Tim Lincecum Case Study
Former Cy Young winner Tim Lincecum wants to come back to baseball, and the Cincinnati
Reds should pay attention. Lincecum did not pitch at all in 2017 and had a 9.16 ERA in 38.1
innings in 2016. A series of injuries sidelined this former ace into what many considered his
retirement. He descended into cryptid like status (https://nypost.com/2017/09/26/no one seems to

The Importance of Securing Sensitive Items Essay example
Sensitive items are anything that is considered classified or a mission essential item. These
items can include protective gear, maps, or a piece of paper designating patrol routes. The
importance of securing sensitive items comes down to maintaining accountability for operation
security, mission success and a soldiers over all readiness. The habits of exercising security and
accountability of a soldiers items allow the soldier and their team to operate to the highest
standards or have items be accessed by an opposing adversary creating loss of overall mission

and information obtained from being unsecured can cause adverse effects impacting mission

personal expense. Taking the time to either store items in a secure location such as a locker or
independent room that is secured and solely accessed by the owner of the stored items. Placing
care of items to trusted members of your unit is also considered safeguarding items of value but
trust should not always be put into everyone with in a unit for storage. In the case of Aldrich Ames

Five Principles Of Tragedy
Discuss the principles of tragedy as defined in Aristotle s Poetics. Illustrate these principles by
examining Sophocles play Oedipus the King, in order to establish the link between the theory and
practise of tragedy. Analyse the genre of tragedy as one that reveals dilemma and paradox.
The advent of modern theater as we know it today began with the worship of Dionysus: the god of
the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, fertility, theater and religious ecstasy in
Greek mythology and a weeklong competition that welcomed the Spring in ancient Greece. Many
great playwrights were introduced to the World by the means of this weeklong competition
including Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Sophocles is perhaps one of the pioneers of the
genre of tragedy and his plays Oedipus Rex, Antigone and Oedipus at Colonus have for centuries
inspired contemporary playwrights and theater artists to venture deeper into the understanding of
the complex idea of the individual versus fate. In this essay I intend to examine Aristotle s Poetics
and the five principles ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Oedipus, Sophocles creates a character who s not only the king but, also the solver of the
Sphinx s riddle and hence, can be recognised as a man portrayed better than he would ve been in
real life: a man with an intricately defined moral compass and elevated social stature. Further
examples of Oedipus as an ideal tragic hero can be derived out of the fact that he comes from a
noble and prosperous background as he s the biological son of the Laius, king of Thebes and the
adopted son of Polybus, the king of Corinth. He also is greatly revered in the society and
respected as a very adept and benevolent king which is evident from the Priest s reference to him
as the first of men. Oedipus is also greatly worried by the Pestilence that haunts the city of Thebes
and says the following in that

Analysis Of When Morning Comes By Arushi Raina
Over the past five weeks, my group and I read the novel, When Morning Comes written by Arushi
Raina. This story takes place in 1976 during the Soweto Uprising in South Africa; a student lead
protest against the Baas Laws, which required subjects to be taught in Afrikaans. The protagonists:
Jack, Zanele, Meena, and Thabo start out as strangers with different racial identities, but through a
series of chance meetings, each of their lives change significantly. During our Booktalk meetings, I
was able to greater discuss some of the challenges that the protagonists faced, gain knowledge and
insight about the novelfrom my peers, compare and contrast the themes in When Morning Comes
with those in other books, and connect the novel to concepts learned in class. Before reading When
Morning Comes, I hoped that the book would offer me some insight into how much our education
system has progressed and improved, but it made me think about so much more than that. In When
Morning Comes, each protagonist faces their own set of challenges. Even though each of the
characters have very different identities, there are also many similarities between them. Zanele and
Jack are polar opposites in terms of racial identityand social class, but what they have in common
is their desire for love. Compared to the other characters in the novel, Jack is very privileged; he
is white, his family has a lot of money, he has a girlfriend and lots of friends, and is heading to
England to attend University of

ICT In Open And Distance Education
Abstract Information and Communication Technology (ICT) is playing a primordial role in Open
and Distance Learning (ODL) system to meet the expectations and requirements of the students to
receive and send information with respect to their academic pursuits. ICT in Open and Distance
Learning is like a beacon light that lights up the path of the students and allows them to navigate
through seamless ease with regard to their academic aspirations. It elevates the student centric
learningexperience to such a level that more often than not it not only provides clientele satisfaction
but also its delight. ICT, ever since it has been employed in Distance Education, has been providing
various technologies and tools to cater to the requirements of a learner at various stages of learning
cycle like admission stage, the learning stage, the evaluation stage and finally the certification stage
as a service. Now some open universities are providing academic services in the form of online
course material, interactive classes and online teaching and learning facilities to the student

Movie Analysis of Jaws .
Released in 1975, Jaws was probably one of the best adventure, action, and suspense films of that
era. Directed by Steven Spielberg with the following staring main cast members Roy Scheider as
Martin Bordy (chief police officer), Richard Dreyfuss as Matt Hooper (marine biologist), Robert
Shaw as Quint (local fisherman), Murray Hamilton as Larry Vaughan (town mayor). Jawsthe
movie, is not like any other any other fish story. The film is about a gigantic 26 foot shark that
has an appetite for people; how horrifying is that? The unusual story takes place on the seasides
of Amity Island. When Chief Brody uncovers the partial body of a teenage girl with shark like

His acts of heroism are acted out several times throughout the film. Of course, he also had his boat
captain and a marine biologist along for the wild ride. This plays out to be a team like environment,
in which they contributed their different individual strengths towards the common goal; hunting
down the massive man eating shark.
This film also used countless props; however, there is truly only one that needs to be discussed,
and goes by the name of Jaws. This massive great white shark was a 26 foot mechanical beast.
This enormous steel gutted fish was connected to a crane arm which allowed the shark to tread
just underneath the surface of the water at a rapid rate. This gives the realistic feel of the amount
of power this shark has; being able to swim at such rates of speed. This adds to the fright element
of movie because we all know that big animals can be intimidating. Animals that are big and fast
are even scarier. Animals that are big, fast, and hungry, are a force to be reckoned with.
The film, Jaws, uses a variety of different photographic techniques. Panning was used quite often in
this movie to remind the viewer that they were a long distance from the shoreline. Additionally,
plenty of filming was done underwater. This allowed the audience to get a realistic feel for the
surrounding environment. The brilliant underwater imagery resulted with help from the naturally
dark and chilling emptiness of the foreign ocean world. A notable climatic shot is

