The Implementation Of The New Standard Rule
As many know revenue is the amount of money that a company receives during a specific period
/time. However revenue recognition is slightly different, it is an accounting principle under GAAP
that determines the specific conditions of when revenue is recognized or accounted for. Since
many believe that the standard was in need for improvement, on August 12, 2015 the FASB issued
an Accounting Standards Update. The update based on the board s decision decided that public
organizations should apply the new revenue recognition to annual reports beginning after December
15, 2017. It is said that the new standard is major achievement for the Boards in improving this
financial standard. The purpose of the new standard is to establish principles... Show more content

By being able to cut down on paperwork and build up a proper support beam would be able to help
the companies in numerous ways. From removing the inconsistencies and weaknesses it would
make it easier for their accountant to look at the financial statements as well an auditor when going
through the company s financials to make sure it s up to par. Therefore, by making a strong
framework for revenue issues then you would be allowed to fix any errors that you may have
missed when trying to eliminate the inconsistencies and weaknesses so that you are able to make
adjusting entries for the revenue issues. More new rules include that it will improve comparability
of revenue recognition practices across entities, industries, jurisdictions, and capital markets, and
provide more useful information to users of financial statements through improved disclosure
requirements, For the new standard to improve the comparability of the revenue recognition is a
huge help to numerous organizations. With being able to compare the revenue documents with
other areas in the financial world then it can be a much better process overall. When people are able
to compare things in different perspectives they get a sense of confidence that they are able to
complete the task given to them. Also with the information being more useful to the users of the

Troy Maxson In August Wilson s Fences
Troy Maxson is the main character in August Wilson s Fences. However, he isn t like most
characters. He has many different faces, or personalities. He shows different traits that make him
different things such as the tragic figure, the hero, and even the villain. Troy Maxson s personality
and the way he presents himself changes throughout the playto transform him into completely
different people. A tragic figure is someone who is noble or wholesome that does something that
leads to their inevitable demise. Troy fits this profile. He especially shows this when he tries to
show off to his wife by talking about how great he is at baseball. Selkirk! That s it! Man batting
.269, understand? .269. What kind of sense that make? I was hitting .432 with thirty seven home
runs! Man batting .269 and playing right field for the Yankees! (1159). Clearly Troy feels as if he
was cheated out of his chance to play in the major leagues. He s talking about how he s much better
than the players now and you can tell that he s upset about it. Troy lets the fact that... Show more

A hero in literacy is defined as the character that the audience can identify themselves with and
usually has to overcome some type of adversity. At the beginning of the play Troy talks with his
best friend Bono about their job as garbage collectors. Troy gets upset because he believes that
they treat him unfairly. Why? Why you got the white mens driving and the colored lifting? Told
him, what s the matter, don t I count? You think only white fellows got enough sense to drive a
truck. That ain t no paper job! Hell, anybody can drive a truck. How come you got all whites

point across, that they should be equals and not separated like that. The audience can identify with

Corporate Tax And Corporate Income Tax
Introduction I believe that there should be corporate income tax, as it acts as a user fee for the
special privileges (Rosen, Ch 19) corporations receive. The corporate income tax is a separate tax
on corporate income, in which varies in a bracket between ten percent and thirty five percent. The
effective corporate income taxrate is estimated at thirty two percent, and eighteen percent for non
corporations. Workers compensation, labor expenses, interest payments, and depreciation are tax
deductible from taxable income. Since corporations sell stock to stockholders, those stockholders
purchased a certain percentage of the corporation. In turn, purchasing a portion of the corporate
liability. If a stockholder accumulates income within the corporation in which he holds stock shares,
he reduces his tax liability. Although the shareholder s additional income would eventually be
taxed, his stock will grow at the before tax rate of interest. This benefits the corporation and the
shareholders, as neither party holds the entire liability, nor do the shareholders pay debt if the
corporation is not generating profit. Corporate income taxalso preserves the integrity of personal
income tax. I believe that there should be corporate income tax, as the lack there of could create
potential opportunities for personal tax avoidance (Rosen, Ch 19).
Corporate Income Tax Incidence The corporate income tax incidence is dependent on whether the
perspective is from the short, long, or

Well having a time for talking to the teaching, talking with other students, and studying may
improve higher test scores. Taking time to understand the lesson and thoroughly study will make
the learning pace improve. Having a mandatory study hall may improve test scores and higher
students abilities.
Student s grade average could improve with a mandatory study hall. Studies show that 71% of
students strongly agreed that a study hall improved their performance. The purpose is to help
support students struggling with time management issues related to homework and study. These are

Birchbox Marketing Strategy
Pick a company that is a Giant in its category. What marketing tools would you use to help you slay
this Giant? Why would these give your brand a competitive advantage?
Birchbox is a company that distributes make up boxes for a monthly fee. In the box there are five
or six beauty samples from different companies that are supposed to entice the consumers to
purchase the products from the Birchbox website. The products range from self tanner, to dry
shampoo, and more.

