Understanding the Cuban American Culture
Miami Florida has the biggest Latin population than any other city in the United States. The majority
of Latin s being of Cuban descent. Since the Cuban revolution there have been constant waves of
immigrating Cubans to Miami. The result has been a Cuban American society that has created culture
diversity within. In order to understand the Cuban American culture you must understand its ethnic
origin, politics, and the varying times of immigration.
CUBAS ETHNIC ROOTS AND ORIGINS
The Cuban population consists of a variety of ethnic origins. In the early days before the Spanish
inhabited Cuba the population was made up of 90% Taino speaking American Indians ho had
displaced even earlier inhabitants. Shortly after came the Spanish conquest. ... Show more content on

Soviet economic and military support was crucial for Cuba. Soviet movements often aroused strong
disagreement from the United States. In 1962 the Soviet Union installed nuclear missile bases in
Cuba, the world stood at the brink of nuclear war as the U.S. government set up a naval blockade of
the island and demanded they remove the missiles. This was known as The Cuban missile crisis.
Cuban Soviet relations slowly deteriorated as Soviet political, economic, and social policies were
liberalized in the late 80s. The Cuban government refused to modify its approach to social and
economic policy. In 1991 the Soviet Union dissolved and withdrew its troops and its economic
support. The already troubled Cuban economy suffered further from the loss of vital military and
economic support. With severe shortages, unrest and dissatisfaction growing, Castro declared a special
period in peacetime of food rationing and energy conservation. Shortages of food, fuel, and medical
supplies were intensified by the ongoing U.S. trade embargo in Cuba.
Aware of China s success with a more capitalistic limited market, Castro decided to experiment with
capitalism. In 1993, he granted Cubans limited freedom to open small for profit businesses and allow
foreign tourism, including U.S dollars. But economic reform bred demand for political reforms. In
2003, Castro jailed many members from the Varela Project. A group who petitioned for political
reform,

Types Of Portfolio Management
Under certain conditions, however, the possibility of unexpected concentration among some industries
may exist, especially in the period of irrational exuberance and overestimated valuations. In the 1990s,
for example, the upsurge in investing in technology companies resulted in a market bubble. The
technology firms concentrated extremely high on the stock index. Accordingly, investors were putting
at a high risk for the reason that these overvalued companies were given ownership which was out of
proportion by the stocks bought by passive market funds. The aim of passive funds is not to
outperform the market or the index, but to follow the tracks of them. As a result, the performance of
the index will always be lower than the fund ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Standard deviations are an indicator of market volatility and represent risk. The lower standard
deviations, the lower risks of portfolios. Even though the expected market return of active portfolio
does not perform well, the risk of active portfolio is minimized. There is no short selling in the active
portfolio and the the active portfolio is diversified through balanced investment of these ten stocks.
Furthermore, the weights of 10 stocks in the active portfolio are more balanced than the passive
portfolio. Therefore, the investors who pursue high expected market return should choose passive
portfolio and risk averse investors should choose active portfolio. The investors should consider
transaction fees and management fees of active portfolio and investors can insist on choosing active
portfolio if they believe they can have higher return that offset these fees. In conclusion, the active
investing is more flexible than passive investing because active investing does not have to follow a
specific index like S P 500. According to Elton and Gruber (1997), the choice of the portfolio manager
to choose for active portfolio is mainly based on his or her perception on the degree of market
efficiency. There is no doubt that active investing is superior to passive portfolio when market mis
priced the asset. But active

The Importance Of Self Assessment
I was able to take three assessments that were able to tell me about my interests, skills, possible jobs
and education degrees that I could potentially pursue. The names of the three assessments are the:
Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator and StrenghtsQuest. I m going to take a look at
my results for each assessment and compare the similarities as well as the contrast. The highest
themes that were measured for me in the Strong Interest Inventory were the: Enterprising,
Conventional and Artistic. It s broken down into four categories which are Interests, work activities,
potential skills and values. For Enterprising, I felt that all four categories sum up me. The assessment
picked up on my leadership quality, ability to motivate and direct others.
The conventional theme did pick up that I have values of accuracy, stability, efficiency and paying
attention to details. It also said that I m interested in organization and setting up procedures which is
very true. That s thing at my current job that bothers me the most. The one thing I didn t agree with is
that I m in record keeping and I m not the best at that.
The Artistic theme was spot on as far as my interests and values. My interests were self expression, art
appreciation, communication and culture. The values were beauty, originality, independence and
imagination. I definitely view the world in color when dealing with most situations. There was a list of
my personal style scales preferences and the

The author helps visualize his idea with the story of Jonny Chapman, also known as Jonny Appleseed .
Mr. Appleseed was known for the expansion of apples all across Northern Pennsylvania to Mid West
Ohio by traveling and planting apple seeds all along the Mississippi River because of the high demand
for apples in the early 1800 s. Apples were in such high demand because apples had such a bitter taste
which was good for making hard cider also known as booze which sold out before the Prohibition Era.
Tulips have been placed with a class of plants that shape foods grown from the ground called
angiosperms, which initially dates approximately 100 million years back. Most plants recreated the
way our forefathers would have done it, through spores that made hereditarily indistinguishable clones
of their folks. Yet, angiosperms hit upon another method for spreading their qualities that gave them a
transformative favorable position. They delivered female cells that remained on the plant and male
cells in dust that could be spread to treat neighboring plants. In the meantime, the angiosperms made
themselves appealing to bugs, flying creatures, and honey bees, which brought about these animals
conveying dust, starting with one plant then onto the next, making an unfathomable blast of assorted
variety. Through some secretive, however exact transaction of shading, fragrance, and symmetry,
these cunning angiosperms advanced to

