What Is Adolf Hitler A Tyrant
Adolf Hitler was a German dictator during World War II. Nicknamed Der FГ
јhrer , meaning The
Leader, Hitler lead his country into a time of great pride, which also led to a time of darkness. A
time of killing, deprivation, and fear. Hitler s mission was to take over the world and begin the
Third Reich that was to last a thousand years. However, Hitler s reign only lasted a few years
before being dismantled by the allied powers. Hitler was truly a ruthless dictator and a terrible
tyrant. Adolf Hitlerwas born on April 20, 1889 in Braunau am Inn, Austria. Hitler was the fourth of
six children of Alois Hitler and Klara Polzl. As a young boy, Hitler was very interested in politics
and German nationalism, despite the fact that he was Austrian.

Growing Number of Electric Power Grids
The existing electric power grids face new challenges with the growing economies that are
dependent on electricity. These challenges put the ability of the current electric power grids at
risks of being able to deliver efficient, reliable and clean power energy to meet the demand of the
growing economies. The reliability of the existing electric power girds during peak load conditions
is ensured mainly by having excessive power capacity in the whole system [1]. Excessive power
capacity necessitates turning on peaker plants which are environmentally unfriendly and also
expensive. Conversely, when the average demand is much lower than the peak load, then the need
for energy storage becomes a necessity. A key solution to the energy storage and wastage problems
is offered by renewable energy sources; however, their integration with the existing grids comes
with a set of barriers such as the intermittency of generation and the high level of distribution of the
sources and the lack of proven distribution control algorithms to manage such a highly distributed
generation base [2]. In such situation, the use of communication and information technologies is
attractive to match the demand to the available supply and dramatically improve performance and
efficiency. A smart grid is an intelligent electricity network that integrates the actions of all users
connected to it and makes use of advanced information, control, and communications technologies
to save energy, reduce cost and

Government s Intervention On Healthcare System
Tsebelis (1995) offered veto player framework to understand why public policy changes in
particular political system. This framework offers more detail explanation on the public policy
changes than other institutional theory, because veto player framework focuses on the actor instead
of the institutions. This paper reviews three articles on welfare state s policychange. Using the veto
player framework, the three articles give the similar conclusion that in order to change the public
policy, we should understand the number and position of veto points (Immergut, 1990) whether it
is on the executive, legislative or electoral, so we can construct the best strategies to propose the
change, the institutional design (Immergut, 1990; Huber, Rubin and Stephen, 1993) and the
common belief system among the players (Kremer, 2006). Immergut s (1990) article tries to
investigate how the professional group can influence the health care s policy change in Switzerland,
France and Sweden. Immergut chooses the three case studies because the three countries have
different governments intervention on healthcare system. The Swiss healthcare system is the most
independence among the three. On the other hand, the government regulates the French healthcare
system in terms of arrangements in doctor s fee. And the Swedish government is the most
centralized among them, because most of the doctors work for the government s hospitals. Using
the institutional and veto points framework,

What Is The Difference Between The Trombone And The Tua
A lot of people who don t really know much about instruments say that all instruments look the
same, especially the trombone and the tuba. Of course, some people who have brains know that
they are very different from each other, or are they? For the few people that are still reading this
and are actually wondering what the heck is the difference between the trombone and the tuba then
prepare. First, the history of the two instruments goes back centuries, and although the two are
somewhat related, the variations that they are available in suggesting otherwise. The trombone, for
example, can come in a abundance of different shapes and sizes, though they typically come in five
sizes. The trombone s history tells a tale of mystery. Early orchestras

Penetration Testing Or Pen Testing Essay
Penetration testing
Introduction: Penetration testing or Pen testing is to find the vulnerabilities that an attacker could
exploit a network, web application or a computer. It is generally an attack on a computer looking
for security weaknesses, potentially gaining access to the computer s features and data.
The main purpose of penetration testing is to determine the security weaknesses in a system. Pen
testing can also be used to test an organization s security policy agreement, its employees security
awareness and the organization s ability to identify and respond to security incidents. Pen tests are
sometimes called as white hat attacks as the good guys are attempting to break in. Pen testing can
be done by automated software applications or can be tested manually. In both ways, the process is
same. Following are the strategies included in penetration testing:
Targeted testing
Performed by company s IT team and pen testing team working together. Referred as lights turned
on approach as everyone can see the test being carried out.
External testing
This testing will target on external devices or server including E mail servers, domain name
servers, web servers or firewalls. The objective is to find out how far outside attacker can get in
when they ve gained the access.
Internal testing
This test will simulate an inside attack behind the firewall done by an authorized user who is
having standard access

Indirect Characterization In Simon Elkeles Rules Of...
We get to know people in many different ways. Whether it s through their words, deeds appearance,
or reputation, we are acquainted to others through indirect characterization. In Rules of Attraction,
by Simon Elkeles, the author uses indirect characterization to reveal the main character s
personality. The protagonist, Carlos Fuentes, is shown to be cultural, arrogant, and obnoxious, but
has a hidden kind side. The reader is shown that Carlos stays true to his Mexican culture through
various types of indirect characterization. At the beginning of the story, Carlos introduces himself
to others by saying, Me llamo Carlos. (Elkeles p.25). Here, the author begins to use indirect
characterization to expose Carlos s personality by using Carlos s... Show more content on

These particular traits are shown through one main method of indirect characterization, the
thoughts and words of others. Elkeles shows one of Carlos s negative traits by giving the reader a
peek into a secondary character s mind, He [Carlos] is so obnoxious. (p.33). Here it is made
obvious that, in addition to other traits, Carlos is blatantly obnoxious and rude through indirect
characterization. However, later in the story, the same character says to Carlos, You pretty
much succeed in being a jerk most of time, but you ve got potential. (Elkeles p.144). Again, the
author used indirect characterization, specifically the words of other characters, to show Carlos
s personality. Rather than exposing the unpleasant nature of Carlos s character, this time Elkeles
displays the likability of it.. This likability is further enforced in a secondary character s
thoughts near the end of the book, When he [Carlos] played soccer with my brother, and I saw a
glimpse of generosity that he only gifts to the few he thinks are worthy, I knew that what you see
isn t necessarily what you get when it comes to Carlos. (Elkeles p.225). Elkeles, by using indirect
characterization once more, makes the sweet kind hearted side of Carlos apparent to the

Media and Its Effects on Society

English 225, Section 23
Final Paper Draft 1 The media is an obvious factor in the increase of violence, risky behavior, and
obesity in kids in our society. Television programs and movies are becoming more and more
violent, and more abundant to fulfill the demand for an overly desensitized audience. For any type
of television show or movie to be considered good and entertaining it must excel in at least 3
categories: blood and guts, curse words, and the most important element of all how believable are
the scenarios. The good guy must prevail, even if it means murdering 25 men in order to rescue
the super hot defenseless heiress. It s sad really, for some it is engaging and entertaining as long as

A survey of 2,000 3rd graders showed that as the number of hours of television viewing
increased, so did the rates of anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress (Rao,79). Some
babysitter huh? Television programs create false perceptions of the real world. Often times
children will become fearful of the real world and expect that something bad will happen to
them (How TV Affects Your Child, Par. 10). Many parents think that they can explain away the
frightening scenes that children watch, but unfortunately frightening TV scenes have an
immediate impact on kids: 62% of parents report that their children have at some point been
scared that something they saw in a TV program or movie might happen to them (Rao, 80).
Another very sad problem that too much television is creating is that in most cases children
watch television alone. Teenagers with very few friends often create substitute friendships, also
know as parasocial friendships (71). Television does not educate children on how to integrate
and contribute to society in healthy ways. Often times children are bombarded with messages
like, its cool to smoke, its cool to drink, have sex with whoever you want as long as their hot, and
its okay to beat someone up as long as you re the good guy. How can we possibly be creating a
clear and decisive message about the types of

