Emergency Department Staffing
In a hospital, the Emergency Department is the most crucial area (Girija Bhat, 2013). With many
challenges, the Emergency Department must operate efficiently in an effort to deliver quality care
in a timely manner while meeting the patient demand based on volume size (Richard Jarvis, 2016).
If there is an unbalanced match with the patient demand with the Emergency Department capacity
and staffing to deliver care within a timely manner, it can reflect on the patient flow and can create
crowding and long throughput times (Richard Jarvis, 2016). As a result, it can lead to poor quality
of care and patient outcomes (Richard Jarvis, 2016). On the other hand, the shortest throughput time
while operating efficiently with the needed staffing can lead to good patient satisfaction and better
outcomes (Richard Jarvis, 2016).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With this goal, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital created a fast track team consisting of a nurse
practitioner, nurse, and a tech for signage at the entrance to reduce throughput time (McHugh, Van
Dyke, McClelland Moss, October 2012). However, this takes way staffing in the Emergency
Department treatment area that can help to reduce additional excessive throughput time.
To improve the Emergency Department patient flow with having sufficient staffing without the
signage fast track team, I will reduce the throughput time, even more using process measurements
of a predictive model, sensitive analysis, and lean six sigma improvement process as follows:
With a Predictive Model, data will be obtained from the electronic health record system for a two
year period to analysis throughput time based on the day and time of arrival to the time discharged.

Arctic Tundra Essay
The tundra is by far the coldest type of biome, as it is known for its low temperatures, little
precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons. Occurring primarily near the Arctic within
the Northern Hemisphere, the soil may be frozen all year up to a few feet, which allows no tree
growth. However, a few animals have adapted to these conditions. These animals include lemmings,
hares, oxen, foxes, wolves, and more. Within the tundrabiomethere are two different types of tundra
biomes, arctic tundra and alpine tundra. Arctic tundra can be found circling the North Pole and
reaching far enough south to reach the coniferous forests of the taiga. The arctic tundra is most

However, the alpine tundra can be found scattered across the world in high altitudes located on

5. Conduct research on one mammal that lives on the tundra and prepare a short essay on your
mammal.
Among the many species that live on the tundra, there is the arctic fox (scientific name alopex
lagopus). Staying within the tundra (both arctic and alpine) biome, the arctic fox can be found
in parts of Canada, Russia, Greenland, Svalbard, and Alaska. Arctic foxes are known for their
small furry bodies that are covered by a thick white or blue gray coat, short pointy ears, and
bushy tails. Their coloring actually allows them to camouflage into the ice, snow, and will
change to a brown/gray during the summer in order to continue camouflaging. This in turn helps
them with their predatory nature. Although arctic foxes are herbivores and will eat vegetables
occasionally, their primary diet is the meat from small mammals such as voles or lemmings.
However, arctic foxes also feed on a variety of birds, eggs, and will sometimes eat fish. During
the winter months when food is scarce, arctic foxes are known to follow polar bears and will feed
off of their leftovers. Unlike other animals in the tundra, they do not

Paper Towns, by John Green, is about a boy named Quentin (Q to his friends) who has spent

discovers that Margo left behind clues, and he is determined to discover the mystery behind
Margo, but the closer Q gets to her the more he discovers that she isn t who he thought she was.
One of the reasons why Q seemed to like Margo so much is because she was different, she was

Why Do Machines Have A Good Thing To Have In Our Society
In perspective three it is discussing how machines are a good thing to have in our society, it is
also discussing how we can become more than we already are which means we are able to enhance
our lives because of our knowledge and machines. The other subjects that the statement are trying to
justify are that we as humans have more possibilities, new ideas and a betterintelligence. I agree
with the idea that we are able to better our society along with our lives since we now have
machines. Now that they are in our lives we are able to accomplish more work at a time, as well as
apply that the technologythat we have and advance it within our medical fields. If we begin to use
technology we will then be able to save more lives because we are now discovering new... Show

Since we have phones to help us communicate with one another we hardly look up from them
anymore. Yes phones can be helpful when we are in a bad situation or have to get information to
someone quickly, but there is a time to stop looking at them. We no longer look at people when
we are speaking to them, but down at our phones which I find as rather rude. There was once a
time before we had phones and computers and we would talk to everyone around us and we
were more lively. Since we now have phones it is a partial reason our writing skills have
decreased, people have a harder time of structure a sentence and using punctuation correctly. Not
only are we falling in grammar, but also in shorting our words, such as instead of writing out the
words be right back we put BRB I have seen children write a sentence like this and I see that as
depressing. I believe this could possibly ruin our society later on in time, by not communicating
with one another we will fall apart by not actually communicating with one another and addressing
the problems around us. This is why I agree with the statement perspective number three

Commercials and Their Propaganda Techniques
Why do commercials use propaganda techniques? Is it to influence our emotions or is it because
they lack actual factual support for their claims? The answer is both. Propaganda techniques are
used by advertisers, salespeople, and politicians because they lack adequate factual support for
their points, so they appeal to our emotions by using propaganda techniques. In the particular
commercial for the Samsung Galaxy smart phones, Name Calling, Plain Folks, and Bandwagon
propaganda techniques are used. It is no secret that smart phone creators have to appeal to average
consumers and get them to jump on board to buy their product. So in a not so surprising way to
gather new customers, Samsung releases a commercial the same day another major... Show more

These new and innovative features discussed were small digs at Apple. There s a growing
majority of consumers who feel as though Apple has hit a plateau in creating innovative smart
phone features, so these small digs can be used as name calling or the use of emotionally loaded
language or negative comment to turn people against a rival product. The primary one is the
advertisement is name calling because although plain folks and bandwagon techniques were used,
the main purpose of the commercial was to criticize a major competitor and their customers in a
mocking way and also to boast about features found in the

Loneliness In Of Mice And Men
Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck portrays loneliness in many ways. A great deal of people are
lonely throughout the whole book. Evidence shows that when our requirement for social
connections isn t met, we fall apart mentally and/or physically. Although there are negative
effects, it is not irregular. A few examples of people that are lonely in Of Mice and Men include,
Candy, Curley s wife, and Crooks. Steinbeck shows loneliness through racism, sexism, and
ageism. Crooks has an extremely valid reason to be lonely. Of Mice and Men takes place during
the depression, which falls in the 1920 s to 1930 s. Crooks is black, and in this time there was
still a mass amount of racism and prejudice. They make him stay in his own room, which is the shed

Three Examples Of Racial Discrimination In The Workplace
When I think of racial discrimination, I automatically include prejudice and stereotyping. I believe
that these go hand in hand and without one the others are irrelevant. Meaning, if we did not have
racial discrimination, prejudice and stereotyping would not exist. This is my personal belief. The
definition of racein our class book is as follows Race typically refers to appearances, such as skin
color, hair type (straight, curly, kinky), skin hue, eye color, stature, body size, nose, eyes, and head
shape (Robinson Wood, 2008). So racial discrimination could be defined as unequal treatment on
the premise of their race or ethnicity (Pager and Shepherd, 2008).
This paper will provide three examples of racial discrimination based on my experience or acts of
racial discrimination I have witnessed. I will begin with racial discrimination within my family,

discrimination based on the hair and personal hygiene of African Americans.
Workplace Because I was a stay at home mom for most of my life, I have not had an opportunity

The Americanization Of Edward Bok And The America I Believe
Since the dawn of American colonization in the early 1600s, the notion of immigrating to America
has long been instilled upon various people as a stimulating opportunity to begin a fresh chapter in
their lives. Even now, this possibility has brought many variations of people to America,
culminating a society that brims with dreams and aspirations to form the diversified nation of
today. When speaking of the current state of immigration, it is easy to conclude that immigration is
heavily discussed from political standpoints. Though this current condition is composed of highly
controversial perspectives, many of the early century viewpoints found in literature genuinely
embrace reality, for these writers were indeed immigrants themselves, thus adding an authoritative
standpoint over immigration. The Americanization of Edward Bok (1921) by Edward Bok and The
America I Believe In by Colin Powell, display the perspectives of two authors, who have lived as
immigrants, through their own personal anecdotes. Both Edward Bok and Colin Powell convey a
sincerely grateful tone and develop the idea of Americanization and the quest for opportunity
through the use of connotative diction in contrast to the Immigration Chart and Political Cartoon
which have a downright concrete and pessimistic tone and supports the idea that immigration
exposes various challenges to incoming immigrants. Throughout majority of the two passages,
Edward Bok and Colin Powell both convey their perspectives

