korea, and China. Both sides had constructed such great defensive tactics that if they tried to advance, it would result in loss of more men. Like many wars, this battle focuses on political views. When ... Using the same database as I did for the Olympics, EBSCO, I was able to find almost 26,000 results for Major League Baseball. The subcategories resulted in fewer sources, around 1,000 each. Google Scholar also offered a sufficient amount of sources, about 1 million for Major League Baseball in general, and around 40,000 for each narrowed search. (United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs, 2005). Women living at the beginning and middle points of the village have to trek for a considerable distance to reach the stream, when compared to those who live at the bottom of the village near the stream. Women are the primary stakeholders in the fight for clean water as sources such as many rivers and wells are contaminated as they bear the burden and lack the freedoms that are necessary to ensure equality not inequality. Women in India have limited access to resources and the ability to express in the public sphere, which creates division of bearing the burden of responsibilities in the fight against the shortage of water. The criminal law requires any defendant to be competent enough not only during the alleged offense but also during his time of trial ( Competence to Stand Trial, n.d). Those with questionable competency should undergo special treatment before they are tried. This operates to ensure ethics are upheld, morals and justice of the defendant. Defendant s competence is measured in terms of their rationalism and a competency evaluation. A rational defendant is one who understands the penalties, courtroom proceedings and can consult with their lawyer or attorney. This requirement ensures a defendant can participate in their own defense, hence a rational defendant should be subject to standard sentencing procedures. It would be unconstitutional and immoral for an individual who lacks the ability to understand, communicate and make rational decision to undergo standard procedures of sentencing. Instead, incompetent defendants should be restrained in mental hospitals to serve their punishment ( Competence to Stand Trial, n.d). Size of the devices: The role of the large diameter ASR devices in males are linked with considerably lower metal ion levels in contrast to the BHR devices, proposing that under perfect in vivo conditions the ASR has a less wear rate than the BHR device (Underwood et al. 2011). Although, problems also occurred with the smaller hip resurfacing implants among women and small men. It was discovered that these implants did not lubricate as well, unlike the bigger implants and therefore they produced a large amount of metal debris and produced a very concentration of metal ions in the blood. (Cohen 2012). Acetabular component: The BHR hip device is more innovative than the ASR device as it has a hole used for wires to fix the introducer. The ASR device does not have this. (Underwood et al. 2011). Positioning of the components: The difference can be seen in the sub optimally positioned components within 10° of Lewinnek s safe zone in the occurrence of edge loading and rate of wear in both the ASR and the BHR devices (Underwood et al. 2011). Wear and inclination of the acetabular component: A major positive correlation was seen between the wear and inclination of the acetabular component with the BHR device (p = 0.01) which was not seen with the ASR device (p = 0.6). This suggests either that the ASR devices have a higher wear rate at all inclinations or that the safe zone that escapes edge loading is a lot thinner than that of the BHR device (Underwood et al. 2011). ... As a citizen in America we are under the assumption that, in accordance with the Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights, and by Biblical standards, everyone is equal therefore prejudice based on race is wrong. In order to establish how wrong racism is people should be educated about the reasons why and how to prevent it. The best way to do this is to teach about it in school curriculums. The quandary in this paper is that racism is not taught in schools to the adults and the youth today the only ones that have a hope of making a real difference. While Racism is by no means new to society it is a covered matter up where people are often left ignorant of an issue that impacts thousands of Americans on a daily basis. Despite historical significance, racism is often glossed over in history classes even though it has a high influential impact on society. More often than not school history classes speed through from slavery, the Civil War, Jim Crow, and the Civil Rights Movement as a way to honor Black History Month; while important cases involving racism, like Brown vs. Board, Brown II, the case of Emmett Till, and the Clark experiment are often times left out because of the negative outlook it has on American society.
