Ethical Dilemma
Ethics, also known as moral philosophy, is a subdivision of philosophy, dealing with questions about
morality. Societies, religions, professional groups all around the globe have their own principles or
standards of conduct, which are followed by their members (Davis, Fowler, amp; Aroskar, 1997).
Ethics is concerned with what is right, and what is wrong, good or bad, fair or unfair, responsible or
irresponsible, it relates to what we ought to do in terms of rights, obligations, and benefits to society,
fairness, or specific virtues. It is not just about what the case is or what is most acceptable or
convenient (Preston, 1996). In the case study The Typo, writer is placed in a head of marketing

Oppositely subjective site of an ethical dilemma is when an emotional component has affected an
individual s response the way a dilemma was seen and settled (MacNiven, 1993). As a guide by
solving ethical dilemmas moral judgements are used. Shaw at al. (2009, p. 28) highlights, a moral
judgement to be strong, it must be supportable by a defensible moral standard, together with relevant
facts. People are using moral standards as a guide on what is right and what is wrong. To make
morally strong, justifiable, right decision marketing manager of pharmaceutical company should
consider three factors. Firstly, moral judgement needs to be logical, therefore marketing manager
should not follow his personal preferences and feelings, instead he should look for motives and proofs
to support the judgements. Logical judgements need to match with our other moral and non moral
beliefs (Shaw et al, 2009). For that reason marketing manager should not simply follow his personal
preferences by keeping his job. He should consider option about informing doctors of typographical

informed judgment, marketing manager should collect as much as possible evidence; for instance,

Why Is Emmett Till Is Wrong
Emmett Till, a 14 year old African American boy from Chicago, was brutally murdered. Emmett was
visiting relatives in Money, Mississippi and went into a small store, but no one really knows what
happened inside the store. Till had a slight stutter because he d had polio as a young child. He was
taught to whistle before he said a hard word. Carolyn told her husband, Roy Bryant, that Emmett said
Bye, baby and whistled at her and she felt insulted. Emmett was kidnapped, tortured, and killed by
J.W. Milam and Roy Bryant. Roy Bryant and J.W. Milam beat, gouged out his eye, tied him to a

B@B Bayer Case Study Essay
1.The original motivation behind Bayer s decision to launch the Makrolon ingredient branding
concept was, to give Bayer and it s partner s the ability to achieve a differentiation of themselves from
the competition and competing products by means of a branding strategy. It was important to Bayer to
highlight the advantages of Makrolon and transfer this positive image to the end product with the help
of a brand name. With this differentiation it gives the ingredient a unique selling proposition, or USP
and encourages the end customer to give preference to products with the Makrolon logo or even keep

materialized though ingredient branding campaigns and multistage marketing strategies, such as
cooperation marketing. Where each partner finances its own part, and resulted in a win, win situation.
The integration of advertising and public relations pushes the message to more consumers minds. This
also lead the end user the willingness to pay more for products labeled with Makrolon ingredients and
increase demand and today Makrolon is a well known brand.

Causes Of The Stamp Act
On March 22, 1765 the British Soldiers got a raise. The stamp act is when the British Parliament put a
tax on paper, legal documents, and any other publication. The stamp act started on March 22, 1765
and lasted until November 1775. What was the stamp act and how did it lead to the American
Revolution. The sugar act nobody really cared about and was passive about. When the stamp act was
passed the colonist became enraged. Many colonist boycotted the items with the new tax soon after
the law was passed. The colonist repealed this event about a week later. This lead to the townshend

How Far Do You Agree With Buckley s
I strongly agree with Buckely s essay because it stresses the author s theory that we wait and expect
for someone else to complain about fixing an uncomfortable situation, instead of doing it ourselves.
Buckley shows an example of this when he writes about himself suffocating in an 85 degrees train.
People could not despise the heat as well but they assumed someone would tell them to change the
temperature. He says, we will sit in an oven or endure a racking headache before undertaking a head
on, I m here to tell you a complaint (Buckley, 62). I agree with Buckley because I have seen people do
it multiple times, including myself. I found it unbelievable when he and his wife were at the movie
theatre and even if the image was blurry, no one

Development cost is capitalised over future period in determining accounting profit but deducted in
the period they are incurred when calculating taxable income (IAS 12, 2012). This will cause Gravatt
Ltd to pay more taxes in the future. Moreover, the company actually had a deferred tax liability of
$80million. This is considered material when comparing to equity of $570million. Thus, it should be
disclosed in annual report as required by AASB 1031.
2.2.3 Tax losses Directors believed that neither current tax liability nor a deferred tax liability was
necessary as the company was making tax losses because of huge allowable deductions available for
exploration and development costs. According to Leo, Hoggett, amp; Sweeting (2012), tax loss
provides future deduction for the company, hence deductible temporary difference exists and deferred
tax asset arises. In facts, Gravatt Ltd had an income tax expense of $24.3million instead of tax losses
if it followed the accounting standard. This might be due to its taxable income was still more than tax
deduction after considering the development costs. Therefore, argument of directors is invalid as
according to AASB 112, tax loss arises when a company s tax deductions exceeds its taxable income.
2.3 Information utility to users of financial report of deferred tax liabilities AASB 112 provides
disclosure requirement in relation to tax in general purpose of financial statement prepared for

Three Dimensional Printing Essay
More Types of Three dimensional Printing Processes
Larry Hornbeck created digital light processing in 1987. Hornbeck invented the digital micro mirror
device, first used for cinema projectors. This micro mirror device can be used for digital light
processing, which uses arc lamps to harden a liquid plastic resin. Digital light processing is a low cost
method and reduces waste. Selective laser melting uses a high power laser beam to fuse and melt
metallic powders. The laser fully melts the powder into a solid 3D object. Selective laser melting uses
software to cut the object into 2D layers for printing. This 3D printing method is used in the aerospace