The Death Of Movie Theaters Essay
The Death of Movie Theaters?
How Netflix and Hulu are changing the movie going experience. Netflix and Hulu have become
some of the easiest and most affordable ways for college students to watch television. While these
massive online streaming companies advertise affordability, and vast amount of viewing options,
other major entertainment companies are beginning to take notice. They re being able to release
high quality movie content and original shows that are being able to rival anything that is being
made for theaters, Paul McFerron, Employee of the Branson Meadow s Cinema s, told me last week.
McFerron, having worked at the cinema for over a year now, has noticed a slight decline in the
attendance at the theater. He believes that Netflix has something to do with it.
Netflix s cost per month is around 10 dollars now. A year ago, I believe the cost was 7.99
monthly. What I m trying to say is that if you come to the theater, one ticket alone can cost around
8 dollars. Then you factor in snacks which could bump your ticket it up to 15 dollars. Plus, if the
film is in 3D, then you are looking at a 12 15 dollar ticket, and add however much you want with
concessions. The prices are steep, and I understand why some people are passing on theaters. The
option of being able to stay in the comfort of your own home is very appealing to people right
now. I mean, I myself am a college student, and I sometimes don t have enough money to go to the
movies, so the affordability

The Effect Of Genetic Diversity On Living Things Are The...
The main cause of genetic diversity in living things are the five processes of evolution. These five
processes genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection, speciation, and mutations all affect allele
frequencies within a population in different ways, thus, creating genetic diversity. Population
change is in direct relation to both genetic drift and gene flow. Genetic drift is defined as variation
in the relative frequency of different genotypes in a small population. This variation is caused by
two types of genetic drift also known as the Bottleneck effect and the Founders effect. A Bottleneck
effect is typically caused by a random event such as hunting or a natural disaster which can
significantly reduce a population. Although a population can gain back their original population
size after a Bottleneck effect, their genes have been permanently affected, resulting in much less
genetic variation than that of a population that was not affected by a Bottleneck effect. Examples of
genetic diversity due to a Bottleneck effect include the lack of genetic variation due to intense
hunting in the 1890 s within the Northern elephant seal population compared to the large Southern
elephant seal population. A Founders effect occurs when individuals from a large population
branch out and create a new colony. Due to the small population, the colony is more likely to have
less genetic variation from the original population. An example of a Founders effect is the presence

The Role Of Homosexual Discrimination In The United States
Throughout history, there have been many cases of injustice and discrimination both around the
world and in the United States specifically. There has been oppression of and discrimination against
differing ethnic groups, women, and now, individuals with a different sexual orientation than what
can be seen as normal. While the rights of these groups have improved significantly, discrimination
still occurs. However, discrimination against them is still less rampant than the discrimination
against people who identify as homosexuals and other similar sexual orientations. Since we, as a
society, have made extensive leaps and bounds regarding similar social issues, we can and must

Texas, in which there was a Texas statute outlawing consensual sexual activity between persons of
the same sex (Page 1, Lawrence v. Texas, Justice Kennedy, Majority Opinion). This case was
examined using the lens of both the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth
Amendment. By examining Bowers v. Hardwick (1986), The U.S. Supreme Court decided that the
case should be resolved by determining whether the petitioners were free as adults to engage in the
private conduct in the exercise of their liberty under the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth
Amendment to the Constitution (Page 3, Lawrence v. Texas, Justice Kennedy, Majority Opinion).
When examining sexual crimes, a crime has been committed if both parties are consenting adults.
The court, has a very limited role in the home. As such, if two consenting adults engage in sexual
activity, it should be to their discretion, not the government s. Therefore, adults may choose to enter
upon this relationship in the confines of their homes and their own private lives and still retain their
dignity as free persons. When sexuality finds overt expression in intimate conduct with another
person, the conduct can be but one element in a personal bond that is more enduring. The liberty
protected by the Constitution allows homosexual persons the right to make this choice (Page 6,

Analysis Of The Supervisor s Claims About Jeanette Landis
In order to confirm that the supervisor s claims about Jeanette Landis are true, I would need to
discuss her performance, in regards to her sales, with the sales department or the department that is
in charge of this certain information. Even though Mr. White accuses Jeanette of not reaching her
sales goals, all the facts and data needto be reviewed in order to determine if the information
provided is accurate in terms of her performance. The human resource director cannot assume
anything, approach all situations with caution, and be unbiased when determining the best action to
take. When firing and employee, the human resource manager should be consistent and thorough
when investigating the claims in order to prevent a discrimination lawsuit (Dunn, 1991, p. 26).
Therefore, the sales records of Jeanette Landis need to be reviewed in order to determine if the
allegations present by Mr. White are accurate. When taking with the supervisor of the sales
department, I would wanta copy of Jeanette s sales as well as a few other employees sales records
in order to accurately compare the sales data information. The sales supervisor should give a
timeline for the data, so that I could fully comprehend her sales. For example, the supervisor needs
to give me some insight into how many months the sales records are for; whether it be two months
or six months. This information is critical because Mr. White claims that she has not meet her sales

most fear provoking thing concerning him. In many occasions, Jake play the character of the

This allowed a pilot who trained in one aircraft to virtually be able to fly the other thus reducing

With the advancement of the computer, the need to build mock ups were no more. The 777 was

job applicants and employees on the basis of race, sex, age, handicap, religion, or national origin.
The law prohibits discrimination in hiring, firing, discipline, compensation, and other conditions of
employment. (Reader s Digest, Know Your Rights ,1997). The Civil Rights Actof 1964 is the
backbone of efforts to eliminate employment discrimination. (Glass Ceiling Commission.
Enforcement Techniques , 1993). The Act allows victims of discrimination in the workplace to
privately litigate claims. The Act started the advancement of women and minorities in the
workplace. Until this point women were in the workforce steadily, but not advancing. Minorities
were also present, but almost never in positions of visibility. Women and minorities in senior
management were almost unheard of. Employers are now forced to review and revise policy and
procedures for hiring and promoting within their respective companies. They are now accountable
to the government and liable to the employee in the event of discriminatory behavior.
At this time and since then, several agencies have been organized to enforce the Act and prohibit
discrimination. The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission came into effect to enforce
antidiscrimination laws. The EEOC investigates allegations of bias, negotiates agreements after
charges are filed, and occasionally goes to

Comparison Of Betrayal In The Lion, The Witch And The...
The Betrayal in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the
Witch and the Wardrobe
According the Merriam Webster dictionary, to betray is to deliver to an enemy by treachery , or to
give information about (a person, group, country, etc.) to an enemy . Betrayal is the result of many
factors, including feelings of morality, greed and gluttony, and fear. In The Chronicles of Narnia:
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe , both the original novel and the 2005 movie, betrayal is
exhibited as natural behaviour that can fortify relationships and teach people to forgive. Firstly, The
Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe demonstrates that betrayal is recurrent behaviour that is the

He knows that he will not be awarded with any Turkish Delight, but he still tells that Witch more
information out of habit, therefore betraying his siblings again. He is surprised by the Witch s
threat to the Fox, and his reflexive response is to betray. Similarly, betrayal can occur when
individuals are influenced by strong negative emotions. An example of this is shown when the
Witch betrays Edmund by not giving him what she promised and also causes him to betray his
siblings, all because of a deep fear. She is terrified of losing her throne, so she will do anything
to prevent the prophecy from coming true, including forcing people to betray others. Edmund had
an even greater incentive than Turkish Delight to betray his siblings. He was not on peaceful
terms with Peter, Susan, and Lucy, and his hatred was a large factor in his actions. Even Peter
could see his nasty temper: You ve always liked being beastly to anyone smaller than yourself; we
ve seen that at school before now (46). Due to the number of times that betrayal is portrayed in The
Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the audience is able to see that it can be initiated by a myriad of
factors. Secondly, the aftermath of treachery can include the reinforcement and the development of
relationships. Since forgiveness shows love and compassion, people are brought closer together
than they have been before. For instance, in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the

Dopamine Introverts
Dopamine is a chemical in the brain that helps motivate you for different tasks. In extroverts,
dopamine is much more active rather than in introverts (Granneman). I would classify myself as
more of an introvert. While my family wants me to go try new things with new people, I am
most comfortable with the same couple of people in familiar environments. Big groups of
people frighten me, especially when I am not familiar with the location. Calm, quiet, partially
secluded environments are where I belong, and it is vital to understand that everyone has
different tastes when it comes to being social. My idea of being social is very different from
others, for instance, my parents. In my opinion, being social is spending time with people you
are comfortable being with and enjoy being with. As for my parents, being social is frequently
spending time with a large variety of friends. I spend most of my time with one friend in particular
that I get along really well with. We do everything together; she has practically become a member
of my family. Of course, I have other friends as well, but we mostly just hang out during school.

