The New Zealand Flag Debate Essay
The New Zealand Flag debate
(New Zealand Government, 2015, para. 1). Prime Minister John Key, the main advocate for change,
officially launched such discussion last year in a public address he gave at Victoria s University in
Wellington. One of the main points presented in Key s (2014) speech were his views on how he
believes Moreover Key (2014) also argued (para. 88). So far the Prime Ministers proposal failed to
inspire the public. On the contrary, it has produced a substantial amount of controversy. The main
arguments seem to revolt around the issues of cost, process, national symbol, history and change. This
paper will look more closely into each of these aforementioned public differences and close with my
own view concerning this debate.
To date the majority of the Countries that were once part of the British Empire, have discarded the
Union flag symbol from their flag designs (Silver Fern Flag, 2015, para. 1). For example, in 1965
Canada dropped the Union Jack in favour of the more distinctive maple leaf. According to Champion
(2010) Canada s public opinion was similar to that of current NZ citizens before the vote took place.
He states that (p. 180). Nonetheless, further down the road public opinion changed and Canadians
welcomed a new flag. Another past British colony South Africa, changed its flag in 1994 proclaiming
the new rainbow nation (Bornman, 2006). In 2015 New Zealand and Fiji look to become the next two

Buddhism Is An Indispensable Element Of Chinese And...
Buddhism has been the main religion of china for several thousands of years. In fact, Buddhism is an
indispensable element of Chinese philosophy and literature. As we all know, Buddhism originated in
India and first spread to China around 100BC. Nevertheless, (Mahayana) Buddhism in China
separated itself from the mainstream Buddhism and created a new form of Bodhisattva precept instead
of following the Indian Vinaya precept. In fact , the distinct Chinese history and culture played
significant roles in the development and formation of Mahayana Buddhism . The change of Chinese
society also had a great impact on the doctrine and status of Mahayana Buddhism. In this paper, I will
illustrate the reason why Buddhism was widely accepted by China as an alien religion , analyze how
the indigenous philosophy such as Taoism and Confucianism affected the Mahayana concept and find
the relationship between Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese Imperialism. Chinese has always been a
confident nation most of the time. As they believe that China is the Celestial Empire of the world,
Chinese rulers and scholars are reluctant to accept heterodox knowledge, especially religion. For
hundreds of years, Confucianism had been the essence of Chinese Philosophy. However, By the
middle of the second century. A.D, the great Han Empire was on the edge of disintegration. The upper
level of Han socio political order was riven by conflict and the elite was frustrated by uncertainty . On

Literary Analysis Of To Homer By John Keats
Homer had a way of illustrating the natural world in exquisite detail. To him, the irregular shapes and
bold colors that surrounded him told stories only he could fathom. No one could have guessed that
Homer was blind. Every reader makes a choice to either read the top layer of his work and visualize
what their brain desires, or absorb the creativity and stand in the middle of his flamboyant visions, not
realizing that they have been changed forever. John Keats expresses how Homer s writing had a way
of healing his own ignorance, and changing his life from the moment he read it. Keats writes about
how he was most definitely not the same person he was before his exposure to Homer. The poem, To
Homer by John Keats explicates the idea that although Homer was physically blind, he enabled a man
blind with ignorance (Keats), to see the world through his literature.
The first part of the poem explains Keats ignorance before reading, as well as the greek gods revealing
elements of sky, sea, and land to Homer and then Keats. The first few lines express how Keats was
ignorant because of him not understanding Homer s writing. Later he explains how he has heard of
Homer, and how Homer wants to see, dolphin coral in deep seas. The importance of mentioning coral
here is that coral is known for its bright colors and funky shapes, something one can only witness with
their eyes, which Homer wishes he was able to. Then, Keats blatantly mentions how Homer is blind,
but then says, the

Italian Neorealism Genre
During World War II many films in Italy the Italian community created a new type of genre for that
specific decade called Italian Neorealism. The Neorealism genre was a style of film characterized by
stories done by the poor and working class. These movies were typically filmed on location meaning
not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The films themselves
contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were about social issues and
war. Director Roberto Rossellini s created a movie during the Neorealist time called Rome Open City
which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last
couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. The
film was made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post war Italian economy. It
was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that would show an even greater
impact to this story.
Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I ve never watched a
foreign movie before and it was something different to see especially back in 1945 when the war was
going on. For me it s incredible how this movie did so well during a time of tragedy and yet movies
here not in the US can t even get a decent rating. I did on the other hand have a bit of a hard time
following the movie because the lyrics that were given to the movie in english weren t that amazing I
feel like if I spoke Italian or if it was remastered into a english film then i d love it even more. The
film was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the daily lives of the resistance fighters
living in Rome. Francesco works for a communist newspaper, he also helps a group of militant anti
Nazi fighters, led by his friend Giorgio. Francesco s fiancée, the Pina is involved in the struggle as
well she helps create riots against the shops that control food rations and keep the people of the city
from getting enough to eat. One of the major things I loved about this film was how Rossellini
balances the film s darker moments with surprising humorous touches, especially when using the
priest Don Pietro. The Part that

My Most Thankful Of My Life
Out of all the many blessing I am lucky to have I have to say that one of the blessings I am most
grateful are the many amazing people in my life. The people and pets that I am most grateful for are
my loving puppies, my crazy friends, and my supportive family I love them all so. The support they
give, the love that will neverend, and the endless laughs you share with your pets, friends, and family.
My companions for life, my best friends I will never lose, the friends who will comfort me whenever
that s my dogs. What could I love more than Calvin and Willie my best friends I could never live
without my two baby boys. I m am thankful for their never ending love, their never ending support,
and of course their adorable little faces I wake up to every single morning. Being a dog owner is like
being a mom at times with your never ending love for them and some of their clueless actions. I
always have a great time walking just around the block with my dogs or telling them about my day
before I drift asleep, saying what I did in elective or what we talked about in lunch. If they are coming
up to me just to let them out or if they want some love or affection because they didn t get any dinner
scraps I will always love them and I will always be thankful for my two big bundles of joy. In
summation, they will always be there for me and that is why I am so grateful for my adorable baby
boys.

