Hung Liu Essay
Hung Liu: The Chinese American Artist
By: Daniel Cagape

The mind changes, the word changes, time doesn t stay still, history is a verb, it is ongoing, there is no
past tense, future tense, history is constant Hung Liu told interviewer Rachelle Riechart (Riechart).
Hung Liu is a Chinese woman who was born in Changchun, China in 1948. She was born during the
age which we call the Chinese Cultural Revolution, which heavily impacted her life. She lived in
China for 36 years and then left for the United States. She now resides in Oakland, CA, where she
teaches art at Mills College ( A World of Art ). A lot of her artwork is based on photographs and

One dancer heard Ebens say explicitly It s because of you motherfu*kers that we re out of work was
the accusation he made. Vincent was a young man who was about to get married in a few weeks
before he was murdered. His father was a Chinese immigrant who worked hard and owned laundry
mats, and later served in the military for his citizenship and was later able to bring his wife and
adopted son, Vincent, to the free land (Yung). Hung Liu worked hard with extensive research to find
that her fellow Chinese people who had been living in America before her had owned many laundry
mats and were very involved in the laundry business. When asked by a college in South Carolina to
create a piece for them, she designed clothing and had her family create them and this piece later
turned into a memorial for the laundry businesses in the South (Riechart).

Another struggle that Hung Liu addressed that might have affected her life in California was that in
the 1800s, Chinese women were shipped in and used as prostitutes around San Francisco for miners

GI Bill educating service men and women as they returned from war increased both high
school and college graduation rates allowing the common man and woman to attain a
college degree. (Altschuler Blumin, 2009, p. 111) This legislation has affected the
graduations rates into the present day more than twenty three percent of the population
had graduated from college by the start of the twenty first century and ninety three
percent of the population had some college credits to their name. (PBS, 2000, p. 52 53)
The education of the masses has fostered knowledge in the general public and provided
career paths for the present day and future.
How this growth has broadened into the colleges and universities of today. The
first colleges and many of their predecessors used a liberal arts education format that

Act established new colleges where the leading object shall be without excluding other

The Influence Of Superhero Films
Since the release of the X men trilogy in the early 2000 s, superhero films have been an inextricable
part of the cultural landscape, especially in Hollywood. They are huge, seemingly permanent features
of modern media.
It s no wonder that people love superhero films
A lot of the audience grew up reading comic books or watching cartoon adaptations of them
They are able to see their favourite characters in the live action version and there is a sense of
nostalgia as they remember imagining the Iron Man suit actually existing in real life.
Superhero films are a form of escapism (how they provide)
They tend to be full of action and witty dialogues, immersing the audience in a colourful and exciting
world.
For example, Guardians Of The Galaxy is set apart from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They are brought to life by the incredible talents of actors who portray them wholeheartedly not only
in the big screen but also in real life.
For example, Robert Downey Jr. embodied his character iron man so much so he is synonymous with
the character. He recently presented a 3 D printed bionic arm to an amputee and inspired him to
embrace his differences and be confident with it.
However he is not the only one. Ryan Reynolds (Deadpool), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk) and Chris Evans
(Captain America) are also a few celebrities who uses their superhero counterpart to help give to
charity.
People argue that the negative impact of superhero films on society is that the film industry has not
been funding more emotionally driven stories and that superhero films are overshadowing those
genres of films.
That maybe true but this is how it has always been what the film industry is about.
The film industry goes through phases of genres and superhero movies are simply the current phase.
It can be that the phase will go on for an unknown period of time.
The film industry does not fund stories just because they are different or against the current

The Origin Of Paul Ree By Nietzche
In the preface, Nietzsche explains that the conception of this book was born out of his reading of
friend Paul Ree s Origin of Moral feelings. A book with which Nietzsche found himself at odds with
the assertions of Ree. Nietzsche interpreted Ree s work as denying the universality in the principles of
right and wrong. Moreover, Nietzsche saw concurrence with Ree s assertions that different societies
moral valuations might be defined by that society s cultural needs and conditions. Nietzsche was also
interested in Ree s explanation of the origins of responsibility, morality, punishment, and remorse.
Against this understanding of Ree s work, Nietzsche penned three essays which make up the work
known as The Genealogy of Morals. These essays are considered some of the more clear and
comprehensive writings of Nietzsche. Their intent appears to be a continuation in the critique of
Christian morality first established in Beyond Good and Evil. The commonly read first essay sees
Nietzsche present an opposition between the master morality and that of the slave . By tracing the
etymological grounds of the German words schlect ( bad ), gut (good), and bose (evil), Nietzsche
forwards the proposition that a distinction between good and bad was born from ... Show more content

