March Break-Personal Narrative
Summary:
Only one of my friends is in to hiking. The other, well they do not mind it, but they do not get out a
lot. Same with me, I would love to, but it is very rare that I have a full day off, and have people who
want to go with. That why I chose to do my practice journey during my March Break, and told my
friends they had to do it with me. So during the Tuesday (one of the three days I had off work) I
packed a hiking bag, picked them up, grabbed Pita Pit for lunch, and drove up the mountain.
The hike itself was beautiful. The trails were well kept and easy to follow. The weather was cold
enough to keep cool, but not cold enough to freeze you. I wore a hat, hoodie and jacket, and put on

Compare and Contrast As I read through Homer s The Odyssey, and J.R.R Tolkien s The Hobbit, I
immediately noticed several similarities between the two. Of course not only were their things that
they both shared in common, but also things that set them apart from each other. I mean what kind of

In The Hobbit the battle comes at the end of the book and in the Odyssey it is the battle of Troy that
occurs in the beginning of the story that starts our adventure. I think the major theme is that through
perseverance and hard work you can achieve great strides in completing your goal, and that it is only
by relying on others as well as yourself that those goal(s) can be achieved. During these events we can
understand some major plot similarities. Some shared plot points that I discovered while reading. For
instance both adventures are started by another source. In the Odyssey Goddess Athena descends from
the heavens after convincing her father, the Son of Cronus, Zeus to allow Odysseus to return home.
Once she arrives in Ithaca, she sets Telemachus on his adventure to learn more information about his
father whereabouts. This is like Gandalf the Gray arriving in the Shire to set Bilbo on his mission with
Thorin to reclaim the mountain from Smaug. Another major part would be the obstacles that stand in
their way. Mostly in the form of Monsters and other beings. The Odyssey features some creatures
famous in greek mythology such as the Cyclops, Polyphemus, the beasts Scylla and Charybdis, the
Sirens, and the God Helios and Goddesses Circe and Calypso. The Hobbit features classic fantasy
monsters like Giant Spiders, Goblins, Worgs, an Elvish King, and of course a fire breathing Smaug.

towards environmental protection is not practical. This comment relates to the case at hand, as the
bank provided funds to the construction the lines transmitting power to neighbouring countries;

Sonnet Analysis
There always seems to be an impediment when trying to reach a goal, whether it be set by one s self,
or an outside force. In Robert Frost s sonnet, On a Tree Fallen Across the Road , the idea of
unavoidable obstructions that must be conquered is examined. In the poem, the author s journey is
blocked by a fallen tree, and they must determine the best way to get around the tree, so they can
continue towards their goal. Frost presents the use of metaphors and the personification of a fallen tree
to represent the obstacles that must be overcome to reach one s ideal destination.
The sonnet opens with vivid imagery of a fallen tree that blocks the journey of the protagonist. At first
it may appear that the tree is there to permanently block the passage to the destination, when in fact it
is ...to ask us who we think we are . The example of personification demonstrates that this drawback is
not just to prevent someone from travelling towards their destination, but to make them stop and
consider if that is really where they want to end up. This idea can apply to everyone, as most people
have probably experienced a time when all they needed to have a realization about who they are was
an inconvenience.
Throughout the entirety of Frost s sonnet, words like us , we , and our are used. This again is to
establish that the obstacle in the poem applies to every person on earth, and not just the narrator of the

Lately, globalization has created tendency including governance. Thereby, many states have
authorized international institution to intervene and mediate conflicts between global sides so as to
preserve human rights and protect innocent people. However, we occasionally notice that it is not
always the case as it was pretended to be. For instance, it is possible and true that such organizations
can fail to protect human life, even on purpose. United Nation Security Council is entitled to maintain
human rights in the global scale and thus it must intervene into conflicts which comprise threat to

Death of majority of population indicates direct impact of the war in Kosovo that witnessed. The
diseases that have occurred in people was one of these indirect effects. As Josef Martinsen stresses out
that people still suffer from neurologically and physiological diseases which possibly those who have

Frontline with the New York Times reports on one of the largest iron pipe foundry companies,
McWanes Tyler Pipe, and the problem with the company. McWane Inc. was founded by J.R. McWane
in 1921 on the desolate Birmingham Alabama soil. J.R built his water and sewage pipe manufacturing
corporation to now one of the biggest privately owned companies in the nation. Creating water and
sewage pipe by melting metal and casting pipe can be very dangerous and dirty if not handled with the
right process and procedures. However, the workers say that the company ruthlessly tries to increase
production by costing the safety of its workers and has succeeded at this with what McWanes calls
disciplined management practices . This disgusting fact has lead the company to accumulate an
abnormal amount of safety violations that include around 4,600 injuries and 9 deaths. The sad part
about all this is most of the misfortunes have happened in the past couple decades when new age
management and safety practices should have been a top most priority.
Why can t the McWane Corporation get it into their heads that worker safety needs to be a priority?
McWanes top competitor, American Cast Iron Pipe Company (ACIPCO), lives by the rule of worker
safety and is still making a large profit while being one of the top companies to work for in the nation.