Recombinant Dna Techniques Essay
In this experiment, individuals were able to use recombinant DNA techniques such as cloning to
alter the DNA of a certain strain of yeast called Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. By the use of cloning,
scientists are able to analyze and compare the genetic material of a specific organism to another. In
this lab, the recombinant DNAtechniques are used to transform AmpS E. Coli to AmpR E. Coli.
This was done by using an insert, a vector, and a host. The insert was S. Cerevisiae genomic
DNA, E. Coli plasmid was the vector, and E. Coli was the host. The technique of gel
electrophoresis was also used to determine whether the DNA was cut or not with restriction
enzymes. Uncut sequences of the DNA were sent to an outside laboratory for sequencing. Then
when the sequencing was complete, computer programs, such as BLAST, were used to determine
whether or not the genomic insert originates from a gene and if the yeast codes for a protein that
could be found within the human genome. Introduction Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, more
commonly known as baker s yeast or brewer s yeast, is very favorable to use in biotechnology
because of the wide range of environmental conditions it could live in. S. Cerevisiae is capable to
live from freezing temperatures to about 55в—¦C, proliferate from 12в—¦C to 40в—¦C, grow
within the pH range of 2.8 8.0, could be dried almost completely and still come back alive with the

The Hero s Journey Theory
So what makes a hero? What must a person have to be considered a hero? Is it his or her
strength, powers, courage, morals, integrity, or knowledge? According to Joseph Campbell, a
hero properly is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than himself or other
than himself. So with the help of Joseph Campbell s Hero s Journey theory, evidence will be given
to prove why the Flashis a hero, and not a cold hearted villain like Captain Cold. To start off we ll
begin with Campbell s first stage of the Hero s Journey. According to his theory, the story must
begin where the hero was once normal. To define normal regarding the Flash, the Flashwould have
had to be someone who existed without any powers, living a regular citizens life, and oblivious
of the adventures to come. So before Barry became known as the Flash, he was first known as
Barry Allen. Barry valued family, justice, and the safety of everyone. He was a regular citizen
who worked for Central City s police department as a Police scientist, too. With the following
being stated, we can conclude Barry was already a hero before his special powers. First, Barry is
working to fight justice as an employee of Central City s police department. Secondly, he enjoys
fighting for justice in general. And lastly, considering Barry s personality and values he isn t
selfish for power, disrespectful, dishonest, and greedy like most villain characters. However,
according to Campbell s Hero s Journey process, Barry

The Function Of A Reflective Commentary On Human Resource...
Introduction The reflective commentary first summaries some topics covered in the class that were
most interesting to me. These topics include Theory X/Theory Y, ethical ideology, strategic
planning, and decision making styles. Then, the commentary explores some lesson learned such as
the importance of different managementconcepts like HR management, four management functions,
and the importance of corporate social responsibility. The lessons learned section also identifies the
results of my self assessment where improvement can be made. Lastly, the reflective commentary
ends with a personal action plan. A board overview of the action plan includes taking a public
speaking course at Mason, taking a leadership course on Lynda.com and getting an internship at
Fannie Mae.
Overview
After working on the reflective blogs, I noticed that many management concepts related to each
other. One of the key concepts I felt was important came from the human relations movement
and was proposed by Douglas McGregor. According to Kinicki and Williams (2017), McGregor
came up with Theory X and Theory Y to describe how manager s attitude can play an essential
role in employee s performance and job satisfaction (p. 51). This theory can help explain how
managers expectations for employees can be partly responsible for high employee turnover rate
since job satisfaction is moderately associated with performance and strongly related to turnover

Smoking Should Be Banned In Public Places
Smoking should be prohibited in public places because it causes pollution, is disrespectful to
others, and is dangerous to others due to secondhand smoke. Smoking in a public place should be
prohibited. Public smoking is a large epidemic in the United States that needs to be stopped.
Smoking is not just dangerous to the person who smokes, but to those who are around them as
well. The children, the adults, everyone can be affected by it.
First, smoking causes different kinds of pollution, like ground and air pollution. The air can
become polluted causing it to become hard to breathe. As well as making . it hard to breathe, it
causes the air to stink and brings secondhand smoke. Smokers also tend to leave their butts on the
ground, just flicking them out of their hand onto the ground. The pollution let off by cigarette
smoke is 10 times more polluted than the exhaust given off by a car. The smoke given off by the
cigarette has finer particulates, which is more dangerous.
Second, people chose not to smoke, they personally do not want to deal with it or to be exposed
to it. It is not fair for them to walk outside after shopping, or even outside of a hospital, and walk
into a cloud of smoke. Many times non smoking hotels smell like smoke. This is disrespectful to
the owners of the places. Not smoking in public shows respect for people s thoughts and beliefs. If
people chose not to smoke or not to have it in their buildings, then we need to respect that and not

The Psychoanalysts of Violence Essay
The film Battle for Algiers can be analyzed thoroughly through Frantz Fanon s and Hannah Arendt s
polar opposite theories on violence. The implication of both theories is represented in the film that
has captured the understanding of both insightful phenomena. Fanon s views on violence are it
unifies individuals into forming a complex unit organism that works together, rinses, in addition it
is presented as an effective and productive mean that support the process of decolonization. In
contract, Arendt s theory detaches the concept of violence from power and emphasizes that the
driven reasons for violence is anti political. Both philosophers present distinctive theories upon the
use of violence; Fanon elucidates his philosophy on... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hannah Arendt was regarded as one of significant and persuasive political philosophers of the 20th
century. While as her theories contradict fanon s, her philosophical theory apposes the
naturalization acts of violence, entailing its human nature. Arendt (1969) claims that a society that
acts on violence is a society that lacks power; in her view, force (violence) and power should not
be regarded as one in the practice of politics (1969). In addition, Arendt explains violent revolutions
are destructive and therefore its results are uncontrollable and has negative outcomes for
humankind. In views of change, revolution must accomplish core changes in process of
decolonization that is logical and relating. The fundamental opposition for resorting to violence as
a mean to produce change is the neutralization of violent revolutions as an effect of resorting to it
as a strategic procedure to claim change and justice, this results in preparing the society to act and
be totalitarianism. Moreover, the knowledge and belief that man knows his specified goal is
ultimately good is resulted by his ideology that categorizes it as good, owing to it s part of human
nature, or god s will; Arendt theory believes that religious extremist and violent revolutionaries
contribute to justify immoral procedures to claim their ends (1969). The only real revolution that

Ritual Purification In Shinto Religion
Ritual purification is a part of various religions and is the most basic practice of life in the
Shinto religion for those who are followers. the main focus for the practice of purification is to
get rid of the impurities within the body and soul of the individual regarding anything that the
person does for each day , and specifically before they practice daily devotions. The negativity
that one is attempting to dispose of is not the same as physical impurity, for example, either
garbage or dirt. Harae or Harai is one of four vital components included in Shintoreligion. The main
focus of the ritualis to get rid of pollution, sins the person has committed, and any uncleanliness.

of purification and cleanliness. The most important ritual is misogi which is quite similar to
Harae which of course is consisting of purification through water and can take place where water
is present. Just like Harae a priest will wave a stick with streamers but he waves the stick over a
shrine and then waves over the individual who are apart of the ceremony. The priest gets rid of all
bad and negative impurities affecting the individual to give them a property and balance. In this
tradition the cleansing of impurities is like a basic necessity of life for the Shinto. The individuals
who are partaking in the ceremony wash their hands and face before coming in contact with the
shrine. The priest who is holding the ceremony cleansing the path that leads to the shrine so no
impurities reach the altar when they reach it. Then the worshipers must make an offering of fresh

Communism
Throughout history, countries have developed economic systems according to their political
ideology. The nation s ideology directly influences and becomes entrenched in economic decisions
of the state. Whether a country develops a free market, a mixed, or a command economy, the
foundation of the system lies in how to people choose to use and distribute resources. Free market
and capitalist ideals emerged in reaction to the mercantilist policies of the Colonial era (1700s). The
Colonial era, a period (dominated by government regulation and control over imports) where
European powers set out to extend their influence in the New World (with the intent to extract
riches), was the epicenter for capitalism. These European powers sought out colonies... Show more