Of the three essays, this is probably the one most true to Nietzsche s style of presenting arguments in a
non conforming format. The important part for me of this essay is in Nietzsche s ability to see both
sides of the problem. While critiquing mainly the asceticism of religion, he also presents the opposite
extreme of the problems with science. While Nietzsche does not necessarily reject the ideals of
ascetics, he does highlight the thought that morality and culture are artifacts of mankind. Hence, even
the metaphysical conceptions of right, wrong, and soul are at their core human made conceptions that
must be questioned; not

Network Archutecture
3.1 Network Architecture :
Network architecture is the configuration of an interchanges system. It is a structure for the
determination of a system s physical parts and their practical association and setup, its operational
standards and systems, and information organizations utilized as a part of its operation. Network
Architecture gives the subtle element outline of a system. It is utilized to arrange all the system layers
regulated in sensible structure by portraying each one stage in subtle element. It is likewise dependent
upon the complete working meanings of the conventions. The structural engineering is emphasized in
a circulated processing environment and its unpredictability can t be comprehended without a
structure. Subsequently there is a need to create provisions or systems to design a diagram of a system.
The first use of the expression software architecture planning put it particularly in the arranging period
of a task. While these arrangements had connection to physical items, the term finished not. At the
point when a system of associated gadgets, for example, phones and PCs, was arranged out, the
outcome was a system building design schematic. The real plans were for the most part extremely
fundamental; they might be all the more a rule than else other possibilities. In time, the system
construction modeling schematic started to hold extra material identifying with the system. Particular
physical articles were allocated positions dependent upon the

Manufacturing Output Rises in the Us
An economic revival is here according to an article in The Atlantic titled America s Coming
Manufacturing Revolution . In the author s own words, The combination of lower energy prices,
innovative information technologies, and advances in robotics and materials science are powering a
manufacturing revolution that will reinvigorate the U.S. economy, (Naím, Apr. 21, 2014). Bold words
considering the recent financial crisis and drama in the geopolitical arena, but is there enough
evidence to back his claims of this so called manufacturing revolution ? Several news outlets are
reporting gains in manufacturing operations such as increases in labor and use of factory space. Using
this information, I hope to describe the elements used to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Federal Reserve Bank assessed potential being used at factories, mines and utilities in the U.S.
reached 79.2 percent in March . Comparatively, the national average from 1980 until now is 79.4
percent (Chandra, Apr. 20, 2014). According to an article in Reuters, this is the highest capacity
utilization since June 2008. (Nawaguna, Apr. 16, 2014) Incidentally, as resources are used more
efficiently, manufacturing output will increase. Higher labor costs and allocation of factory space are
excellent indications that manufacturing output has indeed gone up within the United States. However,
I would not consider it a revolution by any means because most of the data suggests this is only a
gradual upward trend and hasn t changed any aspects of business. Although, if this upward trend
continues, we can expect more job openings, greater use of factory space, and more made in the US
products floating up around the markets of the world. Luckily, accountants aren t paid to forecast so
my essay ends here.

Why Baseball Is Important To Me Research Paper
Baseball is a fun, exciting, and cheerful game. I love how I feel at home when I walk onto the field. I
always play the same position, second base,it is my favorite position to play.I love when the ball is hit
to me and I can scoop it up and throw it to first. When we get three outs, we go to bat and I hit pretty
good most of the time. When we start the game, we take the field first.I head out onto the field to play
second base. When we go out there my friends play the bases around me, we talk and communicate to
throw the ball to the right base. When the ball is hit to me, I always take a second to make sure that it is
coming to me.If I catch the ball I throw it to first unless there was already a runner on first then I
throw it to second. When I throw it to second the shortstop gets the ball, tags the base, and throws it to
first so we can get a double play. When we get three outs we go up to bat. We get off the field, coach
gets us together outside the dugout and tells us to hit the ball and we break it down. After we break it
down we go into the dugout and we bat.Cameron my best friend is the first batter, then I am
second.Cameron normally bunts because he is fast and can get to first before they throw him out. With
Cameron at first I go up to bat and coach normally tells me to hit away.I

(One single person can be responsible of 90% of the companie s revenue) So , we have two solutions :
first , to find the best employee and put him in charge of the professional users and large corporate
accounts and use the other 9 employees to cover DIYs . The second solution is to make a cost benefit
analysis to determine if having 9 employees that generate only 10% of the companie s revenue is
profitable (Pareto principle) . So , we think that the company should let go to the DIYs clients and
maybe use this employees to find new bigger customers. On this manner, the company would focuss
only in professional users and large corporate accounts , this would generate much more profit and
reduce cost of unnecessary employees and time.
* Finally , the time zones problem . 40% of the companie s clients are located on a different time zone
so , the customer service is not available at certain time . For this , we think that the best solution is to
change the employees working hours. The employee that will be in charge of Professional users and

accounts needs will be covered . The other 9 employees will continue with a normal schedule from

