 Native Americans have lived there for thousands of
years,a long before Europeans went there.
 In 1492,Christopher Columbus went to America.
 In 1607,English people went to
Jamestown,Virginia.This was the First successful
English town in North America.
 In 1775,at Lexington and Concord,a war b/w the
colonies and England called the Revolutionary War
started.
 This war started because the American Colonists
believed that they were not being treated equally to
the Englishmen living in England.
 George Washington the first President of United
States.
 In the early 1800s,the new nation faced many
controversial issues,such as slavery.
 In 1861,several states in the South left the United
States to start a new country called
the”CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA”.
 This caused the American Civil War.
 After World War II,the US and the Soviet Union
entered a time known as the COLD WAR.
 During the 1980s,the US was dominated by the
Reagan Era led by President Ronald Reagan.
 In 2009,Barack Obama became the first black
president of the United States.

 Is the third largest continent in the world.
 Includes (23) countries and dozens of possessions
and territories.
 The two large countries are Canada and United
States.
 The continent stretches more than 6,508 kilometers
from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.

 Mexico is North America’s third largest country
lying south of U.S.A.
 It is a land of volcanic mountains and high plateaus.
 Mexico is about three times the size of Texas.
 Modern Cities,Volcanoes,snow-capped
mountains,and beautiful beaches all contribute to
make Mexico an exciting land of beauty.
 Like a great stone wall,a range of mountain winds
through Central America and deep into Mexico.
 There it splits into two ranges,the Sierra Madre
Oriental(East)and Occidental(West).
 A cool high plateau,500 miles(805 km.)wide and 1,500
miles(2,415 km.) long,is found b/w these ranges.
 Mountain cover two-thirds of the country.

Spaniards came.

to feed their families or work for pay on the
commercial farms.

 Greenland lies off the northest coast of Canada.
 This Island ,belonging to Denmark,lies in the North
Atlantic Ocean and south of the Arctic Ocean.
 The first European settlers found patches of green in
fjords and coastal meadows.
 To attract settlers fro Iceland,they called the
place”Greenland.
 Inuit hunters or Eskimos lived in Greenland.
 Some Greenlanders still depend on the seal for
meat,fuel,and clothing.

remains part of Denmark

The prefecture (i.e. French regional capital) of

 As with the other overseas departments,
Martinique is one of the twenty-
seven regions of France (being an overseas
region) and an integral part of the French
Republic. As part of France, Martinique is
part of the European Union, and its
currency is the euro. The official
language is French, although many of its
inhabitants also speak Antillean Creole
 Montserrat is nicknamed The Emerald Isle
of the Caribbean both for its resemblance to
coastal Ireland and for the Irish ancestry of
some of its inhabitants. Males also tend to
live longer in this country as defined in the
2013 CIA Factbook
 A new town and port is being developed at
Little Bay, which is on the northwest coast
of the island. While this construction
proceeds, the centre of government and
businesses rests at Brades.
 Today, people born in Puerto Rico
are natural-born U.S. citizens.The territory
operates under a local constitution, and
Puerto Ricans elect their own governor.
However, Puerto Rico lacks voting
members in Congress and is subject to the
plenary jurisdiction of the United States
under the Puerto Rico Federal Relations Act
of 1950. As of 2014, Puerto Rico remains a
U.S. territory, although a 2012
referendum showed a majority (54% of the
electorate) in favor of a change in status,
with full statehood the preferred option.
 It is the only remnant of the former colonial
empire of New France that remains
under French control
 The islands are situated at the entrance
of Fortune Bay, which extends into the
southern coast of Newfoundland, near
the Grand Banks. They are 3,819 kilometres
(2,373 mi) from Brest,

 The Virgin Islands are the western island
group of the Leeward Islands, which are the
northern part of the Lesser Antilles, and form the
border between the Caribbean Sea and
the Atlantic Ocean.
 The British Virgin Islands is an overseas
territory of the United
Kingdom comprising Tortola, Virgin Gorda, Jost
Van Dyke and Anegada.
 The Virgin Passage separates the U.S. Virgin
Islands from the so-called Spanish Virgin Islands
of Vieques and Culebra, which are part of Puerto
Rico. The United States dollar is the official
currency on both the British and U.S. Virgin
Islands as well as the Spanish/Puerto Rican
Virgin Islands.
 The Denali National Park and Preserve is
located in Interior Alaska and contains Mount
McKinley, the highest mountain in North
America. The word “Denali” means “the high
one” in the native Athabaskan language and
refers to Mount McKinley.Denali National

 The Grand Canyon is located in northern
Arizona and is one of the great tourist
attractions in the United States. The Grand
Canyon is not the deepest or the longest

  • 3.  Native Americans have lived there for thousands of years,a long before Europeans went there.  In 1492,Christopher Columbus went to America.  In 1607,English people went to Jamestown,Virginia.This was the First successful English town in North America.  In 1775,at Lexington and Concord,a war b/w the colonies and England called the Revolutionary War started.  This war started because the American Colonists believed that they were not being treated equally to the Englishmen living in England.  George Washington the first President of United States.
  • 4.  In the early 1800s,the new nation faced many controversial issues,such as slavery.  In 1861,several states in the South left the United States to start a new country called the”CONFEDERATE STATES OF AMERICA”.  This caused the American Civil War.  After World War II,the US and the Soviet Union entered a time known as the COLD WAR.  During the 1980s,the US was dominated by the Reagan Era led by President Ronald Reagan.  In 2009,Barack Obama became the first black president of the United States. 

