Biomass refers to renewable energy sources produced from natural materials like plant and animal waste, wood, garbage and landfill gases. It has several benefits such as being a sustainable resource that can boost local economies and reduce climate change impacts. However, biomass also produces greenhouse gas emissions. Key discoveries mentioned include that biomass is among the top three most renewable sources, plants get energy from the sun through photosynthesis which is then passed to animals, and energy crops could be specifically grown as an alternative to crops like corn currently used for energy.