Disadvantages Of Dairy Milk
Got milk? Dairy cow milk isn t as good for the public we had originally thought. By not drinking
dairy cow milk we can be healthier by switching to other alternative sources of milk. Dairy cows are
being milked all day long showing that animal care should be improved. By reducing our dairy
consumption, we would reduce our need for cows which will also save the environment from water
usage and greenhouse gas emissions. In most cases, dairy milk has always been the go to option in our
fridges since we were children. Even today, dairy milk is the leading milk product, and it accounts for
the majority of milk drank in the United States. However, these days new alternatives have risen such
as soy milk or almond milk to name a few. In fact, a Mintel research study done in 2015 found that
non dairy milk purchases in the United States had increased by 9% just that year (Rowland, 2017).
This showed a drastic change in consumer habits in America because the American milk market had
traditionally been dominated by dairy. To put things in perspective, that same Mintel study found that
almost half, 49%, of Americans drink non dairy milk (US, n.d). This massive increase in recent non
dairy milk consumption reflects a massive increase in accessibility to non dairy milk products. Just ten
years ago access to non dairy products was far more limited than it is today, and the non dairy
products available were undesirable. Because of advances in food science, there are not only more non

The Importance Of Writing In Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner
The importance of writing one s understanding of war sheds consciousness upon the cruelty,
malevolence, and death by ignorance. Reports of cruelty begins with Jarrell s recitation in his poem
Death of the Ball Turret Gunner in which he explicitly connects the death of a young soldier to that of
an aborted child. Though only 5 lines long, using metaphoric language Jarrell is able to imply that
only death can be fermented from the womb of the war. Harboring readers taunt emotions that stick to

themes such as prejudice and interracial relationships. Show Boat takes an enlightened approach to

The scenes and props complimented the attire of the performers, blending together create a
magnificent display. The scenery was realistic enough to afford the viewer an escape into depths of the
show. The setting was beautiful and the structures almost lifelike, excepting the absence of a front
screen door. It seems that almost all plays and television shows I have viewed neglect this detail. The
stage lighting played a key role in the show by setting the mood of the performance during soulful,
pensive songs. In contrast, the lighting proved to be a detriment by overbearing the performance of the
artists, in that one s attention was drawn to the glare of extreme quantities of makeup rather than the
actions of the characters. This was most notable during the final portions of the production.
The entertainers gave their characters genuine life through their gestures, attitude and charm. Even the
way the voices led one to believe that the characters were actually presenting their own thoughts and
ideas, not those of fictional characters. During the play, the voices of the performers were quite
audible, excepting certain musical presentations when the lyrics of the songs were at points nearly
indiscernible. Even with consideration given to this technical glitch, the sound quality was quite
agreeable and the songs enjoyable. The voices of the performers were strong

Folly Of Choice Research Paper
If there are no good choices how much responsibility for the outcome rests with the chooser? In 2005
many people evacuated themselves from the New Orleans area in anticipation of one of history s most
powerful storms, Hurricane Katrina. Others chose not to until a mandatory evacuation notice went out
one day before the storm hit. Despite this order to leave many residents remained in their homes.
Some of these people died. Others lost everything they had except their lives. The public blamed these
people for the folly of their choice. Michael Brown of FEMA was quoted as saying the high death toll
was attributable a lot to people who did not heed the advance warning. (Brown CNN.com 2005) Radio

The question is about who gets to decide. Decide to be stupid or thoughtful; shortsighted or mature. To
decide based on risks or how one is viewed by others. Choice is complex but ultimately we do make
the choices that affect the direction of our days. These decisions are not made in a vacuum. Research
shows that there are many influences that factor into the process. From too little information to too
much information or even the wrong information. Some factors are out of our control, such as
biological responses and others can be mitigated with education, insight, and awareness on our part.
We assume that having more choices is good, chafing at whatever might try to limit them. Yet too
many choices can inhibit our ability to make good choices. Choice overload causes us to delay
decisions, make poor decisions and be less satisfied with what we choose. Our upbringing and the
environmental context of our lives shape our understanding of the options available to us. Our moral
conscience, our sense of responsibility, giving consideration to consequences and the effects on others
guide what options are deemed acceptable. They also sometimes show that the only choices available
can have no good outcomes. Do we make our own choices? Yes, we do, but Once we take into account
the influences...the scope of our choices is much narrower than we have long assumed. (Greenfield

