Spies Identity
Throughout Making History and Spies the struggle for identity is a theme and how the period can
influence the protagonist s selfhood. Making History explores Hugh O Neill s endeavour as he is
forced to choose between his allegiance to the Irish, his birthplace, and his loyalty to England. O Neill
is in the battle of Kinsale during the sixteenth century; similarly, in Spies, the protagonist Stephen is
within a country at war. In the nineteen forties, World War Two caused German Jews to escape the
Nazi regime, often to Britain. Whilst there, the Germans were given false English names to detract
attention from their true identity. This causes confusion for the protagonist of Spies as his name
Stephen Wheatley is false, and he is living within a country that he does not belong to. Friel s ... Show

Friel uses the characters of O Neill and Mabel as microcosms to portray the conflict of the two during
the sixteenth century. In Act 1 Hugh O Neill is portrayed as a formidable and influential character;
towards the end we see that he is no longer the man Friel presented him to be, he is torn between the
Gaelic civilisation and the British. For example he displays his divided identity and seeks recognition
from the other characters within the play of which country he should be loyal to. We can see this
through his utterance to Mabel in Act 2, Which hand should I grasp? . This suggests that he is not
assertive and the division in his identity is a prominent part of his life. In Spies the young protagonist
also looks for recognition, similar to O Neill when contemplating which country he must be loyal to.
Stephen seeks recognition from Keith of how he must act or the ways in which he must say things. For
example Keith gives the protagonist a disapproving look when he says Schnick schnack , a German

Additionally, the Italian system is rather lax on DNA evidence. A defendant can be positively
identified yet, depending on the arguments by the attorney, an acquittal can be secure. In contrast, the
U.S. criminal procedures take evidence of DNA very seriously, and can form a strong basis of
exculpatory evidence against any defendant. Furthermore, in the Italian criminal procedure, the court
assumes that the motive of the defendant rather protected is not left open for speculation. This is
unlike the U.S. criminal procedure where, despite strong evidence linking a defendant to a crime
scene, the motive is a vast issue of deliberation (Mirabella, 2012). The Amanda Knox trial s public
coverage and broadcast has often been criticized by American legal minds for lack of fairness, because
there were allegations that the live commentators by experts could tilt the course of justice (Nadeau,
2010). In the U.S. criminal procedure, the jury swears not to be influenced by the public debates. In
fact, the U.S. courts can issue an injunction to the media on the limits of their coverage and debates
(Duggan, 1995). Some legal experts have always expressed dissatisfaction with Italian criminal
procedure use to reform other international laws (Mirabella, 2012). Overall, the Italian criminal
procedures consist of three main stages. These are the investigations,

The Cultural Norm In Ken Kesey s Chief Bromden
The 1960 s were a time in which Americans started questioning everything they knew to be true,
which is reflected in the personal experiences and writings of Ken Kesey (1935 2001). He provoked
readers to think outside of the cultural norms through his many provocative novels. Although Kesey
was raised in a typical all American family, his experiences as a graduate student at Stanford
University eventually led him to become one of the most prominent leaders of counterculture in the
1960 s. Kesey s controversial government sponsored drug use, involving LSD and other psychedelic
drugs, strongly influenced his literary works and rebellion against social mores. Kesey s drug use
eventually inspired him to write what many consider to be his greatest ... Show more content on

Throughout the novel, the characters slowly begin to challenge authority and stand up for themselves
against the ruthless control of Nurse Ratched. When McMurphy first steps into the ward, he
immediately makes everyone in the hospital uncomfortable with his carefree laughter. At first I see
that he s making everybody over there feel uneasy, with all his kidding and joking and with the brassy
way he hollers at that black boy who s still after him with a thermometer, and especially with that big
wide open laugh of his (Kesey 17). All of the patients in the hospital are immune to laughter because
they are victims of the combine. The central conflict in the novel revolves around the power struggle
between Nurse Ratched and McMurphy. McMurphy has no qualms; he is careless and crude. Nurse
Ratched is a ruthless dictator, who strongly encourages patients to follow her rules in order to avoid
harsh consequences. McMurphy recognizes this immediately and becomes the chief leader of
rebellion in the novel. He encourages gambling on the ward, deviously plans a party in the middle of
the night (which includes sneaking in prostitutes, drugs, and alcohol), and challenges Nurse Ratched s
authority every chance he gets. The hospital is a metaphor for the conformist society in the 1950 s.
Kesey is trying to convey that the true insanity is not within the patients of the hospital, but the
hospital itself. The staff at

Cash Management Comparison
Cash Management Comparison Many organizations make a financial goal to minimize the amount of
cash on hand on a monthly basis. This goal is based on attempting to reduce the amount of non
earning assets for the company. Cash on hand that is not required to meet a specific need could be
placed in an interest bearing account or used to pay down on a credit balance, also reducing the
amount of interest a company would have to pay on a loan. Minimizing cash balances as well as
having accurate knowledge of when cash moves into and out of the company can improve overall
corporate profitability. (Block Hirt, 2004, pg. 175). As companies find a need to supplement business

notes are government obligations with a maturity of 1 to 10 years, and they may be purchased with

Sir Launfal
Playing out the lay is announcing one particular variant of the story, which suggests a strong emphasis
on the reality of the story. General society articulation of the lay, with its going to protestations of
truth, echoes a noteworthy topic on the diegetic level as the sonnet is famously worried about
falsehoods. For sure, the ballad continues focusing on the significance of open remarks made on
private matters and presents what Anderson called an interior group of onlookers, that reacts to
Launfal s changing fortunes in the lay. Most important strides in the story they are remarked through
some illustrative of general society voice, which along with these lines both echoes and bends truths in
dialect creation. There is, as a result, no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

slim body with blonde hair can make women beautiful. If women are not slim, then they think
themselves that they were not much beautiful as they have to be, so they worship the body image and

