A View From The Bridge Essay examples
A View From The Bridge
Whatever happened we all done it and don t you ever forget it.
The play A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller is set in New York in the 1950s. During this period
of time there were many illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe moving in to America. This was due
to the depression caused by the Second World War. The depression caused a lack of work, many
people started to migrate to America where there were many jobs. Due to the mass immigration
America started to restrict the number of people gaining citizenship and made it illegal to house
immigrants.
The story is set around Eddie Carbone, an Italian immigrant who has citizenship in America. His
character is introduced to the reader as a

She was the mother figure. One of her main mistakes was that she could have got Catherine to mature
faster. She also let Catherine do the jobs she was meant to. She was very gullible and she did not sense
the change in Eddie s character until it was too late. She could have sense the change in him when he

Rodolfo, trying to separate them.
Catherine also played a large part in Eddie s downfall. Even though
Eddie was another figure in her life she should have realised that he was actually her uncle. She acted

Essay about Italian and Northern European Renaissance
Italian and Northern European Renaissance
The Italian and Northern Europe Renaissances were both an important mark in history by changing
the ideals of life, thought, culture, and art of the people s of this time. In this paper I will explain the
motive for change in these cultures, including the similarities and differences of the two cultures. The
Italian and Northern European Renaissance was the marking point for leaving behind the old ways and
moving into the more classical ideals and civilizations for Italy and Northern Europe. However,
Northern Europe developed their ideals more slowly then Italy did. For one thing, the north held on to
Gothic (or Middle Ages ) art and architecture with a tighter, longer grip ... Show more content on

The classical aspects were used to humanize the Christian and secular buildings. The High
Renaissance in Italy, although short lived, was extremely important on the influences of future Italian
art. During the High Renaissance the main focus on Florence, for the arts, shifted to Rome due to the
power and wealth from the popes. Because of the move from Florence to Rome, the two most
important factors of this time, Classicism and Christianity, were merged into one. Italian ideas were
also brought northward through trade and commerce into Europe, where they had a tremendous
amount of influence on the artistic traditions there as well (Benton amp; DiYanni, 2008). Both the
Italian and Northern European Renaissance had interest in changing their ideals in individualism,
humanism, and classicism, which has a large impact on their cultures, and arts. Many of the literary
works of this time expressed the same interests between Italy and Northern Europe. Examples can be
seen in the writings of Petrarch (Italian) and Michel de Montaigne (Northern European). Both of these
writers expressed the importance and idealism of humanism. The literature during this time was a
wonderful looking glass into the similarities and differences of Italy and Northern Europe. After
looking at the Italian and Northern Europe Renaissances, one can see the many similarities between
the arts and cultures, but the differences of these cultures are not

What Is The Theme Of It s An Aardvark Eat Turtle World
Introduction
This book is named It s an Aardvark Eat Turtle World written by Paula Danziger. It was published in
2007. The book are about two friends who were going to be sisters. As you can tell, their parents were
divorced. In addition bought of theirs parents had found someone new. The first person s (named
Rose) mother and the order s (named Phoebe) father fell in love and they try to make a happy family

The characters and the main body
The book is witted in first person and the main character named Rose. She has a friend named Phoebe.
Phoebe father is named Jim and Rose mother named Mindy. It is many craters in this book, but his
was the most important persons of them all. Like I said in the beginning. Rose and Phoebe parent had
found some new partners. Fore a child it is hard to except that theirs parents want to split up. Rose
were more of the person who went forward. She really wanted a real family living under the same
roof. Phoebe were more of the person who held on to here angry feelings. If something were wrong,
nothing would stand in the way for her to express her feelings. Mindy usually let peoples around her

dog world . The expression is from Rose s father. He always based his life around tis saying. Dog

Analyzing Perry s Simple Word Choices
The author of this book seems to give a mostly simple word choice for most of the characters of this
book, and sets a more light hearted tone for the story, especially in the first half of the book. One of
the characters who word choice reflects their character and gives insight to their traits is the main
character, Perry. Quotes such as the following help to establish Perry s character, and gives us an idea
of how he usually thinks. It is called a compressor and makes a rumble rumble noise. It blows up inner
tubes and fenders. Those are squishy things on boats that need to be blown up. I am very good at
blowing up fenders with the compressor (Wood, 6%). This word choice shows Perry simple and
limited vocabulary, as he is one point off of being considered to have an ... Show more content on

Another passage that helps to reflect Perry and his word choice is the following paragraph, It takes me
longer to learn something, but when I do, I learn it good (Wood, 6%). This is another example of Perry
s simple word choice due to borderline intellectual disability, but this quote also shows Perry has a
hard time learning key concepts of how to function in the wood, but can eventually learn to master
tasks. Some of these tasks may be learning to use an air compressor, and once he eventually learns
how to do these tasks he feels great joy and accomplishment. Another major character in the story is
Perry s Grandma, or Gram. Gram seems to have a word choice that shows that she is a person who has
worked hard for what she has, and she hold strong traditional values usually attached to around the
time period of the Baby Boomers generation. This quote showing this being the following, Those blue

Adolescent Soldiers
Al Qaeda. AK 47s. Anarchy. Adolescent soldiers. These concepts are just a few that surface when
contemplating problems in the Middle East. Yet the present plight of half of its people is largely
pushed under the rug; in third world countries, women dismissed as inferior are denied the right to
learn. This prevailing attitude that females are subordinate, second rate humans prevents millions of
women from receiving an education. Eradicating this inequality by promoting schooling for girls will
improve family life, the economy, and the communities of numerous nations which is why this
problem must be addressed immediately. While car bombs, drone attacks, and government coups grab

For instance, if schools are available, daughters can rely on education not acquired husbands to
support themselves, thereby decreasing the frequency of child brides. Also, if girls are encouraged to
learn, they will be exposed to information about contraceptives effectively delaying pregnancy until
reaching maturity and financial stability. Among married Egyptians, those lacking education married
at 18 on average, and bore their firstborn by 20; those with a secondary or higher education wedded at
an older average age of 23, and had their first child at 25 (Roudi Fahimi Moghadam, 2003). Not only
will a smaller, wealthier population ease burdened economies, but health costs also drop with the rise
in female instruction. Children born to literate mothers are 50% more likely to survive past five than
children with illiterate mothers (2011). Besides reducing child mortality, cases of HIV decline if
women attend school. A study in Uganda revealed that every year of education reduces girls chances
of HIV by 6.7%; knowledge about how the disease is transmitted forewarns females about potential
dangers before becoming infected (2011). Just imagine the thousands of graves, tombstones carved
with loving daughter , and caring mother , that won t exist because women were presented information
to avoid contracting HIV. Even disregarding all the spared innocents, there are massive economic
benefits of teaching females such as the increase in women s earning potential and job opportunities.
Only a year of primary school elevates women s wages by 10 20%, secondary education results in a
15 25% gain (2011). In turn, with more mothers, sisters, and daughters working above slave pay
alongside men rather than beneath them both the economy, and the family, grow more prosperous.