Parliamentary Sovereignty In The UK
During the buildup to the 2016 Brexit referendum those who campaigned to leave the European Union
did so in order to take back control of their nation, including taking back control of parliamentary
sovereignty. Parliamentary sovereignty is one of the fundamental values of the United Kingdom s
constitutional law but European Union law, since the 1972 European Communities Act, trumps that
sovereignty. This transpired due to the United Kingdom becoming a member of the European Union
where EU law takes primacy over national law. With being a member of the European Union it
entailed that the key law making body would be that of the European Commission rather than
Westminster Parliament. Many European Union regulations can bypass Parliament and ... Show more

As human rights become more prevalent the courts could transition into the main law making body in
regards to protecting those rights in common law. Baroness Hale in Jackson v Her Majesty s A G
(2005) states, The courts will treat... any attempt to subvert the rule of law by removing governmental
actions affecting the rights of the individual from all judicial scrutiny. By this Baroness Hale meant
that even though Parliament has sovereignty, the courts will intervene if legislation over steps its
boundaries and affects human rights, as depicted in the Human Rights Act 1998. The limitations to
Parliamentary Sovereignty is not something new but instead has been witnessed throughout the
formation of this modern society. For example, in the North Atlantic Treaty 1949 article 5 states that
members must come to the defense of fellow members, which suggests a forfeiture of sovereignty
over utilizing British forces. Also part of being a member of the World Trade Organization means that
the United Kingdom is subject to global regulation and arbitration of its goods and services, which is
another trade off of sovereignty. The European Communities Act 1972 can be seen as another type of
exchange of sovereignty for the greater good of the country. During the 17th century Parliamentary

The Legend of Zelda
The Legend of Zelda(NES) is a high fantasy action adventure video game series created by Japanese
game designers Takashi Tezuka and Shigeru Miyamoto. It was developed and published by Nintendo.
The main platforms associated with this game include: Game boy, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii, and
the Nintendo Entertainment System. The Legend of Zelda plots centers on a boy named Link whose
goal is to collect the eight fragments of the Triforce of Wisdom in order to rescue Princess Zelda from
the enemy, Ganon. Over time, players tend to become quite skilled if they play The Legend of Zelda

In the Legend of Zelda, the sword less speed running game completely transformed the game. Sword
less speed running is played by gamers who yearn for a challenge it s a normal run, except that you
can t use a sword throughout the game until you encounter, Gannon. Gannon cannot be killed without
a sword, unlike the other enemies in the game who can be killed using a bomb, candles, wands, and
boomerangs. This is the fastest strategy to complete the game, because you are not focused in killing
the enemies, but rather on dashing through levels as fast as possible. The sword less community defied
the instructions of the developers, because the sword was intended to be used throughout the game.
This community believed that the normal rules were too easy and as a result made their own rules to
enhance the challenge and fun aspects of the game. Nevertheless, this community exploited the game
because they found a way to surpass this rule. Yes, the primary objective is to find a weapon but that
necessarily doesn t have to be the sword, this community learned that they can utilize candles, bombs,
and arrows to use against enemies. Players who perform speed runs often record their attempts, these
recordings entertain others, verify the time achieved. To accomplish a high level of play, speed runners

thorough and the whole team at a store is involved. Team leaders at each store receive a salary and a
possible bonus based on EVA (Economic Value Added), a system Whole Foods used to measure
performance. In 2004, 86% of employees said they enjoyed their job and 82% felt empowered to do
their best work at Whole Foods Markets. Whole Foods Markets offered gain sharing programs to
reward team members according to the store s contribution to Whole Foods operating profit
(additional 5 7% of team members wages). Whole Foods encouraged stock ownership through three
programs: A team member stock option plan (based on job performance and length of time employed
at Whole Foods), a team member stock purchase plan (based on purchasing stock at 95% of market
price), and a team member 401 (k) plan. To maintain high customer service all team members are
continuously evaluated and take place in competitions against other Whole Foods Markets in that

Segment Reporting And Information Disclosure
Introduction
Segment reporting is the disaggregation of a reporting entity s financial reports into segments. This
paper investigates whether segment reporting is worthwhile and whether the requirements of the new
segment reporting standard (IFRS 8) have had an impact on the way companies disclose segment
information.
Significance of Segment Reporting
Segment reporting is integral to the process of investment analysis and there is a common agreement
among financial analysts that such information is essential to their work. Previous literature has found
that segment information disclosure can increase security valuation and can make future earnings
better. It is likely for a firm with diversified geographic and/or business operations, ... Show more

