attract FDI, corporate tax incentives has been used worldwide, as FDI significantly boost up the

destination of FDI is that its FDI policies, huge labour supply and low cost of it, stable economic and
political environment. (Deng et al., 2007). FDI inflows into China

King s Injustice In A Birmingham Jail
King writes about the injustices imposed specifically on Blacks, and the need for the United States to
recognize and annul these wrongdoings. In his letter, King is in a Birmingham jail, arrested for
protesting segregation. He wasn t willing to sit on the sidelines of the fight for equality while his
brothers and sisters fought and died for their cause. He was willing to sacrifice everything for this
cause. He responds to his fellow clergymen that called his actions unwise and untimely , usually not
responding to such inquiries, except this specific case, he realized that they had pure intentions and he
felt it his duty to try to help them understand his cause. He has so much passion for justice; it was his
only concern. King

Other indicators of neighborhood decline and disorder include vandalism, abandoned buildings,
graffiti, and vacant lots. Of all of the indicators assessed in a study done by Perkins, Meeks, and
Taylor in 1992, litter was found to have the strongest correlation with perceptions of neighborhood
decline and disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). A study by Skogan in 1990, indicates that the
effects of this perception of neighborhood decline range from a decrease in property values to an
increase in crime, or at least an increase in criminals perception that crime will be tolerated (as in
Florida Litter Study, 1998). This study goes on to explain that as people s perceptions of neighborhood
decline increase, it is more likely that crime will occur and that criminals will be drawn to the area
because it appears more likely that criminal behavior will be tolerated or ignored. A study by
DeFrances and Titus in 1994 found a statistically significant relationship between neighborhood
disorder and burglary outcome indicating that burglaries are more likely to be completed in
neighborhoods with higher levels of disorder (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). The study by Skogan
indicates that the effect of this perception of neighborhood decline and increase in crime can also
negatively impact property values and investment interest (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998).

Environmental Benefits Of Green Roofs
Introduction
There are several ecological and environmental benefits of green roofs which have consequentially
brought in increasing interests in this technology. A green roof, as a carpeting of plants on the roof of
buildings, offers many benefits in addition to enhancing its aesthetic value. Primarily, green roofs have
the ability to delay the storm runoff peak occurrence, thus reducing the peak flow rate and mitigating
flood risks. Another benefit is its thermal insulation potential that reduces the urban heat island effect.
They also help with pollution abatement, carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and general
improvement of life quality in urban ecosystems (Xiaosheng et al. 2014).
Green roofs generally consist of a rather simple layering covering the rooftop, including a waterproof
layer, a water retention layer and a drainage/filter layer topped with substrate with different depths
according to both maximum load capacity of the roof and vegetation type to be grown (Nardini et al.
2012). However, while there has not so much attention about the relative importance of vegetation
structure and composition in determining the ecosystem and technical functions of green roofs, in the
last years, a number of studies have reported significant impacts of vegetation type on stormwater
runoff management (VanWoert et al. 2005).
In this paper, I aim to review existing research literature and summarize the process and importance of
vegetation selection criteria for

Race Reflection Paper
The color line was used in reference of segregation that existed after slavery ended. Many would say
that Du Bois view on race still exists in today s generation. I personally believe that race plays a major
role in our daily lives. Over the past few years we have seen so many different actions that have taken
place regarding race. In 1866, it was stated that the Jim Crow laws were declared unconstitutional, but
in 2017 African Americans feel as if they still face the Jim Crow laws in different situations. Blacks
continue to be treated differently, especially within the criminal justice system.
Social inequality due to race is very real and it has a big affect on African Americans. The way that
Blacks in society perceive each other, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It was said to me all throughout my college career how important it is to be a Black. As a Criminal
Justice major with a minor in Sociology at Clark Atlanta University, the work and determination of
W.E. B Dubois was installed in me and pushed me to strive and understand my culture more than ever
before. W.E.B Dubois contributions to sociological theory such as civil rights, education and
economic opportunities for people of color are strongly talked about at Clark Atlanta University.
History is clearly repeating itself dealing with the way African Americans are perceived and treated.
Even though there are several African Americans who know their worth, it can sometimes be hard to
face challenges, such as inequality issues due to race in 2017. After hearing so many stories about our
ancestors who fought for equality rights, who would ever thought that minorities would be still
fighting in today s generation all over again. In the 2016 2017 Presidential Election candidate now
newly elected President Donald Trump states, In the old days, protesters would be carried out on

the last century and that we are still dealing with the same problems of racism

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Analysis

Essay on Analysis of Rita Dove’s, “Daystar”
C Stevens 07/09/2010 Professor Kierath English 102.212 Analysis of Rita Dove s, Daystar Daystar by
Rita Dove is an expressive poem, which centers on the main character, a young mother and wife, who
internally struggles with her burdensome, daily duties, which creates a lack of freedom in her world.
Dove s choice of words lets the reader empathize with her confined life. In this poem, irony exists for
the mere fact that from birth to adulthood the female population is brought up to feel fulfilled by
simply becoming a wife and mother; however, this poem describes the monotonous duties and the
joyless bond that can be between husband and wife. As the poem opens, Dove begins with a metaphor
that entertains the idea of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Later that night when Thomas roller over and lurched into her, she would open her eyes and think of
the place that was hers this proves the point that she cannot even express herself sexually because she
does not feel as if she has control in the situation. Her mind wanders elsewhere, in a place where she
is her own master, instead of what is reality. Additionally, the main character s husband shows some
selfish tendencies in the fact that he may not notice his wife s discontentment with his affection.
However, this may also present the lack of communication between man and wife and therefore may
cause a sense of isolation from her husband. The main character possesses the characteristics of most
young women, a full plate of responsibility and the lack of freedom that can wither away a person s
soul. My response to this poem is that I strongly respect the author for bringing up such a
controversial issue such as discontentment with being a stay at home mother, since this is usually to be
expected of women. Dove explains the poem delicately and leaves the underlying sense that she may
have possibly been through the situation herself. This being said, her imagery is wonderfully used and
the metaphor of the doll being slumped over is a brilliant way to reflect upon the main character s
feelings and actions. The irony comes into play, in my opinion,