As Europe industrialized, revolutionizing the way of life in many countries like UK, there were
adverse consequences. Though the manufacturing and availability of jobs increased prosperity and
lifted spirits, living conditions were abhorrent and inequality (of wealth) was rampant As free
market capitalism began to show its flaws, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote their communist
manifesto in response to the living and working conditions of the working class in England.
Communism calls for the government to make economic decisions and direct production (through
quotas and plans), no individual ownership (all state owned), total equality, and for the working
class, the Proletariat, to unite against the Bourgeoisie (upper class). In a command economy, there
are two main sectors in the class system: the Bourgeoisie, the wealthy, and the Proletariat, the
working class, who have a hostile and antagonistic relationship. In contrast to Smith s free market
ideology, Marx is anti class, believes in government control of the economy, that the division of
labor is degrading and dehumanizing (one loses individuality), and that competition must be
abolished. This complete reversal in economic ideology, towards the opposite spectrum eventually
failed in most communist regimes like the Soviet Union. Only one nation continues to exist as a
communist state, which is North Korea. Thus, countries with command economies suffer in the
global market, incapable of innovating or incentivizing their people to

Media And Schizophrenia Case Study
In today s ever growing communication age, there is one thing that remains constant through it
all: the media. This is not to say that media, itself, is not evolving as that would be untrue;
however, media remains the vessel in which the world stays connected. Humans are the creators
of media and with that comes their natural biases and opinions. One bias that really showcases
itself is the current one against mental illnesses. During a 2010 study, newspaper articles were
collected from various top agencies and analyzed for the usage of the word Schizophrenia . Of the
articles that were collected and analyzed, 3.5% referenced Schizophrenia (Vahabzadeh et al pg.

Stigmas have the same basic start as a stereotype, a couple of cases becomes the generalization
for an entire group or status. Stigmas go one step further and become a paradigm that the general
public may live under. As Dockery expressed when he stated stigmas ...can be considered a
multifaceted concept involving: labelling; negative stereotyping; separation of them from us ;
status loss and discrimination, leading to multiple inequalities (Dockery et al pg. 613). Add the
diagnosed people and the non diagnosed to the stigma equation and a cyclic nature reveals itself.
For the purpose of relating this to what has been said, the beginning of the stigmatization process
will be the media. The media portrays the diagnosed as deranged murderers because ...mental illness
have been shown to strongly attract readers attention... (Vahabzadeh et al pg. 440). This projection
of the diagnosed translates to a limited amount of information that the public has on the illness. In
order to fill in the void, the public takes the information that it has, the negative portrayals, and
accepts them. This then becomes the stigma on Schizophrenia. That negative status is now placed
on the diagnosed. The diagnosed then lose some of the credibility and begin to have more
inequalities. The people who experience said inequalities are now matching the description of what
the stigma says. They accept and adopt the

Radical Feminism In America And Great Britain
The main cause behind feminism in America and Great Britain was discrimination against women.
In the United States, more educated women were becoming employed and were dissatisfied with
their employment conditions. When the Equal Employment Opportunities Commission refused to
enforce the sexual provisions of the Equal Rights Amendment, the National Organization (for)
Women gained its foundation. The creation of NOW gave way to other equal rights groups. In
Great Britain, after The Women s Advisory Committee managed to pass a charter through the
Trades Union Congress, they began making more demands. Demands such as equal pay, better
employment opportunities, better apprenticeships and training facilities, retraining for older
women, and health and welfare facilities for women at work. (389). Equal pay was not as insisted

In America, women completely rejected men, not allowing male friends or allies. Radical feminism
in America had no simple set goals or aims, but rather was united over its dissatisfaction of the
patriarchy. They differed from equal rights feminists by concentrating on the traditional female
concerns of love, sex, and children. (393). In this society, the idea of breaking apart the family
structure was very radical. Some women believed that if they ended the oppression of women by
men, then all oppression would be destroyed. This idea differed in Great Britain where they did not
have an anti male sentiment. Although, radical feminism in Great Britain was influence by
America. In both cases, feminism grew from the revolutionary left. It was transported to London
from American women travelers and radical journals. Feminists in Great Britain aligned themselves

would skeer me looks just like a snake, an you knows how skeered Ah is of snakes. (Hurston 1)
Sykes still isn t finished with his tormenting, as he brings home a rattlesnake. This is where
irony strikes, as the same snake he used to torment Delia bites him and inevitably kills him. In
The Gilded Six Bits , the theme of irony is present as well. With Joe s constant praise of
Slemmons, this ironically contributed to Missy s betrayal as he constantly peaked her interest
about him. Joe and Missy May dont realize that they possess something far more valuable than
gold. They have each other s love, which proves to be a very strong thing nonetheless. Missy
May almost throws this away for a gold coin, to which she finds out that it is just a gold plated
half dollar. She took it into her hands trembling and saw that it was no gold piece. It was a gilded
half dollar. (Hurston 734) This experience serves as a precious lesson to them both: all that glitters

Face To Face Communication In So You Ve Been Publicly Shamed
Technological advances have undoubtedly changed the way that humans communicate with each
other, but is it leading the old fashioned method of face to face communication towards
deterioration? Popularity in the usage of cyber communication has most definitely expanded,
coming with its own advantages and disadvantages. The argument that cyber communicationis
possibly replacing face to face communication is argued, while many fail to realize that face to face
communication has its own disadvantages as well. Both these methods of communication function
in conjunction with one another, consequently, one cannot replace the other. Jon Ronson is able to
provide strong examples of the disadvantages of cyber communication in his novel So You ve Been
Publicly Shamed, while failing to note that there are also definite advantages to cyber
communication, as well as positive and negative aspects to face to face communication.
Cyber communication has the ability to completely deteriorate people s reputations, as shown in
Jon Ronson s novel So You ve Been Publicly Shamed. Cyber communication, more specifically,
social media, has internet trolls hiding behind screens that voluntarily slander others. Then there
are everyday people, such as Justine Sacco, that choose to say the wrong thing and find their lives
ruined and jobs lost. Jon Ronson poses an interesting question in regards to the slander that Sacco
received after posting her tweets, what was it for: just some social media drama?

The Critique Of Kenneth Branagh s The Hamlet
In 1996, British actor and director, Kenneth Branagh took on the production of the film The
Hamlet. It is notable that Branagh took into consideration the play s intricate detail as he built
around the film. In his directing effort, he made both plausible and not so brilliant decisions too.
It is commendable to a given extent that Branagh maintained Shakespearean language throughout
the film. However, he did away with a significant part of the play s ambiguous quality by making
plain, mindful decisions on aspects such as setting, characterization and others in the film.
Branagh put it in the Napoleonic era rather than the Middle Ages according to Shakespeare s
original version. BRANAGH S DIRECTOR CONCEPT EMPLOYED STRATEGIES AIMED AT
CREATING A BLOWN UP DRAMATIC VISION OF HAMLET
. Several cinematic basics, such as
the film s melodic make, compliment Branagh s complex vision of the film and intrigue the
audience.
Several of Branagh s directorial implementations in Hamlet sync well to make the film both
enchanting and witty. His choice to slightly modernize the setting creates a more pompous set plus
costume design that becomes an aesthetic quality to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These frequent visualizations create even stronger assertions about Hamlet; which assertions
Branagh risked to include within his version of the film. For example, around the opening of the
film, when Hamlet follows the Ghost into the woods and he spills the details of his demise to
Hamlet, a visualized thought montage appears. The Ghost recounts his death at the hands of
Claudius and as the Ghost narrates, a montage of the events plays. This montage gives the audience
a comprehensible illustration of the Ghost s story as Hamlet draws images of it in his own mind.
Instead of showing the visualization of either Hamlet or the Ghost, Branagh shows the true
moments for the audience to critic the characters on their

Examples Of Sexism In Whale Rider
Whale Rider Paragraph 2 Jonathon Hogg A major theme in the film Whale Rider (produced in
2004 and directed by Niki Caro) is Bullying mainly in the form of sexism. Throughout the film
Koro (Paikea s Grandfather), is sexist towards Paikea (Main Character and Heroine) and
children of the male gender. The theme is relevant to society today because there will always be
sexist people wherever you go. The director (Caro) shows that Koro is sexist by subjecting male
and female roles and making sure that the traditions of the Maori stay the same. Paikea is unable
to do the traditional dance of the Maori or use the Taha because it was considered a Male Role
within the tribe and Males weren t supposed to cry because it would make them seem weak