The Vanishing Woman
Justice and the legal system were difficult and malleable forces during Defoe s lifetime, continually
shifting and updating. At the time of the Restoration in 1600 there were 50 capital statutes, which
rapidly rose to over 200 by the early 19th century. These shifts of identity in the judicial system are
also apparent in the anxieties of the Augustan period in relation to criminals and, in particular,
female criminals. The presence of female criminals in contemporary society has been studied by
Malcolm Feeley and Deborah Little in their publication The Vanishing Woman
(date) which
suggests there was a marked decrease of female criminals between 1660 and 1800; in contrast,
Peter King suggests that there is no explicit decrease and that Feeley... Show more content on

The name signals promiscuity and a more general dishonesty, both of which are aspects of Moll
s characterisation that shape her identity, or her lack of identity. When recalling the creation of
the identity of Moll Flanders , she confesses that she could never learn how they came to give
me the name, or what the occasion of it was (page) as well as emphasising the fact the name had
been bestowed upon her by her fellow criminals, thereby highlighting the illicit nature and
connotations of the name. Similarly, Defoe chooses to have the name Roxana bestowed upon his
protagonist by another person in the central scene of the Turkish dance in Roxana. In Defoe s
contemporary society, Roxana (like Moll) was a fairly common name that emphasises the vague
foundations of their identities; but whereas Moll prompts associations of sexual promiscuity and
falsities, Roxana is said to evoke the image of harems and exotic, beautiful women. (footnote) Both
of these definitions are comparatively othering, and yet suggest ways in which both of Defoe s
female protagonists are regarded by

Some Stereotypical Jobs for Woman
A woman s only job is to stay at home, take care of her family, and pleasure her man. What is a
man s job? Men, they do everything, quoted a fellow male classmate, Men get the real money.
But it is the twenty first century! Women are no longer expected to stay at home; they have
taken roles as teachers, doctors, C.E.O.s, part of the military, and the list goes on. As for men, it
is now acceptable for them to stay at home, take care of their families or even become nannies and
nurses. Will Meek, creator of website Psychology of Men , defined genderrole as a set of attitudes,
behaviors, and self presentation methods ascribed to members of a certain biological sex. Gender

Make your personal appearance just as beautiful as possible (Hill s Manual of Social and Business
Forms, 1888). It didn t really matter whether she was happy or not. A womans purpose in life was
to obey her family and her husband s family and make them pleased. A man s purpose in life was
also to please his family by becoming someone important and bringing his family satisfaction
and honor. They were told what to become and didn t exactly have a choice; they had to obey by
what their families wanted. In some cases, this still stands today, but some families aren t as harsh
and are a little more lenient. He was also to provide nourishment and shelter for his wife and
children. Society back then would laugh and judge a man that obeys his wife and puts her before
himself. They would look down to a man that would rather become a nurse rather than a politician.
They expected a man to be in control. Families back then wanted to birth males so that they can
expand the family name and gain power. The males represented the family as whole, whereas the
females represented their husbands and their kids. Neither men nor women continued to be what
society wanted them to be. The shift in women s roles was a turning point in American culture in
the late nineteenth century. They started fighting for their equality and proving that they are worth
more than a man s property. Women began their fight in 1848 with the fight for women suffrage.

The Holocaust And The Rwanda Genocide
The mind of a survivor of genocide can be various, violent, confused, or blank, it can scar the
mind indefinitely or not. Not only are the conductors of the kill spree are scary, but even the
victims can be just as terrifying. Two examples of genocide are the Holocaust and the Rwanda
Genocide, both of which gives off long ranges of psychological effects on the mind of those who
survive. Survivors struggle through the tragic events with the hope they would soon find and
be with their loved ones. So how does a survivor survive the experience of genocide? Although
survival is key during the event of a mass genocide, the experience victims go through can wreak
havoc upon the mindset, go into depression or even sometimes to help them strive to a better
future. The experience of a mass genocide can change a person, for the better or for the worse,
many go under much stress, go through symptoms such as PTSD and become scarred mentally
and/or physically. At the end of the Holocaust in World War II, survivors contained poor
psychological well being, mental scars for which they experience PTSD or post traumatic
symptoms. After having to go through the experience of genocide, survivors go through many
phases, and mental and physical symptoms and PTSD is one of many symptoms survivors can go
through. (Holocaust) ( Psychological Pain of Survivors par.8) One way survivors coped with the
prolonged horrors of the Holocaust was to sustain the hope of reuniting with their families. As

Holy Sonnet 14 Analysis
Holy Sonnet 14 presents the struggle between following one s faith and the alluring baseness of the
human experience. This work fixates on the ties the speaker has to Satan, and the inability to break
those ties without God s intervention. A vein of nearly mad desperation courses through the poem
from submissive start to subjugated end, culminating in a pained, almost violent plea for Godto
ravish him. One can see how the speaker s desolation builds; he longs for God to break him down
and repair him, raise him up and make [him] new in the first quatrain, but by the finalcouplet he
embraces imprisonment, razing and ravishing. He believes himself unworthy of deliverance in
such a far fallen state, requiring trial and punishment before he can again live in the lord s light. An
initial hopefulness tempers the anguish of the opening quatrain, and the speaker obviously feels as
if God can still mend his corrupted heart. His restoration to a more holy image requires submission
to the agony of liberation from sin. An erratic syntax littered with trochees, spondees, and anapests
indicates a mercurial, near frenzied quality to his plea. Donne does not employ a single straight
iambic line in the entire poem; BAT ter , a trochee, punctuates the opening line, blunt and rough.
This imperative moodof the first verb establishes the urgency of the first quatrain, and the subtle
continuance of imperative verbs displays the prevailing tone of pleading, anxious desire for
salvation.

Cybercrime Has Become One Of The Most Threatening Issues
Cybercrime has become one of the most threatening issues not only for the security of the United
States (U.S.) but for the security of the entire world. The Recent massive attack which targeted
around 300,000 machines in 150 countries proved that the world is not prepared to confront such
threat. This type of asymmetric threat demands a more comprehensive approach since it cannot be
addressed with the conventional assets the U.S. possesses to counter its traditional aggressors.

The U.S. should retain the popular support to its institutions since it is fundamental to expand its
values abroad as well. Equally, it is important to maintain the diverse capabilities to address
numerous challenges with the appropriate budget for its functioning. The role of external points of
view and third party opinions are nourishing for the process of growing not only as organizations
but also as human beings. In this sense, think tanks and academia are good sources of criticism and
adequate feedback for retaking the north when arrogance and overconfidence blur the horizon of
what is correct, especially when occupying positions of power.
On the other hand, it is necessary to strengthen the strategic leadership at the highest level of
governance with experts who understand the structure of the national security enterprise while being
capable of synchronizing the roles of the existing organizations and agencies. It is pivotal that roles
and functions within the NSE are clearly defined to avoid multiplicity of efforts. Besides, the
articulation of the private sector, opinion generators, and outside institutions with the government

The Crusades Essay
In 1095, at the Council of Clermont, Pope Urban II began a striking expedition to Jerusalem in
order to release the city from Muslim control. His moving campaign and the promise of an immense
reward was inspirational to the many willing participants. One must essentially understand that the
leaders of these crusadesconnected almost every accomplishment to the works of God, and felt a
huge moral obligation to take back what once belonged to Him. The extent of the crusades shows
the deep devotion that most of Western Europehad towards Christianity and the desire to rid the
world of unnecessary evils.