The University of California s Engineering department is testing technology related to 3D printing
houses, and exploring the possibility of electrical and plumbing work being printed too. This would
allow houses to be built in twenty hours. This could solve housing issues globally.
Seventeen million children around the world suffer from malnutrition. What if we could print a
balanced meal? To end world hunger, we need to be capable of manufacturing cheap but nutritious
food. In 2013, NASA gave a grant to a Texas engineering firm to create the world s first food 3D
printer. The models built can use chocolate or infused sugar to print. With more research and
development, this technology could one day save malnourished children around the world.
Lack of clean drinking water and sanitation measures for the disposal of waste are also big issues,
especially in developing countries. The University of Washington and charity Water for Humans are
partnering to create toilets and rainwater collection devices using three dimensional printing. Once
established, they plan to try this technology in Oaxaca, Mexico.
To help protect teak trees used to build boats in West Africa, waste plastic can be used to 3D print

Descriptive Speech About Baseball Game
Knock, knock, knock , the thunderous strikes upon the door wake us up in a hurry. Our coach appears
at the door at 6:30 A.M. The displeasure is lessened when he grants us our eighteen dollar meal money
from the American Legion. In a hurry, we pack our baseball bags and get dressed in our blue striped
uniforms. Once we were all aboard the vans supplied by the Legion, we started our drive to the
ballpark. White powder boundaries bind us within our sanctuary. The walnut colored turf lines the
basepaths, engulfing the dazzling white bases. The smell of the fresh open air and ascending scent of
morning dew. The sun beams its powerful rays upon the field and illuminates the ball park. Our eyes
are set on one thing, and one thing only, a state championship. The pledge of allegiance booms from
speakers within the press box, the signal that a baseball game is near its commencement. I will: keep
the rules, keep faith with my teammates, keep my temper, keep myself fit, keep a stout heart in defeat,
keep my pride under in victory, keep a sound soul, a clean mind, and a healthy body . The code of
sportsmanship that we live by for the duration we are with the American legion. After the first pitch is
thrown by a guest, and the last shout of play ball, we head to our dugouts and prepare for the next two
and a half hours of battle. Amongst the next two and a half hours balls jump off bats and sore through
the air. Fielders trap the ball in their mitt like a cat pouncing on a mouse

George Santayana And Transcendentalism
George Santayana was an influential 20th century American thinker. He was born is Spain in 1836 and
arrived with his family to the United States when a child. Santayana spent a substantial amount of his
time working at Harvard teaching in the department of philosophy. Santayana is often portrayed as a
realist, a materialist, and a naturalist. These entitlements accompany Santayana well with is his mature
philosophy. He was skeptical about religious matters and believed that the pervasiveness of religious
beliefs and faiths are of value of understanding but not accepting or practicing. Being a naturalist or

Either we share Emerson s intuition or we do not. Either we see the beauty of the whole or we do not.
And if we do share Emerson s spirituality, we also share his category of mistakes, the confusion of the
logical relationship between good and evil with the possibility that good deeds or characters may
emerge in response to evil experiences. Later, Santayana concludes that Emerson is optimistic in
regards to his nature, his form of life, or his character rather than his thought. Although Emerson
thinks he is making a critical point, actually it is his gratuitous affection for any and all things natural,
in other words, his way of living rather than a theory or ways of thinking. Emerson s optimism is
something that has to be shown or exemplified biographically, not vindicated metaphysically or
epistemologically. In conclusion, Santayana believes Transcendentalists think nature is a product of
the mind, and without the mind nature would not exist. Both Calvinism and Transcendentalism were
beginnings to a presented belief. In order to categorize one as such, Santayana describes the mind to
be distressed, and have other radical subjective criticism of knowledge. When these two ideas
disappeared, systems ceased to be sensibly understood. They became only sacred mysteries. Therefore

My Love For Music Started
The Delicate Music
My love for music began before I was even born. In the womb, I listened to music. My mom was like
any typical first baby mom, that lets their baby listen to classical and instrumental music. I listened
that beautiful, delicate music, before I set foot on this earth. I loved all the sound of instruments deep
and high play together, to make a masterpiece. This is when my love for music started to bloom.
When I reached about 5th grade, we had to choose what type of ensemble we wanted to be apart of.
The choices were choir and band. Of course, I chose band, the problem was I didn t know what I
wanted to play. Before we were put into the class, we had the opportunity to choose what ... Show

I prayed that this instrument was the one. I took a nice long, deep breath and blew almost all the air in
my lungs, into the wooded recorder. A loud squeak, exploded from the instrument. I jump, not
expected to play such a disgusting sound. I giggled, and so did the teacher. He suggested that I blow
less air, to get a better sound. I position my lips back on to the mouthpiece, and blew a less amountq of
air, so I wouldn t get that volger sound again. Then I heard it. My first note! The sound trickled from
the instrument into the room, filling it with my beautiful sound. Suddenly, that sound formed it that
horrific squeak I heard the first time. I giggled harder, and so did the teacher. This is one. , he stated to
my mother how was standing next to the chair I was sitting on. I had forgot she was there for a second.
This was my first step into the music I had always listen to. Now, I could be the one making it.
As time went, I grew as a musician. When 7th grade came around the corner, my conductor stated the
a competition was going on called, The Solo Ensemble Festival. In the competition, you could play
with another person, which would be an ensemble, or a solo. I heard about it in 6th grade, but you
couldn t sign up to be in it, until you were in 7th grade. This gave me the opportunity to show off my
talent. I ask a couple of my friend if they wanted to play with me in the solo

Burning The United States Flag
Burning the United States Flag Through the years of America, there have been multiple accounts of
flag desecration. Flag desecration is a term that is used to describe a various set of acts that
intentionally destroy, damage, or mutilate a flag in public, and in this case, the American flag. Citizen
s typically doing this treasonous act when they want to make a political point against their country or
policies in the country or another country. Some of these actions include: burning it, urinating or
defecating on it, defacing it with slogans, stepping upon it, damaging it with stones or guns, cutting or