Analysis Of The True Prison By Ken Saro Wiwa
The definition of a prison in Google states, a building in which people are legally held as a
punishment for a crime they have committed or while awaiting trial, but is a true prison? Although
places seem free, the people can be truly trapped through the lack of ability to express oneself.
Without the capability to express oneself people feel stifled, cut off from the world around them,
resulting in them feeling locked up. Through the use of opposition as a metaphor for imprisonment in

The leaking roof and mosquitoes are signs unfair treatment in a jail which can seem overwhelming for
most people, however; the idea of moral ineptitude, lack of morals, and mental decrepitude, the mental
state of being worn out, was what brought down our the author. The abusers lack of morals caused the
mental decrepitude which entraps the author. He is unable to escape because he was worn down and
gave into the propaganda, and is in his true prison. The author sounds like he was about to give into
mental decrepitude and be unable to stand up against the oppressors. Overall, the prison is a mental
state when one begins to accept the ideas forced upon oneself, instead of standing up for one s own
beliefs. This is the metaphor of lack of expression because the author cannot stand up for his beliefs
and is being worn down until he no longer can speak out. The opposition of the free world and a
prison is the metaphor of imprisonment through the lack of expression. Towards the end of the poem,
he convinces the reader with one final statement of what makes a true prison. He proclaims, It is
this/Dear friend, turns our free world/Into a dreary prison (Wiwa 29 30). People of the author s
country seem to live in a so called free world which was supposed to be happy and lively but then he
reveals the truth to the reader about the reality of the country. By using it is this... he was comparing

Media s Influence On The Public Perception Of The Media
Journalism is an industry that provides a source of information and news for the public, while popular
culture is a source of portrayal of the image of the journalist. Popular culture provides a glimpse and
shapes the people s impressions of the news media , whether it is portrayed in a positive or negative
light. There is no denying that popular culture possesses a large effect on what the public perceives
and thinks about journalists and the industry through how the characters, plotlines are presented.
Sociologists have even argued that popular culture s depictions...of real world professions have a
major influence on the public s realistic perception of that respective field. Thus, it is not a surprise
that in the 1930s, journalist organizations deliberately advocated positive portrayals of the press in
Hollywood. An example of a film that stands as a positive representation is The Front Page. Although
the film presents reporters and editors lying and hurting innocent people , the audience is able to fall
for their unique charm and charisma they are brash, fast paced, intelligent, composed, independent,
passionate and investigative. They embody what America ultimately champions: self reliance, drive
for action and accomplishment. However, popular culture also perpetuates negative, unlovable notions
that journalists [are] hard drinking, foul mouthed social misfits concerned with only twisting the truth .

Evaluations Validity Grades ad Evalutation
Evaluations validity and the extent to which grades and satisfaction interrelate have created a
problematic since their inception. The problematic exists not only at the Université libre de Bruxelles
but also on a global level. Throughout the past years, several studies have been conducted, providing
evidence concerning this particular topic.
In regard with factors affecting the evaluations of instructor performance, the literature indicated that
there are indeed a series of factors that affect those evaluations. It is therefore vital to monitor those
factors so that the true performance can be evaluated. Such factors are average grade of the taught
course (Germain and Scandura (2005), Ellis, Burke, Lomire and McCormack (2003), Feldman (1976),
Norvilitis and Zhang (2009)), instructor enthusiasm and charisma (Ware Williams (1975), Ware
Williams (1977), Naftulin, Ware and Donnelly (1973)), workload (H.W. Marhs (1980), H.W. Marsh
(1982)), expected grade for the taught course (H.W. Marsh (1980), H.W. Marsh (1982)) and class size
(Frey (1978), Bausell and Bausell (1979), Ellis, Burke, Lomire and McCormack (2003)). Although
some of those factors are difficult to monitor, an evaluation should take them into account whilst
assessing a certain instructor for a certain course. Without controlling for those factors, evaluations
offer little information about an instructor s true performance (Stapleton, R. J., Murkison, G. (2001)).
Moreover, the literature provides evidence

The Extermination Camp At Chelmno Concentration Camp
During the Nazi Holocaust, multiple working and death camps were created to hold the captured Jews.
While the Jews lived in this camp, they were tortured, mistreated, worked to death and eventually
were put to death by either execution by firearm or were put into a death camp which exterminated the
Jews using poison gas. The Nazi Party had developed many death camps in the central european area
including the 6 death camps of Poland; Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec, Chelmno, Sobibor, and
Majdanek.
Little has been published on Chelmno due to its significance as the first extermination camp to
become operational death camp. Chelmno concentration camp was established in November 1941 and
was exclusively used for the executions of Soviet prisoners and Jews, most of whom were Polish. The
extermination camp at Chelmno demands special attention, because during the German occupation
only a very few people in Poland ever knew of its existence and the hundreds of thousands of its
victims. Chelmno introduced the most deadly phase of the Holocaust. Its victims were from 36
communities in western Poland, along with 88 children from Czech town whose population was
decimated as a collective reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in May of 1942. The
facilities at Chelmno included three gas vans and two crematoria. Gassing at Chelmno began on
December 8, 1941 just hours before Pearl Harbor was struck by Japanese planes. By June of 1942,
Chelmno has produced 20 gas chambers from

female body. This beauty queen and ballerina confidently identifies herself as an Afro Latina.
As a ballerina, she is constantly exposed to the criticisms of targeting the black woman s body. More
than half a century ago, Raven Wilkinson became one of the very first African American ballerinas
who worked for a prominent ballet company. However, she danced under the premise that she must

Aside from being a beauty queen and a ballerina, Lee is also an outspoken activist. She raves how the
Miss Black USA pageant helps serve women of color by helping them achieve their education and
academic goals.
The real reason many women join pageants is not really because they want to achieve a beauty status
but it is actually to gain money for scholarship. Most are trying to finish college while others are
pursuing a master s degree. Joining a pageant can help them achieve that.
Lee feels that beauty pageants helps empower women and they do not exploit women as others paint
the contests to be. She thinks that people perceive pageant contestants in a negative way because they
don t know the real story behind it.
The media and the show producers do tend to glamorize and sensationalize the event. However, when
you break it down, it s actually an interview contest where the judges needs to see if you are in fact the

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein Feminism

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein: Feminism before it was mainstream? Writing a paper on the topic of
Frankenstein days before Halloween might give you the wrong idea lets clear something up straight
away Frankenstein is the doctor not the monster and the monster doesn t have a name (which we later
learn is mildly important to the story). You see, Mary Shelley s Frankenstein is arguably a story of
creation, murder, love, and learning amongst many other sad and depressing themes that perhaps root
from Mary Shelley s life. Mary Shelley s mother, Mary Wollstonecraft was a well known feminist
author, that may have influenced her daughter s work despite passing away a mere eleven days after ...

This could essentially be carried on making a connection between the two suggesting their method of
pursing knowledge was unconventional and untraditional. One should be reminded that the method in
which the monster absorbed knowledge is by hiding in a shelter built next to a shed owned by the De
Lacey s and peering into a crack learning as they do, listening to them read and spectating the teaching
of Safie. The monster learns everything she does from English vocabulary and reading to history. He
learns about good and evil, human societies and reads three books found in the woods as well as the
papers in the dressing gown he took from Frankenstein. This idea of not being the subject of the
teaching, not being allowed to learn could be connected to that of women s education around 1818
when the book was published. Mary Shelley perhaps had some access to education but may not have
been able to truly pursue her goals with higher education. According to an article on Shelley, she didn
t have a formal education, but she did make great use of her father s extensive library. . This goes to
show that the mere idea or suggestion that one can make connections to Shelley and the monster is not
so farfetched after all. Yet perhaps it is not only the monster that Shelley relates to. Indeed, Victor
Frankenstein himself had many accounts that could be connected to Mary over his fictional yet short
lifetime living only to twenty five years old. As you know over the

Creative Teacher Research Paper
When I first started creative writing, I knew only two things about the teacher: she had purple and
gray hair and she was an ex marine. She walked into class and looked appalled that we had the
audacity to sit in five perfectly straight rows of five chairs. The first thing she made us do was put our
desks in a circle. It was right then and there that I wondered what the heck I had gotten myself into.
My creative writing teacher is by far the teacher who has had the most impact on my life. She is a
realist and understood that not everything in life was all good and fine. Real life is gritty, she would
say. Let your writing reflect that. Before that, there was always a set of rules to follow in writing: no

Jack Kerouac’s On The Road
Impact of Dean on Sal s Identity in On the Road
In part I, chapter 3 of Jack Kerouac s On the Road, Sal arrives at Des Moines and checks into a cheap,
dirty motel room. He sleeps all day and awakens in time to witness the setting sun. As he looks around
the unfamiliar room, Sal realizes that he doesn t understand his own identity. Identity lost, he states I
was half way across America, at the dividing line between the East of my youth and the West of my
future. He has lost the calming influence of his aunt, and Dean and partners are not around to feed his
wild streak. The only clues to his identity are to be found in the strange motel room. This appeal to
emotion gives the reader personal hints to identify with.

