Terminology
Terminology
Interval Data - General term for any data provided at a
regular interval of time
Terminology
Channel - Set of data on a meter with the same interval
(1 min, 15 min, 1 day, 30 day, etc.), unit of measure
(kW, kWh, Gal, MLB, Value, etc.), and reading type
(i.e. Demand, Usage, Reading).
Terminology
Counter - A meter that contains a channel of data. It is
different from a typical meter in that it is not associated
with an account and so does not have any bill data
associated with it.
Terminology
Route - A collection of meters and channels that
provides access to view, edit, and create interval
data values
Setup of a Channel Demo
Create a channel … from a distribution (recommended) or
from meter properties (opportunity for incorrect setup)
Explain Channel Properties
Type (Use or Demand)
Reading Type (If intention is to create bills, select
‘Reading Use’)
Unit of measure
Odometer or Trip
Multiplier
Maximum Reading
Importing Interval Data Demo
Until ECO 3.4.3 you could only use ECE for import
Must have ImportID set to match the DeviceID
(use an update sheet or update one by one from meter
properties)
Importing Interval Data Demo (cont’d)
How to create a profile for importing interval data
How to create a channel from an import
May want to update properties afterwards using an
update sheet or one by one from meter properties
May also use our API for importing interval data
What if not all of my readings are imported?
Coming in 2016:
SMART CAPture
Coming in 2016: SMART CAPture
Interval data is simpler in nature compared with bill data
Still a challenge to collect
And there are a variety of formats available
In 2016 we are launching a service to make data
available from the following list of vendors and sources
SMART CAPture Vendors
AEPTexas
Alabama Power
Ariz Pub Svc
BGE
CPS Energy

Using Interval Data Demo
Demonstrate new feature: sub-monthly interval data can
be summed for use by the Chargeback Engine
New monthly channel is created for billing readings
Separate processor to summarize interval readings
Readings can be tied to vendor bill so that submeter
bill dates match vendor bill dates for maximum
accuracy for analysis
Also can be summarized as part of
Chargeback Processor
Auditing Interval Data Demo
Auditing Interval Data
Channel reports provide a visual aide
CH01 (Daily totals per place per meter)
CH04 (Monthly totals per place per meter)
CH06 (User-defined period totals per place per meter)
Auditing Interval Data Demo (cont’d)
Auditing Interval Data
For bill validation: Compare channel usage to bill usage
CH07 (Based on start/end date for bill on meter,
provides metered use total & variance)
CH09 (Shows current and previous readings only
and comparison to bill on meter)
Auditing Interval Data Demo (cont’d)
Confirming building nightly set-back schedule is working
CH08 filtered for a building for a particular date range
In Buildings & Meters, select the meter and then
navigate to the Actual Data tab. Then navigate to the
Channels sub-tab.
Setup of a Counter
Currently can only be created in ECE
Typically channels are daily channels but can be any
interval
Naming the Counter with a Meter Code beginning with
TOTAL allows integration with the AN22CC report
Example: Visitors to Civic Plaza

Editor's Notes

  1. Welcome to the session on Channels, Interval Data, Import, Counters, and Routes. Let’s start off with a quick poll … How many of you are getting submeter data today? From your Vendor? From a submeter system? Manually entering readings? How many of you are having to manipulate in some way the submeter data (roll it up, for example) so that you can use it for generating bills? Did any of you come into this session with a burning question on your mind?
  2. Contrast process by using meter properties and using the distribution From CBM and the Chargeback Setup click on 1072_SM1 and then Meter Properties From CBM then edit the distribution, add a submeter node for 1072_SP1 and then click + next to channel Max reading used to determine if a meter rolled back or rolled over; logic is that if value goes back more than 10% of max reading then it is a rollover. Otherwise it is a roll back.
  3. Prior to import, display meter 1149 … For Import Demonstration use the file: Session 4 – Water Data for Meter 1149 This demonstrates how to create the profile, how data is imported, and how a channel is created. Steps for Demo Create a profile for the file I am importing (preview the file for them) Import readings After channel is created you .... Do need to indicate the Output Unit and add to a route if the channel is a monthly one and you want to create bills from it D not need to indicate the Output Unit or add to a route if it is a sub-monthly interval that will be summarized for monthly readings and billing
  4. Sub-monthly interval example Create monthly channel and check box for it being a SUM (create on meter 1149_SM) It knows to use the LOWEST INTERVAL if there are multiple sub-monthly channels on the meter Initiate meter channel with reading 0 for date 9/23/2015 Import file: Session 4 - 15 minute Meter Readings for Water Meter 1149_SM.xlsx. Then I can use Water Meter 1149_SM to demonstrate how 15minute data is summarized to monthly data in a new channel Run channel processor to calculate monthly rollup Use 9/23/2015 as a start (once bill created, use last month reading date) Use 10/31/2015 for Reading End Date Setup chargeback manually for water distribution (select 1149 as the master meter but SM is 1149_SM) Then run the chargeback processor for dates 9/22/2015 through 11/1/2015. Note: I am using the water rate ‘City of Baltimore‘ for unit cost.
