Cytoskeleton Z
J. Nucleus - contains DNA with coded
instructions giving cells unique characteristics.
D. Nucleolus – Inside the Nucleus,
        makes ribosomes.
E. Nuclear Envelope(membrane) - surrounds
nucleus - has pores to allow materials in and
                     out.
H. Ribosomes - site of protein synthesis
        (follows instructions from nucleus).

All the little black dots are Ribosomes!
A. Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) -
    transport & modification of proteins.

Like UPS of
the cell!
C. Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum (ER) -
lipid synthesis, used in detoxification in
liver, & release calcium for muscle
                contraction.
G. Golgi Apparatus - Packaging
macromolecules for transport elsewhere
              in the cell.
Z. Lysosomes - Filled with enzymes for
intracellular digestion, only in ANIMALS.
(bacteria, worn-out organelles, food, even
           the cell they are in!)

  This is how a
 tadpole looses
   its tail. 
F. Mitochondria - Provides the energy a
cell needs to move, divide, etc.
        (powerhouse of the cell)

    1000 per cell!!
I. Plasma Membrane - Protective,
flexible barrier between the cell and
its environment— regulates what goes
               in and out.
B. Cytosol—the fluid inside cell.
Cytoplasm = (Cytosol + organelles inside)

                             The area
                           between the

                            membrane.
Cytoskeleton – maintains cell shape – also
   moves organelles around internally,
            only in Animals.