How Did Emily Dickinson Influence Her Work
Emily Dickinson is currently considered one of the most famous American authors, despite the
fact that her work was not well known in her own day. Emily was notable to American Literature,
and she sealed the road for several of today s poets. She was a creative poet, determined writer, and
an extreme introvert who never gave up. Emily Dickinsonwas born on December 10, 1830 and
passed away at age 55 on May 15, 1886. ( Emily Famous). Having grown up in poverty, it
influenced her poems greatly. Emily Dickinson s father, Edward Dickinson, was a lawyer, a
member of Congress, and the treasurer of Amherst College ( Emily Encyclopedia). Dickinson s
mother, Emily Norcross Dickinson was from Monson ( Emily Famous). Dickinson was the middle

It is very popular because she uses this metaphor through a bird, showing that even in the hard
times we should still have hope ( Emily Study). Theres many reasons why this poem is so
popular, one being the way she puts commas around the word hope (O Connor). Hope is the
Thing with Feathers is also a very positive poem, and many people feel as if it speaks right to the
heart (O Connor). There is a lot of reviews saying that it just has a pleasant type of message (O
Connor). Many people also find it a very good description of hope, and many people love it
because they feel as if they can relate to it (O Connor). This poem was published in 1891 in the
2nd collection of Dickinson s work, Poems by Emily Dickinson, second series ( Hope
Encyclopedia). My opinion of Hope is the Thing with Feathers would have to be that she was
very clear with her message. Not only do I feel that I can relate to it, I feel as if many other
people can relate to it. That poems main point is about hope and how you should believe in it
whenever things are not looking up for you, and I think that is very true. Many times people get
discouraged and think that there is nothing left but there is, and it is hope. I highly agree with
Dickinson in her poem Hope is the Thing with Feathers . Other people who have written reviews
on the poem say that it gives them chills, and that they adored this poem

Part Indigenous Speeches Essay
Assignment 2 Part A: Indigenous speeches research essay
The Apology Prime Minister Kevin Rudd
On the 13th February 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, offered an Apology to the Aboriginal
and Torres Strait Islander People by way of a speech that he presented to the 42nd parliament of
the Commonwealth. His speech outlined the past oppression of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait
Islander people who had to endure pain and suffering. Children were forcibly removed from their
families.
Mr Rudd opened his speech in parliament with the words We honour the Indigenous peoples of
this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history (2012). It is true that Mr Rudd took the
first step in reconciliation however he has not progressed as far as hoped. There has been little
compensation made to the stolen generation. Was the apology a sincere one? Perhaps? His
intentions were clear and precise. Rudd had said he would apologize and he did. He did not say he
would compensate the Indigenous Australians in any form which would have gone a long way to
begin the healing process. Especially due to the inconceivable horrors that were enacted against the
Stolen Generations.
Kevin Rudd s speech was eloquent and lengthy (2012). He continued to make promises to the
Indigenous Australians saying they, the government, were determined to close the gap, embrace
new solutions to old issues and form a partnership between Indigenous and non Indigenous
Australians.
Mr Rudd further explains the

Uses of the Conventions of the Gothic Story in The Yellow...
In the eighteenth century, Gothic story was an extremely popular form of literature, and it has been
a major genre since then. The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and A Rose for Emily
by William Faulkner are both Gothic horror stories consisting madness and suspense. The Gothic
horror story carries particular conventions in its setting, theme, point of view, and characterisation.
Both Gilman and Faulkner follow the conventions of the Gothic horror story to create feelings of
gloom, mystery, and suspense that are essential for compelling stories. Goth is a term that
originally referred to a northern Germanic tribe who ransacked southern Europe in the fourth
century A.D. Because the Goth was associated with the fall of... Show more content on

Setting in the Gothic horror story is important as it creates tone and atmosphere in the story. One
of the conventional settings in the Gothic horror story is often in a remote locale with an
isolated architecture. Gilman follows the conventions of the Gothic story by setting up the scene
as the narrator of The Yellow Wallpaper describes the house and feels its ground has fallen into a
slight state of disrepair. There were greenhouses, too, but they are all broken now. There was
some legal trouble, I believe, something about the heirs and co heirs; anyhow, the place has been
empty for years. The spoils my ghostliness, I am afraid, but I don t care #65293;there is something
strange about the house #65293;I can feel it (Gilman 76). The narrator also complains about the
room that she lives in, especially the yellow wallpaper. She mentions about the wallpaper several
times, saying that when you follow the lame uncertain curves for a little distance they suddenly
commit suicide #65293;plunge off at outrageous angels, destroy themselves in unheard of
contradictions (Gilman 77). Gilman creates the setting that is superficially tranquility but actually a
place of confinement. In The rose for Emily, Faulkner uses a big, giant house to have the Grierson
family isolated from other town people. A Rose for Emily is set in Faulkner s mythical country,
Yoknapatawpha, Mississippi. The narrator describes the house

Stereotypes Of Women In The Nursing Field Essay
The nursing field has had much influence from female nurses. Therefore, this has made them
the face of nursing. With that being said many times men are often overlooked in the field, but
there are additional reasons why they are overlooked. As of August 2012, men in the nursing
field made up about only seven percent of the professional workforce in the United States of
America. In the early 20th century men were allowed in nursing schools, but had to pass certain
criteria that women did not have to go through. A law was finally put into place that did not
allow for this type of discrimination to continue against men. As stated in the following, With the
passage of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, it was no longer possible for
educational programs to discriminate against any person on the basis of sex (Stokowski 2). Many
may think that the nursing field is a less masculine career because it may not be a muscle, blue
collar job, but this doesn t make the manless than what he is. Masculine professions are often
viewed as architects, farmers, businessmen, and even doctors. Nurses may face many stereotypes,
but malenurses are more susceptible to these stereotypes in the nursing field. Therefore, males are
less likely to choose the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This perception stemmed from the Lady with the Lamp, known as Florence Nightingale. How
could have this one person influenced such a big movement within the world? Well, the answer to
that would be that Nightingale was a brilliant woman that reshaped the nursing world. Florence
Nightingale is said to be the mother of modern nursing because she introduced many rules like
sterilization in the practice. So, she has had much influence on how nursing should be. An example
of people describing the way she felt about men in the nursing field was cited by Tom O Connor in
his article, Men choosing Nursing: Negotiating a Masculine Identity in a Feminine