Ways of the World Second Edition Chapter 7 Questions
Jonathon Martin Period 1 Chapter 8 Questions 1. Long distance commerce acted as a motor of change
in pre modern world history by altering consumption and daily life. Essential food and useful tools
such as salt were traded from the Sahara desert all the way to West Africa and salt was used as a food
preserver. Some incenses essential to religious ceremonies were traded across the world because there
was a huge demand for them. Trade diminished economic self sufficiency by creating a reliance on
traded goods and encouraged people to specialize and trade a particular skill. Trade motivated the
creation of a state due to the wealth accumulated from controlling and taxing trade. Trade posed the
problem of if the government or private ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Middle Eastern gold and silver purchased pepper, textiles, and gemstones in India. Merchants from the
Arab Empire established communities from East Africa to the China coast. Opportunities for trade led
to the production of sugar and dates in Mesopotamia and stimulated a slave trade from East Africa to
provide labor for the growing and refining of these products. Widespread conversion to Islam among
traders in the Indian Ocean underpinned an international maritime culture and also helped to facilitate
commercial transactions. 8. Indian influence registered in Southeast Asia by causing political change.
Its rulers became more ambitious due to the wealth accrued and tried to construct larger more centrally
governed cities and states. Local people were attracted to foreign religious ideas like Confucianism or
Buddhism. The inland states of Southeast Asia were more reliant on domestically preduced rice
particiaped in international trade and many of them flourished. Trade also spread Indian culture across
Southeast Asia. Indian alphabets were used to write numbers and Indian artistic forms provided
models for Southeastern sculptures. Southeast Asia also adopted the Indian philosophy of rulers being
good kings and having good morals. Rulers

The Benefits Of Live Kidney Transplants
During my first clinical rotation I was assigned a patient who, down to his last kidney, was living with
end stage renal disease. I noticed quickly that this man, one of ethnical minority, relied on his family
members to give him information and advice pertaining to his treatment, as he himself seemed
ignorant to his own medical problems. I found his case fascinating, as he not only had one kidney, but
he was also suffering many other debilitating medical crisis , all brought on by his failing renal
system. I distinctly remember wondering why transplantation was not being discussed, or if it was
even an option for him. My interest led me to discovering a disproportionate disparity among those
who receive live donor kidney transplants, referred to as LDKT, in the United States.
It is first important to understand that live kidney transplants have many benefits when compared to
deceased donor transplants. Among these benefits include prolonged survival rates of up to 18 years.
Also, living donor kidneys begin functioning almost immediately after surgery, and, lastly, there is the
added benefit of bypassing a waiting list, limiting time spent, if any, on dialysis (Mysel, 2016).
Interestingly, the majority of recipients of LDKT transplants in the United States are white. In
juxtaposition, renal disease is actually more prominent in minorities such as African Americans and
Hispanics. End Stage Renal Disease has an incidence rate three times higher in African Americans

Sickle Cell Anemia
Case:
Doctor informed complete studies of a 9 year old child with sickle cell anemia. Her main complaints
were cough, vague pains in legs (joints), night sweats, abdominal pain, less hunger, and increasing
weakness. In a series of knowing experiments that involved taking venous blood from the arm under
different conditions, the doctor showed a connection between oxygen tension and sickling of the red

Introduction:
Anemia is a disorder of blood that causes a decrease in red blood cells. Sickle Cell anemia is a type of
Anemia. The abnormal gene that is passed down from each parent makes a condition in which, there
aren t sufficient healthy RBC to carry passable oxygen throughout your body. Sickle cells are
hemispherical shaped that chunks the blood flow in vessels that can cause severe pain. In addition to
red blood cells being sickled shaped, WebMD explains that the red blood cells of individuals with
Sickle Cell anemia only last about twenty days in comparison to the one hundred twenty days that a
normal red blood cell lasts. This contributes to the tired and weak feeling related with the anemia
characteristic of Sickle Cell Anemia, thus creating the person look weak and washed out according to

In most cases, your hair is cut around shoulder length, either a little above, or slightly below. The idea
is to create a significant amount of depth to the appearance of your hair, something that the hair stylist
will do after the initial cut is made.
Popularity of Medium Length Layered Haircuts
One of the primary reasons that this type of haircut is so popular with women is because it s easy to
maintain. Women with long hair may have to spend several hours washing their hair, drying it, and
getting it to a state of perfection. Although longer hair might provide a woman with more flair and
possibilities, long hair is more difficult to manage, and therefore medium length haircuts can
sometimes be preferable.
Women that cut their hair short might risk having a less feminine appearance. You need to have the
right facial shape in order to sport a shorter hairdo. The typical pixie cut that some women prefer
usually looks better with a more rounded face. However, in the end, it really comes down to how
much work you want to put into your hair. The medium length layered hairdo, therefore, is a happy
medium for those that want to have more style options, yet will have less hair to manage on a daily

Taylorism And The Degradation Of Work
This paper will determine to what extent Taylorism has led to the degradation of work, and thus the
extent to which the question statement is true. In terms of key phrases, this essay focuses on
degradation of work, knowledge workers and Taylorism. When this paper refers to degradation of
work it refers to the reduction in technical input by labour through the process of scientific
management as defined by Spencer, (2000). Additionally, when this paper mentions knowledge
workers it defines them as workers who perform non routine tasks after training and education (Paton,
2012). Furthermore, when this essay mentions Taylorism it refers to the core characteristics of
scientific management: division of labour and reducing the autonomy of workers, as defined in the
work of Paton, (2012). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This essay will determine the extent to which the statement is true, by analysing the supporting and
undermining arguments. The supporting arguments are first analysed, through evaluating the
replacement of unskilled labour by capital and the breakdown of complex processes. Then the counter
arguments are considered, by focusing on the development of the knowledge economy and the impact
of specialisation on knowledge workers. This essay will conclude that Taylorism hasn t led to the
degradation of work to a full extent as most importantly it has the opposite effect on knowledge
workers by upskilling their occupations, through improving their depth of knowledge. However,
Taylorism still degrades a significant amount of work in the economy, leading to polarisation. Thus,
the statement is only true to a partial

Link between Verbal Fluency and Phonological Short-Term...
Each time a bilingual speaks its brain functions in slightly different ways than that of a monolingual s.
Bilinguals deal with constant dual language activation as they are able to switch between two
sometimes very different languages. The ability to use one language without intrusions from the other
language is seen as an important topic of study (Van Assche, Duyck, and Gollan, 2013). However, one
of the costs of being bilingual is the reduced exposure to each language. Studies show that both
sequential and simultaneous bilinguals score lower on vocabulary measures than monolinguals
(Rosselli et al., 200 as cited in Kaushankaya, Blumenfeld and Marian, 2011). Strong evidence for
weakened vocabulary performance in bilinguals comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Lexical representations are classified for language membership after receiving syntactic properties
(lemmas). This enables the bilingual person to produce language in a selective manner. Furthermore,
bilinguals use task schemas and a Supervisory Attentional System to create, retrieve and, if necessary
to adapt these task schemas. Because bilinguals cannot completely turn off one language the letter
version of the verbal fluency task used in the present study activates twice as many lexical
representations in bilinguals than in monolinguals. This will lead to a greater degree of competition
for activation across languages hence the effect of subject type (Van Assche et al., 2013). In the
present research bilinguals and monolinguals verbal fluency is tested using a classic letter fluency
task. According to the literature bilinguals have a disadvantage in Vocabulary acquisition that we
expect to see manifest in their Verbal Fluency Task scores. Kaushankaya et al. (2011) were interested
in the link between phonological short term memory and vocabulary development in children and
word learning in adults that has been found in previous research (Gathercole and Adams, 1993,1994;
Service and Martin, 1997). For example, adults nonword repetition performance predicted their ability
to learn novel words in a foreign language (Speciale, Ellis and Bywater, 2004 as cited in Kaushankaya
et al.). Similarly, Rosen and Engle (1997) found