Oroonoko and Gulliver s Travels
Gulliver s Travels and Oroonoko shatter the myth that European culture was more civilized than
newly discovered savage countries. The most prominent examples in Oroonoko are their treatment of
the slaves and how they are punished. In Gulliver s Travels the evidence revolves around how petty,
destructive, illogical, and unreasonable human beings act. Though the authors of these stories differ on
many levels from their writing style to the very reason why their story was written they have a
common theme. They show glaring evidence that European culture is actually more savage than the

320]. This is Oroonoko s response to the captain s betrayal upon their arrival to Surinam. The captain
sold Oroonoko to the first bidder when they arrived and not only that they also sold him to a different
owner than his other men. But this is only the tip of how savage the Europeans behaved. After
Oroonoko, known by this time by his slave name Caesar, had given rise to a revolution he was put to
death. The manner in which he was killed is the saddest and most savage display of cruelty. Oroonoko
was publicly dismembered and then his body parts were to be distributed to the plantations in order to
scare the other slaves into submission. And the executioner came and cut off his members, and threw
them into the fire. After that, with an ill favored knife, they cut his ears and his nose, and burned them;
he still smoked on, as if nothing had touched him he gave up the ghost, without a groan, or a reproach,
[p. 341]. Though some of the gory details are omitted in this quote, it is easy to see the cruelty used in
his dismemberment and also the desire to inflict as pain as possible. Something that caught my
attention while reading of his death was the choice of words used to describe how Oroonoko s body
was hacked apart. To hack at something is to cut it with crude, harsh, and irregular swings. The words
mutilate and mangle are commonly used in the definition of hack. In Gulliver s Travels the author

Grant proposal A was about implementing an expansion to ABC s Alternative Breaks program to send

where clarification in not necessary. This grant proposal falls under the community service, and civic
engagement categories. Although this grant proposal is for an expansion of preexisting program, I can

The grant proposal application states that the project must have an end date on or before August 31,

no indication how the project would impact those involved, or how it would impact the community.
This proposal never indicated how they would evaluate the project itself once it was over, and the
project had no prediction of the sustainability after the grant either. The only strengths this grant
proposal had was providing a budget match, and fitting within the community service, and civic
engagement categories. I felt this grant proposal was pointless, and I would not fund this proposal at

Grant proposal C proposed for a community mural to be created in various alleys within the
downtown area. This proposal falls within the community service, service learning, and civic
engagement categories. This grant proposal did not clearly state why it is imperative this project

no problems that would be addressed by this proposal. However, the proposal did state property values
would increase, and beautiful pictures would be displayed for the community to see, if this project was

Parents Keep Child s Gender Secret By Jayme Poisson
In Parents Keep Child s Gender Secret, Jayme Poisson describes how one family choses to raise their
child genderless. They are also keeping the child s sex a secret, although it is not clear if they are
trying to allow the child to define its sex. Gender and sex are two different distinctions that are often
mistakenly seen as the same thing. Society places gender expectations based on sex, so it s easy to see
why they are looked at as the same thing. It s important to remember that gender represents a choice,
while sex is determined before you are born. The option of choosing is important when considering
the ethics of raising a child. It s why I believe that it is ethical to allow a child to define their gender
and unethical to allow a child to define their sex.
There are three common arguments against allowing a child to define their gender. The first common
argument is that the child will bullied and may not be mature enough to handle it. Unfortunately,
children can be bullied for a number of reasons regardless of their gender. Parents do not allow
bullying to affect other decisions and they should not allow bullying to interfere with who their child
wants to be either. It is he one doing the bullying that has a problem, not their child.
The second common argument against allowing a child to define their gender is that friends and
family will disapprove. However, there is always someone who will disapprove of any decision you
make. Voting, eating meat, sexual

The Australian Judicial System
Within the context of the Australian judicial system, all legal proceedings are subject to certain rules
regarding the admissibility of evidence. In the mid 1990 s, the existing rules of evidence were
replaced by the Uniform Evidence Act s, as a means whereby consistency of decision making could be
better observed. These new rules lay out standards which must be strictly adhered to, to ensure that the
rights of both parties to a case are respected, allowing for a fair trial to take place. The specific act
which will be used is dependent on the jurisdiction of the court itself; all High Court, Federal Court,
Family Court, Federal Magistrates Court, and ACT courts are subject to The Evidence Act (Cth). The
Tasmanian, New South Wales and Victorian Evidence Acts are marginally different from that of the
Commonwealth, however generally speaking they are the same with a few minor differences .
Under the Uniform Evidence Act s, regardless of whether or not a certain piece of evidence meets the
relevant admissibility requirements, a judge in certain circumstances can use their discretion to
exclude pieces of evidence that are unfairly prejudicial on the part of the accused, which could have a
negative effect on juries assessment of a fact in issue. The discretionary powers under the Act are
based on principles established at common law, which are commonly referred to as the Christie
Discretion . An example of one of these powers under the Evidence Act is seen in section 135, which

Health Care Reform Essay
From FDR s New Deal to Lyndon Johnson s Great Society, the United States government has
attempted to centralize extensive social policies. In the early eighties, when recession and inflation
were at a high, Ronald Reagan took office and pronounced that the federal government needed to take
a lesser role in the lives of the American people. As Theda Skocpol comments in her book
Boomerang: Clinton s Health Security Effort and the Turn Against Government in U.S. Politics, the
Reagan administration instilled a dislike of centralized government in the American people. This was
a major reason, according to Skocpol, why the Clinton Administration failed to nationalize Health

The predominantly white bourgeoisie saw such reforms as a financial threat. The civil rights act of
1964 was a distant promise to the underprivileged for a better way of living. The American people
were not willing to give up some of their money so that the more unfortunate could a have a better
way of living. The reaction to The Great Society conveyed the American public s unwillingness to
sacrifice their economic security for the unfortunate. The federal government would not take a bigger