  • 2. Emergency Department Staffing In a hospital, the Emergency Department is the most crucial area (Girija Bhat, 2013). With many challenges, the Emergency Department must operate efficiently in an effort to deliver quality care in a timely manner while meeting the patient demand based on volume size (Richard Jarvis, 2016). If there is an unbalanced match with the patient demand with the Emergency Department capacity and staffing to deliver care within a timely manner, it can reflect on the patient flow and can create crowding and long throughput times (Richard Jarvis, 2016). As a result, it can lead to poor quality of care and patient outcomes (Richard Jarvis, 2016). On the other hand, the shortest throughput time while operating efficiently with the needed staffing can lead to good patient satisfaction and better outcomes (Richard Jarvis, 2016).... With this goal, Thomas Jefferson University Hospital created a fast track team consisting of a nurse practitioner, nurse, and a tech for signage at the entrance to reduce throughput time (McHugh, Van Dyke, McClelland Moss, October 2012). However, this takes way staffing in the Emergency Department treatment area that can help to reduce additional excessive throughput time. To improve the Emergency Department patient flow with having sufficient staffing without the signage fast track team, I will reduce the throughput time, even more using process measurements of a predictive model, sensitive analysis, and lean six sigma improvement process as follows: With a Predictive Model, data will be obtained from the electronic health record system for a two year period to analysis throughput time based on the day and time of arrival to the time discharged. • 3. Arctic Tundra Essay The tundra is by far the coldest type of biome, as it is known for its low temperatures, little precipitation, poor nutrients, and short growing seasons. Occurring primarily near the Arctic within the Northern Hemisphere, the soil may be frozen all year up to a few feet, which allows no tree growth. However, a few animals have adapted to these conditions. These animals include lemmings, hares, oxen, foxes, wolves, and more. Within the tundrabiomethere are two different types of tundra biomes, arctic tundra and alpine tundra. Arctic tundra can be found circling the North Pole and reaching far enough south to reach the coniferous forests of the taiga. The arctic tundra is most known for its cold, dessert like conditions. Conduct research on one mammal that lives on the tundra and prepare a short essay on your mammal. Among the many species that live on the tundra, there is the arctic fox (scientific name alopex lagopus). Staying within the tundra (both arctic and alpine) biome, the arctic fox can be found in parts of Canada, Russia, Greenland, Svalbard, and Alaska. Arctic foxes are known for their small furry bodies that are covered by a thick white or blue gray coat, short pointy ears, and bushy tails. Their coloring actually allows them to camouflage into the ice, snow, and will change to a brown/gray during the summer in order to continue camouflaging. This in turn helps them with their predatory nature. Although arctic foxes are herbivores and will eat vegetables occasionally, their primary diet is the meat from small mammals such as voles or lemmings. However, arctic foxes also feed on a variety of birds, eggs, and will sometimes eat fish. During the winter months when food is scarce, arctic foxes are known to follow polar bears and will feed off of their leftovers. Unlike other animals in the tundra, they do not ... • 5. Why Do Machines Have A Good Thing To Have In Our Society In perspective three it is discussing how machines are a good thing to have in our society, it is also discussing how we can become more than we already are which means we are able to enhance our lives because of our knowledge and machines. The other subjects that the statement are trying to justify are that we as humans have more possibilities, new ideas and a betterintelligence. I agree with the idea that we are able to better our society along with our lives since we now have machines. Now that they are in our lives we are able to accomplish more work at a time, as well as apply that the technologythat we have and advance it within our medical fields. If we begin to use technology we will then be able to save more lives because we are now discovering new... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since we have phones to help us communicate with one another we hardly look up from them anymore. Yes phones can be helpful when we are in a bad situation or have to get information to someone quickly, but there is a time to stop looking at them. We no longer look at people when we are speaking to them, but down at our phones which I find as rather rude. There was once a time before we had phones and computers and we would talk to everyone around us and we were more lively. Since we now have phones it is a partial reason our writing skills have decreased, people have a harder time of structure a sentence and using punctuation correctly. Not only are we falling in grammar, but also in shorting our words, such as instead of writing out the words be right back we put BRB I have seen children write a sentence like this and I see that as depressing. I believe this could possibly ruin our society later on in time, by not communicating with one another we will fall apart by not actually communicating with one another and addressing the problems around us. This is why I agree with the statement perspective number three ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Commercials and Their Propaganda Techniques Why do commercials use propaganda techniques? Is it to influence our emotions or is it because they lack actual factual support for their claims? The answer is both. Propaganda techniques are used by advertisers, salespeople, and politicians because they lack adequate factual support for their points, so they appeal to our emotions by using propaganda techniques. In the particular commercial for the Samsung Galaxy smart phones, Name Calling, Plain Folks, and Bandwagon propaganda techniques are used. It is no secret that smart phone creators have to appeal to average consumers and get them to jump on board to buy their product. So in a not so surprising way to gather new customers, Samsung releases a commercial the same day another major... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Evidence shows that when our requirement for social connections isn t met, we fall apart mentally and/or physically. Although there are negative effects, it is not irregular. A few examples of people that are lonely in Of Mice and Men include, Candy, Curley s wife, and Crooks. Steinbeck shows loneliness through racism, sexism, and ageism. Crooks has an extremely valid reason to be lonely. Of Mice and Men takes place during the depression, which falls in the 1920 s to 1930 s. I believe that these go hand in hand and without one the others are irrelevant. Meaning, if we did not have racial discrimination, prejudice and stereotyping would not exist. This is my personal belief. The definition of racein our class book is as follows Race typically refers to appearances, such as skin color, hair type (straight, curly, kinky), skin hue, eye color, stature, body size, nose, eyes, and head shape (Robinson Wood, 2008). So racial discrimination could be defined as unequal treatment on the premise of their race or ethnicity (Pager and Shepherd, 2008). • 11. The Americanization Of Edward Bok And The America I Believe Since the dawn of American colonization in the early 1600s, the notion of immigrating to America has long been instilled upon various people as a stimulating opportunity to begin a fresh chapter in their lives. Even now, this possibility has brought many variations of people to America, culminating a society that brims with dreams and aspirations to form the diversified nation of today. When speaking of the current state of immigration, it is easy to conclude that immigration is heavily discussed from political standpoints. Though this current condition is composed of highly controversial perspectives, many of the early century viewpoints found in literature genuinely embrace reality, for these writers were indeed immigrants themselves, thus adding an authoritative standpoint over immigration. The Americanization of Edward Bok (1921) by Edward Bok and The America I Believe In by Colin Powell, display the perspectives of two authors, who have lived as immigrants, through their own personal anecdotes. Both Edward Bok and Colin Powell convey a sincerely grateful tone and develop the idea of Americanization and the quest for opportunity through the use of connotative diction in contrast to the Immigration Chart and Political Cartoon which have a downright concrete and pessimistic tone and supports the idea that immigration exposes various challenges to incoming immigrants. Throughout majority of the two passages, Edward Bok and Colin Powell both convey their perspectives ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. The Death Of Movie Theaters Essay The Death of Movie Theaters? How Netflix and Hulu are changing the movie going experience. Netflix and Hulu have become some of the easiest and most affordable ways for college students to watch television. While these massive online streaming companies advertise affordability, and vast amount of viewing options, other major entertainment companies are beginning to take notice. They re being able to release high quality movie content and original shows that are being able to rival anything that is being made for theaters, Paul McFerron, Employee of the Branson Meadow s Cinema s, told me last week. McFerron, having worked at the cinema for over a year now, has noticed a slight decline in the attendance at the theater. He believes that Netflix has something to do with it. Netflix s cost per month is around 10 dollars now. A year ago, I believe the cost was 7.99 monthly. What I m trying to say is that if you come to the theater, one ticket alone can cost around 8 dollars. Then you factor in snacks which could bump your ticket it up to 15 dollars. Plus, if the film is in 3D, then you are looking at a 12 15 dollar ticket, and add however much you want with concessions. The prices are steep, and I understand why some people are passing on theaters. The option of being able to stay in the comfort of your own home is very appealing to people right now. I mean, I myself am a college student, and I sometimes don t have enough money to go to the movies, so the affordability ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 14. The Effect Of Genetic Diversity On Living Things Are The... The main cause of genetic diversity in living things are the five processes of evolution. These five processes genetic drift, gene flow, natural selection, speciation, and mutations all affect allele frequencies within a population in different ways, thus, creating genetic diversity. Population change is in direct relation to both genetic drift and gene flow. Genetic drift is defined as variation in the relative frequency of different genotypes in a small population. This variation is caused by two types of genetic drift also known as the Bottleneck effect and the Founders effect. A Bottleneck effect is typically caused by a random event such as hunting or a natural disaster which can significantly reduce a population. Although a population can gain back their original population size after a Bottleneck effect, their genes have been permanently affected, resulting in much less genetic variation than that of a population that was not affected by a Bottleneck effect. Examples of genetic diversity due to a Bottleneck effect include the lack of genetic variation due to intense hunting in the 1890 s within the Northern elephant seal population compared to the large Southern elephant seal population. A Founders effect occurs when individuals from a large population branch out and create a new colony. Due to the small population, the colony is more likely to have less genetic variation from the original population. An example of