As a competitor on a smaller scale, my biggest asset would be listening to our consumers and
responding quickly, and asking them what they hated and didn t want back, along with what
samples they could not live without. By flooding social media with interactions and other forms
of engagement, we would appear larger than we are. We are nimble, and could provide
momentary flash sales for items that are popular only, on a weekly or biweekly basis. That ability
to focus on consumer needs, along with trying new things on both end of the spectrum or exotic
brands, is what would set us apart form Birchbox, or things in the like.

Summary Of Valmiki s Ramayana

Midterm Essay
Valmiki s Ramayana has transcended being simply a folktale, and has manifested itself into an
embodiment of virtues. It has great influence over the expectation of a women in the society; the
status and the ideal itself has been conferred upon them by the Ramayana which depict Sita as the
ideal wife worthy of being emulated by Hindu women. There is a similar, recurring pattern that
seems to unfold for any women depicted in the Ramayana who actively stray beyond this idea
model. These women, particularly Tataka, Shurpanakha and Ahalya, are depicted as creatures that
conclude in paying the heavy consequences set on them by the patriarchy.
Foremost, the primary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Shurpanakha is a demon from Lanka, who speaks with sharp directness, and isn t hesitant to use her
sexual power as a tactic of getting what she wants. Ahalya, though she slightly varies from Tataka
and Shurpanakha, is still undeniably influenced by the forests temptations. In the earliest, full
narrative, when Indra comes disguised as her husband, Ahalya sees through his disguise, but
consents owing to her curiosity . In another interpretation, Ahalya s pride in her beauty compels her
to continue, but in both cases she doesn t deny her impulses and consciously acts on it.
In each of their respective narratives, the three women share a moment where they fall from grace ,
and part from their virtues. In the Ramayana, physical beauty is so intimately correlated to holiness
and godliness. For example, when Rama is being described, there is extraordinary amount of
detail and attention given to the description of his appearance; sentences on sentences just about
the statuesque form of Rama s arms. It is undeniable that physical appearance is a direct mirror
of the character s inner disposition. The women are originally described as having unparalleled
beauty. It s only when they part from what is considered virtuous, do they transform and lose their
physical appeal. In Tataka s case, she was once a beautiful princess whose falling moment was
when she chose to seek out revenge, and allow herself to be engulfed in utter rage. She was

Cocaine Abuse
Cocaine abuse has been a persistent health problem worldwide for many years (Platt, 2002).
Adults aged 18 to 25 year have a higher rate of current cocaine use than any other age group, with
1.5 percent of young adults reporting past month cocaine use (The Science of Drug Abuse
Addiction , 2013). Every drug has a history as to how it came about, also, as to why it is used and
or abused among adults. Each drug has its own chemical make up, along with how that drug works
in the human body. Treatment of cocaineaddiction must be comprehensive, and strategies need to

Narcotics Anonymous (NA) meeting. NA is a nonprofit, community based, 12 step recovery
organization for recovering drug addicts (Bowens, 2011, p. 1). The meeting I attended took
place outside on a Saturday afternoon at Magnolia Park in Garden Grove, California. It is an
open group tag meeting, where one speaker will tag another person to share and welcome for
anyone to attend. It was very easy to locate the meeting, as it was right in front of the park s only
parking lot with members sitting in a circle on benches and lawn chairs. The meeting started at
12:00pm and ended around 1:30pm. The group facilitator was a Caucasian man in his forties
named Bob. Bob had been in and out of recovery for nearly 16 years, but recently relapsed in
August of 2015. He has experienced four overdoses since then, and is on his way to working the

members (four female, 16 male) in this meeting, composed of 75% Caucasian, 20% Hispanic

Industrialization Of Industrialization And...
Industrialization is a starting point for many of the technologies and factories around and exists
today, despite the negative influences of the industrialization, people gained many benefits from it
too. For example, because of the industrialization workers are more efficient producing goods and
products, also industrialization helped many people walked out of the countryside which broadens
their perspectives. For many countries, industrialization is a voluntary movement within the
country, but as an exception, China s industrialization is forced due to the barbarism action from
Britain, France and many other countries. Recalls the first Opium War, which is the event that
aroused the industrialization in China, and later the second Opium war etc.... Due to the pressure
from enemies, China has to start industrialization in order to strengthen itself and to protect the
people from the opponents. Overall, industrialization was a hard and a long term battle not only
with other countries but also within China itself. Luckily, China slowly recovered from its failure
and walked out of its shadow by the transformation through the self strengthening movement, the
Xinhai revolutionand when new China was founded in 1949. Even though China is still in the
process of industrialization, but due to its transformation, China is now deemed as one of the
strongest industrial countries around the world.