Without exception, it changes every time he encounters new circumstances and surroundings. On the
way to visit Old Bull Lee in New Orleans during part II, chapter 6, Sal is driving while Dean and
Mary Lou are asleep. He is alone with time to think to himself, and he does not know what he is doing
or where he is going. The style of the passage intrigues the reader; All alone in the night I had my own
thoughts and held the car to the white line in the holy road. Dean is no longer mentally present to lead
him and feed his identity. Sal has no one to show him the way and he is forced to cling to his physical
surroundings for comfort. His entire existence centers around following the straight line in the road. In
chapter 7, after the stay with Old Bull, Dean is ready to leave and hit the road again. Sal is compelled
to go with him although he would really like to stay with Bull awhile. Again, Kerouac uses emotion to
move the reader, because most people have been torn between following one of two friends at some
point.
In chapter 8 of part two, Dean steals gas and oil as Sal runs into the station and takes bread and cheese
while the owners are in back eating dinner. Sal seems to be adapting his personality to that of Dean s.

seem to want anything to do with it. This schizophrenic behavior appears throughout the book,
prohibiting one from understanding who Sal is

The Doctrine Of Jesus Christ
Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand,
and will not give unto him of my food that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just...whosoever
doeth this the same hath great cause to repent (The Book of Mormon Mosiah 4:16). This progressive
quote promotes social welfare and an idea of charity and love that many mainstream Republicans
today do not support. Believe it or not, this is not a statement recently made on some left wing
political talk show, this is directly from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This same message is echoed
throughout all the books of scripture. The doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches the principles of
compassion, equality, forgiveness, tolerance, and most importantly love; the political ideology that
sides with these ideals is on the left. Stephen Colbert said, If this is going to be a Christian nation that
doesn t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we ve got to
acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then
admit that we just don t want to do it. The teachings of Jesus Christ do not contradict liberal beliefs,
therefore we, as His disciples, should be more open to non conservative political ideals. For I was an
hungered, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me
in (King James Version Matthew 25:35). This verse emphasizes one of Christ s

The Effects Of Alcohol On Alcohol Abuse Essay
Dependance on alcohol has been around ever since its creation and records of writing existed. From
Biblical commandments clearly restricting the drink due to its destructive and addictive nature to the
celebrities on tv screens and music devices glorifying the substance, alcohol has always been part of
various cultures. Being the number one drug problem in the U.S with over 12 million people
reportedly being alcoholics and of those 7 million being binge drinkers between the ages 12 20, it
comes as no surprise that beneath its shiny and glamorous exterior, this drink comes with its set of
problems ( Alcohol Abuse Statistics. ). In American society today many people think that being an
alcoholic simply stems from laziness and the lack of will to simply stop. There is much more to this
disorder than having one too many drinks at a bar that people are either ignorant to or just ignore for
the sake of judging other individuals. Just like famous English philosopher,William Penn, said: All
excess is ill, but drunkenness is of the worst sort. It spoils health, dismounts the mind, and unmans
men. It reveals secrets, is quarrelsome, lascivious, impudent, dangerous and mad. ( Alcoholism
Quotes. ). So with all these consequences associated with alcohol, why do people drink? What is
alcoholism? Who does it affect? Why does it happen? How can it be solved? Dependance on alcohol,
otherwise known as alcoholism is defined as a treatable chronic disease where your body becomes

Charles Schaeffer And Friedrich Nietzsche Essay
Introduction Born nearly 70 years apart from each other, Francis Schaeffer and Friedrich Nietzsche
were two very important figures in creating the modern philosophy. Two different men that studied
two different parts of philosophy. Because of their differences, most are unable to recognize their
many similarities. Each of the men had the things they studied, but the basis of their theories were
almost identical.
Nietzsche
One of the commendable influential philosophers in the history of ideas and a gifted stylist in his
native German, Friedrich Nietzsche undertook a radical re evaluation of established ideas and
critiqued moral values during his career. One of Nietzsche s primary studies was on the problem of
morality. However, he seems to contradict himself on the matter of values. Tansesi claims it is because
of the different definitions of value values in a descriptive sense as that which is thought to be of value
by an individual or by the members of a group, and values in a normative sense as that which is
objectively of value (652). Because of Nietzsche s committed denial of any moral values, it would
seem impossible to attribute him to him a commitment to the existence of any values in the normative
sense (652). In Thus Spake Zarathustra, he claims that to value is to create, and that it is only through
valuing that there is value. In the same section it is also claimed that men did not discover values, nor
were they given by a god; rather, human beings

The Importance Of Servant Leadership As A Pastor
The Importance of Servant Leadership in a Pastor Jay Marlowe When it comes to looking at the
qualifications for a pastor, the question that comes to my mind is How important is servant leadership
is to him? Aside from the educational preparation and pastoral internship training, having a sincere,
humble heart is essential. The Bible tells us in Mark 10:42 45(ESV) 42 And Jesus called them to him
and said to them, You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and
their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would
be great among you must be your servant, [a] 44 and whoever would be first among you must be

Markov Chain Model
MODELING CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
AS MARKOV CHAINS
Phillip E. Pfeifer
Robert L. Carraway f INTRODUCTION
The lifetime value of a customer is an important and useful concept in interactive marketing.
Courtheaux (1986) illustrates its usefulness for a number of managerial problems the most obvious if
not the most important being the budgeting of marketing expenditures for customer acquisition. It can
also be used to help allocate spending across media (mail vs. telephone vs. television), vehicles (list A
vs. list B), and programs (free gift vs. special price), as well as to inform decisions with respect to
retaining existing customers (see, e.g., Hughes, 1997). Jackson
(1996) even argues that its use helps firms to achieve a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They offer five such mathematical models, couched in the Dwyer customer retention/migration
classification scheme. While
Dwyer illustrates the calculation of LTV using two extensive numerical examples, Berger and Nasr
provide mathematical equations for LTV for five situations four involving customer retention and one
involving customer migration.
Blattberg and Deighton (1996) also formulate a mathematical model for LTV, for the purpose of
helping managers decide the optimal balance between customer acquisition spending (investments to
convince prospects to become customers) and customer retention spending (investments to convince
current customers to continue purchasing from the firm).
Whereas the Berger and Nasr models apply only to customers (people or organizations who have
already purchased from the firm), the Blattberg and Deighton model applies specifically to prospects
(people or organizations who have yet to purchase from the firm). Because the Blattberg and Deighton
model uses an infinite horizon, their resulting equation for LTV is quite simple and easy to evaluate,
and involves none of the summation operators on which the Berger and
Nasr finite horizon models rely.
This paper builds directly on the work of
Berger and Nasr (1998) and Blattberg and
Deighton (1996) in that it introduces a general class of mathematical models, Markov Chain
Models, which are appropriate for modeling customer relationships

Hamlet, By William Shakespeare
During the course of Shakespeare s Hamlet , the character of young Hamlet exemplifies an often
puzzling and ambivalent persona. During the play, Hamlet is often contradicting of himself. By role
playing, or self fashioning, Hamlet is able to balance his virtues in order to stay true to himself. This is
demonstrated by his decisions to act upon something, as well as his inactions to not act upon
something. The obscurity of Hamlet s mannerisms are displayed within two conflicting personas: one
that is perceived as calm and rational; the other displaying utter madness and loss of control. These
conflicting behaviors are revealed within Hamlet s internal struggles to kill those responsible for his
father s murder, or to act responsibly and virtuous, and await further proof of their guilt. Throughout
the play, Hamlet teeters on the brink of insanity induced by his actions, or inactions, but never actually
crosses the threshold of insanity by balancing the virtues of playing a role and self fashioning, with
looking at his own sense of self to rationalize his actions throughout the play.
Clarification of Hamlet s sanity first appears in act one, by his statements and feelings expressed
within his dialogue. Seems madam? Nay, it is. I know not seems (1.2.76). When young Hamlet is
asked about his depressive appearance and demeanor by Gertrude, Hamlet denotes that this is what is
perceived. This relates the idea that Hamlet is only what he appears to be as seen by the other

