Image Contrast Enhancement for Brightness Preservation Based on Dynamic Stret...CSCJournals
Histogram equalization is an efficient process often employed in consumer electronic systems for image contrast enhancement. In addition to an increase in contrast, it is also required to preserve the mean brightness of an image in order to convey the true scene information to the viewer. A conventional approach is to separate the image into sub-images and then process independently by histogram equalization towards a modified profile. However, due to the variations in image contents, the histogram separation threshold greatly influences the level of shift in mean brightness with respect to the uniform histogram in the equalization process. Therefore, the choice of a proper threshold, to separate the input image into sub-images, is very critical in order to preserve the mean brightness of the output image. In this research work, a dynamic range stretching approach is adopted to reduce the shift in output image mean brightness. Moreover, the computationally efficient golden section search algorithm is applied to obtain a proper separation into sub-images to preserve the mean brightness. Experiments were carried out on a large number of color images of natural scenes. Results, as compared to current available approaches, showed that the proposed method performed satisfactorily in terms of mean brightness preservation and enhancement in image contrast.
Image enhancement is a method of improving the quality of an image and contrast is a major aspect. Traditional methods of contrast enhancement like histogram equalization results in over/under enhancement of the image especially a lower resolution one. This paper aims at developing a new Fuzzy Inference System to enhance the contrast of the low resolution images overcoming the shortcomings of the traditional methods. Results obtained using both the approaches are compared.

A Novel Color Image Fusion for Multi Sensor Night Vision ImagesEditor IJCATR
In this paper presents a simple and fast color fusion approach for night vision images. Image fusion involves merging of two
or more images in such a way, to get the most advantageous characteristics of each image. Here the Visible image is fused with the
InfraRed (IR) image, so the desired result will be single, highly informative image providing full information. This paper focuses on
color constancy and color contrast problem.
Firstly the contrast of the infrared and visible image is enhanced using Local Histogram Equation. Then the two enhanced
images are fused in three compounds of a LAB image using aDWT image fusion. This paper adopts an approach which transfer color
from the reference image to the fused image using Color Transfer Technology. To enhance the contrast between the target and the
background, a scaling factor is introduced in the transferring equation in the b channel. Finally our approach gives the Multiband
Fused image with the natural day-time color appearance and the hot targets are popped out with intense colors while the background
details present with the natural color appearance.
Intensity Preserving Cast Removal in Color Images Using Particle Swarm Optimi...IJECEIAES
In this paper, we present an optimal image enhancement technique for color cast images by preserving their intensity. There are methods which improves the appearance of the affected images under different cast like red, green, blue etc but up to some extent. The proposed color cast method is corrected by using transformation function based on gamma values. These optimal values of gamma are obtained through particle swarm optimization (PSO). This technique preserves the image intensity and maintains the originality of color by satisfying the modified gray world assumptions. For the performance analysis, the image distance metric criteria of CIELAB color space is used. The effectiveness of the proposed approach is illustrated by testing the proposed method on color cast images. It has been found that distance between the reference image and the corrected proposed image is negligible. The calculated value of image distance depicts that the enhanced image results of the proposed algorithm are closer to the reference images in comparison with other existing methods.
Histogram Equalization with Range Offset for Brightness Preserved Image Enhan...CSCJournals
In this paper, a simple modification to Global Histogram Equalization (GHE), a well known digital image enhancement method, has been proposed. This proposed method known as Histogram Equalization with Range Offset (HERO) is divided into two stages. In its first stage, an intensity mapping function is constructed by using the cumulative density function of the input image, similar to GHE. Then, during the second stage, an offset for the intensity mapping function will be determined to maintain the mean brightness of the image, which is a crucial criterion for digital image enhancement in consumer electronic products. Comparison with some of the current histogram equalization based enhancement methods shows that HERO successfully preserves the mean brightness and give good enhancement to the image.
PURPOSES: this study aims to perform microcalsification detection by performing image enhancement in mammography image by using transformation of negative image and histogram equalization. METHOD: image mammography with .pgm format changed to. jpg format then processed into negative image result then processed again using histogram equalization. RESULT: the results of the image enhancement process using negative image techniques and equalization histograms are compared and validated with MSE and PSNR on each mammographic image. CONCLUSION: Image enhancement process on mammography image can be done, however there are only some image that have improved quality, this affected by threshold usage, which have important role to get better visualization on mammographic image.
Enhancement of Medical Images using Histogram Based Hybrid TechniqueINFOGAIN PUBLICATION
Digital Image Processing is very important area of research. A number of techniques are available for image enhancement of gray scale images as well as color images. They work very efficiently for enhancement of the gray scale as well as color images. Important techniques namely Histogram Equalization, BBHE, RSWHE, RSWHE (recursion=2, gamma=No), AGCWD (Recursion=0, gamma=0) have been used quite frequently for image enhancement. But there are some shortcomings of the present techniques. The major shortcoming is that while enhancement, the brightness of the image deteriorates quite a lot. So there was need for some technique for image enhancement so that while enhancement was done, the brightness of the images does not go down. To remove this shortcoming, a new hybrid technique namely RESWHE+AGCWD (recursion=2, gamma=0 or 1) was proposed. The results of the proposed technique were compared with the existing techniques. In the present methodology, the brightness did not decrease during image enhancement. So the results and the technique was validated and accepted. The parameters via PSNR, MSE, AMBE etc. are taken for performance evaluation and validation of the proposed technique against the existing techniques which results in better outperform.
COLOUR IMAGE ENHANCEMENT BASED ON HISTOGRAM EQUALIZATIONecij
Histogram equalization is a nonlinear technique for adjusting the contrast of an image using its
histogram. It increases the brightness of a gray scale image which is different from the mean brightness of
the original image. There are various types of Histogram equalization techniques like Histogram
Equalization, Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization, Brightness Preserving Bi Histogram
Equalization, Dualistic Sub Image Histogram Equalization, Minimum Mean Brightness Error Bi
Histogram Equalization, Recursive Mean Separate Histogram Equalization and Recursive Sub Image
Histogram Equalization. In this paper, the histogram equalization approach of gray-level images is
extended for colour images. The acquired image is converted into HSV (Hue, Saturation, Value). The
image is then decomposed into two parts by using exposure threshold and then equalized them
independently Over enhancement is also controlled in this method by using clipping threshold. For
measuring the performance of the enhanced image, entropy and contrast are calculated.