The Terrorist Turn Adopted By Eta
However, the terrorist turn adopted by ETA was not an effective strategy to have their voice heard
in a democracy. As argued by Furlow and Goodall, a way to understand the political rhetoric of any
extremist group is to analyse their core narrative techniques. Linking enemies to historical villains
of the past is a common strategy for extremist groups to justify their actions. Reminding the
historical repression of the Basque identity is actually the strategy adopted by ETAto justify its
actions. Such as strategy turns out to be inefficient in democratic Spain.
At first, the heavy repression undertaken by the Franco government boosted ETA s support not only
in the Basque country but also internationally. The main strategies of ETA were... Show more

The Franco Government answered by sentencing death penalty to any person found guilty, but this
practice only strengthened international support for ETA, which was compared to national
liberation movements (Alonso, 2011). As Spain was on the verge of democratization, ETA
experienced profound changes in its internal structure. In 1974, ETA was divided into two groups,
a military one (ETA m) and a political military one (ETA pm). ETA m, the minority group, wanted
to stick with use of violence only while ETA pm was advocating that armed struggle should be
coupled with popular mobilization (de la Calle and Sanchez Cuenca, 2013).
The repression faced during the dictatorship along with the determinant role played by ETA in the
opposition to the dictatorship encouraged the democratic government to recognize the
particularities of the Basque identity. After passing an amnesty law for all ETA prisoners in 1977,
the Government granted the status of autonomy to the region. The Basque Country now had a
Basque Parliament, a Basque Government, their own education and health system, their own fiscal
system as well as their own police force. As a result, Basque history and language were inserted in
school curriculum and Basque newspapers emerged. But ETA wanted independence. The group
thus radicalized killing civil guards, businessmen, parliamentarians, judges and prosecutors,
journalists, university professors but also civilians in car bombing attacks. In April1995, ETA

The Multitasking Generation an Article by Claudia Wallis
Though there are some positive effects, the adverse impact of technology on education has been
extraordinary. The technology community has worked hard to bring useful technology into our
classrooms, all with good intentions to broaden our knowledge. With these good intentions also
came about unwanted side effects such as distraction and disruption in the classroom. I can clearly
remember many of my teachers yelling at us to put our cell phones, iPods, and iTouch phones

With these technological distractions it has become more and more difficult to be successful in a
learning environment. It is certainly a near impossible task to learn a difficult lesson and also be
texting away on a cell phone or Facebook. These same devices that can enhance our learning can
also backfire and detract from it. The same technology that allows teachers some benefit, professors
also find a nuisance. The mobile phones that have basically become mobile computers are
considered a major distraction because of the silent ringers, e mails, and instant messages that
interrupt us constantly while we are in class. Distraction is not the only worry to the teachers in
classrooms worldwide; technology has also made cheating more easily. Stephanie Dunnewind states
her point of view in Internet Creates New Opportunities for Cheating, but Also Learning that More
than three quarters of public school students admitted to cheating on an exam in the past year,
either by copying, using crib notes or helping another student. Some students justify dishonesty as a
fairness issue (113). The problem with students multi tasking is that it takes awhile for our brains to
get back into focus of what we were doing prior to the intrusion. Intrusions during class result in the
students finding trouble with participating in the lesson getting their class work done. The

Islam is one of the leading religions in the middle east region. This religion still bases its country

resiliency, a resiliency that could only be found by living the true American Dream, pioneering. By
describing her never ending strength and her undying love, Cather symbolizes Antonia as the
strength of a true pioneer. In the passage Cather describe these emotions when she states, I had not
been mistaken. She was a battered woman now, not a lovely girl; but she still had that something
which fires the imagination, could still stop one s breath for a moment by a look or gesture that
somehow revealed the meaning in common things...All the strong things of her heart came out in
her body, that had been so tireless in serving generous emotions (Cather 207). Using her passage,
Cather describes Antonia as a weathered old lady, who has been toughened by the land. Yet,
through this withered appearance, Antonia s imaginative inner quality still shines through. Through
Antonia, Cather draws a picture of an enduring source of compassion and warmth, often providing
strength to other characters, such as Jim. Through Antonia, Cather conveys to her audience that the
true strength of the pioneer comes from within. She elucidates Antonia s character to illustrate the
pioneer s ability to survive