Informative Speech About Bacteria

going over something fascinating. Today we will be going over bacteria! If I Must remind you guy s, a
man from the government will be coming in to see what I Have discovered so please show him respect

kind but the kind used in wars and deadly attacks. Sadly we can t see it with the human eye but thanks
to technology we have microscopes, so please line up and one at a time look through the tube and
observe the bacteria. Now what you are looking at is one of the most deadly bacteria currently known

Just in Time
1. Executive Summary
This report provides an analysis and evaluation of the Just In Time system, the advantages and
disadvantages of the system and how it would benefit AG Z. The Just In Time (JIT) system is a
process where goods are ordered as required, as opposed to the currently used batch processing system
where goods are made in bulk and stored in warehouses until sold. The Just In Time system was
initially developed to not only cut down the amount of waste produced by other systems, which was
seen as incurring unnecessary costs rather than adding value to the company, but to also meet
customer demands with minimum delays. It has been found that when implemented correctly the JIT
system can benefit the company in numerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In its simplest terms, the Kanban system is used to alert the production team exactly what needs to be
produced, the quantity required and the designated time frame (Horngren, George Srikant 1997).
5. Expected Results
The Batch Processing System currently used at AG Z is a system where products are produced in bulk
quantities or batches whether required by the customer or not. These goods are then stored in
warehouses until required. This process produces large amounts of waste in both inventory and
warehousing as the goods are not sold immediately, and could be required to be held for any length of
time.
The Just in Time system however is a process that produces necessary products as required. This
system is highly beneficial as it reduces the amount of inventory waste, as the goods are made to
order. It also reduces warehousing costs as the goods are made and shipped directly to the customer
rather than being held for extended periods at the warehouse.
As a result of these benefits, the JIT system has been particularly effective for companies with a high
customer demand on newly developed technologies such as computers. If the product is produced
when required and as specified by the customer, this not only allows the customer to order exactly
what they want with modern technology, but it also benefits the manufacturer who is guaranteed a
return on the goods straight

Native American Primitiveness
When I was in the 6th grade my friend Loa told me about her dead great great great great grandfather,
Chief Little Crow, who was the chief of the Mdewakanton Dakota people. She told me that when
archeologists unearthed Little Crow, they placed his bones and spirit in a glass box in the Minnesota
State capitol. She said that it took her family more than a decade to properly rebury his body. While I
drank my chocolate banana milkshake, she described her hatred of white people who wore white lab
coats. I hate them, she insisted, Why do they dig up my ancestors as if they are trophies? At the time, I
did not realize that Loa s hatred of archeologists has been inherited as a result of a decade s long tug of
war between science and indigenous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This black or white categorical system that Western science has created can be greatly offensive not
only to indigenous people, but to many other cultures. Tribes claim that Western science has
dehumanized and objectified them. Moreover, Western scientists have used the collected data as
evidence of Native American s primitiveness compared to Europeans. Indigenous people have
suffered unimaginable pain and literal torture for over 500 years because of the misconception that
they are savages, and meant for extinction. The historic oppression of Native Americans by Euro
Americans, who are the ancestors of most present day archaeologists, is a principal factor in the
standoff between science and belief. The ancestors of most white archeologists fought to not only kill
a few hundred Native Americans, but to remove any traces of them. Ironically, the same Euro
Americans who escaped oppressors and tyrants in search of religious freedom, became oppressors
themselves. The white invasion stripped Native Americans of their long hair for short hair, their tribal
wear for European buckskin clothing, and their ancestral religions for the less weird Christian religion.
Repeatedly, Native Americans beliefs and culture have been violated. According to my childhood
friend Loa, Native Americans have a spiritual obligation to make sure that the deceased are
comfortable in the afterlife. Many tribe members never say the name of a loved one after they have
passed in order for their spirit to remain at peace. I cannot imagine the amount of devastation,
sickness, and anger tribal members must feel when they learn that their ancestors have been unearthed,
tested, published, polished, and placed on display at their local

Social Differentiation And Separation Of Latin American...
Cities have been traditionally seen as the breeding grounds for citizenship, the latter usually framed in
terms of dwellers having specific rights, duties, some sort of political participation and frequent
interactions with each other. Yet, urbanization can also present many challenges that further
disenfranchise and marginalize residents. As the most urbanized region in the world, Latin American
cities highlight both of these sceneries. Industrialization and neoliberal economic policies led to the
continent s rapid urbanization, introducing large developments but also deeply segregated urban
centers, characterised by strong tensions between their formal and informal dimensions. Latin
American leaders efforts to tackle this issue have presented both setbacks and opportunities to
transform the city into a more integrated space, and set the path to recognize every dwellers right to
the city: to be in it, to enjoy it, and to build it.
Social differentiation and separation have been frequent characteristics of Latin American cities, in
both physical, psychological and cultural terms. As Teresa Caldeira indicates in City of Walls, the
pattern of segregation in Latin America traditionally obeyed the center periphery model where the
middle and upper classes lived in legalized neighborhood in the center of the cities, while the poor
inhabited the mostly illegal precarious fringe. For most of the 20th century, social housing estates
outside of the metropolis were believed to be

The Old Gringo, by Carlos Fuen
The Old Gringo, Carlos Fuentes The Old Gringo is a fiction novel written by one of Latin America
#8217;s most renowned and eloquent authors, Carlos Fuentes. Filled with war, adventure, love and
more, this novel takes you back to the Mexican revolution fought in 1912. This contemporary fiction
is based on many themes found and experienced by the main characters in this novel. The relationship
between Mexico and the United States, the drive to find one #8217;s true self and the different ways
two men need a woman are only a few themes contained in this story. The question: Is he Ambrose

In this novel, Miss Harriet has an affair with Tomas Arroyo to save the old gringo #8217;s life.
Supposedly, Arroyo claimed that he would kill the gringo unless she slept with him. At the end of the
story, Harriet despises Tomas Arroyo for everything he does and learns to love the old gringo as a
father. The old gringo is a very mysterious, adventure and death seeking character. He comes to
Mexico in search of death, hoping that he could just die in the battlefield. We learn that he had his own
family, but all were dead or wanted nothing to do with him. He was a bitter American journalist who
had made an abrupt break with his past and is riding into Mexico to join Pancho Villa #8217;s
revolutionary army. Clues suggest that if this man were ever named he would prove to be Ambrose
Bierce, an American journalist, who vanished from the United States into Mexico during 1913. In the
end of this story, he is killed by Tomas Arroyo and is taken back into the U.S. to be buried in Miss
Harriet #8217;s father #8217;s empty grave in Arlington. This character was very well respected for
his bravery shown in the field and his special qualities that made Miss Harriet love him so much.

