Fort Sumter Essay
Introduction: On the twelfth of April 1861, Union troops had just taken refuge in Fort Sumter under
the cover of darkness. They were out number out gunned and running out of time. The newly formed
Confederate States of America (CSA) had now occupied the five other military installations within the
Garrison. At 0430, the first shot of the American Civil War rang out and Fort Sumter was fast under
the barrage that the surrounding garrison forts occupied by the confederate forces (sumter). Major
Anderson was reluctant to return fire, as his previous orders were not to be the aggressor. The first
shots returned in volley to the confederate forces was by a private under the Major Anderson, who
raced up to the third story of Fort Sumter where the largest artillery guns were loaded and ready to
fire. In following his lead, other soldiers in the fort also began firing on the confederate antagonists
(Civil War Journal: Destiny of Fort Sumter, 1993). Thirty four hours later Major Anderson surrendered
the fort over to General Beauregard without a single loss of life on either side of the battle. However,
death was soon to befall the soldiers of Fort Sumter. Thesis: The complete lack of organized military
and government intelligence solidified the abysmal start to the civil war. If the Union leadership
during the Buchanan administration had anticipated the treachery of the southern officers and leaders
within the federal government then they could have prevented the secession

The Core Capabilities Of Icf
2.2. Architecture Overview
ICF is a multi tiered, service based framework that integrates broad range of technologies covering the
autonomy of a machine to analytical services that are combined with domain specific user interfaces
to form specific battlefield applications [] . This framework can be adapted to other battle command
and robotic control systems to enhance human performance, and can communicate with underlying
control and simulation systems via standard protocols. Underlying ICF provides a generalized
framework that integrates various requisite knowledge bases, knowledge representations, the
applications, machines, to represent a collaborative technology that offers different forms of user
assistance in a holistic manner.
Figure 2: Intelligence and control abstraction layers for ICF
The core capabilities of ICF are designed around three main modules corresponding to the three tiers,
AMM, PES and UI, of human machine collaboration. The adjustable autonomy module (AAM)
contains the reasoning necessary for modeling the human plans and intentions, situation reasoning,
and determining new automation settings. This module covers most of the reasoning requirements
labeled (2a c) in the previous section.
The planning and execution system (PES) contains an abstraction layer for controlling automated
processes, as well as providing the rest of the system access to information generated by the
automated processes, such as sensor readings and asset status

Healthcare Organization
Healthcare Organization s HMO vs. PPO Angela MacLeod, Ifeoma Jonathan HCS 413 April 17, 2011
Jeffery Dodd Healthcare Organization s HMO vs PPO Introduction A health care system is the
organization of people, institutions, and resources to deliver health care services to meet the health
needs of target populations. There are two widely known and used healthcare organizations that
deliver insurance to the vast majority of the population, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO)
and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO). This document will further compare these organizations
in how they communicate, management style, motivation, culture, conflict resolution and ongoing
management development. Communication ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
PPOs allow consumers to seek care outside the network coverage but this allowance attracts extra fee.
PPOs provide prescription services at a reduced cost; have a larger network covering larger
geophysical areas. PPOs management style has advantages over HMOs as they less restrictive and
affords the consumers opportunity to use out of network facilities with prior approval at a cost. PPOs
are located in more geographical areas and makes access easier. Subscribers are not stuck with a PCP
nor require referrals to see providers outside the network. Consumers file for claims for
reimbursement when visit is made to out of network health provider Motivational Methods There are
as many different methods of motivating employees today as there are companies operating in the
global business environment. Still, some strategies are prevalent across all organizations striving to
improve employee motivation. The best employee motivation efforts will focus on what the
employees deem to be important. It may be that employees within the same department of the same
organization will have different motivators. Many organizations today find that flexibility in job
design and reward systems has resulted in employees increased longevity with the company, improved
productivity, and better morale. Conflict Resolution With the need for constant change comes conflict.
There are several strategies for handling conflict, avoidance,

The Mccarthy and the Salem Witch Hunts
The McCarthy Era of the 1950 s and the Salem Witch Trials of the 1600 s were major events in
American history that destroyed the lives and careers of many innocent victims. These tragic events
were similar in that they demonstrated how hard times lead to society s need to find a scapegoat. They
also show the shame and regret that take place after the bloodbaths occur. The parallels between these
two events, which took place almost 300 years apart, are remarkable.
However, the Salem Witchcraft Trials use of human frailty in court helped courts move forward in
eliminating its use. Courts now need factual or circumstantial evidence to convict a person of any
crime and the accused is promised a fair trial. Nowadays, the accused is given ... Show more content

By the early autumn of 1692, the cries of witchcraft began to ebb and doubts began to develop
concerning the validity of the charges. The educated elite of the colony began efforts to end the witch
hunting hysteria that had enveloped Salem. Increase Mather, the father of Cotton, published Cases of
Conscience, which argued that it were better that ten suspected witches should escape than one
innocent person should be condemned. Mather urged the court to exclude spectral evidence. A period
of atonement soon occurred in which Samuel Sewall, one of the judges, issued a public confession of
guilt and apology, and Reverend Parris admitted errors in judgment. He did, however, attempt to shift
the blame to others. Governor Phips shifted the blame to Stoughton, who became the next Governor of
Massachusetts.
However, Miller wrote The Crucible not simply as a straight historical play detailing the Salem witch
trials. Indeed, a good deal of the information in the play misrepresents the literal events of the trial:
John Proctor was not a farmer, not a tavern owner, and during the time of the trials he was sixty years
old and Abigail Williams only eleven. Rather, the play has as much significance as a product of the
early Cold War era in which Miller wrote the play. The play is a parable for the McCarthy era, in
which similar Œwitch hunts occurred targeting citizens as

Operant Conditioning And Continuous Reinforcement
1. Mr. Higginbotham uses the idea of operant conditioning and continuous reinforcement throughout
his classroom. Operant conditioning is the behavior in which voluntary behavior are strengthened or
weakened by consequences, while continuous reinforcement deals with giving a reinforcer after every
response. These reinforcers can be either positive or negative, strengthening or weakening the
behavior that occurred. Positive reinforcements are there to increase the opportunity of a specific
behavior reoccurring and negative reinforcement is strengthening behavior that results in a negative
action. (Woolfolk, 2014, pgs. 277 278). An example in Mr. Higginbotham s class of positive
reinforcement would be during the point in time when he decides to announce that his progress checks
can each be earned towards bonus points on their project and once ten complete progress checks have
occurred the children can also receive a homework pass. Another positive reinforcement is the three
highest scoring students will receive twenty five dollars to their class trip fund for their senior year. A
negative reinforcement is demonstrated in Mr. Higginbotham s class when Susan shows disrespectful
behavior and earns four detentions. These four detentions equal a day of indoor, in school suspension.
So even when students do not want to do their homework the progress report check will help the
students work towards that one homework pass. Both positive and negative reinforcement as