Comparison Between Raphael And Leonardo Da Vinci s Last...
Art is a conversation between the artist and the audience, and through which the artwork is the
medium between both. The artist, as the author of the piece, generates the message, plans the piece,
and executes it to the best of his abilities. The audience, on their part, uses past experiences and
knowledge of the artist and artwork to interpret the work,(which interestedly can lead to multiple
conclusions of the work that are far distant from the artist s original understanding). Then there is
the artwork itself: it is the passive participant whose influences beyond that of the artist and the
audienceis time. Throughout history, this has been the case Raphael and his Galatea, and Leonardo
da Vinciand his Last Supper but in more recent times,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is done through the process by which he created the piece: he generated the dimensions of each
block according to a mathematical premise and then he sent the plan to a factory to have the blocks
fabricated. Through this process he had ten identical blocks made. Thus, the piece maintains only a
distant connection to the artist who created it, and resembles that of the mass production in which
the industrial designer creates a general plan that the factory workers then replicate repeatedly. This
elimination of the artist s involvement is also illustrated in the title of the piece , Untitled : through
the intentional act of not giving the piece a name, Judd therefore refuses to impose any
preconstructed view on the piece. By eliminating himself from the conversation as much as
possible, Judd focuses the attention toward the interaction between the piece and the audience, and
particularly the piece. Of course, it is questionable whether the artist truly removed himself, and his
views, from the work. Establishing now that no exterior influences beyond the process of art are
affecting the piece, I now consider the interior influences of the piece: that is, the elements of art and

Essay about Antony and Cleopatra and The Aeneid
There are two reasons why The Aeneid is associated with the Shakespearean play Antony and
Cleopatra. First, The Aeneid was written by a Roman named Virgil who, among many other
reasons, wrote it as a tribute for Augustus Caesar, the leader of the Roman Empire. Augustus
Caesar was formally named Octavian and is a character in Shakespeare s play. Secondly, both The
Aeneid and Antony and Cleopatra share a common theme of a patriotic, heroic man having to
choose between duty to his country and the passionate love of a beautiful, foreign and strong
queen. In The Aeneid, the lovers are Aeneas and Dido and Antony and Cleopatra are the lovers in
Shakespeare s play.

The first reason why The Aeneid is associated with Antony and Cleopatra is because a character in
Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian, later known as Augustus, is the leader of the Roman Empire
during the time when Virgil wrote The Aeneid and for whom it was written. Historically, before
Augustus became emperor, internal strife plagued the Roman government. During Virgil s youth,
the First Triumvirate which included Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus governed the Roman
Empire. Crassus was killed around 53 B.C.E., and Caesar initiated civil war against Pompey. After
defeating Pompey, Caesar reigned alone until the Ides of March in 44 B.C., when Brutus and
Cassius, two senators, assassinated him. Civil war erupted between the assassins and the Second
Triumvirate which included Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus. By 36 B.C.E., only Octavian and
Antony remained, and they began warring against each other. At the Battle of Actium in 31 B.C.,
Octavian defeated Antony and his ally Cleopatra of Egypt, finally consolidating power in himself
alone (Sparknotes). Shakespeare s play follows the events of the Second Triumvirate and ends when
Octavian defeats Antony and becomes the sole ruler. (Although Shakespeare uses historical names
and events, the minute details and specific conversations between the characters in the play are
fictitious.) Four years after the events included in Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian assumed the title
Augustus. Virgil

The Growth Of The Human Population
The indefinite growth of the human population, has monumental impacts on the natural
environment, not only in the UK, but around the globe. Architecturally, the entire process of
designing and constructing a building, both domestic and not, can lead to the rapid exhaustion of
natural resources across the planet. Buildingwith environmental design strategies in mind not only
combats the impact we as humans have on the natural environment, but also has considerable
economic benefits, due to lower running costs of buildings and advanced occupant productivity.
There are also many social benefits, such as improved air quality which resultantly leads too
enhanced health of a buildings occupants.
The first section of my report touches two case study buildings that considers such matters in an
intimate way, the Dalby Forest Visitor Centre in Yorkshire, and the Heels Building, National Trust
Headquarters, located in Swindon. The second section of the report focuses on a personal

were a few that were essential. First he said, if you re looking into this field it is important that
you re even tempered with people and be willing to let things slide without getting offended. Next
he said its important to have a sense of humor because you will be put into stressful situations
everyday and its important you have a good laugh every now and then. The final quality he said
was the most important of them all; common sense. Officer Lewis said that there is a lot of training

Objectives And Objectives Of Strategic Management
Strategic Management is a substantial wing of the management system of an organisation or
company whereby a set of managerial decision and action helps to determine the long run
performance and major goals of the organisation or company. Generally, top level management of
an organisation is responsible for the initiation and implementation of such decisions and actions
based on the available resources and welcoming environment. The strategies involve the formulation
and setting of directions, aims and objectives; improving organisational performance; collaborating
and executing changes; developing and training the employees etc. It also stresses on the
monitoring and evaluation of internal strengths and weaknesses and identifying external
opportunities (Adair 2009).
On the other hand, leadership is a process whereby a person works through a chain of frequentative
action by forming a vision, crafting a set of goals and objectives, setting directions and selecting
employees, performing required tasks as long as needed until the goals and objectives are
achieved. In order to be a good leader, an individual needs to be diligent, vigilant and resilient in
all aspects of policy and strategy making for any specific situation arising with the organization
(Atreya 2013).
According to Atreya (2013) Strategic management is about setting vision, mission, goals and
objectives for achieving excellence and the strategic leadership is to ensure that the results are being
achieved.

