BURJ KHALIFA

WHEN AND WHERE
            WAS THE STRUCTURE
                  BUILT?

The Burj Khalifa is a skyscraper in Dubai United
                  Arab Emirates.
The construction began on 21 September 2004
and it was completed on October 2009, but the
building officially opened on January 4 2009.
WHY WAS THE
              STRUCTURE BUILT?
               WHAT WAS/IS ITS
                  PURPOSE?

The decision to build the Burj Khalifa is based
on the government's decision to expand from an
oil-based economy into an economy that is more
focused on tourism and finacial survices.
WHAT ARE THE
             ARCHITECTURAL FEATURES
            THAT MAKE THIS STRUCTURE
                    SPECIAL?

The tower is designed by Skidmore, Owings and
Merrill, which also designed the Willis
Towers(that is by the way the tallest building in
Chicago). The architects where inspired by a
flower.(see photo) The Burj Khalifa uses the
              bundled tube designs.
WHAT WERE SOME OF THE
            CHALLENGES ENGINEERS FACED
                 WHEN BUILDING THIS
              STRUCTURE? HOW DID THEY
                  OVERCOME THESE?

The Burj Khalifa had some difficulties because
the building company ran out of money to
complete the building but then Scheich
Mohammed came and supported the company by
           giving the needed money.
HOW LONG DID IT
           TAKE TO COMPLETE
            THE BUILDING OF
            THE STRUCTURE?

They began with building on 21 September
2004, and it was completed on 1 October 2009.
So it took nine day‘s and four years to build.