American Transportation Infrastructure Essay
American transportation Infrastructure has taken a toll over the past decade. This is due to the lack of
proper maintenance. These infrastructure are in serious disorder and they continue to deteriorate and
age across the country. The upkeep of roads and bridges is a struggle in term of monetary availability
and various government agencies at all level are having a hard time meeting up with the budget

as stated by the federal National Surface Transportation Infrastructure Financing Commission.
The infrastructure area in this great nation is deprecating when compared to the rest of the developed
countries. America went from having the best modernized roadways and highways in the mid 1900s to
an obsolete infrastructure at present. The U.S globally ranks 16th in quality of infrastructures moving

Dyslexia Causes
The exact causes of dyslexia are still not completely clear, but anatomical and brain imagery studies
show differences in the way the brain of a person with dyslexia develops and functions. Moreover,
most people with dyslexia have been found to have problems with identifying the separate speech
sounds within a word and/or learning how letters represent those sounds, a key factor in their reading
difficulties. Dyslexia is not due to either lack of intelligence or desire to learn; with appropriate
teaching methods, students with dyslexia can learn successfully.
Kids with dyslexia experience issues in figuring out how to peruse notwithstanding conventional

Even though smokers do choose to smoke, the size to which these choices can validate the effects of
their own wellness. An analysis of the empirical literature reveals a diversity of components such as
targeted advertising, unequal dissemination of information about the health hazards of smoking and
inequalities in smoking norms that make the disadvantaged more likely to become smokers and less
potential to stop successfully. The paper then considers a range of common tobacco control policies
from the perspective of social justice. The social justice perspective developed here poses a challenge
for policy makers: on the one hand, social justice concerns strengthen the case for tobacco control
policies because such policies disproportionately benefit the wellness of the disadvantaged. At the
same time, all the same, we must be especially tender to any harms associated with such policies
because such burdens, too, will come down largely on the disadvantaged. Looking at other researches,
this research didn t cover a wide region in the sultanate. It hardly hid a small sample in the MTC. The
results weren t really accurate. It didn t show any threatening results that we should be mindful of. In

Case Study on the California High Speed Rail System Essay
A Case Study on the California High Speed Rail System (CAHSR) Is It Feasible? By Hardeep
Ramesh, MS ISE Engineering Economics (ISE 460) University of Southern California December 3,
2010 Abstract: California High Speed Rail (CHSR) system is a mega project planned by the California
High Speed Rail Authority (CA HSRA), connecting the major metropolitan areas of California. The
project finalized in mid 2000, is estimated to be one of the most expensive of its kind. It is in the lines
of the high speed rail systems existing in France, Japan and China. The cost of the total project, which
will cover around 800 miles, is estimated to be around $45 billion as of 2008. At this time of economic
instability and no proper ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The capital and operating maintenance costs are much easily determined using the data available from
the data from CA HSRA. Sources of benefits: 1. Intercity passenger revenue; 2. Benefits to both
intercity and urban high speed train passengers (net of fares paid); 3. Reduction of airside delay for air
passengers; 4. Reduction in aircraft operating costs; 5. Reduction of highway delay for both intercity
and urban auto trips; and 6. Reduction of accident and air pollution costs from intercity and urban auto
trips. This analysis is done assuming the benefits accrued in the year 2050. The costs are evaluated
from the year 2011 the proposed time of starting the project, while the benefits are calculated from the
year 2020 the expected time of launching the project. The estimated streams of benefits and costs
occurring each year between 2011 and 2050 were discounted to their present value and summarized to
calculate the benefit cost ratio. The discount rate is a means of calculating a value now of benefits that
occur in the future. The discount rate recognizes the time value of money. A four percent real discount
rate is used in the calculations. However, the high speed train project would be economically feasible
even under the higher discount rates used by some public agencies and economists. The Internal Rate
of Return (IRR) is an evaluation measure that is

Summary Of My Ancestors Were Rogues And Murders
My Ancestors were Rogues and Murders is a documentary depicting Newfoundlanders view on the
seal hunt; specifical residence of the Twillingate community. The argument being made is that the seal
hunt is not barbaric and evil as it has been depicted in the media. This is shown through personal
accounts made the sealers and residence of the Twillingate community. The residence explain the
history of the seal hunt being crucial to their survival in early years after immigrating to the island as
well as surviving economically today. A counter view of sealing is shown through the sealer s
confrontation with the International Fund for Animal Welfare(IFAW) who are opposed to the practice
of sealing. The International Fund for Animal welfare was discussed in the documentary as they have
tried to shine a negative light on the practicing of sealing. Their aim was to show the sealers as
oppressing the seals and asserting their dominance over a weaker species. Which raises the idea of
what socially and culture is defined as okay to be used as food and what is not. The sealers made it
known that the seal are used as a source of food and that they are not just clubbing seals for sport.
During the documentary it said that the seals were killed in a manner no different that of which you
would see in a slaughter house. So why can cows, pigs and chickens be slaughtered to eat but not
seals? The many of the people of Twillingate and other surrounding communities were raised around

Christianity are really familiar, but what keeps them separated from each other is that their deity gives

The First Nation and Christianity believe the universe was created by these supernatural Gods that has
gave Earth life. The Anishinaabe believe that they had a creator, Gzhwe Mnidoo. This deity was
created by a thought from the darkness and emptiness. How Gzhwe Mnidoo made the universe is that
one thought scattered across the darkness and made the sky . Gzhwe Mnidoo did not create Earth, but
gave Earth light so it would not be dark forever. As Gzhwe Mnidoo was creating the universe, Gzhwe
Mnidoo called the birds to plant seeds that was given the creative energy from Gzhwe Mnidoo and
made Earth beautiful. A human being was created last for it to reflection on Gzhwe Mnidoo creation.
As for God, many Christians believe that God was already there before the world was created. Also
God created Earth on the first day and divided light from the darkness. On the second day God had
made earth seed itself to grow many trees and fruits. As the days go by on day five, he has created man

cultures have a god or a creator that gave human beings life and trust to humanities to control over

