2. Canada Swot Analysis
Following the Second World War, Canada has made various efforts to improve its peacekeeping
reputation, and beginning with them joining the United Nations (UN) after its creation in 1945, they were
mostly successful. However, not all of their efforts have been successful; they have also made some
mistakes along the way. A few examples of Canada s efforts within the last 60 years include the Suez
Crisis in 1956, the United Nations Mission for Rwanda from 1993 to 1996 and United Nations Operation
in Somalia in 1992. One of Canada s most successful peacekeeping missions was the Suez Crisis that
occurred in October 1956. The Suez Crisis was a battle for control of the Suez Canal which was a key

to a civil war (https://www.awm.gov.au/unit/U60680/). In August 1993, the Hutu government of Rwanda
and the RPF had signed the Arusha Accords to create a Hutu Tutsi joint government and weakened Hutus
power in Rwanda, along with the Accord the United Nations had sent in the United Nations Assistance
Mission for Rwanda lead by Canadian General Romeo Dallaire. Everything was going well until April
6th, 1994 when the plane transporting Hutu president Juvénal Habyarimana was shot down and within a
day fighting had begun (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/war/rwanda.htm). Hutu extremists
had taken control of the government and began the genocide, killing anyone that was Tutsi or looked like
a Tutsi. Within only three months around 800,000 people had been murdered
(https://www.awm.gov.au/unit/U60680/). General Dallaire s forces were heavily outnumbered at just 450
soldiers and he immediately requested an additional 5,000 troops but had only received 2,600 which
were then reduced to a mere 500 men. It wasn t until the mainly Tutsi RPF forces overtook the Hutu

3. The Lyrical Novel Border Town by Shen Congwen
A lyrical novel has unique features such that its words are directed to the reader, appealing to the reader s
emotions and feelings, while depicting a story which complements these emotions that is induced upon
the reader. The idea behind a lyrical novel can be said to be a contradiction novels focus on the
explanation of the story plot, while lyrical novels are more about moral decisions, the expression of
themes and how the surroundings can be integrated to show the character s mood. Hence, it can be said
that it is the character s emotions that drives the development of the plot.
Shen Congwen s Border Town can indeed be considered to be such a lyrical novel. Border Town was
depicted to be a dreamlike town, with its citizens enjoying peace generation after generation, like the
flowing water in the river next to the town. The white pagoda stands tall, unwavering, symbolizing
peacefulness and tranquillity. Border Town is widely considered to be a utopian like story, with an
interesting love twist, where two men are after the affections of the lead character.
There are several features that resemble those of a lyrical novel. In the beginning of the story, a passage
depicts the peacefulness of the town by the use of the setting of the town, with objects that are normally
associated with beauty and serenity. Such was seen in, there were peach blossoms there was sure to be a
home, and walls of yellow earth and pitch black tiles...in harmony with the surroundings on every side,

4. Anne Style Of Anne Francis Robbins
Anne Francis Robbins was born in New York City on July 6th, 1921. Anne s early life seemed like it
would not lead to be anything nearly as successful as it did. Early on in her life Anne would acquire the
name Nancy. When Nancy was born her father left her and her mother. Nancy s mother Edith, who was a
young actress, sent Nancy to go live with her aunt and uncle in Maryland. Here she attended a
community school titled Sidwell Friends School. Nancy would regularly travel with her aunt to see her
mother in New York City.
Nancy s mother would go on to marry a very prominent neurosurgeon from Chicago. Nancy would then
move back in with her mother and her new stepfather who adopted her. Nancy now went from
poor/middle class to very wealthy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After being in three films and a couple guest spots, Nancy decided quit acting and focus on raising their
family. They then had another kid, counting Ronald s two other kids, made four in total.
In 1967, Ronald was elected as the governor of California. Nancy immediately took the role as her
beloved state. She was quickly criticized after speaking out about governor s mansion calling it a fire trap
before moving her family to a Sacramento suburb. The press and Ronald s political opponents
recognized her as snobbish, though she had only moved for the safety of her family. Her reputation soon
healed itself after becoming involved in the foster grandparents program. She was than known as a model
first lady.
In 1980 Ronald was elected president of the United States, after a failed campaign in 1976. In 1982 she
championed a drug abuse awareness and education program. She spread the awareness by traveling
throughout the U.S. and other foreign countries. In 1985 the Just Say No campaign took off, but was
criticized by some as simplistic. Though the criticism was still in affect, the National Crusade for a Drug
Free America act was finalized by President Reagan in 1986.
The president s personal protector was said to be Nancy s most important role as the first lady. When

5. A Study On Postpartum Sex Taboo Essay
In an attempt to explain why certain societies have a postpartum sex taboo, anthropologist John Whiting
discovered the statistical association that, Societies with apparently low protein diets tend to have long
postpartum sex taboos (Ember 54). Based off of this association, Whiting went on to theorize that a long
postpartum sex taboo may be an adaptation to tropical environments, particularly where the major food
staples are low in protein (Ember 54). He argued that children in these areas were prone to the protein
deficiency disease called kawashiorkor (Ember 54), so if mothers abstained from sex for a year, therefore
eliminating the possibility of having another child, the first child would be able to nurse longer and
possibly have a lower risk for contracting the disease. In order to test his theory, Whiting sampled 172
societies (Ember 62) and divided them into a table based off of the duration the postpartum sex taboo,
with a long taboo being anything over a year and short being anything under. Additionally, he also
divided the societies into high, medium, and low protein societies, with low surviving on root and tree
crops (Ember 61), medium on cereal crops (Ember 61), and high on hunting, fishing, or herding (Ember
61). Personally, when reading about the theory and analyzing the evidence supporting it, I am accepting
of the theory s proposition, but do not support it entirely, simply because I feel that there should be a bit
more convincing evidence.