Ethnographic Observation Report
A robot s affective state can be assessed on several levels, such as its contextual understanding of the
world, the appropriateness of the affective responses it displays, and the degree to which it expresses
an affective state. To perform these assessments, robot designers can actually employ some of the
same techniques as described in the Section 4.1, particularly ethnographic observation, interviews and
surveys. The difference is that the robot becomes the focus of evaluation instead of the user, and its
affective expression is what is measured. Subjects are usually given emotion recognition tests specific
tasks that subject them to the various affective states of the robot for which they have to identify the

Performance Enhancing Drugs Should Be Banned

Moreover, the Ancient Greeks who acted with these substances were punished by becoming a slave if

doping is still used to a great extent. However, we have much stronger substances that are commonly
abused. These substances consist of deadly steroids by the use of injections or pills. Claudia Reardon
and Shane Creado (2014) explain, In 1998, police found a large number of prohibited substances,
including ampoules of erythropoietin, in a raid during the Tour de France (History of Doping in
Athletes, para. 10). In today s generation, law enforcement officers are taking action and busting
individuals that have or are taking performance enhancing drugs. One of the most recent cases of drug
busts involved gold medal olympian Usain Bolt. According to the CNN Library (2017), The IOC
[International Olympic Committee] rules that Usain Bolt s 2008 gold medal in the 4x100m relay no
longer counts after one of his teammates tests positive for methylhexaneamine, a banned substance
(PEDSFF, para. 47). Just one slip up of a team member can strip all the fame from an individual. Over
the past few decades, several organizations have been formed to prevent substance abuse in athletes.
One of the many organizations that have been created to crack down and bust people that abuse
substances for performance enhancement include the World Anti Doping Agency abbreviated as
WADA. The WADA was

Alpha Synuclein Protein
Degenerative diseases are due to aggregation of proteins within specific neurons. These proteins are
overproduced as a result of an overactive gene. This process interferes with normal cellular function
leading to multiple degenerative diseases and is a field that requires researchers to find treatments.
The alpha synuclein protein is abundant in the brain and can be found also in other parts of the body.
In the brain, it is mainly found at the tips of neurons called the presynaptic terminals. Presynaptic
terminals release neurotransmitters which talk to neurons to perform normal brain function. Though
the function isn t clearly understood, it has been found to interact with dopamine neurotransmitter (1)

When this gene is expressed, Tau protein is able to stabilize microtubules via two ways: isoforms and
phosphorylation. Isoforms are defined as having different variations of the same protein and can be
involved in alerting domains by deletion or creating shorter loops. In the brain, there are six isoforms
of tau protein that exist. They differ in either three or four binding domains in the c terminal (carboxyl
terminal) which helps to make microtubules stable. (3) These binding regions have also been found to
have a role in development and regulate function of microtubules in axon. Phosphorylation is the
addition of a phosphoryl compound which can turn protein enzymes on and off which can change
functions of cellular activity. Different processes can cause Tau phosphorylation which results in
activity of specific kinases and phosphatases towards serine and threonine sites (3). This activity will
influence how microtubules are assembled. With differences in age, we will see different activation
and deactivation of different tau proteins on microtubules

Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man
Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is an excellent novel, written by James Joyce, about the life of
Stephen Dedalus and how he overcame the barriers of his family and his religion to pursue his life as a
writer. Drawing on details based on his own early life, Joyce provides us with insight into how his
own imagination worked (Gose, 267). Extensive use of stream of consciousness, which represent the
character s inner thoughts and perceptions, and like human thoughts jumping from one thought to the
next, oftentimes make Portrait a hard reading. This is however intentional as Joyce wants his readers
to be obliged to re create his own space in the inner universe of the text, to participate in a sort of
intransitive discourse, one that bears no fixed meaning in relation to external reality which tends, in
fact, to destroy referentiality and with it, the readers sense of balance (Sabatini, 95). Joyce wants his
readers to experience Stephen s inner thoughts starting from a young age, and to see the world from
his perspective. Once upon a time and a very good time it was there was a moocow coming along the
road and this moocow that was coming down along the road met a nicens little boy named baby
tuckoo.... (Joyce, 5). Joyce s Portrait, his introduction to Stephen, his introduction to himself begins
with a story, expressing just how important art is in Joyce s life, and in a way, in Stephen s life.
Stephen is just a small boy then to whom his father is reading a children s

Honor In The Odysseus
In the Disney movie Mulan, a young heroine, Mulan, disguises herself as a man to fight for her
country and restore honor to her family. She, similar to Odysseus, must save her country from
invaders, The Huns for Mulan and the suitors for Odysseus. Both protagonists face many trials that
test their loyalty and honor. And both prevail, becoming great, respected leaders of their people. Honor
as well as loyalty are significant characteristics of a respected person. The Odyssey, written by Homer
in the eighth century BCE, is a common story with multiple retellings that focuses on the journey of
Odysseus and his son Telemachus. Odysseus is a war hero of the Trojan War, and the tale focuses on
the conflicts he faces while journeying home. In this story, Odysseus shows how honor and loyalty
play a pivotal role in defining the success of a leader, and how the absence of these traits leads to
anarchy and turmoil within a ruler s domain.
The necessity of honor and loyalty in a ruler are seen during the Odysseus absence in his kingdom of
Ithaka. During the 16th year that Odysseus is missing, suitors come from all over the land to win the
hand of Odysseus wife, Penelope, presuming Odysseus is dead. Because Odysseus is absent, the
country is having a turn for the worse with the arrival of the suitors. The suitors take over the royal
residence, [the suitors] use our house as if it were a house to plunder (Homer 9). Without a ruler

Rhode Island Vs South Dakota Essay
South Dakota vs Rhode Island How much of a difference is there in the daily life of a midwesterner
compared to an east coast resident? How does one s life differ in the same country, but across a
distance of over 1,551 miles? These factors are what makes one area or another a highly sought after
place to live. Comparing my time living in North Kingston, Rhode Island to my time living in
Garretson, South Dakota will show that both are great places, but the atmosphere and daily life of
Rhode Island really set the two places apart, making it a better place to live. To illustrate my point,
there are enough beaches in Rhode Island one could go to a different beach everyday for weeks. The
cities and towns are stock full of things to do, ranging from parks, historic sites, and places to shop or

wait for generations to be able to purchase dock space in Newport. One major difference I have
noticed from living in the two different areas is in the attitude of the people and environment.
Compared to more conservative states like South Dakota, the people of Rhode Island are much more
open minded. A lot of the people in the city are much more open to growth, change, or stepping

other religions and cultures throughout history. In Judaism, the role of women is greatly overlooked.
Feminist and other females who feel passionate about their rights have changed the world for the

times, the middle ages, and even now in modern day, feminist Jews are still fighting for laws and
rights they feel they should have.

different social role than men, and sometimes known as inferior to men. This was a social issue
because woman had to be told where they were allowed to go and what they were allowed to do

The roles of Jewish women have truly have not changed that much throughout the years, although
some women greatly impacted the changes that have happened. The role of women in a synagogue is
limited even nowadays. Some examples of this is that women are not allowed to lead services, a
women reading voluntarily from the Torah does not count towards the obligations of the community to

Although society s roles for women have changed, true Jewish beliefs have not changed much for the
roles of women. Therefore, the role of the Jewish women is not easily defined. Each woman develops

Health Behavior Change Project
In everyday life many people develop habits, but it is never too late to attempt to change that bad habit
to live a healthier life. For this behavioral change project, I was asked to choose a health behavior that
I would like to change for the better. So, I decided that I wanted to increase the amount of water I was
consuming each day. The standard recommendation on how much water an individual should consume
is about 64 ounces daily. However how much a person should drink is more individualized then one
might assume. Therefore, for this particular project my goal was to at least consume 64 ounces of

for wanting to increase my daily water intake. For instance, I want to incorporate drinking more water,
because I know that it plays such an essential role in a persons overall health. Changing this behavior
will ultimately benefit me in now and in the future. Also, not drinking enough water fatigues the body
and muscles, especially for those that are actively exercising. Since, I have been incorporating more
exercise into my daily routine, it is important that I also incorporate at least the recommended daily