Significance Of The Arts And Crafts Movement
CULTURAL SOCIAL SIGNIFICANCE The arts crafts movement is not important for its designs,
but for the ideology it created. This ideology would inspire future movements, artists and designers,
such as the Bauhaus, Jugendstil workshops and the Modern Movement. It was one of the most
powerful, successful and influential movements in the design history of the modern era. It began in
Britain around 1880s and quickly spread across America and Europe during the 20th century before
emerging finally as the Mingei (Folk Crafts) movement in Japan. The movement was developed as a
rebellion against the industrial revolution. The invention of mass production resulted in loss of
stylistic variety. Which it believed had robbed the worker of the ability ... Show more content on

Germany The Germans such as Josef Hoffman would opt for a more simple and geometric style,
which would lead to a large influence in the style of Charles Rennie Macintosh s designs for Art
Nouveau. America The largest difference was in the design opted by the different continent of the US.
Americans kept to the ideology of William Morris but on the contrary they didn t dismiss the use of
machinery. By using controlled methods of mass production, the Americas would hence achieve what
William Morris desired. Due to the exploitation of machinery Americans created cheap well made
products for the masses. Britain Britain would fail in this aspect since their handmade products were
very expensive to purchase and thus their products were made for the higher or middle class.
DESIGNERS The most influential and most important people are the main founders of the Arts Crafts
movement that were designer William Morris and philosopher John Ruskin. With their help this
movement, re established craftsmanship. They also believed that native materials and traditions should
be exploited. They encouraged spiritual harmony and Individualism. John

Kennedy Middle School Garden Case Study
The Kennedy Middle School fifth grade class is growing a school garden. The students are very
excited to grow a garden, but animals have been eating the goods, so a fence needs to be put in. The
total cost to fence in the garden will be $159. The class calculated this by finding the perimeter (in
feet) and multiplying it by the cost per foot of fence, $1.50. The Pythagorean Theorem a2 +b2=c2
helped find the hypotenuses of the two right triangles that the garden can be broken into, which helped
the find the perimeter. The class first wrote the Pythagorean Theorem, which is a2 +b2=c2, to find the
hypotenuses of the triangles. The legs of the triangles were represented by a and b and the hypotenuse
was represented by c. After writing the equation,

The Spanish Dream Of Christopher Columbus And The American...
Thesis The initial Spanish settlers were both successful and not successful as well in achieving their
American Dream in due to the fact that they had the missions and their control over California as well
as lost all of their hold on California and the missions because of the Mexicans that rebelled against
the Spanish Crown.12
Origins
The Spanish were a group of people from the great country of Spain in Europe. The rulers at the time,
Ferdinand the Second of Aragon and Isabella of Castille was able to finance one man. The man was
the legendary explorer of the seas, Christopher Columbus.3 He was the one who started the Spanish
interest of the Americas. He showed the Crown what the Americas have.
Christopher Columbus was the one to land in the Americas first for the Spanish Empire, but not the
first Spaniard to land and set up Spain s grip on the Northern Americas, especially in California. That
belonged to Hernan Cortés. Cortés s voyage was first funded by a third party, Diego Velázquez. The
voyage before the its original sail out date was canceled by Diego Velázquez and Cortés s voyage was
lost. Cortés got word of this and sailed out the night before the original sail date before anything could
happen to it and him in 1519.45 He wanted his chance to explore the world and to look for the
legendary Strait of Anián. The Strait of Anián was this pathway from the Americas to the Far East in
Asia that no explorer has found.6 Cortés landed in the middle of the Americas and found out about the
Aztec Empire that was ruled by Montezuma after he set up a fishing village called Pontonchan. Cortés
first went to Tenochitlán, the City of Dreams , and was shocked to see the advancement that the Aztecs
had.78 He also found out about what the Aztecs do in their free time. The Aztecs were violent to their
neighbors, they were cannibals, and the Aztecs performed human sacrifices.9 This was a good motive
for Cortés to conquer the Aztec empire. Cortés wanted to push more North as well, but could not get
far.
Cortés got up to Baja California in the 1530 s. Another explorer, after Cortés, went to push into Alta
California. He was Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo. Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo pushed up a good distance into
Alta California

Rhetorical Analysis
The 1980 s were an interesting time for American television. Viewership was steadily increasing, and
the amount of family time spent in front of the television screen was steadily declining. This was
mainly due to the new format of television, shows were no longer for all viewers, but instead had
target audiences; MTV was actually starting to show music videos, reality television was a new a
popular form of television, and Saturday morning cartoons were a part of every child s weekly routine.