Image Enhancement using Guided Filter for under Exposed ImagesDr. Amarjeet Singh
Image enhancement becomes an important step to
improve the quality of image and change in the appearance of
the image in such a way that either a human or a machine can
fetch certain information from the image after a change. Due
to low contrast images it becomes very difficult to get any
information out of it. In today’s digital world of imaging
image enhancement is a very useful in various applications
ranging from electronics printing to recognition. For highly
underexposed region, intensity bin are present in darken
region that’s by such images lacks in saturation and suffers
from low intensity. Power law transformation provides
solution to this problem. It enhances the brightness so as
image at least becomes visible. To modify the intensity level
histogram equalization can be used. In this we can apply
cumulative density function and probabilistic density function
so as to divide the image into sub images.
In proposed approach to provide betterment in
results guided filter has been applied to images after
equalization so that we can get better Entropy rate and
Coefficient of correlation can be improved with previously
available techniques. The guided filter is derived from local
linear model. The guided filter computes the filtering output
by considering the content of guidance image, which can be
the image itself or other targeted image.

CONTRAST ENHANCEMENT TECHNIQUES USING HISTOGRAM EQUALIZATION METHODS ON COLOR...IJCSEA Journal
Histogram equalization (HE) is a simple and widely used image contrast enhancement technique. The basic disadvantage of HE is it changes the brightness of the image. In order to overcome this drawback, various HE methods have been proposed. These methods preserves the brightness on the output image but, does not have a natural look. In order to overcome this problem the, present paper uses Multi-HE methods, which decompose the image into several sub images, and classical HE method is applied to each sub image. The algorithm is applied on various images and has been analysed using both objective and subjective assessment.

