Editor's Notes

  • #3 Exercise- pick a brand and give it one word (put on board). Top 10 Reputable Brands in America: Amazon Apple Walt Disney Google Johnson & Johnson Coca-Cola Whole Foods Sony P&G Costco 10 Least Reputable Brands Comcast Wells Fargo JP Morgan BP Citi Bank of America American Airlines Halliburton Goldman Sachs AIG Source: Harris Interactive® based on 6 categories: Social Responsibility, Emotional Appeal, Financial Performance, Products and Services, Vision and Leadership, and Workplace Environment
  • #4 A Brand is a unique entity in which a specific image or phrase comes to mind when discussing or viewing an image or logo.
  • #5 Your brand is your reputation. It is about bringing who you are to what you do and how you do it.
  • #8 Each of these areas are building blocks to creating and maintaining the brand you want. Will only touch on a couple of these, first being Appearance.
  • #9 Exercise- say one thing about this woman.
  • #10 The lesson: it only takes a second or two to create a first impression. http://wardrobeperfect.com/Pages/ImageTipsArticles/image_tips_articles.html http://totalimageconsultants.com/services/before-and-after-fashion-makeovers/
  • #11 Business attire serves two important purposes, both of them symbolic. -1. It conveys a seriousness of purpose. -If you show up to work in Pajama Pants and a sweat shirt, will you be taken seriously? -2. Business attire gives an impression (possibly incorrect one) of competence. -Think surgeon visiting you in a golf shirt versus a lab coat. it DOES matter how you dress and how you present yourself because your first impression is going to go a long way in determining how well you fit in
  • #12 - As explained previously, your image is completely situational. Take the doctor for instance, it’s expected that he come in with a lab coat on. - A contractor would be laughed at if he showed up to a job in a business suit. - This is where the goals in your career become aligned. - Question: if you had to meet with the CEO of the company, how would you like to be perceived? - Consider your company’s culture.
  • #13 People are always judging you. A First impression can be made in as little as 3 seconds and could take up to 18 additional meetings to change. Your attire is the first thing that’s seen, but always remember that your attitude will be the thing that is remembered most. Check what you say and how you say it.
  • #14 A Negative attitude will create walls and barriers that otherwise would not exist. Positivity, however, will create an vast sea of opportunities. Best way to change a negative attitude it to understand the outcome or consequences of the attitude. Understand what causes your negative attitude. Remember that you still have a choice. Optimism has been shown to be a better predictor of success than education, I.Q. and most other factors. Gossip can create a toxic environment. It makes people want to leave. It hurts people. Gossiping breeds distrust. Use the adage “If you wouldn’t say it to their face, don’t say it at all”
  • #15 EXERCISE: Squinch yourself in. Keep your hands close to your body, and keep your knees together. You might even lean forward a bit and turn one foot in. Repeat after me: "I can’t do it. I feel so helpless. I am worthless." Now try this: Sit up straight, or lean back a bit. Now, take up some space. Roll your shoulders back. Get your elbows away from your body, perhaps by putting your hands behind your head or putting your hand on the seat next to you. Stretch out your legs Repeat after me: "I am totally in charge. I’m invincible. I’m on top of the world.“

  • #17 Personal Branding enhances your self-awareness. When you go through the Personal Branding process, you develop incredible self-understanding about what makes you unique, valuable, and powerful. It helps optimize and flaunt your strengths. Personal Branding helps you clarify and reach your goals. Personal branding requires you to be crystal clear on what you want to achieve and helps you set goals to get there. Personal Branding helps you create visibility and presence. Once you know what is unique and compelling about you or your company, you can use that information to create visibility/presence to those people who will help you achieve your goals. Personal Branding is about differentiation. Personal Branding will help you differentiate yourself from everyone else who has your job title or who says they are in the same business as you. Personal Branding offers more control and power. Personal Branding puts you in control of your business, the clients you have, the projects you work on, and how you want to deliver services. Personal Branding creates wealth. Strong brands charge a premium for their products and services, and differentiated job seekers who know their value can command higher salaries. Personal Branding offers resilience. Strong brands are successful despite challenges and downturns in the economy because they stand for something unique and are differentiated
  • #18 You will become irresistable, thus causing a chain reaction in your career advancement. Your brand is clear and consistent, when people see your face or name, they will have a clear consistent image or phase in their minds. Your uniqueness is what will make you successful- look at Amazon, Apple, Google, etc. Their uniqueness made them successful
  • #19 In closing When you think of yourself as a brand, I want you to go back to those 3 words that you want people to think of when they see your name or face. Continue to be consistent in maintaining those three words. Online is a big, scary place. It’s important to keep tabs of how you are portraying yourself on line as it may close doors to career opportunities. People have been fired over things they have posted online. Associate with individuals that will aid in your personal brand growth! If you are grumpy one morning and feel very down and out or negative- check your attitude at the door and adjust it so that you are maintaining your brand. The key to all of it is to build your confidence.
