Gunpowder Plot Analysis
Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare that was published in 1623. The
Gunpowder Plot of November 5, 1605 was an attempt to assassinate King James the I of England.
The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and Shakespeare s Macbeth seem to be unrelated at first, but upon
closer analyzation, the two are closely related. The two are related because of the influence that the
Gunpowder Plothad on the plot of Macbeth. The themes of high treason, conspiracy and execution
are themes from the Gunpowder plot that influenced the plot of Macbeth.
The Gunpowder Plot was a plan to kill King James I of England. Assassinating the King of England
is bad enough, but conspirators did not stop there. The conspirators also wanted to kill the queen,
her first born son, and members of parliament (source: Britannica). The Gunpowder Plot was lead
by Robert Catesby and included four other conspirators. The four other conspirators were Thomas
Winter,Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes. All of the conspirators were zealous Roman
Catholics angered by James s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. The
conspirators wanted English Catholics to take over England after the King and his parliament were
out of the picture.
The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot wanted to (literally) blow up King James and his
parliament members. Conspirators were going to do so by igniting kegs of powder under the room
that parliament was going to meet in with the King. The conspirators rented a cell under where
parliament was to meet. Then, during the summer of 1605 the conspirators smuggled kegs of
gunpowder into the rented room. As the plot progressed more conspirators needed to be recruited.
The additional conspiracy members were: Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, Francis Tresham,
Everard Digby, Ambrose Rookwood, Thomas Bates, Robert Keyes, Hough Owens, and John Grant
(www.historylearningsite.co.uk).
The day before the kegs of gunpowder were set to be ignited, the plot was discovered. The plot was
discovered, in the official version, through an anonymous letter to Lord Monteagle, a Catholic,
warning him not to attend the State Opening. Whether the letter was genuine or a forgery is
uncertain. In any event, on the 4 November

Critically Evaluate the Management Model of Baumol
Under the traditional economic understanding, it is always assumed that profit maximization is
treated as the main goal or objective for businesses, subject to perfect knowledge, single entity
and rational logic. However, as illustrated by the principal agency problem, managers do not
usually make rational decision entirely like owners who take company interest as their sole basis
for their decisions. Past examples have shown that managers do take their own personal goals and
satisfactions as consideration in their decision making. In addition, information gathering is not
always perfect as managers do make decision by relying solely on the implicit knowledge gained
from past experiences, without referencing to the macro economic... Show more content on

As service providers, consistent and frequent service failure could prove to be fatal in term of
their survival and their long term brand reputation. Therefore it would make sense for
telecommunication firms to divert the peak hours traffic into non peak hours by using a price
discrimination strategy which segments the users based upon their willingness and abilities to
pay. For instance, business users are willing to pay higher price for peak hours usage due to
their inelastic demand whereas in contrast, leisure users demand is elastic and are willing to
make call during off peak hours in return for lower price. By adopting the price discrimination
strategy, telecommunication firms are able to maximize sales revenue during peak and off peak
hours by balancing the air time traffic based upon different market segment of users. At this point,
it is also noticeable that one of the characteristics of Baumol firms lies in the perishable products
/services offered which cannot be inventoried. The loss sale of the day on the unutilized capacity
/outputs is an opportunity cost to the firms. Baumol model is not only applicable to huge/large
corporations, but also to small retailers like bakery shop or wet market, which explains the reason
why some bakery shops offer a special discount one

Jewish Culture Influence On American Culture
The food of the United States reflects the country s history through its strong cultural influences.
The colonization of the United States caused the introduction of many meals and cooking styles to
the regions in America (Hanson). These styles have continued to expand into the 19th and 20th
centuries because of the continuous amounts of immigrants that have come to the United Statesfrom
various countries. American cuisine has always been changing, absorbing all of the new influences
from other cultures as all of the new immigrants arrived, married and fused their traditions (Carter).
There is a wide variety of foods available in the United States that is influenced by the English,

This region seems to have one of the most diverse cuisines because it is influenced by a number
of different cultures. All of the different influenced has shaped the cuisine in the south to form
what we call it today, Southern cooking ( US Food (Cuisine). ). American Indians that were native
to this area, the Navajo, taught European settlers to grow and cook corn, a grain unknown in
Europe at the time (Damica). Spanish explorers brought pigs with them as they explored the
territory, and this brought pork to the region. Beginning in the 1600s the Africans carried their
traditional foods with them, such as watermelon, eggplant, and okra, when they were brought to
the United States during the time of the transatlantic slave trade (Sambira). One of the most
popular dishes that the African Americans brought over, other than those listed before, is rice
pudding (Pinchin). In New Orleans, which is part of the deep south, there is many other dishes
that have originated from Africa, like gumbo (Sambira). French and Haitian immigrants, known
as Creoles, introduced the use of spices (Tilove). The Creoles later had mixed with Spanish
settlers in the Louisiana area and created what would be called Cajun cooking (Tilove). In general
in the south, catfish is very popular, especially fried. In the Texas area since it is

Becoming A Drummer Instrument Analysis
Learning to become a percussionist/drummer wasn t an easy task. Learning an instrument takes
quite a lot of interest in music, as well as many hours of practice to perfect it. Learning an
instrument was always the goal in mind. I started trying to play the guitar and that did not work
out for me because i could not keep interested, I tried piano which kept me sitting down with
minimal movement for long periods of time, and finally i tried drumming which gave me what i
wasn t getting out of the other instruments. Being able to move all 4 limbs to playin time with a
song, and to enjoy playing the instrument for extended periods of time without getting bored. It s