civilization. For Joe, that is the world he lives in. Joe, has managed to become the only human to
survive the apocalypse, and now lives the rest of his days by himself. Eventually and inevitably, Joe
becomes bored, and in his post apocalyptic boredom, he decides to go on a quest to kill all animals
and plants left on earth. On the basis of Kantian ethics, Joe killing all livings things on Earth is
morally correct. The first reason this is considered right is because Kantian ethics follows the
Principle of Humanity. The Principle of Humanity states: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Land Ethic states that an action is right if it tends to preserve the integrity, stability, and beauty of
the biotic community (leopold 6). The biotic community includes soils, waters, plants, and animals
(Leopold 2) . When the Land Ethic is applied to Joe s action of killing all plants and animals, he is
committing a huge violation because he is not maintaining the balance and beauty of the land, instead
he is doing the exact opposite and destroying it by killing all living things. He is also ignoring the
holistic principle of the Land Ethic meaning that humans are a members of the biotic community, not
rulers (Leopold 2). When Joe decided to kill all living plants and animals, he made his choice not as
an equal member of the biotic, but as a superior being. He also broke the Second Second Order
Principle. The Second Second Order Principle says that stronger interests take priority over weaker
interests (Callicott 86). Stronger interests include things needed for basic survival while weaker
interests include less important needs or wants (Callicott 87). In Joe s case, the plants and animals will
to survive would be more important than his lack of entertainment. Because of this, Joe broke the
Second Second Order Principle, and therefore violated the Land Ethic again. With this being said,
according to the Land Ethic Joe was wrong, both when he decided that he was above the rest of the
biotic community, that fixing his boredom was more important than the lives of all living organisms,
and when ruined the stability, integrity, and beauty of the land by killing all living plants and

The Five Stages Of The Social Penetration Theory
Social Penetration Theory The Social Penetration Theory proposes the idea that as our relationships
develop, communication goes from being very basic and superficial, to being more intimate and
fulfilling. There are five stages in the theory, the first being the Orientation stage, which usually means
small talk, and sticking to conversational norms. The Exploratory stage is when two friends reveal
their opinions on things such as politics, music, and education, but most relationships do not exceed
this stage. The Affective stage is when two people get to know more about each other s personal
experiences. Things like inside jokes, and intimate conversations are what encompass the Affective
stage. The Stable stage in a relationship is when individuals share their deepest thoughts, morals,
ideas, and experiences. Stable relationships are very open, honest, and aim to benefit each person. The
last stage, which is optional, is the De penetration stage, which is when the relationships drawbacks
exceed the benefits, which results in the end of the relationship. In her article, Yea Wen describes how
relationships become more gratifying as the stages described in the Social Penetration Theory go on.
Additionally, the foundation of social penetration theory lies in the assumption that making the self
known or accessible to others through self disclosure is intrinsically gratifying, and this, in turn, leads
to the development of positive feelings for the others (Yea Wen 81). I can

Charlemagne and the Saxon War
Every historian interprets the past differently and with distinctive perspectives, resulting in many sides
to one story. Often the reader must decide which perspective is more logical, likely, or coherent.
Recounting one war took a lot of time and effort because of the necessity to include all sides of the
story. Becher, Barbero, Collins and Backman have approached the life of Charlemagne with different
points of view; however, Barbero seems to have the strongest argument for the cause of the Saxon
War. The other historians were less willing to see the Saxon war as a religious war. The life of
Charlemagne was interesting to historians because it was filled with many vigorous wars that he
fought including the infamous Saxon War. From the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even with the threats of destruction, the stubbornness of the Saxons continued. When war began, the
Saxons sacrificed their prisoners of war to their gods, and the Franks killed anyone unwilling to be
baptized. Eventually, there was no place that was safe and massacres had begun that were inspired by
the Bible: Charlemagne wanted to act like a true king of Israel. The Amalekites had dared raise their
hand to betray God s people, and it was therefore right that every last one of them should be
exterminated (47). Charlemagne then imposed a law saying anyone who offended the Christian
religion and its clergy would be put to death or forced to convert. The final act of the war was the
deportation of the Saxons and granting their land to close by Slavic community.
On the other hand, the Einhard came up with a different instigation of the war. He did not relate it to
Christianity as strongly as Barbero did. His view of the cause of the war was because the peace
between the people was not sustaining. This eventually led to the Franks refusing to make any
comebacks, but instead going to war with the Saxons. This war was thought to be a thirty three year
war with the advantage for the Franks. However, Einhard does state that the war was based on a
religious disagreement, but only slightly. The Saxons were conquered many times over the years