7. What Are The Similarities Between The Julius Caesar And...
The last century of the Roman Republic holds two of greatest political alliances in history, the First
Triumvirate, created in 60 BC, and the Second Triumvirate, created in 43 BC. While the circumstances
and actions of these two unions are very different, they tend to have vey similar trends. Three men come
together to increase their political power, take control of the Republic, and fight against a particular
group that opposes them. First, we shall look at the creations of these two alliances, as they seem to have
distinct similarities. The characters that fill these two coalitions, a brilliant politician, a military
commander, and a successful senator, share similar qualities in themselves. Finally, they both end in a
similar fashion, as the two more successful men fight for control of the Roman State. In 60 BC Gaius
Julius Caesar returned to Rome from his governorship of Hispania Ulterior. There he has successfully
campaigned against local tribes and given a triumph. Roman law stated that generals given a triumph had
to stay outside the city until the triumph commenced, but Caesar also wanted to run for the consulship of
59 BC, which he had to be in the city to declare. The Senate, led by Cato, denied his request to run in
absentia, so Caesar gave up his triumph to become a candidate. Caesar had a lot of opposition against
him in the senate, especially from the optimates. The greatest Roman general in 60 BC is Gneaus

11. Analyzing The Gymnastics Scoring System Essay
For this research paper, I will be researching the gymnastics scoring system, the controversy that the
scoring has created over time, and the general history of the sport. Gymnastics started out as just an
exercise program of different moves in Greece. The modernization of gymnastics began in the late
1700s, its been around for about 2,000 years. This is one of the oldest forms of exercise in the world. The
scores are completely different not only because the system changed, but because the level of difficulty
was also higher. In the sport of gymnastics the perfect 10 scoring system was changed the most.
In the very beginning, when gymnastics became a competitive sport the scoring system was based on the
perfect 10 and the Code of Points. The Code of Points is the gymnastics rule book. The Olympic games
in 1976 took place in Montreal. That year the first perfect 10 was awarded. The perfect 10 was a
representation of a flawless routine.
In the 1800s gymnastics was first introduced to the United States by the military. Men s gymnastics
Olympic competition first started in 1896 in Athens, Greece. Men s gymnastics had far more exercises,
including the parallel bars, horizontal bar, pommel horse, vault, and rings.
During the 1900s women finally got to participate in the Olympics. The competition for women s
Olympic gymnastics first began in 1936 in Berlin, Germany. The exercises done were, bars, beam, floor,
and vault. The first world championship took place in 1903.

12 Angry Men is a movie about 12 jurors determining a man s innocence and guilt. A boy is accused of

group of 12 jurors with diverse traits. The movie illustrates the advantages and disadvantages of verdict
making, group progressive phases, headship qualities and models, social influence strategies and
endings, and the foundations of social supremacy.
All through the production, we see two conflicting outlooks of fairness. From 8th Juror and others, as
they link, we see an angle of justice that favors the defendant and that desires most for him to have a fair

to be imprecise and unsolidified during the development of the movie.
Prejudgment is witnessed on numerous levels during the course of the movie. In the most recognizable
sense, the movie deals with cultural bias. While, evidently, the race of the accused is never sure, we do
realize that he is a minority of some class and this hastily converts in to a intense dispute between the
jurors, especially for the 9th Juror who mentions to the defendant as one of

Colonial life is rapidly changing and with it so are cities transforming into cities that make early efforts
in creating a model for future colonial cities. By this I mean, a city with hospitals, police department,

urbanization and are an answer to the problems a new urban city faces. In this era a particular city with a
pivotal citizen would stand out among the rest and provide some key solutions to urban problems. That
city would be Philadelphia, and its adopted son Benjamin Franklin. Philadelphia became a hub for new

17. Muscles Contract When The Central Nervous System
Muscles contract when the central nervous system gets a signal to contract from the brain. In order to
know how muscles contract you have to know what elements create a muscle. The skeletal muscles are
made up of many bundles of muscle fibers, which are long strands of multinucleate cells. The fiber is
formed by the fusion of many cells. The muscle fiber s main components are the myofibrils. The
myofibrils contain sarcomeres, which is the main element responsible for the contraction and relaxation
of the muscle. The contraction and relaxation actually are from the sarcomere shortening and
lengthening. The sarcomere is made of thick filaments made of myosin and thin filaments composed of
actin. These filaments never change in length; in fact, they slide past each other, which then allows the
sarcomere to shorten the muscle to contract. In actual contraction, there is an interaction between myosin
heads and the actin filament. In this interaction, a group of proteins aid in the process. Those proteins are,
troponin and tropomyosin and the proteins actin and myosin that have been mentioned early that are
contractile proteins (Johnson 2013).
In the contraction of the muscle, action potentials are needed. Action potentials travel down the T tubules
of the sarcolemma, in which they are able to activate the release of Ca++ from the sarcoplasmic
reticulum. Then the Ca++ binds to the troponin. This then allows tropomyosin to move since it is
currently in the way of the interaction of

