The cell cycle consists of two main phases: interphase and the mitotic phase. Interphase is further divided into G1, S, and G2 phases where the cell grows and duplicates its DNA. The mitotic phase includes prophase, metaphase, anaphase and telophase where the cell undergoes division. Cytokinesis then occurs where the cell physically separates into two identical daughter cells through cleavage or formation of a cell plate.