The Environment Of Aquatic Habitats
Aquatic habitats face many challenges that aren t found in terrestrial environments. Such as the water
density; water is much denser then air (800 times denser). The buoyancy of organisms tends to be
higher when they are in the water then in the air because of this. However some animals are denser
then the water and need to be aided to stay afloat. For example, some fish have a swim bladder that
they can adjust their buoyancy accordingly to be able to stay afloat. The greater density of water also
poses another challenge for the organisms living in it, moving through the water is a lot harder and it
creates a lot more drag on the animal as it moves through it. Therefore organisms who live in, or
spend a lot of time in an aquatic habitat will survive better if they have a more streamlined, dynamic
shape so that they can swim faster and with more ease, using up less energy.
Water is much less compressible the air, it s virtually impossible. For this reason it is much harder for
an organism to move through water then it is through the air. The air is compressed only slightly by
their body as they move through it so the air slips over them almost effortlessly as they pass through
it. Whereas an organism moves through water it has to completely displace the water to move through
it which creates a lot of drag due to the turbulence of this. Because of this, not only is moving through
air a lot easier and takes a lot less effort then moving through water but it is also a lot

King David s Dance Analysis
On Tuesday, April 11, I attended the University of Evansville s Springs Classic Wind Ensemble
production, which was performed in their Neu Chapel Sanctuary. The wind ensemble was composed
of approximately forty five performers. The various instruments included piccolo, bassoon,
euphonium, as well as the typical wind and brass instruments such as clarinets, flutes, trumpets, and
trombones. The University of Evansville s wind ensemble was conducted by Kenneth Steinsultz. The
wind ensemble opened the performance with their own variation of Stephen Shewan s King David s
Dance. The song comes from his album Parables of God and Man, which was released in 1997
(Albany Records). Before performing the second song, Kenneth Steinsultz warned the audience about

Shewan has composed music for various medias including orchestras, ensembles, and choirs. In
Biography of Stephen Shewan , Jubal Press claims he has the unique ability to join atonal technique
with romanticism, resulting in music that is much more than mere mental manipulation of pitches. It is
highly evocative and expressive. Numerous critics believe Shewan shows a well developed
understanding of choral voice and properly uses a comfortable command of both lyrical expression
and varied romantic to modern harmonization. Stephen Shewan is a considerable composer who
deserves a wide audience, and that is why his music doesn t fall under one category (Jubal Press).
Lastly, Juraj Filas Concerto for Horn and Wind Orchestra was composed during the early twenty first
century. Like the twentieth century, modern composers search for exciting and different modes of
expression. Unusual harmonies, tonal schemes, and the manipulation of rhythms create unique styles
of music. However, some of the greatest composers stick to the traditional forms of music that way an

Why Pit Bulls Are Bad
Everyone has a favorite animal as well as a animal that they can not stand. Some animals are used for
special jobs. For instance police officers use German Shepherds to help them find drugs they call them
the K 9 unit. Other dogs however have a bad reputation because people teach them to do things that
could hurt someone. Most people think pit bulls are bad because of other people s opinions. Pit bulls
should be given a chance.
People using pit bulls for dog fights is a problem today. People like to make money. Using a pit bulls
in a dog fight and winning makes a lot of money. Since people like money and a win could get you at
least ten thousand dollars, people like to participate in dog fights(Simpson). That s only if your pit bull

Dogs only do what their owners tell them to do. If you want them to protect your home and your
children, that is exactly what they will do. If you want them to attack on command, they will listen.
However, they could attack someone without being commanded to do so which could cause a
problem. Pit bull have a reputation based on how majority of their owners have taught them. They do
not have a good reputation. They were only trying to please the ones who they thought loved them.
They did not know what they were doing was wrong. They thought attacking people is what they were
supposed to do. The owners just let them be punished as a breed. They attack anyone from a baby to
an adult. It is not what they meant to do. It is only what they have been taught to do. It is not too late
to save the breed. They can change but people need to focus on the main problem and it is not the dog.
Pit bulls are not the only breed that will attack. You have to provoke or command them to do so. If
they do not have a good reason to attack you that is a problem and it should be handled by authority.
You should not handle the situation by yourself because it can cause severe injuries. Most of the time
it is the owner s fault that the dog attacked someone. This can be because the owner mistreated the

Psalms Requirements
1. Introduction
The book of Psalms is an indispensable literature for those believers that wish to worship God in Spirit
and in truth. The name Psalms originates from the Hebrew language which means praises . However,
Christian worship is not limited to singing songs of praise. Biblical worship encompasses our heart s
desire, our love for God. This kind of worship has been a part of every great spiritual awakening in
history.
Historically, the book of Psalms covers the time of Moses until the end of the exile of Israel. Although
scholars consider the titles of the Psalms difficult to comprehend, they assume that the title of each
Psalm explains the historical context of the biblical passage. One of the main purposes of the book of
Psalms ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover, it is considered an essential source of God s law. Scholars assume that the psalms have
been used in the cult of the second temple as a liturgical practice. According to Sigmund Mowinckel,
in the past, the book of Psalms was the main hymnbook of Israel. Mowinckel affirms that the title of
the book of Psalms means cultic songs of Praise and the term cultic involves worship, doctrine, and
behavior. In other words, cult may be defined as the socially established and regulated holy acts and
words in which the encounter and communion of the Deity with the congregation is established,
developed, and brought to its ultimate goal Therefore, cult involves a relationship with God as
observed in the religious life of Israel. Andrew B. McGowan agrees with the idea that the cult had a
remarkable meaning for the Israelites. He sustains that ancient Christians were able to experience
worship during their liturgical moments of service because those moments communicated, shared
values and obedience to the Word of God. Liturgical moments will never replace the real meaning of a
genuine Christian Worship. That is the reason that leads McGowan to affirm that Christian worship is
not limited to liturgy but moral values. Another association between the book of Psalms and worship
can be found in particular Psalms that express praise,