Batman As Superheros
For many, a superhero must have certain qualities. People want a superhero that is loyal, selfless,
smart and strong. These characteristics are what many superheroes in comic books have; and in the
early twentieth century, many teen boys were turning to for guidance. Batman was created for the
kids who did not have it very easy. Batmansaw both of his parents murdered and became a
vigilante to fight off crime. Bruce Wayne changes into Batman for the better and portrays the
better qualities of a hero as opposed to Dr. Jekyll in the book, The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and
Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. Dr. Jekyll changes himself from a good man to an evil man.
Much like many other superheroes, Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne. Some heroes may
not have an alter ego like mythological heroes. Heroes are able to have all different sorts of
characteristics; it just depends on their story. In The Picture of Dorian Gray, Oscar Wilde, Dorian
Gray has used his portrait to be eternally young and learns to see evil as beautiful (150). Unlike
Dorian, Batman is everything but selfish and risks everything for the better of man kind. Batman
will always be the superherothat kids can look up to and know is going to give everything he has
to better this world. When it comes to super human powers, that is where Batman lacks. He has no
powers to his human self that make him who he is. Batman is the alter ego of Bruce Wayne who is
a very intelligent businessman of Gotham City, this

Professional Writing in Computer Science Essay
A Computer Software Engineer develops software systems to be used by their clients, such as a

This review and evolution process is repeated as many times as needed, until the final Formal Spec
is produced, or the SRS. Then programming can begin. The process of writing a requirements
specification usually requires frequent communications between the developer and the client,
keeping the structure of the specification clear and the statements or expressions used readable is
therefore crucial (Lui et al.). Consequences and Time Spent The reason that a SRS is needed
should be rather obvious; if the requirements aren t written down, how do the software engineers
know what to program, and how does the client know what to expect? (Berezin) However, the
SRS is often times skipped, or written at a very high level, lacking enough detail. Taking the user
requirements and writing them into specifications is considered to be one of the most difficult
steps in software development, and therefore engineers frequently attempt to bypass this step. It is
also very time consuming are the engineers wasting their time writing the SRS when they should

Jean M. TwengeHave Smartphones Destroyed A Generation
The invention of the smartphone has drastically changed every part of a teenager s life, from
their social life to their mental health. These shifts have hurt young people in every part of the
nation and in every family dynamic. From the decline of social interaction with their peers, to
an increase of mental illnesses such as depression, the use of cell phones have lead to the
correlation between these epidemics. There are some positives to this situation; teens nowadays
are safer and don t go out as much, and more teens are having less sex, thus leading to lower teen
pregnancy rates. In the article, Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation, Jean M. Twenge
effectively argues that smartphones have had a negative impact on teen s social lives by making
them more prone to being antisocial; however, she is incorrect when she argues that smartphones
have a negative impact on mental health and independency because correlation does not equal
causation. The fact that teens of this generation are being more antisocial than in the past is
vividly shown throughout society. This claim is mainly stated while Twenge is talking to a 13
year old girl named Athena. Much like any other average American teenage girl, Athena enjoys
pastimes such as watching Netflix, going to the mall with friends, browsing the internet, and
much more. Although these all sound like fun things to do, they all have one thing in common:
teens are not spending quality time with anyone while doing these activities. Now, going to the
mall does require you being with someone face to face, but the majority of the time that teens
spend with each other is on their phone. They re usually on some social media app, capturing
the entire event of being together, or they re talking to other people that are not there instead of
speaking to people face to face. As Athena states, I think we like our phones more than we like
actual people (pg.2). This rings true to prove the fact that to some teens, there is no need to
wonder outside of their comfortable beds to socialize; their friends are just one quick text,
Snapchat, or phone call away. The more we stay in our bed on our phones, the more we will want
to spend time alone than with other people, which can

My personal model is growing and changing as I am learning more and developing as a social
worker. At this point, my personal model pulls ideas from cognitive behavioral therapy and reality
therapy. Though my model is still evolving, I feel as though the basis of my thoughts and beliefs
are sound. The goal of cognitive behavioral therapyis to have a structured, short term, present
oriented psychotherapyfor depression, directed toward solving current problems and modifying
dysfunctional thinking and behavior (Beck, 1995, p. 1). It has been shown successful in not only
treating depression, but also a wide range of psychiatric disorders in various client populations.
Cognitive behavioral therapy is based on the cognitive model, which assumes that dysfunctional
thinking is common to psychological disturbances. Realistic modifications of thinking can result in
an overall improvement of mood and behaviors. These improvements ultimately come from the
modification of the patient s fundamental dysfunctional beliefs (Beck, 1995). Beck (1995) writes
how cognitive therapy is based on the cognitive model. This is how an individual s thoughts,
emotions, and behaviors play into their interpretation of events. The way people emotionally react
and respond to a situation is based on how they interpret a situation rather than the situation itself.
The initial reaction thoughts are called automatic thoughts. These thoughts stem from beliefs. They
are situation specific and are considered

The Moscow Theatre Hostage Crisis
The coverage of Moscow theatre hostage crisis by the Russian media demonstrated how media
coverage of terrorism can lead to government censorship and manipulation of the media. In the case
of the Moscow theatre crisis, this censorship and manipulation included the shutdown of various
independent media outlets, the creation of legislature that further diminished the possibility for a
free and independent press in Russia, and the outright travel embargoes for journalists. These
restrictions, created during and immediately following the hostage crisis, not only changed the
state of the media in Russia to a dictatorship of the law , but also changed the perception of Russia
s control of the press around the world as well.
The Moscow theatre hostage crisis, also known as the 2002 Nord Ost siege was the takeover of
the Dubrovka Theatre by 40 to 50 Chechens on the evening of the 23rd of October. The attackers
were led by Movsar Barayev, a 23 year old Chechen who claimed allegiance to the Islamist militant
separatist movement in Chechnya, a republic situated in the southernmost part of Eastern Europe.
Barayev s and his followers motivation for the attacks laid in their demands for the withdrawal of
Russian forces from Chechnya and an end to the Second Chechen War. The three day long hostage
crisis involved 850 hostages and ended with the death of at least 170 people, after the Russian
Special Forces unit pumped an undisclosed chemical gas into the theatre s ventilation system.

Expansion And Sectionalism Throughout American History
The expansion and sectionalism throughout American history, the colonial resistance to the
proclamation line had been one of unifying factors that had committed many English colonists to
revolution and helped spread an emerging nationalism. The exciting textbook American Nation,
states that, American independence and control of a wide and rich domain were the most obvious
results of the Revolution. The revolution provided access to vast western lands and for many years
western expansion would serve as an element that bound the various sections together. Yet, as the
decades rolled on and the United Statesadded even more land in its march to the Pacific,
expansionism led to sectionalism which resulted in the Union being torn apart.
Throughout the American history, we have seen Manifest Destiny at work, and how it has
helped grow our nation. The idea of Manifest Destiny helped in creating revolutions that would
help them find freedom in the U.S., but it also had some negative effects. Most believe that
Manifest Destiny began in the 1840 s, when John L.O Sullivan coined the term Manifest Destiny
in 1845, but if we look closer we can see that even all the way back to the first settlers we can see
that Manifest Destiny was already at work as in, the Massachusetts Bay Colony. The term is
defined and recognized as, the Americans belief that it was their destiny given to them by God, to
expand into the Western territories The whole continent was to be theirs. 1 We

The Health Care Industry Of The United States
One of the biggest industries in the United States is health care industry, which accounts for over
17.5 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country. This big representation of the