Essay On Presidential Democracy Vs Parliamentary Democracy
Topic: A presidential democracy is more likely to produce strong, effective government than a
parliamentary democracy.
Introduction
The structure of a governments and party systems are of crucial importance for the functioning and
well stable effective government. In this case let s take example of United States and United Kingdom.
Presidential system of United States;
The United State presidential system is a system of government that features a president as the nation
head of state and active chief executive authority. It is associated with the congressional system of
government. In a presidential system, the central principle is that the legislative and executive
branches of government should be separated.
This lead to the separate election by the electorate or an electoral college of the president, who is
elected to office for a fixed term of office, and can only be remove in extreme cases for gross
misdemeanor by impeachment and dismissal. In addition he or she does not need to choose cabinet
members from or commanding the support of a legislative majority.
As with the president set term of office, the legislature also exists for a set term of office and cannot
be dissolve a head schedule. In the president system, the president usually has special privileges in the
enactment of legislation, namely the possession of a power of veto over legislation of bills, in some
cases subject to the power of the legislature by weighed majority to override the veto.
However,

Cassandra C: Finding Clarity and Responsibility as a Mom and a Bioethicist Posted on January 16,
2015 by ugcbioethics by Amy Bloom, Bioethics Program faculty I have been reading the latest news
regarding Cassandra C., the teen with Hodgkin s lymphoma who refused treatment but was forced into
receiving it by a Connecticut Supreme Court ruling. As a mother and a bioethicist, these are the times
when reconciling my personal opinions with my professional experience can be most challenging.
Many of my mom friends were shocked and horrified by the image of a young woman being
restrained to a bed, forced to undergo treatment. They had visions of a screaming pained girl, a mother
helpless to save her child, and big brother dispensing poison to an innocent girl whirled through our
collective mind. From an ethics standpoint, it is generally wrong to force medical treatment on
anyone, particularly when there are cultural and religious factors to be taken into consideration. I am
reminded of cases involving Christian Scientists who believe that any traditional medical intervention
is contrary to their cultural and religious views. Oftentimes, in cases involving a seriously ill child,
parental rights are legally overruled and children are forced

Fight The Fees
Through the on going and persistent support of organizations and various advocates towards increased
access to post secondary education, the Ontario government has introduced an alternative policy that
results in the recreation and reinforcement of neoliberalism and the dominant discourses that prevent
society from dismantling structural inequalities. Michael J. Prince proposes, A notable feature of the
Canadian political landscape is the presence of and interplays between the dominant discourses of
neoliberalism and an alternative discourse of social liberalism, variants of both of which are expressed
by different interests, groups and social movements (2012, p. 487 488). In essence, organizations such
as Fight the Fees, work in multiples ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even so, most people within the $50,000 income bracket are not likely to use these funds regardless
because they are anticipated to have to maintain a full time job in order to survive. This policy does
not cater to part time students that are required to take on multiple responsibilities, such as full time
employment or child care, adding on to the exclusion of individuals. The policy, in fact creates an
even larger barrier towards education, as it does not address tuition hikes, replaces the 30% off tuition
for part time or full time students and voids all available tax credits for schooling fees. Thus, in
relation to Susan Scott s article about homeless women in Canada, it is evident that we create various
systems that work to support the disadvantaged yet in fact, we only dig the hole deeper and in some
cases throw soil down on top further intensifying existing barriers (Scott, 2007, p.305). Therefore, a
massive step towards adequate social change is to educate the population on how to be critical of both
parties, the oppressor and the social advocates, as the outcomes of such forces may not be as desirable
as they are made out to

What Does My Mom Mean To Me
It is a Saturday morning around ten o clock, and I am sitting by the door crying because I do not want
to go to dance. My mom gives me no option and miraculously persuades me to hop in the car, so we
can be on our way. As a child, I was taught that when committed to an activity, quitting was not an
option. During my childhood, my mom introduced me to what would soon become my passions. She
keeps me involved and teaches me important morals and life lessons that I apply everyday. Without
the influence of my mom, I would not be as committed to dancing, finding opportunities through 4 H,
and raising sheep.
Through 4 H I have found my interest in livestock, and most importantly my passion for sheep. I
credit this to my mom who signed me up for Clover Explorers in kindergarten. My mom and aunt
started a 4 H Club called Clover Explorers in 2005. There were lessons, experiments, and games
during our monthly meetings. Towards the end of my Clover Explorer experience, I became ... Show

maintaining my 4.0. I am grateful to have a parent who cares about my future potential as much as my
mom does. When I am having a bad day, or going through a rough time, I have found that my mom
often has the best advice for me. I know that she will never leave my side and has my best interests in
mind. Friends have come and gone recently in my life, but my mom is one person I can count on and

Automobile Comparison
The products ten years ago compared to today s products are completely different. Additionally, these
changes are due to an increase in technology, specifically in cars. However, the older Toyota Camry is
comfortable, reliable, and spacious. Additionally, there are over 10 million Camry s sold worldwide
and over 6 million in the United States. The bells and whistles of modern automobiles compared to
older vehicles like the Toyota Camry is less valuable in terms of reliability and safety.
The bells and whistles of modern automobiles is technology developed by automotive industries.
Although new cars offer numerous technological changes and features like starting itself, regulating
the temperature, and 268 horsepower, there are also dangerous risks. For example, if General Motors
can unlock a car door when the driver accidentally leaves the keys in the car, thieves cannot only hack
a car using technology, but can steal the car without any damage to the vehicle. In other words, a
hacker does not need the typical bat or hammer to break the window and get into a car, just an iPad.
Moreover, when a thief hacks a vehicle while a person is driving and the car suddenly stops, if the
driver is on the freeway, a car could slam directly into the back of the car depending on how close the
vehicle is to the hacked car as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Camry can survive a major car accident and come out with a minor dent. The older Toyota Camry may
not have sensors detecting when a car is about to hit the driver, but at least when a car hits the Toyota
Camry, it will not crumble up like a piece of

Essay traglear King Lear as a Bradley Tragedy
King Lear as a Bradley Tragedy King Lear meets all the requirements of a tragedy as defined by
Andrew Cecil Bradley. Bradley states that a Shakespearean tragedy has to be the story of the hero and
there is exceptional suffering and calamity slowly being worn in. Also, the current time must be
contrasted to happier times. The play also depicts the troubled parts in the hero s life and eventually he
dies instantaneously because of the suffering and calamity. There is the feeling of fear in the play as
well, that makes men see how blind they are not knowing when fortune or something else would be on
them. The hero must be of a high status on the chain and the hero must also possess a tragic flaw that
initiates the tragedy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Due to this flaw, Lear has given way to the two older daughters to conspire against him. Lear is finally
thrown out of his daughters homes and left with a fool, a servant and a beggar. This is when Lear
realizes the mistake that he has made and suffers the banishment of his two eldest daughters. Lear is
caught in a storm and begins to lose his sanity because he can not bear the treatment of his two
daughters as well as the error he has made with Cordelia and Kent. Lear also suffers from lack of rest
when he is moving all over the place and the thing that breaks him is the death of his youngest
daughter, Cordelia. This suffering can be contrasted with other happier times like when Lear was still
king and when he was not banished by his two daughters. The feeling of fear is when Lear is in the
storm raging against the gods, I tax not you, you elements, with unkindness. I never gave you
kingdom, called you children, you owe me no subscription (act #, scene #, line #), telling them to rage
harder since he has not done anything for them and that he didn t deserve what he has received from
his two daughters. The fear is how Lear in a short period of time went from king to just a regular
peasant and from strong and prideful to weak and unconfident. This shows that men do not