20. The First Attribute Of An Effective Teacher
The first attribute of an effective teacher is awareness. Teachers have to see that each child has a specific
thing they will need. As we learned in class sometimes a band aid doesn t cover it. In middle school I had
a drama teacher who was incredible. Towards the end of the school year I was called the office for
something. I was almost suspended for something I did not do. When I came back to class she could tell I
was visibly upset. She did not give a band aid, she gave me hug. She took me out into the hall and ask
me what happened. I explained the situation and she believed because she was aware of my behavior in
her class and elsewhere. In that moment though I had no special educational need she was aware that I
needed a hug, some tissues and a break for class that day.
The second attribute of an effective teacher is respect. The important thing about this, is that to create a
culture of learning the students and teachers must respect each other. The teacher has to understand each
home culture. The culture of the student practices at home whether that be similar to their own or
different. Each child has a different way of interacting with adults. In some cultures, such as Chinese
culture, looking down and not making eye contact actually means respect for elders. In Deaf culture you

Alcibiades pursues Socrates so that Socrates can nurture him to be the best man he can be (Plato, 218d).
But Alcibiades can only offer Socrates his physical appearance in exchange for Socrates knowledge, to
which Socrates pointed out that it was not a fair trade as Alcibiades wanted gold in exchange for bronze
(Plato, 218e). Next, Alcibiades claims that he can see the Beauty in Socrates, describing him as so
godlike so bright and beautiful, so utterly amazing (Plato, 217a). But Socrates pointed out that if
Alcibiades can see in Socrates a beauty that is really beyond description , it makes Alcibiades remarkable
good looks pale in comparison (Plato, 218d). At that point of time when Alcibiades made the offer, he
does not have self awareness. What Alcibiades saw in Socrates is the ability to make himself better, not
the divine Beauty itself. Here again it shows that Alcibiades did not learn from Socrates nor is he
ascending towards the beautiful because his desire takes precedent over his love for

22. The Message Of Text Messaging Essay
Text messaging turns out to be most prevalent path for youngsters to stay in touch with today and is also
destroying the way we are communicating. Presently we can utilize online networking to get our
messages out to thousands or millions of individuals uncensored. Everything is always showing signs of
change; especially technology. Since change is unavoidable, rather than opposing it, individuals should
figure out how to grasp and adjust to it. With each new innovation comes the obligation of taking care of
it. All technological innovations must be utilized with social and moral obligation. This paper will clarify
the Christian Worldview on the utilization text messaging and how technological innovation is supposed
to be consumed properly.
Text messaging is now the most popular form of daily communication between adults, new figures show.
Text messaging has overtaken speaking on a cellphone and up close and personal contact as the most
utilized strategy for every day correspondence in the middle of loved ones (Grant Meadows 2014). The
first text message was sent on December 3, 1992 by Neil Papworth, a 22 year old engineer from his
personal computer. The text message read Merry Christmas. Omnipoint Communications, the principal
GSM transporter in America, set up the first text messaging service in the United States. Omnipoint not

1a. Study Problem The cost of heart failure in the united states was 37.2 million in 2009 and expected to
rise to 69.7 million by 2030, mainly due to readmissions. Heart Failure readmissions are preventable if
patients have better self management skills. Programs using multidisciplinary teams and in person
communication have shown to lead to fewer HF readmissions. Patients can learn about medication
adherence, sodium intake, and self care skills. (Smith et al., 2015, p. S25)

A day of a common doctor, Charles Bovary, is described in Gustave Flaubert s passage from Madame
Bovary. The author uses great detail to show the reader the typical house call in 1902. Due to this detail,
the author establishes the tones of calmness and intensity. Throughout the passage from Madame Bovary,
the tones established through detail, imagery and figurative language reveal the character of Charles to
the reader. The detail in the beginning of the passage allows the reader to feel a serene and calm tone.

her and to understand the quiet peacefulness of the section. Flaubert also establishes an intense tone in
his passage. When Charles first meets the patient sweating under the blanket and cursing , he sees a large
decanter of brandy that the patient had been drinking to dull the pain and remain strong . The pain was so
overwhelming for the patient that he had to drink to overcome the pain and curse to gain strength. This
provides an intense tone because the reader senses the pain the man is in from the descriptions of the
man, and his surroundings. Charles realizes that the finest thing about her was her eyes, the way that they
draw him in and appear black under the long eyelashes and have a fearless candor to them. The detail
here represents an intensity shown between Charles and Mademoiselle Emma because Charles in drawn

psychological and emotional tension involved in the persona of the woman poet energizes the

difference is in the eyes .In the difference on which Holland retorts the female eye / I overwrites the
disempowering effect of the male gaze traditionally inscribed in lyric poetry. Jackie Kay enforces the
point: What women poets need is to be able to come together on the basis of our differences and non
differences and not on the basis of our similarities (Kay 124).
The dynamic of difference has much relation with our decision to include non British poets who have