However, in 1968 more than 50% of the mergers comprised of firms from different lines of business.
Therefore, financial reporting problems from unrelated business mergers resulted in criticism from
investors and the only solution was segmental disclosure. There is no doubt that segment reporting is a
contentious issue: the nature of the information disclosed seems to be commercially sensitive. The
significance of segment information, however, cannot be denied. Whether or not segmental reporting
is worthwhile is a question (a theoretical issue) that can be resolved logically. For an objective answer,
we should consider the advantages and disadvantages of segment reporting. Consolidated financial
statements offer a comprehensive view of entity s financial performance. Such aggregation process
leads to information loss. It also can t reveal profitable or unprofitable subsidiaries and divisions
which can be considered high risk owing to excessive debt levels can also escape attention. Thus,
segment disclosures enable a more informed assessment of performance and associated risks of an
organization i.e. it is in the best interests of the investors because they use such information to allocate
their resources efficiently. Segment reporting is also a good sign of managerial stewardship. Two
factors which support this are, first, bad investment decisions will be emphasized and secondly,

The Human Condition By Hannah Arendt
Hannah Arendt s most influential work The Human Condition was published in 1958. It makes
distinctions between labor, work and action, between power, violence and strength and between
property and wealth. It is surprising that more than 55 years later the originality and novelty of this
book is still present. Arendt compels the reader to open their eyes and to look at the world and human
affairs in new ways and with a completely different perspective. In her prologue she professes that she
wants us to do nothing more than to think what we are doing. The Human Condition is associated with
Arendt s work on totalitarianism. The Human Condition and her work on totalitarianism work together
to highlight the contemporary human predicament. Arendt s interest in human affairs was due to her
encounter with Nazis which led to her interest and participation in political activities. Hannah Arendt
developed her philosophy of education during her time in the United States. Her philosophy is shaped
by the political turmoil that played out in public schools at that time. Arendt was influenced by many
philosophers. One sees Jasper s influence in The Human Condition in which Arendt developed this
idea of action: public, political behavior based on communication (Snelgrove, 4). Hannah Arendt was
struck by Cal Marx s picture of individuality which was devoted to production and consumption. For
Arendt this is a revealing representation of modern society in which economic concerns have come

But, over the years, the reverse has more often than not be the case in Nigeria. Before and after
independence, the state of Nigeria has always been riddled with the problem of ethnicity, and the civil
service as an institution that is suppose to be transparent and impartial has been affected by this trend,
so much so that the citizenry are beginning to lose faith in the civil service institution due to poor and
ineffective service delivery. Given the above view, this paper intends to ascertain the claim that,
ethnicity has impacted negatively on civil service delivery in Nigeria. In the circumstance effort will
be made to answer the following questions:
(i) What gave rise to ethnicity in the civil service?
(ii) How has it affected the service?
(iii) What concrete measures have been take to solve the problem?
(iv) How could such problems be overcome?

Bathroom Improvement Plan
It s the age old question how do I quickly, easily and cost effectively renovate my bathroom? Well, as
with anything, there are a million ways to do this, ranging from extremely expensive and complicated
to simple, cheap fixes which can transform the feel of your bathroom. We wanted to use this article to
showcase a few of the ways you can remodel your bathroom with small design elements to create a
huge change.
Paint
One of the simplest and most effective change to a bathroom, or any room for that matter, is to cover it
in a fresh coat of paint. This can dramatically change the look and feel of any bathroom and make it
seem like a more inviting and personal space. Dark, warm colors can portray a serene, somber mood
while light and vibrant yellows and blues can create an airy feel. Depending on how bad of shape your
bathroom is before you start your project, you may need to do some touch up work on the walls before
you begin. This may include sanding and drywall, most of which can be done by the weekend
renovator. For large holes or damage, it may be worth hiring a contractor to complete this for you.

are willing to devote a little bit of time to finding them. Also, when you are considering how you are
going to install your new mirror, take the time to consider how your light fixtures will be positioned
and contribute to the overall design of the

The Secret Sharer Symbolism Essay
The novella, The Secret Sharer, by Joseph Conrad contains many great examples of symbolism, strong
and influential thematic elements, and tones of mystery and loneliness. From the beginning of the
story, the narrator uses the setting to explain the situation. The narrator illustrates a picture of a captain
far away from home with the crew that s not appropriately fond of him. This separation gives the
reader an idea of how lonely he is on the ship. The crew dislikes him and feels unsafe around him, this
makes it hard for the captain to build a sense of trust and have strong friendships. The crew is very
hesitant to do what the captain says to do. The captain is properly stressed by his surroundings, the
crew, making his judgment very dicey. The silence in the book is used to create a sense of
suspense. The suspense adds to the idea of the boat being creepy and lonely. The author expects the ...