1. What specific part of the kidney does the dialysis tubing represent? What is the function of this
part?
It represents the part of the kidney that acts like a semipermeable membrane, the nephrons. The
nephrons are made of membranous tubules that act analogously to the semipermeable dialysis bag.
When blood passes through the tubules, particles in the blood leave the tubule by the process of
diffusion.
2. What does the yellow food color represent at the end of the experiment? What does the Congo red
represent?
The Congo red solution is used to mimic blood and the yellow food color mimics the excretory
product of the kidney. When a mixture of Congo red, yellow food color and water were mixed and
taken in a dialysis bag, the yellow food color diffuses out into the surrounding water in which the
dialysis bag is suspended. At the end of the experiment, the contents in the dialysis bag represent the
blood; the contents of the beaker represent the urine formed. The beaker has a slight yellow tinge that
results from the yellow food color.
3. Why is it important for the kidney to filter

Nurses During The Vietnam War
Nurses that served in the Vietnam War experienced a tremendous amount of horrific tragedies and
stressful events. They are commended for all of the time they served and the dedication to their
country, along with the advice they brought home with them. All of the nurses who signed up for the
war were volunteers. Approximately 7500 US military nurses served in Vietnam during the war
(Scandell 600). Women volunteered for a number of reasons such as to begin a military career, acquire
more nursing training, or to pay for a nursing education. Patriotism and a sense of duty were
ultimately the motivating factors behind their decision. An army nurse summed up these reasons for
volunteering when she said, I had a very good friend die in Vietnam and another friend severely
injured. How could I say, Oh no not me, when the men my age were going. What I thought I should
say was, How come not me. **
From earlier in their lives, girls learned the responsibility of caring for others. While boys played
baseball outside, girls played house inside. They viewed themselves as mothers, sisters, and friends
not as individuals (Norman 7). Nursing then became the logical career choice for women. Once they
arrived in the war zone, Army, Navy, and Air Force nurses experienced professional strains of working
with young, severely wounded casualties who were often younger than them. A Navy nurse recalled,

investment alternatives, whereby they can evaluate the attractiveness of the investment based on net

Making either/or Project Decisions
Virtually all general managers face capital budgeting decisions in the course of their careers. Among
the most common of these is the either/or choice about a capital investment. The following describes
some general guidelines to orient the decision maker in these situations.
1. Focus on cash flows, not profits. One wants to get as close as possible to the economic reality of the
project. Accounting profits contain many kinds of economic fiction. Flows of cash, on the other hand,
are economic facts.
2. Account for time. Time is money. We prefer to receive cash sooner rather than later. Use net present
value as a technique to summarize the quantitative attractiveness of the project. Quite simply, NPV
can be interpreted as the amount by which the market

Research Paper On Marcel Duchamp
I. Marcel Duchamp (1887 1968):
Marcel Duchamp (hereinafter referred to as Duchamp ), was a 20th century French artist. He is
considered to be of the era in which Art and particularly Paintings were influenced by elements such
as constant change, transition, fluidity, movement and distance etc. He s considered as a pioneer of
DADA , a movement that questioned the deep rooted assumptions about what art should be and how it
should be made . He himself was intrigued by the concept of a fourth dimension. He wasn t just a
painter but also a sculptor and writer. He always saw art as evolving and creating new things.
Duchamp reproduced Mona Lisa in 1919 as just a spoof, but it shocked the people of that time and its
final outcome gave birth to a whole new form of Art. The reproduction by Duchamp was titled

Modern Philosophy Of The Modern World And The External World
Lauren Estes
Modern Philosophy
Prof. Corsa As humans, I do not think we know as much as we think we know. Perhaps this is the
reason why in matters of Philosophical research some claim to have discovered the truth, while others
declare that finding it is an impossibility, and other are still seeking it (SE Handout 31). The word
truth in this quote is ambiguous. I believe that we will spend the rest of eternity seeking the truth. The
truth can mean many things to many different people. What is true for you may not be true for me.
Many of the modern philosophers dance around the question, What is real and what is not? Although
there are many arguments for and against the internal world and the external world, I tend to lead
towards the skeptics point of view. I do this on the simple notion that many of the skeptics arguments
are hard to refute. Much like Sextus Empiricus, I argue that we cannot know anything with absolute
certainty about the external world. Those who say that Sceptic deny appearances seem to me to be
ignorant of what we say (SE Handout 38). Sextus Empricus does not deny appearances, he just is
aware that we might not know for certain anything about the external world. Sextus Empiricus infers,

We have already embraced the anytime, anywhere mindset with online/hybrid courses in our high
school. Collaborative spaces and flexible learning options have been created in our media center and
hallways. Community partnerships are being forged to develop authentic learning experiences through
our Work Based Learning program. Finally, BBE schools have multiple programs to support
continuous learning for our students. One example is Jaguars Steps to Success, an afterschool and
summer program for our elementary learners. BBE High School provides a Study Center staffed by
licensed teachers and additional opportunities to gain high school credit.
The natural progression for BBE schools is to develop students that advocate for their own learning.
The only way to accomplish this goal is to develop a system that encourages student voice, utilizes

Importance Of Human Interaction In The Novel The Fault In...
In today s society, human interaction is a must. People crave relationships to fill a void in life, feeding
off of others in order to succeed as well as develop the social skills needed to persevere in the world.
Human interaction (such as building relationships with loved ones) is a very critical and crucial part in
life. In 1932, an experiment by Harry Frederick Harlow a well known psychologist involving rhesus
monkeys was conducted. In this experiment, Harlow and his colleagues separated newborn rhesus
monkeys from their mothers, holding each one in isolation chambers. The study showed that when
placed in total isolation for the first eights months of life, denying all contact with other infants or with
either type of surrogate mother, they were permanently damaged. The need to be accepted and cared
for by another person (or in this case primate) is inevitable. In the novel, The Fault In Our Stars , a
theme surrounding relationships is present and plays a major role in developing the story. John Green
not only shows the effects of cancer and its side effects, he also shows how those detriments on the
one fighting the battle can affect friends and family around them, as well as the importance of building
relationships while you still can. The protagonist, Hazel Grace Lancaster, closes out the world and
everyone in it, in hopes of minimizing her path of destruction that will be made after she dies. On the
other hand, Augustus Waters is the light at the end of her

Growing Up In A Polish Language
Misunderstanding
Most people think languages are different from one another. The languages origin, pronunciation and
grammar. That in fact is not true. Many languages have similarly spelled and pronounced words that
mean the same or similar thing. Most languages around the world use Latin and Greek words, for
example in the medical field but not only. Being a bilingual student I think sharing origins of words
can be very helpful in learning a new language. Growing up in a Polish family, speaking polish,
practing polish culture and tradition made me realize how difficult Polish language is. Many polish
words are composed of letters like; ą, ż, ó, ć. These letters are similar to the ones you can see in a
spanish alphabet. At the age of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In matter of fact I could understand and communicate with more people, compared to my mom. Many
jobs require you to speak more than one language and that is why I have the job I have. Or simply you
can go behind someone else s back so they do not find out what you said. That may be a reason why
many conflicts occur, sometimes by mistake and some on purpose. I am a good example of that. As
my dentist appointment approached. I sat on the examining chair with my mom by my side and was
ready to get my tooth pulled. First I got my teeth cleaned by a family friend dental hygienist, but as a
saw the dentist approaching my direction I realized it was time. Meanwhile the doctor looked