The general consensus of the Western European societies classified their enemies as anyone who
differed even slightly from the Catholic beliefs. Their society appears to be a very strict and
conformal atmosphere in which autonomy did not play much of a role. As such, in regards to the
sentencing of the Count of Toulouse the writings on the crusades contain much information that
points to the choice of conversion or condemnation. Eternal damnation was believed to be the
result of a person who did not show repentance or debarred heresy, and shows no devotion to the
cause of reconciliation.
Even though the principal language used throughout the crusades was Latin, the context of it was
used in a multitude of ways. The broad applicability of Latin was used because it was the official
language of the Roman church. The Church was the main source of education and therefore created
a web of writings, textbooks, and biblical translations which allowed much of Europe and Asia
Minor to understand the message of Western Christianity. The direct meaning of the word crusade
was taking the cross though this period was not named as such until later in the sixteenth century.
The soldiers of the Crusades apperceived that the idea of taking one s cross meant to follow Christ,
which allowed for such substantial influence

Sports Betting Lucrative in the United States
Robert Kiyosaki once said, Successful people take big risks knowing they might fall hard but they
might succeed more than they ever dreamed. This man is a billionaire that hit the jackpot, while
gambling. He now owns eleven different businesses and he is worth over eighty million dollars. If
someone could learn how to astute, they could live like him too. The articles, The Legalized
Gambling Debate, Sports Betting Should be Legal, and Should Sports Gambling be Legal?, all
attribute thought to this suggestion. Gambling is a feasible business as it provides revenue,
sponsors education, and inspires gamblers.
Sports gambling is legal in all the countries besides the United States. As Zak Lutz said in the
article, Should Sports Gambling be Legal?, sports gambling, for the most part, is illegal in the
United States with the exception of four states, which include Delaware, Nevada, Oregon, and
Montana. We gamble when we buy state lottery tickets, go to the horse tracks, and spend money at

Immigration Policy Historically Has Been Influenced By Our...
Immigration policy historically has been influenced by our country s fear to uphold traditional
American culture often rooted in a sense of anti immigration and xenophobia. We perpetuate this by
allowing the criminalization of communities of color, mainly with the large Latino population in
the U.S. A large portion of the immigrants who arrive in the country are fleeing dangerous
homelands pitted with economic and political turmoil. Their situation is worsened by our country s
broken immigrationsystem where families are separated, immigrants are exploited as work labor,
discrimination is rampant, and the pathways to citizenship are convoluted at best. We as a country
need to uphold our values of freedom and equality when immigrants come to our country and
reform our immigration system to be more reflective of this. In light of the recent occurrences with
ISIS related terrorism committed by foreigners such as the San Bernardino shooting or the Orlando
night club shooting, there has been some resistance from the country in regards to immigration.
Additionally the age old worry of job security also heightens our sensitivity towards immigrants
with jobs, as they compete for them. Despite this, Clinton s Immigration policy seeks to transform
the U.S. into a version of our former selves with family at the heart of her immigration policies. In
regards to this, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has a long history of promoting immigration

The Ontario College of Physicians and surgeons defined the disruptive behavior as inappropriate
conduct, whether in words or action, that interferes with, or has the potential to interfere with,
quality health care delivery. Disruptive doctors, nurses and most of healthcare employees are found
in almost all hospitals and clinics. Although most observers noticed that only 6% of physicians fall

The factors are either endogenous related to the individual or exogenous related to the work
environment. Certain personalities are associated with disrespectful behavior. Self esteem is
extremely important to doctors as it is very related to doctors` perception of their own reputation
and competence. The reason for this is doctors usually spend a huge amount of time and energy
to achieve a great success and reputation so they become more sensitive to anything that may
endanger their self esteem or success. Doctors might react with aggressive personal behavior, if
anyone directly or indirectly tries to touch their self esteem, as a way to confirm their professional
dominance. They could feel insecurity and anxiety especially if they felt that they are prone to
challenges of practicing medicine. Doctors or any healthcare professionals who do not feel
confident about their skills may reflect this anxiety to the coworkers around him in terms of
blaming others or making hypercritical comments. In fact they might overreact blaming themselves
for real or unreal inadequacy, hypercriticize themselves or others. The huge amount of energy and

Woland is simply an alternate interpretation of the Devil. During his short conversation with
Matthu Levi he asks him what good deeds are they able to do if there is no evil to right. You
spoke the words as though you did not recognize the existence of either shadows or evil. But
would you be kind enough to give some thought to this: what would your good be doing if there

He delivers the message that Yeshua wants the master to be granted peace. Yeshua does not
possess the power to do this task himself and asks that Woland do it. Woland can obviously do it
easily. The Master is given peace, not light in the end because he has acquiesced to the pressure on
him from society. The master s one flaw is that he is a coward, like Pontius Pilate. Because of this
one fact he is given peace, not light. Yeshua did not blame anyone for his death, furthermore he
did not seize the opportunity to be free when he was offered it. Pontius Pilate has eternally
tormented himself for being a coward and not doing anything to save Yeshua. Yeshua s
intentions are rather clear when he gets Woland to bring the Master to free Pilate. Woland s
ultimate business in Moscow was to locate the Master and get the novel from him. Although he
has caused a great deal of trouble for characters such as Varenuhka, Styopa, Ivan, and Rimsky, he
has ultimately served his purpose as the justice bringer to the flawed as well as allowing Yeshua

Theme Of Passage To India
A Passage to India
A Passage to India by E. M. Forster is a Modernist novel which highlights the complex inner life of
its characters using complicated plots and recurring symbols and images. Foster questions the
conformist approaches of representing reality: he reiterates that whatever people call reality is an
indefinable commodity. E. K. Brown, a renowned American critic, points out that the main idea of
A passage to India is the chasm between the world of actions and the world of being (Mitra 5).
Hence, the novel is not simply a piece of anti colonial fiction: it is modern classic too, one that is
as relevant in the present times as it was in the pre colonial times. In this paper, we analyze the
nature of the different realities presented in A Passage to India. Further, we discuss the ways the
treatment of this subject both contributes to the development of the central themes of the novel and

He was a homosexual and his interest in the Asian country was sparked by his romantic
involvement with an Indian by the name of Syed Ross Massood to whom the novel is dedicated
(Bagguley). The novel is partly an attempt to come to terms with the love affair by exploring
Anglo Indian friendship. Massood passed on in 1923, at a time when Forster was writing the
novel. Inevitably, Forster s feelings and thoughts as regards the relationship found their way into
the novel s characterization, imagery, and attitude towards personal relationships. To some
extent, Foster s attitude towards inter racial friendships is as a result of his other affairs,
especially with Mohammed. Throughout the novel, the author explores ways in which we can
break down or even rise above the barriers of race, class, age and gender. This is one of the main
themes in the novel. Forster is essentially a liberal novelist and he is unwavering in exploring

Uranus Experiments
Before being known as a planet Uranus was mistaken for a star. Probably the first time that
Uranus was observed was by Hipparchus of Nicaea. Hipparchus did mistaken Uranus for a star.
Hipparchus may have recorded it as a star for his star catalogue that was later incorporated into
Ptolemy s Almagest (1). William Herschel first observed Uranus on March 13, 1781 from the
garden of his house at 19 New King Street in Bath, Somerset, England. Herschel engaged in a
series of observations on the parallax of the fixed stars. Using a telescope of his own design.
When William first wrote on his journal about the discovery that he made, he said that he had
found a comet. He believed that he had found a comet, but he was also comparing it to a planet. So,
William was wondering if what he found was a comet or if it was a planet. William Herschel wrote
to Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne saying: I don t know what to call it. It is as likely to be a
regular planet moving in an orbit nearly circular to the sun as a Comet moving in a very eccentric
ellipsis. I have not yet seen any coma or tail to it (2).