Enlightenment And Enlightenment Statement
The Treaty of Paris (1783) was a document signed between Great Britain and the United States to end
the Revolutionary War. The Treaty of Paris was signed on September 3, 1783 in Paris, France. The
Treaty of Paris had been created to end the Revolutionary War and bring freedom to the United States.
The Treaty of Paris was significant because it stopped the Revolutionary War, created borders, and
made the U.S. a sovereign nation.
The Emancipation Proclamation was an executive order made by President Lincoln that freed slaves
in rebellious states. The Emancipation Proclamation was signed on January 1, 1863 after the Battle of
Antietam in Maryland. The main reason why this executive order had been issued was because slavery
was still prevalent prior to January 1, 1863. The Emancipation Proclamation was significant because it
had abolished slavery in rebellious states.
Mary Wollstonecraft was a fighter for women s suffrage. In addition to being an advocate for women s
rights, she was also an English writer. Mary Wollstonecraft was known for being a part of the
Enlightenment period. The Enlightenment period had taken place during the 18th century in Europe.
Mary Wollstonecraft was important because she produced a book called A Vindication of the Rights of
Woman in 1792. Mary Wollstonecraft was also significant because she justified women s rights for

The Pros And Cons Of Year-Round Education
Gone are the days of children getting off of school to help their family farms during the summer. Now,
children as well as the teachers get out for some much needed relaxation. So why do we still follow
the same schedule? It seems every school year the discussion of year round education captures the
attention of the general public. Is it time for year round education (YRE) to be the new norm?
Ultimately, there are not that many pros for year round schooling to be the new thing and the
traditional 180 day schedule should be kept.
Many schools across the America have tried implementing year round education. However, some
school districts that tried YRE go back to the 180 day schedule (Sardo Brown, Deborah, and Michael
Rooney 1). When year round education is proposed most of the time opposition is met. In 1992,
parents of a possible pilot school were surveyed on their thoughts. 59% of the parents responded.
There was an overwhelming amount of rejection. Just 10% of those surveyed favored YRE where
83% were against (Sardo Brown, Deborah, and Michael Rooney 1).
So why is there such opposition for year round school? The concerns seem to arise with the idea of
taking away summer vacation. Most cite that both the students and the teachers need a break from
school. This also the time where many families have vacation. Summer is the time where family spend
time together without homework and project due dates looming over the students. This looming
inevitably happens during the

Three Activities in Human Resource Management
Three Activities in Human Resource Management
Introduction
With the process of globalization and internationalization, multinational firms develop rapidly. What
is the multinational firm? It should be called multinational corporation (MNCs) which is more
academic. An MNC is a company physically active in more than one country, like McDonald, Nestle,
Ford etc.
General speaking, Human Resource Management plays an essential role for an enterprise, especially
for a multinational enterprise. What is Human Resource Management? Noe et al. (2006: 5) defined
HRM that HRM refers to the policies, practices and systems that influence employee behavior,
attitudes and performance in order to support business goals and objectives while Dowling ... Show

Therefore, in general, the majority of employees are HCNs while the senior managers are PCNs and
TCNs in the earlier operation of a subsidiary. In the process of local development of subsidiaries, the
system of operation become mature and HCNs become more familiar for companies policies,
methods, technology and management etc. so it is necessary and brilliant to expand the space of
promotions for HCNs in the late operation. That is to say, increasing the proportion of HCNs in the
senior managers in the late operation can bring lots of benefits for company. For example, it will cut
down the cost efficiently and motivate the local staff to work harder significantly.
The second HR activity is about compensation and benefits. Firstly, this HR activity for multinational
firms involves different currencies and stability of currencies. With the fluctuation of exchange rates, a
foreign currency may appreciate or depreciate, which bring more risk for multinational firms. Also,
with the diversity of nations and cultures, the institution of compensation may vary from parent
company to subsidiary. For example, different countries have different price levels, which lead to
different wage levels. Lastly, according to three categories of employees, the compensation and
benefits are different. Compensation is a key factor to increase satisfaction of staff and job
performance. The main problem about compensation and

Moral Codes
Morality defines us , human beings, by setting the principle for what is right or wrong. The aura
surrounding morality delineates our values and our ability to make critical decisions. Moral codes are
the values that shape us as unique people and they are values that one stands by. Without it, we would
have outlawed thoughts and order in the world dissipates. Like others, moral codes play a substantial
role in my life and they dictate the decisions I make in everyday life. Firstly, the idea that purging of
one s life is unjust is a tenet that I have a strong stance on. Despite the real world repercussions such
as prison and a death sentence, the reason that I believe in it is due to the barrage of guilt that I would
feel. Whether it be a criminal or a person who I despise, it doesn t vindicate the action of murder. In
the heat of a moment, words will be exchanged and tempers can spark but it should never reach that
extent. Taking alternative means and avoiding the confrontation should be the way forward although it
is a hard to come to terms with it. Furthermore, coming from a ... Show more content on

Fear In Hamlet
Hamlet: A Fear y Tale
In Hamlet by William Shakespeare, Prince Hamlet does not prove to be the stereotypical perfect
prince. Shakespeare s choice in making Hamlet vulnerable, anxious and afraid of the stress of his life
allows for the reader to relate to him. Each human experiences fear and its mysteries. However, in
order to move forward in life, it is inevitable to face these fears. Indecisive minds, like Hamlet, can
grow by taking the time to comprehend their fears, letting the fears guide their thoughts and choosing
to use their creative imaginations to make decisions.
When people are struggling with making an important decision for their future, they can become
paralyzed by their constant questioning. They question their capabilities and the uncertainty of the
future makes them anxious. This fear is shown in Hamlet s extensive analysis of his situation. He
exhausts every angle of the problem before making a decision. He questions his capability as a leader,
his anxiety taking over his thoughts. In Act I Scene 5, Hamlet states,
This time is out of joint. O cursed spite,
That ever was I born to set it right! (Hamlet, Act 1 Scene 5, line 205).
Hamlet s fear is crushing his self confidence. If he had taken the time to listen to his fears, his anxiety
would have decreased. Learning how to analyze fear is an important tool in making wise decisions.
According to Karen Walker s TED Talk What Fear Can Teach Us , Fears are a form of unintentional
storytelling (5:23). We are

