This document summarizes a study of housing typologies in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. 500 interviews were conducted to classify dwellings and understand inhabitants' use of space. The study found that 70-80% of Ethiopians live in substandard conditions due to housing shortages. Addis Ababa developed informally without permits, making it a case study for learning from informal housing. While new satellites house the upper class, most residents live in a mixed structure. The study categorized dwellings and analyzed construction materials, builders, and other attributes to understand Ethiopia's distinct housing patterns.