a Founders effect is the presence of Polydactyly ... The Role Of Homosexual Discrimination In The United States Throughout history, there have been many cases of injustice and discrimination both around the world and in the United States specifically. There has been oppression of and discrimination against differing ethnic groups, women, and now, individuals with a different sexual orientation than what can be seen as normal. While the rights of these groups have improved significantly, discrimination still occurs. However, discrimination against them is still less rampant than the discrimination against people who identify as homosexuals and other similar sexual orientations. Texas, Justice Kennedy, Majority Opinion). This case was examined using the lens of both the Equal Protection and Due Process Clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment. By examining Bowers v. Hardwick (1986), The U.S. Supreme Court decided that the case should be resolved by determining whether the petitioners were free as adults to engage in the private conduct in the exercise of their liberty under the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment to the Constitution (Page 3, Lawrence v. Texas, Justice Kennedy, Majority Opinion). When examining sexual crimes, a crime has been committed if both parties are consenting adults. The court, has a very limited role in the home. As such, if two consenting adults engage in sexual activity, it should be to their discretion, not the government s. Therefore, adults may choose to enter upon this relationship in the confines of their homes and their own private lives and still retain their dignity as free persons. When sexuality finds overt expression in intimate conduct with another person, the conduct can be but one element in a personal bond that is more enduring. Analysis Of The Supervisor s Claims About Jeanette Landis In order to confirm that the supervisor s claims about Jeanette Landis are true, I would need to discuss her performance, in regards to her sales, with the sales department or the department that is in charge of this certain information. Even though Mr. White accuses Jeanette of not reaching her sales goals, all the facts and data needto be reviewed in order to determine if the information provided is accurate in terms of her performance. The human resource director cannot assume anything, approach all situations with caution, and be unbiased when determining the best action to take. When firing and employee, the human resource manager should be consistent and thorough when investigating the claims in order to prevent a discrimination lawsuit (Dunn, 1991, p. 26). When taking with the supervisor of the sales department, I would wanta copy of Jeanette s sales as well as a few other employees sales records in order to accurately compare the sales data information. The sales supervisor should give a timeline for the data, so that I could fully comprehend her sales. Jake is a man with high temper and his unpredictability in a number of issues is most fear provoking thing concerning him. In many occasions, Jake play the character of the friendly, beer swilling crowd as he plays his guitar and sing favorite songs to all, particularly in wee hours of the night with his drunken friends. The History and Breakdown of the Glass Ceiling Essay The History and Breakdown of the Glass Ceiling The term the glass ceiling first came into use in 1986 when two Wall Street Journal reporters coined the phrase to describe the invisible barrier that blocks women from the top jobs in corporate America. (Glass Ceiling Commission, Successful Initiatives ). Since then the metaphor has also been applied to the barriers of minorities. The Glass Ceiling Effect has been around for approximately 50 years. The Betrayal in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, and The Chronicles of Narnia: the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe According the Merriam Webster dictionary, to betray is to deliver to an enemy by treachery , or to give information about (a person, group, country, etc.) to an enemy . Betrayal is the result of many factors, including feelings of morality, greed and gluttony, and fear. In The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe , both the original novel and the 2005 movie, betrayal is exhibited as natural behaviour that can fortify relationships and teach people to forgive. He knows that he will not be awarded with any Turkish Delight, but he still tells that Witch more information out of habit, therefore betraying his siblings again. He is surprised by the Witch s threat to the Fox, and his reflexive response is to betray. Similarly, betrayal can occur when individuals are influenced by strong negative emotions. An example of this is shown when the Witch betrays Edmund by not giving him what she promised and also causes him to betray his siblings, all because of a deep fear. She is terrified of losing her throne, so she will do anything to prevent the prophecy from coming true, including forcing people to betray others. Edmund had an even greater incentive than Turkish Delight to betray his siblings. He was not on peaceful terms with Peter, Susan, and Lucy, and his hatred was a large factor in his actions. Even Peter could see his nasty temper: You ve always liked being beastly to anyone smaller than yourself; we ve seen that at school before now (46). Due to the number of times that betrayal is portrayed in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, the audience is able to see that it can be initiated by a myriad of factors. Secondly, the aftermath of treachery can include the reinforcement and the development of relationships. Since forgiveness shows love and compassion, people are brought closer together than they have been before. For instance, in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the ... Recombinant Dna Techniques Essay In this experiment, individuals were able to use recombinant DNA techniques such as cloning to alter the DNA of a certain strain of yeast called Saccharomyces Cerevisiae. By the use of cloning, scientists are able to analyze and compare the genetic material of a specific organism to another. In this lab, the recombinant DNAtechniques are used to transform AmpS E. Coli to AmpR E. Coli. This was done by using an insert, a vector, and a host. The insert was S. Cerevisiae genomic DNA, E. Coli plasmid was the vector, and E. Coli was the host. The technique of gel electrophoresis was also used to determine whether the DNA was cut or not with restriction enzymes. Uncut sequences of the DNA were sent to an outside laboratory for sequencing. Then when the sequencing was complete, computer programs, such as BLAST, were used to determine whether or not the genomic insert originates from a gene and if the yeast codes for a protein that could be found within the human genome. Introduction Saccharomyces Cerevisiae, more commonly known as baker s yeast or brewer s yeast, is very favorable to use in biotechnology because of the wide range of environmental conditions it could live in. S. • 29. The Hero s Journey Theory So what makes a hero? What must a person have to be considered a hero? Is it his or her strength, powers, courage, morals, integrity, or knowledge? According to Joseph Campbell, a hero properly is someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than himself or other than himself. So with the help of Joseph Campbell s Hero s Journey theory, evidence will be given to prove why the Flashis a hero, and not a cold hearted villain like Captain Cold. To start off we ll begin with Campbell s first stage of the Hero s Journey. According to his theory, the story must begin where the hero was once normal. To define normal regarding the Flash, the Flashwould have had to be someone who existed without any powers, living a regular citizens life, and oblivious of the adventures to come. So before Barry became known as the Flash, he was first known as Barry Allen. Barry valued family, justice, and the safety of everyone. He was a regular citizen who worked for Central City s police department as a Police scientist, too. With the following being stated, we can conclude Barry was already a hero before his special powers. First, Barry is working to fight justice as an employee of Central City s police department. Secondly, he enjoys fighting for justice in general. And lastly, considering Barry s personality and values he isn t selfish for power, disrespectful, dishonest, and greedy like most villain characters. Overview After working on the reflective blogs, I noticed that many management concepts related to each other. One of the key concepts I felt was important came from the human relations movement and was proposed by Douglas McGregor. According to Kinicki and Williams (2017), McGregor came up with Theory X and Theory Y to describe how manager s attitude can play an essential role in employee s performance and job satisfaction (p. 51). Smoking Should Be Banned In Public Places Smoking should be prohibited in public places because it causes pollution, is disrespectful to others, and is dangerous to others due to secondhand smoke. Smoking in a public place should be prohibited. Public smoking is a large epidemic in the United States that needs to be stopped. Smoking is not just dangerous to the person who smokes, but to those who are around them as well. The children, the adults, everyone can be affected by it. First, smoking causes different kinds of pollution, like ground and air pollution. The air can become polluted causing it to become hard to breathe. As well as making . it hard to breathe, it causes the air to stink and brings secondhand smoke. Smokers also tend to leave their butts on the ground, just flicking them out of their hand onto the ground. The pollution let off by cigarette smoke is 10 times more polluted than the exhaust given off by a car. The smoke given off by the cigarette has finer particulates, which is more dangerous. Second, people chose not to smoke, they personally do not want to deal with it or to be exposed to it. It is not fair for them to walk outside after shopping, or even outside of a hospital, and walk into a cloud of smoke. Many times non smoking hotels smell like smoke. Whether a country develops a free market, a mixed, or a command economy, the foundation of the system lies in how to people choose to use and distribute resources. Free market and capitalist ideals emerged in reaction to the mercantilist policies of the Colonial era (1700s). As Europe industrialized, revolutionizing the way of life in many countries like UK, there were adverse consequences. Though the manufacturing and availability of jobs increased prosperity and lifted spirits, living conditions were abhorrent and inequality (of wealth) was rampant As free market capitalism began to show its flaws, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels wrote their communist manifesto in response to the living and working conditions of the working class in England. Communism calls for the government to make economic decisions and direct production (through quotas and plans), no individual ownership (all state owned), total equality, and for the working class, the Proletariat, to unite against the Bourgeoisie (upper class). In a command economy, there are two main sectors in the class system: the Bourgeoisie, the wealthy, and the Proletariat, the working class, who have a hostile and antagonistic relationship. In contrast to Smith s free market ideology, Marx is anti class, believes in government control of the economy, that the division of labor is degrading and dehumanizing (one loses individuality), and that competition must be abolished. This complete reversal in economic ideology, towards the opposite spectrum eventually failed in most communist regimes like the Soviet Union. • 43. Comparing Sweat And The Gilded Six Bits Navin Shiwgobin CRN 1337 Professor Chance March 4, 2016 Compare and Contrasting Sweat and The Gilded Six Bits In the short stories, Sweat and The Gilded Six bit , by Zora Neale Hurston, both take place in her hometown of Eatonville, Florida, during the early 1900s. Eatonville was one