Forensic DNAAnalysis
The applications of cell biology in the following four fields are given below:
1. Forensic
Forensic molecular biology involves the study of human and mitochondrial DNA (may include other
primates). Forensic molecular biology emphasizes molecular techniques such as DNA profiling and
repetitive DNA in the human genome; origin of genetic polymorphisms and how they are maintained;
continuous versus discrete allele systems; DNA isolation methods; Y chromosome haplogrouping and
analysis; RFLP analysis methods; PCR based typing systems; automated systems and DNA databases;
applications of mitochondrial DNA analysis; pedigree analysis; evidence preparation; and legal and
ethical considerations.
Forensic anthropology
Forensic anthropology is for identification and recovery of remains. In extreme cases where
conventional techniques are unable to determine the identity of the remains, anthropologists are
sometimes able to deduce certain characteristics based on the skeletal remains. Race, sex, age and
stature can often be determined by both measuring the remains and looking for structural clues in the

Jonbenet Ramsey Case Summary
JonBenet Ramsey was an interesting case, she was a child beauty queen that was murdered in her
house late at night in Colorado in 1996. Her father, John Ramsey, later found her body in the basement
along with a ridiculously long ransom note 8 hours after she was reported to be missing. Her autopsy
revealed that she was strangled and got hit in the head, which was estimated as her cause of death.
Back to the ransom note, it was sitting on the kitchen table in the Ramsey house and demanded a
whopping $118,000. The note was very detailed and the ransom itself demanded for $118,000, the
exact amount of money that John Ramsey received as a bonus that year, raising even more suspicions

Diversity In Medicine
In recent years, there has been a predicted shortage of physicians in the United States of America by
2025, numbering between 46,000 and 90,000 physicians for a growing United States population 1.
However, the more pressing issue will be an even bigger shortage of minority physicians. Minorities
are underrepresented in medical facilities as students and faculty. However, one minority especially
has been on the decline since 1978. African American males in the medical field have been on a steady
downward trend. In 1978, 1,410 African American males applied to medical school, compared to
2014, when 1,337 African American males applied to medical school 2. This downward trend is
concerning to many persons both inside and out of the medical field. A recent article published by the

Evaluating The Relationship Between Logical Advertising...
Evaluating the Relationship between Logical Advertising Appeals, Consumers Cognitive Information
Processing Styles, and Advertising Effectiveness
In the present competitive era, all company communicators seek to put some information in their
contacts or customers mind that affect their decision to purchase. Companies efforts to create attention
to their messages on the one hand and the increasing advertising messages, on the other hand, have
created a significant paradox in the field of advertising. In such circumstances, the advertiser may
spend many costs without reaching the target without the necessary ensuring of their ads effectiveness.
Therefore, the importance of this research is what all have believed today. The purpose of this research
is to evaluate and explain the relationship between the logical advertising appeals, consumer cognitive
information processing styles, and advertising effectiveness. The present study is applied in terms of
the purpose, and descriptive and correlational in terms of data collection. The required data were
collected using inventory and distributing it among 133 students. SPSS and LISREL software are used
to analyze the data. The results showed that advertising appeal has a direct and positive impact on the
logical process style and the effectiveness of advertising. The hypothesis of the effectiveness of logical
processing style on advertising effectiveness is rejected. Thus, advertising companies should conduct
their marketing

Analysis Of Al Lowe And Sierra On-Line
Al Lowe and Sierra On Line released Larry Laffer s first adventure in 1987. The premise of the Larry
games is one most of us guys can relate too: hook up with some smoking hot women. In 2013 an
enhanced version was released after a successful kickstarter campaign. The game has underwent quite
the graphical overhaul in this enhanced release, however most of the original concepts remain intact.
And that is a good thing, because Leisure Suit Larry is a hilarious game. Al Lowe has created a game
with a juvenile sense of humor that dares you keep a straight face. The, quite frankly, ridiculous
situations Larry stumbles into sticks with you after finishing the game. The puzzles are excellently
rooted in reality. Larry needs wine and condoms for

Irresponsible. Hard headed. Money Oriented. When you think of a man with these characteristics you
probably don t think of the best person in the world. How deep will the hole this man digs for himself
go? Will he ever achieve his goals? In A Raisin in the Sun, Lorraine Hansberry perfectly describes this
man in the character of Walter Lee Younger. Walter, a hard headed, money oriented man grows into an
understanding, family oriented man who wants to make the right decisions for his family. In the end it
was the love and support from his family and the loss of $6,500 that drives Walter to become a better

Ariel, thy charge exactly is performed; but there s more work. p.521 l.238 This portrays how Prospero
takes advantage of Ariel by giving her false hope of freedom. This also shows, that Prospero is
manipulative to get his way towards Ariel.Despite him being so harsh towards Ariel we learn further

Ecg Complex Waveform Patterns
.1 Explain the ECG complex waveform pattern (PQRST)
The ECG waveform allows us to monitor the electrical activity of the heart and how the mechanical
side of it is functioning. At the beginning of the ECG wave form is the P complex which is when the
depolarisation of the atrial cells and when the SA (Sino atrial) node induces an electric wave that
travels throughout the heart to cause the muscle cells to contract. After the P wave there is the PR
interval, it is a flat line as the ventricles in the heart are filling up with blood which roughly takes 0.2
seconds. In addition to this the PR interval is also when electrical activity is moving to the ventricles
by being conducted through the bundle of hiss then through the purkinje fibres which ... Show more