In general, healthcare spending grew 1.2 percent faster than the overall nation s economy. Some
of the reasons for the increase in health care spending are the fast growth of private insurance,
Medicaid expansion, and the rapid increase of prescription drugs cost. In order to understand how
each of the mentioned reasons impact the overall healthcare expenditure, it s important to discuss
one by one; however, this paper focuses only on financial issues in prescription drugs (Martin,
Hartman, Benson, Catlin, 2015). Today, the globe is equipped with high technology, medical

also improved the quality of life. Illness can be achieved efficiently with medications by reducing
unnecessary hospitalization or nursing care costs. Therefore, prescription drugs are crucial
elements of primary health care to highly sophisticated, specialized care. Pharmaceutical
manufacturers have developed newer, safe, and better drugs each year, however, many, if not all,
Americans are struggling with how to afford their prescription drugs. Especially, the elderly

Analysis Of Sal Castro And Maria Tula s Hear My Testimony
Blowout!, by Sal Castro and Maria Tula s Hear my Testimony are both testimonios, meaning that
they are told in the first person narrative. They provide an accurate representation of the attitude
and ideology of not only their own, but others at that time period as well. In both books, the
testimonio helped tell a fuller story because it provided a deeper first hand view of socially
significant scenes and demonstrated, through their own voice, first hand how characters identities
were developed. These individuals were transformed because they faced realizations of larger
political pictures. Cesar Chavez was a civil rights activist who organized the earliest Chicano

He explains an encounter where a teacher told him, Sit in the encounter until you learn English
(Garcia Castro, Blowout! pg32). This quote shows that even in the first grade Castro realized
that racism was alive and present, and it was wrong. He believed that it was wrong for the school
to be treating him a certain way (badly), simply because of his culture. Through the testimonio,
these early encounters show us how Castro s identity and core values were shaped. Furthermore,
Castro s testimonio allows him to tell a fuller story of social activism. For example, Castro vividly
recalls the Watts Riot that took place in Los Angeles. The Watts Riot was the result of the
community reacting to allegations of police brutality against an African American motorcyclist.
Castros explains, If you lived or worked anywhere near Watts, located south of the downtown area,
you saw and smelled the smoke from the burning cars and buildings. (Garcia Castro, Blowout!
pg131). This demonstrates how the testimonio gave us a different view of social activism that was
occurring during the time period. It is portrayed to us through a personal response of someone who
experience it first hand. As the Blowouts progressed the Chicano students attitudes changed. A
student explains after the movement, were the first time that we began to develop

Essay on The Negative Effects of Violent Video Games
In recent years our society has experienced many tragic school shootings in which teens have
committed heinous crimes for no apparent reason. The question has become who is to blame or
what inspired these attacks on these innocent victims? This question has become an epidemic in
our country. We live in a violent world and young people have easy access to it whether it s on
television, in music or on the Internet. But with the explosion of media entertainment in recent
years, video games have come under scrutiny as to whether or not violence in video games numbs
children and teens to the consequences of real life violence. The answer to this question is yes.

is that Eric Harris and Dylan Klebold did in fact harm people and were partly influenced by the

Violence is not something that can be used well, whether used in video games or in real life.
Harris and Klebold, on the other hand, thought the opposite, in real life and in video games, with
Harris going as far as creating their own customized version of their favorite game, Doom. Craig

Lee De Forest
Lee De Forest was born Aug. 26, 1873, Council Bluffs, Iowa. De Forest was the son of a

childhood in this rural community. (Kraeuter, 74). As a child he was fascinated with machinery and

Narrative Essay About Mickey Mouse
I remember the event like it was yesterday; my heart was beating and I could hear and feel it, I
had determination on my face and in my mind and it felt good. My determination was to beat
my younger brother to the top of the tree in our side yard. I almost never climb the trees in our
yard for the fear of falling out; which has happened before when we went apple picking which
did not end well on my part of climbing in those apple trees. But we were getting ready that nice
sunny morning in the summer. I remember the nice sunshine and heat on my face and the cool
winds coming from the East and it was just exhilarating. I told my brother Michael I bet you five
bucks you can t beat me to the top of that tree! pointing at one in the yard. I knew he would do it
because he would want the money and he always wanted to one up me.
So we were setting up and talking smack to one another, names being changed to something else

nickname stuck around through that day and not his real name Michael. So we are all prepared
to do it and we are at the bottom of the tree. I noticed that there was a cinder block at the bottom
of the tree and I said Mickey better not fall on that. . And that was a dumb thing to say as to I
should have just moved it so there was no possible way it could happen. But I was just a fifth

My Reflection On My Nursing Journey
My Nursing Journey I once heard someone say, Find something you love to do and you ll
always be successful. If you want to be in a field where you are continually learning, nursing
would be the top pick. This paper will reflect the journey I have taken from Registered Nurse (RN)
to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with the incorporation of my learning objectives from my
clinical course.
Although, I ve been in healthcare for over 20 years, working as a medical assistant, I believe my
journey truly began with nursing school. It is one thing to do a job that you have been shown to do,
but it becomes different as I now understand why these processes are done as well as the
physiological implications. The journey to get to this point had felt like a lifelong one with many
disappointments and struggles along the way. However because of the knowledge I now have, I
wouldn t change a thing as I consider it extremely valuable.
My clinical experience for this semester was an opportunity to follow the house supervisor at Trios
Healthcare in Kennewick, WA. The courses at Washington State University (WSU) consisting of
leadership and management have taught me the value of collaboration as well as communication.
With the opportunity to follow the house supervisor I was able to apply this knowledge to my
clinical experience. This was especially good because one of my learning objectives was to