This allows you to get a feel for the instrument before you actually have to listen t someone else
telling you how to play. This helped greatly while trying to pick up an instrument because it
allows you to see what level of play you have before you start to take a lesson. When you actually
go into your lessons for the first time you ll begin to learn things like how to create a basic beat or
hold a tempo. Learning this within the lesson gives confidence to the student by being able to
play there first beat with just one lesson. Learning this allows the student to go home and
explore more ways to go at the same beat and actually keep engaged without getting bored. After
about a year I started to lack on practicing and what really kept me from dropping the instrument
was joining a band of 3 other kids with the same musical talent, to practice and actually compose
songs. Keeping your practice fun is what makes you come back and want to keep playing, and for
me, having the other 3 kids push me to better myself is what really led to me pursuing my

Surveillance And Intelligence Applications At The Criminal...
An endless number of people all over the world use and benefit from modern technology, and the
tremendous opportunities it provides play a significant role in almost all fields of human life.
Working in criminal justice today means having the opportunity to utilize GPS systems, advanced
cameras and high powered computer systems. These important technologies have improved
investigation, surveillance and analysis procedures as long as they are supported by the skill set
and intelligence to properly use them. Of course, criminals also utilize these technologies, so
professionals in the industry have to remain one step ahead in order to combat illicit usage.
Professionals in the criminal justice field also face societal barriers that complicate the innovation
and advancement of this technology. Originally designed for military and intelligence applications
at the height of the Cold War, the global positioning system is a network of satellites that orbit the
earth at fixed points above the planet ( Using GPS, 2014). In an effort to improve performance and
reduce expenses, many policedepartments have adopted the use of GPS trackers for surveillance
and other purposes. In the past, officers would have the tedious job of following criminals on foot
for days or even months at a time. Using these devices for vehicle pursuing provides police
departments with instantaneous information and helps them operate more effectively. However,

Miep Gies Thesis
Helping people who are in danger is not a matter of courage but from making a decision that
every human being has to make in his life when he or she distinguishes between good and bad.
Miep Gies. The Medal of Honor, one of the highest medals that one can receive. Miep Gies, one
of the people in whom helped hide multiple Jewish families should get a Medal of Honor. She had
helped the aforementioned families with food, shelter and the necessary things needed for those
families to survive. One major factor in this decision is how long Miep kept the families in hiding.
The families were kept in hiding, with Miep s help for twenty five months, or about one year and
one month. This time may not seem that long, but keep in mind that during that time that the...

Honestly, it was also difficult for Miep, the caretaker of these families plus the others to keep
quiet about the Jewish families. Plus she had to try to get food to the families. Secondly, hiding
the families had been hard. Miep Gies had at the time broken a law. She mainly began breaking
the law by hiding the families and continuing to hide the families. She also had to try to get
resources to the families without being suspicious. Then, each family member had different
needs than another. Miep also had to get what these specific members wanted. This was most
likely a challenge, especially to smuggle the items. Some people may say that Miep Gies does
not deserve a Medal of Honor. These people are in the wrong. Miep has and until her death cared
for the families. She cared and hid the Jewish families, and by doing so she was risking her own
life. Every day for the twenty five months that the families were in hiding, she risked her life
knowing that if she was ever found out, then she might be killed, be put into a concentration camp,
have horrible things done to her. Miep had not abandoned the families at

Regionalism and it s Effect on a Unified Canadian Identity
The concept of regionalism has been used to show the social, economic, and political
differences that exist between the regions of Canada since the days of confederation.
Historically, Canada has developed in different manners depending on the location, leaving a
region much different from another. One of the major reasons for this can be seen through the
geography of this country. The natural land forms which are present in Western Canada, such as
the prairies, are much different from say the coastal proximity, for example, of Atlantic Canada.
The climate in relation to the different geographical characteristics of Canada attributes to the
different life styles in these regions, ultimately changing their identities. This causes ... Show more

Most specifically the difference would have to be the cultural
difference of language. Since the beginning of this country Quebec has fought for the
preservation of the French language and culture and thus the protection of such makes for a
different perception of Canadian identity. Every other region in Canada feels that the government
policies unequally allow Central Canada s economy, primarily Ontario s, to dominate. As the
saying goes everyone in Canada hates Ontario and everyone in Ontario hates Toronto. The
different class levels make other regions apathetic about the progress most specifically, financial
progress in Central Canada.
When analyzing the West region of Canada two groups emerge one being the Prairies of
Alberta, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan and the other being the mountainous area of British
Columbia.
The economy of the prairies includes manufacturing such as food machinery, transportation
equipment, metal products and clothing, food and chemical products, as well as the countries
largest agricultural industry including livestock and grains. Most recently the province of
Alberta s economy has seen the most growth on a percentage basis in Canada. Historically
people of this region are known as being farmers. Although there are many non farmers in this
area, agriculture can be seen in the culture of these people. As well political