Sweatshops Should Be Outlawed
Sweatshops should be outlawed. Some of the reason that sweatshops should be outlawed are
employment of minors, who required to work long hours, and they are paid low wages. Powell
provides an economic explanation for the presence of sweatshops in the world. The minors work in
deplorable working condition that cause poor health conditions. They perpetuate the violation of basic
human rights as people are exploited for their labor. Today s sweatshops violate our notions of justice,
yet they continue to flourish. This is so because we have not settled on criteria that would allow us to
condemn and do away with them and because the poor working conditions in certain places are
preferable to the alternative of no job at all. Sweatshops also persist ... Show more content on

At the level of the individual worker, sweatshops can be regarded as a blessing of sort, for they might
be the only way for illiterate people lacking marketable skills to enter the global industrial
marketplace. In many less developed countries with large populations, agriculture is the only
economic activity available to people. Sweatshops provide poor people in developing countries with
better outcomes than the alternative of criminal activity (child and adult prostitution). Employable for
only part of the year, outside of the planting and harvesting seasons, there is little for them to do and
they stream into cities looking for work. Sweatshops exist because of a prevailing mindset that
maintains a clear distinction between business and ethics. My perspective is minors shouldn t have to
work at sweatshops, they should be able to work in a clean and safe environment. During school days
no more than four or five hours a day with a legitimate pay wage. In conclusion, Sweatshops should
be outlawed. U.S. have the rights not to face competition from poor third competition from poor third
world workers, and by outlawing competition from third world we can enhance union wages at the
expense of poorer people who work in sweatshops. (Powell,

Be flexible In every country the market conditions are different and require a different approach,
different strategy should be formulated in order to be successful. Keeping these things in mind Tesco
has implemented different strategies in different countries like in France costumers don t believe in
purchasing the food products in a bulk, they used to shop every day and try to get fresh food.
Therefore Tesco entered the Japanese market by getting hold on the discount supermarket operators as
it was very difficult to meet the requirement of the Japanese customers by having the same formats of
hypermarkets.
2. Act local costumers preference should be the first priority for every organisation only then you will
be able to meet the requirement of local costumers. When you enter in a different country the people
over there will be of different culture, the rules and regulations may be different. Tesco understand this
and its strategy of being close to the costumers is the key reason of their success overseas. For ex In
Thailand people doesn t like the western approach of neatly packed products within in a limited area
they mostly prefer to interact directly with the seller and try to choose what they want from a number
of choices. By analysing the costumers behaviour Tesco has opened Rama iv store in Bangkok.
3. Maintain focus Tesco provides a wide variety of products. It greatly emphasis on providing quality

Hamlet s Frustration Essay
Hamlet s Frustration
In order to understand Hamlet, we must understand his frustration. This frustration is most clear in his
famous monologue, famously beginning with the line Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I.
This self condemnation is contrasted by his admiration for the actor of the previous scene, who in a
fiction is able to force his soul to his own conceit. The word soul is an example of metonymy, as the
soul represents the actor s visage, tears, distraction, and voice. Thus Hamlet equates soul with one s
actions, so by his own comparison his soul is weak, as he does not take action against the king. The
second sentence is furthermore a rhetorical question, beginning with, Is it notŠ So clearly ... Show

Instead of being pregnant Hamlet instead admits he can say nothing. Ironically, the same word was
used earlier to describe the actor s cause ( for nothing,/for Hecuba ). Hamlet thus feels completely
impotent in his situation, like a slave. He rhetorically asks himself, Am I a coward?
From cowardice, humiliation results, as Hamlet in his mind s eye is being taunted by Claudius, who is
calling him a villain. The word villain is especially ironic, since clearly Claudius is the villain, the
murderer, and also since a villain is often meant to mean the antagonist of a play. Thus in a sense it is
Hamlet who is the antagonist of the play, working against his noble instincts. Then Hamlet describes
what Claudius does to him, metaphorically breaking his pate across, and plucking out his beard, to
blow it in his face.
These images of humiliation make one imagine a slave master belittling his slave or an abusive parent
scolding his child. Then he decides he deserves this humiliation, saying swounds, I should take it since
he is pigeon livered and lack[s] gall. This is in violent contrast to what Hamlet would do or should
have done: fatted all the region kites with the slave s offal, which is what Hamlet feels Claudius
deserves. The word slave is ironic since this is what Hamlet feels he himself is, indicating that the

The Importance Of Living In A Small Town
Living in a small town is an enjoyable, yet bittersweet experience. I grew up in Winnemucca, one of
the smallest towns in Northern Nevada. The town is unknown to the majority of people who reside out
of its state. I can certainly say that my hometown has been influential on my upbringing. However, my
family has played and continues to influence me as a person. Though small, Winnemucca and my
family has undoubtedly had a huge impact on my growth and has made me into the person I am today.
My family is small, yet incredibly loving and caring. Though my parents have struggled and
sacrificed, they have provided many things to my brother and me; they have always supported us. For
me specifically, this includes giving me the gift of having a buoyant childhood. My regular day, in my
childhood and throughout my teen years consisted of math problems, reading, writing, and art
projects, playing games with my brother outside, basketball, hiking, volunteering, and doing activities
typical small town offers. I will forever appreciate the environment I grew up in because it taught me
to appreciate the little things. I craved one thing though: adventure.
I am lucky enough to say I have had adventures with my family before. I have memories of my family
and I going on trips to islands, our ancestral home in India, and other foreign nations/lands. Still, after
all the journeys, I craved more. But as I grew up more, I concluded that if I am with my family, I will

How Did The Last Plague Of Athens Change His Mind

The next day Moses, Betsy, and Aaron went into Egypt as they got use to the journey.

My Philosophy And Rationale In The Classroom
Philosophy and Rationale The assertiveness is a clear affirmation that both teachers and students are to
be treated with respect (Purkey, 2004, p. 100). My philosophy within the classroom, is creating and
maintaining a sense of respect; a classroom where a mutual respect between myself and the students is
seen among all who enter the classroom environment. However, with this sense of mutual respect,
students should understand that if misbehavior does occur, all students will have a voice, but I have
the ultimate decision of choosing the route we take to ensure that this misbehavior does not occur
again. I also want students to be self aware; understanding that they are in control of their own lives
and that I respect them enough to let them make their own rational decisions. Another key component
in my philosophy of the classroom, is getting to know the students on a personal level. I want to know
about their families, the sports they play, the foods they like to eat, the friends they have, and/or the
church they attend. Based on personal experience, when a teacher takes the time to know you outside
of the classroom, a great bond is built. When the bond is built, a sense of trust in created between the
teacher and student. I want my students to trust me, respect me, but know that I believe in them to
make decisions that are beneficial for themselves; through this, I will respect my students, listen to
them, and support them in the decisions they make. If we set

Anglo Saxon Hero Essay
The period of the Anglo Saxon stretched from 410 to 1066, which was six hundred years. Anglo
Saxon is used to refer to a period of history in Britain, which was the years between the end of Roman

many members of the Germanic peoples. The Angles, Saxons, and Jutes were Germanic people that
the Anglo Saxons descended from. The Anglo Saxon people spoke their own dialects that later became