The play A View from the Bridge by Arthur Miller is set in New York in the 1950s. During this period of time there were many illegal immigrants from Eastern Europe moving in to America. This was due to the depression caused by the Second World War. The depression caused a lack of work, many people started to migrate to America where there were many jobs. • 4. Essay about Italian and Northern European Renaissance Italian and Northern European Renaissance The Italian and Northern Europe Renaissances were both an important mark in history by changing the ideals of life, thought, culture, and art of the people s of this time. In this paper I will explain the motive for change in these cultures, including the similarities and differences of the two cultures. The Italian and Northern European Renaissance was the marking point for leaving behind the old ways and moving into the more classical ideals and civilizations for Italy and Northern Europe. However, Northern Europe developed their ideals more slowly then Italy did. For one thing, the north held on to Gothic (or Middle Ages ) art and architecture with a tighter, longer grip ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The classical aspects were used to humanize the Christian and secular buildings. The High Renaissance in Italy, although short lived, was extremely important on the influences of future Italian art. During the High Renaissance the main focus on Florence, for the arts, shifted to Rome due to the power and wealth from the popes. Because of the move from Florence to Rome, the two most important factors of this time, Classicism and Christianity, were merged into one. Italian ideas were also brought northward through trade and commerce into Europe, where they had a tremendous amount of influence on the artistic traditions there as well (Benton amp; DiYanni, 2008). Both the Italian and Northern European Renaissance had interest in changing their ideals in individualism, humanism, and classicism, which has a large impact on their cultures, and arts. Many of the literary works of this time expressed the same interests between Italy and Northern Europe. Examples can be seen in the writings of Petrarch (Italian) and Michel de Montaigne (Northern European). Both of these writers expressed the importance and idealism of humanism. The literature during this time was a wonderful looking glass into the similarities and differences of Italy and Northern Europe. After looking at the Italian and Northern Europe Renaissances, one can see the many similarities between the arts and cultures, but the differences of these cultures are not ... One of the characters who word choice reflects their character and gives insight to their traits is the main character, Perry. Quotes such as the following help to establish Perry s character, and gives us an idea of how he usually thinks. It is called a compressor and makes a rumble rumble noise. Media s Influence On The Public Perception Of The Media Journalism is an industry that provides a source of information and news for the public, while popular culture is a source of portrayal of the image of the journalist. Popular culture provides a glimpse and shapes the people s impressions of the news media , whether it is portrayed in a positive or negative light. There is no denying that popular culture possesses a large effect on what the public perceives and thinks about journalists and the industry through how the characters, plotlines are presented. Sociologists have even argued that popular culture s depictions...of real world professions have a major influence on the public s realistic perception of that respective field. Thus, it is not a surprise that in the 1930s, journalist organizations deliberately advocated positive portrayals of the press in Hollywood. An example of a film that stands as a positive representation is The Front Page. Although the film presents reporters and editors lying and hurting innocent people , the audience is able to fall for their unique charm and charisma they are brash, fast paced, intelligent, composed, independent, passionate and investigative. They embody what America ultimately champions: self reliance, drive for action and accomplishment. The problematic exists not only at the Université libre de Bruxelles but also on a global level. Throughout the past years, several studies have been conducted, providing evidence concerning this particular topic. In regard with factors affecting the evaluations of instructor performance, the literature indicated that there are indeed a series of factors that affect those evaluations. It is therefore vital to monitor those factors so that the true performance can be evaluated. Such factors are average grade of the taught course (Germain and Scandura (2005), Ellis, Burke, Lomire and McCormack (2003), Feldman (1976), Norvilitis and Zhang (2009)), instructor enthusiasm and charisma (Ware Williams (1975), Ware Williams (1977), Naftulin, Ware and Donnelly (1973)), workload (H.W. Marhs (1980), H.W. Marsh (1982)), expected grade for the taught course (H.W. Marsh (1980), H.W. Marsh (1982)) and class size (Frey (1978), Bausell and Bausell (1979), Ellis, Burke, Lomire and McCormack (2003)). Although some of those factors are difficult to monitor, an evaluation should take them into account whilst assessing a certain instructor for a certain course. The Nazi Party had developed many death camps in the central european area including the 6 death camps of Poland; Auschwitz, Treblinka, Belzec, Chelmno, Sobibor, and Majdanek. Little has been published on Chelmno due to its significance as the first extermination camp to become operational death camp. Chelmno concentration camp was established in November 1941 and was exclusively used for the executions of Soviet prisoners and Jews, most of whom were Polish. The extermination camp at Chelmno demands special attention, because during the German occupation only a very few people in Poland ever knew of its existence and the hundreds of thousands of its victims. Chelmno introduced the most deadly phase of the Holocaust. Its victims were from 36 communities in western Poland, along with 88 children from Czech town whose population was decimated as a collective reprisal for the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in May of 1942. The facilities at Chelmno included three gas vans and two crematoria. Gassing at Chelmno began on December 8, 1941 just hours before Pearl Harbor was struck by Japanese planes. One should be reminded that the method in which the monster absorbed knowledge is by hiding in a shelter built next to a shed owned by the De Lacey s and peering into a crack learning as they do, listening to them read and spectating the teaching of Safie. The monster learns everything she does from English vocabulary and reading to history. He learns about good and evil, human societies and reads three books found in the woods as well as the papers in the dressing gown he took from Frankenstein. This idea of not being the subject of the teaching, not being allowed to learn could be connected to that of women s education around 1818 when the book was published. Mary Shelley perhaps had some access to education but may not have been able to truly pursue her goals with higher education. According to an article on Shelley, she didn t have a formal education, but she did make great use of her father s extensive library. . The Doctrine Of Jesus Christ Perhaps thou shalt say: The man has brought upon himself his misery; therefore I will stay my hand, and will not give unto him of my food that he may not suffer, for his punishments are just...whosoever doeth this the same hath great cause to repent (The Book of Mormon Mosiah 4:16). This progressive quote promotes social welfare and an idea of charity and love that many mainstream Republicans today do not support. Believe it or not, this is not a statement recently made on some left wing political talk show, this is directly from the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This same message is echoed throughout all the books of scripture. The doctrine of Jesus Christ teaches the principles of compassion, equality, forgiveness, tolerance, and most importantly love; the political ideology that sides with these ideals is on the left. Stephen Colbert said, If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn t help the poor, either we have to pretend that Jesus was just as selfish as we are, or we ve got to acknowledge that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy without condition and then admit that we just don t want to do it. From Biblical commandments clearly restricting the drink due to its destructive and addictive nature to the celebrities on tv screens and music devices glorifying the substance, alcohol has always been part of various cultures. Being the number one drug problem in the U.S with over 12 million people reportedly being alcoholics and of those 7 million being binge drinkers between the ages 12 20, it comes as no surprise that beneath its shiny and glamorous exterior, this drink comes with its set of problems ( Alcohol Abuse Statistics. ). In American society today many people think that being an alcoholic simply stems from laziness and the lack of will to simply stop. There is much more to this disorder than having one too many drinks at a bar that people are either ignorant to or just ignore for the sake of judging other individuals. Charles Schaeffer And Friedrich Nietzsche Essay Introduction Born nearly 70 years apart from each other, Francis Schaeffer and Friedrich Nietzsche were two very important figures in creating the modern philosophy. Two different men that studied two different parts of philosophy. Because of their differences, most are unable to recognize their many similarities. Each of the men had the things they studied, but the basis of their theories were almost identical. Nietzsche One of the commendable influential philosophers in the history of ideas and a gifted stylist in his native German, Friedrich Nietzsche undertook a radical re evaluation of established ideas and critiqued moral values during his career. One of Nietzsche s primary studies was on the problem of morality. However, he seems to contradict himself on the matter of values. Tansesi claims it is because of the different definitions of value values in a descriptive sense as that which is thought to be of value by an individual or by the members of a group, and values in a normative sense as that which is objectively of value (652). Because of Nietzsche s committed denial of any moral values, it would seem impossible to attribute him to him a commitment to the existence of any values in the normative sense (652). In Thus Spake Zarathustra, he claims that to value is to create, and that it is only through valuing that there is value. In the same section it is also claimed that men did not discover values, nor were they given by a god; rather, human beings ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 20. The Importance Of Servant Leadership As A Pastor The Importance of Servant Leadership in a Pastor Jay Marlowe When it comes to looking at the qualifications for a pastor, the question that comes to my mind is How important is servant leadership is to him? Aside from the educational preparation and pastoral internship training, having a sincere, humble heart is essential. The Bible tells us in Mark 10:42 45(ESV) 42 And Jesus called them to him and said to them, You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, [a] 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave[b] of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. One can have all of the necessary scholastic credentials, but if there isn t a sincere heart for serving man, it is all in vain. A pastor can fall to his flesh if he does not keep a meek, truthful relationship with God. He can easily fall to the power of the position. Having power and authority over individuals can certainly lead to having a prideful attitude. The enemy attacks the church in all manners; a pastor is not immune to the temptations that come with being in authority. • 23. Markov Chain Model MODELING CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS AS MARKOV CHAINS Phillip E. Pfeifer Robert L. Carraway f INTRODUCTION The lifetime value of a customer is an important and useful concept in interactive marketing. Courtheaux (1986) illustrates its usefulness for a number of managerial problems the most obvious if not the most important being the budgeting of marketing expenditures for customer acquisition. It can also be used to help allocate spending across media (mail vs. telephone vs. television), vehicles (list A vs. list B), and programs (free gift vs. special price), as well as to inform decisions with respect to retaining existing customers (see, e.g., Hughes, 1997). They offer five such mathematical models, couched in the Dwyer customer retention/migration classification scheme. While Dwyer illustrates the