Divergent Dystopia Essay
Divergent Dystopia vs. modern day society
Many of us focus on trying to see the positive side of things, but the truth is that sometimes we
need to open our eyes, and notice the negative activities sourrounding our world. Once we
comprehende what is negativetely affecting our world, then we should find a way to fix it, and
shape the world. Finally, after we have done all of that, then maybe we can have a better world,
but to have a utopian society just seems way out of our reach. A dystopian society, just like the one
in the novel divergent, definetely is different from our modern day society, but our society dosent
neceseraly stay behind On the novel divergent, the society seems out of control, it feel like it is a
place were you cant be feeling safe for a second. In the novel, the euridite faction had been long
time rivals with abnegation, so they had a sinister plan to end with abnigation once and for all.
Consequently, what the euridite did, was that they teamed up with the leaders of dauntless Eric and

there is no doubt that in our society although, it is illegal to commit any sort of crime of harming
other people, but nontheless people still do it, many mindless human beings out there with
knowledge that harming someone is a crime, yet they still do it. similarly, to the novel divergent,
in our modern day society there is often alot of bribeing, and manipulation between people,
including the goverment at times. Overall, the point is that even though a setting just like the one
in the dystopian novel divergent isnt as harsh and extreme as our modern day society, if we open
our eyes and just look for a moment we would realize how similar these two society can

Continental Airlines Essay

However, Continental has many strengths that have allowed it to prevail through tough times and
avoid complete ruin. The CEO of Continental Airlines played an important role in reviving the
company. His Go Forward Plan vocalized the strategy of the company and focused on every aspect
of the organization. Continentalhas a well defined target market, providing services to upper class

The airline industry has also experienced a shift in consumer preferences to low cost, point to point

4. Although the industry is making a comeback, there are several threats to airlines that could affect
their long term success. Even though it is one of the opportunities in the market, changing customer
preferences are also a threat to some upper class airlines. Consumers are demanding fewer frills, less
costs, and fewer connecting flights. Financing is becoming more difficult to achieve in the industry
due to the fact that so many companies are failing to turn profits and are filing for bankruptcy.
Those organizations that have survived the recent down turn in the industry are gaining the ability
to acquire other companies through mergers and acquisitions. The industry is also threatened by
increased technology, such as video conferencing, that has decreased the demand for business
travelers.
5. The critical issue for Continental Airlines is to remain competitive in a struggling environment in
spite of discount airlines.
6. One alternative for Continental is to continue operating as they have done in the past. This would
enable Continental to continue to use their current business plan and strategy. Their employees and
customers are now accepting of the strategy and policy that took so long to instill in the
organizations. Continental could

Western Culture And Suicide Essay
Eastern and Western Ideologies Surrounding Suicide and Their Origins
In order to understand the eastern and western beliefs about suicide, we must first review and
consider the influences of these beliefs, such as religion and history, as well as the effects of
acculturation. The Eastern and Western cultures have very distinct views on deathand suicide. The
two cultures I will be specifically focusing on is Japan and the United States.
In Japan, there is a strong presence of Buddhism and Shintoism. In Buddhism, death is not the end.
Originally written by Padma Sambhava, and translated by Robert Thurman, the Tibetan Book of the
Dead (1994) states death is merely a door towards enlightenment, and human life is a bridge to
nirvana. Shintoism teaches that a human s soul is everlasting; transitioning into another realm after
the body dies. To those born into the eastern culture, these views on the afterlife are not theories. It
is science. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Christian devotees do not believe in reincarnation. After the spirit departs, the body reverts to dust,
and the soul returns to God (Ecclesiastes 12:7, King James Version). There is no need for
immortality since there is a heaven. Apart from religion, the western view of death is that of
rejection. Americans use euphemisms, like passed away and transitioned in order to cope with the
misfortune. Instead of cherishing individuals while they are alive, Americans take them for
granted, and when the person departs their deaths are described as premature, sudden, and too
soon . A prime example of this is American actor Paul Walker, who died in a horrific car accident
in 2013. The reason for this is because the westernized culture does not think about death. In the
east, it is considered a bright and natural cycle; death is treated with anxiety and uncertainty in the

The Old Guitarists In Laurie Adams A History Of Western Art
In Laurie Adams A History of Western Art there are pieces of art that have lots of meaning and
representations one in particular being Pablo Picasso s drawing titled The Old Guitarist (468).
The image chosen shows a man sitting on the ground, wearing tattered clothes and playing a
guitar. Looking closely, the man s frame appears long and bony, paired with tattered clothes. His
face looks sad and glum while his body seems to be leaning in, listening intently to his guitar as
his hands go over the strings. The major point for choosing this image is for the fact that the artist,
Picasso, chose to represent the image using only shades of blue. Idioms are words or phrases that

The Shape of Practical Theology
Book Report: The Shape of Practical Theology
In The Shape of Practical Theology: Empowering Ministry with Theological Praxis, Ray Anderson
attempts what he considers a new approach to modern Christianity. Anderson believes that the
modern church is plagued by a significant divide between theology and practical Christianity. Many
churches approach these two aspects of religion as if they are separate, rather the practical sides of
Christianity lacking. Therefore, Anderson s goal in the book is to relate modern practical
Christianity directly to theology. He uses theology to tackle some of the major social issues that
impact on modern practicing Christians including: preaching, worship, family, therapy, burnout,
relationships, social justice, ethics, and homosexuality. Instead of treating these issues as if they
are separate from theology, Anderson demonstrates how theology directly interacts with each of
these issues. Anderson uses a three prong approach to explain his theological approach to modern
Christianity. The first prong is the shape of practical theology. The goal of this section is not to
merely describe the skills and methods that people use to engage in theology, but to look at
practical theology as a meaningful way to grow one s relationship with God and one s understanding
of Scripture. In this section, Anderson introduces the concept of practical theology, talks about the
discipline of practical theology, a Trinitarian model of practical theology, looking