The court said the government cannot carve out a symbol of unity and prescribe a set of approved
messages to be associated with that symbol . . . The court also said that the flag burning did not cause
or threaten to cause a breach of the peace. After this happened, Texas asked the Supreme Court to look
at their situation and Johnson s case. In result to this case, the majority of the court noted that the
Texas law discriminated upon the law. They feel that this act might bring up anger in other people and
more flag burning. The majority of the court also agreed that Johnson had the right to use that form of
symbolic speech because it is protected by the first amendment. They find this act is very offensive,
but the society s outrage alone is not justification for depressing Johnson s freedom of speech. The
first amendment, as written in the constitution, forbids the abridgement of speech , but we have not
taken upon the writing that it spreads past spoken and written. Any citizen has the wright to use his or
her form of speech in his or way of choosing. These forms can be in words, or written down on paper.
These ways of speech can also be used in actions, and these actions can express an idea of language as
well. When Johnson decided to burn the American flag, he was using his form of speech to get his
point across to the new president. When the state came after him, they were in the wrong because of
this amendment. Because of this, it was

Running head: COGNITIVE PROCESSES
Cognitive Processes
Kimberly Benoit
University of Phoenix
Abstract
Cognitive processes helps to obtain information and make conscious and subconscious assumptions
about the world around us. There are five conventional senses are utilized in this complex process as a
way of gathering information. Cognitive processes are unobservable; researchers remain to study ways
to come up with behaviors or measures of performance to mirror cognitive processes (Robinson
Reigler Robinson Reigler, 2008). The intention of this paper is to describe memory, language and
learning. Explanation of these cognitive processes will be carefully explored. A summarization of

Learning is how we adapt, develop, change and grow. Language, explains how and why an individual
understands what another person has written or expressed (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). When
children acquire a first language, they build on what they know as well as conceptual information that
discriminates and helps create categories for the objects, relations and events they experience. This
provides the starting point for language from the age of 12 months on. So children first set up
conceptual representations, then add linguistic representations for talking about experience (Denise
Boyd, 2002).
Learning
Learning is distinguished from behavioral changes arising from such processes as maturation and
illness (Reuters, 2012). Learning is not just a change in behavior; it is a change in the way an
individual thinks, understands, or feels (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). The ability to learn is one
of the most exceptional human characteristics. Learning occurs continuously throughout a person s
lifetime. To define learning, it is necessary to analyze what happens to the individual. An individual s
way of perceiving, thinking, feeling, and doing may change as a result of a learning experience.
Nevertheless, learning can be characterized as a change in behavior as a result of experience. This can
be physical and evident, or it may involve intricate intellectual or attitudinal changes which affect
behavior in more subtle ways (Colman, 2006). Learning

The Background And Nature Of The Movement For National...
Garibaldi went to the USA, Austria backed out of the war therefore handing Lombardy to Sardinia.
Treaty of Zurich ends northern Italy tension. Tuscany, Modena, and Parma seek annexation by
Sardinia. Italy was scattered during the 1850s but came together in the 1860s and 70s to really become
a world power. Piedmont became the unlikely unifying power of Italy. Victor Emmanuel II was the
driving force. Sardinia fought against Russia in the Crimean war and won. Sardinia was overall
different because while being small they managed to get a lot done to further the unification of Italy.
Explain the background and nature of the movement for national unification in Italy. What role had
Mazzini played? What had happened in 1848 to the unification movement?
After the fall of Napoleon, Italy was controlled mostly by Austria and the Habsburgs. The movement
for national unification in Italy started with revolts and demanding change to the kings. Nationalists
were influenced by other people in other countries that had successfully revolted, for example like in
Spain in 1820. The Kingdom of Two Sicilies was conquered and convinced the king to establish a new
constitution. Mazzini helped with Italian unification by creating a secret society called Young Italy.
The goal of Mazzini s new group was to promote nationalism and convince people why there should
be a unified Italy. In 1848, revolutions all over Italy occurred because nationalists did not want Austria
to have control over them.

Asian Americans Academic Success
School Attendance and Family Expectations Among Asian Americans Race, gender and education are
status determinants in today s society. Asian Americans academic success comes from a combination
of helpful parents, a motivation to succeed, a supportive academic space, a supportive community and
economic resources. In this paper, I will argue that Asian Americans attend college due to their
cultural roots and familial expectations. Along the way to success are some hardships like stereotypes,
gender differences and economic difficulties, but there is also prosperity in means of cultural and
familial involvement. Compared to other racial or ethnic backgrounds, hard work and education are
frequently viewed as being factors that all Asian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Teachers were given a list of these students. Not knowing the students were chosen at random, the
researchers called this the Pygmalion Effect, or a self fulfilling expectation. In the first and second
grade the student s grades improved dramatically and 47 percent of those students gained 20 points on
an IQ test they took. Since the teachers had higher expectations for these students, this made the
students feel more capable of doing things (Kristof, 2015). Stereotypes have a lot to do with the
effects of an individual s success or a group s success. The article uses a stereotype that Asian
Americans are supposed to be good at math, and even though some can live up to that expectation,
troubles are created for those who cannot live up to that expectation. This stereotype makes Asian
Americans less focused on being personally creative and seems more focused on memorization,
sticking to the book and following equations. According to a TED Talk starring Chimamanda Ngozi
Adichie, the danger of a single story is explained. The danger of a single story is a critical
misunderstanding of a certain culture, or a person. Adichie reminds the listeners that we must tell our
own stories that are about our own personal experiences because stereotypes are incomplete. She
explains how single stories rob people of dignity and they emphasize how people are different rather
than similar. When we reject the single story,

The Role Of A Middle Class Mother And Wife
Donna Stone portrayed the idealized role of a middle class mother and wife in during the late 1950 s
in The Donna Reed Show. She was always well dressed and put together. She cooked and cleaned for
her family and took care of the children. Flash forward 60 years later and the present day reality of a
middle class mother could not be more different. From 1975 to 2009, the labor force rate of mothers
with children 18 years old and younger changed from 47.5 percent to 71.6 percent (Bianchi, 2011).
The work and family policies, however, have failed to change with the times are still very similar to
what they were during the 1950 s (Blades Rowe Finkbeiner). This is an issue because with more