This is by far the most pressing issue for Shepherd because if he is unable to fully protect his

confronting Shepherd is that the software he created, even though it was development during his own

some sports were also in the Highland games. Wrestling has a very popular sport in this era and was

termination was not willful or intentional, especially where, under the employer s policy, she could not
have been discharged at all prior to this final incident.
Issue: If substantial evidence existed that Rodman s conduct on February 15, considered in light of the
totality of circumstances including her previous history of personal phone calls and unauthorized
visitors, showed a willful or wanton disregard for her employee s interests, then Rodman s benefits
were properly denied.
Rule: We believe that termination for a series of incidents which, taken together, may constitute
misconduct is distinguishable from termination for a single incident following one or more corrective
action notices. In the latter event, as here, we hold that the last straw must demonstrate a willful or
wanton disregard for the employer s interests for unemployment benefits to be denied.

The Interrogation Techniques Used By Military Standards
In August of 2002, without consulting Congress, the Bush administration changed the definition of
torture by military standards to allow for previously illegal interrogation techniques. (Inside
Guantanamo) Bush lost a lot of respect from American citizens for doing this on his own instead of
consulting Congress because it added a lot of suspicion that he was trying to hide something. The
Pentagon organized the interrogation techniques into three categories. The first one included yelling
and deception techniques and the second included sensory deprivation, isolation, stress positions,
extensive interrogation, hooding, clothing removal, and the use of phobias. The third and most severe
category included waterboarding and even death threats. (Greenberg 221) Bush wanted justice to be
served to the men who planned and carried out the deaths of thousands of innocent Americans in the
9/11 terrorist attacks. He thought the families of the thousands killed that day deserved that justice.
Soon after, President Bush sent 14 men to Guantanamo Bay so that justice could be served to them by
the military commissions he had proposed. They were to be put under the custody of the CIA where
they would get what Bush thought they deserved and thanks to the Bybee Memo, Bush had complete,
unlimited power when it came to core war matters such as this. While constitutional, the actions of the
Bush administration as he went behind Congress s back and came up with a new definition for torture

People have been asking what FINA is going to do about the world records set using the now banned
swim suits. Thirty eight of the forty two world records have been broken by swimmers wearing the
LZR Racer while it was legal. Twenty three of these records were set at the 2008 summer Olympics in
Beijing with the suits on. Ninety four percent of the gold medals were won by people wearing these
swim suits and eighty nine percent of the total medals won were by swimmers in these illegal suits
(Cole, 2008). These statistics say a lot about how much the polyurethane swim suits have changed the
sport of competitive swimming. Records are made to be broken, but it is a clear indication that these
suits should not be allowed when twenty three world ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The most plausible option, however, is to place an asterisk mark next to every record set with the
polyurethane swimsuits. Fortunately, FINA has come to this conclusion and from now on the records
set in the LZR Racer swim suits (or in any other now banned swim suit) will remain in their own
separate asterisked category. The old records held before the suits will also stand in a different
category to be broken by people wearing legal swim suits that are FINA approved and are going to
stay FINA approved. FINA has stated that world records in any competition will only be recognized as
world records if the swimmer was wearing a FINA approved swim suit (FINA, 2013). Both of these
categories should be equally credible, the only difference is some records are with the swim suits and
some are without the swim suits. This issue has caused a huge riot throughout competitive swimming.
FINA has done the best they can at covering up a mistake that shouldn t have been made in the first
place; swimming, however, will never be the same. If they bring these suits back, this will all happen
again. Why repeat past mistakes?
Legal Advancement in Swimming Accessories
Much has been done to improve swimming as a sport. After much research and experimenting, we
have learned that by making pools deeper and building gutters around the edges of the pool, we can
reduce the amount of waves working against the swimmer. Lane lines also help keep each swimmers
waves in their own

Don Quixote Foils
In the Spanish novel, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, written by Miguel de
Cervantes, Sancho Panza is conveniently placed throughout the story to be easily compared to others.
Sancho sets the point of being normal or regular for the settings and explains with actions and
appearance how others are. Sancho also verbally expresses the insane manner of his companion more
than once. Sancho s purpose is to not only be the foil, but also to be the reference point and
explanation of the story. Sancho is a neutral character. In chapter three, Tilting at windmills, Cervantes
states an honest, ignorant laborer named Sancho Panza . When compared to Don Quixote, Sancho is
but a simple fellow, and Quixote is a crazed old man who fantasizes being a great knight of great
chivalry. This comparison is that of an obvious one, were Sancho is foil to only Quixote. In chapter
twenty two, on page 152, Cervantes tells of Sancho s Family awaiting his return. This sheds more
light on Sancho s family, as it states later that he has a wife and children. This brings to conclusion
that Sancho has a normal sized family, that consists of normal people, since the text does not state
otherwise. Sancho is a normal guy, with a normal family, who does ... Show more content on

task to make him believe anything, such as the enchantment of the lady Dulcinea. When Sancho States
this, he is of lesser ignorance than that of when he is first found, so it can be clear that words that
Sancho speaks are of no nonsense. Sancho, although not intelligent, but enlightened, tells of the true