Near the end of the book, the narrator gives Leggatt his captain s hat as a symbol of respect and
brotherly love at the beginning. Leggat loses the hat after diving into the water in the middle of the
night. The captain sees the hat and uses the hat to see the direction in which the boat was moving. And
now, behold, it was saving the ship, by serving me for a mark to help out the ignorance of my
strangeness. Captain. The hat given to Leggatt by the captain was used to save the ship. This saves the
captain s butt, much like he did for Leggatt earlier in the book. The cabin used for hiding Leggatt
symbolizes the distant relationship that the captain has with his entire crew. The reader can infer that
the narrator spends a lot of time in his cabin because he is able to describe the cabin in explicit detail.
This would make sense because he is separate from his crew in the cabin. this is symbolic of him
being distant from his crew for a long time, not being able to make relationships with his

groups, activities, and religious organizations. From Malden Mills he has provided blankets and
garments for homeless children in the New York area, for relief efforts to Kurdish refugees, displaced

Compare And Contrast Huntington And Fukuyama
Samuel Huntington and Francis Fukuyama
The Berlin Wall was about to fall, the Soviet Union was collapsing, and the world was clamoring for
the consumerist boom in an orgy of free market handful experience, international politics began
travelling out of a Westernized phase, and the relation between the West and the rest began to
crystallize and contest.
Huntington and Fukuyama both provide ground breaking paradigms that explain the complexities of
an embryonic post Cold War world. Their distinct ideologies are a result of their respective false
consciousness which, stems from particular political ideas embodying different social interests.
Huntington peddles a culturalist thesis whilst Fukuyama embodies a framework of universalization of
western liberal democracy in the socio cultural evolution to the end point of human governance.
Fukuyama presented his argument in 1992, and his teacher responded in 1993 with his theory, The
clash of civilizations . Not only do their theories differ from one another, but we see a stark difference
in their writing style as well. Huntington refers to his thesis as a hypothesis, indicating an experiment

societies become successful liberal societies, merely that they end their ideological pretensions of

Kalam Cosmological Argument
Among various theories supporting the existence of God, cosmological arguments are strongest. This
concept suggests that the existence of the universe has reason (Davies 48). Cosmological arguments
consider how the universe came into existence. The kalam cosmological argument supports the theory
that the universe could not have commenced by itself (Davies 49).
Design arguments are weakest when asserting that the existence of God is attributable to
characteristics displayed by the universe. Aquinas concluded that objects without knowledge cannot
have goals unless a higher power is directing them (Davies 76). Davies uses an example of acorns
consistently growing into oak trees to support this statement (76). However, David Hume suggests that
order in the universe could easily be the result of chance (Davies 79). ... Show more content on

Design arguments are less persuasive, because the regularity we experience in the universe could be
due to chance (Davies 79).
There are some weak points in cosmological arguments, however. One major weakness is that there is
no way to prove the existence of the universe has a cause. For example, David Hume believes that if
we are capable of imagining a universe without cause, then it is possible that the universe could have
begun without reason (Davies 50). Another argument states that the universe is infinite, and if that is
the case, then every event has a predecessor. This would mean that there was no beginning of the
universe (Davies 53).
There are few strengths in design arguments with the exception of having an explanation for the
mundane occurrences of life. While I find design arguments intriguing, I cannot believe that inanimate
objects receive instruction from a godly entity. Cosmological arguments are more plausible, as it is not
difficult to accept the theory that the universe came into existence because of

from. Alexie is an Indian who spent his youth facing childhood on an Indian reservation in Spokane
Washington. He discusses how poor his family was and how they, lived on a combination of irregular
paychecks, hope, fear, and government surplus food. (14) He says this to demonstrate that he didn t