It is reported that the average working parent in America misses five to nine days a week due to issues
with child care (Impact Brief One). Unfortunately it is difficult to find affordable childcare that fits all
of a families needs. One of the biggest stressors and conflicts at home for families comes from trying
to finance the necessary childcare. Bianchi explains that for the majority of the working class in the
United States, family income is too high to earn government subsidized care, yet not high enough to
afford high quality care. For example, full time center care for an infant in a center ranges from $4,863
to $16,430(Parents and the High Cost of Child Care 2013 Report). In addition, working mothers also
face the issue of the family gap. Studies suggest that having a child decreases wages at ranges of 10%
to 15% (Simonsen Skipper). The wage gap between men and women has decreased over the past few
decades, but the wage gap between women with children and women without keeps growing. A reason
working mothers experience this family gap is because the United States has not changed it s family
policies regarding maternity leave and childcare. The countries that have developed policies for
maternity leave and childcare have been more successful at closing the gender gap as well as the
family gap (Waldfogel, 1998). This creates paying for childcare an even bigger burden and issue to
solve.

Tthe Improtance of Note Taking
Note taking
Taking note is one of the best ways to prepare for exam. Reading different books, collecting
information from other sources and merging all the notes together helps to gives a clear image and
deeper understanding on specific topic. Using an outline format I try to get as much information as i
can in a piece of paper and record the lecture at the same time as the tutor will not wait for the student
to write notes down. Listening to the recorder again and again helps to reorganize my notes as well as
avoid confusion. Recall the new terms mentioned by the teacher while teaching in lesson as they
might be very important for the exam. While writing notes, I try to summarize each section on my
own word by using abbreviation, different font style, bullet points and diagrams. This helps me to
develop my shorthand making it easier to memorize. As well as the notes in lecture, I try using
different revision aids like revision guide books and different revision websites like www.s cool.co.uk
and www.revisionworld.co.uk. Revision guides are a very effective and good way of revising since
they are very straightforward ,compressive and has all the information that are essential to get a good
grade in an examination. Highlighting the crucial data using different highlighters while reading
different books and underline any stressed terms. Different colourful colours grasps my eyes attention

Rosea Lake Judgments Analysis

Rosea Lake s Judgments
Judgements, a photograph captured by Rosea Lake, can be seen as an attempt to address the double
standard women face when presenting themselves to the world. The photo depicts the back of a young
woman s leg with her skirt hem slightly lifted. Horizontal markings on the subject s leg are
reminiscent of those on a measuring cup or ruler. The markings on the woman s leg are meant to be
length markings, specifically the length of a woman s garment hem. The horizontal markings don t
mark specific length measurements, such as centimeters or inches. Rather, the markings depict how a
sexist mainstream society would react to seeing such skirt lengths on young women. ... Show more

It s to the point, aesthetically pleasing, and brings to light an issue that isn t often discussed in
mainstream media. It also disproves a common antifeminist stereotype that all feminists are hairy,
butch man hatters, because the subject is a slender, hairless, assumingly attractive white women.
However, though I admire the piece and the message it shares, I do find myself disgruntled with it. As
a feminist, intersectionality is very important to me. I love supporting women of all shapes, sizes,
races, backgrounds, ages, social status, geographical location, and specific circumstance. Though the
issue of sexual objectification is a problem many women face, this seems like amn issue that s specific
to young, middle class women living in first world countries, specifically America. Additionally,
sexual objectification may be perceived differently, and typically more severely, pending on weight,
size, or race. Since the subject is an able bodied, slender, white women, I m not sure if I feel like it s
showing the most accurate depiction of your average victim of sexual objectification. Though it may
not be the most representative depiction, I can only assume that Lake s intentions were good when
creating this piece of art, and I think she made her point well. I believe that Rosea Lake s Judgements
is an important part of feminist media, and it sets the grounds for further discussion about how else

DMF A new Biofuel What Is DMF
DMF, a subordinate of furan, is a heterocyclic compound with the recipe (CH3)2C4H2O
Firstly, the gravimetric vitality thickness, or lower warming worth, of DMF is roughly 1/3 higher than
ethanol, much nearer to that of gas, which enhances mileage for the same size of fuel tank. Regarding
volume, the lower warming estimation of DMF is under 10% lower than gas and more than 40%
higher than ethanol.
Also, dissimilar to ethanol, DMF is insoluble in water, which makes it simpler to store.
Thirdly, DMF has a higher breaking point, which makes it not so much unpredictable but rather more

Adam Smith And John Maynard Keynes Summary
Modern macroeconomic theory can be traced back to the ideas of both Adam Smith, (1723 1790) and
John Maynard Keynes (1883 1946). Smith, a Scottish philosopher and economist, is most famous for
laying out the fundamental principles of economic theory in his book An Inquiry into the Nature and
Causes of the Wealth of Nations. In his renowned work, Smith developed the framework of a classical
free market economy where consumable goods can be bought and sold with no government
restriction. Smith drew from the previous but scattered research of others to found what was to
become known as the field of economics. Following in Smith s footsteps, John Maynard Keynes, a
British economist, fundamentally changed the ideas and policies of modern economics. Keynes
transformed economics from an analytical tool into a policy oriented system. John Maynard Keynes
built upon the works of Adam Smith to create an economic system that is still in place today. Their
contribution to the Industrial Revolution was not one of business or product, but rather one of idea and
policy; their product is economics.
Adam Smith was born on June 5, 1723, in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. At the age of 14, Smith attended the
University of Glasgow where the lectures of Francis Hutcheson significantly impacted him. Three
years later, Smith attended Balliol College in Oxford. Smith attended Balliol for seven years before
receiving a bachelor of arts degree. Upon Graduation, Smith returned to Kirkcaldy for a few years