In the eighties Ronald Reagan came into power and instilled an intense fear of big government into the
American people. As Theda Skocpol says ...debt and disillusionment with the federal government
were growing before the 1980s. But the republican ascendancy of that decade exploded the deficit and
deliberately encouraged cynicism about public efforts to address national problems. The Reagan
administration worked to cut taxes and spending on what was called wasteful government programs.
The democrats, who in the Congressional majority, attempted to maintain the programs that already
existed. Yet the republican forces would eventually starve the existing programs in order to cut the
federal budget. Twelve years after Reagan and Bush took office the annual deficit rose from 59 billion
in 1980 to 300 billion in 1992 and the national debt rose from 914 billion

Strengths
Lego s key strengths may be seen as coming from both its brand recognition and its ability to use
innovative technology without moving away from the company s core values. Whilst there are many
other competitors in the toy or children s entertainment market Lego remains the brand of choice in
the field of construction toys despite the fall of other long term historical brand such as Meccano (V A
2010) and the rise of alternative substitute products such as video games (BBC News 2004). As the
case study indicates despite the traditional nature of the Lego offering the company has a strong
association with contemporary IT, design and manufacturing systems which help to make the product
both more durable as well as helping to reduce manufacturing costs thus making the field of
technology as key strength for the business.
Weaknesses
Lego s key weakness in the run up to 2004 may be seen as two fold. Firstly the company has failed in
a key area of the understanding of marketing in regard to understanding the needs of their customers
which may be seen as the focal point of the marketing concept (Brassington and Pettitt 2007). This
can be clearly seen in the role out of the

Virgin Of Immaculate Conception Analysis
An overview of The Virgin of the Immaculate Conception
The Virgin of Immaculate Conception was created in the late 18th century in most likely South
America, probably Cuzco, Peru (Dallas Museum of Art). The illustration was formed with oil on a
canvas and the artist is unknown. The artwork is currently being displayed at the Dallas Museum of
Art within the Latin American Art section. The Virgin of Immaculate Conception belongs to the The
Cleofas and Celia de la Garza Collection and was a gift from Mary de la Garza Hanna and Virginia de
la Garza. Other featured works in this collection are The Ascension of Christ and Flight into Egypt,
both by an unknown artist. This artwork is a religiously stylized piece composed to represent the
values of the Virgin Mary s life, heritage, and future.
Subject History
The Immaculate Conception of the Virgin began appearing as a subject in art in the 17th century
Spain, and from there it spread in the Spanish colonies of the New World. (Dallas Museum of Art,
2017) The movement of highlighting religious figures within Latin American culture not only served

everyone in the secret annex. Anne Frank and all of the other Jews were forced to go to concentration
camps of go into hiding due to Hitler who was anti semitic. While in the annex, she kept a diary and
after she was killed in the concentration camps, later on, this diary was published. After that, a play
was made from her diary that was called The Diary of Anne Frank. Consequently, people were
exposed to the heartbreaking story of Anne Frank, her family, and her friends. The play really showed

At first, Anne was terrified to go into hiding but her positivity and hope showed and taught many
people lessons on how you should look at life. Anne had such a big influence on the people who read
her diary. The play that was constructed off of her diary writings really lets us understand how and
what Anne was feeling along with the others in the house. The Franks in addition to their friends, had
people who helped them out while they were in hiding. This is one reason why Anne would have
thought that people were really good at heart. One prime example is Miep Gies. She helped the Franks
even though she was not faithful in the Jewish religion. Meip replenished everyone in the group by
bringing them what they needed. She had a well thought out tactic that helped her be able to bring
supplies to the secret annex. She never gave up on them and helped them through their entire hiding.
This shows that people may not believe in the same things as you, but deep in their heart, they are
willing to help anyone in need. The group of people hiding in the secret annex was in need, they had
no way of getting food or any other supplies. This is where Miep came in to help them. She brought
them the food, plus all of the supplies that they needed, therefore, making them live much longer than
they should have. In the play, you could tell how happy the family was to see her. On page 326, we

La Fresne Social Status
This paper will focus on how nobility affects social status, opportunities and how it provides a
luxurious life to nobles. From La Fresne, I will study the fact that La Fresne s luxurious possessions
(blanket and fine ring), set her fate. Because of it she received an education and a decent living, and
eventually met her parents. If she didn t show signs of nobility her life would have turned out very
differently, she could have been abandoned or worse. In Marie de France s Le Fresne , a mother who
is frightened of being misjudged seeks to abandon one of her twin daughters, due to the fact that
having twins hinted at the idea of infidelity. The mother contemplates outrageous solutions to this
problem, such as murder, but after sound advice from her beloved maid, she decides against it, and
together formulate a plan to get rid of one of her daughters. They decide to abandon the child in a
church so that she could be adopted and raised by someone else. Before giving up her child, the
mother wraps her baby in a lavish brocade that her husband had brought back from the Crusades and
tied to it a fine ring. The maid leaves the child on an ash tree around the church, where she was found
and automatically assumed to be nobility. As stated in To Follow in Their Footsteps by Nicholas Paul,
when the First Crusades ended, happy crusaders returned to Europe bringing with them stories,
memorabilia, sacred relics, fine jewelry and weapons. The Crusaders brought with them lavish

Family History Of Dna Genetic Testing
DNA is the genetic code that exists in all living organisms. Usually, DNA is replicated with the same
genetic information. However, there are some mistakes which occur during the DNA replication,
which will result in some complications and abnormalities in genes leading to genetic diseases.128 So
the identification of genetic mutations is an important component in the early diagnosis of many types
of diseases and undesirable behaviors. Genetic testing is usually required for a diagnostic reason if
there are symptoms of a disease that may be caused by genetic alterations. If there is a family history
of a genetic condition, it is always wise to take the genetic testing before the symptoms show up.

