2. FACTS
• The Alami Bridge, or Puente del Alamillo was built in 1992 for the expo in Seville,
Spain. The expo is a world fair with different themes that represents technology
development of every country. It has become so popular that every country has
there own booth. The first expo was in London in 1851. The next expo will be held
in Milan in 2015.
• The bridge is held up by 26 tensioned steel cables and one pier. This is the only
bridge in the world were the pylon is not anchored from the back that means there
are no tie backs.
• One challenge was that they had to build the bridge with only one pylon and no tie
backs. They overcame this by making the bridge even out the weight using the one
pier. It was a lot of work on planing to build this unique bridge.

Sad Fact: Originally they planned to
build a double bridge but the
construction was too expensive so
they ended up with only one bridge.