28. Jessie Owens Stereotypes
Jessie Owens, who was a famous African American sprinter, fought back against Hitler s racial
stereotypes of Blacks by winning four gold medals and becoming one of the worlds most successful
athletes. Owens challenged Nazi ideology that African Americans were inferior because he used his skill
to win four gold medals, which disproved the idea that African Americans were unsuccessful athletes.
The biggest blow to Nazi ideology about African Americans was that the German crowd treated Jessie
Owens as a hero whereby they chanted and cheered his name whenever he entered the arena, which was
reported to embarrass Hitler. In addition, Andre Kabos who was a Jewish Hungarian fencer almost gave
up his fencing career due to anti Jewish propaganda in Hungary and was pressured by Jewish
organizations to boycott the German games. However, Kabos chose to have one last run and performed
in the 1936 Berlin games where he had his best performance ever and used his Jewish pride to strengthen
his motivation to beat a German fencer and won a Gold medal in fencing. Kabos completely destroyed
the Nazi ideology that Jews were the inferior race because not only did he win a gold medal, but he

where he died, but to his grave he must have died with Jewish pride because he defeated a German right

Seasonal affective disorder is a mood disorder characterized by depression, which occurs around the
same time every year (Partonen, 1998). It is hypothesized that being deficient in vitamin D is a reason for
having seasonal affective disorder. We have researched four different methods of preventing vitamin D
deficiency and seasonal affective disorder. The most used methods of achieving adequate vitamin D
levels were found to be indoor tanning, natural light, light therapy and vitamin D supplementation. This
research is important because it affects the well being and quality of life in every day people. During this
project, we will assess which of the following four methods: indoor tanning, natural light, light therapy,
or vitamin D supplementation is the most effective way to treat seasonal affective disorder.
When looking at seasonal affective disorder, the environment where someone lives greatly affects their
depressive symptoms. As stated earlier, distance from the equator has proven to add to the significance of
people with depression in the winter months. A study was conducted to see the difference in the rate of

30. Women s Rites Of Passage
Introduction
Every culture in the world has rites of passage. Whether it be death and dying, birth or a transition from
puberty to adulthood, every culture has certain rituals they use to christen these changes in social status
within a society. A rite of passage is symbolic in how important a change is in the lives of the people who
experience them. Status changes such as these are very important in the eyes of their culture and the
ceremonies they produce help them retain stability while their society adjust to the changes that are
occurring to the individuals. An interesting rite of passage that can be found in many cultures around the
world is a young girls transition into womanhood. Two of the cultures that one examined this rite in were
the Oglala Sioux of South Dakota, and the Tukuna of the Amazon. With the genocide of the Native
Americans, many of the rituals and ceremonies they use have not been seen by outsiders. Information on
any ceremony can be hard to find. Fortunately, the Oglala Sioux Wichasa Wakhan, holy man, Black Elk
recorded these ceremonies before his death. In the book The Sacred Pipe, Black Elk discusses the seven
sacred rites of the Oglala Sioux, one of which is Ishna Ta Awi Cha Lowan, preparing a young girl for
womanhood. (Black Elk, 1989). In this ceremony, the rite is performed just after the young girls first
menstrual cycle. Black Elk states that this transition is very important to the Oglala Sioux, because this is

Social anxiety disorder is one of the most common mental illnesses in the United States. Chances are you
know somebody who has dealt with this issue (Kessler, etc., 2005) because it causes one third of the
population to experience distress or disability. It can affect quality of life by generating fear of social
situations and resulting in social withdrawal. One of the most central aspects of human life is having
close relationships particularly romantic relationships. Social anxiety is associated with difficulty
forming and maintaining close relationships (Lampe, etc., 2003). Despite the disorder s high prevalence,
its effects on relationships are not yet fully understood. Many ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Overcoming the Barriers At a glance, the research may seem to paint a bleak picture, but there is reason
for optimism. Firstly, not all socially anxious individuals have difficulties in their romantic relationships.
Secondly, the better that relationship scientists and clinical psychologists understand these phenomena,
the clearer the solutions can become; indeed, some are already becoming visible for those who
experience difficulty. A big part of the way social anxiety affects the quality of relationships appears to
be related to trust and support. This gives us a good place to start when we re trying to improve our
relationships (Simpson, 2007). The low levels of trust of socially anxious individuals are linked to the
symptoms and cognitive effects of the disorder itself: Other people are often viewed as overly critical or
even hostile, regardless of any evidence. How much we can trust others depends on how much we can
view them as having our best interests at heart (Simpson, etc., 2007). To combat this and view a romantic
partner as trustworthy, couples need to work together. The way social anxiety affects perceived support is
somewhat complex. Socially anxious people seem to have trouble noticing the support their romantic
partners provide. This comes back to the fact that social anxiety makes it very difficult to view others as
benevolent or as having good intentions (Simpson, 2007). It creates a