1984 Book Essay
1984 Essay What do you think a normal human being needs to have a good, hearty life? What are the
most basic needs that are vital to one s survival? According to Maslow s hierarchy of needs,
physiological needs are those required to sustain life, such as air, water, nourishment, and sleep. If
such needs are not satisfied, then one s motivation will arise from the quest to satisfy them. Higher
needs such as social needs and esteem are not felt until one has met the needs basic to one s bodily
functioning. Beyond the details of air, water, food, and sex, Maslow laid out five broader layers: the
physiological needs, the needs for safety and security, the needs for love and belonging, the needs for
esteem, and the need to actualize the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Physiological needs are the needs that take the highest priority and they include the need for food,
water, air, exercise, etc. Winston gets sufficient amount of food to fill him up. However, the food is not
very satisfying. When Winston was at the grille eating with Syme, Winston had taken up his spoon
and was dabbling in the pale colored gravy that dribbled across the table...He meditated resentfully on
the physical texture of life. Had it always been like this? Had food always tasted like this? He looked
around the canteen. A low ceilinged crowded room...bent spoons, dented trays, coarse white mugs; all
surfaces greasy grime in every crack; and a sourish, composite smell of bad gin and bad coffee and
metallic stew... (Orwell 52). This shows that Winston is not in a state of hunger, implying that he has
enough food to keep him alive. But even though Winston has enough food to sustain his existence, the
food he gets to eat is very unpleasant and distasteful. Furthermore, Winston s physiological needs are
not quite met through the morning workouts, known as the physical jerks. The telescreen wakes
Winston up in the very early mornings to inform him to get up to do the Physical jerks. The Physical
Jerks would begin in three minutes. The next moment he was doubled up by a violent coughing fit
which nearly always attacked him soon after waking up so early. It emptied his lungs so completely

Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey By William...
3 Messages from Tintern (Pages 780 785) The poem, Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern
Abbey, by William Wordsworth is a poem that works from the simple to the complex. William
Wordsworth is a generation one romantic poet. The poems are meant to be short and brief, but the
poem Tintern is quite a bit longer. This poem by Wordsworth was written in 1798, during his second
visit to the valley of the River Wye and what s left of Tintern Abbey, which was once a great medieval
church, in Wales. Wordsworth hasn t visited Tintern Abbey in five years, and this time he has brought
his sister along with him. In the poem, Tintern, the three main messages I got from the text would be,
love, the beauty of nature, and time. One of the major factors in Tintern is that the poem shows love.
He does not only show love for nature, but he shows love to his sister and overall the setting of the
place. Wordsworth has not visited Tintern in five years, but this time he has brought along his sister
Dorothy with him. He wants to show his sister the beauty of it. He is describing the beauty and it
sounds like comparing that to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Wordsworth describes in this poem that even though many years have went by since he has been back
to Tintern, nothing has really changed in his eyes. And when they come back to visit it is just the ruins
of it, it is still beautiful to him. When he says, For the future years. And so I dare to hope. Though
changed, no doubt, from what I was when first I came among these hills; when like a roe lines 65 to
67, it tells that the changes really do not affect the way he sees the beauty. Then lines 1 to 4 he is

Theme Of Revenge In Hamlet
Ojea Quintana 1
Lucas Ojea Quintana
Mr. Sather
AP English 3: Section 1
23 October 2017
The Delay of Revenge Shakespeare s Tragedy Hamlet, demonstrates how humans have to answer one
question throughout their life, To be, or not to be. This question can apply to anything and anyone and
asks if a person should act or not. The ghost is a character who rarely appears, but offers Hamlet the
significant life long question, Hamlet must answer. Throughout the play Hamlet wonders if he should
kill Claudius or not which is the basis of the question, to be or not to be. Hamlet does not successfully
answer that question and he does not act when he should, which ends up killing him. The ghost affects
the theme of revenge because he calls upon Hamlet to avenge him and Hamlet s legacy. Although
deeply sorrowed by his father s death, Hamlet did not consider payback as an option until he meets
with the ghost of his father. The ghost tells Hamlet King Claudius, his own brother, murdered him.
Then the ghost tells Hamlet to revenge his foul and most unnatural murder? (I.v.25). Although murder
was an acceptable form of revenge in Hamlet s time he is uncertain about killing Claudius. However,
upon his father s command, Hamlet reluctantly swears to get revenge against Claudius. Hamlet does
this not because he wants to, but because his father makes it clear that it is his duty as a son, and so
Hamlet should not disappoint his perfect father. Hamlet promises to prove his love and duty by killing
Claudius.
Ojea Quintana 2 The idea of revenge is illustrated in many ways throughout the play. The appearance
of the ghost introduces appearance versus reality. When Claudius is at prayer, Hamlet had a perfect
opportunity to kill him but he did not want revenge for just punishment in his life, he wanted revenge
for punishment for eternity. Hamlet thinks that killing Claudius in his state of purity do this same
villain send /To heaven. /Why, this is hire and salary, not revenge! (III.iii.76) will make Claudius go to
heaven which is much more than he deserves. Yet another change I m Hamlet s character, changing
from not even thinking about killing Claudius at the start of the play too making sure

Hammond B-3 Analysis
The Hammond B 3 makes no differentiation between the genres because the instrument can be heard
in just about a little bit of every style. The Allman Brothers who are categorized as Southern Rock
cover the music of Billy Eckstine to the Chicago Delta Blues of Muddy Waters with Gregg Allman
playing a Hammond B 3 on a bunch tracks. In the sound of the Memphis soul group Booker T. and the
MGs, Booker is considered one of the best B 3 players I ve read about from various Gospel, Soul, and
Funk critics. Also, the Hammond B 3 can be heard being played by Owen Bradley on a few tracks
who is known for the Nashville sound. Even Ray Charles has an album, Jazz + Soul = Genius, which
includes several jazz standards he plays entirely on the B 3. The list is nearly endless and continues

The Album Of La Revue Blanche
Exhibition Overview:
Among the many fabulous pieces of art housed at the DMA, there lies a hidden gem that has yet to be
on display. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th
century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin de siècle French print
culture, but also a beautiful case study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the realm of
fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in early modern
art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic hallmarks of the
lithograph in a more detailed way.
Lithography: Method
Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water.
In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease treated image on the flat printing surface. Non
image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed by means
of a special press as in most fine art printmaking . The earliest though no longer the only method of
creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image is drawn with tusche a
carbon pigment in liquid form, and litho crayon a type of grease pencil before the printing surface is
fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. The printing itself is done on a press that
exerts a sliding pressure, and because it undergoes virtually no wear in