Premature beats that occur in the atria are called premature atrial contractions, or (PACs), premature
beats that occur in the ventricles are called premature ventricular contractions or (PVCs). Another type
of arrhythmia is tachycardia also known as fast heart rate, there are numerous of arrhythmias that fall
under this category such as atrial fibliration, which means that the electrical signal don t begin at the
SA node instead they begin near the atria or nearby the pulmonary veins. The electrical signal will
spread throughout the atria in a rapid disorganised way causing it to fibrillate hence tachycardia.
Another type of tachycardia arrhythmia is Wolff Parkinson White syndrome or (WPW) syndrome is a
condition in which the heart s electrical signals travel along an extra pathway from the atria to the
ventricles. This extra pathway disrupts the timing of the heart s electrical signals and can cause the
ventricles to beat very fast and can be life threatening. Another class of arrhythmia are
Bradyarrhythmias which cause a slow irregular heartbeat, as an example is sinus pause this condition

The Genealogy Of Morals By Friedrich Nietzsche Essay
PHIL 2030 Final Essay
Alex Vanden Heuvel, Professor Lay, Fall Semester 2016
Responding to Prompt 1
On the Genealogy of Morals by Friedrich Nietzsche is typically listed as one of the most important
philosophical works of the modern era. It is only modern, of course, to philosophical standards, being
a mere 129 years old. It is also one of the most controversial works of its time, having the dubious
distinction of being connected to Nazi ideology; it also has a not very subtle racist, sexist, and
Darwinist bent that is a reflection of Nietzsche himself. That being said, I think that it is also serially
misunderstood. Nietzsche directly mentions the role of interpretation in ethical discourse in the
Genealogy, and the interpretive element factors heavily into one s understanding of the polemic and
by extension, ethics philosophy as a whole. Throughout the book, Nietzsche uses interpretation as a
tool in itself to make a constructivist and existentialist argument about the history of ethics as whole.
His idea that man has used interpretation throughout history, and the interpretive elements in
Genealogy outside of the historical analysis, seem to say that almost all ethics are derived from
interpretation and therefore constructivist in nature, which is a heavily existentialist argument. For
example, the entirety of the first essay is based heavily upon the role of interpretation in the
development of the early ethical systems that Nietzsche argues are built on the

The Pros And Cons Of Flag Burning
On August 22, 1984, Gregory Lee Johnson was arrested for setting the U.S. flag on fire. His simple act
of protest led to the Supreme Court ruling that flag burning is protected under the First Amendment as
free speech, thus overturning his conviction. The flag symbolizes freedom, and part of that freedom is
being able to express dissatisfaction with the government. However, some see flag burning not merely
as a demonstration of opinion, but as an attack on national unity and American values. Should it be
illegal to burn the U.S. flag as an form of protest, or is this method within the rights of American
citizens? Johnson set the stars and stripes ablaze at the 1984 Republican National Convention after
participating in a protest march against ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Concerning the outcome of Texas v. Johnson, Justice William Brennan delivered the opinion of the
court: If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government may not
prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or
disagreeable. Flag burning may be offensive to loyal Americans, but it is not threatening enough by
itself to justify punishment. Brennan also stated that we do not consecrate the flag by punishing its
desecration, for in so doing we dilute the the freedom that this cherished emblem represents. In
Johnson s case, the Supreme Court valued constitutional principles rather than patriotic preferences.
The Supreme Court s stance on flag burning has remained the same since. Nevertheless, thirty years
after United States v. Eichman, there is still controversy over whether or not it should be legal. A
recent example of the present discussion on flag burning is a tweet made by President Donald Trump
in 2016: Nobody should be allowed to burn the American flag if they do, there must be consequences
perhaps loss of citizenship or year in jail! However, without a reason to change the law besides
personal opinion, the Supreme Court is not likely to reverse their decision and make flag burning

A postmodernist world demands equality. One of the hot topics in the news today is, Should the

heated debate on both sides. Over the years women have cried foul, starting the feminist movement in
which they demand equality between genders. Some feminists object to the biblical and traditional
name by which the Trinity is designated Father, Son, and Holy Spirit as implying a male deity. Some
churches have found the cry of the feminists plausible and have changed the premise of the Trinity to

God is three persons, each unique, wrapped in one. Today many in our society believe we can reinvent
the meaning of Scriptures to fit our way of thinking. Although the Bible does not present a carefully
nuanced philosophical discussion of the nature of truth, it does offer a unified perspective on the
matter of truth and falsity that flatly opposes the postmodernist orientation. It speaks authoritatively
not only on what things are true but on the nature of truth itself (Groothuis, 2000, p. 60). John 17:17
claims, Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth (King James Version). God s word is his
authoritative truth. In the Bible 2 Timothy 3:16 proclaims, All scripture is given by inspiration of God,
and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness . We cannot
take bits and pieces of God s word and try to fit them together to say what we want them to mean.
Galatians 3:28 sums up how we are looked at by God by stating, There is neither Jew nor Greek, there

After four weeks of dominance, The Force was officially been subdued and dethroned by the new

Ice Cube strikes again just as they did with their predecessor nearly two years ago to the day.
Unfortunately, not everything about Ride Along 2 s victory is good news as the new film failed to

Regardless, Ride Along 2 is far from a bust after being produced on $40 million. Holding strong in the

Essay about Elizabethan England
Bloody Painful: Crime and Punishment in Elizabethan England
This article s purpose is to express the danger of breaking the law in England. Most of the
punishments of our time are deemed cruel and unusual. The death penalty can no longer be enacted in
cases of theft or highway robbery. The following paragraphs will describe the various instruments of
punishment (torture) of the period.
One out of the ordinary punishment of this era is the drunkard s cloak. It is a punishment for public
drunkenness; the name of it is somewhat misleading. The flaw in the name comes from the fact that
the cloak is less a cloak and more a barrel. The drunk was forced to don a barrel and wander through
town while the villagers jeer at him. Holes were cut ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One more odd punishment worth mentioning is the ducking stool. Like the brank, it was a punishment
for women whose speech was considered too brash and brazen or too free. The ducking stool is a
wooden chair attached to a large lever system. The lever allows the chair to be raised or lowered
without the tipping of the chair, making it parallel to the ground at all times. The chair is then lowered
into the water, dunking the loose tongued woman under the water. Based on the level of the offense
and the cruelty of the deciding party the woman could be quot;ducked quot; any number of times, and
in some cases of extreme measures, the woman could drown from the time spent under water. Some of
the ducking stools were mobile and could be taken to the water s edge at the necessary time, while
others were fixed into place along the coast of the water as a grim reminder to the women of the town
of what free speaking could lead to.
One tool that is used as punishment was the amputation saw. Much more cruel than the axe, the saw is
slower and more painful than the relative quickness of the axe blade.
Villagers can be considered twisted individuals because of the crowds of people that gathered for the
public punishments and executions. People relished the public hangings, and the persons to be hanged
were often falsely accused of treason, which called