Steve Jobs And Einstein s Accomplishments
At CES, one of the biggest electronic showcases, Steve Jobs, Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, and
Walt Disney gave speeches over their respective fields. Steve Jobs opened the show with the new
IPhone and the ICar, which was a big hit. Einstein then followed up with his new time travel
machine that he used to get himself and Thomas Edison to the showcase. Edison introduced the
new lightsaber by containing plasma in an electromagnetic field. Finally Disney showed off his
newest film with 20k quality. After the showcase the four went to a bar in Las Vegas. Einstein and
Edison saw many things that were frowned upon during their time, however the four had a good
time. Each one shared their achievements, trying to outdo the others, yet no one could agree which

Traditional Utilitarianism. According To Our Text,...
Traditional Utilitarianism According to our text, utilitarianism is a general term for any view that
holds that actions and policies should be evaluated based on the benefits and costs they will impose
on society (Velasquez, 2012). In any circumstance, the right activity or approach is the one that will
create the best net advantages or the most reduced net costs (when all options have just net
expenses). Furthermore, utilitarianismrule holds that any activity is morally right if and just if the
aggregate results of a similar demonstration are more than the results created by some other activity
a specialist could have done in its place. As indicated by utilitarianism just a single activity is ideal
in the last examination: the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In any case, customary utilitarians would preclude that an activity from securing a specific kind is
dependably either right or off base. Rather, each activity would need to be measured given its
specific conditions. Utilitarian perspectives have additionally been exceedingly powerful in
financial aspects. A long line of business analysts, starting in the nineteenth century, contended that
monetary conduct could be clarified by expecting that individuals dependably endeavor to amplify
their utility and that the utilities of products can be measured by the costs individuals will pay for
them.
Ecological Ethic Ecological ethics is the moral view that nonhumans parts of the earth should be
saved for their own purpose, paying little mind to whether this gives individuals advantages.
Additionally, we people have an obligation to not hurt them without adequately genuine reasons.
There are a few assortments of biological morals, some more radical and expansive than others. The
most famous form asserts that, notwithstanding individuals, different creatures have natural esteem
and are meriting our regard and security. A few utilitarians, for example, Peter Singer, for instance
have claimed that agony is a shrewdness whether it is incurred on people or on individuals from
different species. Moreover, Singer contends that the torment experienced by a

Impact Of Globalization On Indian Social Structure
ABSTRACT:
Caste has always been integral to the Indian social structure. Be it in the historical era or be it in
the globalized era, caste has managed not to cease from the Indian society. Though the nature of
caste system has changed tremendously, the basic crux remains the same, i.e. the majority of the
backward castes/ social groups still remain backward. The globalization era might have an era of
positive impact on nations world wide, ironically, it has managed to leave negative impacts too.
Similarly, globalization has impacted caste too. It is a phenomenon that has not only led to
pauperization but has rapidly increased social inequalities. In this paper, an attempt shall be made
to analyze the impact globalization has left on castes. The following section of this paper shall try
and reflect on issues like education, employment, poverty etc in context to Dalits in India.
INTRODUCTION:
The term globalization had started gaining prominence towards the end of twentieth century. Over
the period of time, it has become one of the most discussed phenomenon. It is not about the process
of international integration of nations and their economic activities, but as a matter fact, it is way
more complex involving other factors like environmental challenges, politics and other socio
cultural aspects.
Speaking of globalization, it promises not just development and prosperity for all at a global level,
but also ensures social welfare and freedom. However, in the past few years,

The short story, The Yellow Wall Paper , written by Charlotte Perkins Stetson, illustrates the
mental downfall of the narrator. The narrator, a wife and mother, is suffering from the symptoms
of depression and anxiety. Her husband, John, who is a physician, diagnoses her with a nervous
disease and suggests that she stay in a summer home until she recovers from it. He advises her not
to write because he believes that it will only add to the progression of her illness. She continues to
write in spite of John who is attempting to understand her loneliness. She thinks her nervous
depression is only temporary, so she complies with the order to stay in the summer house. This

Symbolism Of Sleep In Macbeth
In the Bible it says, Have nothing to do with a false charge and do not put a person asleep, an
innocent or honest person to death, for I will not acquit the guilty . God speaks about the harm of
killing the innocent and the people asleep. In the play, Macbeth, by William Shakespeare uses this
idea of sleep symbolizing the innocence and when provoked will lead to the eternal sleep of honest
people, the madness upon the guilty, and the death of innocence. The protagonist, Macbeth,
challenges god s testament and does wicked actions which reel in the sleep theme. Firstly,
Macbeth provokes the symbol of sleep which is a gift of god by leading honest people into eternal
sleep, death. Macbeth s actions reflect his character as vile perpetrator... Show more content on

