The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is a technical organization under the Ministry of Environment & Forest, established to promote cleanliness of water bodies and improve air quality in India. It provides advisory support, executes nationwide pollution control programs, and collaborates with state boards to prevent and manage air and water pollution. Additionally, the CPCB regulates industry compliance, conducts research, and prepares standards for pollution control.

3.  The CPCB is a multi-disciplinary technical organization of Ministry of
Environment & Forest (MoEF) plays the role of an advisor and
coordinator of the State Boards.
 Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has been originally created
under Section 3 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution)
Act, 1974 with the main function to promote cleanliness of streams
and wells in the different areas of the States.

13.  A State Pollution Control Board was constituted under section
4 of the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act,
1974 and under section 5 of the Air (Prevention and Control
of Pollution) Act, 1981

16.  To perform any function entrusted by central Board or state
government
 The Board may establish or recognize a laboratory or laboratories
to enable the Board to perform its functions under this section
efficiently, including the analysis of samples of water from any stream
or well or of samples of any sewage or trade effluents.

industry which is likely to pollute a stream or well