Human rights, by definition, are rights which are inherent to every human being, regardless of their
personal identity. This concept of human rights is ideal in theory, but often causes debate among people
and groups who define which rights are inherent differently. In order to alleviate this debate, several
countries represented in the United Nations defined a universal list of human rights. The list includes
concepts of equality, prohibition of slavery, and prohibition of discrimination. However, the debate of
what qualifies as a human right is often still present in legal actions between separate nations or groups,
regardless of the universal list, such as in the case of the Santa Clara Pueblo v Martinez. This case was

Two writers, Felipe Gomez Isa and Tim Murithi, reflect on this topic and claim that, ironic to its purpose,
the drafting of the universal list of human rights was not inclusive to all nations or indigenous groups.
Western societies, such as the United States, and those similar to them were dominant in the drafting
process, creating a list of human rights which accurately reflected the beliefs of their societies, but not
the beliefs of minority nations which had either less of a role or no role in the drafting. Under this
absence of representation for every group or nation, the universal list has proven to be impossible to
accept within societies different from Western culture, such as in the case of the Santa Clara Pueblo. The
Native Americans were considered to be a group excluded from the human rights draft, and therefore,
they did not adopt this list of human rights into their society. Without their own input, the list did not
represent their cultural or moral beliefs, but rather the beliefs of the more powerful societies which
created them. In effect, it would be wrong for the United States court system to force their view of
human rights onto the Native Americans who haven t accepted the universal list as their

2 Tolstoy s Character. Tolstoy was a multi dimensional man. In his long career he had been a teacher and

The literary career of this great writer of the Russian land (as his contemporary Turgenev called him)
may be divided into three parts: the early period of literary apprenticeship (1851 63), the period of the
great novels (1863 77), and the later period of preoccupation with the message of his religious teaching

Captivity is a subject that has been discussed thoroughly by many people. Captivity is the main concept
touched in Daniel Quinn s novel, Ishmael, and Plato s Allegory of the Cave. Plato makes the compelling
argument that people are captives of the world of ignorance. Ishmael complements Plato s allegory by
agreeing that there are two groups of people, that it would be difficult to distinguish the truth, and that
people are being deceived. Plato and Ishmael were both able to indicate that there are two groups of
people. In his allegory, Plato had described a cave with human beings living in it, they cannot move, and
can only see before them..between the fire and the prisoners there is a raised way.. (DiYanni 406). He
said that these people were prisoners who were left to believe that the shadows casted before them were
the real truth. But the second group was people out of the cave. Similarly, Ishmael described that there
were groups of people in the cave and out of it. The world of the Takers is one vast prison, and except for
a handful of Leavers scattered across the world.. (Quinn 251). Ishmael has defined these two groups as
Takers and Leavers. The Takers being those who are chained in the cave believing the world was made
for their conquering shadow. To further explain the difference between people in the cave and people out
of it, Quinn uses modern culture. You call yourselves civilized and all the rest primitive...the people of

children run afoul of their own guidelines.
One answer is to require them to save their allowances in locked boxes. But since this doesn t teach
restraint and you won t always be around to oversee savings deposits, there are more instructive ways to
make the point.
One method is to make it a game with play money. You can also use various piggy banks to stash away

Younger children ages 7 10 shouldn t be held accountable for items like school lunch money as part of

Some experts think parents should not link the allowance money to household chores. Children should be
expected to help out around the house and in the yard because they are members of the family, not
because they are paid.
Yet with children over 8 or 9 years old, giving an allowance doesn t preclude paying them for specific
chores, especially the occasional type that you might otherwise pay outsiders to perform, such as

Some parents complain that giving allowances puts the parents in a position where their kids are often

Gunsmith shops were not like retail shops today. Gunsmith shops were very small buildings typically not

They used gravel, flat stone, clay, or a mixture of these. They used this because of its strong stainability
to fire, and its long life span. The most basic shops had only two rooms. One for metal working and one
for wood working. The metal working room contained the forge and the wood working room had many

40. Ethical Issues In The Eugenics Movement
Beginning in the late 19th century, eugenics was a social and health reform movement aimed at refining
the genetic quality of the human population. Although the apparent goal of the movement was improving
the human race, a desire to preserve white middle and upper class power also existed. This is evident in
the policies implemented, as the unfit were confined to institutions and stringent marriage laws were
established. Even more aggressive measures were applied in the Progressive Era. As immigration
increased and the birthrate of Anglo Americans declined in the 20th century, compulsory sterilization of
the unfit was constructed to combat the threatened merit of society. Fueled by the fear of change, society
s ambiguous sentiments toward the unfit or feebleminded allowed prominent eugenicist to abuse their
power and loosely interpret policy to fit their social constructs. Although many ethical issues can be
connected to the eugenics movement, the protection of freedom and individuality are the most significant
principles at stake. This is best represented in the 1927 Supreme Court case Buck v. Bell. ... Show more