QUALITY ASSESSMENT OF PIXEL-LEVEL IMAGE FUSION USING FUZZY LOGICijsc
Image fusion is to reduce uncertainty and minimize redundancy in the output while maximizing relevant information from two or more images of a scene into a single composite image that is more informative and is more suitable for visual perception or processing tasks like medical imaging, remote sensing, concealed weapon detection, weather forecasting, biometrics etc. Image fusion combines registered images to
produce a high quality fused image with spatial and spectral information. The fused image with more information will improve the performance of image analysis algorithms used in different applications. In this paper, we proposed a fuzzy logic method to fuse images from different sensors, in order to enhance the
quality and compared proposed method with two other methods i.e. image fusion using wavelet transform and weighted average discrete wavelet transform based image fusion using genetic algorithm (here onwards abbreviated as GA) along with quality evaluation parameters image quality index (IQI), mutual

The results obtained from proposed fuzzy based image fusion approach improves quality of fused image as compared to earlier reported
methods, wavelet transform based image fusion and weighted average discrete wavelet transform based
image fusion using genetic algorithm.

Image enhancement is one of the challenging issues in image processing. The objective of Image enhancement is to process an image so that result is more suitable than original image for specific application. Digital image enhancement techniques provide a lot of choices for improving the visual quality of images. Appropriate choice of such techniques is very important. This paper will provide an overview and analysis of different techniques commonly used for image enhancement. Image enhancement plays a fundamental role in vision applications. Recently much work is completed in the field of images enhancement. Many techniques have previously been proposed up to now for enhancing the digital images. In this paper, a survey on various image enhancement techniques has been done.

The images are not always good enough to convey the proper information.
The image may be very bright or very dark sometime or it may be low
contrast or high contrast. Because of these reasons image enhancement plays
important role in digital image processing. In this paper we proposed an
image enhancement technique in which gabor and median filtering is
performed in wavelet domain and adaptive histogram equalization is
performed in spatial domain. Brightness and contrast are the two parameters

HUMAN VISION THRESHOLDING WITH ENHANCEMENT FOR DARK BLURRED IMAGES FOR LOCAL ...cscpconf
There are several images that do not have uniform brightness which pose a challenging problem
for image enhancement systems. As histogram equalization has been successfully used to correct
for uniform brightness problems, a histogram equalization method that utilizes human visual
system based thresholding(human vision thresholding) as well as logarithmic processing
techniques were introduced later . But these methods are not good for preserving the local
content of the image which is a major factor for various images like medical images. Therefore
new method is proposed here. This method is referred as “Human vision thresholding with
enhancement technique for dark blurred images for local content preservation”. It uses human
vision thresholding together with an existing enhancement method for dark blurred images.
Experimental results shows that the proposed method outperforms the former existing methods in
preserving the local content for standard images and medical images
Contrast enhancement using various statistical operations and neighborhood pr...sipij
Histogram Equalization is a simple and effective contrast enhancement technique. In spite of its popularity
Histogram Equalization still have some limitations –produces artifacts, unnatural images and the local
details are not considered, therefore due to these limitations many other Equalization techniques have been
derived from it with some up gradation. In this proposed method statistics play an important role in image
processing, where statistical operations is applied to the image to get the desired result such as
manipulation of brightness and contrast. Thus, a novel algorithm using statistical operations and
neighborhood processing has been proposed in this paper where the algorithm has proven to be effective in
contrast enhancement based on the theory and experiment.
A MODIFIED HISTOGRAM BASED FAST ENHANCEMENT ALGORITHMcsandit
The contrast enhancement of medical images has an important role in diseases diagnostic,
specially, cancer cases. Histogram equalization is considered as the most popular algorithm for
contrast enhancement according to its effectiveness and simplicity. In this paper, we present a
modified version of the Histogram Based Fast Enhancement Algorithm. This algorithm
enhances the areas of interest with less complexity. It is applied only to CT head images and its
idea based on treating with the soft tissues and ignoring other details in the image. The
proposed modification make the algorithm is valid for most CT image types with enhanced
results.

