Beginning of Shifts
Mentally and physically prepared for your shift at the start of your shift
time
Communication/Planning for shift/shift change
Communicate with the Recreation Supervisor or Specialist
Communicate with incoming/departing Ops to Create a Plan for your Shift
o What tasks need immediate attention? What will you concentrate on or try to
accomplish for your area today? Are there any additional tasks you can help with?
Ensure First Aid Equipment is stocked/available
Facility Walk Through
Report anything not properly completed – this is a large operation with
several moving parts – reporting helps with consistency

Throughout Shifts
Radios, iPads, and keys are expensive
Use of Radios
All staff should have a radio in case of emergency
Channel 1 (Fike Repeater) is main channel for Fike (3 for Douthit TA)
o In case of power outage, or for ‘talk around’ (TA) channel for point to point
discussions, use channel 6 or 7
o NOTE: Radio channels are not private and may be monitored by the FCC,
other departments on campus, or others on the same frequency. Confidential
information, including personal/patron information or passwords,
should not be shared
Ensure Proper Charge
o Radio must be turned OFF and slid into the charging station

Throughout Shifts
Foster a safe and welcoming environment for patrons
Be aware of potential risk issues or patron/facility emergencies
Be a good teammate – Be diligent with tasks
Communicate, communicate, communicate
Be aware of Department Policies and Procedures
Positive reinforcement whenever possible
o “Thank you for re-racking your weights. I appreciate it!”