By ilyssa ye Las Papas is the story about a single man with a child. The story starts in the kitchen

from his son. Having heard this he suddenly recalls similar event that had happened when he was
fifteen and disapproved his father s cooking by calling it too spicy . At the same moment peeling and

The potato also reminds him of his mother s stories, and the different in cultures between America and
Peru. Are potatoes harvested at night in the moonlight? He was surprised how little he knew about
something that came from his own country. As he thought about it, he believed harvest wasn t even the
correct term. Gathering? Digging? What do you call this harvest from under the earth? (Pg 313,
Ortega) The father is trying to remember how potatoes are harvested, and it surprised him that how
little he actually knew about them. It shows that the lost of his old culture when he lives in Peru and
he is a bite guilty and astonish that he doesn t know this simply and base facts about his culture.
Boiled, baked, fried, or stewed: the ways of cooking potatoes were a long story in themselves. He
remembered what his mother had told him as a child: at harvest time, the largest potatoes would be
roasted for everybody, and, in the fire, they would open up just like flowers. The potatoes were
probably the one of the lost varieties, the kind that turned into flowers in the flames. (Pg 313,
Ortega)The culture of Peru is reflected through the symbol potato. The father think about the time
when he was a child and his mother told him stories about his culture and how different ways the
potatoes were cooked in the past. So when the father cooks the potato it reminds him of the culture of

The Importance Of Food In My Life And My Family Life
Food it is something that we need to survive, it is essential for us as a species to grow and be healthy.
Some people see food as something that they need to live, but some people see it as something more
than something that we need to do. I am person who loves food. Food has been a huge part of my life
and my family life. Food is not just something that tastes good, it gives me memories of when me and
my dad when to go get ice cream or what we were eating for Thanksgiving. I am going to be talking
about food and how it affects me in my life. First I am going to talk about how I feel about food and
how important it is for me. Then I will discuss what role food plays in my life and what food I eat.
Food is ingrained in are daily culture, we see food everywhere on billboards on TV we even see it on
are phones. I believe that food is such a daily occurrence in our life that we forget how much we
actually eat and see it and talk about it. I personally love to eat food. Eating food is one of those
experiences that cannot mimic by doing something else. I consume all sorts of food from fast food to
high end restaurants. Food it isn t just the physical object, every single dish of food has a story behind
that dish. When I was a kid my mother and I went to Lowe s to get a birthday present for my dad. As I
walked into the store I thought we were getting him a new tool. But I ended up finding out we got him
this grilled call an Weber. When it came time for birthday he opened it and immediately set up. He put
charcoal on the bottom of the Weber on the sides and then put lighter fluid on the charcoal and lit it on
fire. Then he waited till the charcoal started the smolder and put mesquite wood chips on the charcoal
creating this smoke that smelled amazing. Then the best part he laid a full rack of season ribs, as he
laid it on the grill you could hear the meat simmer and start to smell the meat cooking. After waiting
for seems like an eternity I finally got to partake of the ribs. This was the first time I ever ate ribs, it
was something I never tasted before my life it was so good. This is just one story out of hundreds of
mine that involves food. Everyone has a story about food. Now sadly

Essay on Ethnic Literature
The Power in a Name The term ethnic when in conjunction with the word literature in the academic
discourse community of students, often brings out mixed feelings of excitement and dread. On the one
hand, students understand that they will be getting away from the canonical American literature which
can equal boring in their eyes; on the other hand, students interpret the term ethnic literature to mean
distinctive which can equal confusing or ambiguous and perhaps at times not relatable because it is
outside their scope of experiences. Perhaps before jumping into why it matters, the term ethnic
literature should be defined first and because I am still learning how to interpret this term myself, I

At this deeper level I am trying to get at, I find John M. Reilly s article Criticism of Ethnic Literature:
Seeing the Whole Story helpful in acquiring this. He states that, the assertion of ethnicity in literature
can be made only through a procedure by which the writer resolves formal problems... what moves
from recognition of identity to creation of a strategy for handling reality still is not literature until the
individual author sustains her or his ethnic identity through a sequence of formal choices (4). I am
interpreting this to mean that as a reader of this literature, I should see and feel throughout the story
(perhaps subtlety) that in some way, the characters mindset (and perhaps actions) in the story differ
from my own specifically because of the culture they have grown up in in, which has shaped that
character s thinking. There are thoughts and feelings ideas, I don t understand without further
explanation from the author, which is sometimes provided, and sometimes not. An example of this is
in Brando Skyhorse s novel The Madonnas of Echo Park, I find myself wondering what the
significance of the jacaranda trees mentioned in different parts of the book. Looking up what they are,
it becomes apparent to me as jacaranda trees are native to

However, these discussions mostly are limited within a bunch of users, who read articles from Yahoo

opinions. (Sunstein, 2001, p. 65), to some extend, this also tells why rational deliberation cannot fully
promise the democracy on the Internet. Rasmussen (2008,p.9) also pointed out that, debate often need
to share moral values, but it is hard in an increasingly differentiate Internet world. Internet users from
around the world have different cultural backgrounds and values, it is difficult to adhere a set of
standardized requirements and propose a single solution for the same problem. In summary , we can
find Habermas s deliberative mode does not apply to multi value society or virtual network space, as it
put too much emphasis on communicative rationality and consensus. Take the view from the actual
operation of the network, due to site ownership, network management system, executive power, the
consumer ability to communicate and their use of habits and many other issues are raised, such as: the
vicious competition among interest groups, online political colonization, hasty and irresponsible
online speech, these seems unable to support the network considered as deliberative public sphere.