Article Caution Candles By Science World
Having knowledge of chemistry is important in life for some good reasons. One reason is protecting
yourself from obesity by buying specific nail polish. Another reason is knowing that candles can hurt
you. Finally you may find through your everyday Methane Camera there is methane rising from
Sweden s lakes. One Reason why having a knowledge of chemistry is important in everyday life is to
know what you are putting on your nails. In the article Problem Polish by Science World, it says, We
don t have a lot of information about how this chemical reacts in the human body, says toxicologist
Johanna Congleton of the Environmental Working Group, one of the study s authors. But experiments
on animals suggest that triphenyl phosphate may contribute to obesity and interfere with reproductive
and development hormones. This quote explains ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the article Caution Candles by Science World, it states that, When Massoudi tested paraffin candles
in a special chamber, he found they emitted chemicals like toluene and benzene. Toluene can affect the
nervous system, and benzene has been linked to cancer. This quote tells you about how candles aren t
very romantic when you wake up with cancer after having your nerves being tampered with, or just
being an idiot and touching the flame.
A third reason why having a knowledge of chemistry is important in everyday life is knowing what
chemicals do such as methane gas and where they come from. In the article Methane Camera by
Science World, it states that, Swedish scientists have built a camera that can see methane, a gas that s
invisible to the naked eye. Methane acts as a powerful greenhouse gas, meaning it traps heat in the
atmosphere and contributes to global climate change. This is important in everyday life because if you
didn t you would have no idea what global warming is and the affects of

Malcolm Gladwell Ten Thousand Hours Analysis
The 10,000 hour rule in Malcolm Gladwell s book Outliers states that ...ten thousand hours of practice
is required to achieve the level of mastery associated with being a world class expert in anything. I
disagree with this statement, but if I were to change it so that it was more agreeable, I would change it
so that it would say, ...to most people, ten thousand hours of practice is required to achieve the
possibility of becoming a world class expert in anything. Evidence of astronauts who became experts
under 10,000 hours, comedians god given natural humor, and evidence of exceptional soccer players
and volleyball players heights all show why Malcolm Gladwell s ten thousand hours isn t completely
true. I added to most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Skyler plays for a volleyball club in Bloomington called Illini Elite, which is considered one of the
best clubs in the state. They have many different teams ranging in skill level, kind of like the english
professional leagues. From the top, there is the Cardinal team, Black team, White team, and then red,
and so on. The top three teams go to florida to play a national tournament to compete in front of many
college coaches in hopes to get noticed. Skyler, who is looking to play college volleyball, really
wanted to go to the national tournament, practiced way more than the other kids in the club, worked
harder, and played better than everyone, but after tryouts, was placed on the red team all because she
was short.. She was so devastated and hurt that she almost quite volleyball completely. Gladwell failed
to mention roadblocks like physical characteristics when making his claim, also giving the reader a
false sense of power and control. He makes everyone think that as long as they work hard and practice
for 10,000 hours, they will become experts, but as we all know, it is impossible to practice getting tall
for 10,000 hours, because it just is not possible. And because Gladwell failed to mention these
unchangeable roadblocks, people like Skyler, who gave everything 110%, paid the price. Overall, I
disagree with Malcolm Gladwell s 10,000 hour rule, but think that it could be corrected so that it is
more accurate. Evidence of exceptional IQ, natural talent, and Height are great examples of why
intellect, and talent help people become experts at what they do without the need of hitting 10,000

My Learning Experience
In the last year, I have moved from New Jersey to New York to Iowa. Moving away from your family
is hard, but can be done by having a strong relationship with people and good friends. Moving
multiple times for the same reason, hockey, can be mentally and physically tough, but the outcome
and experiences that you will encounter will make up for it. Moving is hard but can be overcome and
can be viewed as a learning experience. Being born and raised in New Jersey has impacted my life in
a very special way. From kindergarten through eighth grade, I was in the same school called St. Paul s,
which is located in Princeton. I made some amazing friends during my time in middle school. During
this time, I was playing hockey for a team called The Little Flyers, which was just outside of
Pennsylvania. We were a remarkable team that won many games and championships over the years.
The coach was a former player in the National Hockey League named Stephane Charbonneau. He was
a special coach who had exceptional advice and knowledge of the game. Two days out of the week,
when I did not have team practice, I would have goaltending lesson with a goaltending coach named
George Bosak. George is one of my favorite goalie coaches I have ever worked with. He has so much
knowledge and love for the game. After eighth grade when I graduated from St. Paul s, I had to make
a decision: stay and play high school hockey, go to Buffalo, New York or go to Canton Michigan to
play and develop my skills as