Macbeth hears cries that continuously haunt his life. It cries, Sleep no more to all the house;
Glamis hath murdered sleep; and therefore Cawdor shall sleep no more (II, ii, l.44). This quote
interconnects with the sleep theme because Glamis and Cawdor are both Macbeth s roles prior
to being king and that now that Macbeth has killed a person in their sleep, he shall never sleep.
This idea shows the main point of madness if you don t go to sleep you will be tired and start
feeling mad and ill tempered. Another example would be Lady Macbeth doing strange things in her
sleep. Her servants say, I have seen her rise from her bed, throw her night gown upon her...the
benefit of sleep, and do the effects of watching (V, i, l. 3 7). This shows the madness of Lady
Macbeth who helped Macbeth murder King Duncan which makes her guilty was in the bubble in
her mind that she is doing everything awake but she is doing it in her sleep. This madness is led
by the guilt of killing the innocence and depriving them of their peaceful sleep. Macbeth s power
influences madness, eternal sleep and death of

Marginalization Of Felons In Michelle Alexander s The New Jim
With no doubt, mass incarceration has produced broken people from a broken system. What breaks
the heart even more is knowing that there are collateral consequences that follow these ex prisoners
throughout the rest of their life. Those who come out of the incarcerated system struggle to get
back on their feet due to discrimination. Marginalization of felons can be found anywhere
specifically in jobs, housing, and even in debt that they cannot afford. Iris Marian Young introduces
the birdcage metaphor, where one wire of the cage represents racism. However, there are many
wires that create racism, and each of them have different approaches in keeping the bird, or the
disadvantaged, trapped in the cage. Michelle Alexander s book, The New Jim... Show more content

Simply, being labeled a felon restricts the individual from several aspects in life. Alexander
states that they are unable to drive, get a job, find housing, or even qualify for public benefits,
[they] lose their children, their dignity, and eventually their freedom (143). Felons are
marginalized from society. They are unable to obtain resources to help themselves due to
collateral consequences. Particularly, under the category of collateral consequences, finding a
job in order to support themselves financially is a challenge. When applying for a job, felons are
usually avoided in the pool of applicants. Before they even check the box that signifies that they
are a felon, the concept of legal discrimination is applied to the surface. Alexander introduces the
strategy of the negative credential in the job market. Employers are legally allowed to
discriminate people from being employed based on criminal status and skin color. Black men
who have not committed crimes have the same chance of being rejected as those who have
committed one. Before considering on hiring, employers have a preconceived image about
black men being criminals, even if one has a clean record. The metaphor that Young uses about
the birdcage becomes parallel to one of the aspects of the collateral consequences, which is legal
discrimination in the job market. Alexander uses a boxed in analogy for a job application for
felons, and Young s metaphor of being stuck in one place, hence the birdcage being a box, aligns
with Alexander s vision. With discrimination on a criminal status towards black men, it is difficult
to find a job. Without a job, they cannot support themselves in the world because there are only so
many options. Considering that they also come out of prison with almost nothing, the societal level
they are in progresses lower as time goes on. With no money, they are unable

The Drummer Boy Of Shiloh Literary Analysis
The 1860s was a time where young boys were stripped away their youth and innocence and force
to grow up way too fast. Many battles were fought during this time period, fields were scattered
with lifeless bodies of young boys who never got to experience life. An historical fiction titled, The
Drummer Boyof Shiloh , by Ray Bradbury gives us a clear insight of a confused young boy
whose youth was ripped away from him. The story evolves around an adolescent male named

To show just how unprepared for the war boys like Joby are the author uses wild horses as a symbol
. Well, when you got a bunch of wild horses on a loose rein somewhere (pg 171) The wild horses
are interpreted as the young boys in the army. Because wild horses in real life are disorganized
and confused, the author compares the young boys dragged into the war as disorganized and
confused. The symbolization of wild and confused relates to my life due to the fact that, there
are definitely times when certain aspects adults understand are misinterpreted to me differently.
An equally important symbol recognized in this section of the book is on page 170, The
General stopped and made a little pile of winter leaves and twigs in the darkness. Twigs and
leaves can be used to make a fire. Fire can symbolize both joy regarding its brightness, but also
danger and war. The twigs and leaves can act as light leading the soldiers out of the darkness of
the battle they re about to embark upon. The battle of Shiloh, in which both Joby and the General
are about participate in can go both ways just like the twigs and leaves. It can result in extreme
destruction and danger, or can be marked as a triumphant battle for them. Certainly, the
symbolization of fire often comes in my life. The reason why is that every choice in your life can