The Controversy Of The Dakota Access Pipeline
The Dakota Access Pipeline has been the main focus of attention within the last year. To understand
how and why this pipeline is at the heart of such heated debate, it is important to explain what the
pipeline is for. The Dakota Access Pipeline is an underground pipe that is funded and paid for with
TAXPAYERS MONEY and carries crude oil from North Dakota to Illinois. Crude oil is currently
transported by way of railroads and trucks, which in recent times is noticeably becoming more
problem some. The debate centers over how productive this pipeline will be and are the risks worth it.
The suggested answer to this question is the benefits of this pipeline will not out way the risk. There

It is important to note over time metal rust, and the constant pumping of crude oil through the
pipelines will eventually overtime causes the pipes to rupture and break apart. Anything made by man
is able to be destroyed, whether by man themselves or by nature. Now there are supporters of the
Dakota Access Pipeline that believe the environmental risks are just possibilities that warrant a close
watch on the pipeline and not the total halt of its construction. However, there is a prime example that
shows what could happen with the Dakota Access Pipeline, case in point, the Keystone XL Pipeline.
The Keystone XL Pipeline was commissioned in 2010 and runs from Canada all the way to Texas. The
previous pipeline, Keystone, faced some of the same opposition and problems. It was being said at the
time that the Keystone Pipeline would increase greenhouse gas emission and that will further affect
and advance global warming issues that our planet already faces, which it did. According to usanews,
After being commissioned in 2010, it reportedly recorded 35 leaks in its first year alone, including a
spill of 21,000 gallons of oil in North Dakota (Neuhauser, 2016). Another example would be the BP
Oil spill that still to this day, affecting marine and mammal life. It becomes clear that these risk
become eminent and the construction of any future pipeline warrants great consideration. In addition,

Media s Impact On The Media
Most of us watch television or listen to the radio on our commute in order to be up to date with the
surrounding events. We depend on those sources of mass media to relay relevant and reliable
information in order for us to understand pressing issues and formulate our opinions pertaining to the
best approach in dealing with those issues. But what if the information relayed to us is biased and
skewed or worse yet if those sources of information divert attention away from pressing matters and
place the individuals in an oblivious state.
The fact of the matter is that news organizations are more trusted sources of information than are
many other institutions, including government and business. And the public s impression of the

safety officials were investigating an issue with certain GE airplane engines that had faulty parts that
can disintegrate and cause a catastrophic failure, a problem that affected more than four thousand

this information to be very important to the public and that it needs to be covered by the news channel
he worked for which was CNBC at the time, part of NBC network. But since NBC is owned by GE
the agency decided not to run the story.
Another persistent matter is the distraction and the diversion of public attention by the media, a
strategy that is used as the primary element of social control. Its sole goal is to drive attention away
from important issues and changes determined by the political and economic elites, by the technique
of flooding continuous distractions and insignificant information.

Reflection About Dolphins
Dolphins are a widely known mammal throughout the world. Mainly known for performing at
aquariums such as sea world, not many people have seen wild dolphins. Being from the Florida Keys I
have been lucky enough to be able to see these animals in their natural habitat. Dolphins are part of
the family of toothed whales that also include Orcas. They normally grow to about 8 feet long and
weight up to about 600 pounds. They are carnivores and their diet consist of different species of fish
and squid. Dolphins normally will hunt in groups called Pods which they use sonar to help them find
food from a distance away. The interesting thing about sonar vision is that dolphins can use this signal
to visualize what the object is that lies ahead of them. Like how humans can visualize an object by
touching it they can get a visualization of an object by scanning it with their sonar. They communicate
in many ways to each other first is by sound which consist of whistles and different clicking sounds.
Another way they communicate is by visual movement such as breaching, jumping and falling back
into the water, and by moving either their pectoral or tail fin. They have streamlined bodies and have a
relatively high muscle mass which allow them to swim up to speeds of 35 miles per hour. They do
swim normally at about 20 miles per hour and can do this for a consistent amount of time. Dolphins
are also widespread throughout the world but like to stay in warmer water regions. However, they

Example Of P2p Energy System
2 Applications for this research in Industry
A peer to peer electricity system would optimise the last mile of the distribution grid. In fact, the most
direct benefit sits below the level 1 transformer. If the local community can move electricity and
balance the grid on a local level, below the level 1 transformer, there is a reduction in the remaining
grid infrastructure. I will illustrate this reduction using a simple example, that of a new house with
3kw of general load and 16 kW of air conditioning that replaces an old house with 3 kW peak load
(kettle, stove, and fridge). The new house turns on the 16kw air conditioned only at times when the
grid is at its peak (during hot weather.) The grid infrastructure in a business as usual ... Show more

This is seen in the report Emerging Technologies Information Paper (AEMO, 2015) and the domestic
customer has now emerged with a clear voice in Australian energy planning.
The neighbourhood effects of PV adoption researched by Graziano et al. (2014) means that this
research could be used in government policy to develop communities that would share energy
resources and reduce the peak load on the electricity network (hence reducing infrastructure costs.)
Newman in a 2010 CSIRO publication covered the relevant policy and social dynamics in Australia
((Newman et al., 2010). Their focus in this paper was on the role of renewable energy in building
resilience into Australian cities. Peter Newman is a specialist in socio ecology systems but in my view
missed the need for the consumer to engage in trading and sharing of energy resources before the
economics of renewable energy can be acceptable to the broader society. His view is that integration
of more renewables is possible ipso facto. I argue that to do this, policy development must allow
sharing and trading of electricity.