understanding of my obligation to take responsibility for my own actions, a recognition of my
government s authority over me, a belief that the laws of my country are well founded, and a fear of the
consequences of disobeying said laws. Without laws, a society would quickly crumble into disorder and
chaos, unless its entire population is benevolent and selfless. And since my beliefs about human nature
run contrary to the idea that we all want what is best for each other, I don t believe that said chaos can be
avoided without a respected ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Robert Wolff may argue that we have no obligation to obey the law because that would be in conflict
with our duty to retain our moral autonomy. As such, no state has legitimate authority over its subjects.
However, he is unable to convince me that I am obligated to act autonomously. I agree that I am
existentially free and obligated to take responsibility for my own actions, but being fully autonomous is
nothing but a fictional ideal. He states: The moral condition demands that we acknowledge responsibility
and achieve autonomy wherever and whenever possible. I agree, but I maintain that living autonomously
at all times is simply not possible in a world where we live with other people whose desires and freedoms
are in competition with our own. I am positive that there is not one married individual in the world who
can say with confidence that he or she is wholly autonomous. Therefore, I admit that I am not wholly
autonomous and that the Canadian government has legitimate authority over me. An anarchic state, in
which the state has no legitimate authority and therefore cannot enforce its laws, would lead to the war of
all against all , as Hobbes eloquently puts it. However, while I don t believe that we are obligated to act
autonomously at all times, I do believe that we are all entitled to self determination and that we have a
moral obligation to look after the well being of our

42. My Observation Of A Nurturing Parenting Class
The group I observed is a Nurturing Parenting Class which is run by Fairfax County. There are several
classes scheduled to address families with children in different age groups and stages of development, the
class I observed was for families with children aged 5 to 11. There were thirteen parents present for this
closed group event. The Nurturing Parenting Class is held for twelve weeks and this is a closed group.
The meeting is held in a local church, the chairs are set up in a circle to promote group participation. The
classes are held from 5:30 pm to 8:00pm.
In the first class I attended on October 6th, the parents and their children were in separate classes for the
first hour, and then the families had dinner together and the class ended with the families staying together
to practice what they had learned. In the second class I attended on October 13th, the parents and their
children were in separate classes for the duration of the time with the exception of dinner which the
families always come together for. This Nurturing Parenting Class is open to any parents or guardians of
a child or children who are between the ages of 5 and 11, regardless of the parents age, skill level,
religious background, etc. I was put in touch with the Nurturing Parenting facilitator through my
internship supervisor; I was seeking an opportunity to complete one of my learning activities. I emailed
the facilitator and explained the description of my assignment, emphasizing that

43. Grizzly Bear Lodge Mini Case
Grizzly Bear Lodge Mini Case
Located outside of the beautiful Yellowstone Park is the Grizzly Bear Lodge. Owned by Diane and Rudy
Conrad, Grizzly Bear Lodge has 15 rooms that can accommodate up 40 guests with some rooms
specially setup for families. It is a seasonal company, which operates from April to November and the
busy tourist season starting in May and ending in September. An opportunity has surfaced which will
allow Diane and Rudy the ability to expand by purchasing the property next door. The purpose of this
paper is to show how now and in the future Grizzly Bear Lodge can ensure guest satisfaction, what
budget considerations can be taken for the expansion and how market controls can implement their
expansion. Using the bureaucratic control approaches is beneficial for the Grizzly Bear Lodge. These
approaches will outline problems Grizzly Bear Lodge face if Diane and Rudy expand and purchase the
next door property. Allowing Diane and Rudy the ability to consider the pros and cons of the expansion
and also fix problems they currently have.
The first approach is feedforward control, which takes place before operations begin and include
policies, procedures, and rules designed to ensure that planned activities are carried out properly
(Bateman Snell). Feedforward controls help managers by allowing them managers to plan efficiently,
regulate resources, employees, materials and capital. Feedforward identifies problems before occur and
disrupt business. This approach

44. The Disadvantages Of Living At Home
While attending your college classes, some of your classmates may live in a dorm on campus, while
others may commute from home. Yes, we are all trying to achieve the same goal, a diploma, but it is the
struggles that lead up to earning that piece of paper that we must take into consideration. Cost,
opportunities, and distractions all should be considered, and that is why commuting from home would be
the smartest choice when attending college. When discussing cost, it can be a huge difference maker
whether you are choosing to live at home or on campus. When you choose to live on campus, you have
to experience dorm life, pay room and board, and live off of cheap food. Coming from a student who
currently lives at home while attending college, I save so much more money than some of my friends
who live on campus. An advantage of living at home is that I am capable of paying off my student loans
as I go through school because tuition is much cheaper and you get to work as well. You can work
whether you live on campus or at home, but you get to save more money while living at home because
you have less tuition and expenses. Not having to worry about all of the student loan debt after college
takes a lot of stress off of me. While living at home, I also have been able to buy my own car and make
payments on it monthly. I will be able to have it paid off before some people my age are given the
opportunity to purchase one. The money you save while living at home is most definitely