Social Changes In The American Revolution
The American Revolution raised to fight the lower classes , small artisans having no property and the
poor farmers, who formed the significant colonial population group. The lower classes in particular
were the main driving force of the revolution being hostile towards the gentlemen, who held

freedom. The concepts are the most valuable for the society and its sustainable development.
Nevertheless, despite the fact that independence was the primary aim, the liberation struggle was

all spheres of life. An alteration took place due to the

Battle of Belleau Wood Essay
In March 1918, with nearly 50 additional divisions freed by the Russian surrender on the Eastern
Front, the German Army launched a series of attacks on the Western Front, hoping to defeat the Allies
before U.S. forces could be fully deployed. In the north, the British 5th Army was virtually destroyed
by two major offensive operations, Michael and Georgette around the Somme. A third offensive
launched in May against the French between Soissons and Reims, known as the Third Battle of the
Aisne, saw the Germans reach the north bank of the Marne river at Château Thierry, 95 kilometres (59
mi) from Paris, on 27 May. Two U.S. Army divisions, the 2nd and the 3rd, were thrown into the Allied
effort to stop the Germans. On 31 May, the 3rd Division ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the Marines failed to scout the woods. As a consequence, they missed a regiment of German
infantry dug in, with a network of machine gun nests and artillery.[7] At dawn, the Marine 1st
Battalion, 5th Marines commanded by Major Julius Turrill was to attack Hill 142, but only two
companies were in position. The Marines advanced in waves with bayonets fixed across an open
wheat field that was swept with German machine gun and artillery fire, and many Marines were cut
down.[9][10] Captain Crowther commanding the 67th Company was killed almost immediately.
Captain Hamilton and the 49th Company fought from wood to wood, fighting the entrenched Germans
and overrunning their objective by 6 yards (5.5 m). At this point, Hamilton had lost all five junior
officers, while the 67th had only one commissioned officer alive. Hamilton reorganized the two
companies, establishing strong points and a defensive line.[11] In the German counter attack, then
Gunnery Sergeant Ernest A. Janson who was serving under the name Charles Hoffman repelled an
advance of 12 German soldiers, killing two with his bayonet before the others fled; for this action he
became the first Marine to receive the Medal of Honor in World War I. Also cited for advancing
through enemy fire during the counter attack was then Gunner Henry Hulbert.[12] The rest of the
battalion now arrived and went into action.

The Economy Of Oklahoma During Early Statehood
The economy of Oklahoma during early statehood, from the period 1907 to 1929 can be divided into
two main economic sectors: the economy from the land and the economy from beneath the land. Both
of the economic activities have driven and shaped Oklahoma s history from statehood to now.
Although through most of Oklahoma s history the state s economy has been an extractive economy
using the resources from the land and exporting the raw products out of the state for modest, yet
profitable returns.
As the United States grew in the beginning of the 20th century the demand for meat was always
needed. Fortunately for the young state of Oklahoma the prairie lands of the Great Plains were a
perfect area to feed the numerous heads of animals sent to the butchers that fed America. In 1907,
there were 1,206,800 animals within Oklahoma; nearly all farmers in every country of Oklahoma
raised hogs (Goins and Goble, 171). Oklahoma s ranching economy changed in the youthful years of
statehood as the profession of ranching became more commercialized with intent to maximize the
meat per hoof, which would increase the profit margins (Baird and Goble, 194). One way the ranchers
maximized the meat per hoof was the replacement of Spanish breed longhorn cattle for the heartier
English breed, Hereford (Baird and Goble, 194). Herefords were raised in such numbers that many
referred to Oklahoma as Hereford Heaven (Goins and Goble 172) . As mentioned before plains of
Oklahoma were ideal for grazing

Aristotle s Archetype Of A Tragic Hero
To quote W.H Auden, The truly tragic kind of suffering is the kind produced and defiantly insisted
upon the hero himself. A real tragedy, true suffering, is never resolved, it goes on hopelessly forever.
True suffering takes place in a corner, in an untidy place. Aristotle s tragic hero defines suffering in the
truest form. Aristotle s tragic hero falls from a noble stature due to a disastrous flaw in their
personality and their own fatal choice. Many Shakespearean plays feature a tragic hero. Hamlet is one
of Shakespeare s characters who match Aristotle s archetype of a tragic hero. Hamlet is a man of lofty
position who drives himself to madness and, ultimately, to his own destruction.
A tragic hero is a royal, righteous, or rich individual ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These three components will be met between act III, scene II and the end of the play. An anagnorisis is
an enlightenment that leads the tragic hero from ignorance to knowledge. In act III, scene II, Hamlet
produces a play entitled the Mousetrap. The Mousetrap presents the true story of a murder carried out
in Vienna. He hopes the play will reveal Claudius to indeed be guilty of murdering his father it does.
This realization of his uncle s guilt inspires Hamlet to seek revenge for his father s murder but,
because of his hamartia, he constantly fails. In act IV, scene IV he will recognize his hamartia and
with this new insight, he vows to strive for an ideal of forcefulness, but he fails to enact this as he
continues to overthink and over analyze. Through these critical discoveries and his gradual downfall,
Hamlet realizes his imperfections and how to live life, but in the long run this growth will be useless
because he dies. Hamlet s death will provide the final ingredient to a tragic hero the catharsis. The
catharsis is an emotional climax, evoking a purging of emotions and a strong sense of pity or fear.
When Hamlet is poisoned, the audience is able to sympathize with him as it becomes apparent he is
truly an honorable and compassionate person who is

Atticus Calpurnia Quotes
I am reading To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, and I am on page 208. The book is about a family
living in the time of racism. In this journal I will be explaining and telling you about Atticus finch. G
Atticus Y trial R willing R good father figure R embarrassed Y Calpurnia/Alexandria R who is best for
his children R children s opinion R wants what s best G Atticus is hardworking and truthful Atticus is
the father of Scout and Jem. He works as a lawyer in the town of Maycomb. Atticus has been assigned
to work on a Black mans case. He is charged with assault of raping a white woman. Atticus takes on
the job, but what does everyone else think? The kids around would make fun of Jem and Scout and
say words like, your daddy is supporting the black race and what he has done. The finch family was
embarrassed. This was his job, so he had to do it. Even though that was not the case. The Townspeople
were suspicious about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think Calpurnia is a good mother figure because the kids appreciate her more, and their love for her
is stronger. I think that is most important. As Alexandria comes in she is super awkward, does not
know how to make a good conversation. Scout starts to notice that especially. If you cannot talk to
your supposedly mother figure, then what is the point. Atticus says how she needs more feminine
around the house saying she is getting older so she needs advice on clothes and boys. With Alexandria
I feel scout will not get that. They mention how Alexandria fits in to Maycomb really well, but does
not fit in with Scout and Jem. Now Calpurnia the kids were always exited to see her, as with
Alexandria they did not want her to live with them. Alexandria thinks Calpurnia is too harsh on the
children, but kids need discipline sometimes. In the end they always say how they need Calpurnia, so
it is an obvious Calpurnia is the mother figure Scout and Jem

The Biased View Of Prejudice
Prejudice is a biased view of people of a different culture or race.Prejudice is deeply rooted in human
nature, and lack of interaction between different racial groups also contributes to prejudice.
Also, society s prejudice against a certain group of individuals will cause other people to feel the same
way.
According to Psychologist Gordon Allport, prejudice is an example of normal human thinking. In
other words, prejudice is normal. So as long as humans have common sense or any real thought, there
will always be prejudice one way or another so prejudice cannot and will never be eliminated. As long
as there is no action towards the prejudiceness then prejudice thoughts are just an example of human
thinking.
Prejudice could be due