Rejection In The Grapes Of Wrath
By not being accepted by those who were closest to them, Joseph and Jesus were able to make a
difference in the lives of many more people than if they had not gone through the extra steps
rejection took them.
Rejection does not feel good. Often times, rejection is a lonely place. Rejection caused Joseph to
become a slave and a prisoner. He lived in a pit and he was left in prison for several years on more
than one occasion. While in each of these places, Joseph never forgot his dream. Joseph was
faced with being called a liar and a rapist but he never forgot his dreams. I am certain that Joseph
did not understand what was going on or why his dream was not coming to fruition but he never
gave up. While in prison Joseph still exercised

Racism, Prejudice And Antisemitism
Racism, Prejudice, and antisemitism are very serious concerns that need to be dealt with. As
Rosa Parks said, Racism is still with us. But it is up to us to prepare our children for what they

horrific concerns. Many bad things are still going on in the world. But there are just as many
solutions on how to combat these horrific acts. Throughout the essay, you ll see how serious racism,

Compare And Contrast Frederick Douglass And Booker T...
How many people have heard of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington? Many. How
many people know who they both are and what kind of lives they lived? Less. Frederick
Douglass was born in approximately 1818 in Tuckahoe, Maryland, enslaved. In 1838, he became
free and also became an orator and writer to advocate the liberation and rights of his race. Booker
T. Washington, born in a fourteen by sixteen log cabin, was also, like Frederick Douglass, born
into slavery around 1856. He was declared free in 1865 and went on to also become a writer and
orator to advocate his race. Both Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington are well known
for being African Americans leaders of the 19th century, as well as former slaves, but few people
know how vastly different their lives and beliefs were. Frederick Douglass and Booker T.
Washington s lives were vastly different, including all of their childhood days, their middle
struggles, and their later years.
The early years of Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington s were perhaps the most
dramatic in contrast. Though Frederick Douglass and Booker T. Washington were both born into
slavery, Frederick Douglass saw and experienced more of the bloodiness of slavery. Not only did
he witness multiple excruciating beatings of his own aunt as a very young child, being often

Contemporary Issues In Social Policy
Contemporary Issues in Social Policy
By Nazia Howell
October 2017
Social policy refers to the policies used by government for welfare and social protection (Spicker,
P.) that are usually made by central Government and implemented by local authorities to tackle
current social issues such as poverty and racism. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have now
devolved and have their own laws and legislations on several issues.
This essay will explore three contemporary issues in relation to social policy, whilst supporting
these issues with legislation and economic context for each issue.
The three issues that will be explored are: Welfare, Health and Pensions. Defining social policy, and
understanding social policy becomes imperative, to enable understanding of the contemporary
issues within it.
Social policy was introduced in the early 19th Century, post war. At this time, William Beveridge
introduced the idea of a Welfare Stateto address poverty. He released a report for social reform
known as the five giants within society: squalor, disease, ignorance, idleness and want. The
welfare state brought many positive improvements in Britain and Government passed reforms to
address the poverty levels, introducing cradle to grave support. The National Health Service was
set up which gave free health care to all and laws and Acts were put in place to help the young,
the old, the sick the unemployed and the working class in times of need. The five issues raised by

Meaning Of Confessional Poetry
Confessional Poetry was the term given to the works of a group of American poets including
Robert Lowell, Anne Sexton, John Berryman, Sylvia Plath, W. D. Snodgrass, and less often
Theodore Roethke and Allen Ginsberg who were writing verse in the late nineteen fifties and
sixties. This label, confessional, was so named misnamed by critic M. L. Rosenthal in a 1959
review of Robert Lowell s Life Studies, because of the personal voice and colloquial style the
volume presented which was unlike the formality of Lowell s previous collections. For their subject
matter these poets used parts of life not ordinarily presented in the public domain, such as frank
revelations about marital infidelities, experiences with drug and alcohol addictions, mental
breakdowns, and suicideattempts. Yet Rosenthal s term, confessional, radically simplified the work
that it labeled. Not only did many famous figures such as Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, and John
Berryman committed suicide in this school but also used their poems as a public forum for

The Characters Of Harry Potter
The Harry Potter book series has sold over 450 million copies and is currently translated into
almost every language on the face of the earth ( Harry Potter ). Millions have faithfully followed
the story about this magical world and have fallen in love with the many enchanting characters.
What most readers do not recognize is the prominence that classical Greek/Roman mythological
allusions play in the beloved roles in Harry Potterthrough their names and personality attributes.
The importance of names is extremely significant to a person s identity, especially in literature
where words are meant to bring stories to life. Rowling continues this concept through her
characters by linking her characters names to classical folklore charismas that share similar
personas. Rowling does a fantastic job with cleverly connecting her characters to classical Greek
/Roman mythological figures through the etymology of their names and similar personality traits
to their wizard counterparts, such as Professor McGonagall and Filch. An apparent allusion to a
classical mythological figure is the Hogwarts transfiguration professor Minerva McGonagall.
Professor McGonagall is an extremely intelligent woman, which is seen because she is tenured
teacher who is respected by both her students and fellow professors. She is also known as an
excellent strategist in wizard duels, which can be seen clearly in Rowling s last installment when
McGonagall duels and defeats Snape when he is in search of Harry

Australian Constitutional Monarchy
Introduction
The only system of governance which has been used in Australia since federation in 1901 has been
a Constitutional Monarchy. Within this system there is a constitution, which determines and limits
the role of government in Australian society; there is a monarch, who inherits the role of Head of
State from his or her parent; and there is a parliament where elected members sit to create and vote
on legislation. However, in the 1980s and 1990s a new political movement gained a large amount
of popularity in Australia. This movement endorsed changing Australia s system of government to a
semi presidential republic. This systems most commonly recognised difference is the removal of
the monarch as the Head of State and a president as the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The constitutional monarchy has served Australia well for over 110 years, and we should not
change it, due to potential risks associated with doing so, such as politicising the role of the Head
of State of Australia.
The constitutional monarchy means Australia a non political Head of State, this would change if
a republic model was adopted. Queen Elizabeth, as well as other past monarchs, have not had a
political role in the governance of the country. The introduction of an elected Head of State would
mean that Australia would have to have a Head of State who plays a political role, which is
considered by many to be negative, because traditionally only members of parliament have played
political roles in Australia s governance.
Australia has close ties to its monarch which should not be removed. Australia and the United
Kingdom have a strong international relationship, which is partially due to the strength caused by
sharing a Head of State. If Australia removes the Queen as its Head of State, this will likely
weaken its relationship with the United Kingdom, who is considered to be one of our closest

Reflection Of Human Development
Human development can be studied by researching both physical and mental development. It can be
studied by focusing on the external human body, along with the processes and intricate systems that
have been developed by our body. It can also focus on the human brain, specifically on the internal
development of human behaviour and interaction. Consequently, I have built my degree plan to
represent both viewpoints in development.
Physiology, the study of life and how cells and tissues in the body work together, works to answer
how cells interact with each other and how this establishes the interactions between human
populations. The following courses also focus on this thought. Biol 361: Physiology of Sensory,
Nervous and Muscular Systems will introduce the various systems in the human body, including
neurons and transmition (nervous system), muscle contraction (skeletal muscle), and sensory
information. This will provide a solid understanding of the various interactions in our body that
allow us to function. I am interested in expanding on my introductory Cell Biology courses, to focus
specifically on humans. Following this, BIOL 325: Introduction to Animal Mechanics and
Locomotion will continue to develop my understanding on animal physiology and this course will
focus more on Cardiovascular, respiratory, and osmoregulatory physiology. As such, this is
providing a complete look into the human body, combined with other courses. Then. BIOL 325:
Introduction to Animal Mechanics and Locomotion will look at one portion of the human body and
how humans use it interact with our environment. Specifically, it focuses on the skeletal system and
how humans use it in mechanisms of motion. Finally, BIOL 454: Comparative Animal Physiology
and BIOL 457: Comparative Environmental Physiology will work together to deepen my
understanding of the physiological adaptations that animals make in various environments. When
looking at humans, these are the perfect courses to pair with the development of the brain, as it
provides a full understanding of human thought and how we use our body to accomplish our
thoughts. Through these courses, I hope to gain a better understanding of how humans function in
different situations.