Absolute Monarchy In America
Recently, there have been many issues and problems forming in America. The majority of the
complications are the result of the U.S. government, which is a democracy. Another kind of
government that has been around for thousands of years is an absolute monarchy, which is where
one ruler has all the power. It is often debated which system is more effective. A monarch s
authority to govern should be absolute because the interest of the state must come first, there is a
simple law process, and being feared is better than being loved. One reason why a monarch s
authority to govern should be absolute is because the interest of the state must come first. This
means that the nation as a whole is more important than the individual opinions and thoughts of the
citizens. In document number three it says, The more you grant [to the assembled people], the
more it claims... The interest of the state must come first. This quote means that people are greedy
and will take what they are given. If you award them too much freedom, they will take advantage
of it. This would compromise the success of the country. Allowing the citizens to do and take
whatever they want will leave less for the nation. (Document #3)... Show more content on

Hashimoto’S Thyroiditis, Also Called Hashimoto’S Disease
Hashimoto s Thyroiditis, also called Hashimoto s disease is an autoimmune disease in which the
body s immune system attacks the thyroid gland. It was named for the Japanese surgeon who
discovered it in 1912 The thyroid is a small butterfly shaped gland in the front of the neck. The
thyroid makes hormones called T3 and T4. These hormones regulate metabolism. The thyroidis
controlled by hormones of the pituitary gland, which is also called the master gland. It is a pea

TPO is an enzyme that plays a role in the production of thyroid hormones. However, over time,
thyroiditis causes slow and chronic cell damage leading to the development of a goiter (enlarged
thyroid) with gradual thyroid failure, and most patients will eventually develop symptoms of
hypothyroidism. Hypothyroid symptoms may include fatigue, weight gain, constipation, increased
sensitivity to cold, dry skin, depression, muscle aches and reduced exercise tolerance, and
irregular or heavy menses. (American Thyroid Association 2017). According to The National
Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, diagnosis of Hashimoto s thyroiditis
begins with a physical exam and medical history. A goiter, nodules, or growths may be found
during a physical exam, and symptoms may suggest hypothyroidism. Health care providers will
then perform blood tests to confirm the diagnosis. Diagnostic blood tests may include the TSH,
which, if above normal lab values, means a patient has hypothyroidism. Blood tests also include
T4, which is the amount of thyroid hormone in the blood. In hypothyroidism, the blood lab values
are lower than normal. The anti thyroid antibody tests look for presence of thyroid autoantibodies.
Most people with Hashimoto s disease have these antibodies; however, hypothyroidism isn t always

Analysis Of Herbert Marcuse s One Dimensional Man
Herbert Marcuse, a Frankfurt philosopher, wrote his book One Dimensional Man in the 1960 s
during at the height of the Cold War. The book One Dimensional Man was both influential and
highly critical of modern industrial capitalism and as Marcuse believed, its subsequent exploitation
of people and nature, as well as its contribution to modern consumer culture and new forms of
social control. One Dimensional Man offers an analysis of the new state of consumerism during the
1960 s through a critical lens. This essay will focus on One Dimensional Man as I explore his view

However, he never addresses what the standards are for defining what is true and false. He also
argues that it is the individual who must ultimately decide this, but at the same time, the
individual does not have the mental capacity to do so (Marcuse, H. 1968). This development of
false needs results in one dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to
think critically is compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion,
critic and independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent
thought is becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. The ability for those within
an advanced industrial society to reason between two dimensions (Marcuse, H. 1968), in other
words, to look at an industrial society characterised by labour and waste while still
acknowledging technological progress, and to imagine a form of living that uses technology to
aid nature rather than perpetuate poverty and oppression within the society. Why do false needs
exist? they are a means of making money. Consumers think they are free to choose what product
they want to purchase, Marcuse calls this deceptive liberty (Marcuse, H. 1968, p.9). The façade
of liberty to choose what to do and buy. It is deceptive because people are greatly influenced by
this new consumer culture and may not even realize it. Therefore, it is

The Salem Witch Trials Of 1692 And The Salem Witch Trials
According to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Everyone is entitled in full equality to a
fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in determination of his rights and
obligations and of any criminal charge against him (UN General Assembly, 1948). But history has
demonstrated that even though as human you are entitled to a fair trial, you are not entitled to
justice. Throughout history, many reforms and movements have forged our judicial system, the
judicial system currently is undeniably more foolproof than it was before the 1900s. Even though
the system has improved in numerous ways by laws and amendments such as the 6th amendment in
1791, but history repeats itself. The SalemWitch Trials of 1692 and the Scottsboro BoysTrials are
embodiments of this saying, they may have happened 240 years apart but have many things in
common. Some things these trials have in common are insufficient evidence, unfair chances, and
long term effects on the victims and community. In the Salem Witch Trials, evidence of someone
being a witch was often miniscule, individuals were determined as witches by suspicion, weird
behaviors and association, two little girls were pressured into accusing 3 individuals of witchcraft
because they were said to be acting supernatural by doctors (Blumberg, 2007). Similar to the
Scottsboro Boys Trials because the ladies were pressured into falsely accusing nine black