Personal Legend InThe Alchemist, By Paulo Coehlo
To achieve one s Personal Legend, one must work hard to accomplish it. This is not an easy task
to do, especially when you are a young shepherd boy. The Alchemist is a novel written by Paulo
Coehlo. The main character is a boy, Santiago, which seeks out his Personal Legend and the
alchemist helps him discover himself along the way. In the novel, Coelho uses symbols, character
development, and setting to create a deeper meaning. Santiago does not use his own motivation to
pursue his Personal Legend, but it is through the efforts of others that his Personal Legend is
fulfilled.
In the novel, Coelho uses symbols of love, Urim, and Thummim, and sheep to create meaning
and emotion in the novel. Coelho uses the symbol of love, or Fatima to show her efforts in
Santiago s Personal Legend. My father went away one day, but he returned to my mother, and he
has always come back since then. (Coelho, 122). Santiago has a decision to make: stay in the
oasis, or go to the pyramids. Fatima tells him to go find his treasure and assures him she will be
waiting. Coelho demonstrates through Fatima Santiago s great love for her, which becomes a
motivational factor to return to when Santiago is on his journey. Without the help of Fatima, he
would have stayed in the oasis. Coelho uses Urim and Thummim to model Santiago s benightedness
and ignorance. I promised that I would make my own decisions, (Coelho, 41). Santiago is given a

prophecies, the floating dagger, and ghost. The existence of these supernatural elements in Macbeth
foreshadows the evil ambitions and actions possess by Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. Besides that,
these supernatural elements also are the key elements to the manipulative play as it evoke the
emotions among the audience to perceive the horror, mystery, evil and death throughout the play.
The introduction of the three witches with their prophecies in Act 1 Scene 3, about Macbeth after
he won the war against the Norwegians, at the beginning of the play has naturally motivated
Macbeth s actions to make the prophecies into reality.
The witches are not human or half ways normal when Banquo quotes to Macbeth that the creatures
are not human like as well as irregular in some sort and very unattractive. The witches then
presented as Macbeth s fortune tellers. The witches called Macbeth as Thane of Glamis, Thane of

The existence of supernatural elements in Macbeth played a huge role because without it Macbeth
would have never killed Duncan. The witches and their prophecies become the ultimate key factor
for Macbeth s dynamic character as their ability to foresee Macbeth s fate affect his actions and

destroyed his nobility. It is also very effective as it highlights the horror, fears, cruelty and
blameworthy of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth. The elements successfully appeal to the audience s
curiosity of the mysterious and thus strengthen their interest towards the

An Episode Of War Naturalism Analysis
Naturalism Naturalism began having precedence in the literary world around 1865 as an offset to
realism. Unlike realism that focuses on the reality of a situation, naturalism focuses on the
psychological and sociological aspect of common people and everyday life. The core of naturalism
is the belief that natureis indifferent. I believe the literature written by the author Stephen Crane,
exemplifies naturalismin a way that is relatable to readers. In the literary work of An Episode of
War, the story takes place during a routine day at the time of the Cilvil War. A lieutenant is
concentrated on handing out coffee rations to his corporals when gun shots begin firing out of
nowhere, consequently wounding the lieutenant in his arm. Those surrounding him freeze at the
sight of their own bleeding, for although they were use to seeing it in battle, seeing one of their
own up close, hit them hard. From this point on the lieutenant goes on a journey to find help for
his arm in the midst of turmoil and war surrounding him. An Episode of War exemplifies
naturalism by expressing the insignificance of mankind to nature. Instead of giving the lieutenant
and corporals names, Crane decides to leave them nameless, signifying that we are all generic to
the universe and the forces of nature. It is only fate where we are and we must make the best of it
because nature will neither harm nor help us. Nature is indifferent. Life in comparison to this story
is like a battle. We as society

Legal Implications Of In Nursing Essay
Legal Implications of Understaffing in Nursing
Noa Schwartz
Hunter College
Abstract
A shortage of nursing staff in a healthcare center is a great burden for all involved. For the nurse, it
is overwhelming and even potentially dangerous to take on the grand responsibility of many
patients to care for. For the patients, the burden lies in getting the care they deserve. For the hospital
it is the burden of staying afloat financially and utilizing resources to the fullest. This tug of war
between nurse, patient, and administration is key to many legal issues in healthcare. Who is
responsible if any part of this relationship goes awry? What are some solutions to help mitigate
the burden? Is there a magic number in staffing ratios? Understaffing nurses in healthcare is a gray
area, with definitions that cannot be defined indefinitely. What laws are involved and the debate if
it should be a legal issue at all is up for discussion. This paper will analyze and discuss the topic,
elaborating complications and implications this issue has in nursing.
Legal Implications of Understaffing in Nursing
The harsh reality of understaffing in healthcare centers is a real and prevalent issue. Nurses are
being forced to compromise care due to being given responsibility over too many patients at a
time. The New England Journal of Medicine (Needleman et al., 2002) explains how staffing issues
are linked to adverse patient outcomes. This includes length of stay in

How Does George Orwell Use Propaganda In Animal Farm
Animal Farm, by George Orwell, is an allegoric novel based on the history of the Soviet Union and
the Russian Revolution (1917 to 1944) disguised as an animal fable. Orwell draws his audience into
a utopian, metaphorical history novel through his animal characters. Squealer represents
intelligence and education; Napoleon represents propaganda and duplicity; The dogs to represent
violence and terror as a means of control; and finally Boxer represents apathy and acceptance.
Throughout each of the characters stories, there are themes of the Soviet Union intertwined. The