Man vs. Self Conflicts in The Lord of the Flies by...
Though The Lord of the Flies never describes a Man vs. Self conflict, there is indeed a definite enemy
among the islanders; haplessly being themselves. Moreover, the retrenchment of the refined attitudes
of the islanders being amended into that of irrational savages is culpable for the tragedies conducted
by the islanders throughout the story. This sort of ancillary and visceral enemy that the islanders
impinge upon is thus apposite to the Man vs. Self conflict style.
To begin, there is a detectable amount of referencing to savagery throughout the story and often it is
what to blame for much of the conflicts in the book as aforementioned. For instance, the frequent and
acerbic collisions among Jack and Ralph with Piggy often describe either Ralph or Jack becoming
savage. In fact, every incident in the book adumbrates to the presence savagery at least peripherally.
For instance, the diurnal (adding wood to fire) was a custom that would most likely have led to the
boys being rescued had they not construed of the existence of a mythical Beast which never transpired
in the physical realm. This conjured beast of superstitious properties precluded an early rescue when it
was created without conferring with logic.
This misconstrued perception heaped upon another was sufficient to effect the death of Simon s very
own life.
As for Piggy s death at Roger s hands, it could be blamed by the diffident Roger s innately sadistic
behaviour that merely inured to a land that

The Party s Domestic And Foreign Policy
Neoconservativism has been defined as a political movement born in the United States during the
1960 s among Democrats who became disenchanted with the party s domestic and especially foreign
policy. That is a fine definition if one grew up in that era and understood what was going on, or if
everyone knew what the parties domestic and foreign policies were. However, not everyone can lay
claim to either of those options as true to them. So one must take the time to understand the rise of this
conservative movement. Once the understanding is established, you must be able to participate in

While the sixties is often painted with the hippie and free love movement there was also a less
publicized string of young conservatives popping up everywhere. These conservatives were anti
communism and against big government, they believed in the free market. Lyndon Johnson was
elected President in 1964, by a landslide. He was practically unopposed. Barry Goldwater was his
competitor, and while Johnson had the JFK assassination on his side, it was Goldwater s crazy ideas
about the Cold War that really made him so undesirable among the people. Extremism just wasn t
okay with the people. An important piece of all this information is that the Democrats won the votes of
the Solid South during that election, which previously had been dependably Republican states. Race
may be one of the largest factors for this. Democrats traditionally had been supporters of the Civil
Rights movement, which caused many white southerners to abandon the Democratic Party. While the
Goldwater election was the first that this was seen, it was the Nixon election that really took
advantage of this. With the southern strategy the white men that left the Democratic Party were
swooped up and now a part of the Republican Party. Nixon was the Tough on Crime candidate, he also
had the anti hippie movement, the moral conservatives, and the anti Civil Rights people. Nixon was

Family And Consumer Sciences Education Essay
Family and Consumer Sciences Education has tremendously evolved since its beginning roots with
Ellen Swallow Richards. FCS has obtained a new role within public schools and the community, far
different than it was before. What was previously seen as the classes for women is now a requirement
for high school graduation plans. The positive societal views of Family and Consumer Sciences is
increasing the development as well as furthering the program. The following analyzes and examines
the Family and Consumer Sciences curriculum that is currently being implemented in Texas public
schools. The role of Family and Consumer Sciences in public school is reflected through multiple
social trends and influences. One of the most dominant and interdependent trends is digital
technology. The world of technology has immensely transformed over the past ten years. These
modifications have revolutionized the way a teacher educates as well as the way a student learns.
Sewing machines, for instance, have been significantly modified. Machines now have a mind of their
own as they can individually function off of the press of a button. This technological advancement
will play a role in how a teacher, who was once taught on a basic machine, instructs. Digital
technology s role in FCS can be clearly depicted through any course of study. As digital technology
continues to evolve, so will the Family and Consumer Sciences courses and the methods of teaching/
learning. FCS also engages in the role

Mortality In Virginia Woolf s The Death Of The Moth
Mortality and the Moth Death is unwelcome news for all human beings, but at the same time, it is an
unavoidable incident that everyone should accept. About this statement, some people might argue that
the death is a part of people s life, while people cannot avoid it. In The Death of the Moth , Virginia
Woolf, the writer of the essay, claims that people should be aware of mortality and accept the death
with a deferential attitude through the observation of the little moth s death throes. The key concepts
of the essay release as the writer illustrates her attitudes that change chronologically as she
comprehends the moth s fierce fight with death. By introducing the essay with a brief but detailed
description of a pleasant morning, mid September (125), she leads the readers to get the background
idea of the moth s upcoming fate. Initially, Woolf s feeling towards the moth was pity and pathetic.
The sentence, ... his zest in enjoying his meager opportunities to the full, pathetic. (125), describes
how the author perceives a moth as a trivial, minor creature. However, after she encounters and
apprehends the moth s furious fights against death, her feeling shifts toward admiration and respect. ...
This gigantic effort on the part of an insignificant little moth, against a power of such magnitude, to
retain what no on else valued or desired to keep, moved one strangely (127). Eventually, the essay
concludes with author s claim on death s strangeness: the true nature of life and death and the
motivational attitude towards the death. Hence, in this paper, I will explore how Woolf expresses her
appreciation towards the moth and the death, and examine the definitions of the life and the death
through the relationship between the moth and Woolf. Throughout The Death of the Moth, the main
theme is derived from the observation and recognition. By observing the moth s little movement to
revive, Woolf recognizes the connection between life and death, and the receptive attitude towards the
death. We usually do not really care or learn a lesson from a moth s behavior. We usually think a moth
is a little, insignificant creature. Same as readers, Woolf initially dismisses and devalues the moth and
his motions.

