This document provides examples of calculating the percentage of water in hydrated salts and the percentage of water of crystallization. It also shows how to determine the formula of a salt based on the water of crystallization. Specifically, it demonstrates that the percentage of water in MgSO4.5H2O is 42.86% and the percentage of water of crystallization in CuSO4.xH2O is 36%. It further determines that the formula for CuSO4.xH2O is CuSO4.5H2O based on the mole ratio of CuSO4 to H2O being 1:5.