  • 2. Fort Sumter Essay Introduction: On the twelfth of April 1861, Union troops had just taken refuge in Fort Sumter under the cover of darkness. They were out number out gunned and running out of time. The newly formed Confederate States of America (CSA) had now occupied the five other military installations within the Garrison. At 0430, the first shot of the American Civil War rang out and Fort Sumter was fast under the barrage that the surrounding garrison forts occupied by the confederate forces (sumter). Major Anderson was reluctant to return fire, as his previous orders were not to be the aggressor. The first shots returned in volley to the confederate forces was by a private under the Major Anderson, who raced up to the third story of Fort Sumter where the largest artillery guns were loaded and ready to fire. In following his lead, other soldiers in the fort also began firing on the confederate antagonists (Civil War Journal: Destiny of Fort Sumter, 1993). Thirty four hours later Major Anderson surrendered the fort over to General Beauregard without a single loss of life on either side of the battle. However, death was soon to befall the soldiers of Fort Sumter. Thesis: The complete lack of organized military and government intelligence solidified the abysmal start to the civil war. If the Union leadership during the Buchanan administration had anticipated the treachery of the southern officers and leaders within the federal government then they could have prevented the secession ... • 3. The Core Capabilities Of Icf 2.2. Architecture Overview ICF is a multi tiered, service based framework that integrates broad range of technologies covering the autonomy of a machine to analytical services that are combined with domain specific user interfaces to form specific battlefield applications [] . This framework can be adapted to other battle command and robotic control systems to enhance human performance, and can communicate with underlying control and simulation systems via standard protocols. Underlying ICF provides a generalized framework that integrates various requisite knowledge bases, knowledge representations, the applications, machines, to represent a collaborative technology that offers different forms of user assistance in a holistic manner. Figure 2: Intelligence and control abstraction layers for ICF The core capabilities of ICF are designed around three main modules corresponding to the three tiers, AMM, PES and UI, of human machine collaboration. The adjustable autonomy module (AAM) contains the reasoning necessary for modeling the human plans and intentions, situation reasoning, and determining new automation settings. This module covers most of the reasoning requirements labeled (2a c) in the previous section. The planning and execution system (PES) contains an abstraction layer for controlling automated processes, as well as providing the rest of the system access to information generated by the automated processes, such as sensor readings and asset status ... There are two widely known and used healthcare organizations that deliver insurance to the vast majority of the population, Health Maintenance Organizations (HMO) and Preferred Provider Organizations (PPO). PPOs are located in more geographical areas and makes access easier. Subscribers are not stuck with a PCP nor require referrals to see providers outside the network. Consumers file for claims for reimbursement when visit is made to out of network health provider Motivational Methods There are as many different methods of motivating employees today as there are companies operating in the global business environment. Still, some strategies are prevalent across all organizations striving to improve employee motivation. The best employee motivation efforts will focus on what the employees deem to be important. It may be that employees within the same department of the same organization will have different motivators. • 5. The Mccarthy and the Salem Witch Hunts The McCarthy Era of the 1950 s and the Salem Witch Trials of the 1600 s were major events in American history that destroyed the lives and careers of many innocent victims. These tragic events were similar in that they demonstrated how hard times lead to society s need to find a scapegoat. They also show the shame and regret that take place after the bloodbaths occur. The parallels between these two events, which took place almost 300 years apart, are remarkable. However, the Salem Witchcraft Trials use of human frailty in court helped courts move forward in eliminating its use. Courts now need factual or circumstantial evidence to convict a person of any crime and the accused is promised a fair trial. Nowadays, the accused is given ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By the early autumn of 1692, the cries of witchcraft began to ebb and doubts began to develop concerning the validity of the charges. The educated elite of the colony began efforts to end the witch hunting hysteria that had enveloped Salem. Increase Mather, the father of Cotton, published Cases of Conscience, which argued that it were better that ten suspected witches should escape than one innocent person should be condemned. Mather urged the court to exclude spectral evidence. A period of atonement soon occurred in which Samuel Sewall, one of the judges, issued a public confession of guilt and apology, and Reverend Parris admitted errors in judgment. He did, however, attempt to shift the blame to others. Governor Phips shifted the blame to Stoughton, who became the next Governor of Massachusetts. However, Miller wrote The Crucible not simply as a straight historical play detailing the Salem witch trials. Indeed, a good deal of the information in the play misrepresents the literal events of the trial: John Proctor was not a farmer, not a tavern owner, and during the time of the trials he was sixty years old and Abigail Williams only eleven. Rather, the play has as much significance as a product of the early Cold War era in which Miller wrote the play. The play is a parable for the McCarthy era, in which similar Œwitch hunts occurred targeting citizens as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Operant Conditioning And Continuous Reinforcement 1. Mr. Higginbotham uses the idea of operant conditioning and continuous reinforcement throughout his classroom. Operant conditioning is the behavior in which voluntary behavior are strengthened or weakened by consequences, while continuous reinforcement deals with giving a reinforcer after every response. These reinforcers can be either positive or negative, strengthening or weakening the behavior that occurred. Positive reinforcements are there to increase the opportunity of a specific behavior reoccurring and negative reinforcement is strengthening behavior that results in a negative action. (Woolfolk, 2014, pgs. 277 278). An example in Mr. Higginbotham s class of positive reinforcement would be during the point in time when he decides to announce that his progress checks can each be earned towards bonus points on their project and once ten complete progress checks have occurred the children can also receive a homework pass. Another positive reinforcement is the three highest scoring students will receive twenty five dollars to their class trip fund for their senior year. A negative reinforcement is demonstrated in Mr. Higginbotham s class when Susan shows disrespectful behavior and earns four detentions. These four detentions equal a day of indoor, in school suspension. So even when students do not want to do their homework the progress report check will help the students work towards that one homework pass. Both positive and negative reinforcement as continuous ... • 8. Essay On Presidential Democracy Vs Parliamentary Democracy Topic: A presidential democracy is more likely to produce strong, effective government than a parliamentary democracy. Introduction The structure of a governments and party systems are of crucial importance for the functioning and well stable effective government. In this case let s take example of United States and United Kingdom. Presidential system of United States; The United State presidential system is a system of government that features a president as the nation head of state and active chief executive authority. It is associated with the congressional system of government. In a presidential system, the central principle is that the legislative and executive branches of government should be separated. This lead to the separate election by the electorate or an electoral college of the president, who is elected to office for a fixed term of office, and can only be remove in extreme cases for gross misdemeanor by impeachment and dismissal. In addition he or she does not need to choose cabinet members from or commanding the support of a legislative majority. The Case of Cassandra C: Finding Clarity and Responsibility as a Mom and a Bioethicist Posted on January 16, 2015 by ugcbioethics by Amy Bloom, Bioethics Program faculty I have been reading the latest news regarding Cassandra C., the teen with Hodgkin s lymphoma who refused treatment but was forced into receiving it by a Connecticut Supreme Court ruling. As a mother and a bioethicist, these are the times when reconciling my personal opinions with my professional experience can be most challenging. Many of my mom friends were shocked and horrified by the image of a young woman being restrained to a bed, forced to undergo treatment. They