The Effect On The Rule Of Law
When the rule of law has been established by societal conventions, it can be changed when the
government coerces the enforcement of unfair rules. When the rule of law is established through the
government, smuggling will often undermine it because the law is not being applied equally to the
smugglers, and they gain an unfair advantage in the market. One can argue that the smugglers are
responding to unfair tariffs that prevent the rule of law because they as importers have to a tax that
domestic producers do not have to pay. If the rule of law has been established so tariffs are small, and
fair, then the argument is flawed. Negative effects on the rule of law caused by the tariff will be
smaller than the negative effect on the rule of law when the law does not apply equally to everyone,
and smugglers bribe official to successfully import their goods so when the rule of law is well
established, smuggling undermines it.
When a country does not have a well established rule of law, then smuggling can help created a strong
De Facto rule of law by encouraging equitable societal conventions. If tariffs are sufficiently high, and
importation or exportation bans are comprehensive, then people stop applying the government s rules
and in turn they create a new set of societal conventions that people adhere too. When this happens,
the rule of law is strengthen because smugglers avoid stifling tariffs, and the rules are applied more
equitably to foreign producers, and domestic

Who Is Petruchio In The Taming Of The Shrew
While the conclusion of The Taming of the Shrew seems to suggest that Kate s opinionated, obstinate
behavior has been subdued by Petruchio, further in depth analysis of her character reveals that she is
merely acting as the stereotypical submissive wife. The entire plot of this comedy revolves around the
challenge of finding a husband for Katherine the wild hawk and is driven by the recurring themes of
deceit and trickery (18). For example, Lucentio disguises himself as the schoolteacher Cambio to
become closer to and woo Bianca. Hortensio, also hoping to win Bianca s hand, plays the role as the
music teacher Litio. Arriving in Padua seeking a wealthy wife, Petruchio assumes several personas to

it be the moon, or sun or what you please...Henceforth I vow it shall be so for me (62). Katherine does
not truly believe Petruchio. The primary reason she has chosen to be submissive to him is to avoid his
cruel punishments when she does not comply with his decisions. After experiencing his abuse, she
realizes that her life benefits more when acting as the dutiful wife. Thus, Katherine conceals her true
independent character. By the conclusion of the play, none of the characters are persuaded that

Introduction:
Electronic hearing aids have undergone recent technological changes.(Dillon, 2001; Valente,
2002a).Digital technology has brought to the hearing aid industry is that of digital signal processing
features such as more number of channel and band, multi memory HA(Chung, 2004a, 2004b). These
features can offer advantages in many difficult listening situations, but the scientific evidence that they
produce a significant increase in the satisfaction of hearing aid users is still fairly weak (Wong et
al2003). It is also clear that modern hearing aids and fitting rationales do not adequately address some
of the most fundamental requirements of hearing aid users. Kochkin (2002)reports that 83% of HA
users would like to hear more soft sounds, and 81% find loud sounds uncomfortable. As increase in
number channels and band costmore money. Most modern hearing aid manufacturers offer products at
multiple technology levels. To a patient, a difference in technology level often means a difference in
cost. To an audiologist, a difference in technology level may mean a difference in patient outcome.

How Does Poe Create Fear In The Tell Tale Heart
The Creation of Fear and Dread A scary story should make the reader have chills and gain a sense of

told by a guy who has a problem with an old guy s eye so he decides to kill him to free himself of the
eye. Throughout the story he attempts to prove he is not mad. Poe creates fear and dread through his
characters, suspense, and the conflicts in the story. First of all, one of the ways Poe creates dread and
fear in the story The Tell Tale Heart is through the characters. The first character is the narrator and he

suspects anything, it would make it significantly hard to kill him. The narrator was careful of what he
said to the old man for that reason. The major conflict in the story is the murdering of the old man:
With a loud yell, I... leaped into the room. He shrieked once... I dragged him to the floor, and pulled
the heavy bed over him (Poe 305). The way the narrator kills the old man is violent and creates fear in

The History Of Politics In Texas
With every state comes a specific and distinctive history of politics, and, more often than not, a brief
understanding of the cultural changes that occurred throughout the years. Texas has one of the most
interesting shifts: an almost clean cut shift from a Democratic, or blue , state, to a Republican, or red ,
state, after nearly 100 years of Democratic dominance. This is comparable to the state of Virginia,
which also saw Republican representation after Democratic dominance for nearly 50 years. However,
where Texas remains mainly Republican today, Virginia is an accurate embodiment of a two party
state . With this being said, that doesn t mean Texas will stay this way. While the Lone Star state still

This campaign s goal was to unite white Virginian Democrats so they could work together to prevent
desegregation in public schools. Many schools, including an entire school system, were shut down
between 1958 1959 to prevent integration. Most of the laws catered to this massive resistance were
overturned by state and federal courts within in a year, but some of the anti integration ideology
continued to persist in Virginia for many years. Byrd ran for governor of Virginia in 1925, and thus the
Byrd Organization was born. Byrd serves as governor until 1930, and then was elected to the United
States Senate in 1933, where he served until his retirement in 1965. For nearly 40 years, Byrd
familiarized himself with the courthouse cliques , otherwise known as the state officers in each county.
With every relationship he created, a level of respect was given to Byrd, giving him unofficial power
over these officers. While these courthouse cliques still made recommendations for certain candidates
for statewide offices, Byrd only considered them after careful consultation . It became obvious that no
candidate in Virginia would succeed without his stamp of approval. Byrd remained in power by
greatly limiting the spread of power throughout the state; he amended the state constitution to reduce
the number of statewide elected officials to just three, including the governor, the lieutenant governor,
and attorney general, and also rescheduled the

not a surprise when a downhill skier suffers a serious injury. This being said, there is a lot more

Although, when all disciplines are compared on an exposure time basis all disciplines are equally

The most frequently injured body parts were found to be the knee (35.6 %) and the lower leg (11.5 %),
with a rupture of the ACL being the most frequent diagnosis (13.6 % of all injuries). Other frequently
injured body parts were the lower back, pelvis, sacrum which combined had a rate of 11.5 %, the