Stereotyping in The Way We Lie by Stephanie Ericsson Essay
In the essay The Way We Lie, Stephanie Ericsson writes that All the isms racism, sexism, ageism,
et al. are founded on and fueled by the stereotype and the clichГ©, which are lies of exaggeration,
omission, and ignorance. They are always dangerous. They take a single tree and make it a
landscape. This quote is important due to the fact that stereotypesplay a major role in many aspects
of our society. In American society we have a tendency to pass judgment on people just because of
a pre existing stereotypethat our society has formed on particular groups over the years. American
Society tends to create stereotypes because of the simplicity it adds to our lives, but stereotypes can
cause us to oversimplify the characteristics... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her essay, Stephanie Ericsson makes the point that perhaps stereotyping is used as a sort of
short hand in our society. Stereotyping has become something that we have found to be a vital
part of our communication due to our need for information in the smallest possible amount of
time. It is much easier for an individual to create a stereotype for another individual than it is to
actually learn what they are like. You could spend one second looking at any individual walking
down the road and create a stereotype on who they are, and what they are about. It takes real time
and patience to actually look at an individual, talk to them, learn who they really are, and discover
what they are really about. Patience is not a crucial part of judging others in our society mostly
due to the popular usage of stereotypes. Also, because of our fast paced lives we have become
immune to using patience to learn about the characteristics of others.
Stereotyping cannot only cause less of a need to get to know others, but can also become rather
dangerous. Sometimes individuals pass stereotypes on certain people or groups that initiate anger
and hate due to the origin of the stereotype. For example, the Ku Klux Klan is an organization that
has been around for decades. This particular organization had a developed stereotype against black
Americans that resulted in the death of hundreds of African Americans beginning in the early 1800
s. Though the Ku Klux Klan

Charles Darwin s Theory of Evolution by Natural Selection...
Darwin collected and described thousands of animals and plants. In South America he observed the
adaptations of organisms to a variety of habitat from jungle to grassland to mountain habitats. In the
temperate regions the species resembled more closely the species of the tropical regions of South
America rather than the corresponding speciesof the temperate regions of Europe. For example, in
the grasslands of Argentina there are no rabbits, however, there are rodents that resemble rabbits;
these rodents are unrelated to European rabbits but are similar to other rodents in South America.
Moreover, the fossils in South America are dissimilar to European fossils but have similarities with
extant (i.e. currently living) plants and animals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cuvier founded the science of paleontology and described the differences between the fossil flora
and fauna in different strata of rock: he observed that the more recent strata had fossils that more
closely resembled extant organisms. Cuvier believed that the discontinuities between fossils in
different strata were brought about by catastrophes such as floods which caused the extinction of
many species living at a particular time. This interpretation of earth s history is termed
catastrophism and was also held by many contemporary geologists. By contrast, Hutton and
subsequently Lyell held that geological processes are slow and subtle but that over prolonged
periods of time (millions of years) these can lead to major changes; implicit in this viewpoint is an
age for the earth radically different from the 6,000 years of the biblical creationists.
Other key influences on Darwin were Malthus who had concluded that war and famine were
inevitable as the human population grew more rapidly than available resources, and Lamarck who
had proposed a theory of evolution based on a continuous process of gradual modification due to
acquired characteristics. Both Darwin and Wallace brought together a multitude of facts including
the geographical distribution of organisms, comparative morphology of living organisms and their
fossil precursors. They postulated that long term environmental changes including movement of
land

Homelessness Is A Major Topic Affecting The United States...
AbstractHomelessness is a major topic affecting the United States and other parts of the world; it
is a very complex issue that affects the community from an economic and a social perspective

and homelessness in general; we will also look at the recent reports that homelessnessis on a slight
decline. We will propose ideas on what we can do to affect homelessness as well. Defining what
exactly it is to be homeless and the difference between homelessness and homeless was very
difficult to do as numerous sources gave very difference responses with categories and
subcategories. National statistical series contain title to no information on the homeless; the census
essentially only takes into consideration those with homes. Based on prior research primarily
conducted by Peter H. Rossi and James D. Wright along with several other sources, we are able to

countries along with more empirical data.

White Elephants Are Like An Abortion
White Elephants are like an Abortion
As we know conceiving a child is a life changing experience; indeed, it can sometimes be a good or
a bad experience. In the story Hills like White Elephants, Hemingway s unnamed American male
dominates the weaker sexed Jig Rankin. Throughout the story the American man is trying to
convince the pregnant Jig to abort their baby. They are discussing a life and death situation, literally
for the unborn child, and figuratively for their relationship. There are many themes that help make
the story very intriguing. A few of the themes in the short storyare courage, domination, addiction,
and communication.
The courage in the story comes from our character Jig. It seems that she is brave enough to go
through with the pregnancy while the American man is too selfish and afraid, saying things like
But I don t want anybody but you. I don t want anyone else. (478) He cannot face up to the change
and challenge that life brings them. The man is very persistent in opposing of Jig s maternity, he
even contradicts himself, calling the abortion first an awfully simple operation, and then not really

Professor Arononnax 20 000 Leagues Under The Sea
In his novel 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, Jules Verne introduced the reader to a brilliant
professor by the name of Aronnax and the eccentric Captain Nemo who mans the Nautilus, a
remarkable submarine. When the passage opens, it tells that Aronnax is debating with the other
crew members, and he believes there is more to the pole than just ice. This illustrates that
Professor Aronnax is a very curious ,yet simplistic person. In the first place, Professor Aronnax is
a very optimistic person throughout the story. In paragraph 11 he says that he is eager to see what
is behind the ice bank even though his colleagues say its just Ice, ice, and more ice as it stated in
paragraph 10. He proves numerous time through the story that he is

Cauliflower is nothing but cabbage with a college education, as the outstanding author, Mark

Universities all around the nation offer terrific programs that match the interests of everyone. The
University of Missouri, also known as Mizzou, would be a terrific college to attend for a quality

The Influence of Science Fiction
Films do and have always reflected society because they show what s important to people. Films
demonstrate fads and hot button issues. Film is not only a piece of art but also a tool of social
reform as it expresses the feelings of humans and their idea of contemporary society. Films are the
mirror that reflect the society. They are controlled by powerful forces that filter information to the
public as well as reflect their fears. This has been held true in the film industry for many decades.
For example, when society had a fear of widespread crime then there were many films that reflected
the police catching the criminals. When society felt that the schools were not educating the children
then there were films reflecting inspirational... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This fear was evident in the science fiction films made in that decade. The Japanese, who had
already suffered the most from the atomic fallout, were foremost in delivering this terror on film.
Godzilla was the result of the American atomic ability. Godzilla wreaked havoc on Tokyo and
Japanese citizens. Godzilla can be seen as a metaphor for the horrors the Japanese people
endured and was a way to face their fears in the safety of a movie theater. American filmmakers
were also concerned with the consequences of nuclear technology. They created their own
monsters in films such as The Beast of 20,000 Fathoms. This film was based on Ray Bradbury s
short story, The Foghorn . It revealed the horrors that atomic technology and radiation can wreak
on both the environment and on the creatures that live on the planet. It involved the accidental
awakening of a King Kong with fins by atomic testing in the Arctic. The beast headed for New
York devastating everything in its path before it was defeated by good radioactivity . These
movies were entertaining and provided a crude snapshot of the way America desperately did not
want itself to be. The fear of social change was also predominate in the 1950s. The greatest social
change of the 50 s can be contributed to the rise of the babyboom era. At the end of World War II
thousands of soldiers returned home to their families where the