  • 7.  Is the third largest continent in the world.  Includes (23) countries and dozens of possessions and territories.  The two large countries are Canada and United States.  The continent stretches more than 6,508 kilometers from the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.  North America is above the Arctic Circle.  North America countries (not shown on this map) include: Antigua and Barbuda,Barbados, Dominica, Grenada, Haiti, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & the Grenadines and Trinidad & Tobago.

  • 9. 1.Mexico is the most populous Spanish-speaking country in the world. 2.Greenland is the largest island in the world(excluding Australia) 3.The beaver is a national symbol of Canada. 4.The United States grows nearly all of the world’s popcorn. 5.About 35 species of sharks lived off the Coast Cuba. 6.According to the happy planet Index,Costa Rica is rated as the “greenest” and happiest country in the world. 7.All Aztec emperor in what is now Mexico introduced hot chocolate to Europeans.

  • 11.  The people of North America are a mixture of many nationalities.  The first European in North America began to settle in the 16th century.  The diversity and complexity of North American peoples are shown in their ancestries.  Aztecs and Mayas were two of the main Mexican tribes.  North America cans might have American,Indian,Europen,Asian or Africans ancestors
  • 12.  The Hudson Bay and Gulf of Mexico is in the North.  The Gulf of California is in the South.  The highest peak in North America,Mt.McKinley is in Alaska.  The Rocky Mountains in the west hug the Pacific Coast and extend southward into Mexico.They are called Sierra Madre Oriental and Sierra Madre Occidental.  Appalacian Mountains extend from the Gulf of St.Lawrence to the Gulf of Mexico.Appalachian region is rich in minerals and has many fertile river valleys.
  • 13.  North America b/w the Rocky Mountains and the Appalachians are the Central Plains.The plains are shaped like a giant “V”.  The western part of the region is called the Great Plains.  Many natural wonders can be found in North America from glaciers to deserts,from forest to giant redwood trees to smoking volcanoes.  B/w the United States and Canada the Niagara River pours over two great falls.
  • 14.  The Great Lakes can be reached through the St.Lawrence Seaway-a series of canals,dams,and locks in the St.Lawrence River.  Great Lakes is the Mississippi-Missouri River System,w/c drains the Central Plains and is the largest in North America.  Ohio River it forms one of the greatest inland waterway systems in the world.  Naigara River pours over two great falls.
  • 15.  North America has striking contrasts in climate.  The temperature is always cold in the far north and always hot in the far south.  North America enjoys a temperature climate w/ warm summer and cold winters.  North America has a continental climate,fairly dry w/ extrems of temperature:winters are cold,and summers are hot.  The Mexican Coasts and the lands of Central America and the Caribbean have a,tropical climate.

  • 20. 1.FEDERAL GOVERNMENT  Control over the whole country 2.SEVERAL OUTLYING DEPENDENCIES INCLUDE:  Puerto Rico,Virgins Islands in the West Indies,and Guam in the Marianas Islands. 3.THE CITIES  The United States has more than 50 cities w/ population exceeding 250 million.

  • 22.  Canada ,a huge country,covers most of the northern part of the North American continent.  Canada is the world’s second largest country after USSR.  Canada is a rich country and its people enjoy a high standard of living.
  • 23.  Northern end of the Appalachian Mountains is a region of hills and rolling plains stretching from New Brunswick to Newfoundland.  A neighboring region of fertile flat lands rims the Great Lakes and the St.Lawrence River.  Half of Canada’s people lived in these two regions.
  • 24.  Canada is noted for its beautiful scenery from the Rocky Mountains to the Atlantic Coastline.  The Canadian Shield is a rocky area dotted with thousands of lakes and swamps.  The ground is always frozen,  Trees and Crops cannot grow there;ths area is called the tundra.  Canada and United States share an unfortified border more than 500o miles(8,045 km.) long  Eight out of ten Canadians live within 100 miles(160 km.)of it.
  • 25.  The Canadians  The first inhabitans of Canada were the Indians and Eskimo(Inuit) peoples.  The French were the first European settlers.  British followed the French and settled in New Founland.  Most Canadians are European origin
  • 26.  Canada is a rich country and its people enjoy a high standard of living.  Most valuable products are oil,natural gas,coal and iron ore.  Ontario has most of the car factories,is the main steel producer,and has important aircraft and machinery industries.  Quebec has textile,paper,clothing,and chemical industries.  Ontarios abundant hydroelectricity and nuclear power have contrbuted greatly to industrial development.  Vancouver and other coastal centers thrive on fishing,shipping,and other activities.