Analysis Of Stephen A. Brighton s Article
Purpose: Stephen A. Brighton s article is primarily a portrayal of the steps that today s
archeologists are working to implement. According to the article, it is explained how
archeology have changed horizons compared to previous years. The case discussed in this
article focuses on the fact that in order for archeology to have greater impact in communities and
in general, it should deviate a bit from its merely scholar course to a more socially oriented
pathway, ruled by community collaboration and committed service to the underserved members
of the community. It states that former ways of archeology were not particularly focused on
social that is why occasionally the most oppressed members of the society were excluded and
deprived of their rights. This flaw is now being improved. Therefore, this article is aimed to
expose the way modern archeology works to empower the people to stand for their heritage and
fight for social justice in spite of political policies without neglecting the ethical guidelines of the
profession. Population of Study: Brighton s article explores the field of study of public

The Effect Invasive Species Have on the Environment
The book entitled, Ecology of Weeds and Invasive Plants , opens with a quote from Dr. A. S.
Crafts saying, in the beginning there were no weeds. . This quote causes one to stop and think
about it. What Dr. Crafts meant by this quote was that even though plants have existed for many
years, weeds did not exist before humans began to travel about. With all the traveling that humans
do the problem of invasive plants has grown tremendously (Radosevich, 1). The impact that
invasive species have on the environment is often overlooked or thought of as unimportant. The
issue is vast, yet little is done about it. The problem with invasive species is extremely important
and will impact the world for generations to come. This paper will explain what invasive species
are, show the negative impacts invasive species have on the environment, and what we can do
about this issue. As humans began to travel and change the landscape of the lands, the pace of
invasions has increased dramatically. The word invasive species has a lot of negative
connotations. However, invasive plants are actually like native plants, not bad when they are in
their native habitat, but it is just when they are in a favorable non native environment that causes
them to become invasive. One and half million of the estimated species ten million species are

but also is unattractive and can look and be grotesque. In the essay, Frankenstein and Mary
Shelley s wet ungenial summer , Phillips states, Some of her descriptions were later
incorporated into her novel. In another letter to her sister Fanny, on June 1st 1816, Mary wrote:
The thunder storms that visit us are grander and more terrific than I have ever seen before. We
watch them as they approach from the opposite side of the lake, observing the lightning play
among the clouds in various parts of the heavens, and dart in jagged figures upon the heights of
Jura, dark with the shadow of the overhanging could, while perhaps the sun is shining cheerily

was seen by victor. She uses this storm to describe how Victor sees the creature. Victor thinks the
creature is violent at times and beautiful at others. In addition, the creature causes destruction like

are in terms of their willingness to pay certain prices. The following determines the bargaining
power of buyers Buyers concentration Switching costs Backward vertical integration Ratio of
purchase price to total cost Information The bargaining power of buyers stands in a direct
relationship with the bargaining power of suppliers. If the bargaining power of buyers is
substantial it increases the opportunity cost of suppliers. The greater the buyers concentration the
greater their bargaining power. This bargaining power is also increased in markets where the
suppliers concentration is high. The bargaining power is also increased when the cost of

Specifically, the framers wrapped their heads around the notion that every man is created equal and
should have the same chances to excel as everyone else (Williamsburg Foundation, 2005). The
constitutional creators also believed in limited government, as large government hindered the rights
of the people and thus stifled innovation. The roots of the constitution come from a largely
pragmatic and realist base who wished to ensure that people in the future could modify the
constitution as necessary. However, they would have to go through quite a bit of red tape to do it.
This would ensure nobody s rights were trampled and that everyone agreed on the change. It was a
brilliant idea. Very few documents have ever lasted through the test of time such as the United

Comparing Immorality in The Rise of Silas Lapham and The...
Motivation of Immorality in The Rise of Silas Lapham and The Octopus
In both William Dean Howells The Rise of Silas Lapham and The Octopus by Frank Norris, a
character is faced with the moral issues involved with operating his business. Howells character,
Silas Lapham (The Colonel) and Norris Magnus Derrick are both desirous to have a prominent
position in their respective societies, but are in the precarious situation of having to deploy immoral
methods to achieve this coveted stature during the course of harder times. Each man has aspirations
to be powerful, prestigious, famous, and/or wealthy. In combination with their lack of humility for
their lofty position in society and their over ambitious definition of success, ... Show more content

He desires acceptance as an equal to the socially distinguished Boston family, the Coreys. It is only
through the money made from his mineral paint business that lends him the chance to associate
with such families.
Silas rise from poverty was not fully morally sound though, notwithstanding the fact that the
product he made his money with was one that was virtually handed to him and that sold itself. In
spite of these facts, at an earlier stage in the business, Silas had taken up a partner, Mr. Rogers, to
help him financially, and then forced him out before he could make any profit. This move appears
to be the first immoral business choice in the career of Silas Lapham. It forces him to be dishonest
not only to himself, but to his wife, by driving him to lie about and cover up his inner feelings
about what he had done. Although he states that he has a clear conscience concerning the whole
affair, he cannot so much as speak directly to the man during a chance meeting on the street. He
shies away from the awkward situation entirely, leaving his wife to contend with the betrayed
former partner.
Silas attempts to reconcile his deceiving Rogers by calling it a business chance, but his wife refutes
by stating,
It was no chance at all. You crowded him out. A man that saved you! No, you had got greedy,
Silas. You had made your paint your god, and you couldn t bear to let anybody

1.0 Introduction
Accounting Standard AASB 112 (Income Taxes) prescribe the accounting treatment for income
taxes. As stated by Leo, Hoggett, amp; Sweeting (2012), transactions undertaken by an entity and
other events affecting the entity have two separate effects, which are current and future tax
consequences. This is because accrual principal is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Development cost is capitalised over future period in determining accounting profit but deducted
in the period they are incurred when calculating taxable income (IAS 12, 2012). This will cause
Gravatt Ltd to pay more taxes in the future. Moreover, the company actually had a deferred tax
liability of $80million. This is considered material when comparing to equity of $570million. Thus,
it should be disclosed in annual report as required by AASB 1031.
2.2.3 Tax losses Directors believed that neither current tax liability nor a deferred tax liability
was necessary as the company was making tax losses because of huge allowable deductions
available for exploration and development costs. According to Leo, Hoggett, amp; Sweeting
(2012), tax loss provides future deduction for the company, hence deductible temporary
difference exists and deferred tax asset arises. In facts, Gravatt Ltd had an income tax expense of
$24.3million instead of tax losses if it followed the accounting standard. This might be due to its
taxable income was still more than tax deduction after considering the development costs.
Therefore, argument of directors is invalid as according to AASB 112, tax loss arises when a
company s tax deductions exceeds its taxable income.
2.3 Information utility to users of financial report of deferred tax liabilities AASB 112 provides
disclosure requirement in relation to tax in general purpose of financial statement prepared for