  • 6. The Origin Of Paul Ree By Nietzche In the preface, Nietzsche explains that the conception of this book was born out of his reading of friend Paul Ree s Origin of Moral feelings. A book with which Nietzsche found himself at odds with the assertions of Ree. Nietzsche interpreted Ree s work as denying the universality in the principles of right and wrong. Moreover, Nietzsche saw concurrence with Ree s assertions that different societies moral valuations might be defined by that society s cultural needs and conditions. Nietzsche was also interested in Ree s explanation of the origins of responsibility, morality, punishment, and remorse. Against this understanding of Ree s work, Nietzsche penned three essays which make up the work known as The Genealogy of Morals. These essays are considered some of the more clear and comprehensive writings of Nietzsche. Their intent appears to be a continuation in the critique of Christian morality first established in Beyond Good and Evil. The commonly read first essay sees Nietzsche present an opposition between the master morality and that of the slave . By tracing the etymological grounds of the German words schlect ( bad ), gut (good), and bose (evil), Nietzsche forwards the proposition that a distinction between good and bad was born from ... While Nietzsche does not necessarily reject the ideals of ascetics, he does highlight the thought that morality and culture are artifacts of mankind. By reducing our dairy consumption, we would reduce our need for cows which will also save the environment from water usage and greenhouse gas emissions. In most cases, dairy milk has always been the go to option in our fridges since we were children. Even today, dairy milk is the leading milk product, and it accounts for the majority of milk drank in the United States. However, these days new alternatives have risen such as soy milk or almond milk to name a few. In fact, a Mintel research study done in 2015 found that non dairy milk purchases in the United States had increased by 9% just that year (Rowland, 2017). This showed a drastic change in consumer habits in America because the American milk market had traditionally been dominated by dairy. To put things in perspective, that same Mintel study found that almost half, 49%, of Americans drink non dairy milk (US, n.d). This paper investigates whether segment reporting is worthwhile and whether the requirements of the new segment reporting standard (IFRS 8) have had an impact on the way companies disclose segment information. Significance of Segment Reporting Segment reporting is integral to the process of investment analysis and there is a common agreement among financial analysts that such information is essential to their work. The significance of segment information, however, cannot be denied. Whether or not segmental reporting is worthwhile is a question (a theoretical issue) that can be resolved logically. For an objective answer, we should consider the advantages and disadvantages of segment reporting. Consolidated financial statements offer a comprehensive view of entity s financial performance. • 24. The Human Condition By Hannah Arendt Hannah Arendt s most influential work The Human Condition was published in 1958. It makes distinctions between labor, work and action, between power, violence and strength and between property and wealth. It is surprising that more than 55 years later the originality and novelty of this book is still present. Arendt compels the reader to open their eyes and to look at the world and human affairs in new ways and with a completely different perspective. In her prologue she professes that she wants us to do nothing more than to think what we are doing. The Human Condition is associated with Arendt s work on totalitarianism. The Human Condition and her work on totalitarianism work together to highlight the contemporary human predicament. Arendt s interest in human affairs was due to her encounter with Nazis which led to her interest and participation in political activities. Hannah Arendt developed her philosophy of education during her time in the United States. Her philosophy is shaped by the political turmoil that played out in public schools at that time. Arendt was influenced by many philosophers. One sees Jasper s influence in The Human Condition in which Arendt developed this idea of action: public, political behavior based on communication (Snelgrove, 4). The Secret Sharer Symbolism Essay The novella, The Secret Sharer, by Joseph Conrad contains many great examples of symbolism, strong and influential thematic elements, and tones of mystery and loneliness. From the beginning of the story, the narrator uses the setting to explain the situation. The narrator illustrates a picture of a captain far away from home with the crew that s not appropriately fond of him. This separation gives the reader an idea of how lonely he is on the ship. The crew dislikes him and feels unsafe around him, this makes it hard for the captain to build a sense of trust and have strong friendships. The crew is very hesitant to do what the captain says to do. The captain is properly stressed by his surroundings, the crew, making his judgment very dicey. • 35. Kalam Cosmological Argument Among various theories supporting the existence of God, cosmological arguments are strongest. This concept suggests that the existence of the universe has reason (Davies 48). Cosmological arguments consider how the universe came into existence. The kalam cosmological argument supports the theory that the universe could not have commenced by itself (Davies 49). Design arguments are weakest when asserting that the existence of God is attributable to characteristics displayed by the universe. Aquinas concluded that objects without knowledge cannot have goals unless a higher power is directing them (Davies 76). Davies uses an example of acorns consistently growing into oak trees to support this statement (76). However, David Hume suggests that order in the universe could easily be the result of chance (Davies 79). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Design arguments are less persuasive, because the regularity we experience in the universe could be due to chance (Davies 79). There are some weak points in cosmological arguments, however. One major weakness is that there is no way to prove the existence of the universe has a cause. For example, David Hume believes that if we are capable of imagining a universe without cause, then it is possible that the universe could have begun without reason (Davies 50). Another argument states that the universe is infinite, and if that is the case, then every event has a predecessor. This would mean that there was no beginning of the universe (Davies 53). There are few strengths in design arguments with the exception of having an explanation for the mundane occurrences of life.