Characteristics Of Successful Business Leader
There is no perfect skill set for a successful business owner and the cookie cutter approach some
people take is wrong. Businesses vary, and as a result, the skills needed to own and run them vary
also. With that, there are some general traits that successful business leader should have.
1. Optimism:
You must be an optimist because, at some point, you have to see beyond the hard times to see the
better times. Optimism and confidence tend to go together. You, as the businessowner, must be able
to make it through the tough times because you have hope on getting better.
2. Able To Sacrifice:
Being in the bottom spot on the totem pole is something that you are going to encounter as owner.

Most people start a business for self employment as they can t get along with their boss.
5. Common Sense:
As a successful business leader, you need to have the ability to anticipate problems and take steps
to prevent them. Successful businesses look to outsiders like there are rarely any problems. What
they don t see is a business owner that is keeping his/her finger on the pulse of the business and the
industry. When they anticipate changes coming, they take steps to prepare their business in case it
comes about. That preparation and willingness to change can make the difference between success
and failure. Done well and it s just about invisible to anyone except the business owner.
6. Be Organized:
Being organized is a major problem to most of the business leaders. In case you can not handle
various things at the same time, then you shouldn t go into business for yourself. There is NEVER
just one thing going on when you own business. There are customer problems; there are vendor
/supplier problems, and there are competition problems. As a business owner, you have to be able
to quickly know and understand which problems need attention first. You have to be able to
prioritize your problems and know that those same priorities may change on a moments notice.
7. Be a Leader:
People, especially your employees will always be looking to you for answers. Answers about your
products, your market, your competition and just about everything else. As the

Editing Time and Space in Movie Making
Citizen Kane (1941)
The manipulation of time and space in the film of citizen cane is different from that of Pulp Fiction
in that it considers formal elements of film technique such as Mise en scene where it essentially
involves a costume, setting and makeup staging and lighting (Belton, 46). The very important scene
that happens in front of the camera appears in the final shot of the film. The setting function of the
film has highlighted the key aspect of Kane s life compared to Pulp Fiction that is seen to intersect

This is because the editor has been able to create something in the movie that cannot be filmed by
the use of various techniques in order to show the change of time visibly. These techniques give

The film of Pulp Fiction is a good example of manipulation of time and space. Quentin Tarantino

the mysterious briefcase and the small criminals (Belton, 46). This has presented the film in a

Government Surveillance Of The United States
Over the past few years, government surveillance in the United States has become a widely
debated issue with two completely different sides. The National Security Agency, a government
agency known for it s efforts in spying and surveillance, has been at the center of this issue since it
s founding in the 1950 s. The Cold War had just begun and the United Statesgovernment was doing
anything they could to find potential terrorists and communists. In fact, many famous people
including Einstein were being spied on by the government to find citizens with potential ties to
the Soviet Union. (New York Times New Details Emerge from the Einstein Files; How the FBI
Tracked His Phone Calls and His Trash) As the cold war came to an end in the early 90 s, NSA
spying seemed to come to an end as well. However, their efforts stepped up significantly after the
terror attacks that occurred on 9/11. After 9/11, the government was on high alert for anybody that
could be a potential terrorist. The NSA quickly began spying on foreigners suspected of being
involved in terrorist activities or associating with potential terrorists. (Wikipedia Mass Surveillance

Argumentative Essay On Homeland Security
America has been on edge about protecting both its country and the citizens in it ever since 9/11
occurred. We have developed a more strict security line with the placement of Homeland security.
We also tested our limits to make sure that terrorism in this country would no longer become a
threat to U.S citizens; little did we know that our efforts to prevent the inevitable would only last a
short time. Now that the U.S has eliminated its central threat Osama Bin Laden leader of the Al
Qaeda terrorist group in the Middle East, another issue has created nothing but chaos and has
further split the foreign relations between the U.S and the Middle East. Furthermore, a new
extremist group called ISIS which stands for Islamic State of Iraq and

Can Dogs Make You Happier
#3
How can Dogs Make You Happier, or is it healthier? That is the first difference between a media
article and the scientific article. While the media article created from the scientific report, small
differences are put into place that infers different conclusions. In reading the scientific article, the
reader is always aware of strong correlation but is also cognizant that proof of dogs improving
human health is not available. In reading the media article it is inferred that the theory has been
proved. Seeing the difference between the two pieces has given me a heightened sense of
awareness and skepticism in what media articles are delivering as truth.
The scientific article titled Domestic Dogs and Human Health: An Overview is an article ... Show

