Measurement and Verification (M&V) refers to the standards and processes for determination of energy savings due to energy management projects. When energy savings are quantified and expressed in units of currency, this type of savings is called Cost Avoidance.
GE has developed a battery storage system that integrates with their wind turbines. The battery technology allows for short-term energy storage directly at the turbine, providing energy storage capabilities without the high costs of installing large batteries at the wind farm level. The system uses three software applications - Ramp Control, Predictable Power, and Frequency Regulation - that leverage the battery storage to provide more consistent and predictable power output to the energy grid from the wind turbines. This benefits both wind farm operators and energy grid operators.
Cenergistic is an energy conservation company that specializes in organizational behavior change to reduce energy consumption. They have worked with over 1,390 organizations across 48 states, reducing average energy usage by 26%. The presentation discusses Cenergistic's history and growth since 1982, national energy usage statistics, the importance of behavioral energy conservation, Cenergistic's client support process and implementation methodology, and their use of EnergyCAP software to accurately measure savings.
EMA Energy Manager’s Guide to Building ControlsEMEX
The control of energy in non-domestic buildings is generally poor, despite the availability of a range of tried and tested systems incorporating both established and innovative technologies. Although the installation of HVAC zone controls, optimising controllers (for Wet Heating Systems) and lighting controls is encouraged by the building codes, their requirements are basic. As a result, specifications are often limited to the minimum requirements, and superior technologies, such as pre-programmed packaged Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS) and Demand Control Ventilation (DCV), are ignored.

The document discusses the concept of co-locating wind and solar power generation facilities. It analyzes data from 10 existing wind farms in Australia to examine the benefits, challenges, and complementary nature of wind and solar resources. The analysis found that 6 of the 10 wind farms showed reasonable anti-correlation between wind and solar production. It also examined how additional solar capacity could be added without significant curtailment. The document concludes that co-location is worth consideration for developers and that opportunities exist, particularly in Western Australia and New South Wales.

Unlocking the Innovation Hidden within Today’s Variable-Speed DrivesEMEX
It is more than 40 years since the technology of variable-speed drives (VSDs) entered the market. Yet despite electric motors accounting for some 65 percent of industrial energy consumption, only 5 percent of installed motors are speed controlled. While not all motors are suitable for speed control, there is still a large proportion that could be. Yet when asked what is the most effective way to reduce energy, UK business responded with “change energy supplier”. Without doubt the most effective way to get real energy savings is to install energy efficient motors and VSDs. In this presentation John Guthrie looks at the impact of VSDs on a diverse range of sectors, offering real examples from hospitals and swimming pools to data centres and car parks.

Johnson Matthey is a specialty chemicals company and world leader in advanced materials technology. It has implemented an energy management program to reduce costs and increase sustainability. The program focused on better measurement and monitoring of energy usage, identifying significant energy users, optimizing equipment usage, and improving employee awareness and engagement through a PDCA cycle. These efforts have resulted in over R15 million in energy savings to date. Continued measurement, optimization of new projects, and sustaining performance will help the company achieve further efficiency gains.
The document discusses how upgrading hydronic and booster pumps with variable frequency drives through incentive programs can significantly reduce electricity costs. It outlines four steps: 1) take advantage of audit funding incentives to assess energy savings potential, 2) apply for retrofit incentives to implement balancing improvements, 3) see rewards with quick paybacks as short as four months, 4) contact representatives for help applying to the retrofit program. Upgrading a sample 25HP motor with a VFD could save over $6,000 annually with a four month payback after incentives.

Quantitative Precipitation Estimation at The Climate CorporationValliappa Lakshmanan
Seminar at the U. Washington. The Climate Corporation (“TCC”) makes decision-making tools for farmers. 24-hour quantitative precipitation estimates (QPEs) drive a number of farming decisions, and the accuracy of the 24h QPEs in turn affect the accuracy of TCC's agronomic models. Therefore, the creation of accurate QPEs is an area of active research focus at TCC. In this talk, I talk about the multi-sensor QPE pipeline, how we estimate and show uncertainty and how we evaluate the performance of QPE algorithms on farming use cases. In addition, TCC is conducting field experiments at several locations throughout the Midwest. I will present findings related to the intra-field variability of precipitation.

In the rapidly evolving landscape of technologies, XML continues to play a vital role in structuring, storing, and transporting data across diverse systems. The recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) present new methodologies for enhancing XML development workflows, introducing efficiency, automation, and intelligent capabilities. This presentation will outline the scope and perspective of utilizing AI in XML development. The potential benefits and the possible pitfalls will be highlighted, providing a balanced view of the subject.
We will explore the capabilities of AI in understanding XML markup languages and autonomously creating structured XML content. Additionally, we will examine the capacity of AI to enrich plain text with appropriate XML markup. Practical examples and methodological guidelines will be provided to elucidate how AI can be effectively prompted to interpret and generate accurate XML markup.
Further emphasis will be placed on the role of AI in developing XSLT, or schemas such as XSD and Schematron. We will address the techniques and strategies adopted to create prompts for generating code, explaining code, or refactoring the code, and the results achieved.
The discussion will extend to how AI can be used to transform XML content. In particular, the focus will be on the use of AI XPath extension functions in XSLT, Schematron, Schematron Quick Fixes, or for XML content refactoring.
The presentation aims to deliver a comprehensive overview of AI usage in XML development, providing attendees with the necessary knowledge to make informed decisions. Whether you’re at the early stages of adopting AI or considering integrating it in advanced XML development, this presentation will cover all levels of expertise.
By highlighting the potential advantages and challenges of integrating AI with XML development tools and languages, the presentation seeks to inspire thoughtful conversation around the future of XML development. We’ll not only delve into the technical aspects of AI-powered XML development but also discuss practical implications and possible future directions.