Spread Of Violence
How Society Should Protect Itself Against Violence.
There are many theoretical ways in which society can protect itself against violence, ranging from
more violence to kindness. But, the best way a society can protect itself from violence is by limiting
the spread of violence. There are multiple ways to limit or stop the spread of violence. One way is to
not be hostile to violent people, stopping the amount of violence. A second is to limit the amount of
people doing a violent act. Lastly, to remove the original source of violence. By stopping or
decreasing the spread of violence, a society can be protected. The first way to limit violence is through

Contagious Disease. In his talk, he discusses the idea that violence is something that can be passed on

person in turn, violent. He suggests that the way to limit this spread of violence is to first, remove the
person who began the violence. In removing that person, they are no longer spreading around
violence. Secondly, prevent the spread further by helping those who were exposed to violence to not
turn to violence themselves. Lastly, he claims that shifting the group norms from violence to
something not aggressive will result in a decrease in violence. According to Dr. Gary Slutkin, violence

Social, Sociology, And Sociology
Social work is centred on people, of all ages, races and class backgrounds to try to make their lives
better. Social workers collaborate with individuals and families to improve outcomes and quality of
life. It is an intense and responsible job and an employee s actions will have consequences, whether
they are good or bad.
Social workers ensure the welfare of vulnerable groups or individuals who need that extra support.
Social work as a subject area includes elements of psychology, law and sociology.
Social policy is the study of various areas of policy, within political or governmental setting, and is
concerned with everything from the welfare state, to social services. Social policy is an academic
study of theory, rather than current policies and draws from psychology, sociology, philosophy, and
economics.
What A Levels do I need?
Each university will ask for varying grades and tariff points from their prospective candidates,
therefore students are advised to check with their chosen institutions and degree programmes to ensure
they understand what they need to obtain to gain admission.
What are my study options?
Social work degree programmes mix vocational training with academic learning, and the majority of
courses will be three years in length. Some universities ask students to complete placement days,
where they have to complete a certain number as part as their assessment. Most individuals will be

Sustainable development, a new way of urbanization
Introduction
Urbanization, which is becoming a buzzword during the last few decades, is enlarging at a booming
speed. It is predicted that 93 percents urban growth will occur to the year 2020, in the developing
world (Elliot J.A, 1999). Generally speaking, more than half of the people around the world have been
moved to cities, which led to a series of matters connected with people s life that changed in a
dramatical way. In this period, sustainable development, another buzzword during the past few years,

Meanwhile, it also should popularize the green living ideas in public. Every year, a large amount of
paper and disposable chopsticks are produced. Since 2006, the annual consumption of chopsticks in
Taiwan was around 4.8 billion pairs which equals to about 3 million of cut down bamboo plants (Shih,
Y. F., Huang, C. C., Chen, P. W,2010). Thus, by limiting the use of disposable chopsticks and
advocating using both side of papers in government and companies, it can effectively reduce the use
per day and as a result, the demand of timber will go down, which can slow down desertification.
Significantly, desertification also cause soil erosion, which means soil surface is worn by wind and
water. Desertification makes soil easy to erode by water or wind, as soil is exposed and soil structure
is instable without forest. LaI R(2003) says that Land area globally affected by erosion is 1094 million
ha (Mha) by water erosion, of which 751 Mha is severely affected, and 549 Mha by wind erosion, of
which 296 Mha is severely affected. To control soil erosion, an obvious way is virescence, enlarging
forest cover, which can protect the soil far from exposing to strong wind. Also, the roots of plants
under ground play a role as a framework, as they are obstructions to soil movement,

Egyptian Mummification And The Afterlife
Egyptian Mummification and the Afterlife The study of humans is commonly known as anthropology.
One major topic of humankind that anthropologists study is culture. Culture is described as the beliefs,
customs, arts, etc. of a particular society, group, place, or time. Culture is different among every group
of people and there are many different customs and behaviors involved in various cultures. It s easy
for people to be egocentric, or believe that their culture is superior to all other cultures. It can be
difficult for people to accept different behaviors and traditions from other cultures, especially when
they don t have first hand experience with these strange behaviors. For example, in North America,

When someone passed away, the body was taken to the embalmers by the relatives, who then chose
the method and quality of mummification. The best and most expensive methods were used on the
wealthy, but there were cheaper alternatives for the poor. Every Egyptian was entitled to
mummification, with the exception of some criminals. The best and most costly form of
mummification was a very lengthy and extensive process. This lengthy process took more than
seventy days to complete. The first step was to draw out the brain through the nostrils. A long, slightly
hooked tool was introduced into the brain through the nose, swirled around to liquefy the brain. The
head was then tipped forward and all contents of the skull poured out, again through the nose. The
next step was to remove the contents of the abdomen. The stomach, liver, lungs and intestines were all
removed. The heart always remained because the Egyptians believed that the heart was the most
important organ in the body and that the soul resided in the heart. After the organs were removed, they
were dried out and placed in canopic jars. Canopic jars are covered urns used in ancient Egyptian
burials to hold the entrails from an embalmed body. Four canopic jars were used for each mummy and
in each jar a different organ was placed inside. For example, the liver, intestines, lungs and stomach
would all be placed in separate canopic jars. Before the stomach was placed in a canopic jar, it was
filled with pure myrrh, cassia and other spices and sewn back together again. Once the organs were
removed from the body, the interior of the corpse was cleansed with palm wine and spices in order to
dry the body and protect it from decaying. After the body was filled with palm wine and spices, it was

Circumstance In I Love Lucy
Sitcoms have made a huge commitment to our way of life s demeanor. It is a state of mind in view of

I Love Lucy made situation comedy the mainstay of prime time television. Situation comedy is

The Problem Of Narcotics Anonymous
Everyone has an addiction, whether it s an addiction to a drug or just needing your phone at all times.
Growing up I saw AA meetings portrayed in movies and on tv shows, and I thought AA was the only
recovery group out there. To my surprise AA isn t the only group out there for addicts. I chose NA
because a few people I know are sober or in recovery, and I felt it was important to know about the
culture. Learning about Narcotics Anonymous was almost like a culture shock in itself to me because I
had no idea it existed. When you don t have a problem you don t often think about these groups
existence and what goes on. In my essay I will be discussing the organization, purpose, beliefs, values,
and norms of Narcotics Anonymous. As well as the stereotypes I had before I emerged myself into this
culture. When I first chose Narcotics Anonymous I immediately went to a friend of mine who is 5
years sober to figure out which meetings I should go to and where. She offered for me to tag along to
a few of her meetings. Before I went to the first meeting I had certain stereotypes on what a meeting
would be like and what kind of people would be there. I remember watching movies when I was
younger and seeing a portrait of AA meetings. I thought when I walked in it would be a bunch of
criminals, or crazy people. Some of the stereotypes I experienced were associated with physical
appearance. Some aspects of a person s physical appearance, such as the actual body characteristics,