The Effects Of Rap Music On Social Behavior Essay
In society today, it is highly noticed that the role of rap music messages and video images of
violence causes an increase in negative emotions, thoughts and behaviors which could lead to
violence amongst youth. Rap music has been at the center of concern in regards to the potential
harmful effect of violent media on social behavior amongst youth. This potential behavior could be
seen in the music video titled Kim by Eminem. In this music video, the storyline, language and
sound encourages hostile thoughts and feelings amongst its audience. In the music video, Kim
husband catches her cheating on him in their home with another man, while he is away. However,
when Marshall gets home and finds out that his wife is cheating on him, he gets upset, angry, and
abusive and becomes violent towards his wife Kim. He screams at her saying that, if she moves
again, he will beat the shit out of her (Line 11). Violencein rap music has increased in response to
the complex interplay of changing social conditions such as the elevated levels of youth violence in
the changing commercial practices within the music industry. Hence, the media influences violence
in four negative ways, which contributes immensely to anger amongst youth which leads to
aggressive behavior such as social violence, substance abuse, domestic violence, and negative
perceptions of women.
In the song, Eminem s anger and emotions is used as a premise in the music lyrics, which

Compare And Contrast Marriage And Marriage
Do you know a couple that has been dating for years, but has never really taken the next step to
becoming married? Many couples have settled with just dating in today s world. This may be
because they haven t become ready for that next stage in life. Maybe they know how different
dating is from being married, how big of a change it ll be for them. A lot of adults who have kids
are not even married, this stems from generations of non marital relationships. As a result, their
kids see no reason for marriageor they may think that marriage is a bad thing because they have
been scarred seeing that their parents have divorced. Both dating and being married have their
positives as well as negatives.
Commitment to a marriage and in just dating is totally different. In a marriage, the commitment
between the two people is supposed to be a lifelong commitment, till death do you part . It is also
a very sacred form of commitment in that it shows your relationship with God as well as your family
. If you were to commit adultery, which means to cheat or lie on your partner, within your
marriage it could cause not only legal problems but, far more serious problems as well. On the
contrary, dating is just the beginning stages. Although it is best to stay committed, it is not as big
as a marriage. In a regular relationship, a person can cheat and not be held accountable for their
actions because it is not as serious as a marriage. Partners are still technically allowed to do as

England company s even toured and performed English plays abroad; in Germany and in Denmark.
Costumes were often bright in colour and visually entrancing. Costumes were expensive, however
so usually players wore contemporary clothing regardless of the time period of the play. Otherwise
,costumes would be recycled and used in multiple different plays multiple times until it was too
worn to be used.
The growing population of London , the growing wealth of its people, and their fondness for
spectacle produced a dramatic literature of remarkable variety, quality , and extent. Although most
of the plays written for the Elizabethan stage have been lost ,over 600 remain.

sing about walls. Grendel, Grendel! You make the world by whispers, second by second. Are
you blind to that? Whether you make it a grave or a garden of roses is not the point. Feel the
wall; is it not hard (Gardner 12)? Beowulf proves to grendel that grendel is not all that is out
there in the world. Grendel does not understand that the world has become fearful because of
him. Grendel still follows his own way of life and as a result has his arm torn off by Beowulf.
Grendel runs off his arm leaking blood and slowly dieing. After a while Grendel begins to say
that he did not feel any pain in his arm anymore every step he takes he repeats accident to himself.

French Revolution Turning Point Essay
This was a turning point in the revolution, when the government lost most of its control over the
population. Rights of Man and Citizen was also adopted to forestall the violence, as work on a
Constitution slowly began. August 27, 1789, the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen was
adopted by the National Constituent Assembly (History.com). These Enlightenment ideas such as
freedom of speech were radical at that time. The declaration professed its commitment to discard the
archaic ancien regime with a new order. This new government would be established on freedom of
speech, equal opportunity, representative government and popular sovereignty (History.com).
However, this was not completely followed through on. Drafting the constitution... Show more

War was declared on Austria and Prussia in 1972 by the new legislative Assembly (History.com).
They believed that French emigres were arranging regressive counter revolutionary alliances. By
declaring war they also hoped to spread their ideals across Europe, forcibly (History.com). This
was a glimpse of the insanity that the new government was going to bring to France. In the heart of
France the revolt had gripped the nation, as the political disaster took an extreme turn. This
occurred when a rising group of insurgents, led by a radical group called the Jacobins, attacked the
royal residence at the Tuileries Palace (History.com). They seized the king and his family on August
10,1792 during this raid. During the following month, Parisians revolutionaries murdered hundreds
of accused counter revolutionaries, during a surge of violence. At this stage the old government had
lost all power of command and they were simply trying to save themselves from the mess they had
made. The legislative Assembly was replaced by a new institution that commanded the abolition of
the monarchy and the formation of the French Republic. This organization was named the National

