My Favorite Experience
THEY HAVE CARAMEL POPCORN, I yelled to my friends. They didn t seem to
care, but on an elementary field trip there is always so much going on that even
caramel popcorn can seem boring. We were in the old student building of the
University of Washington and the lunches were blowing my mind. Compared to the
reheated by microwave slop they plopped on my tray everyday back at school, this
cafeteria was a feast for the gods. I knew I had to go here someday, if only to be
able to get caramel popcorn every day for lunch. Despite not recognizing the brilliant
architecture, wonderful academics, and prestigious reputation, I think I had my
priorities right as a kid. The popcorn, to be fair, was delicious.
However, about seven years later, I stared at the beautiful library thinking on how
I would never be able to go. My dreams were crushed, and the school I looked so
forward to going to was not feasible. I felt like a failure. I sat near a turned off
Drumheller Fountain late at night reflecting on how I failed to reach my goal. My
ADHD prevented me from not only doing well in school but it started affecting

distracted. Add on top of that was my brother needed my help because of his

that man had in the eyes of God. The Church believed that this model was divine
and therefore any criticism on the Ptolmaic model coud be viewed as direct

being excommunicated. Copernicus feared the Church so much that he left Italy and
returned to Poland so that he could continue his work without fear of persecution. No

theory to his students by showing them the planets through the use of telescopes. The
Ptolemaic Model of the Universe stated that the Earth was at the center of the
universe, the planets, stars rotated around the Earth in a perfect uniform circular
motion, and that all of the objects in the Heavens were made of perfect material that
could not change.
Nicolaus Copernicus was not the first person to develop the theory of a sun centered
universe. Aristarchus of Samos was the first to propse the theory of a Heliocentric
Universe in 200 B.C.. This theory is very similar to the Ptolemic model of the

about was Lutheran Social Service of Minnesota. In 2012, Children s Home Society

Most dog owners and lovers would agree that pets are like family. Each animal
with their own personality, responses, and personal temperament. It is nearly
impossible to create broad generalizations based just on one breed. Breed specific
legislation, or breed banning, is an ordinance passed by local government basically
outlawing a specific breed or group of breeds of dogs that are considered dangerous.
Banning specific breeds is not an effective method for keeping the public safe from
dog bites or attacks. The ban does not account for differences in each dog s
temperament, socialization, or behavior displayed by individual dogs, but groups all

I myself own a two year old female American pit bull. She has never shown any
kind of aggression, yet, it is nearly impossible for me to live in any apartment home
due to these breed restrictions.
Although these dogs are stereotyped as being dangerous , bite statistics, when
accurately reported, do not back up those claims. The first thing is to find out which
dogs are doing the biting. Dundee Hospital in the UK conducted a study designed to
analyze bite reports and medical attention required by bite victims over a three month
period before and after the implementation of a breed ban specifically targeting pit
bulls. The results indicated no change in the number of bites reported. Banning pit
bulls did nothing to change the amount of dog bites.
Most breed laws are poorly written and do not take into account the individual
temperaments of the dogs considered vicious. Mandatory leash laws are much
more effective in controlling dog bites, when the proper resources are available to
enforce the laws. Mandatory leash laws do not stereotype dogs based on their
breed and put the responsibility back in the hands of the owner. Some cities have
bans so strict that if a specific breed, usually pit bulls, and or pit bull mixes is within
city limits that have the breed ban, the dogs are confiscated and