Essay about Katherine Mansfield s Miss Brill
Illusion vs. Reality in Miss Brill
Miss Brill by Katherine Mansfield is set the Jardins Publiques in France. Every Sunday Miss Brill
looks forward to getting dressed up and visiting the park, where she enjoys people watching. Her
weekly visits to the park are undoubtedly the highlight of her week, bringing her great joy and
satisfaction. There are many illusions in this story, in this essay I intend to show three different
illusions Miss Brill uses to make herself happy and how her reality is shattered at the end of the
story by a chance remark.
Miss Brill s first illusion is her fur, which she thinks of as being alive. Mansfield writes, Dear little
thing! ...and rubbed the life back into the dim little eyes. `What has been ... Show more content on

Miss Brill soon observes a lady and a gentleman having a brief encounter in the park, and she
imagines what is being said on between the couple. Through this encounter one sees that Miss
Brill is living vicariously through the people in the park to fulfill her loneliness. Miss Brill s
voyeurism leaves her feeling as though she has interactions with these people; this, in turn, leaves
her happy and fulfilled. The truth is she is a very lonely person looking to fill her time in the park
with imagined relationships.
Miss Brill s third illusion is that she thinks of herself as an actress (123) in a play. This illusion
gives Miss Brill great pleasure and exhilaration, as she thinks, They were all on stage... they were
acting (123) and that she is An Actress (123), which is an important part of her illusion.
Mansfield writes, Who could believe the sky at the back wasn t painted? (123). This statement
leads readers to believe that Miss Brill thinks of the sky and the park as the set of the play. She
believes that the all of the park patrons weren t only the audience (123) but also the actors in a
great play. Miss Brill even sees a dog that happens to be walking across the park as a `theater dog.
She also believes that somebody would have noticed if she hadn t been there (123) for her Sunday
performance, and that she would be greatly missed. In actuality she is not an actress in a play but
one of the many people enjoying the park.

Nannocrystalline Zno Film Analysis

However in Rietveld refinement the peaks profile is fitted using Pseudo Voight functions, which is

the chemical reaction involved in the growth process of ZnO films and having negligible effect on
peak broadening. The microstructural (crystallite size and lattice strain) and structural (lattice cell
constants, atomic positions and occupancies) parameters refinement was performed using the space
group P63mc. The values of the crystallite size, strain, and lattice parameter obtained from the
Rietveld refinement and Scherrer methods are shown in Table 1. In table 1 the microstructural
analysis shows the lattice parameters are well matched lattice constants for the standard values of
the hexagonal wurtzite structure of ZnO. Furthermore, the variation of single to five layer coated
ZnO film lattice parameters a and c is remarkable, when compared with the standard ZnO, due to
the complexity of the hexagonal wurtzite crystal structure of ZnO and anisotropic variation in the
crystal lattice. As seen in Table 1, the ratio of the lattice parameters a/c is slightly affected by
deposition cycles. However, the unit cell volume of as prepared ZnO film is decreased from 47.598
to 47.501 Г…3 with increasing the deposition cycle from single to five cycles. The similar

Explain Why College Athletes Need To Change
The Treatment Of College Athletes Need To Change
The NCAA needs to protect the overall well being of the athletes because they are the bread and

athletes to receive money from an outside source, provide a stable living environment for athletes
who qualify, provide the proper nutrients the athletes need in order to excel on the field, and the
NCAA needs to ban colleges from pulling the athletes scholarship after an injury. The athletes can t

Of Mice and Men-Curleys Wife Analysis
Of Mice and Men is a novel set on a ranch in the Salinas Valley in California, during the Great
Depression of the 1930s by John Steinbeck. It was the first work to bring Steinbeck s national
recognition as a writer. The book addresses the real hopes and dreams of working class America.
Steinbeck s short novel raises the lives of the poor and dispossessed to a higher, symbolic level.
The title suggests that plans of Mice and Men often go awry, a reference to Robert Burn s poem To
a Mouse. Since the novel has been published, it has been called Vulgar and Offensive ; perhaps
because of the way it mentally handicapped people, people of different races (black people) and the
way in which women were portrayed. *Of Mice and Men is... Show more content on

Nature Vs Nurture In Child Development
One of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the Nature vs Nurture debate. This said
debate is important in whether the child s development is based only in genetics or environmental
impacts. The definition of nurture refers to all the environmental variables that impact who we are.
Throughout the child s development, it is seen that the genetic influence over abstract traits of the
child may exist; but, the environmental factors are the real origins of our behavior. This shows
that the use of conditioning in the aspects of physical, social, and moral is crucial to the child s
development as it is the product of maturation. In the physical aspect, it shows that the deprivation