had visions of a screaming pained girl, a mother helpless to save her child, and big brother dispensing poison to an innocent girl whirled through our collective mind. From an ethics standpoint, it is generally wrong to force medical treatment on anyone, particularly when there are cultural and religious factors to be taken into consideration. I am reminded of cases involving Christian Scientists who believe that any traditional medical intervention is contrary to their cultural and religious views. Oftentimes, in cases involving a seriously ill child, parental rights are legally overruled and children are forced ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The policy, in fact creates an even larger barrier towards education, as it does not address tuition hikes, replaces the 30% off tuition for part time or full time students and voids all available tax credits for schooling fees. Thus, in relation to Susan Scott s article about homeless women in Canada, it is evident that we create various systems that work to support the disadvantaged yet in fact, we only dig the hole deeper and in some cases throw soil down on top further intensifying existing barriers (Scott, 2007, p.305). For example, if General Motors can unlock a car door when the driver accidentally leaves the keys in the car, thieves cannot only hack a car using technology, but can steal the car without any damage to the vehicle. In other words, a hacker does not need the typical bat or hammer to break the window and get into a car, just an iPad. Bradley states that a Shakespearean tragedy has to be the story of the hero and there is exceptional suffering and calamity slowly being worn in. Also, the current time must be contrasted to happier times. The play also depicts the troubled parts in the hero s life and eventually he dies instantaneously because of the suffering and calamity. There is the feeling of fear in the play as well, that makes men see how blind they are not knowing when fortune or something else would be on them. The hero must be of a high status on the chain and the hero must also possess a tragic flaw that initiates the tragedy. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is when Lear realizes the mistake that he has made and suffers the banishment of his two eldest daughters. Lear is caught in a storm and begins to lose his sanity because he can not bear the treatment of his two daughters as well as the error he has made with Cordelia and Kent. Lear also suffers from lack of rest when he is moving all over the place and the thing that breaks him is the death of his youngest daughter, Cordelia. This suffering can be contrasted with other happier times like when Lear was still king and when he was not banished by his two daughters. The feeling of fear is when Lear is in the storm raging against the gods, I tax not you, you elements, with unkindness. I never gave you kingdom, called you children, you owe me no subscription (act #, scene #, line #), telling them to rage harder since he has not done anything for them and that he didn t deserve what he has received from his two daughters. What specific part of the kidney does the dialysis tubing represent? What is the function of this part? It represents the part of the kidney that acts like a semipermeable membrane, the nephrons. They are commended for all of the time they served and the dedication to their country, along with the advice they brought home with them. All of the nurses who signed up for the war were volunteers. Approximately 7500 US military nurses served in Vietnam during the war (Scandell 600). Women volunteered for a number of reasons such as to begin a military career, acquire more nursing training, or to pay for a nursing education. Patriotism and a sense of duty were ultimately the motivating factors behind their decision. An army nurse summed up these reasons for volunteering when she said, I had a very good friend die in Vietnam and another friend severely injured. While boys played baseball outside, girls played house inside. They viewed themselves as mothers, sisters, and friends not as individuals (Norman 7). • 22. Modern Philosophy Of The Modern World And The External World Lauren Estes Modern Philosophy Prof. Corsa As humans, I do not think we know as much as we think we know. Perhaps this is the reason why in matters of Philosophical research some claim to have discovered the truth, while others declare that finding it is an impossibility, and other are still seeking it (SE Handout 31). The word truth in this quote is ambiguous. I believe that we will spend the rest of eternity seeking the truth. The truth can mean many things to many different people. What is true for you may not be true for me. Many of the modern philosophers dance around the question, What is real and what is not? Although there are many arguments for and against the internal world and the external world, I tend to lead towards the skeptics point of view. I do this on the simple notion that many of the skeptics arguments are hard to refute. Much like Sextus Empiricus, I argue that we cannot know anything with absolute certainty about the external world. Those who say that Sceptic deny appearances seem to me to be ignorant of what we say (SE Handout 38). Sextus Empricus does not deny appearances, he just is aware that we might not know for certain anything about the external world. Sextus Empiricus infers, honey appears to use to have a sweetening quality. This much we can concede, because it affects us with a sensation of sweetness. The question, however, is whether it is sweet in an absolute sense (SE Handout 38). Skeptics are not crazy humans that simply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 24. Importance Of Human Interaction In The Novel The Fault In... In today s society, human interaction is a must. People crave relationships to fill a void in life, feeding off of others in order to succeed as well as develop the social skills needed to persevere in the world. Human interaction (such as building relationships with loved ones) is a very critical and crucial part in life. In 1932, an experiment by Harry Frederick Harlow a well known psychologist involving rhesus monkeys was conducted. In this experiment, Harlow and his colleagues separated newborn rhesus monkeys from their mothers, holding each one in isolation chambers. The study showed that when placed in total isolation for the first eights months of life, denying all contact with other infants or with either type of surrogate mother, they were permanently damaged. The need to be accepted and cared for by another person (or in this case primate) is inevitable. In the novel, The Fault In Our Stars , a theme surrounding relationships is present and plays a major role in developing the story. John Green not only shows the effects of cancer and its side effects, he also shows how those detriments on the one fighting the battle can affect friends and family around them, as well as the importance of building relationships while you still can. The protagonist, Hazel Grace Lancaster, closes out the world and everyone in it, in hopes of minimizing her path of destruction that will be made after she dies. Some of the reason that sweatshops should be outlawed are employment of minors, who required to work long hours, and they are paid low wages. Powell provides an economic explanation for the presence of sweatshops in the world. The minors work in deplorable working condition that cause poor health conditions. They perpetuate the violation of basic human rights as people are exploited for their labor. Today s sweatshops violate our notions of justice, yet they continue to flourish. Sweatshops provide poor people in developing countries with better outcomes than the alternative of criminal activity (child and adult prostitution). Employable for only part of the year, outside of the planting and harvesting seasons, there is little for them to do and they stream into cities looking for work. Sweatshops exist because of a prevailing mindset that maintains a clear distinction between business and ethics. My perspective is minors shouldn t have to work at sweatshops, they should be able to work in a clean and safe environment. • 30. Hamlet s Frustration Essay Hamlet s Frustration In order to understand Hamlet, we must understand his frustration. This frustration is most clear in his famous monologue, famously beginning with the line Oh what a rogue and peasant slave am I. This self condemnation is contrasted by his admiration for the actor of the previous scene, who in a fiction is able to force his soul to his own conceit. The word soul is an example of metonymy, as the soul represents the actor s visage, tears, distraction, and voice. Thus Hamlet equates soul with one s actions, so by his own comparison his soul is weak, as he does not take action against the king. The second sentence is furthermore a rhetorical question, beginning with, Is it notŠ So clearly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Instead of being pregnant Hamlet instead admits he can say nothing. Ironically, the same word was used earlier to describe the actor s cause ( for nothing,/for Hecuba ). Hamlet thus feels completely impotent in his situation, like a slave. He rhetorically asks himself, Am I a coward? From cowardice, humiliation results, as Hamlet in his mind s eye is being taunted by Claudius, who is calling him a villain. The word villain is especially ironic, since clearly Claudius is the villain, the