A Novel Method for Prevention of Bandwidth Distributed Denial of Service AttacksIJERD Editor
Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) Attacks became a massive threat to the Internet. Traditional
Architecture of internet is vulnerable to the attacks like DDoS. Attacker primarily acquire his army of Zombies,
then that army will be instructed by the Attacker that when to start an attack and on whom the attack should be
done. In this paper, different techniques which are used to perform DDoS Attacks, Tools that were used to
perform Attacks and Countermeasures in order to detect the attackers and eliminate the Bandwidth Distributed
Denial of Service attacks (B-DDoS) are reviewed. DDoS Attacks were done by using various Flooding
techniques which are used in DDoS attack.
The main purpose of this paper is to design an architecture which can reduce the Bandwidth
Distributed Denial of service Attack and make the victim site or server available for the normal users by
eliminating the zombie machines. Our Primary focus of this paper is to dispute how normal machines are
turning into zombies (Bots), how attack is been initiated, DDoS attack procedure and how an organization can
save their server from being a DDoS victim. In order to present this we implemented a simulated environment
with Cisco switches, Routers, Firewall, some virtual machines and some Attack tools to display a real DDoS
attack. By using Time scheduling, Resource Limiting, System log, Access Control List and some Modular
policy Framework we stopped the attack and identified the Attacker (Bot) machines
Hearing loss is one of the most common human impairments. It is estimated that by year 2015 more
than 700 million people will suffer mild deafness. Most can be helped by hearing aid devices depending on the
severity of their hearing loss. This paper describes the implementation and characterization details of a dual
channel transmitter front end (TFE) for digital hearing aid (DHA) applications that use novel micro
electromechanical- systems (MEMS) audio transducers and ultra-low power-scalable analog-to-digital
converters (ADCs), which enable a very-low form factor, energy-efficient implementation for next-generation
DHA. The contribution of the design is the implementation of the dual channel MEMS microphones and powerscalable
ADC system.
Influence of tensile behaviour of slab on the structural Behaviour of shear c...IJERD Editor
-A composite beam is composed of a steel beam and a slab connected by means of shear connectors
like studs installed on the top flange of the steel beam to form a structure behaving monolithically. This study
analyzes the effects of the tensile behavior of the slab on the structural behavior of the shear connection like slip
stiffness and maximum shear force in composite beams subjected to hogging moment. The results show that the
shear studs located in the crack-concentration zones due to large hogging moments sustain significantly smaller
shear force and slip stiffness than the other zones. Moreover, the reduction of the slip stiffness in the shear
connection appears also to be closely related to the change in the tensile strain of rebar according to the increase
of the load. Further experimental and analytical studies shall be conducted considering variables such as the
reinforcement ratio and the arrangement of shear connectors to achieve efficient design of the shear connection
in composite beams subjected to hogging moment.
Gold prospecting using Remote Sensing ‘A case study of Sudan’IJERD Editor
Gold has been extracted from northeast Africa for more than 5000 years, and this may be the first
place where the metal was extracted. The Arabian-Nubian Shield (ANS) is an exposure of Precambrian
crystalline rocks on the flanks of the Red Sea. The crystalline rocks are mostly Neoproterozoic in age. ANS
includes the nations of Israel, Jordan. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Yemen, and Somalia.
Arabian Nubian Shield Consists of juvenile continental crest that formed between 900 550 Ma, when intra
oceanic arc welded together along ophiolite decorated arc. Primary Au mineralization probably developed in
association with the growth of intra oceanic arc and evolution of back arc. Multiple episodes of deformation
have obscured the primary metallogenic setting, but at least some of the deposits preserve evidence that they
originate as sea floor massive sulphide deposits.
The Red Sea Hills Region is a vast span of rugged, harsh and inhospitable sector of the Earth with
inimical moon-like terrain, nevertheless since ancient times it is famed to be an abode of gold and was a major
source of wealth for the Pharaohs of ancient Egypt. The Pharaohs old workings have been periodically
rediscovered through time. Recent endeavours by the Geological Research Authority of Sudan led to the
discovery of a score of occurrences with gold and massive sulphide mineralizations. In the nineties of the
previous century the Geological Research Authority of Sudan (GRAS) in cooperation with BRGM utilized
satellite data of Landsat TM using spectral ratio technique to map possible mineralized zones in the Red Sea
Hills of Sudan. The outcome of the study mapped a gossan type gold mineralization. Band ratio technique was
applied to Arbaat area and a signature of alteration zone was detected. The alteration zones are commonly
associated with mineralization. The alteration zones are commonly associated with mineralization. A filed check
confirmed the existence of stock work of gold bearing quartz in the alteration zone. Another type of gold
mineralization that was discovered using remote sensing is the gold associated with metachert in the Atmur
Desert.
Reducing Corrosion Rate by Welding DesignIJERD Editor
The paper addresses the importance of welding design to prevent corrosion at steel. Welding is
used to join pipe, profiles at bridges, spindle, and a lot more part of engineering construction. The
problems happened associated with welding are common issues in these fields, especially corrosion.
Corrosion can be reduced with many methods, they are painting, controlling humidity, and also good
welding design. In the research, it can be found that reducing residual stress on the welding can be
solved in corrosion rate reduction problem.
Preheating on 500oC and 600oC give better condition to reduce corosion rate than condition after
preheating 400oC. For all welding groove type, material with 500oC and 600oC preheating after 14 days
corrosion test is 0,5%-0,69% lost. Material with 400oC preheating after 14 days corrosion test is 0,57%-0,76%
lost.
Welding groove also influence corrosion rate. X and V type welding groove give better condition to reduce
corrosion rate than use 1/2V and 1/2 X welding groove. After 14 days corrosion test, the samples with
X welding groove type is 0,5%-0,57% lost. The samples with V welding groove after 14 days corrosion test is
0,51%-0,59% lost. The samples with 1/2V and 1/2X welding groove after 14 days corrosion test is 0,58%-
0,71% lost.