Marxist View of the Capitalistic Mode of Production and...
Karl Marx s view on the capitalistic mode of production highlights the exploitative nature of this
economic system and points to its development as a necessary continuation of feudal societies many
centuries ago. He demonstrates how the bourgeoisie take advantage of the labor power of the
proletariat, creating profit and fueling the expansion necessary to keep profit margins at acceptable
levels. Marx argues that this economic system, in which capital is the basis of wealth, sprung from the
fall of feudalism when the means of production made obsolete the feudalistic relations of production,
in which ownership of land was the basis of wealth. His claim, therefore, that capitalistic societies are
exploitative class societies is true when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This upper class then finds a market in which the fruits of proletariat labor can be reaped at a higher
price, and the surplus value of that transaction is hoarded by the bourgeoisie. It is important to note
that these wealthy persons have considerable incentive to reinvest their profits into the means of
production, thereby improving technology and lowering input costs, but at the same time furthering
the dependence of the proletariat on the bourgeoisie by making the prospect of a return to the old
modes of production increasingly less viable. However, Marx argues that this process cannot sustain
itself without the fulfillment of certain conditions. The capitalist mode of production relies upon an
expanding market and the constant overhaul of the means of production, though these requirements
are not always met and the result is economic crises. Marx argues that it is essential for these
conditions to be met in order to keep profit margins from falling to unacceptable levels at which the
economy will inevitably sink into depression or recession. However, he also acknowledges the
impossibility of maintaining economic stability over the long run and submits that there will always be
instances of economic crisis. Marx s reasoning demonstrates how the capitalist mode of production
arose from the fall of feudalistic

The Chris Ofili Controversy Essay example
The Chris Ofili Controversy
Most people may not know who Chris Ofili is, but chances are that many of them know one of his
works, his painting The Holy Virgin Mary , displayed at the Brooklyn Museum of Art s Sensation
exhibition in 1999. The painting was extremely controversial because of Mary s exposed breast being
made of elephant dung and because of the porno cutouts surrounding Mary. Mayor Rudolph Giuliani
and others, saying that such works were not appropriate for public display, immediately attacked the
painting, along with the entire showcase of art by different artists. These sharp criticisms were an
extreme injustice, condemning the work The Holy Virgin Mary based on prejudiced views of what is
and what is not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In order to gain a better understanding of how Ofili sees the work, it is important to look at the
background of the artist. Chris Ofili was born in Manchester, England, though his parents were both
born in Lagos. It is interesting to note that Ofili was raised as a Catholic, and even served as an altar
boy. He also continues to attend church, though not regularly. By the time his Holy Virgin Mary was
displayed, Ofili was already a rising young artist in England, having been included three times in the
Whitworth Young Contemporaries shows and winning a British Council Travel fellowship to
Zimbabwe, where he claims to have had an epiphany. While in Zimbabwe, he hit upon the idea of
sticking elephant dung to his art, and began using it regularly. Ofili liked working with it so much that
he not only used it in his paintings, but mounted his works on clumps of it, saying, It s a way of
raising the paintings up from the ground and giving them a feeling that they ve come from the earth
rather than simply being hung on a wall (qtd. in Cosentino 2). He enjoys using elephant dung so much
that he plans to continue using it, and although his first batch of dung was from Zimbabwe, he now
gets deliveries from the London Zoo. It is from his African background and experience in Zimbabwe
that he has gotten the ideas for his works, and it must be realized when looking at The Holy Virgin
Mary that it is based

Theories Of Successful Aging
It is a medically proven fact that after a certain age, usually in our middle years, physical and
cognitive health will start declining. Our bodies simply begin shutting down when we reach a certain
age, regardless of how well we have taken care of them. For some, old age is synonymous with dread
and foreboding. For others, it is only a number representing another phase of life and it should be
enjoyed thoroughly. This prescription for successfully aging is applicable to both the individual aging
as well as those who interact with elderly individuals. Every person will have their own definition of
what it means to successfully age. Theories of successful aging developed over the years attempt to
explain what it means to successfully age. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A prime example is a decline in eyesight as one ages. An elder who loves to read books can no longer
read without glasses. They optimize their situation by using reading glasses or buying large print
books to compensate for their decreased eyesight. Another example is a golfer who can no longer walk
the 18 holes and optimizes his situation by using a golf cart to compensate for his inability to walk
long distances. In both examples, the people are selecting activities they enjoy, optimizing their
situation by implementing devices to compensate for their deficiencies. The Selective Optimization
with Compensation process allows individuals to continue to maximize their chosen life courses,