Ebenezer Scrooge s Visit by the Three Spirits in Dickens ...
Novels that are phenomenal makes the reader travel into a world where anything can happen.
However, many authors made the readers travel into the main characters mind or point of view. In
Charles Dickens novel, A Christmas Carol, a grumpy and selfish old man, Ebenezer Scrooge, was
visited in his dream by three spirits. It all started in the morning of ChristmasEve when Scrooge
came across into some events which made him started thinking and dreaming about his past, present
and future with 3 different sprits.
Many people believed that the three Spirits did visit Scrooge. It started when Scrooge heard

Therefore, Scrooge didn t talk to the people, and remember that Scrooge doesn t like to chat with
other people, and he had a long night with the illusion of Marley. For these reasons, people believe
that Scrooge really met the three Spirits and therefore never thought of why it could have been all
in a dream.
Ebenezer Scrooge has been reminded in the beginning of the story about his old friend, family,
his nephew, and Christmas. These facts in the beginning must have bothered him. But the most
must have been his friend Marley. After Marley left the book said, ... went straight to bed,
without undressing, and fell asleep on the instant. Scrooge must have been extremely tired and
that s when he started to dream. When Scrooge and the Spirits of Christmas Past visit Scrooge s
past, Scrooge heard that it was all silent outside. This is some how wrong because during
Christmas Eve adults and children are out playing, getting last minute gifts, or having a feast.
After, Scrooge comes back from his past the Spirits of the present comes to show Scrooge s
present. The spirit tells Scrooge to enter a room which was full of foods and Christmas
decorations. When the Ghost of the present took him to places it is l loud and cheerful. All of a
sudden it was all loud (strange). Scrooge

`` Wuthering Heights `` By Emily Bronte
Romantic philosophers proposed that every person or entity had its own individual universe that
only the person or entity itself could observe. This Romantic self was desperate to connect to
others and yearned for love, a mutual connection between two understanding parties that could
allow the lonely self to access a universe outside of its own. If the longing to loveand connect with
this other person was a legitimate desire from the person s true energy, then Romantic philosopher
William Blake would say that it was pure and correct and must be followed. Tragically, many
people fail to understand their energies and chase after what they think they want but what will
bring no real joy to them. To truly love and connect to another, one must... Show more content on

When Catherine I returns from Thrushcross Grange, she is unrecognizable to Heathcliff because
she has evolved into a more complete version of herself that he cannot accept. Cathy I tries to
embrace Heathcliff in a hug and, as William Blake would say, momentarily touch souls, but
Heathcliff adopts a black , cross expression, because the Catherine I that has returned is not the
Catherine I that he wanted back (BrontГ« 42). Heathcliff s shame and pride [throw] double
gloom over his countenance, and [keep] him immoveable (BrontГ« 42). He stares at the girl he
thought was his other half and cannot find anything familiar under the perfect dress and neat coils
of silken hair. Heathcliff is immoveable in that he will not be swayed to the new Cathy I s side,
even if she contained this version of herself within all along. He mistakenly thinks that he is only in
love with the Catherine I whom he thought he knew, rather than the person that Catherine I actually
is, which includes Thrushcross Grange s influence. By forcing Cathy I into the walls of his
perception, Heathcliff erases her personhood completely. While Heathcliff clings to the Catherine I
that he remembers, Cathy I believes that if she belongs partially at Thrushcross Grange, then he
must as well. Cathy I likes the person she became at Thrushcross Grange because she always had

Puritanism Vs Deism
In the mid to late 17th century, New England settlers were attempting to break away from Britain
and begin a new society. They wanted to reinvent their own culture, govern themselves, and begin
what they hoped would one day become a prosperous nation. One thing they wanted to have the
liberty of practicing was religion, and having the choice of which particular religions they wished to
follow. Puritanism and Deismwere two different religions that were practiced in 17th century New
England, and the differences between them sometimes were grounds for confrontations and
conflict. The Puritan standpoint depicted in the works of John Winthrop, Michael Wigglesworth,
John Dane, and Mary Rowlandson, and the Deist views of Benjamin Franklin... Show more content

This statement shows Franklin s view of our Creator, which is the belief that no evil existed in the
world, so humans were not created with the notion that they are unworthy and undeserving of God
s grace. Franklin goes on to say, And therefore every Creature must be equally esteem d by the
Creator (Franklin, 27). According to Deists, their God was not a biased God, and every human was
created equal, with no one having a better chance to make it to heaven than others.
The Puritan and Deist views on afterlife are also an area where these two religions are not in
sync with one another. Puritans believed in the concept of predestination, meaning that it was
determined whether one was going to spend afterlife in heaven or hell at the time of their
creation. In Day of Doom, Michael Wigglesworth, a minister in Massachusetts during the 17th
century, explains how there will come a day when Christ returns to earth to judge who will be
destined for heaven or doomed to hell. He writes that Christ explains to those who are being sent
to hell deserve their eternal punishment, despite the fact that it was a foregone conclusion due to
the fact that it had been predetermined. He also explains that in order to accept the offer of God s
salvation, one must be able to comprehend the meaning of such an offer. This puts certain
members of society at an obvious advantage over others. For example, a middle aged white male
who has had some degree of education would surely