45. Synchronous Machine For A Motor And A Generator
Synchronous Machines Louis Meyer EE 3501 Section 3B November 7, 2014 Table of Contents Abstract
This report contains details from three lab experiments performed using a synchronous machine for both
a motor and a generator. The fundamental principle of a synchronous machine is that the electrical
frequency is related to the mechanical frequency. The first lab performed consisted of doing two different
tests, the open circuit and short circuit tests, respectively. By performing these two basic tests, it can be
determined the armature voltage and current changes drastically with each test. The second lab
performed required to use the synchronous machine as a generator. When acting like a generator, it
becomes necessary to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are two primary synchronous machines, the synchronous generator and the synchronous motor.
Both machines are very useful depending on the application necessary for their use. Depending on the
external conditions, it is required to have an understanding of how the synchronous machine should be
modeled for each use. The synchronous machine is commonly found in industrial settings, clocks, and
power plants. The common factor between these fields is the requirement of running at a constant speed.
The synchronous generators used in power plants are common because it is economically efficient to
keep the generator running at a constant frequency. Depending on the application, the synchronous
machines can be modeled proportionally between the mechanical frequency based on the number of
poles and the frequency of current (see theory). Consequentially, the electrical radian frequency is
determined be the electrical frequency. Modeling a synchronous machine is a simple task, provided the
necessary parameters are known. For this lab the model of the synchronous machine was already
considered. The synchronous machine being used had a rating of 208 V (line to line rms), 60 Hz, and 200
W. It is a 4 pole machine with a synchronous speed of 1800 RPM. The open circuit and short circuit tests
performed in this lab can

46. A Summary Of Remember The Alamo
In the December of 1835, during the Texas Revolution, the Alamo was occupied by two hundred Texan
soldiers located near the present day in San Antonio. The Alamo was a church in the middle of San
Antonio. William Travis and James Bowie were the commanders who were prepared to defend the
Alamo from the Mexicans who wanted it back. Unfortunately, the Texan soldiers were outnumbered to
secure the Alamo from General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna by thousands of his soldiers. The battle
was only for thirteen days and Santa Anna slaughtered everyone except for a few such as a widowed wife
named Susanna Wilkerson Dickinson, her infant daughter Angelina, and the one person who witnessed
the final assault and survived named Joe. For the Texans, the battle of the Alamo is an image of brave
resistance and a rallying cry in their battle for freedom. This urged more Texans to join the military and
lead the following fight to triumph against Mexico. The battle cry Remember the Alamo! within Texas
culture was a symbol of Patriotic sacrifice. If we had known about Remember the Alamo! it s all thanks
to Joe who came out of the battle witnessing all of the hardships of the battle. Joe was an African
American slave who became an Alamo Legend. He was born into a slavery from Kentucky in about
1813. He was also the brother of a well known abolitionist and novelist, William Wells Brown. He was
moved to Missouri and then later to Texas, where he was owned by Colonel William

47. Crime And Punishment Analysis
Bram Stoker in his novel Dracula claims that no one but a woman can help a man when he is in trouble
of the heart. In Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoevsky, the women are more important and far
more interesting than their male counterparts. From Dounia, Pulcheria, Katerina, and Sonia, the female
characters have more impact on the outcome of the novel than the main character Rodya Raskolnikov
has. In fact, one of Rodya s major reasons for committing the murder is to stop his sister Dounia from
having to sell herself to a man to help support the destitute Rodya. Without his sister Dounia, there is the
distinct possibility that Raskolnikov might never have been driven to commit the crime in the first place.

She has one of the greatest influences on the novel due to her position as a mother. She is the cause of her
children s personality, and by begetting Dounia she has an even greater effect on Raskolnikov. Her own
personality and her insistent coddling of her son lead to a man who has no true backbone to deal with
obatacles with well adjusted plans that do not hurt anyone. She made him believe from a young age that
he was extraordinary, so, it is due to her that he feels the need to test whether or not he is truly
extraordinary or just regular. She is also a big part of the reason why Raskolnikov is split between
confessing and staying quiet. He does not want to disappoint his mother but he also does not want to hide
such a big thing from his mother. She also serves as a foil to her son. In her letter to Raskolnikov, she
mentions the word love more times than it is used in the rest of the novel, and in the end, love is her
downfall (Shmoop). Her own son, his hatred and pride, is her true downfall which makes her sign off on
the letter to her son yours til death even more ironic (Dostoevsky

48. Washington Center Life Changing Experience
The Washington Center is truly a life changing experience, because you are not only engage in an
internship, but also you get to explore different parts of your leadership style and learn how to be a
professional in your respective field. I personally saw this experience as a way of finding more about
myself, and the many potentials I have to be a leader and a professional. The academic internship
program helped me clarify my values, challenge my skills, and helped me planned my future goals. My
values were clarified more this summer, because I always had a different way of seen values compared to
the way I rediscovered them here at TWC. Values to me were only based on culture, and we all had
different ones based on the environment we were raised. One of the values I ... Show more content on

Diversity is another value I discovered in my internship site. My internship was at the ISC (International
Student Conferences), and it was interesting to work with people that were not American. The co
workers I worked with were from China, Korea, and Japan. My supervisor was from China, the other
intern was from Korea, and the previous Executive Director was from Japan. I found it fascinating how
different it was to work with them and learn from their culture, compared to what I learned in my
textbooks and courses at FIU. Sometimes, answers are not always in books. The Executive Director,
before he left, was someone that was secluded in his office and did not bother to interact with myself
compared to the rest of the members of the office. Japanese bosses behave differently towards those from
lower level positions, and this was something I learned from one of my courses at FIU. But, I never
thought that the experience was going to be as big of a culture shock as I thought it was. Now I am more
prepared to work with people that may don t like to interact with others because