American Workers Are More Beneficial And Cost Efficient...
Many American workers are at risk of losing their jobs to man made machinery. One author, Adam
Davidson, wrote Making It in America, and he argues that American workers are more beneficial and
cost efficient than machinery. He uses his interview with Standard Motor Products employee, Maddie
Parlier, to build his argument. Maddie is a low educated worker who was forced to take the job at
SMP when she became pregnant her senior year of high school. Though she was quick and effective
working the laser welding machine, the unskilled job increased her chance of being replaced by a
machine. Many manufacturing companies have found machines more efficient, but don t realize the
effect on American workers. Davidson builds his credibility with logical facts and statistics, and
displaying emotional appeals to influence the audience; however, by the end of his article, his ability
to influence his readers with his supporting facts strengthens his argument. Throughout Making It in
America, Davidson uses his personal experiences to strengthen his credibility and support his
argument. The author s sources come from personal interactions with the Standard Motor Products
Company, including interviews with Maddie Parlier, Luke Hutchins (skilled machinists at SMP), and
manager Tony Scalzitti. Tony comes to explain that, Maddie is cheaper than a machine, (Davidson
338). The manager tells us that low skilled workers are capable of being trained in a short amount of
time, while

The Bacchae Symbolism
Euripides The Bacchae is a play that uses contrasting places to represent opposing forces or ideas.
Specifically, Euripides uses the city of Thebes to represent the West and he uses the surrounding
wilderness to represent the East. The West is associated with the ideas of rationality, conformity, and
appearance while the East is associated with the ideas of irrationality, nonconformity, and reality. The
West, Thebes, and Pentheus stand in stark contrast to the East, wilderness, and Dionysus. The West
symbolizes masculinity, Greek culture, and city life. In the West lies Thebes, a city that holds strict
laws and ways of thinking; particularly laws restraining women to play a certain roll and keep them
from acting out. It is a city that holds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While the West holds values such as conformity and civilization, the East represents the
nonconformity and irrationality. The East symbolizes freedom from civilization and strict laws such as
those set in the city of Thebes. It symbolizes the wilderness and it s liberation of society s standards.
Along with the freedom from responsibility, the wilderness also symbolizes reality. An example of the
freedom brought by the wilderness is when the women of Thebes flee to the woods to celebrate the
gifts of the earth of wine, honey, and milk, given by Dionysus. By doing this, they are defying the
laws and order of Pentheus. Dionysus is the personification of the ideals in the East. He represents the
liberation and irrationality that comes with the wilderness surrounding the city of Thebes. He is the
missing piece from Pentheus order and control that is needed to obtain balance. The conflict caused by
the characters Pentheus and Dionysus and the idea s of conformity and liberation are central to the
way The Bacchae plays out. It is the conflict between these two aspects that helps to reveal the theme
that for there to be balance, there must be freedom where there is order. Pentheus hamartia is his lack
of understanding of the balance needed, or the golden mean. Pentheus lacks perception as to how his
over orderly ways are what causes the disruption of Dionysus wild self to be so extreme and
incidentally leading to Pentheus

The Change Of A Change Leader
I believe that the change that is to occur has a large part on the strategies that a change leader must use
to build employee commitment and buy in. According to Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) Getting
people to buy in may depend upon what it is that they are buying into: whether they perceive it as
favorable to them and whether the change had been adequately justified to them (p.302). If it was a
small change, it doesn t take much to get people to buy in, but if it is a large change it will take some
work. The first strategy that I would use as a change leader to communicate a change is to discuss the
need for the change. I believe that if people can see why the process needs to changed, it will open
them up to the possibility of a change. I have seen a lot of process done wrong or a slow way because
it was how it has always been done in that organization. If someone would have come into that
organization and told them that the amount of time they were wasting and showed them the new way,
I think the organization would buy in. The second strategy that I would use for communicating the
change is to provide everyone with accurate information on the change, it would include how the
change is going to happen and how it will affect everyone. I will only send out information that I feel
they need to know so I do not overload them. Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) state information
overload is even more problematic in companies where participants are already in receipt of a

India has also become an export hub for many global players who are demanding higher specification
engines and engine oils to meet more stringent international specifications. It is expected that these
factors will result in a demand for higher quality lubricants, leading the industry towards wider
acceptance of synthetic lubricants.
The Indian lubricants industry is one of the fastest growing lubricant industries in the world. The key

Okonkwo Patriarchy
Patriarchy in this society also seems to cause dehumanization. One instance is seen through Ikemefuna
who is given up to Umuofia as a sacrifice for killing one of the women of Umuofia. Ikemefuna was
given to Okonkwo without his agreement. However, he became close to Okonkwo and his family and
soon even became a role model to Nwoye. Okonkwo began considering him his son and Ikemefuna
could hardly imagine that Okonkwo was not his real father (7.59). Nwoye seems to be becoming more
masculine and, Okonkwo was inwardly pleased at his son s development and he knew it was due to
Ikemefuna (7.52). Yet the rules of the tribe are that you must listen to the elders and the spirit. This
rule was probably made by the first great tribes and now it