of the first towns founded by African Americans in the US. Because they are set in the same town, the stories characters speak in a broken, English dialect of the South, to reflect the era and location in which they lived. These stories depict identical circumstances with different consequences. They illustrate the betrayal of adultery within both of the marriages of Sykes and Delia, from Sweat , and Missy May and Joe from The Gilded Six Bits . Furthermore,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Sweat , Delia is absolutely terrified by the idea of snakes. Sykes knows this but that doesn t stop him from antagonizing her with the thought. He uses a bullwhip to scare her, as it resembles a snake. He puts it over her shoulder while she is doing work, and she reacts terrified, in which greatly pleases Sykes. Sykes, what you throw dat whip on me like dat? You know it would skeer me looks just like a snake, an you knows how skeered Ah is of snakes. (Hurston 1) Sykes still isn t finished with his tormenting, as he brings home a rattlesnake. This is where irony strikes, as the same snake he used to torment Delia bites him and inevitably kills him. In The Gilded Six Bits , the theme of irony is present as well. With Joe s constant praise of Slemmons, this ironically contributed to Missy s betrayal as he constantly peaked her interest about him. Joe and Missy May dont realize that they possess something far more valuable than gold. They have each other s love, which proves to be a very strong thing nonetheless. Missy May almost throws this away for a gold coin, to which she finds out that it is just a gold plated half dollar. She took it into her hands trembling and saw that it was no gold piece. It was a gilded half dollar. (Hurston 734) This experience serves as a precious lesson to them both: all that glitters is not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Face To Face Communication In So You Ve Been Publicly Shamed Technological advances have undoubtedly changed the way that humans communicate with each other, but is it leading the old fashioned method of face to face communication towards deterioration? Popularity in the usage of cyber communication has most definitely expanded, coming with its own advantages and disadvantages. The argument that cyber communicationis possibly replacing face to face communication is argued, while many fail to realize that face to face communication has its own disadvantages as well. Both these methods of communication function in conjunction with one another, consequently, one cannot replace the other. Jon Ronson is able to provide strong examples of the disadvantages of cyber communication in his novel So You ve Been Publicly Shamed, while failing to note that there are also definite advantages to cyber communication, as well as positive and negative aspects to face to face communication. Cyber communication has the ability to completely deteriorate people s reputations, as shown in Jon Ronson s novel So You ve Been Publicly Shamed. Cyber communication, more specifically, social media, has internet trolls hiding behind screens that voluntarily slander others. Then there are everyday people, such as Justine Sacco, that choose to say the wrong thing and find their lives ruined and jobs lost. Jon Ronson poses an interesting question in regards to the slander that Sacco received after posting her tweets, what was it for: just some social media drama? ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. The Critique Of Kenneth Branagh s The Hamlet In 1996, British actor and director, Kenneth Branagh took on the production of the film The Hamlet. It is notable that Branagh took into consideration the play s intricate detail as he built around the film. In his directing effort, he made both plausible and not so brilliant decisions too. It is commendable to a given extent that Branagh maintained Shakespearean language throughout the film. However, he did away with a significant part of the play s ambiguous quality by making plain, mindful decisions on aspects such as setting, characterization and others in the film. Branagh put it in the Napoleonic era rather than the Middle Ages according to Shakespeare s original version. BRANAGH S DIRECTOR CONCEPT EMPLOYED STRATEGIES AIMED AT CREATING A BLOWN UP DRAMATIC VISION OF HAMLET . Several cinematic basics, such as the film s melodic make, compliment Branagh s complex vision of the film and intrigue the audience. Several of Branagh s directorial implementations in Hamlet sync well to make the film both enchanting and witty. His choice to slightly modernize the setting creates a more pompous set plus costume design that becomes an aesthetic quality to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These frequent visualizations create even stronger assertions about Hamlet; which assertions Branagh risked to include within his version of the film. For example, around the opening of the film, when Hamlet follows the Ghost into the woods and he spills the details of his demise to Hamlet, a visualized thought montage appears. The Ghost recounts his death at the hands of Claudius and as the Ghost narrates, a montage of the events plays. This montage gives the audience a comprehensible illustration of the Ghost s story as Hamlet draws images of it in his own mind. Throughout the film Koro (Paikea s Grandfather), is sexist towards Paikea (Main Character and Heroine) and children of the male gender. Emily was notable to American Literature, and she sealed the road for several of today s poets. She was a creative poet, determined writer, and an extreme introvert who never gave up. Emily Dickinsonwas born on December 10, 1830 and passed away at age 55 on May 15, 1886. ( Emily Famous). Having grown up in poverty, it influenced her poems greatly. It is very popular because she uses this metaphor through a bird, showing that even in the hard times we should still have hope ( Emily Study). Theres many reasons why this poem is so popular, one being the way she puts commas around the word hope (O Connor). Hope is the Thing with Feathers is also a very positive poem, and many people feel as if it speaks right to the heart (O Connor). There is a lot of reviews saying that it just has a pleasant type of message (O Connor). Many people also find it a very good description of hope, and many people love it because they feel as if they can relate to it (O Connor). This poem was published in 1891 in the 2nd collection of Dickinson s work, Poems by Emily Dickinson, second series ( Hope Encyclopedia). My opinion of Hope is the Thing with Feathers would have to be that she was very clear with her message. Not only do I feel that I can relate to it, I feel as if many other people can relate to it. That poems main point is about hope and how you should believe in it whenever things are not looking up for you, and I think that is very true. Many times people get discouraged and think that there is nothing left but there is, and it is hope. I highly agree with Dickinson in her poem Hope is the Thing with Feathers . • 48. Part Indigenous Speeches Essay Assignment 2 Part A: Indigenous speeches research essay The Apology Prime Minister Kevin Rudd On the 13th February 2008, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd, offered an Apology to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People by way of a speech that he presented to the 42nd parliament of the Commonwealth. His speech outlined the past oppression of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who had to endure pain and suffering. Children were forcibly removed from their families. Mr Rudd opened his speech in parliament with the words We honour the Indigenous peoples of this land, the oldest continuing cultures in human history (2012). It is true that Mr Rudd took the first step in reconciliation however he has not progressed as far as hoped. There has been little compensation made to the stolen generation. Was the apology a sincere one? Perhaps? His intentions were clear and precise. Rudd had said he would apologize and he did. He did not say he would compensate the Indigenous Australians in any form which would have gone a long way to begin the healing process. Especially due to the inconceivable horrors that were enacted against the Stolen Generations. Kevin Rudd s speech was eloquent and lengthy (2012). He continued to make promises to the Indigenous Australians saying they, the government, were determined to close the gap, embrace new solutions to old issues and form a partnership between Indigenous and non Indigenous Australians. • 50. Uses of the Conventions of the Gothic Story in The Yellow... In the eighteenth century, Gothic story was an extremely popular form of literature, and it has been a major genre since then. The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner are both Gothic horror stories consisting madness and suspense. The Gothic horror story carries particular conventions in its setting, theme, point of view, and characterisation. Both Gilman and Faulkner follow the conventions of the Gothic horror story to create feelings of gloom, mystery, and suspense that are essential for compelling stories. Goth is a term that originally referred to a northern Germanic tribe who ransacked southern Europe in the fourth century A.D. Because the Goth was associated with the fall of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Setting in the Gothic horror story is important as it creates tone and atmosphere in the story. One of the conventional settings in the Gothic horror story is often in a remote locale with an isolated architecture. Gilman follows the conventions of the Gothic story by setting up the scene as the narrator of The Yellow Wallpaper describes the house and feels its ground has fallen into a slight state of disrepair. There were greenhouses, too, but they are all broken now. There was some legal trouble, I believe, something about the heirs and co heirs; anyhow, the place has been empty for years. The spoils my ghostliness, I am afraid, but I don t care #65293;there is something strange about the house #65293;I can feel it (Gilman 76). The narrator also complains about the room that she lives in, especially the yellow wallpaper. She mentions about the wallpaper several times, saying that when you follow the lame uncertain curves for a little distance they suddenly commit suicide #65293;plunge off at outrageous angels, destroy themselves in unheard of contradictions (Gilman 77). Gilman creates the setting that is superficially tranquility but actually a place of confinement. In The rose for Emily, Faulkner uses a big, giant house to have the Grierson family isolated from other town people. A Rose for Emily is set in Faulkner s mythical country, Yoknapatawpha, Mississippi. The narrator describes the house ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Stereotypes Of Women In The Nursing Field Essay The nursing field has had much influence from female nurses. Therefore, this has made them the face of nursing. With that being said many times men are often overlooked in the field, but there are additional reasons why they are overlooked. As of August 2012, men in the nursing field made up about only seven percent of the professional workforce in the United States of America. In the early 20th century men were allowed in nursing schools, but had to pass certain criteria that women did not have to go through. A law was finally put into place that did not allow for this type of discrimination to continue against men. As stated in the following, With the passage of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, it was no longer possible for educational programs to discriminate against any person on the basis of sex (Stokowski 2). Many may think that the nursing field is a less masculine career because it may not be a muscle, blue collar job, but this doesn t make the manless than what he is. Masculine professions are often viewed as architects, farmers, businessmen, and even doctors. Nurses may face many stereotypes, but malenurses are more susceptible to these stereotypes in the nursing field. Therefore, males are less likely to choose the...