Education And The National Curriculum Framework
While teaching in state maintained schools, it is necessary that the National Curriculum Framework is
followed and children are taught the relevant skills and knowledge stated within each Programme of
Study. Therefore, there must be structure to the lessons where these skills and knowledge are to be
developed throughout the academic year. Previous teaching strategies required teachers to follow a
rigid plan where each individual lesson was to last one hour and be taught at a certain time on a
certain day (i.e. The Literacy Hour). These strategies are no longer necessary for teachers to follow
anymore; it is now possible for teachers to integrate lessons using a central theme, enabling them to
teach pupils in a more imaginative and original way, which will stimulate children s interest and
engagement whilst still developing the necessary skills and knowledge specified in the National
Curriculum (Sewell, 2015). This integrated curriculum allows children to pursue learning in a holistic
way without the restrictions often imposed by subject boundaries (Kelly, 2001). Subject integration
provides an opportunity for students to make natural and meaningful connections between and among
multiple content areas (Bogan, King McKenzie, Bantwini, 2012:1055). The human brain does not
separate knowledge into discrete partitions but creates a complex web of information that recognises

Forests Are Very Important For The Environment
Intro:
Forests are very important for the environment. The importance of forests cannot be underestimated.
We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Forests also
provide a habitat for a vast array of plants and animals, many of which are still undiscovered. They
also supply the oxygen we need to survive. Forests are a home to many endangered species but forests
are also endangered due to these species. For example the red deer eats just about any plant that they
can reach, therefore is a threat to forests and saplings. Any of the forest trees that thrive in mature
forests cannot survive on bare, exposed sites. In the forest, they are protected from wind, desiccation
(drying out) and the extremes of temperature. Forests start off as young trees (also known as saplings).
They then grow and develop into forests. Many physical and biological components influence forest
trees. Individual sapling and tree growth and vigor are determined by a variety of physiological and
external effects, such as age, available light, water, and nutrients. Since tree crowns are a component
of forest ecosystem structure, they directly affect the composition, processes, and vigor of the
understory plant and animal components of the forest. The height of the crown reflects the general
health of the tree therefore would need to be tall in order for the tree to survive. There are a number of
forest restoration groups who are helping to restore native forests

The nature of human desires and behaviors is a questionable and highly critiqued idea. Human desires
and behaviors are extremely important to the lives of humans, and other kinds of life. Desires and
behaviors are found in every living being, to a certain extent. Desires, along with behaviors, are a
crucial part to life itself. This aspect implemented in different forms of life plays a large role in critical

thought and decision making process. In the movie, An Education, the main character, Jenny, faces
many trials and tribulations that young adults encounter. She feels the pressures and expectations to
receive a quality education; however, she is not truly satisfied with that alone. As soon as an older,
wealthy man, who was full of adventure, entered her life, everything she had previously thought was
her destiny was now entirely questionable. As humans, we have a tendency to chase adventure and all
things that excite us. Socrates would describe this tendency as one of the principles humans are ruled
by. This need for fun and adventure is our inborn desire for pleasures (Plato, 1995, p. 17). This is one
of two principles that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Originally, the three main characters, Everett, Pete, and Delmar, are convicts in the chain gang. Right
from the beginning, it is evident that the three men are led by their dominant principle of inborn desire

treasure is extremely pleasurable and tempting to each individual man because they are all willing to

Voodoo In African American Culture
Voodoo is the modernized term for Haitian Vodou. It developed in Haiti during the slavery era when
African Caribbean slaves were working on plantations. It has roots in African American spirituality, in
Native American practices, and in Roman Catholicism. The central understanding in voodoo is that it
is more about what you do than it is what you believe. While it may be referred to as a religion, this is
actually more of a way of life for those who practice and participate in rituals. In doing these rituals,
the practitioners are engaging in worship of the Lwa which is Haitian Creole for a group of spirits.
These spirits act as an intermediary between the practitioners and God with whom they believe in a
plane that is too high for humans ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Hon gan began by addressing the spirits they serve in the form of prayer. Everyone has spirits that
they serve in this community. These spirits are usually adopted from your ancestors. For example, my
Hon gan explained to me that he adopted his spirits from his parents and he has other specific spirits
that walk with him which mean that are just with him. To continue with, in order for the ritual to
commence they needed to ask the spirits for authorization. Each one of the Hon gan s spirits were
called on and asked if he could proceed with the ritual. After they gave him that authorization, he
pulled out a powder. Powders in these rituals are generally used to amplify the ritual. In this case, the
powder was used so that the spirits can carry the message of the Hon gan. It is the powder that allows
the Hon gan to ask for what he needs. The priest blowed this powder into the air in four directions.
Then he took out a white jar candle. Traditionally white is a color which is used to signal spiritual
blessings. He marked this candle with a knife. This is done so the spirits may have passage. Then he lit
the candle and began to pray again. It is with this prayer, that the spirit gives the Hon gan passage. The
Hon gan entered this passage and lit a lamp. This part isn t something we can physically see. But then
he sprinkled powder onto the candle which he says was sprinkling powder onto the lamp. It was at this
point that the Hon gan took the candle and placed it in the middle of a large white bowl which he
placed at the center of the room. Then he took a white stick candle and placed it in the middle of a
small bowl filled with l huile mascreti which is a Haitian term for castor oil. He then instructed the
woman to keep adding oil as necessary and to keep both candles lit for as long as it takes. Which
basically meant for as long it took for her to finish the housing process. Then the woman was given

