- 2. Physical Features A. Shield: - Large flat plain in between the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains.
- 3. Physical Features B. Glaciers: - During the Ice Age these scraped the land and created the landscapes that we know today.
- 4. Physical Features C. Freshwater: - Most bodies of water are freshwater meaning that they were carved by glaciers and are not salinized. Examples: Great Lakes.
- 5. Physical Features D. Mountain Ranges: - Appalachian and Rockies. About 2,500 miles apart.
- 6. Physical Features E. Rivers: - Large system of rivers flow into Atlantic, Pacific, and Mississippi.
- 7. Climate A. Tundra and Subarctic: - Climate zones in the northern part of North America. Very snowy and icy.
- 8. Climate B. Humid Continental: - Winters are freezing cold but summers are hot and steamy. More common as you move further South.
- 9. Climate C. Marine West Coast: - Mostly rain rather than now. Warmer and drier summers. Common in Southern Canada and Northwestern America.
- 10. Climate D. Humid Subtropical: - Southeastern America; influenced by Gulf of Mexico.
- 11. Climate E. Tropical Wet and Dry: - Hot all year with both rainy and dry seasons.
- 12. Climate F. Arid and Semi-Arid: - Hot desert climates in the Southwestern United States.
- 13. History - A. Migration: Hunters migrated from Asia to Alaska 10,000 years ago.
- 14. History B. Scattered: - Most groups scattered throughout the United States. Some stayed in Alaska others moved more South.
- 15. History C. Europeans: -British and French began colonies along the Eastern Coast 16th-18th Centuries.
- 16. History D. Slavery: - Long dark history of using other humans as servants and workers. Help to lead up to Civil War.
- 17. History E. United: - After Civil War the nation of America united and became a much stronger nation.
- 18. History F. Relations: -Canada and America have strong bond. Longest unprotected border in the world. G. NAFTA: - Trade between the two countries made easier.
- 19. Population - A. 325 million: The number of people who live in Canada and the U.S.
- 20. Population B. Population Density: - Can range from millions per few square miles to as little as one person per forty three square miles.
- 21. Population C. Urban Areas: - Toronto is the largest in Canada and New York City is the largest in America.
- 22. Population D. Religion: - Mostly Christian, ยผ Roman Catholic. Next largest? No Religion, 1 out of 10.
- 23. Economic Activity A. Commercial Farming: - Extremely important to both Canada and America.
- 24. Economic Activity B. Forestry: - Planting, growing, harvesting trees.
- 25. Economic Activity C. Resources: -Oil and Coal for power. -Livestock and cattle raising.