  • 2. The New Zealand Flag Debate Essay The New Zealand Flag debate (New Zealand Government, 2015, para. 1). Prime Minister John Key, the main advocate for change, officially launched such discussion last year in a public address he gave at Victoria s University in Wellington. One of the main points presented in Key s (2014) speech were his views on how he believes Moreover Key (2014) also argued (para. 88). So far the Prime Ministers proposal failed to inspire the public. On the contrary, it has produced a substantial amount of controversy. The main arguments seem to revolt around the issues of cost, process, national symbol, history and change. This paper will look more closely into each of these aforementioned public differences and close with my own view concerning this debate. To date the majority of the Countries that were once part of the British Empire, have discarded the Union flag symbol from their flag designs (Silver Fern Flag, 2015, para. 1). For example, in 1965 Canada dropped the Union Jack in favour of the more distinctive maple leaf. According to Champion (2010) Canada s public opinion was similar to that of current NZ citizens before the vote took place. He states that (p. 180). Nonetheless, further down the road public opinion changed and Canadians welcomed a new flag. Another past British colony South Africa, changed its flag in 1994 proclaiming the new rainbow nation (Bornman, 2006). • 3. Buddhism Is An Indispensable Element Of Chinese And... Buddhism has been the main religion of china for several thousands of years. In fact, Buddhism is an indispensable element of Chinese philosophy and literature. As we all know, Buddhism originated in India and first spread to China around 100BC. Nevertheless, (Mahayana) Buddhism in China separated itself from the mainstream Buddhism and created a new form of Bodhisattva precept instead of following the Indian Vinaya precept. In fact , the distinct Chinese history and culture played significant roles in the development and formation of Mahayana Buddhism . The change of Chinese society also had a great impact on the doctrine and status of Mahayana Buddhism. In this paper, I will illustrate the reason why Buddhism was widely accepted by China as an alien religion , analyze how the indigenous philosophy such as Taoism and Confucianism affected the Mahayana concept and find the relationship between Mahayana Buddhism and Chinese Imperialism. Chinese has always been a confident nation most of the time. As they believe that China is the Celestial Empire of the world, Chinese rulers and scholars are reluctant to accept heterodox knowledge, especially religion. For hundreds of years, Confucianism had been the essence of Chinese Philosophy. However, By the middle of the second century. A.D, the great Han Empire was on the edge of disintegration. • 4. Literary Analysis Of To Homer By John Keats Homer had a way of illustrating the natural world in exquisite detail. To him, the irregular shapes and bold colors that surrounded him told stories only he could fathom. No one could have guessed that Homer was blind. Every reader makes a choice to either read the top layer of his work and visualize what their brain desires, or absorb the creativity and stand in the middle of his flamboyant visions, not realizing that they have been changed forever. John Keats expresses how Homer s writing had a way of healing his own ignorance, and changing his life from the moment he read it. Keats writes about how he was most definitely not the same person he was before his exposure to Homer. The poem, To Homer by John Keats explicates the idea that although Homer was physically blind, he enabled a man blind with ignorance (Keats), to see the world through his literature. The first part of the poem explains Keats ignorance before reading, as well as the greek gods revealing elements of sky, sea, and land to Homer and then Keats. The first few lines express how Keats was ignorant because of him not understanding Homer s writing. Later he explains how he has heard of Homer, and how Homer wants to see, dolphin coral in deep seas. The importance of mentioning coral here is that coral is known for its bright colors and funky shapes, something one can only witness with their eyes, which Homer wishes he was able to. Then, Keats blatantly mentions how Homer is blind, but then says, the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Italian Neorealism Genre During World War II many films in Italy the Italian community created a new type of genre for that specific decade called Italian Neorealism. The Neorealism genre was a style of film characterized by stories done by the poor and working class. These movies were typically filmed on location meaning not in a studio but rather at a real place and used nonprofessional actors. The films themselves contended with the difficulty of life post World War II. The early films were about social issues and war. Director Roberto Rossellini s created a movie during the Neorealist time called Rome Open City which was released in 1945. The movie shows a deeply moving portrait of Rome during the last couple years of the war, with Germany occupying the city and Allied forces slowly closing in. The film was made on whatever film stock Rossellini could gather up in the post war Italian economy. It was shot in the streets of Rome with a kind of documentary realism that would show an even greater impact to this story. Rome Open City for me personally was a very amusing movie to watch because I ve never watched a foreign movie before and it was something different to see especially back in 1945 when the war was going on. For me it s incredible how this movie did so well during a time of tragedy and yet movies here not in the US can t even get a decent rating. I did on the other hand have a bit of a hard time following the movie because the lyrics that were given to the movie in english weren t that amazing I feel like if I spoke Italian or if it was remastered into a english film then i d love it even more. The film was divided into two parts. The first half focused on the daily lives of the resistance fighters living in Rome. Francesco works for a communist newspaper, he also helps a group of militant anti Nazi fighters, led by his friend Giorgio. Francesco s fiancée, the Pina is involved in the struggle as well she helps create riots against the shops that control food rations and keep the people of the city from getting enough to eat. One of the major things I loved about this film was how Rossellini balances the film s darker moments with surprising humorous touches, especially when using the priest Don Pietro. The Part that ... If they are coming up to me just to let them out or if they want some love or affection because they didn t get any dinner scraps I will always love them and I will always be thankful for my two big bundles of joy. I noticed quickly that this man, one of ethnical minority, relied on his family members to give him information and advice pertaining to his treatment, as he himself seemed ignorant to his own medical problems. I found his case fascinating, as he not only had one kidney, but he was also suffering many other debilitating medical crisis , all brought on by his failing renal system. I distinctly remember wondering why transplantation was not being discussed, or if it was even an option for him. My interest led me to discovering a disproportionate disparity among those who receive live donor kidney transplants, referred to as LDKT, in the United States. It is first important to understand that live kidney transplants have many benefits when compared to deceased donor transplants. Among these benefits include prolonged survival rates of up to 18 years. Also, living donor kidneys begin functioning almost immediately after surgery, and, lastly, there is the added benefit of bypassing a waiting list, limiting time spent, if any, on dialysis (Mysel, 2016). Interestingly, the majority of recipients of LDKT transplants in the United States are white. In juxtaposition, renal disease is actually more prominent in minorities such as African Americans and Hispanics. • 14. Link between Verbal Fluency and Phonological Short-Term... Each time a bilingual speaks its brain functions in slightly different ways than that of a monolingual s. Bilinguals deal with constant dual language activation as they are able to switch between two sometimes very different languages. The ability to use one language without intrusions from the other language is seen as an important topic of study (Van Assche, Duyck, and Gollan, 2013). However, one of the costs of being bilingual is the reduced exposure to each language. Studies show that both sequential and simultaneous bilinguals score lower on vocabulary measures than monolinguals (Rosselli et al., 200 as cited in Kaushankaya, Blumenfeld and Marian, 2011). Strong evidence for weakened vocabulary performance in bilinguals comes from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Lexical representations are classified for language membership after receiving syntactic properties (lemmas). This enables the bilingual person to produce language in a selective manner. Furthermore, bilinguals use task schemas and a Supervisory Attentional System to create, retrieve and, if necessary to adapt these task schemas. Because bilinguals cannot completely turn off one language the letter version of the verbal fluency task used in the present study activates twice as many lexical representations in bilinguals than in monolinguals. This will lead to a greater degree of competition for activation across languages hence the effect of subject type (Van Assche et al., 2013). In the present research bilinguals and monolinguals verbal fluency is tested using a classic letter fluency task. According to the literature bilinguals have a