  • 2. Understanding the Cuban American Culture Miami Florida has the biggest Latin population than any other city in the United States. The majority of Latin s being of Cuban descent. Since the Cuban revolution there have been constant waves of immigrating Cubans to Miami. The result has been a Cuban American society that has created culture diversity within. In order to understand the Cuban American culture you must understand its ethnic origin, politics, and the varying times of immigration. CUBAS ETHNIC ROOTS AND ORIGINS The Cuban population consists of a variety of ethnic origins. In the early days before the Spanish inhabited Cuba the population was made up of 90% Taino speaking American Indians ho had displaced even earlier inhabitants. Shortly after came the Spanish conquest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Soviet economic and military support was crucial for Cuba. Soviet movements often aroused strong disagreement from the United States. In 1962 the Soviet Union installed nuclear missile bases in Cuba, the world stood at the brink of nuclear war as the U.S. government set up a naval blockade of the island and demanded they remove the missiles. This was known as The Cuban missile crisis. Cuban Soviet relations slowly deteriorated as Soviet political, economic, and social policies were liberalized in the late 80s. The Cuban government refused to modify its approach to social and economic policy. In 1991 the Soviet Union dissolved and withdrew its troops and its economic support. The already troubled Cuban economy suffered further from the loss of vital military and economic support. With severe shortages, unrest and dissatisfaction growing, Castro declared a special period in peacetime of food rationing and energy conservation. Shortages of food, fuel, and medical supplies were intensified by the ongoing U.S. trade embargo in Cuba. Aware of China s success with a more capitalistic limited market, Castro decided to experiment with capitalism. In 1993, he granted Cubans limited freedom to open small for profit businesses and allow foreign tourism, including U.S dollars. But economic reform bred demand for political reforms. In 2003, Castro jailed many members from the Varela Project. A group who petitioned for political reform, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Types Of Portfolio Management Under certain conditions, however, the possibility of unexpected concentration among some industries may exist, especially in the period of irrational exuberance and overestimated valuations. In the 1990s, for example, the upsurge in investing in technology companies resulted in a market bubble. The technology firms concentrated extremely high on the stock index. Accordingly, investors were putting at a high risk for the reason that these overvalued companies were given ownership which was out of proportion by the stocks bought by passive market funds. The aim of passive funds is not to outperform the market or the index, but to follow the tracks of them. As a result, the performance of the index will always be lower than the fund ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Standard deviations are an indicator of market volatility and represent risk. The lower standard deviations, the lower risks of portfolios. Even though the expected market return of active portfolio does not perform well, the risk of active portfolio is minimized. There is no short selling in the active portfolio and the the active portfolio is diversified through balanced investment of these ten stocks. Furthermore, the weights of 10 stocks in the active portfolio are more balanced than the passive portfolio. Therefore, the investors who pursue high expected market return should choose passive portfolio and risk averse investors should choose active portfolio. The investors should consider transaction fees and management fees of active portfolio and investors can insist on choosing active portfolio if they believe they can have higher return that offset these fees. In conclusion, the active investing is more flexible than passive investing because active investing does not have to follow a specific index like S P 500. According to Elton and Gruber (1997), the choice of the portfolio manager to choose for active portfolio is mainly based on his or her perception on the degree of market efficiency. There is no doubt that active investing is superior to passive portfolio when market mis priced the asset. But active ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Self Assessment I was able to take three assessments that were able to tell me about my interests, skills, possible jobs and education degrees that I could potentially pursue. The names of the three assessments are the: Strong Interest Inventory, Myers Briggs Type Indicator and StrenghtsQuest. I m going to take a look at my results for each assessment and compare the similarities as well as the contrast. The highest themes that were measured for me in the Strong Interest Inventory were the: Enterprising, Conventional and Artistic. It s broken down into four categories which are Interests, work activities, potential skills and values. For Enterprising, I felt that all four categories sum up me. The assessment picked up on my leadership quality, ability to motivate and direct others. The conventional theme did pick up that I have values of accuracy, stability, efficiency and paying attention to details. It also said that I m interested in organization and setting up procedures which is very true. That s thing at my current job that bothers me the most. The one thing I didn t agree with is that I m in record keeping and I m not the best at that. The Artistic theme was spot on as far as my interests and values. My interests were self expression, art appreciation, communication and culture. The values were beauty, originality, independence and imagination. Most plants recreated the way our forefathers would have done it, through spores that made hereditarily indistinguishable clones of their folks. Yet, angiosperms hit upon another method for spreading their qualities that gave them a transformative favorable position. They delivered female cells that remained on the plant and male cells in dust that could be spread to treat neighboring plants. In the meantime, the angiosperms made themselves appealing to bugs, flying creatures, and honey bees, which brought about these animals conveying dust, starting with one plant then onto the next, making an unfathomable blast of assorted variety. • 6. The Environment Of Aquatic Habitats Aquatic habitats face many challenges that aren t found in terrestrial environments. Such as the water density; water is much denser then air (800 times denser). The buoyancy of organisms tends to be higher when they are in the water then in the air because of this. However some animals are denser then the water and need to be aided to stay afloat. For example, some fish have a swim bladder that they can adjust their buoyancy accordingly to be able to stay afloat. The greater density of water also poses another challenge for the organisms living in it, moving through the water is a lot harder and it creates a lot more drag on the animal as it moves through it. Therefore organisms who live in, or spend a lot of time in an aquatic habitat will survive better if they have a more streamlined, dynamic shape so that they can swim faster and with more ease, using up less energy. Water is much less compressible the air, it s virtually impossible. For this reason it is