It believes that babies are born with a blank state and that is gradually filled by experiences
through the help of their parents and society. Without physical contact of someone with
knowledge of language, the child may suffer from language deficiency. This is also proven by
B.F. Skinner, stating that children learn words by associating sounds with objects, or by simply
imitating others. This is also the case of Oxana Malaya, the girl that was abandoned by her parents
and was raised by dogs. For eight years, she didn t obtain language through people, thus, she was
constantly barking and walking with her hands. Nurture is also evident in social development
through Vgotsky s Social Development Theory. He stated that the cultural development of the child
appears twice: first, on the social level, and later, on the individual level. He places more emphasis
on social contributions and interactions from the parents and society. Environmental factors also
influence the moral development through Kohlberg s Stages of Moral Development. He found out
that the children that are faced with different problems, and their decisions on whether they are to
act positively or negatively over each dilemma are heavily influenced by environmental aspects. His
stages include shaping child behaviors through authority figure s advice, gain approval of others,

are by a man named Wilfred Owen. Owen is one of the most important poets from the wartime.
Once war broke he found a great desire to join in the war effort and became an officer. He was
sent home to England after a huge shell burst near him during the war. After this experience his
views changed dramatically on the war. He wrote the following to his mother, That one of Christ
s essential commands was passivity at any price! Suffer dishonour and disgrace but never resort
to arms. Later on he met Sassoon in Craig Lockhart War Hospital . Sassoon encouraged Owen s
poetic writing. I will be studying two of Owen s negative poems. I will begin comparing the poems
by exploring the positive attitudes

Discrimination In America

Discrimination in America
Discrimination, what is it really all about? Does it still exist in America? The answer is absolutely,
and unfortunately, it will always exist. I feel that this is a term that needs definition because it will
always be controversial in American culture. Discrimination is defined as different treatment of
others based solely on their membership in a socially distinct group or category, such as race,
ethnicity, sex, religion, age, or disability. Discrimination can be viewed as favorable or
unfavorable, depending on whether a person receives favors or opportunities or is denied them. For
example, a senior citizens discount shows favorable discrimination toward ... Show more content on

This occurred as a result of the attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941. The discrimination
they experienced happened in the more extreme form of segregation by the government. In
1942, Roosevelt passed an order which led to an estimated 110,000 Japanese Americans on the
west coast to be arrested and placed in camps. This was all due to the mistrust for the Japanese
after the attacks by their suicide bombers. Recently, a new race has been the victim of increased
hate crimes. Since the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Centers, statistics from an
FBI report of hate crimes in American showed that the number of crimes against Muslim or Arab
Americans jumped from 28 in 2000 to 481 after September 11th. It is shocking to believe that
over 17 times the crimes in 2000 occurred in only three and a half months in 2001. It seems that
people were taking out anger on anyone they could blame for the tragedy the same way that people
did 60 years ago after Pearl

Organic Solvents And Nonpolar Solvents
As mentioned in the discussion, olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard were soluble in
nonpolar solvents and insoluble in polar solvents. This is due to the chemical composition of
polar and nonpolar substances which results from the molecular shape as well as properties of
dissolving solutes in solution. Polar substances are hydrophilic and contain polar Van Der Waals
interactions (intermolecular forces) such as dipole dipole forces, ion dipole forces, and hydrogen
bonding. Nonpolar substances are hydrophobic and contain non polar Van Der Waals interactions.
Like dissolve like is the reason only polar solutes dissolve in polar solvents and why nonpolar
solutes dissolve in nonpolar solvents. Molecules with similar polarity have similar intermolecular
forces and therefore, can interact with each, or in this case dissolve9. Additionally, the solubilityof a
compound is determined by the length of the hydrocarbon chain. Long hydrocarbon chains such as
the one found in oleic acid makes a compound more insoluble10. Therefore, since the lipids used in
this experiment were hydrophobic substances and each lipid has long hydrocarbon chains, the
results were consistent with the scientific literature and principles. Another factor affecting the
solubility of the olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard is the principle of hydrophobic interaction.
Hydrophobic interaction refers to when nonpolar solutes are in the presence of polar solvents,
mainly water. When this happens, the