  • 4. Five Principles Of Tragedy Discuss the principles of tragedy as defined in Aristotle s Poetics. Illustrate these principles by examining Sophocles play Oedipus the King, in order to establish the link between the theory and practise of tragedy. Analyse the genre of tragedy as one that reveals dilemma and paradox. The advent of modern theater as we know it today began with the worship of Dionysus: the god of the grape harvest, winemaking and wine, of ritual madness, fertility, theater and religious ecstasy in Greek mythology and a weeklong competition that welcomed the Spring in ancient Greece. Many great playwrights were introduced to the World by the means of this weeklong competition including Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides. Sophocles is perhaps one of the pioneers of the genre of tragedy and his plays Oedipus Rex, Antigone and Oedipus at Colonus have for centuries inspired contemporary playwrights and theater artists to venture deeper into the understanding of the complex idea of the individual versus fate. Further examples of Oedipus as an ideal tragic hero can be derived out of the fact that he comes from a noble and prosperous background as he s the biological son of the Laius, king of Thebes and the adopted son of Polybus, the king of Corinth. He also is greatly revered in the society and respected as a very adept and benevolent king which is evident from the Priest s reference to him as the first of men. • 5. Analysis Of When Morning Comes By Arushi Raina Over the past five weeks, my group and I read the novel, When Morning Comes written by Arushi Raina. This story takes place in 1976 during the Soweto Uprising in South Africa; a student lead protest against the Baas Laws, which required subjects to be taught in Afrikaans. The protagonists: Jack, Zanele, Meena, and Thabo start out as strangers with different racial identities, but through a series of chance meetings, each of their lives change significantly. During our Booktalk meetings, I was able to greater discuss some of the challenges that the protagonists faced, gain knowledge and insight about the novelfrom my peers, compare and contrast the themes in When Morning Comes with those in other books, and connect the novel to concepts learned in class. Before reading When Morning Comes, I hoped that the book would offer me some insight into how much our education system has progressed and improved, but it made me think about so much more than that. In When Morning Comes, each protagonist faces their own set of challenges. Even though each of the characters have very different identities, there are also many similarities between them. Zanele and Jack are polar opposites in terms of racial identityand social class, but what they have in common is their desire for love. Compared to the other characters in the novel, Jack is very privileged; he is white, his family has a lot of money, he has a girlfriend and lots of friends, and is heading to England to attend University of ... This plays out to be a team like environment, in which they contributed their different individual strengths towards the common goal; hunting down the massive man eating shark. This film also used countless props; however, there is truly only one that needs to be discussed, and goes by the name of Jaws. This massive great white shark was a 26 foot mechanical beast. This enormous steel gutted fish was connected to a crane arm which allowed the shark to tread just underneath the surface of the water at a rapid rate. This gives the realistic feel of the amount of power this shark has; being able to swim at such rates of speed. This adds to the fright element of movie because we all know that big animals can be intimidating. Animals that are big and fast are even scarier. Animals that are big, fast, and hungry, are a force to be reckoned with. The film, Jaws, uses a variety of different photographic techniques. Panning was used quite often in this movie to remind the viewer that they were a long distance from the shoreline. Additionally, plenty of filming was done underwater. This allowed the audience to get a realistic feel for the surrounding environment. The artist, as the author of the piece, generates the message, plans the piece, and executes it to the best of his abilities. The audience, on their part, uses past experiences and knowledge of the artist and artwork to interpret the work,(which interestedly can lead to multiple conclusions of the work that are far distant from the artist s original understanding). Then there is the artwork itself: it is the passive participant whose influences beyond that of the artist and the audienceis time. This is done through the process by which he created the piece: he generated the dimensions of each block according to a mathematical premise and then he sent the plan to a factory to have the blocks fabricated. Through this process he had ten identical blocks made. Thus, the piece maintains only a distant connection to the artist who created it, and resembles that of the mass production in which the industrial designer creates a general plan that the factory workers then replicate repeatedly. This elimination of the artist s involvement is also illustrated in the title of the piece , Untitled : through the intentional act of not giving the piece a name, Judd therefore refuses to impose any preconstructed view on the piece. By eliminating himself from the conversation as much as possible, Judd focuses the attention toward the interaction between the piece and the audience, and particularly the piece. Of course, it is questionable whether the artist truly removed himself, and his views, from the work. Establishing now that no exterior influences beyond the process of art are affecting the piece, I now consider the interior influences of the piece: that is, the elements of art and ... Augustus Caesar was formally named Octavian and is a character in Shakespeare s play. The first reason why The Aeneid is associated with Antony and Cleopatra is because a character in Antony and Cleopatra, Octavian, later known as Augustus, is the leader of the Roman Empire during the time when Virgil wrote The Aeneid and for whom it was written. Historically, before Augustus became emperor, internal strife plagued the Roman government. During Virgil s youth, the First Triumvirate which included Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus governed the Roman Empire. Crassus was killed around 53 B.C.E., and Caesar initiated civil war against Pompey. After defeating Pompey, Caesar reigned alone until the Ides of March in 44 B.C., when Brutus and Cassius, two senators, assassinated him. Civil war erupted between the assassins and the Second Triumvirate which included Octavian, Antony, and Lepidus. By 36 B.C.E., only Octavian and Antony remained, and they began warring against each other. At the Battle of Actium in 31 B.C., Octavian defeated Antony and his ally Cleopatra of Egypt, finally consolidating power in himself alone (Sparknotes). Shakespeare s play follows the events of the Second Triumvirate and ends when Octavian defeats Antony and becomes the sole ruler. These shifts have hurt young people in every part of the nation and in every family dynamic. From the decline of social interaction with their peers, to an increase of mental illnesses such as depression, the use of cell phones have lead to the correlation between these epidemics. There are some positives to this situation; teens nowadays are safer and don t go out as much, and more teens are having less sex, thus leading to lower teen pregnancy rates. In the article, Have Smartphones Destroyed a Generation, Jean M. Twenge effectively argues that smartphones have had a negative impact on teen s social lives by making them more prone to being antisocial; however, she is incorrect when she argues that smartphones have a negative impact on mental health and independency because correlation does not equal causation. The fact that teens of this generation are being more antisocial than in the past is vividly shown throughout society. This claim is mainly stated while Twenge is talking to a 13 year old girl named Athena. Much like any other average American teenage girl, Athena enjoys pastimes such as watching Netflix, going to the mall with friends, browsing the internet, and much more. Although these all sound like fun things to do, they all have one thing in common: teens are not spending quality time with anyone while doing these activities. Now, going to the mall does require you being with someone face to face, but the majority of the time that teens spend with each other is on their phone. They re usually on some social media app, capturing the entire event of being together, or they re talking to other people that are not there instead of speaking to people face to face. As Athena states, I think we like our phones more than we like actual people (pg.2). This rings true to prove the fact that to some teens, there is no need to wonder outside of their comfortable beds to socialize; their friends are just one quick text, Snapchat, or phone call away. The goal of cognitive behavioral therapyis to have a structured, short term, present oriented psychotherapyfor depression, directed toward solving current problems and modifying dysfunctional thinking and behavior (Beck, 1995, p. 1). It has been shown successful in not only treating depression, but also a wide range of psychiatric disorders in various client populations. In both books, the testimonio