  • 3. Growing Number of Electric Power Grids The existing electric power grids face new challenges with the growing economies that are dependent on electricity. These challenges put the ability of the current electric power grids at risks of being able to deliver efficient, reliable and clean power energy to meet the demand of the growing economies. The reliability of the existing electric power girds during peak load conditions is ensured mainly by having excessive power capacity in the whole system [1]. Excessive power capacity necessitates turning on peaker plants which are environmentally unfriendly and also expensive. Conversely, when the average demand is much lower than the peak load, then the need for energy storage becomes a necessity. A key solution to the energy storage and wastage problems is offered by renewable energy sources; however, their integration with the existing grids comes with a set of barriers such as the intermittency of generation and the high level of distribution of the sources and the lack of proven distribution control algorithms to manage such a highly distributed generation base [2]. In such situation, the use of communication and information technologies is attractive to match the demand to the available supply and dramatically improve performance and efficiency. A smart grid is an intelligent electricity network that integrates the actions of all users connected to it and makes use of advanced information, control, and communications technologies to save energy, reduce cost and ... • 4. Government s Intervention On Healthcare System Tsebelis (1995) offered veto player framework to understand why public policy changes in particular political system. This framework offers more detail explanation on the public policy changes than other institutional theory, because veto player framework focuses on the actor instead of the institutions. This paper reviews three articles on welfare state s policychange. Using the veto player framework, the three articles give the similar conclusion that in order to change the public policy, we should understand the number and position of veto points (Immergut, 1990) whether it is on the executive, legislative or electoral, so we can construct the best strategies to propose the change, the institutional design (Immergut, 1990; Huber, Rubin and Stephen, 1993) and the common belief system among the players (Kremer, 2006). Immergut s (1990) article tries to investigate how the professional group can influence the health care s policy change in Switzerland, France and Sweden. Immergut chooses the three case studies because the three countries have different governments intervention on healthcare system. The Swiss healthcare system is the most independence among the three. On the other hand, the government regulates the French healthcare system in terms of arrangements in doctor s fee. And the Swedish government is the most centralized among them, because most of the doctors work for the government s hospitals. Using the institutional and veto points framework, ... • 7. Penetration Testing Or Pen Testing Essay Penetration testing Introduction: Penetration testing or Pen testing is to find the vulnerabilities that an attacker could exploit a network, web application or a computer. It is generally an attack on a computer looking for security weaknesses, potentially gaining access to the computer s features and data. The main purpose of penetration testing is to determine the security weaknesses in a system. Pen testing can also be used to test an organization s security policy agreement, its employees security awareness and the organization s ability to identify and respond to security incidents. Pen tests are sometimes called as white hat attacks as the good guys are attempting to break in. Pen testing can be done by automated software applications or can be tested manually. In both ways, the process is same. Following are the strategies included in penetration testing: Targeted testing Performed by company s IT team and pen testing team working together. Referred as lights turned on approach as everyone can see the test being carried out. External testing This testing will target on external devices or server including E mail servers, domain name servers, web servers or firewalls. The objective is to find out how far outside attacker can get in when they ve gained the access. Internal testing This test will simulate an inside attack behind the firewall done by an authorized user who is having standard access ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Indirect Characterization In Simon Elkeles Rules Of... We get to know people in many different ways. Whether it s through their words, deeds appearance, or reputation, we are acquainted to others through indirect characterization. In Rules of Attraction, by Simon Elkeles, the author uses indirect characterization to reveal the main character s personality. The protagonist, Carlos Fuentes, is shown to be cultural, arrogant, and obnoxious, but has a hidden kind side. The reader is shown that Carlos stays true to his Mexican culture through various types of indirect characterization. At the beginning of the story, Carlos introduces himself to others by saying, Me llamo Carlos. (Elkeles p.25). Here, the author begins to use indirect characterization to expose Carlos s personality by using Carlos s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These particular traits are shown through one main method of indirect characterization, the thoughts and words of others. Elkeles shows one of Carlos s negative traits by giving the reader a peek into a secondary character s mind, He [Carlos] is so obnoxious. (p.33). Here it is made obvious that, in addition to other traits, Carlos is blatantly obnoxious and rude through indirect characterization. However, later in the story, the same character says to Carlos, You pretty much succeed in being a jerk most of time, but you ve got potential. (Elkeles p.144). Again, the author used indirect characterization, specifically the words of other characters, to show Carlos s personality. Rather than exposing the unpleasant nature of Carlos s character, this time Elkeles displays the likability of it.. This likability is further enforced in a secondary character s thoughts near the end of the book, When he [Carlos] played soccer with my brother, and I saw a glimpse of generosity that he only gifts to the few he thinks are worthy, I knew that what you see isn t necessarily what you get when it comes to Carlos. (Elkeles p.225). Elkeles, by using indirect characterization once more, makes the sweet kind hearted side of Carlos apparent to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Media and Its Effects on Society S. Jade Flewelling Ms. Melissa Hicks English 225, Section 23 Final Paper Draft 1 The media is an obvious factor in the increase of violence, risky behavior, and obesity in kids in our society. Television programs and movies are becoming more and more violent, and more abundant to fulfill the demand for an overly desensitized audience. For any type of television show or movie to be considered good and entertaining it must excel in at least 3 categories: blood and guts, curse words, and the most important element of all how believable are the scenarios. The good guy must prevail, even if it means murdering 25 men in order to rescue the super hot defenseless heiress. It s sad really, for some it is engaging and entertaining as long as the ... A survey of 2,000 3rd graders showed that as the number of hours of television viewing increased, so did the rates of anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress (Rao,79). Some babysitter huh? Television programs create false perceptions of the real world. Often times children will become fearful of the real world and expect that something bad will happen to them (How TV Affects Your Child, Par. 10). Many parents think that they can explain away the frightening scenes that children watch, but unfortunately frightening TV scenes have an immediate impact on kids: 62% of parents report that their children have at some point been scared that something they saw in a TV program or movie might happen to them (Rao, 80). Another very sad problem that too much television is creating is that in most cases children watch television alone. Teenagers with very few friends often create substitute friendships, also know as parasocial friendships (71). Television does not educate children on how to integrate and contribute to society in healthy ways. Often times children are bombarded with messages like, its cool to smoke, its cool to drink, have sex with whoever you want as long as their hot, and its okay to beat someone up as long as you re the good guy. • 10. The Vanishing Woman Justice and the legal system were difficult and malleable forces during Defoe s lifetime, continually shifting and updating. At the time of the Restoration in 1600 there were 50 capital statutes, which rapidly rose to over 200 by the early 19th century. These shifts of identity in the judicial system are also apparent in the anxieties of the Augustan period in relation to criminals and, in particular, female criminals. The presence of female criminals in contemporary society has been studied by Malcolm Feeley and Deborah Little in their publication The Vanishing Woman (date) which suggests there was a marked decrease of female criminals between 1660 and 1800; in contrast, Peter King suggests that there is no explicit decrease and that Feeley... Similarly, Defoe chooses to have the name Roxana bestowed upon his protagonist by another person in the central scene of the Turkish dance in Roxana. In Defoe s contemporary society, Roxana (like Moll) was a fairly common name that emphasises the vague foundations of their identities; but whereas Moll prompts associations of sexual promiscuity and falsities, Roxana is said to evoke the image of harems and exotic, beautiful women. Not only are the conductors of the kill spree are scary, but even the victims can be just as terrifying. Two examples of genocide are the Holocaust and the Rwanda Genocide, both of which gives off long ranges of psychological effects on the mind of those who survive. Survivors struggle through the tragic events with the hope they would soon find and be with their loved ones. So how does a survivor survive the experience of genocide? Although survival is key during the event of a mass genocide, the experience victims go through can wreak havoc upon the mindset, go into depression or even sometimes to help them strive to a better future. The experience of a mass genocide can change a person, for the better or for the worse, many go under much stress, go through symptoms such as PTSD and become scarred mentally and/or physically. • 13. Holy Sonnet 14 Analysis Holy Sonnet 14 presents the struggle between following one s faith and the alluring baseness of the human experience. This work fixates on the ties the speaker has to Satan, and the inability to break those ties without God s intervention. A vein of nearly mad desperation courses through the poem from submissive start to subjugated end, culminating in a pained, almost violent plea for Godto ravish him. One can see how the speaker s desolation builds; he longs for God to break him down and repair him, raise him up and make [him] new in the first quatrain, but by the finalcouplet he embraces imprisonment, razing and ravishing. He believes himself unworthy of deliverance in such a far fallen state, requiring trial and punishment before he can again live in the lord s light. An initial hopefulness tempers the anguish of the opening quatrain, and the speaker obviously feels as if God can still mend his corrupted heart. His restoration to a more holy image requires submission to the agony of liberation from sin. An erratic syntax littered with trochees, spondees, and anapests indicates a mercurial, near frenzied quality to his plea. Donne does not employ a single straight iambic line in the entire poem; BAT ter , a trochee, punctuates the opening line, blunt and rough. This imperative moodof the first verb establishes the urgency of the first quatrain, and the subtle continuance of imperative verbs displays the prevailing tone of pleading, anxious desire for salvation. ... His moving campaign and the promise of an immense reward was inspirational to the many willing participants. One must essentially understand that the leaders of these crusadesconnected almost every accomplishment to the works of God, and felt a huge moral obligation