Cardiovascular diseases negatively affect the heart or blood vessels of the body. One of these diseases
is known as Atherosclerosis. Atherosclerosis is a disease that causes the hardening and narrowing of
the arteries. Heart attacks and strokes await those that have these diseases (Joseph et al., 2009).
Atherosclerosis can be caused by high blood pressure, smoking, and high cholesterol. Endothelium are
a thin layer of cells that are supposed to keep the inside of the arteries smooth promoting healthy
blood flow. When the endothelium is damaged and bad cholesterol moves past this area it collects.
This causes plaque to form in the arteries restricting the flow of blood. There was a case study

examined to collect data on their health and life span. The information from this research suggested
there are lower mortality rates amongst the U.S. general population vs those in Law enforcement.
Arteriosclerotic heart disease deaths were elevated in law enforcement officers with service times of

The Major Causes Of British Resistance From The French And...
As the oppressive mother country of England and newfound monarch King George III sought to
harrow their way out of debt from the French and Indian War, they found the colonists as a way to
relieve their financial troubles. By wanting to decrease their financial debt, British Parliament
enforced tax burdens and tight regulations such as restriction of civil liberties and military measures
on the colonists. Although colonists wanted to separate from Britain due to unfair treatment, there was
still a strong bond with the mother country. Therefore colonial resistance was a direct result of British
error. British actions in the 1760s and 1770s escalated tensions in North American cities.
Parliamentary taxation was undeniably one of the most significant factors encouraging the colonies to
rebel in the years leading up to the revolution. The British government desperately needed to pay off
the debt from the French and Indian War and attempted to do so, in part, by imposing new taxes. With
each attempt, colonial resistance grew. Taxation without representation in Parliament was one of the
main reasons for colonial opposition. Although, there were still members of Parliament such as
Edmund Burke who understood that it was unjust to govern America without proper representation.
Burke stated in a speech to British Parliament, Govern America? As you govern an English town
which happens not to be represented in Parliament? Are Gentlemen really serious when they propose

Marijuana Should Be Banned Marijuana
Cannabis, otherwise known as marijuana, is a way of preparing the marijuana plant so that it can be
used as medicine or a psychoactive drug. It is the most extensively banned drug in Britain. However,
many local societies and organizations advocate a reform of its validity. These include NORML UK,
UKCSC Drug Equality Alliance, as well as Cannabis Law Reform. Other societies such as the Centre
for Social Justice and Skunk Sense argue in favour of cannabis remaining illegal (UK Government,
2014).
There is a widespread belief that Queen Victoria used cannabis to help relieve menstrual pain. It was
also used for other purposes: for instance, as food additives, or as clothing material. Cannabis and its
products have historically been so popular in Britain that its use remains a problem among the country
s citizens.
Nevertheless, the United Kingdom shows that a liberal approach to policy helps to reduce cannabis
use in the country. In mid 2003, Britain efficiently changed its rules about cannabis, giving police
officers the opportunity, do not use police alarms for criminals who have been caught for the first time
of possession of cannabis (for personal use). Earlier, the accused judged in court. But now, police have
warned the culprits directly on the street. All the warnings are recorded in the private affair, but it is
not for the trial in court (Turnbull, 2009; Warburton, May and Hough, 2005).

Literary Analysis of Battle Royal I m writing an analysis of Battle Royal by Ralph Ellison. It is told
from the first person point of view. This is a story about a young African American named Ralph
Ellison, who is trying to be accepted by white society. He is offered the opportunity to read his speech
he had written for his graduation at a gathering of the town s leading white citizens (p.286). Ralph
Ellison is told that he should partake in the Battle Royal before giving his speech as part of the

racist story. But unfortunately it truly reflects on how these individuals were treated during this time.
The big shots only want to be controlling racists, and get enjoyment from this. They will not accept
any behavior from the African Americans except submission. The idea of social equality between
them and the African Americans is quite appalling for them (p.297). They are strictly set against this
and will probably do what ever it takes to prevent this from happening. I liked the ambition of Ralph,
his determination to make sure that he is heard. He really feels as though his speech will make a huge

Analysis Of Johnny Depp, By Edward Scissorhands
Johnny Depp, is one of the most talented physical actors of this age. His unique and often wacky

captain Jack Sparrow, form Pirates of the Caribbean, Depp is also widely known for a number of other
interesting characters in a number of other interesting shows, one of his earliest being Edward
Scissorhands, in Edward Scissorhands (1990). The expansion of Depp s use of physical movement is
tremendous between Edward Scissor hands ad Pirates of the Caribbean. And though they both differ
tremendously in personality and physicality, they still maintain the wacky persona that is so
characteristic of Johnny Depp. First let us analyze whether or not Depp centers each character. And
the answer is that he centers both, but each differently. Edward Scissorhands is very centered, but
definitely not comfortably centered. Although he stands erect, he stands with his head pulled back and
his back very stiff, and his adds to the bizarreness of his strange character. Who stands like that? No

apprehension that are so strong in this character. Depp s second character, the famous Jack Sparrow, is