murderer, and also since a villain is often meant to mean the antagonist of a play. Thus in a sense it is Hamlet who is the antagonist of the play, working against his noble instincts. Then Hamlet describes what Claudius does to him, metaphorically breaking his pate across, and plucking out his beard, to blow it in his face. These images of humiliation make one imagine a slave master belittling his slave or an abusive parent scolding his child. Then he decides he deserves this humiliation, saying swounds, I should take it since he is pigeon livered and lack[s] gall. This is in violent contrast to what Hamlet would do or should have done: fatted all the region kites with the slave s offal, which is what Hamlet feels Claudius deserves. However, with this sense of mutual respect, students should understand that if misbehavior does occur, all students will have a voice, but I have the ultimate decision of choosing the route we take to ensure that this misbehavior does not occur again. The primary issue that was changed by the Revolution was the overall freedom. The concepts are the most valuable for the society and its sustainable development. Nevertheless, despite the fact that independence was the primary aim, the liberation struggle was combined with the movement for social reforms, economic reforms and elimination of the old order in all spheres of life. • 43. Battle of Belleau Wood Essay In March 1918, with nearly 50 additional divisions freed by the Russian surrender on the Eastern Front, the German Army launched a series of attacks on the Western Front, hoping to defeat the Allies before U.S. forces could be fully deployed. In the north, the British 5th Army was virtually destroyed by two major offensive operations, Michael and Georgette around the Somme. A third offensive launched in May against the French between Soissons and Reims, known as the Third Battle of the Aisne, saw the Germans reach the north bank of the Marne river at Château Thierry, 95 kilometres (59 mi) from Paris, on 27 May. Two U.S. Army divisions, the 2nd and the 3rd, were thrown into the Allied effort to stop the Germans. On 31 May, the 3rd Division ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the Marines failed to scout the woods. As a consequence, they missed a regiment of German infantry dug in, with a network of machine gun nests and artillery.[7] At dawn, the Marine 1st Battalion, 5th Marines commanded by Major Julius Turrill was to attack Hill 142, but only two companies were in position. The Marines advanced in waves with bayonets fixed across an open wheat field that was swept with German machine gun and artillery fire, and many Marines were cut down.[9][10] Captain Crowther commanding the 67th Company was killed almost immediately. Captain Hamilton and the 49th Company fought from wood to wood, fighting the entrenched Germans and overrunning their objective by 6 yards (5.5 m). At this point, Hamilton had lost all five junior officers, while the 67th had only one commissioned officer alive. Hamilton reorganized the two companies, establishing strong points and a defensive line.[11] In the German counter attack, then Gunnery Sergeant Ernest A. Janson who was serving under the name Charles Hoffman repelled an advance of 12 German soldiers, killing two with his bayonet before the others fled; for this action he became the first Marine to receive the Medal of Honor in World War I. Also cited for advancing through enemy fire during the counter attack was then Gunner Henry Hulbert.[12] The rest of the battalion now arrived and went into action. ... • 44. The Economy Of Oklahoma During Early Statehood The economy of Oklahoma during early statehood, from the period 1907 to 1929 can be divided into two main economic sectors: the economy from the land and the economy from beneath the land. Both of the economic activities have driven and shaped Oklahoma s history from statehood to now. Although through most of Oklahoma s history the state s economy has been an extractive economy using the resources from the land and exporting the raw products out of the state for modest, yet profitable returns. As the United States grew in the beginning of the 20th century the demand for meat was always needed. Fortunately for the young state of Oklahoma the prairie lands of the Great Plains were a perfect area to feed the numerous heads of animals sent to the butchers that fed America. In 1907, there were 1,206,800 animals within Oklahoma; nearly all farmers in every country of Oklahoma raised hogs (Goins and Goble, 171). Oklahoma s ranching economy changed in the youthful years of statehood as the profession of ranching became more commercialized with intent to maximize the meat per hoof, which would increase the profit margins (Baird and Goble, 194). One way the ranchers maximized the meat per hoof was the replacement of Spanish breed longhorn cattle for the heartier English breed, Hereford (Baird and Goble, 194). Herefords were raised in such numbers that many referred to Oklahoma as Hereford Heaven (Goins and Goble 172) . As mentioned before plains of Oklahoma were ideal for grazing ... • 45. Aristotle s Archetype Of A Tragic Hero To quote W.H Auden, The truly tragic kind of suffering is the kind produced and defiantly insisted upon the hero himself. A real tragedy, true suffering, is never resolved, it goes on hopelessly forever. True suffering takes place in a corner, in an untidy place. Aristotle s tragic hero defines suffering in the truest form. Aristotle s tragic hero falls from a noble stature due to a disastrous flaw in their personality and their own fatal choice. Many Shakespearean plays feature a tragic hero. Hamlet is one of Shakespeare s characters who match Aristotle s archetype of a tragic hero. Hamlet is a man of lofty position who drives himself to madness and, ultimately, to his own destruction. A tragic hero is a royal, righteous, or rich individual ... An anagnorisis is an enlightenment that leads the tragic hero from ignorance to knowledge. In act III, scene II, Hamlet produces a play entitled the Mousetrap. The Mousetrap presents the true story of a murder carried out in Vienna. He hopes the play will reveal Claudius to indeed be guilty of murdering his father it does. This realization of his uncle s guilt inspires Hamlet to seek revenge for his father s murder but, because of his hamartia, he constantly fails. In act IV, scene IV he will recognize his hamartia and with this new insight, he vows to strive for an ideal of forcefulness, but he fails to enact this as he continues to overthink and over analyze. Through these critical discoveries and his gradual downfall, Hamlet realizes his imperfections and how to live life, but in the long run this growth will be useless because he dies. Hamlet s death will provide the final ingredient to a tragic hero the catharsis. The catharsis is an emotional climax, evoking a purging of emotions and a strong sense of pity or fear. When Hamlet is poisoned, the audience is able to sympathize with him as it becomes apparent he is truly an honorable and compassionate person who is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He works as a lawyer in the town of Maycomb. Atticus has been assigned to work on a Black mans case. He is charged with assault of raping a white woman. Atticus takes on the job, but what does everyone else think? The kids around would make fun of Jem and Scout and say words like, your daddy is supporting the black race and what he has done. The finch family was embarrassed. This was his job, so he had to do it. Even though that was not the case. The Townspeople were suspicious about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I think Calpurnia is a good mother figure because the kids appreciate her more, and their love for her is stronger. I think that is most important. As Alexandria comes in she is super awkward, does not know how to make a good conversation. Scout starts to notice that especially. If you cannot talk to your supposedly mother figure, then what is the point. Atticus says how she needs more feminine around the house saying she is getting older so she needs advice on clothes and boys. With Alexandria I feel scout will not get that. They mention how Alexandria fits in to Maycomb really well, but does not fit in with Scout and Jem. Now Calpurnia the kids were always exited to see her, as with Alexandria they did not want her to live with them. Alexandria thinks Calpurnia is too harsh on the children, but kids need discipline sometimes. In the end they always say how they need Calpurnia, so it is an obvious Calpurnia is the mother figure Scout and Jem ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Biased View Of Prejudice Prejudice is a biased view of people of a different culture or race.Prejudice is deeply rooted in human nature, and lack of interaction between different racial groups also contributes to prejudice. Also, society s prejudice against a certain group of individuals will cause other people to feel the same way. According to Psychologist Gordon Allport, prejudice is an example of normal human thinking. In other words, prejudice is normal. So as long as humans have common sense or any real thought, there will always be prejudice one way or another so prejudice cannot and will never be eliminated. As long as there is no action towards the prejudiceness then prejudice thoughts are just an example of human thinking. Prejudice could be due ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