to take back what once belonged to Him. Eternal damnation was believed to be the result of a person who did not show repentance or debarred heresy, and shows no devotion to the cause of reconciliation. Even though the principal language used throughout the crusades was Latin, the context of it was used in a multitude of ways. The broad applicability of Latin was used because it was the official language of the Roman church. The Church was the main source of education and therefore created a web of writings, textbooks, and biblical translations which allowed much of Europe and Asia Minor to understand the message of Western Christianity. Immigration policy historically has been influenced by our country s fear to uphold traditional American culture often rooted in a sense of anti immigration and xenophobia. We perpetuate this by allowing the criminalization of communities of color, mainly with the large Latino population in the U.S. A large portion of the immigrants who arrive in the country are fleeing dangerous homelands pitted with economic and political turmoil. Their situation is worsened by our country s broken immigrationsystem where families are separated, immigrants are exploited as work labor, discrimination is rampant, and the pathways to citizenship are convoluted at best. We as a country need to uphold our values of freedom and equality when immigrants come to our country and reform our immigration system to be more reflective of this. In light of the recent occurrences with ISIS related terrorism committed by foreigners such as the San Bernardino shooting or the Orlando night club shooting, there has been some resistance from the country in regards to immigration. Additionally the age old worry of job security also heightens our sensitivity towards immigrants with jobs, as they compete for them. He explains to Matthu Levi, a mere mortal, that he is misunderstood by fools. Woland is simply an alternate interpretation of the Devil. During his short conversation with Matthu Levi he asks him what good deeds are they able to do if there is no evil to right. You spoke the words as though you did not recognize the existence of either shadows or evil. But would you be kind enough to give some thought to this: what would your good be doing if there were no evil, and what would the earth look like if shadows disappeared from it? He delivers the message that Yeshua wants the master to be granted peace. Yeshua does not possess the power to do this task himself and asks that Woland do it. Woland can obviously do it easily. The Master is given peace, not light in the end because he has acquiesced to the pressure on him from society. The master s one flaw is that he is a coward, like Pontius Pilate. Because of this one fact he is given peace, not light. Yeshua did not blame anyone for his death, furthermore he did not seize the opportunity to be free when he was offered it. Pontius Pilate has eternally tormented himself for being a coward and not doing anything to save Yeshua. Yeshua s intentions are rather clear when he gets Woland to bring the Master to free Pilate. Woland s ultimate business in Moscow was to locate the Master and get the novel from him. Although he has caused a great deal of trouble for characters such as Varenuhka, Styopa, Ivan, and Rimsky, he has ultimately served his purpose as the justice bringer to the flawed as well as allowing Yeshua to right his wrongs. During the aftermath of Satan s Ball, he allows the various characters to return to their original roles. However, it is not without consequence. For example he only lets Varenuhka return if he promises never to be rude over the phone again. Woland has punished evil doers. • 22. Theme Of Passage To India A Passage to India A Passage to India by E. M. Forster is a Modernist novel which highlights the complex inner life of its characters using complicated plots and recurring symbols and images. Foster questions the conformist approaches of representing reality: he reiterates that whatever people call reality is an indefinable commodity. E. K. Brown, a renowned American critic, points out that the main idea of A passage to India is the chasm between the world of actions and the world of being (Mitra 5). Hence, the novel is not simply a piece of anti colonial fiction: it is modern classic too, one that is as relevant in the present times as it was in the pre colonial times. Hipparchus did mistaken Uranus for a star. Hipparchus may have recorded it as a star for his star catalogue that was later incorporated into Ptolemy s Almagest (1). William Herschel first observed Uranus on March 13, 1781 from the garden of his house at 19 New King Street in Bath, Somerset, England. Herschel engaged in a series of observations on the parallax of the fixed stars. Using a telescope of his own design. When William first wrote on his journal about the discovery that he made, he said that he had found a comet. He believed that he had found a comet, but he was also comparing it to a planet. So, William was wondering if what he found was a comet or if it was a planet. William Herschel wrote to Astronomer Royal, Nevil Maskelyne saying: I don t know what to call it. It is as likely to be a regular planet moving in an orbit nearly circular to the sun as a Comet moving in a very eccentric ellipsis. I have not yet seen any coma or tail to it (2). • 28. Contemporary Issues In Social Policy Contemporary Issues in Social Policy By Nazia Howell October 2017 Social policy refers to the policies used by government for welfare and social protection (Spicker, P.) that are usually made by central Government and implemented by local authorities to tackle current social issues such as poverty and racism. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have now devolved and have their own laws and legislations on several issues. This essay will explore three contemporary issues in relation to social policy, whilst supporting these issues with legislation and economic context for each issue. The three issues that will be explored are: Welfare, Health and Pensions. Defining social policy, and understanding social policy becomes imperative, to enable understanding of the contemporary issues within it. Social policy was introduced in the early 19th Century, post war. At this time, William Beveridge introduced the idea of a Welfare Stateto address poverty. He released a report for social reform known as the five giants within society: squalor, disease, ignorance, idleness and want. The welfare state brought many positive improvements in Britain and Government passed reforms to address the poverty levels, introducing cradle to grave support. The National Health Service was set up which gave free health care to all and laws and Acts were put in place to help the young, the old, the sick the unemployed and the working class in times of need. Snodgrass, and less often Theodore Roethke and Allen Ginsberg who were writing verse in the late nineteen fifties and sixties. This label, confessional, was so named misnamed by critic M. L. Rosenthal in a 1959 review of Robert Lowell s Life Studies, because of the personal voice and colloquial style the volume presented which was unlike the formality of Lowell s previous collections. For their subject matter these poets used parts of life not ordinarily presented in the public domain, such as frank revelations about marital infidelities, experiences with drug and alcohol addictions, mental breakdowns, and suicideattempts. Millions have faithfully followed the story about this magical world and have fallen in love with the many enchanting characters. What most readers do not recognize is the prominence that classical Greek/Roman mythological allusions play in the beloved roles in Harry Potterthrough their names and personality attributes. The importance of names is extremely significant to a person s identity, especially in literature where words are meant to bring stories to life. Rowling continues this concept through her characters by linking her characters names to classical folklore charismas that share similar personas. Rowling does a fantastic job with cleverly connecting her characters to classical Greek /Roman mythological figures through the etymology of their names and similar personality traits to their wizard counterparts, such as Professor McGonagall and Filch. An apparent allusion to a classical mythological figure is the Hogwarts transfiguration professor Minerva McGonagall. Professor McGonagall is an extremely intelligent woman, which is seen because she is tenured teacher who is respected by both her students and fellow professors. However, in the 1980s and 1990s a new political movement gained a large amount of popularity in Australia. It can be studied by focusing on the external human body, along with the processes and intricate systems that have been developed by our body. It can also focus on the human brain, specifically on the internal development of human behaviour and interaction. Consequently, I have built my degree plan to represent both viewpoints in development. Physiology, the study of life and how cells and tissues in the body work together, works to answer how cells interact with each other and how this establishes the interactions between human populations. The following courses also focus on this thought. Biol 361: Physiology of Sensory, Nervous and Muscular Systems will introduce the various systems in the human body, including neurons and transmition (nervous system), muscle contraction (skeletal muscle), and sensory information. This will provide a solid understanding of the various interactions in our body that allow us to function. I am interested in expanding on my introductory Cell Biology courses, to focus specifically on humans. Following this, BIOL 325: Introduction to Animal Mechanics and Locomotion will continue to develop my understanding on animal physiology and this course will focus more on Cardiovascular, respiratory, and osmoregulatory physiology. As such, this is providing a complete look into the human body, combined with other courses. Then. BIOL 325: Introduction to Animal Mechanics and Locomotion will look at one portion of the human body and how humans use it interact with our environment. In spite of these facts, at an earlier stage in the business, Silas had taken up a partner, Mr. Rogers, to help him financially, and then forced him out before he could make any profit. This move appears to be the first immoral business choice in the career of Silas Lapham. It forces him to be dishonest not only to himself, but to his wife, by driving him to lie about and cover up his inner feelings about what he had done. Although he states that he has a clear conscience concerning the whole affair, he cannot so much as speak directly to the man during a chance meeting on the street. He shies away from the awkward situation entirely, leaving his wife to contend with the betrayed former partner. Silas attempts to reconcile his deceiving Rogers by calling it a business chance, but his wife refutes by stating, It was no chance at all. You crowded him out. A man that saved you! Development cost is capitalised over future period in determining accounting profit but deducted in the period they are incurred when calculating taxable income (IAS 12, 2012). This will cause Gravatt Ltd to pay more taxes in the future. Moreover, the company actually had a deferred tax liability of $80million. This is considered material when comparing to equity of $570million. Thus, it should be disclosed in annual report as required by AASB 1031. 2.2.3 Tax losses Directors believed that neither current tax liability nor a deferred tax liability was necessary as the company was making tax losses because of huge allowable deductions available for exploration and development costs. According to Leo, Hoggett, amp; Sweeting (2012), tax loss provides future deduction for the company, hence deductible temporary difference exists and deferred tax asset arises. In facts, Gravatt Ltd had an income tax expense of $24.3million instead of tax losses if it followed the accounting standard. This might be due to its taxable income was still more than tax deduction after considering the development costs. Therefore, argument of directors is invalid as according to AASB 112, tax loss arises when a company s tax deductions exceeds its taxable income. 2.3 Information utility to users of financial report of deferred tax liabilities AASB 112 provides disclosure requirement in relation to tax in general purpose of financial statement prepared for ...