Optimal Currency Area
Discuss whether the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is an optimal currency
area.
To give an opinion on whether or not the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is
an optimal currency area, first an optimal currency area must be defined. An optimal currency area
was defined by Pilbeam (2013) as A region for which it is optimal to have a common currency and a
common monetary policy . For the ECOWAS to qualify as an optimal currency area it must fulfil
certain criteria, it is unlikely to fulfil all of the criteria entirely, but to be deemed an optimal currency

Financial Integration
This concerns a country s ability to gain external financing. If a country has a high level of financial
integration with the countries surrounding it then it would be able to finance its deficits without the
need to alter the exchange rate and its monetary policy. Therefore an economic community with a high
level of financial integration would be well suited to a monetary union. In the ECOWAS there are
signs of progress towards a higher level of financial integration. This can be seen through the
establishment of the single banking commission (Commission Bancaire de l UMOA) that was created
in 1990 to strengthen regional banking supervision. A regional commercial legal framework
(Organisation pour l Harmonisation du Droit des Affaires en Afrique OHADA) was put in place in
1996. And cross border restrictions have been lifted on banking and other financial services excluding
insurance. (Amadou, 2006)

Soliloquy Of The Spanish Cloister Essay

The Hypocritical Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister
In the dramatic monologue Soliloquy of the Spanish Cloister by Robert Browning, the reader is hurled
into the psychotic ranting s of an unnamed friar. The protagonist of this poem is voicing his hatred for
his fellow monk, Brother Lawrence, as he absentmindedly works in the monastery s garden. The tone
of the poem is filled with disgust, hate, and bitterness, as the friar plays previous encounters with
Brother Lawrence over in his head, mocking his speech as well as his actions. Although the only
description that the reader receives about Brother Lawrence comes from the ranting s of the friar, he
actually does not seem all that terrible. The figures of speech that Browning uses throughout the poem
show the irony of the friar s way of thinking. Since the friar is unaware of his psychotic thought

The friar contemplates several ways to ensure that Brother Lawrence will receive eternal damnation.
His thoughts first wander to brown Dolores, whom is a seemingly beautiful woman; hence the
description the friar gives in the poem. In line thirty, the friar says that he can see his dead eye glow.
Although he imagines that Brother Lawrence will react to brown Dolores s beauty in a lustful manner,
it seems as though the speaker himself is the one who instead reacts this way. Another example that
shows the friar s hypocrisy, is when he plans to have Brother Lawrence simply glace at his dirty

An audit committee is a subcommittee of the board of directors that oversees the financial reporting
process of a company including its audit procedures. In general, the audit committee s responsibilities

internal audit and independent public accounting function (Doupnik Perera, 2012). Another
requirement for publicly traded companies in the United States is that the committee must be made up

Abstinence In Schools
Sex education has been the single most controversial debate in the United States education systems
within the past few decades, but was first introduced as early as 1905 where there was a rally for sex
education within schools in attempts to eradicate venereal disease (The Beginning of Sex Education in
the U.S.: A Historical Perspective). There was not much support at this time though, until the 1980 s
when there was the HIV/AID s epidemic. This was when more people became aware of what was
going on and tried figuring out how to put a stop to it, and quick. Surprisingly, in the early twentieth
century, people were actually taught to be fearful of sex and that such contact could result in fatality.

They argue there is something simply wrong with the idea that teaching kids about risky behavior is
something that could be avoided all together. Some advocates for abstinence only programs argue that
there should not be sex education taught in public schools because it is the parents place to talk about
sex in that much detail with their own child (Should sexual education be taught in public schools?).
However, what happens to the children who do not receive the same, well educated treatment from
their parents as others? Not all children have parents who know all the right information to tell them,
the right answers to their questions, or maybe they just do not care to further explain to them what it is
all about. That is where the school steps in, and teaches them everything they need to know to make
the right choices. They also argue that it could make females a lot more promiscuous as well as males
more curious for themselves. Though, in a study of 35 sex education programs around the world,
statistics from the World Health Organization found there is no evidence that these comprehensive
programs encourage any sort of negative promiscuity or sexual activity (Carnal Knowledge: The sex
ed debate). Some students also say that learning that type of information in the classroom is
sometimes uncomfortable which makes them distracted and not focused in on the main lesson of
sexual education. And even though, according to research, teaching about sex education has positive
impacts on children and provides them all with the information they need to make life affirming
decisions for themselves, opposing groups continue to stand by their beliefs that it has negative
impacts and makes kids so much more tempted to actually do it. However, we still witness a large sum

Sewall used stories from the bible and connected them to worldly situations that were occurring at this
time. For example, he mentions how God hath given the Earth [with all its commodities] unto the sons
of Adam, Psalms 115.16. And hath made of one blood, all nations of men, for to dwell on all the face
of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation: That
they should seek the lord, forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, Acts 17.26,27,29 (Sewall
232). He uses these scriptures to explain to Americans how God has told them to live their lives on his
earth. Everyone is entitled to freedom on his land because they are all equal (because of the blood of
him they all share), and that they should hold to his unchanging hand because he is their father and
will lead them in the right way. John Winthrop used his scriptures to express how people should
become and remain one body of Christ to prosper in the New World they were starting. Ephesians
4.16 says: Christ, by whom all the body being knit together by every joint for the furniture thereof,