A study by Skogan in 1990, indicates that the effects of this perception of neighborhood decline range from a decrease in property values to an increase in crime, or at least an increase in criminals perception that crime will be tolerated (as in Florida Litter Study, 1998). This study goes on to explain that as people s perceptions of neighborhood decline increase, it is more likely that crime will occur and that criminals will be drawn to the area because it appears more likely that criminal behavior will be tolerated or ignored. • 5. Environmental Benefits Of Green Roofs Introduction There are several ecological and environmental benefits of green roofs which have consequentially brought in increasing interests in this technology. A green roof, as a carpeting of plants on the roof of buildings, offers many benefits in addition to enhancing its aesthetic value. Primarily, green roofs have the ability to delay the storm runoff peak occurrence, thus reducing the peak flow rate and mitigating flood risks. Another benefit is its thermal insulation potential that reduces the urban heat island effect. They also help with pollution abatement, carbon sequestration, biodiversity conservation, and general improvement of life quality in urban ecosystems (Xiaosheng et al. 2014). Green roofs generally consist of a rather simple layering covering the rooftop, including a waterproof layer, a water retention layer and a drainage/filter layer topped with substrate with different depths according to both maximum load capacity of the roof and vegetation type to be grown (Nardini et al. 2012). However, while there has not so much attention about the relative importance of vegetation structure and composition in determining the ecosystem and technical functions of green roofs, in the last years, a number of studies have reported significant impacts of vegetation type on stormwater runoff management (VanWoert et al. 2005). Essay on Analysis of Rita Dove’s, “Daystar” C Stevens 07/09/2010 Professor Kierath English 102.212 Analysis of Rita Dove s, Daystar Daystar by Rita Dove is an expressive poem, which centers on the main character, a young mother and wife, who internally struggles with her burdensome, daily duties, which creates a lack of freedom in her world. Dove s choice of words lets the reader empathize with her confined life. In this poem, irony exists for the mere fact that from birth to adulthood the female population is brought up to feel fulfilled by simply becoming a wife and mother; however, this poem describes the monotonous duties and the joyless bond that can be between husband and wife. Additionally, the main character s husband shows some selfish tendencies in the fact that he may not notice his wife s discontentment with his affection. However, this may also present the lack of communication between man and wife and therefore may cause a sense of isolation from her husband. The main character possesses the characteristics of most young women, a full plate of responsibility and the lack of freedom that can wither away a person s soul. My response to this poem is that I strongly respect the author for bringing up such a controversial issue such as discontentment with being a stay at home mother, since this is usually to be expected of women. Dove explains the poem delicately and leaves the underlying sense that she may have possibly been through the situation herself. This being said, her imagery is wonderfully used and the metaphor of the doll being slumped over is a brilliant way to reflect upon the main character s feelings and actions. The most prominent examples in Oroonoko are their treatment of the slaves and how they are punished. In Gulliver s Travels the evidence revolves around how petty, destructive, illogical, and unreasonable human beings act. This is Oroonoko s response to the captain s betrayal upon their arrival to Surinam. The captain sold Oroonoko to the first bidder when they arrived and not only that they also sold him to a different owner than his other men. But this is only the tip of how savage the Europeans behaved. After Oroonoko, known by this time by his slave name Caesar, had given rise to a revolution he was put to death. The manner in which he was killed is the saddest and most savage display of cruelty. Oroonoko was publicly dismembered and then his body parts were to be distributed to the plantations in order to scare the other slaves into submission. And the executioner came and cut off his members, and threw them into the fire. After that, with an ill favored knife, they cut his ears and his nose, and burned them; he still smoked on, as if nothing had touched him he gave up the ghost, without a groan, or a reproach, [p. 341]. Though some of the gory details are omitted in this quote, it is easy to see the cruelty used in his dismemberment and also the desire to inflict as pain as possible. Something that caught my attention while reading of his death was the choice of words used to describe how Oroonoko s body was hacked apart. To hack at something is to cut it with crude, harsh, and irregular swings. The words mutilate and mangle are commonly used in the definition of hack. In Gulliver s Travels the author ... They are also keeping the child s sex a secret, although it is not clear if they are trying to allow the child to define its sex. Gender and sex are two different distinctions that are often mistakenly seen as the same thing. Society places gender expectations based on sex, so it s easy to see why they are looked at as the same thing. It s important to remember that gender represents a choice, while sex is determined before you are born. The option of choosing is important when considering the ethics of raising a child. It s why I believe that it is ethical to allow a child to define their gender and unethical to allow a child to define their sex. There are three common arguments against allowing a child to define their gender. The first common argument is that the child will bullied and may not be mature enough to handle it. Unfortunately, children can be bullied for a number of reasons regardless of their gender. Parents do not allow bullying to affect other decisions and they should not allow bullying to interfere with who their child wants to be either. It is he one doing the bullying that has a problem, not their child. The second common argument against allowing a child to define their gender is that friends and family will disapprove. In the mid 1990 s, the existing rules of evidence were replaced by the Uniform Evidence Act s, as a means whereby consistency of decision making could be better observed. These new rules lay out standards which must be strictly adhered to, to ensure that the rights of both parties to a case are respected, allowing for a fair trial to take place. The specific act which will be used is dependent on the jurisdiction of the court itself; all High Court, Federal Court, Family Court, Federal Magistrates Court, and ACT courts are subject to The Evidence Act (Cth). The Tasmanian, New South Wales and Victorian Evidence Acts are marginally different from that of the Commonwealth, however generally speaking they are the same with a few minor differences . Under the Uniform Evidence Act s, regardless of whether or not a certain piece of evidence meets the relevant admissibility requirements, a judge in certain circumstances can use their discretion to exclude pieces of evidence that are unfairly prejudicial on the part of the accused, which could have a negative effect on juries assessment of a fact in issue. The mother contemplates outrageous solutions to this problem, such as murder, but after sound advice from her beloved maid, she decides against it, and together formulate a plan to get rid of one of her daughters. They decide to abandon the child in a church so that she could be adopted and raised by someone else. Before giving up her child, the mother wraps her baby in a lavish brocade that her husband had brought back from the Crusades and tied to it a fine ring. The maid leaves the child on an ash tree around the church, where she was found and automatically assumed to be nobility. As stated in To Follow in Their Footsteps by Nicholas Paul, when the First Crusades ended, happy crusaders returned to Europe bringing with them stories, memorabilia, sacred relics, fine jewelry and weapons. The Crusaders brought with them lavish ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 25. 