helped tell a fuller story because it provided a deeper first hand view of socially significant scenes and demonstrated, through their own voice, first hand how characters identities were developed. These individuals were transformed because they faced realizations of larger political pictures. Cesar Chavez was a civil rights activist who organized the earliest Chicano movements. He explains an encounter where a teacher told him, Sit in the encounter until you learn English (Garcia Castro, Blowout! pg32). This quote shows that even in the first grade Castro realized that racism was alive and present, and it was wrong. He believed that it was wrong for the school to be treating him a certain way (badly), simply because of his culture. Through the testimonio, these early encounters show us how Castro s identity and core values were shaped. Furthermore, Castro s testimonio allows him to tell a fuller story of social activism. For example, Castro vividly recalls the Watts Riot that took place in Los Angeles. The Watts Riot was the result of the community reacting to allegations of police brutality against an African American motorcyclist. Castros explains, If you lived or worked anywhere near Watts, located south of the downtown area, you saw and smelled the smoke from the burning cars and buildings. (Garcia Castro, Blowout! pg131). This demonstrates how the testimonio gave us a different view of social activism that was occurring during the time period. It is portrayed to us through a personal response of someone who experience it first hand. As the Blowouts progressed the Chicano students attitudes changed. A student explains after the movement, were the first time that we began to develop consciousness...It was very affirmative. Stereotyping in The Way We Lie by Stephanie Ericsson Essay In the essay The Way We Lie, Stephanie Ericsson writes that All the isms racism, sexism, ageism, et al. are founded on and fueled by the stereotype and the clichГ©, which are lies of exaggeration, omission, and ignorance. They are always dangerous. They take a single tree and make it a landscape. This quote is important due to the fact that stereotypesplay a major role in many aspects of our society. In American society we have a tendency to pass judgment on people just because of a pre existing stereotypethat our society has formed on particular groups over the years. American Society tends to create stereotypes because of the simplicity it adds to our lives, but stereotypes can cause us to oversimplify the characteristics... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her essay, Stephanie Ericsson makes the point that perhaps stereotyping is used as a sort of short hand in our society. Stereotyping has become something that we have found to be a vital part of our communication due to our need for information in the smallest possible amount of time. It is much easier for an individual to create a stereotype for another individual than it is to actually learn what they are like. You could spend one second looking at any individual walking down the road and create a stereotype on who they are, and what they are about. It takes real time and patience to actually look at an individual, talk to them, learn who they really are, and discover what they are really about. Patience is not a crucial part of judging others in our society mostly due to the popular usage of stereotypes. Also, because of our fast paced lives we have become immune to using patience to learn about the characteristics of others. Stereotyping cannot only cause less of a need to get to know others, but can also become rather dangerous. Sometimes individuals pass stereotypes on certain people or groups that initiate anger and hate due to the origin of the stereotype. For example, the Ku Klux Klan is an organization that has been around for decades. This particular organization had a developed stereotype against black Americans that resulted in the death of hundreds of African Americans beginning in the early 1800 s. Though the Ku Klux Klan ... In South America he observed the adaptations of organisms to a variety of habitat from jungle to grassland to mountain habitats. In the temperate regions the species resembled more closely the species of the tropical regions of South America rather than the corresponding speciesof the temperate regions of Europe. For example, in the grasslands of Argentina there are no rabbits, however, there are rodents that resemble rabbits; these rodents are unrelated to European rabbits but are similar to other rodents in South America. Moreover, the fossils in South America are dissimilar to European fossils but have similarities with extant (i.e. currently living) plants and animals... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cuvier founded the science of paleontology and described the differences between the fossil flora and fauna in different strata of rock: he observed that the more recent strata had fossils that more closely resembled extant organisms. Cuvier believed that the discontinuities between fossils in different strata were brought about by catastrophes such as floods which caused the extinction of many species living at a particular time. This interpretation of earth s history is termed catastrophism and was also held by many contemporary geologists. By contrast, Hutton and subsequently Lyell held that geological processes are slow and subtle but that over prolonged periods of time (millions of years) these can lead to major changes; implicit in this viewpoint is an age for the earth radically different from the 6,000 years of the biblical creationists. Other key influences on Darwin were Malthus who had concluded that war and famine were inevitable as the human population grew more rapidly than available resources, and Lamarck who had proposed a theory of evolution based on a continuous process of gradual modification due to acquired characteristics. Both Darwin and Wallace brought together a multitude of facts including the geographical distribution of organisms, comparative morphology of living organisms and their fossil precursors. AbstractHomelessness is a major topic affecting the United States and other parts of the world; it is a very complex issue that affects the community from an economic and a social perspective (Clapham). This paper will focus on how urbanization has played a role in the homeless population and homelessness in general; we will also look at the recent reports that homelessnessis on a slight decline. We will propose ideas on what we can do to affect homelessness as well. Defining what exactly it is to be homeless and the difference between homelessness and homeless was very difficult to do as numerous sources gave very difference responses with categories and subcategories. National statistical series contain title to no information on the homeless; the census essentially only takes into consideration those with homes. Based on prior research primarily conducted by Peter H. Rossi and James D. Wright along with several other sources, we are able to propose several ideas to help reduce the amount of homelessness in the United Statesand other countries along with more empirical data. A lack of affordable housing has resulted in an inability to obtain adequate, appropriate, and affordable housing; urban renewal applied federal funds to remove blighted areas. He stares at the girl he thought was his other half and cannot find anything familiar under the perfect dress and neat coils of silken hair. Heathcliff is immoveable in that he will not be swayed to the new Cathy I s side, even if she contained this version of herself within all along. He mistakenly thinks that he is only in love with the Catherine I whom he thought he knew, rather than the person that Catherine I actually is, which includes Thrushcross Grange s influence. By forcing Cathy I into the walls of his perception, Heathcliff erases her personhood completely. While Heathcliff clings to the Catherine I that he remembers, Cathy I believes that if she belongs partially at Thrushcross Grange, then he must as well. Cathy I likes the person she became at Thrushcross Grange because she always had some Grange in her ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Puritanism Vs Deism In the mid to late 17th century, New England settlers were attempting to break away from Britain and begin a new society. They wanted to reinvent their own culture, govern themselves, and begin what they hoped would one day become a prosperous nation. One thing they wanted to have the liberty of practicing was religion, and having the choice of which particular religions they wished to follow. Puritanism and Deismwere two different religions that were practiced in 17th century New England, and the differences between them sometimes were grounds for confrontations and conflict. This statement shows Franklin s view of our Creator, which is the belief that no evil existed in the world, so humans were not created with the notion that they are unworthy and undeserving of God s grace. Franklin goes on to say, And therefore every Creature must be equally esteem d by the Creator (Franklin, 27). He also explains that in order to accept the offer of God s salvation, one must be able to comprehend the meaning of such an offer. This puts certain members of society at an obvious advantage over others. For example, a middle aged white male who has had some degree of education would surely ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