Mike Tyson Ethical Dilemmas
A public error causes for a public apology. In athletics, ethical errors are made and must be apologized
for as shown by Mike Tyson. On June 28th in 1997, Mike Tyson bit two chunks of Evander Holyfield
s ears off in a title boxing match in the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada (Weinberg).
Tyson publicly apologized two days later in a news conference and on October 16th in 2009 in an
interview with Oprah Winfrey and Evander Holyfield (Fonzy Foo, Oprah.com). On the June 30th
1997 news conference, Mike Tyson read off of a paper. Tyson thanked everybody for the opportunity
to apologize and said that the event was the worst in his professional boxing career. Tyson said that he
snapped and had never done anything like this before and would never do it again. Tyson apologized
to his family; to the regulators of the fight, the Nevada State Athletic Commission; to his rape case
judge, Patricia Gifford; the place the fight occurred, MGM; the channel that broadcasted the fight,
Showtime; his promoter, Don King; his boxing team; and the city of Las Vegas. Tyson explained that
when Evander Holyfield head butted him, he thought that he might lose the fight due to the severity of
the cut above his eye, so he snapped. Fistfights in basketball, riots in baseball, and spitting on officials
were some examples Tyson listed of athletes losing it. Tyson explained that these athletes were
forgiven and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tyson stated that his apology was insincere and would like to sincerely apologize to Evander
Holyfield in person (Public Apology Central). Four days later, Tyson and Winfrey had another
interview with Holyfield joining after Holyfield reached out to them both. Tyson said that Holyfield is
a beautiful person, they both come from rough neighborhoods, and that Holyfield is an established and
esteemed fighter. Tyson then shook Holyfield s hand and said that it was good being acquainted with

My Education Is the Hope to Achieve My Career Goal
Education should consist of a series of enchantments, each raising the individual to a higher level of
awareness, understanding and kinship with all living things. It is this maxim that urged me to think
higher. Education is the only hope for a person to achieve his career goals. This is what I feel about
education, especially about American Education. I want to attain the highest level of education and
transcend horizons in the chosen field. I have been a keen observer and am well known for probing
new avenues, always enthusiastic and ready with a chain of questions. Knowledge is a familiarity with
someone or something, which can include facts, information, descriptions, or skills acquired through
experience or education. It can ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