Active Power Exchange in Distributed Power-Flow Controller (DPFC) At Third Ha...IJERD Editor
This paper presents a component within the flexible ac-transmission system (FACTS) family, called
distributed power-flow controller (DPFC). The DPFC is derived from the unified power-flow controller (UPFC)
with an eliminated common dc link. The DPFC has the same control capabilities as the UPFC, which comprise
the adjustment of the line impedance, the transmission angle, and the bus voltage. The active power exchange
between the shunt and series converters, which is through the common dc link in the UPFC, is now through the
transmission lines at the third-harmonic frequency. DPFC multiple small-size single-phase converters which
reduces the cost of equipment, no voltage isolation between phases, increases redundancy and there by
reliability increases. The principle and analysis of the DPFC are presented in this paper and the corresponding
simulation results that are carried out on a scaled prototype are also shown.
Mitigation of Voltage Sag/Swell with Fuzzy Control Reduced Rating DVRIJERD Editor
Power quality has been an issue that is becoming increasingly pivotal in industrial electricity
consumers point of view in recent times. Modern industries employ Sensitive power electronic equipments,
control devices and non-linear loads as part of automated processes to increase energy efficiency and
productivity. Voltage disturbances are the most common power quality problem due to this the use of a large
numbers of sophisticated and sensitive electronic equipment in industrial systems is increased. This paper
discusses the design and simulation of dynamic voltage restorer for improvement of power quality and
reduce the harmonics distortion of sensitive loads. Power quality problem is occurring at non-standard
voltage, current and frequency. Electronic devices are very sensitive loads. In power system voltage sag,
swell, flicker and harmonics are some of the problem to the sensitive load. The compensation capability
of a DVR depends primarily on the maximum voltage injection ability and the amount of stored
energy available within the restorer. This device is connected in series with the distribution feeder at
medium voltage. A fuzzy logic control is used to produce the gate pulses for control circuit of DVR and the
circuit is simulated by using MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
Study on the Fused Deposition Modelling In Additive ManufacturingIJERD Editor
Additive manufacturing process, also popularly known as 3-D printing, is a process where a product
is created in a succession of layers. It is based on a novel materials incremental manufacturing philosophy.
Unlike conventional manufacturing processes where material is removed from a given work price to derive the
final shape of a product, 3-D printing develops the product from scratch thus obviating the necessity to cut away
materials. This prevents wastage of raw materials. Commonly used raw materials for the process are ABS
plastic, PLA and nylon. Recently the use of gold, bronze and wood has also been implemented. The complexity
factor of this process is 0% as in any object of any shape and size can be manufactured.