disadvantage in Vocabulary acquisition that we expect to see manifest in their Verbal Fluency Task scores. Kaushankaya et al. (2011) were interested in the link between phonological short term memory and vocabulary development in children and word learning in adults that has been found in previous research (Gathercole and Adams, 1993,1994; Service and Martin, 1997). The project finalized in mid 2000, is estimated to be one of the most expensive of its kind. It is in the lines of the high speed rail systems existing in France, Japan and China. Intercity passenger revenue; 2. Benefits to both intercity and urban high speed train passengers (net of fares paid); 3. Reduction of airside delay for air passengers; 4. Reduction in aircraft operating costs; 5. Reduction of highway delay for both intercity and urban auto trips; and 6. Reduction of accident and air pollution costs from intercity and urban auto trips. This analysis is done assuming the benefits accrued in the year 2050. The costs are evaluated from the year 2011 the proposed time of starting the project, while the benefits are calculated from the year 2020 the expected time of launching the project. The estimated streams of benefits and costs occurring each year between 2011 and 2050 were discounted to their present value and summarized to calculate the benefit cost ratio. The discount rate is a means of calculating a value now of benefits that occur in the future. The discount rate recognizes the time value of money. The International Fund for Animal welfare was discussed in the documentary as they have tried to shine a negative light on the practicing of sealing. Their aim was to show the sealers as oppressing the seals and asserting their dominance over a weaker species. Which raises the idea of what socially and culture is defined as okay to be used as food and what is not. The sealers made it known that the seal are used as a source of food and that they are not just clubbing seals for sport. During the documentary it said that the seals were killed in a manner no different that of which you would see in a slaughter house. The best and most expensive methods were used on the wealthy, but there were cheaper alternatives for the poor. Every Egyptian was entitled to mummification, with the exception of some criminals. The best and most costly form of mummification was a very lengthy and extensive process. This lengthy process took more than seventy days to complete. The first step was to draw out the brain through the nostrils. A long, slightly hooked tool was introduced into the brain through the nose, swirled around to liquefy the brain. The head was then tipped forward and all contents of the skull poured out, again through the nose. The next step was to remove the contents of the abdomen. In my essay I will be discussing the organization, purpose, beliefs, values, and norms of Narcotics Anonymous. As well as the stereotypes I had before I emerged myself into this culture. When I first chose Narcotics Anonymous I immediately went to a friend of mine who is 5 years sober to figure out which meetings I should go to and where. She offered for me to tag along to a few of her meetings. Before I went to the first meeting I had certain stereotypes on what a meeting would be like and what kind of people would be there. I remember watching movies when I was younger and seeing a portrait of AA meetings. I thought when I walked in it would be a bunch of criminals, or crazy people. Some of the stereotypes I experienced were associated with physical appearance. Some aspects of a person s physical appearance, such as the actual body characteristics, ... • 41. American Workers Are More Beneficial And Cost Efficient... Many American workers are at risk of losing their jobs to man made machinery. One author, Adam Davidson, wrote Making It in America, and he argues that American workers are more beneficial and cost efficient than machinery. He uses his interview with Standard Motor Products employee, Maddie Parlier, to build his argument. Maddie is a low educated worker who was forced to take the job at SMP when she became pregnant her senior year of high school. Though she was quick and effective working the laser welding machine, the unskilled job increased her chance of being replaced by a machine. Many manufacturing companies have found machines more efficient, but don t realize the effect on American workers. Davidson builds his credibility with logical facts and statistics, and displaying emotional appeals to influence the audience; however, by the end of his article, his ability to influence his readers with his supporting facts strengthens his argument. Throughout Making It in America, Davidson uses his personal experiences to strengthen his credibility and support his argument. The author s sources come from personal interactions with the Standard Motor Products Company, including interviews with Maddie Parlier, Luke Hutchins (skilled machinists at SMP), and manager Tony Scalzitti. Tony comes to explain that, Maddie is cheaper than a machine, (Davidson 338). The manager tells us that low skilled workers are capable of being trained in a short amount of time, while ... • 42. The Bacchae Symbolism Euripides The Bacchae is a play that uses contrasting places to represent opposing forces or ideas. Specifically, Euripides uses the city of Thebes to represent the West and he uses the surrounding wilderness to represent the East. The West is associated with the ideas of rationality, conformity, and appearance while the East is associated with the ideas of irrationality, nonconformity, and reality. The West, Thebes, and Pentheus stand in stark contrast to the East, wilderness, and Dionysus. The West symbolizes masculinity, Greek culture, and city life. In the West lies Thebes, a city that holds strict laws and ways of thinking; particularly laws restraining women to play a certain roll and keep them from acting out. It is a city that holds ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the West holds values such as conformity and civilization, the East represents the nonconformity and irrationality. The East symbolizes freedom from civilization and strict laws such as those set in the city of Thebes. It symbolizes the wilderness and it s liberation of society s standards. Along with the freedom from responsibility, the wilderness also symbolizes reality. An example of the freedom brought by the wilderness is when the women of Thebes flee to the woods to celebrate the gifts of the earth of wine, honey, and milk, given by Dionysus. By doing this, they are defying the laws and order of Pentheus. Dionysus is the personification of the ideals in the East. He represents the liberation and irrationality that comes with the wilderness surrounding the city of Thebes. He is the missing piece from Pentheus order and control that is needed to obtain balance. The conflict caused by the characters Pentheus and Dionysus and the idea s of conformity and liberation are central to the way The Bacchae plays out. It is the conflict between these two aspects that helps to reveal the theme that for there to be balance, there must be freedom where there is order. Pentheus hamartia is his lack of understanding of the balance needed, or the golden mean. Pentheus lacks perception as to how his over orderly ways are what causes the disruption of Dionysus wild self to be so extreme and incidentally leading to Pentheus ... • 43. The Change Of A Change Leader I believe that the change that is to occur has a large part on the strategies that a change leader must use to build employee commitment and buy in. According to Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) Getting people to buy in may depend upon what it is that they are buying into: whether they perceive it as favorable to them and whether the change had been adequately justified to them (p.302). If it was a small change, it doesn t take much to get people to buy in, but if it is a large change it will take some work. The first strategy that I would use as a change leader to communicate a change is to discuss the need for the change. I believe that if people can see why the process needs to changed, it will open them up to the possibility of a change. I have seen a lot of process done wrong or a slow way because it was how it has always been done in that organization. If someone would have come into that organization and told them that the amount of time they were wasting and showed them the new way, I think the organization would buy in. The second strategy that I would use for communicating the change is to provide everyone with accurate information on the change, it would include how the change is going to happen and how it will affect everyone. I will only send out information that I feel they need to know so I do not overload them. Palmer, Dunford and Akin (2009) state information overload is even more problematic in companies where participants are already in receipt of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 47. Okonkwo Patriarchy Patriarchy in this society also seems to cause dehumanization. One instance is seen through Ikemefuna who is given up to Umuofia as a sacrifice for killing one of the women of Umuofia. Ikemefuna was given to Okonkwo without his agreement. However, he became close to Okonkwo and his family and soon even became a role model to Nwoye. Okonkwo began considering him his son and Ikemefuna could hardly imagine that Okonkwo was not his real father (7.59). Nwoye seems to be becoming more masculine and, Okonkwo was inwardly pleased at his son s development and he knew it was due to Ikemefuna (7.52). Yet the rules of the tribe are that you must listen to the elders and the spirit. This rule was probably made by the first great tribes and now it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