much harder for an organism to move through water then it is through the air. The air is compressed only slightly by their body as they move through it so the air slips over them almost effortlessly as they pass through it. Whereas an organism moves through water it has to completely displace the water to move through it which creates a lot of drag due to the turbulence of this. Because of this, not only is moving through air a lot easier and takes a lot less effort then moving through water but it is also a lot ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In Biography of Stephen Shewan , Jubal Press claims he has the unique ability to join atonal technique with romanticism, resulting in music that is much more than mere mental manipulation of pitches. It is highly evocative and expressive. Numerous critics believe Shewan shows a well developed understanding of choral voice and properly uses a comfortable command of both lyrical expression and varied romantic to modern harmonization. Stephen Shewan is a considerable composer who deserves a wide audience, and that is why his music doesn t fall under one category (Jubal Press). The name Psalms originates from the Hebrew language which means praises . However, Christian worship is not limited to singing songs of praise. Biblical worship encompasses our heart s desire, our love for God. This kind of worship has been a part of every great spiritual awakening in history. Historically, the book of Psalms covers the time of Moses until the end of the exile of Israel. Although scholars consider the titles of the Psalms difficult to comprehend, they assume that the title of each Psalm explains the historical context of the biblical passage. Scholars assume that the psalms have been used in the cult of the second temple as a liturgical practice. According to Sigmund Mowinckel, in the past, the book of Psalms was the main hymnbook of Israel. Mowinckel affirms that the title of the book of Psalms means cultic songs of Praise and the term cultic involves worship, doctrine, and behavior. In other words, cult may be defined as the socially established and regulated holy acts and words in which the encounter and communion of the Deity with the congregation is established, developed, and brought to its ultimate goal Therefore, cult involves a relationship with God as observed in the religious life of Israel. Andrew B. McGowan agrees with the idea that the cult had a remarkable meaning for the Israelites. He sustains that ancient Christians were able to experience worship during their liturgical moments of service because those moments communicated, shared values and obedience to the Word of God. Liturgical moments will never replace the real meaning of a genuine Christian Worship. That is the reason that leads McGowan to affirm that Christian worship is not limited to liturgy but moral values. After the P wave there is the PR interval, it is a flat line as the ventricles in the heart are filling up with blood which roughly takes 0.2 seconds. • 27. The Genealogy Of Morals By Friedrich Nietzsche Essay PHIL 2030 Final Essay Alex Vanden Heuvel, Professor Lay, Fall Semester 2016 Responding to Prompt 1 On the Genealogy of Morals by Friedrich Nietzsche is typically listed as one of the most important philosophical works of the modern era. It is only modern, of course, to philosophical standards, being a mere 129 years old. It is also one of the most controversial works of its time, having the dubious distinction of being connected to Nazi ideology; it also has a not very subtle racist, sexist, and Darwinist bent that is a reflection of Nietzsche himself. That being said, I think that it is also serially misunderstood. Nietzsche directly mentions the role of interpretation in ethical discourse in the Genealogy, and the interpretive element factors heavily into one s understanding of the polemic and by extension, ethics philosophy as a whole. Throughout the book, Nietzsche uses interpretation as a tool in itself to make a constructivist and existentialist argument about the history of ethics as whole. His idea that man has used interpretation throughout history, and the interpretive elements in Genealogy outside of the historical analysis, seem to say that almost all ethics are derived from interpretation and therefore constructivist in nature, which is a heavily existentialist argument. For example, the entirety of the first essay is based heavily upon the role of interpretation in the development of the early ethical systems that Nietzsche argues are built on the ... The flag symbolizes freedom, and part of that freedom is being able to express dissatisfaction with the government. Johnson, Justice William Brennan delivered the opinion of the court: If there is a bedrock principle underlying the First Amendment, it is that government may not prohibit the expression of an idea simply because society finds the idea itself offensive or disagreeable. Brennan also stated that we do not consecrate the flag by punishing its desecration, for in so doing we dilute the the freedom that this cherished emblem represents. In Johnson s case, the Supreme Court valued constitutional principles rather than patriotic preferences. The Supreme Court s stance on flag burning has remained the same since. Nevertheless, thirty years after United States v. Eichman, there is still controversy over whether or not it should be legal. Of course poor reviews didn t help the comedy s cause, either as it currently maintains a wretched score of 14% at RottenTomatoes. Regardless, Ride Along 2 is far from a bust after being produced on $40 million. Holding strong in the second position is the new Golden Globe winner for Best Drama, The Revenant which grabbed a healthy $29.5 million. The film, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, gave Star Wars a run for its money last weekend, through coming up just short. For eight weeks, I worked five days a week for an average of thirty hours. There are numerous Merrill Lynch offices in the Baltimore and Washington D.C. area. Offices in Annapolis and Baltimore are greater in numbers and advisors. The Towson region only has about fifteen advisors and four client assistants. However, almost all of those advisors started their careers in Baltimore. The Towson office was for more established advisors who already have a distinguished client list. The bullish support line determines when there it is the right time to sell your stocks. It is very similar to work I had done in the past weeks with the point and figure analysis. To begin this work, I took a list of clients that had recently bought new shares of stock. It s true that the majority of the clients deal strictly with mutual funds or annuities, but there were numerous cases where clients decide to buy stocks. Most of the punishments of our time are deemed cruel and unusual. The death penalty can no longer be enacted in cases of theft or highway robbery. The following paragraphs will describe the various instruments of punishment (torture) of the period. One out of the ordinary punishment of this era is the drunkard s cloak. It is a punishment for public drunkenness; the name of it is somewhat misleading. The flaw in the name comes from the fact that the cloak is less a cloak and more a barrel. One more odd punishment worth mentioning is the ducking stool. Like the brank, it was a punishment for women whose speech was considered too brash and brazen or too free. The ducking stool is a wooden chair attached to a large lever system. The lever