1984 Book Essay 1984 Essay What do you think a normal human being needs to have a good, hearty life? What are the most basic needs that are vital to one s survival? According to Maslow s hierarchy of needs, physiological needs are those required to sustain life, such as air, water, nourishment, and sleep. If such needs are not satisfied, then one s motivation will arise from the quest to satisfy them. Higher needs such as social needs and esteem are not felt until one has met the needs basic to one s bodily functioning. Beyond the details of air, water, food, and sex, Maslow laid out five broader layers: the physiological needs, the needs for safety and security, the needs for love and belonging, the needs for esteem, and the need to actualize the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Physiological needs are the needs that take the highest priority and they include the need for food, water, air, exercise, etc. Winston gets sufficient amount of food to fill him up. However, the food is not very satisfying. When Winston was at the grille eating with Syme, Winston had taken up his spoon and was dabbling in the pale colored gravy that dribbled across the table...He meditated resentfully on the physical texture of life. Had it always been like this? Had food always tasted like this? He looked around the canteen. A low ceilinged crowded room...bent spoons, dented trays, coarse white mugs; all surfaces greasy grime in every crack; and a sourish, composite smell of bad gin and bad coffee and metallic stew... (Orwell 52). This shows that Winston is not in a state of hunger, implying that he has enough food to keep him alive. But even though Winston has enough food to sustain his existence, the food he gets to eat is very unpleasant and distasteful. Furthermore, Winston s physiological needs are not quite met through the morning workouts, known as the physical jerks. The telescreen wakes Winston up in the very early mornings to inform him to get up to do the Physical jerks. The Physical Jerks would begin in three minutes. The next moment he was doubled up by a violent coughing fit which nearly always attacked him soon after waking up so early. Lines Composed A Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey By William... 3 Messages from Tintern (Pages 780 785) The poem, Lines Composed a Few Miles Above Tintern Abbey, by William Wordsworth is a poem that works from the simple to the complex. William Wordsworth is a generation one romantic poet. The poems are meant to be short and brief, but the poem Tintern is quite a bit longer. This poem by Wordsworth was written in 1798, during his second visit to the valley of the River Wye and what s left of Tintern Abbey, which was once a great medieval church, in Wales. Wordsworth hasn t visited Tintern Abbey in five years, and this time he has brought his sister along with him. In the poem, Tintern, the three main messages I got from the text would be, love, the beauty of nature, and time. One of the major factors in Tintern is that the poem shows love. He does not only show love for nature, but he shows love to his sister and overall the setting of the place. Wordsworth has not visited Tintern in five years, but this time he has brought along his sister Dorothy with him. He wants to show his sister the beauty of it. • 27. Theme Of Revenge In Hamlet Ojea Quintana 1 Lucas Ojea Quintana Mr. Sather AP English 3: Section 1 23 October 2017 The Delay of Revenge Shakespeare s Tragedy Hamlet, demonstrates how humans have to answer one question throughout their life, To be, or not to be. This question can apply to anything and anyone and asks if a person should act or not. The ghost is a character who rarely appears, but offers Hamlet the significant life long question, Hamlet must answer. Throughout the play Hamlet wonders if he should kill Claudius or not which is the basis of the question, to be or not to be. Hamlet does not successfully answer that question and he does not act when he should, which ends up killing him. The ghost affects the theme of revenge because he calls upon Hamlet to avenge him and Hamlet s legacy. Although deeply sorrowed by his father s death, Hamlet did not consider payback as an option until he meets with the ghost of his father. The ghost tells Hamlet King Claudius, his own brother, murdered him. Then the ghost tells Hamlet to revenge his foul and most unnatural murder? (I.v.25). Although murder was an acceptable form of revenge in Hamlet s time he is uncertain about killing Claudius. However, upon his father s command, Hamlet reluctantly swears to get revenge against Claudius. Hamlet does this not because he wants to, but because his father makes it clear that it is his duty as a son, and so Hamlet should not disappoint his perfect father. Hamlet promises to prove his love and duty by killing Claudius. Ojea Quintana 2 The idea of revenge is illustrated in many ways throughout the play. The appearance of the ghost introduces appearance versus reality. When Claudius is at prayer, Hamlet had a perfect opportunity to kill him but he did not want revenge for just punishment in his life, he wanted revenge for punishment for eternity. Hamlet thinks that killing Claudius in his state of purity do this same villain send /To heaven. /Why, this is hire and salary, not revenge! (III.iii.76) will make Claudius go to heaven which is much more than he deserves. The Album of La Revue Blanche, a collection of prints commissioned by the late 19th century Parisian anarchist journal, provides not only an insight into popular fin de siècle French print culture, but also a beautiful case study in the techniques developed by leading artists in the realm of fine art lithography. It is the goal of this exhibit to explore the place of the graphic arts in early modern art through the example of this journal, and to examine more closely the stylistic hallmarks of the lithograph in a more detailed way. Lithography: Method Lithography is planographic printing process that makes use of the immiscibility of grease and water. In the lithographic process, ink is applied to a grease treated image on the flat printing surface. Non image areas hold moisture and repel the lithographic ink. This inked surface is then printed by means of a special press as in most fine art printmaking . The earliest though no longer the only method of creating lithographs involved the use of a block of porous limestone. An image is drawn with tusche a carbon pigment in liquid form, and litho crayon a type of grease pencil before the printing surface is fixed, moistened, and inked in preparation for printing. Being from the Florida Keys I have been lucky enough to be able to see these animals in their natural habitat. Dolphins are part of the family of toothed whales that also include Orcas. They normally grow to about 8 feet long and weight up to about 600 pounds. They are carnivores and their diet consist of different species of fish and squid. Dolphins normally will hunt in groups called Pods which they use sonar to help them find food from a distance away. The interesting thing about sonar vision is that dolphins can use this signal to visualize what the object is that lies ahead of them. Like how humans can visualize an object by touching it they can get a visualization of an object by scanning it with their sonar. They communicate in many ways to each other first is by sound which consist of whistles and different clicking sounds. Another way they communicate is by visual movement such as breaching, jumping and falling back into the water, and by moving either their pectoral or tail fin. They have streamlined bodies and have a relatively high muscle mass which allow them to swim up to speeds of 35 miles per hour. In fact, the most direct benefit sits below the level 1 transformer. If the local community can move electricity and balance the grid on a local level, below the level 1 transformer, there is a reduction in the remaining grid infrastructure. I will illustrate this reduction using a simple example, that of a new house with 3kw of general load and 16 kW of air conditioning that replaces an old house with 3 kW peak load (kettle, stove, and fridge). Karl Marx s view on the capitalistic mode of production highlights the exploitative nature of this economic system and points to its development as a necessary continuation of feudal societies many centuries ago. He demonstrates how the bourgeoisie take advantage of the labor power of the proletariat, creating profit and fueling the expansion necessary to keep profit margins at acceptable levels. Marx argues that this economic system, in which capital is the basis of wealth, sprung from the fall of feudalism when the means of production made obsolete the feudalistic relations of production, in which ownership of land was the basis of wealth. This upper class then finds a market in which the fruits of proletariat labor can be reaped at a higher price, and the surplus value of that transaction is hoarded by the bourgeoisie. However, Marx argues that this process cannot sustain itself without the fulfillment of certain conditions. The capitalist mode of production relies upon an expanding market and the constant overhaul of the means of production, though these requirements are not always met and the result is economic crises. Marx argues that it is essential for these conditions to be met in order to keep profit margins from falling to unacceptable levels at which the economy will inevitably sink into depression or recession.