  • 3. Gunpowder Plot Analysis Macbeth is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare that was published in 1623. The Gunpowder Plot of November 5, 1605 was an attempt to assassinate King James the I of England. The Gunpowder Plot of 1605 and Shakespeare s Macbeth seem to be unrelated at first, but upon closer analyzation, the two are closely related. The two are related because of the influence that the Gunpowder Plothad on the plot of Macbeth. The themes of high treason, conspiracy and execution are themes from the Gunpowder plot that influenced the plot of Macbeth. The Gunpowder Plot was a plan to kill King James I of England. Assassinating the King of England is bad enough, but conspirators did not stop there. The conspirators also wanted to kill the queen, her first born son, and members of parliament (source: Britannica). The Gunpowder Plot was lead by Robert Catesby and included four other conspirators. The four other conspirators were Thomas Winter,Thomas Percy, John Wright, and Guy Fawkes. All of the conspirators were zealous Roman Catholics angered by James s refusal to grant more religious toleration to Catholics. The conspirators wanted English Catholics to take over England after the King and his parliament were out of the picture. The conspirators of the Gunpowder Plot wanted to (literally) blow up King James and his parliament members. Conspirators were going to do so by igniting kegs of powder under the room that parliament was going to meet in with the King. The conspirators rented a cell under where parliament was to meet. Then, during the summer of 1605 the conspirators smuggled kegs of gunpowder into the rented room. As the plot progressed more conspirators needed to be recruited. The additional conspiracy members were: Robert Wintour, Christopher Wright, Francis Tresham, Everard Digby, Ambrose Rookwood, Thomas Bates, Robert Keyes, Hough Owens, and John Grant (www.historylearningsite.co.uk). The day before the kegs of gunpowder were set to be ignited, the plot was discovered. The plot was discovered, in the official version, through an anonymous letter to Lord Monteagle, a Catholic, warning him not to attend the State Opening. Whether the letter was genuine or a forgery is uncertain. In any event, on the 4 November ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Critically Evaluate the Management Model of Baumol Under the traditional economic understanding, it is always assumed that profit maximization is treated as the main goal or objective for businesses, subject to perfect knowledge, single entity and rational logic. However, as illustrated by the principal agency problem, managers do not usually make rational decision entirely like owners who take company interest as their sole basis for their decisions. Past examples have shown that managers do take their own personal goals and satisfactions as consideration in their decision making. In addition, information gathering is not always perfect as managers do make decision by relying solely on the implicit knowledge gained from past experiences, without referencing to the macro economic... Therefore it would make sense for telecommunication firms to divert the peak hours traffic into non peak hours by using a price discrimination strategy which segments the users based upon their willingness and abilities to pay. For instance, business users are willing to pay higher price for peak hours usage due to their inelastic demand whereas in contrast, leisure users demand is elastic and are willing to make call during off peak hours in return for lower price. By adopting the price discrimination strategy, telecommunication firms are able to maximize sales revenue during peak and off peak hours by balancing the air time traffic based upon different market segment of users. At this point, it is also noticeable that one of the characteristics of Baumol firms lies in the perishable products /services offered which cannot be inventoried. The loss sale of the day on the unutilized capacity /outputs is an opportunity cost to the firms. Baumol model is not only applicable to huge/large corporations, but also to small retailers like bakery shop or wet market, which explains the reason why some bakery shops offer a special discount one ... The colonization of the United States caused the introduction of many meals and cooking styles to the regions in America (Hanson). These styles have continued to expand into the 19th and 20th centuries because of the continuous amounts of immigrants that have come to the United Statesfrom various countries. American Indians that were native to this area, the Navajo, taught European settlers to grow and cook corn, a grain unknown in Europe at the time (Damica). Spanish explorers brought pigs with them as they explored the territory, and this brought pork to the region. Beginning in the 1600s the Africans carried their traditional foods with them, such as watermelon, eggplant, and okra, when they were brought to the United States during the time of the transatlantic slave trade (Sambira). One of the most popular dishes that the African Americans brought over, other than those listed before, is rice pudding (Pinchin). In New Orleans, which is part of the deep south, there is many other dishes that have originated from Africa, like gumbo (Sambira). Learning an instrument takes quite a lot of interest in music, as well as many hours of practice to perfect it. Learning an instrument was always the goal in mind. I started trying to play the guitar and that did not work out for me because i could not keep interested, I tried piano which kept me sitting down with minimal movement for long periods of time, and finally i tried drumming which gave me what i wasn t getting out of the other instruments. An endless number of people all over the world use and benefit from modern technology, and the tremendous opportunities it provides play a significant role in almost all fields of human life. Working in criminal justice today means having the opportunity to utilize GPS systems, advanced cameras and high powered computer systems. These important technologies have improved investigation, surveillance and analysis procedures as long as they are supported by the skill set and intelligence to properly use them. Of course, criminals also utilize these technologies, so professionals in the industry have to remain one step ahead in order to combat illicit usage. Professionals in the criminal justice field also face societal barriers that complicate the innovation and advancement of this technology. Originally designed for military and intelligence applications at the height of the Cold War, the global positioning system is a network of satellites that orbit the earth at fixed points above the planet ( Using GPS, 2014). The Eastern and Western cultures have very distinct views on deathand suicide. The two cultures I will be specifically focusing on is Japan and the United States. In Japan, there is a strong presence of Buddhism and Shintoism. In Buddhism, death is not the end. Originally written by Padma Sambhava, and translated by Robert Thurman, the Tibetan Book of the Dead (1994) states death is merely a door towards enlightenment, and human life is a bridge to nirvana. • 19. The Shape of Practical Theology Book Report: The Shape of Practical Theology In The Shape of Practical Theology: Empowering Ministry with Theological Praxis, Ray Anderson attempts what he considers a new approach to modern Christianity. Anderson believes that the modern church is plagued by a significant divide between theology and practical Christianity. Many churches approach these two aspects of religion as if they are separate, rather the practical sides of Christianity lacking. Therefore, Anderson s goal in the book is to relate modern practical Christianity directly to theology. He uses theology to tackle some of the major social issues that impact on modern practicing Christians including: preaching, worship, family, therapy, burnout, relationships, social justice, ethics, and homosexuality. Instead of treating these issues as if they are separate from theology, Anderson demonstrates how theology directly interacts with each of these issues. Anderson uses a