49. Room 203 By David Gruwell
Richard LaGravenese s film Freedom Writers, released in 2007, touches upon true events experienced by
the students of Ms. Erin Gruwell s class in Room 203. Each of these students has their own story to tell
about the overcoming of life long struggles that they face, and ultimately, through the help of Erin
Gruwell, become friends. Their development as people and their realisation that their lives are not as
different as they first think, blossoms into mutual respect that can be found only in Room 203.
Fundraisers, activities and class discussions help the students understand and respect each other. Erin
Gruwell creates Room 203 as a sanctuary for the students and treats everyone in the class as an equal,

Had they not spoken to real live survivors, they would have never understood the horrors of racism and
what too far is. Jews and blacks were more like animals ... life would be a whole lot better if they were
all dead. That s how a holocaust happens. (2007) Erin Gruwell makes an effort to make them understand
each other and their daily struggles with racism, gangs, eviction and homelessness through the Holocaust
and it s tragic stories, some of which include Anne Frank and the Holocaust Museum. Through their
respect for these people, they gain respect for each other and their own troubles. When the students meet
Miep Gies, they realise even further that they are the heroes of their own lives, and that they should take
charge of their lives and do what they think is right. But even an ordinary secretary or a housewife or a
teenager can, within their own small ways, turn on a small light in a dark room. (2007) Their change in
attitude changes the way they see everyone around them, as they change their views on what is right and
what is wrong. This change in view affects Eva, as she sacrifices her home in order to do what is right.

50. Government Apologies In Canada
In A Sorry State by Mitch Miagawa, Brian Mulroney is quoted as saying, Apologies are the only way to
cleanse the past. There is controversy surrounding whether this quotation can be taken as truth or fiction.
Government apologies have become a very common staple in Canadian society, and in my opinion, have
been drained of their meaning. Mulroney s statement is simply not reflective of the values and beliefs of
majority of Canadians. Words cannot and will not accurately heal and reconcile all affected parties.
Brian Mulroney implies that apologies are the only way to move forward. Referring to his apology for
the Canadian Residential School System on behalf of the Canadian government, Stephen Harper states
that it will be a positive step ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Apologies are for the person or group that is making amends, not for the person or group that was
negatively affected. The apology lifts the weight of burden off of the redressing parties shoulders,
allowing them to suddenly state, Not my problem. The attempt to make amends can are just words
nothing more. Actions speak louder than words and healing is not an easy process, as First Nations
journalist James Sinclair describes in his article, To Own Ourselves, Money, resources, and time may
help, but none of these will ultimately do the job. Referring to the healing process, he continues by
voicing that No apology, no words, and certainly no time in parliament will give healing. Likewise,
apologies cannot re write the past, let alone cleanse the past. It is crucial to not part with history, and to
positively re build trust and relationships, therefor making both ends meet. Reconciliation must take
place by educating other generations. In other words, the government must not just say sorry, they must
be sorry. When discriminatory and prejudiced behaviours take place, it is obvious that apologies are more
of a formality than a genuine expression of regret. Full closure may never be reached, nor will an
apology alleviate pain experienced by those who are negatively

51. Essay On Dominican Republic
For this map project, the country of research is the Dominican Republic located in both the northern and
western hemispheres in the Caribbean. The country is located on the east section of the island of
Hispaniola, with the country of Haiti on the west section. The island of the Hispaniola is the second
largest island of the West Indies and it is 29,418 square miles in total. The Dominican Republic s shores
are dominated by the Caribbean Sea to the south and the Atlantic Ocean to the north, but its nation
capital Santo Domingo is located on the southern portion of the island. The also has close surrounding
neighbors which are Cuba and Puerto Rico. The main reason why the country is in my interest of

Because the country is located directly in the path of the hurricane belt, winds and rain are stronger,
bringing cooler temperatures and causing rainfall that varies from year to year with 53 inches in the east
regions, 82 inches in the northeast, and 17 inches in the west. This is typical for this region, and cold
temperatures are not at all experienced. Due to this particular type of climate, the country has more than
50 percent of agricultural land use, and 40 percent forest area.
Surprisingly the flora and fauna is significantly low in the country. Although there is an abundance of
vast open land, it is only in the areas where precipitation is high that the grasslands are thicker and
heavier. One very common type of plant that grows throughout the island is the Royal palms, but overall
the land has been taken over for permanent agriculture which it occupies two fifths of the land. This is
evident in the areas with fertile soils such as the valleys and low mountain slopes. Just like the plants,
there are very few animal types that inhabit the land. Near the Yaque River and Lake Enriquillo you will
be able to find alligators and flamingos due to the swamp like environment. Within the coral reefs you
can find a small variety of fish such as yellowtail snapper and shellfish. Though there are ducks, doves,
and a variety of other birds they are only seasonal visitors to the island.