Development cost is capitalised over future period in determining accounting profit but deducted in the period they are incurred when calculating taxable income (IAS 12, 2012). This will cause Gravatt Ltd to pay more taxes in the future. Moreover, the company actually had a deferred tax liability of $80million. This is considered material when comparing to equity of $570million. Thus, it should be disclosed in annual report as required by AASB 1031. 2.2.3 Tax losses Directors believed that neither current tax liability nor a deferred tax liability was necessary as the company was making tax losses because of huge allowable deductions available for exploration and development costs. According to Leo, Hoggett, amp; Sweeting (2012), tax loss provides future deduction for the company, hence deductible temporary difference exists and deferred tax asset arises. In facts, Gravatt Ltd had an income tax expense of $24.3million instead of tax losses if it followed the accounting standard. This might be due to its taxable income was still more than tax deduction after considering the development costs. Therefore, argument of directors is invalid as according to AASB 112, tax loss arises when a company s tax deductions exceeds its taxable income. 2.3 Information utility to users of financial report of deferred tax liabilities AASB 112 provides disclosure requirement in relation to tax in general purpose of financial statement prepared for ... The displeasure is lessened when he grants us our eighteen dollar meal money from the American Legion. In a hurry, we pack our baseball bags and get dressed in our blue striped uniforms. Once we were all aboard the vans supplied by the Legion, we started our drive to the ballpark. White powder boundaries bind us within our sanctuary. The walnut colored turf lines the basepaths, engulfing the dazzling white bases. The smell of the fresh open air and ascending scent of morning dew. The sun beams its powerful rays upon the field and illuminates the ball park. Our eyes are set on one thing, and one thing only, a state championship. The pledge of allegiance booms from speakers within the press box, the signal that a baseball game is near its commencement. I will: keep the rules, keep faith with my teammates, keep my temper, keep myself fit, keep a stout heart in defeat, keep my pride under in victory, keep a sound soul, a clean mind, and a healthy body . The code of sportsmanship that we live by for the duration we are with the American legion. After the first pitch is thrown by a guest, and the last shout of play ball, we head to our dugouts and prepare for the next two and a half hours of battle. And if we do share Emerson s spirituality, we also share his category of mistakes, the confusion of the logical relationship between good and evil with the possibility that good deeds or characters may emerge in response to evil experiences. Later, Santayana concludes that Emerson is optimistic in regards to his nature, his form of life, or his character rather than his thought. Although Emerson thinks he is making a critical point, actually it is his gratuitous affection for any and all things natural, in other words, his way of living rather than a theory or ways of thinking. Emerson s optimism is something that has to be shown or exemplified biographically, not vindicated metaphysically or epistemologically. In conclusion, Santayana believes Transcendentalists think nature is a product of the mind, and without the mind nature would not exist. Both Calvinism and Transcendentalism were beginnings to a presented belief. Language, explains how and why an individual understands what another person has written or expressed (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). When children acquire a first language, they build on what they know as well as conceptual information that discriminates and helps create categories for the objects, relations and events they experience. This provides the starting point for language from the age of 12 months on. So children first set up conceptual representations, then add linguistic representations for talking about experience (Denise Boyd, 2002). Learning Learning is distinguished from behavioral changes arising from such processes as maturation and illness (Reuters, 2012). Learning is not just a change in behavior; it is a change in the way an individual thinks, understands, or feels (Gregory Robertson Riegler, 2008). The ability to learn is one of the most exceptional human characteristics. Learning occurs continuously throughout a person s lifetime. To define learning, it is necessary to analyze what happens to the individual. An individual s way of perceiving, thinking, feeling, and doing may change as a result of a learning experience. Nevertheless, learning can be characterized as a change in behavior as a result of experience. This can be physical and evident, or it may involve intricate intellectual or attitudinal changes which affect behavior in more subtle ways (Colman, 2006). Learning ... After the fall of Napoleon, Italy was controlled mostly by Austria and the Habsburgs. The movement for national unification in Italy started with revolts and demanding change to the kings. Nationalists were influenced by other people in other countries that had successfully revolted, for example like in Spain in 1820. The Kingdom of Two Sicilies was conquered and convinced the king to establish a new constitution. Mazzini helped with Italian unification by creating a secret society called Young Italy. The goal of Mazzini s new group was to promote nationalism and convince people why there should be a unified Italy. Unfortunately it is difficult to find affordable childcare that fits all of a families needs. One of the biggest stressors and conflicts at home for families comes from trying to finance the necessary childcare. Bianchi explains that for the majority of the working class in the United States, family income is too high to earn government subsidized care, yet not high enough to afford high quality care. For example, full time center care for an infant in a center ranges from $4,863 to $16,430(Parents and the High Cost of Child Care 2013 Report). The wage gap between men and women has decreased over the past few decades, but the wage gap between women with children and women without keeps growing. A reason working mothers experience this family gap is because the United States has not changed it s family policies regarding maternity leave and childcare. Smith, a Scottish philosopher and economist, is most famous for laying out the fundamental principles of economic theory in his book An Inquiry into the Nature and Causes of the Wealth of Nations. In his renowned work, Smith developed the framework of a classical free market economy where consumable goods can be bought and sold with no government restriction. Smith drew from the previous but scattered research of others to found what was to become known as the field of economics. When the rule of law is established through the government, smuggling will often undermine it because the law is not being applied equally to the smugglers, and they gain an unfair advantage in the market. One can argue that the smugglers are responding to unfair tariffs that prevent the rule of law because they as importers have to a tax that domestic producers do not have to pay. If the rule of law has been established so tariffs are small, and fair, then the argument is flawed. Negative effects on the rule of law caused by the tariff will be smaller than the negative effect on the rule of law when the law does not apply equally to everyone, and smugglers bribe official to successfully import their goods so when the rule of law is well established, smuggling undermines it. When a country does not have a well established rule of law, then smuggling can help created a strong De Facto rule of law by encouraging equitable societal conventions. If tariffs are sufficiently high, and importation or exportation bans are comprehensive, then people stop applying the government s rules and in turn they create a new set of societal conventions that people adhere too. • 29. How Does Poe Create Fear In The Tell Tale Heart The Creation of Fear and Dread A scary story should make the reader have chills and gain a sense of fear and dread. A story in which this happens is The Tell Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. This story is told by a guy who has a problem with an old guy s eye so he decides to kill him to free himself of the eye. Throughout the story he attempts to prove he is not mad. Poe creates fear and dread through his characters, suspense, and the conflicts in the story. First of all, one of