allows the chair to be raised or lowered without the tipping of the chair, making it parallel to the ground at all times. The chair is then lowered into the water, dunking the loose tongued woman under the water. Based on the level of the offense and the cruelty of the deciding party the woman could be quot;ducked quot; any number of times, and in some cases of extreme measures, the woman could drown from the time spent under water. Some of the ducking stools were mobile and could be taken to the water s edge at the necessary time, while others were fixed into place along the coast of the water as a grim reminder to the women of the town of what free speaking could lead to. One tool that is used as punishment was the amputation saw. Much more cruel than the axe, the saw is slower and more painful than the relative quickness of the axe blade. • 37. Education And The National Curriculum Framework While teaching in state maintained schools, it is necessary that the National Curriculum Framework is followed and children are taught the relevant skills and knowledge stated within each Programme of Study. Therefore, there must be structure to the lessons where these skills and knowledge are to be developed throughout the academic year. Previous teaching strategies required teachers to follow a rigid plan where each individual lesson was to last one hour and be taught at a certain time on a certain day (i.e. The Literacy Hour). These strategies are no longer necessary for teachers to follow anymore; it is now possible for teachers to integrate lessons using a central theme, enabling them to teach pupils in a more imaginative and original way, which will stimulate children s interest and engagement whilst still developing the necessary skills and knowledge specified in the National Curriculum (Sewell, 2015). This integrated curriculum allows children to pursue learning in a holistic way without the restrictions often imposed by subject boundaries (Kelly, 2001). Subject integration provides an opportunity for students to make natural and meaningful connections between and among multiple content areas (Bogan, King McKenzie, Bantwini, 2012:1055). • 40. Forests Are Very Important For The Environment Intro: Forests are very important for the environment. The importance of forests cannot be underestimated. We depend on forests for our survival, from the air we breathe to the wood we use. Forests also provide a habitat for a vast array of plants and animals, many of which are still undiscovered. They also supply the oxygen we need to survive. Forests are a home to many endangered species but forests are also endangered due to these species. For example the red deer eats just about any plant that they can reach, therefore is a threat to forests and saplings. Any of the forest trees that thrive in mature forests cannot survive on bare, exposed sites. In the forest, they are protected from wind, desiccation (drying out) and the extremes of temperature. Forests start off as young trees (also known as saplings). They then grow and develop into forests. Many physical and biological components influence forest trees. Individual sapling and tree growth and vigor are determined by a variety of physiological and external effects, such as age, available light, water, and nutrients. Since tree crowns are a component of forest ecosystem structure, they directly affect the composition, processes, and vigor of the understory plant and animal components of the forest. The height of the crown reflects the general health of the tree therefore would need to be tall in order for the tree to survive. There are a number of forest restoration groups who are helping to restore native forests ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Comparing Phaedrus, An Education, And The Descent Of Man The nature of human desires and behaviors is a questionable and highly critiqued idea. Human desires and behaviors are extremely important to the lives of humans, and other kinds of life. Desires and behaviors are found in every living being, to a certain extent. Desires, along with behaviors, are a crucial part to life itself. This aspect implemented in different forms of life plays a large role in critical thinking and decision making. Phaedrus, An Education, O Brother, Where Art Thou, Gulliver s Travels, and The Descent of Man explore and exemplify different ways desire and behavior affect the thought and decision making process. In the movie, An Education, the main character, Jenny, faces many trials and tribulations that young adults encounter. She feels the pressures and expectations to receive a quality education; however, she is not truly satisfied with that alone. As soon as an older, wealthy man, who was full of adventure, entered her life, everything she had previously thought was her destiny was now entirely questionable. As humans, we have a tendency to chase adventure and all things that excite us. Socrates would describe this tendency as one of the principles humans are ruled by. This need for fun and adventure is our inborn desire for pleasures (Plato, 1995, p. 17). This is one of two principles that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 42. Voodoo In African American Culture Voodoo is the modernized term for Haitian Vodou. It developed in Haiti during the slavery era when African Caribbean slaves were working on plantations. It has roots in African American spirituality, in Native American practices, and in Roman Catholicism. The central understanding in voodoo is that it is more about what you do than it is what you believe. While it may be referred to as a religion, this is actually more of a way of life for those who practice and participate in rituals. In doing these rituals, the practitioners are engaging in worship of the Lwa which is Haitian Creole for a group of spirits. The Hon gan began by addressing the spirits they serve in the form of prayer. Everyone has spirits that they serve in this community. These spirits are usually adopted from your ancestors. For example, my Hon gan explained to me that he adopted his spirits from his parents and he has other specific spirits that walk with him which mean that are just with him. To continue with, in order for the ritual to commence they needed to ask the spirits for authorization. Each one of the Hon gan s spirits were called on and asked if he could proceed with the ritual. After they gave him that authorization, he pulled out a powder. Powders in these rituals are generally used to amplify the ritual. In this case, the powder was used so that the spirits can carry the message of the Hon gan. It is the powder that allows the Hon gan to ask for what he needs. The priest blowed this powder into the air in four directions. Then he took out a white jar candle. Traditionally white is a color which is used to signal spiritual blessings. He marked this candle with a knife. This is done so the spirits may have passage. Then he lit the candle and began to pray again. It is with this prayer, that the spirit gives the Hon gan passage. The Hon gan entered this passage and lit a lamp. This part isn t something we can physically see. But then he sprinkled powder onto the candle which he says was sprinkling powder onto the lamp. It was at this point that the Hon gan took the candle and placed it in the middle of a large white bowl which he placed at the center of the room. Then he took a white stick candle and placed it in the middle of a small bowl filled with l huile mascreti which is a Haitian term for castor oil.