  • 2. Spies Identity Throughout Making History and Spies the struggle for identity is a theme and how the period can influence the protagonist s selfhood. Making History explores Hugh O Neill s endeavour as he is forced to choose between his allegiance to the Irish, his birthplace, and his loyalty to England. O Neill is in the battle of Kinsale during the sixteenth century; similarly, in Spies, the protagonist Stephen is within a country at war. In the nineteen forties, World War Two caused German Jews to escape the Nazi regime, often to Britain. Whilst there, the Germans were given false English names to detract attention from their true identity. This causes confusion for the protagonist of Spies as his name Stephen Wheatley is false, and he is living within a country that he does not belong to. Friel s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Friel uses the characters of O Neill and Mabel as microcosms to portray the conflict of the two during the sixteenth century. In Act 1 Hugh O Neill is portrayed as a formidable and influential character; towards the end we see that he is no longer the man Friel presented him to be, he is torn between the Gaelic civilisation and the British. For example he displays his divided identity and seeks recognition from the other characters within the play of which country he should be loyal to. We can see this through his utterance to Mabel in Act 2, Which hand should I grasp? . This suggests that he is not assertive and the division in his identity is a prominent part of his life. In Spies the young protagonist also looks for recognition, similar to O Neill when contemplating which country he must be loyal to. Stephen seeks recognition from Keith of how he must act or the ways in which he must say things. Thesis The initial Spanish settlers were both successful and not successful as well in achieving their American Dream in due to the fact that they had the missions and their control over California as well as lost all of their hold on California and the missions because of the Mexicans that rebelled against the Spanish Crown.12 Origins The Spanish were a group of people from the great country of Spain in Europe. The rulers at the time, Ferdinand the Second of Aragon and Isabella of Castille was able to finance one man. The man was the legendary explorer of the seas, Christopher Columbus.3 He was the one who started the Spanish interest of the Americas. He showed the Crown what the Americas have. Christopher Columbus was the one to land in the Americas first for the Spanish Empire, but not the first Spaniard to land and set up Spain s grip on the Northern Americas, especially in California. That belonged to Hernan Cortés. Cortés s voyage was first funded by a third party, Diego Velázquez. The Strait of Anián was this pathway from the Americas to the Far East in Asia that no explorer has found.6 Cortés landed in the middle of the Americas and found out about the Aztec Empire that was ruled by Montezuma after he set up a fishing village called Pontonchan. Cortés first went to Tenochitlán, the City of Dreams , and was shocked to see the advancement that the Aztecs had.78 He also found out about what the Aztecs do in their free time. The Aztecs were violent to their neighbors, they were cannibals, and the Aztecs performed human sacrifices.9 This was a good motive for Cortés to conquer the Aztec empire. Now, children as well as the teachers get out for some much needed relaxation. So why do we still follow the same schedule? It seems every school year the discussion of year round education captures the attention of the general public. Is it time for year round education (YRE) to be the new norm? Ultimately, there are not that many pros for year round schooling to be the new thing and the traditional 180 day schedule should be kept. Many schools across the America have tried implementing year round education. However, some school districts that tried YRE go back to the 180 day schedule (Sardo Brown, Deborah, and Michael Rooney 1). When year round education is proposed most of the time opposition is met. In 1992, parents of a possible pilot school were surveyed on their thoughts. 59% of the parents responded. There was an overwhelming amount of rejection. Just 10% of those surveyed favored YRE where 83% were against (Sardo Brown, Deborah, and Michael Rooney 1). So why is there such opposition for year round school? The concerns seem to arise with the idea of taking away summer vacation. Most cite that both the students and the teachers need a break from school. Shakespeare s choice in making Hamlet vulnerable, anxious and afraid of the stress of his life allows for the reader to relate to him. Each human experiences fear and its mysteries. However, in order to move forward in life, it is inevitable to face these fears. Indecisive minds, like Hamlet, can grow by taking the time to comprehend their fears, letting the fears guide their thoughts and choosing to use their creative imaginations to make decisions. Thirty eight of the forty two world records have been broken by swimmers wearing the LZR Racer while it was legal. Twenty three of these records were set at the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing with the suits on. Ninety four percent of the gold medals were won by people wearing these swim suits and eighty nine percent of the total medals won were by swimmers in these illegal suits (Cole, 2008). The most plausible option, however, is to place an asterisk mark next to every record set with the polyurethane swimsuits. Fortunately, FINA has come to this conclusion and from now on the records set in the LZR Racer swim suits (or in any other now banned swim suit) will remain in their own separate asterisked category. The old records held before the suits will also stand in a different category to be broken by people wearing legal swim suits that are FINA approved and are going to stay FINA approved. FINA has stated that world records in any competition will only be recognized as world records if the swimmer was wearing a FINA approved swim suit (FINA, 2013). Both of these categories should be equally credible, the only difference is some records are with the swim suits and some are without the swim suits. This issue has caused a huge riot throughout competitive swimming. FINA has done the best they can at covering up a mistake that shouldn t have been made in the first place; swimming, however, will never be the same. If they bring these suits back, this will all happen again. Why repeat past mistakes? Legal Advancement in Swimming Accessories Much has been done to improve swimming as a sport. Don Quixote Foils In the Spanish novel, The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote of La Mancha, written by Miguel de Cervantes, Sancho Panza is conveniently placed throughout the story to be easily compared to others. Sancho sets the point of being normal or regular for the settings and explains with actions and appearance how others are. Sancho also verbally expresses the insane manner of his companion more than once. Sancho s purpose is to not only be the foil, but also to be the reference point and explanation of the story. Sancho is a neutral character. In chapter three, Tilting at windmills, Cervantes states an honest, ignorant laborer named Sancho Panza . When compared to Don Quixote, Sancho is but a simple fellow, and Quixote is a crazed old man who fantasizes being a great knight of great chivalry. This comparison is that of an obvious one, were Sancho is foil to only Quixote. In chapter twenty two, on page 152, Cervantes tells of Sancho s Family awaiting his return. This sheds more light on Sancho s family, as it states later that he has a wife and children. This brings to conclusion that Sancho has a normal sized family, that consists of normal people, since the text does not state otherwise. Sancho is a normal guy, with a normal family, who does ... Though The Lord of the Flies never describes a Man vs. Self conflict, there is indeed a definite enemy among the islanders; haplessly being themselves. Moreover, the retrenchment of the refined attitudes of the islanders being amended into that of irrational savages is culpable for the tragedies conducted by the islanders throughout the story. This sort of ancillary and visceral enemy that the islanders impinge upon is thus apposite to the Man vs. Self conflict style. To begin, there is a detectable amount of referencing to savagery throughout the story and often it is what to blame for much of the conflicts in the book as aforementioned. For instance, the frequent and acerbic collisions among Jack and Ralph with Piggy often describe either Ralph or Jack becoming savage. In fact, every incident in the book adumbrates to the presence savagery at least peripherally. For instance, the diurnal (adding wood to fire) was a custom that would most likely have led to the boys being rescued had they not construed of the existence of a mythical Beast which never transpired in the physical realm. This conjured beast of superstitious properties precluded an early rescue when it was created without conferring with logic. • 31. Mortality In Virginia Woolf s The Death Of The Moth Mortality and the Moth Death is unwelcome news for all human beings, but at the same time, it is an unavoidable incident that everyone should accept. About this statement, some people might argue that the death is a part of people s life, while people cannot avoid it. In The Death of the Moth , Virginia Woolf, the writer of the essay, claims that people should be aware of mortality and accept the death with a deferential attitude through the observation of the little moth s death throes. The key concepts of the essay release as the writer illustrates her attitudes that change chronologically as she comprehends the moth s fierce fight with death. By introducing the essay with a brief but detailed description of a pleasant morning, mid September (125), she leads the readers to get the background idea of the moth s upcoming fate. Initially, Woolf s feeling towards the moth was pity and pathetic. The sentence, ... his zest in enjoying his meager opportunities to the full, pathetic. (125), describes how the author perceives a moth as a trivial, minor creature. However, after she encounters and apprehends the moth s furious fights against death, her feeling shifts toward admiration and respect. ... This gigantic effort on the part of an insignificant little moth, against a power of such magnitude, to retain what no on else valued or desired to keep, moved one strangely (127). Eventually, the essay concludes with author s claim on death s strangeness: the true nature of life and death and the motivational attitude towards the death. Hence, in this paper, I will explore how Woolf expresses her appreciation towards the moth and the death, and examine the definitions of the life and the death through the relationship between the moth and Woolf. Throughout The Death of the Moth, the main theme is derived from the observation and recognition. By observing the moth s little movement to revive, Woolf recognizes the connection between life and death, and the receptive attitude towards the death. We usually do not really care or learn a lesson from a moth s behavior. We usually think a moth is a little, insignificant creature. Same as readers, Woolf initially dismisses and devalues the moth and his motions. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