calculation of LTV using two extensive numerical examples, Berger and Nasr provide mathematical equations for LTV for five situations four involving customer retention and one involving customer migration. Blattberg and Deighton (1996) also formulate a mathematical model for LTV, for the purpose of helping managers decide the optimal balance between customer acquisition spending (investments to convince prospects to become customers) and customer retention spending (investments to convince current customers to continue purchasing from the firm). Whereas the Berger and Nasr models apply only to customers (people or organizations who have already purchased from the firm), the Blattberg and Deighton model applies specifically to prospects (people or organizations who have yet to purchase from the firm). Because the Blattberg and Deighton model uses an infinite horizon, their resulting equation for LTV is quite simple and easy to evaluate, and involves none of the summation operators on which the Berger and Nasr finite horizon models rely. This paper builds directly on the work of Berger and Nasr (1998) and Blattberg and Deighton (1996) in that it introduces a general class of mathematical models, Markov Chain Models, which are appropriate for modeling customer relationships ... • 24. Hamlet, By William Shakespeare During the course of Shakespeare s Hamlet , the character of young Hamlet exemplifies an often puzzling and ambivalent persona. During the play, Hamlet is often contradicting of himself. By role playing, or self fashioning, Hamlet is able to balance his virtues in order to stay true to himself. This is demonstrated by his decisions to act upon something, as well as his inactions to not act upon something. The obscurity of Hamlet s mannerisms are displayed within two conflicting personas: one that is perceived as calm and rational; the other displaying utter madness and loss of control. These conflicting behaviors are revealed within Hamlet s internal struggles to kill those responsible for his father s murder, or to act responsibly and virtuous, and await further proof of their guilt. Throughout the play, Hamlet teeters on the brink of insanity induced by his actions, or inactions, but never actually crosses the threshold of insanity by balancing the virtues of playing a role and self fashioning, with looking at his own sense of self to rationalize his actions throughout the play. Clarification of Hamlet s sanity first appears in act one, by his statements and feelings expressed within his dialogue. Seems madam? Nay, it is. I know not seems (1.2.76). When young Hamlet is asked about his depressive appearance and demeanor by Gertrude, Hamlet denotes that this is what is perceived. This relates the idea that Hamlet is only what he appears to be as seen by the other ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What I Have found is something called bacteria, not the good kind but the kind used in wars and deadly attacks. Sadly we can t see it with the human eye but thanks to technology we have microscopes, so please line up and one at a time look through the tube and observe the bacteria. Now what you are looking at is one of the most deadly bacteria currently known to man (Burkholderia cepacia) if this was to leave the container and accidentally it could sink in your skin and get in your blood vessels spreading throughout your body then once it reaches the heart instant death will occur. The Just In Time (JIT) system is a process where goods are ordered as required, as opposed to the currently used batch processing system where goods are made in bulk and stored in warehouses until sold. The Just In Time system was initially developed to not only cut down the amount of waste produced by other systems, which was seen as incurring unnecessary costs rather than adding value to the company, but to also meet customer demands with minimum delays. It has been found that when implemented correctly the JIT system can benefit the company in numerous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In its simplest terms, the Kanban system is used to alert the production team exactly what needs to be produced, the quantity required and the designated time frame (Horngren, George Srikant 1997). 5. Expected Results The Batch Processing System currently used at AG Z is a system where products are produced in bulk quantities or batches whether required by the customer or not. These goods are then stored in warehouses until required. This process produces large amounts of waste in both inventory and warehousing as the goods are not sold immediately, and could be required to be held for any length of time. The Just in Time system however is a process that produces necessary products as required. This system is highly beneficial as it reduces the amount of inventory waste, as the goods are made to order. It also reduces warehousing costs as the goods are made and shipped directly to the customer rather than being held for extended periods at the warehouse. As a result of these benefits, the JIT system has been particularly effective for companies with a high customer demand on newly developed technologies such as computers. If the product is produced when required and as specified by the customer, this not only allows the customer to order exactly what they want with modern technology, but it also benefits the manufacturer who is guaranteed a return on the goods straight ... Native American Primitiveness When I was in the 6th grade my friend Loa told me about her dead great great great great grandfather, Chief Little Crow, who was the chief of the Mdewakanton Dakota people. She said that it took her family more than a decade to properly rebury his body. While I drank my chocolate banana milkshake, she described her hatred of white people who wore white lab coats. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This black or white categorical system that Western science has created can be greatly offensive not only to indigenous people, but to many other cultures. Tribes claim that Western science has dehumanized and objectified them. Moreover, Western scientists have used the collected data as evidence of Native American s primitiveness compared to Europeans. Indigenous people have suffered unimaginable pain and literal torture for over 500 years because of the misconception that they are savages, and meant for extinction. The historic oppression of Native Americans by Euro Americans, who are the ancestors of most present day archaeologists, is a principal factor in the standoff between science and belief. The ancestors of most white archeologists fought to not only kill a few hundred Native Americans, but to remove any traces of them. Ironically, the same Euro Americans who escaped oppressors and tyrants in search of religious freedom, became oppressors themselves. The white invasion stripped Native Americans of their long hair for short hair, their tribal wear for European buckskin clothing, and their ancestral religions for the less weird Christian religion. Repeatedly, Native Americans beliefs and culture have been violated. According to my childhood friend Loa, Native Americans have a spiritual obligation to make sure that the deceased are comfortable in the afterlife. Many tribe members never say the name of a loved one after they have passed in order for their spirit to remain at peace. • 29. Social Differentiation And Separation Of Latin American... Cities have been traditionally seen as the breeding grounds for citizenship, the latter usually framed in terms of dwellers having specific rights, duties, some sort of political participation and frequent interactions with each other. Yet, urbanization can also present many challenges that further disenfranchise and marginalize residents. As the most urbanized region in the world, Latin American cities highlight both of these sceneries. Industrialization and neoliberal economic policies led to the continent s rapid urbanization, introducing large developments but also deeply segregated urban centers, characterised by strong tensions between their formal and informal dimensions. Latin American leaders efforts to tackle this issue have presented both setbacks and opportunities to transform the city into a more integrated space, and set the path to recognize every dwellers right to the city: to be in it, to enjoy it, and to build it. Social differentiation and separation have been frequent characteristics of Latin American cities, in both physical, psychological and cultural terms. As Teresa Caldeira indicates in City of Walls, the pattern of segregation in Latin America traditionally obeyed the center periphery model where the middle and upper classes lived in legalized neighborhood in the center of the cities, while the poor inhabited the mostly illegal precarious fringe. • 34. Portrait Of The Artist As A Young Man Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man is an excellent novel, written by James Joyce, about the life of Stephen Dedalus and how he overcame the barriers of his family and his religion to pursue his life as a writer. Drawing on details based on his own early life, Joyce provides us with insight into how his own imagination worked (Gose, 267). Extensive use of stream of consciousness, which represent the character s inner thoughts and perceptions, and like human thoughts jumping from one thought to the next, oftentimes make Portrait a hard reading. This is however intentional as Joyce wants his readers to be obliged to re create his own space in the inner universe of the text, to participate in a sort of intransitive discourse, one that bears no fixed meaning in relation to external reality which tends, in fact, to destroy referentiality and with it, the readers sense of balance (Sabatini, 95). Joyce wants his readers to experience Stephen s inner thoughts starting from a young age, and to see the world from his perspective. She, similar to Odysseus, must save her country from invaders, The Huns for Mulan and the suitors for Odysseus. Both protagonists face many trials that test their loyalty and honor. And both prevail, becoming great, respected leaders of their people. Honor as well as loyalty are significant characteristics of a respected person. The Odyssey, written by Homer in the eighth century BCE, is a common story with multiple retellings that focuses on the journey of Odysseus and his son Telemachus. Odysseus is a war hero of the Trojan War, and the tale focuses on the conflicts he faces while journeying home. In this story, Odysseus shows how honor and loyalty play a pivotal role in defining the success of a leader, and how the absence of these traits leads to anarchy and turmoil within a ruler s domain. The necessity of honor and loyalty in a ruler are seen during the Odysseus absence in his kingdom of Ithaka. During the 16th year that Odysseus is missing, suitors come from all over the land to win the hand of Odysseus wife, Penelope, presuming Odysseus is dead. There are five stages in the theory, the first being the Orientation stage, which usually means small talk, and sticking to conversational norms. The Exploratory stage is when two friends reveal their opinions on things such as politics, music, and education, but most relationships do not exceed this stage. The Affective stage is when two people get to know more about each other s personal experiences. Things like inside jokes, and intimate conversations are what encompass the Affective stage. The Stable stage in a relationship is when individuals share their deepest thoughts, morals, ideas, and experiences. Stable relationships are very open, honest, and aim to benefit each person. The last stage, which is optional, is the De penetration stage, which is when the relationships drawbacks exceed the benefits, which results in the end of the relationship. In her article, Yea Wen describes how relationships become more gratifying as the stages described in the Social Penetration Theory go on. Additionally, the foundation of social penetration theory lies in the assumption that making the self known or accessible to others through self disclosure is intrinsically gratifying, and this, in turn, leads to the development of positive feelings for the others (Yea Wen 81). The final act of the war was the deportation of the Saxons and granting their land to close by Slavic community. On the other hand, the Einhard came up with a different instigation of the war. He did not relate it to Christianity as strongly as Barbero did. His view of the cause of the war was because the peace between the people was not sustaining. This eventually led to the Franks refusing to make any comebacks, but instead going to war with the Saxons. This war was thought to be a thirty three year war with the advantage for the Franks. However, Einhard does state that the war was based on a religious disagreement, but only slightly. The Saxons were conquered many times over the years ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