three prong approach to explain his theological approach to modern Christianity. The first prong is the shape of practical theology. The goal of this section is not to merely describe the skills and methods that people use to engage in theology, but to look at practical theology as a meaningful way to grow one s relationship with God and one s understanding of Scripture. In this section, Anderson introduces the concept of practical theology, talks about the discipline of practical theology, a Trinitarian model of practical theology, looking ... Unlike realism that focuses on the reality of a situation, naturalism focuses on the psychological and sociological aspect of common people and everyday life. The core of naturalism is the belief that natureis indifferent. I believe the literature written by the author Stephen Crane, exemplifies naturalismin a way that is relatable to readers. In the literary work of An Episode of War, the story takes place during a routine day at the time of the Cilvil War. A lieutenant is concentrated on handing out coffee rations to his corporals when gun shots begin firing out of nowhere, consequently wounding the lieutenant in his arm. Those surrounding him freeze at the sight of their own bleeding, for although they were use to seeing it in battle, seeing one of their own up close, hit them hard. From this point on the lieutenant goes on a journey to find help for his arm in the midst of turmoil and war surrounding him. An Episode of War exemplifies naturalism by expressing the insignificance of mankind to nature. Instead of giving the lieutenant and corporals names, Crane decides to leave them nameless, signifying that we are all generic to the universe and the forces of nature. It is only fate where we are and we must make the best of it because nature will neither harm nor help us. Nature is indifferent. Life in comparison to this story is like a battle. We as society ... For the hospital it is the burden of staying afloat financially and utilizing resources to the fullest. • 34. Of Mice and Men-Curleys Wife Analysis Of Mice and Men is a novel set on a ranch in the Salinas Valley in California, during the Great Depression of the 1930s by John Steinbeck. It was the first work to bring Steinbeck s national recognition as a writer. The book addresses the real hopes and dreams of working class America. Steinbeck s short novel raises the lives of the poor and dispossessed to a higher, symbolic level. The title suggests that plans of Mice and Men often go awry, a reference to Robert Burn s poem To a Mouse. Since the novel has been published, it has been called Vulgar and Offensive ; perhaps because of the way it mentally handicapped people, people of different races (black people) and the way in which women were portrayed. *Of Mice and Men is... It savors the thin and sweet nectar of innocence as it fluidly streams down its throat, appeasing its taste buds but never quenching the crave for more. This mystic being extracts the cherubic innocence of a child s laughter before it even has the chance to dance upon their lips. In the Bowery, inhabitants possess a warped sense of religion that fails to offer truth and sanctuary. Instead, religion is just a word for these people; they throw it around without understanding what it is and why it exists. The victims of the Bowery have no pure sense of untainted religion. They do not see that God teaches humans to practice ethic and to love others; without this fundamental comprehension, it is impossible for them actually to apply these ideologies in their lives. Still, they attempt to incorporate religion into their lives because they see the more affluent people doing so. • 39. Nature Vs Nurture In Child Development One of the oldest arguments in the history of psychology is the Nature vs Nurture debate. This said debate is important in whether the child s development is based only in genetics or environmental impacts. The definition of nurture refers to all the environmental variables that impact who we are. Throughout the child s development, it is seen that the genetic influence over abstract traits of the child may exist; but, the environmental factors are the real origins of our behavior. This shows that the use of conditioning in the aspects of physical, social, and moral is crucial to the child s development as it is the product of maturation. In the physical aspect, it shows that the deprivation of the mother while inside her womb will develop... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It believes that babies are born with a blank state and that is gradually filled by experiences through the help of their parents and society. Without physical contact of someone with knowledge of language, the child may suffer from language deficiency. This is also proven by B.F. Skinner, stating that children learn words by associating sounds with objects, or by simply imitating others. This is also the case of Oxana Malaya, the girl that was abandoned by her parents and was raised by dogs. For eight years, she didn t obtain language through people, thus, she was constantly barking and walking with her hands. Nurture is also evident in social development through Vgotsky s Social Development Theory. He stated that the cultural development of the child appears twice: first, on the social level, and later, on the individual level. He places more emphasis on social contributions and interactions from the parents and society. Environmental factors also influence the moral development through Kohlberg s Stages of Moral Development. He found out that the children that are faced with different problems, and their decisions on whether they are to act positively or negatively over each dilemma are heavily influenced by environmental aspects. His stages include shaping child behaviors through authority figure s advice, gain approval of others, and lastly, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This made many more men go to war. Things gradually changed, death, disease, mud, it had suddenly hit that to fight for your country was not such an honour. He protested against war by his poetry and making a statement in The Times. He stopped fighting for the war after he was wounded during the Battle of Arras and was sent home. He lived until 1967. All his poems were negative towards war as he aimed to speak the truth about it. The last two poems I am studying are by a man named Wilfred Owen. Discrimination is defined as different treatment of others based solely on their membership in a socially distinct group or category, such as race, ethnicity, sex, religion, age, or disability. • 42. Organic Solvents And Nonpolar Solvents As mentioned in the discussion, olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard were soluble in nonpolar solvents and insoluble in polar solvents. This is due to the chemical composition of polar and nonpolar substances which results from the molecular shape as well as properties of dissolving solutes in solution. Polar substances are hydrophilic and contain polar Van Der Waals interactions (intermolecular forces) such as dipole dipole forces, ion dipole forces, and hydrogen bonding. Nonpolar substances are hydrophobic and contain non polar Van Der Waals interactions. Like dissolve like is the reason only polar solutes dissolve in polar solvents and why nonpolar solutes dissolve in nonpolar solvents. Molecules with similar polarity have similar intermolecular forces and therefore, can interact with each, or in this case dissolve9. Additionally, the solubilityof a compound is determined by the length of the hydrocarbon chain. Long hydrocarbon chains such as the one found in oleic acid makes a compound more insoluble10. Therefore, since the lipids used in this experiment were hydrophobic substances and each lipid has long hydrocarbon chains, the results were consistent with the scientific literature and principles. Another factor affecting the solubility of the olive oil, vegetable oil, crisco, and lard is the principle of hydrophobic interaction. Hydrophobic interaction refers to when nonpolar solutes are in the presence of polar solvents, mainly water. When this happens, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