Secure Image Transmission for Cloud Storage System Using Hybrid SchemeIJERD Editor
- Data over the cloud is transferred or transmitted between servers and users. Privacy of that
data is very important as it belongs to personal information. If data get hacked by the hacker, can be
used to defame a person’s social data. Sometimes delay are held during data transmission. i.e. Mobile
communication, bandwidth is low. Hence compression algorithms are proposed for fast and efficient
transmission, encryption is used for security purposes and blurring is used by providing additional
layers of security. These algorithms are hybridized for having a robust and efficient security and
transmission over cloud storage system.
Application of Buckley-Leverett Equation in Modeling the Radius of Invasion i...IJERD Editor
A thorough review of existing literature indicates that the Buckley-Leverett equation only analyzes
waterflood practices directly without any adjustments on real reservoir scenarios. By doing so, quite a number
of errors are introduced into these analyses. Also, for most waterflood scenarios, a radial investigation is more
appropriate than a simplified linear system. This study investigates the adoption of the Buckley-Leverett
equation to estimate the radius invasion of the displacing fluid during waterflooding. The model is also adopted
for a Microbial flood and a comparative analysis is conducted for both waterflooding and microbial flooding.
Results shown from the analysis doesn’t only records a success in determining the radial distance of the leading
edge of water during the flooding process, but also gives a clearer understanding of the applicability of
microbes to enhance oil production through in-situ production of bio-products like bio surfactans, biogenic
gases, bio acids etc.
Gesture Gaming on the World Wide Web Using an Ordinary Web CameraIJERD Editor
- Gesture gaming is a method by which users having a laptop/pc/x-box play games using natural or
bodily gestures. This paper presents a way of playing free flash games on the internet using an ordinary webcam
with the help of open source technologies. Emphasis in human activity recognition is given on the pose
estimation and the consistency in the pose of the player. These are estimated with the help of an ordinary web
camera having different resolutions from VGA to 20mps. Our work involved giving a 10 second documentary to
the user on how to play a particular game using gestures and what are the various kinds of gestures that can be
performed in front of the system. The initial inputs of the RGB values for the gesture component is obtained by
instructing the user to place his component in a red box in about 10 seconds after the short documentary before
the game is finished. Later the system opens the concerned game on the internet on popular flash game sites like
miniclip, games arcade, GameStop etc and loads the game clicking at various places and brings the state to a
place where the user is to perform only gestures to start playing the game. At any point of time the user can call
off the game by hitting the esc key and the program will release all of the controls and return to the desktop. It
was noted that the results obtained using an ordinary webcam matched that of the Kinect and the users could
relive the gaming experience of the free flash games on the net. Therefore effective in game advertising could
also be achieved thus resulting in a disruptive growth to the advertising firms.

“MS-Extractor: An Innovative Approach to Extract Microsatellites on „Y‟ Chrom...IJERD Editor
Simple Sequence Repeats (SSR), also known as Microsatellites, have been extensively used as
molecular markers due to their abundance and high degree of polymorphism. The nucleotide sequences of
polymorphic forms of the same gene should be 99.9% identical. So, Microsatellites extraction from the Gene is
crucial. However, Microsatellites repeat count is compared, if they differ largely, he has some disorder. The Y
chromosome likely contains 50 to 60 genes that provide instructions for making proteins. Because only males
have the Y chromosome, the genes on this chromosome tend to be involved in male sex determination and
development. Several Microsatellite Extractors exist and they fail to extract microsatellites on large data sets of
giga bytes and tera bytes in size. The proposed tool “MS-Extractor: An Innovative Approach to extract
Microsatellites on „Y‟ Chromosome” can extract both Perfect as well as Imperfect Microsatellites from large
data sets of human genome „Y‟. The proposed system uses string matching with sliding window approach to
locate Microsatellites and extracts them.
Importance of Measurements in Smart GridIJERD Editor

Study of Macro level Properties of SCC using GGBS and Lime stone powderIJERD Editor
One of the major environmental concerns is the disposal of the waste materials and utilization of
industrial by products. Lime stone quarries will produce millions of tons waste dust powder every year. Having
considerable high degree of fineness in comparision to cement this material may be utilized as a partial
replacement to cement. For this purpose an experiment is conducted to investigate the possibility of using lime
stone powder in the production of SCC with combined use GGBS and how it affects the fresh and mechanical
properties of SCC. First SCC is made by replacing cement with GGBS in percentages like 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and
by taking the optimum mix with GGBS lime stone powder is blended to mix in percentages like 5, 10, 15, 20 as
a partial replacement to cement. Test results shows that the SCC mix with combination of 30% GGBS and 15%
limestone powder gives maximum compressive strength and fresh properties are also in the limits prescribed by
the EFNARC.