the ways Poe creates dread and fear in the story The Tell Tale Heart is through the characters. The first character is the narrator and he sets the mood through his madness, actions, and being two faced. The narrator insists he is not mad, but the reader is aware ... He does this to make the old man think nothing is going on. If the old man suspects anything, it would make it significantly hard to kill him. The narrator was careful of what he said to the old man for that reason. The major conflict in the story is the murdering of the old man: With a loud yell, I... leaped into the room. He shrieked once... I dragged him to the floor, and pulled the heavy bed over him (Poe 305). The way the narrator kills the old man is violent and creates fear in the story. The History Of Politics In Texas With every state comes a specific and distinctive history of politics, and, more often than not, a brief understanding of the cultural changes that occurred throughout the years. Texas has one of the most interesting shifts: an almost clean cut shift from a Democratic, or blue , state, to a Republican, or red , state, after nearly 100 years of Democratic dominance. This is comparable to the state of Virginia, which also saw Republican representation after Democratic dominance for nearly 50 years. However, where Texas remains mainly Republican today, Virginia is an accurate embodiment of a two party state . With this being said, that doesn t mean Texas will stay this way. Many schools, including an entire school system, were shut down between 1958 1959 to prevent integration. Most of the laws catered to this massive resistance were overturned by state and federal courts within in a year, but some of the anti integration ideology continued to persist in Virginia for many years. Byrd ran for governor of Virginia in 1925, and thus the Byrd Organization was born. Byrd serves as governor until 1930, and then was elected to the United States Senate in 1933, where he served until his retirement in 1965. For nearly 40 years, Byrd familiarized himself with the courthouse cliques , otherwise known as the state officers in each county. With every relationship he created, a level of respect was given to Byrd, giving him unofficial power over these officers. While these courthouse cliques still made recommendations for certain candidates for statewide offices, Byrd only considered them after careful consultation . It became obvious that no candidate in Virginia would succeed without his stamp of approval. Byrd remained in power by greatly limiting the spread of power throughout the state; he amended the state constitution to reduce the number of statewide elected officials to just three, including the governor, the lieutenant governor, and attorney general, and also rescheduled the ... Ski racing has always been a somewhat dangerous sport in which it is not a surprise when a downhill skier suffers a serious injury. This being said, there is a lot more progress to be made to reduce the frequency of injuries in ski racing. There are many studies being done to see exactly how dangerous ski racing is and many more to see how to reduce the rate of injury. Other frequently injured body parts were the lower back, pelvis, sacrum which combined had a rate of 11.5 %, the hand, finger and thumb which occured 8.9 % of the time, as well as the shoulder being hurt in 6.8 % of athletes. Atherosclerosis is a disease that causes the hardening and narrowing of the arteries. Heart attacks and strokes await those that have these diseases (Joseph et al., 2009). Atherosclerosis can be caused by high blood pressure, smoking, and high cholesterol. Endothelium are a thin layer of cells that are supposed to keep the inside of the arteries smooth promoting healthy blood flow. When the endothelium is damaged and bad cholesterol moves past this area it collects. This causes plaque to form in the arteries restricting the flow of blood. There was a case study (Violanti, Vena, Patralia, 1998) between the dates of 1950 and 1990 where 40 police officers were examined to collect data on their health and life span. The information from this research suggested there are lower mortality rates amongst the U.S. general population vs those in Law enforcement. Arteriosclerotic heart disease deaths were elevated in law enforcement officers with service times of 10 19 years and represented the majority of excess deaths amongst those with circulatory disease. • 35. The Major Causes Of British Resistance From The French And... As the oppressive mother country of England and newfound monarch King George III sought to harrow their way out of debt from the French and Indian War, they found the colonists as a way to relieve their financial troubles. By wanting to decrease their financial debt, British Parliament enforced tax burdens and tight regulations such as restriction of civil liberties and military measures on the colonists. Although colonists wanted to separate from Britain due to unfair treatment, there was still a strong bond with the mother country. Therefore colonial resistance was a direct result of British error. British actions in the 1760s and 1770s escalated tensions in North American cities. Parliamentary taxation was undeniably one of the most significant factors encouraging the colonies to rebel in the years leading up to the revolution. The British government desperately needed to pay off the debt from the French and Indian War and attempted to do so, in part, by imposing new taxes. With each attempt, colonial resistance grew. Taxation without representation in Parliament was one of the main reasons for colonial opposition. Although, there were still members of Parliament such as Edmund Burke who understood that it was unjust to govern America without proper representation. Burke stated in a speech to British Parliament, Govern America? As you govern an English town which happens not to be represented in Parliament? Are Gentlemen really serious when they propose this? • 36. Marijuana Should Be Banned Marijuana Cannabis, otherwise known as marijuana, is a way of preparing the marijuana plant so that it can be used as medicine or a psychoactive drug. It is the most extensively banned drug in Britain. However, many local societies and organizations advocate a reform of its validity. These include NORML UK, UKCSC Drug Equality Alliance, as well as Cannabis Law Reform. Other societies such as the Centre for Social Justice and Skunk Sense argue in favour of cannabis remaining illegal (UK Government, 2014). There is a widespread belief that Queen Victoria used cannabis to help relieve menstrual pain. It was also used for other purposes: for instance, as food additives, or as clothing material. Cannabis and its products have historically been so popular in Britain that its use remains a problem among the country s citizens. Nevertheless, the United Kingdom shows that a liberal approach to policy helps to reduce cannabis use in the country. In mid 2003, Britain efficiently changed its rules about cannabis, giving police officers the opportunity, do not use police alarms for criminals who have been caught for the first time of possession of cannabis (for personal use). Earlier, the accused judged in court. But now, police have warned the culprits directly on the street. All the warnings are recorded in the private affair, but it is not for the trial in court (Turnbull, 2009; Warburton, May and Hough, 2005). This is a story about a young African American named Ralph Ellison, who is trying to be accepted by white society. Ralph Ellison is told that he should partake in the Battle Royal before giving his speech as part of the entertainment. The big shots only want to be controlling racists, and get enjoyment from this. They will not accept any behavior from the African Americans except submission. The idea of social equality between them and the African Americans is quite appalling for them (p.297). They are strictly set against this and will probably do what ever it takes to prevent this from happening. I liked the ambition of Ralph, his determination to make sure that he is heard. He really feels as though his speech will make a huge impact for his people in his community. He is trying to become accepted into a society that does not want to accept him or his people. I agree with Paula Caudle, Naomi Lancaster, and Andy Stamper Students, University of North Carolina at Pembroke (http://www.uncp.edu/home/canada/work/allam/1914 /lit/ellison.htm) in their analysis of the blindfold in the story. Although he stands erect, he stands with his head pulled back and his back very stiff, and his adds to the bizarreness of his strange character. Who stands like that? No one.