As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Abstract:- Image enhancement is one of the challenging issues in low level image processing. Contrast
enhancement techniques are used for improving visual quality of low contrast images. Histogram Equalization
(HE) method is one such technique used for contrast enhancement. It is a contrast enhancement technique with
the objective to obtain a new enhanced image with a uniform histogram. In this paper, instead of using
conventional image enhancement techniques, we proposed a method called genetic algorithm for the
enhancement of images. This algorithm is fast and very less time consuming as compared to other techniques
such as global histogram equalization by taking CDF and finding out the transfer function. Here in our work we
are going to enhance images using histogram equalization of images by reconfiguring their pixel spacing using
optimization through GA (Genetic algorithm). We will get more optimized results with the use of GA with
respect to other optimization techniques.

I. INTRODUCTION
Digital image enhancement is one of the most important image processing technology which is
necessary to improve the visual appearance of the image or to provide a better transform representation for
future automated image processing such as image analysis, detection, segmentation and recognition. Many
images have very low dynamic range of the intensity values due to insufficient illumination and therefore need
to be processed before being displayed. Large number of techniques have focused on the enhancement of gray
level images in the spatial domain. These methods include histogram equalization, gamma correction, high pass
filtering, low pass filtering, homomorphic filtering, etc.
Y.-T. Kim [1] developed a method for contrast enhancement using brightness preserving bi-histogram
equalization. Similar method for image contrast enhancement is developed by Y. W. Qian [2]. A block
overlapped histogram equalization system for enhancing contrast of image is developed by T. K. Kim [3]. Other
histogram based methods [4]-[6] etc. are also developed. V. Buzuloiu et al. [7] proposed an image adaptive
neighborhood histogram equalization method, and S. K. Naik et al. [8] developed a hue preserving color image
enhancement method without having gamut problem. Li Tao and V. K. Asari [9] presented an integrated
neighborhood dependent approach for nonlinear enhancement (AINDANE) of color images. They applied the
enhancement to the gray component of the original color image and obtained the output enhanced color image
by linear color restoration process.
Image contrast enhancement techniques are of particular interest in photography, satellite imagery,
medical applications and display devices. Producing visually natural is required for many important areas such
as vision, remote sensing, dynamic scene analysis, autonomous navigation, and biomedical image analysis.
II. HISTOGRAM EQUALIZATION
Histogram equalization stretches the histogram across the entire spectrum of pixels (0 – 255).
Histogram equalization is one of the operations that can be applied to obtain new images based on histogram
specification or modification. It is a contrast enhancement technique with the objective to obtain a new
enhanced image with a uniform histogram.
Fig 1. Image Enhancement using Histogram Equalization
2. Image Enhancement Using Histogram Equalization Based On Genetic Algorithm
13
A histogram simply plots the frequency at which each grey-level occurs from 0 (black) to 255 (white).
Histogram represents the frequency of occurrence of all gray-level in the image, that means it tell us how the
values of individual pixel in an image are distributed.
III. METHOD ANALYSIS
In [10], a modified approach an Otsu‟s method is proposed to reduce the processing time involved in
otsu‟s threshold computation by performing multi-level thresholding. Y. T. Kim proposed a Contrast
Enhancement scheme using Brightness Preserving Bi-histogram Equalization (BBHE) [11], [12]. BBHE
separates the input image histogram into two parts based on input mean. After separation, each part is equalized
independently. This technique tries to overcome the brightness preservation problem. In [13] a method based on
recursive mean separation to provide scalable brightness preservation is proposed. In [14] a fast algorithm for
computing two dimensional Otsu„s threshold is proposed. Another framework for contrast enhancement based
on histogram modification is proposed in [15]. HE is an effective technique to transform a narrow histogram by
spreading the gray-level clusters over a dynamic range. It produces images with mean intensity that is
approximately in the middle of the dynamic range because it equalizes the whole image as such. In conventional
contrast enhancement methods, the image content of both the foreground and background details are held
together in performing the histogram equalization process. These global contrast enhancement techniques
produce undesirable effects on the visual quality of the image. Hence a new method was introduced which
enhances the image using Bi-histogram Equalization, performed using mean of the objects and the background.
This method not only preserves brightness but also improves the visual quality of the image.
Here we propose a modified approach through image Segmentation [16] by means of opening by
reconstruction. After that object based histogram equalization is proposed. After extracting the segmented image
using opening by reconstruction, the mean of each individual foreground object is calculated as
Where „ ‟ is the mean of object „i‟ and i=1 to n where „n‟ is the number of objects. Then the obtained
mean values are averaged as m1.
Similarly the mean of the background pixels is calculated as m2. Finally the mean values m1 and m2
are averaged as m. This mean „m‟ is further used as a threshold in bi-histogram Equalization. Bi-Histogram
Equalization can be used to enhance the low contrast image and it divides the gray level of the image into two
sub-levels based on the threshold that is obtained and equalizes each sub-level independently. This process is
represented in the flow diagram below:

IV. PROPOSED SCHEME
A. Genetic Algorithm:
Genetic Algorithm involves various processes as under:
Random Initialization (Parent Chromosomes): Initially many individual solutions are (usually)
randomly generated to form an initial population. The population size depends on the nature of the problem, but
typically contains several hundreds or thousands of possible solutions. Traditionally, the population is generated
randomly, allowing the entire range of possible solutions (the search space).
Mutation (formation of child chromosomes): In mutation process, child chromosomes are formed by
changing a value from each group of parent chromosome and calculating the fitness value of each group.
Selection: During each successive generation, a proportion of the existing population is selected to
breed a new generation. Individual solutions are selected through a fitness-based process. The fitness function is
defined over the genetic representation and measures the quality of the represented solution. The fitness function
is always problem dependent.
Sorting: After selection process, the groups are sorted in ascending order of the values of fitness
function obtained in the selection process.
Elimination: in elimination process, the worst groups (which have higher value of fitness function) are
replaced with the best groups (which have least value of fitness function).
Fig 3. Flow Diag. for Genetic Algorithm
Now, a new generation is formed. These processes ultimately result in the next generation population
of chromosomes that is different from the initial generation. Generally the average fitness will increase by this
procedure for the population, since only the best organisms from the first generation are selected for breeding,
along with a small proportion of less fit solutions. This generational process is repeated until a termination
condition has been reached.
B. Calculation of PSNR:
PSNR is most easily defined via the mean squared error (MSE). PSNR between two images can be
expressed in equation:
PSNR
where ‘L-1’ is the maximum gray level in the image.
Where is the enhanced image and is the original image and M,N are the dimensions of the images.
C. Calculation of Tenengrad:
The tenengrad of the image is calculated as:

15
where
where „Gx’ is the horizontal gradient of the image and „Gy’ is the vertical gradient of the image.
D. Calculation of Contrast:
The contrast in a particular 3×3 window of pixels x1,x2,x3,x4,x5,x6,x7,x8,x9 where x5 is the pixel to be
replaced ,is calculated based on the joint occurrence of Local Binary Pattern and Contrast as follows:
Where > for m=1 to n and < for k=1 to (9-n)
V. EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS
The proposed algorithm is tested for various images having the size of 256 x 256. Gray scale images
are used for experimentation. The proposed method is compared with the various conventional histogram
equalization methods . The following images, “hands.jpg”, “boy.jpg”, “couple.jpg” images are used to verify the
performance of the proposed algorithm.

VI. DISCUSSION ANALYSIS
In the present scenario it can easily be understood the need of Enhancing Images. Whether it‟s a visual
for a designer, an artist: who wants a distorted and ugly image? Even a viewer of Cricket Match back at his
home, or a movie enthusiast in a theatre wants lovely looking images. In literature many algorithms are
proposed for image enhancement. In literature most common algorithm is is swarm optimization. But it has
disadvantages such as
The method easily suffers from the partial optimism, which causes the less exact at the regulation of its
speed and the direction.
The method cannot work out the problems of scattering and optimization.
The method cannot work out the problems of non-coordinate system, such as the solution to the energy
field and the moving rules of the particles in the energy field.
Hence to overcome all these problems, Genetic Algorithm is being used in this case. The aim of this dissertation
is to use the fast optimization technique for enhancement of images so as to reduce the processing time and get
effective and accurate results.

VII. CONCLUSION
In this paper, an efficient algorithm based on object mean is implemented. The brightness of the image
is preserved by using BBHE based histogram equalization. Here in our work we are going to enhance images
using histogram equalization of images by reconfiguring there pixel spacing using optimization through GA
(Genetic algorithm). We get more optimized results with the use of GA with respect to other optimized
techniques.