The first disclaimer is the difference in the title and the first sentence. The title How a Dog s Life
can Make you Happier is starkly contrasted to the first sentence which refers to dogs improving
health. Personally, health and happiness are related but very different. The media article is not all
bad. Time is taken to include that walking the dogs may contribute to the increased health of the
owner. However, it implies that increased health will always come. After reading the scientific
article it is known that fact is not true. In fact owning a dog can cause issues for the disabled
creating unwanted social situations, this can affect their health. On a different note, I do believe
that the article, generally speaking, does not fail in relating to the scientific article. As mentioned
earlier it does imply correlation is not causation, which is important. Even if the rest of the article
distracts from that point, the majority of the article points towards the idea that dogs do help with
health. The information picked from the science article reveals that health can be related to owning
a dog. Quotations from scientists are used to give it merit. In reality what would give this article its
merit is cited scientific reports and mentioning the limitations of individual statements in ways that
the scientific article succeeds. Such as indicating

Family Systems Therapy And Structural Family Therapy
Historically, the field of social work and its practitioners have been concerned with the welfare of
families and their functioning. When dysfunction is present, families often seek guidance through
family therapy, which has become a strengths based approach to intervention that emphasizes
families resiliency and capacity to solve their problems. Within familypractice, practitioners
implement diverse theoretical approaches and practice models, which function as a foundation for
family assessment and intervention methods. This paper seeks to explicate two family intervention
models, Bowen family systems therapy and structural family therapy, and utilize the most effective
approach to develop a treatment plan for a family seeking therapy.
Family Intervention Models
Bowen Family Systems Therapy Rooted in systems theory, Murray Bowen s Bowen family systems
therapy acknowledges the family as a multigenerational emotional system (Nichols, 2013). This
model perceives the family as an interconnected network of emotional reactivity that shapes family
dynamics and interaction patterns. Bowen proposed eight interlocking concepts to elucidate
familial patterns: differentiation of self, triangles, nuclear family emotional system, family
projection process, multigenerational transmission process, emotional cutoff, sibling position, and
societal emotional process (Nichols, 2013). It also views families through an individual and
collective lens, assessing how members emotionally driven

How The Interior Layout And Features Such As The Altar And...
Among other world faiths, Christianity is the largest religion in the world. The religion follows
the teachings of Jesus Christ and a derivation from Judaism. These individuals who follow the
teachings of Christ believe the words of the Bible because it is the word of God. The Sabbath or
the day of rest is an important part of the Christian faith and is usually practiced during Sundays. In
this essay, I am going to critically analyse the interior layout and features such as the altar and the
font of a historic parish church and relate them to the foundations of Christianity.
The church or ekklesia in Greek is the central part of the Christian worship and where the
believers of Christ pray and understand the Bible s teachings. For Christians, attending the
church or being a part of the local congregation gives them a sense of social belonging or a way
of expanding their religious circle (Morrison, no date). The church can also be a haven for those
individuals who are searching for spiritual safety where their beliefs are not being ridiculed or
questioned by those who are around them. The church although considered by those who are not
religious as a building of worship or just a building itself is a fundamental part of Christianity and
has a special meaning because it tells individuals that they believe in the teachings and words of
Jesus Christ (Morrison, no date).
The church in the contemporary society is often considered as a building; however, it also contains

Analysis Of Rough Justice By Michael Fay
Vu Tran
Essay
Rough Justice is it Worth It?
Michael Fay, caned for vandalism and was beaten in Singapore. This incident sparked a debate
whether it was right or wrong. Tough Justice and Time to Assert American Values was two articles
that express their thoughts about the Michael Fay incident. After carefully analyzing the two texts,
the reader realizes that the article Rough Justice has the most relevant and sufficient article to
support it because the way the author uses logical appeals and facts. To start off, Time to Assert
American Values , by New York Times, the author tries to convince the reader that what happened
to Michael Fay was wrong and that Singapore way of punishment is cruel and eccentric. In the
article, the main argument was shown in this quote People who were misfits in their own society
because they believed, among other things, that it was wrong to punish pilferage with hanging or
crimes of any sort with torture ( New York Times 180). New York Times claims that people in the
U.S should stand up for what happened to Michael Fay because as Americans we stand up for cruel
actions and torture. The author uses Empirical evidence to sum up the American beliefs. In this
article most of the evidence continues to be more opinionated and a generalization of How
America feels. For example While this country cannot dictate to the government of Singapore, no
one should fail to exhort it to behave mercifully ( New York Times 180). Most of the

It is used about three times a week until the patient s depression wears away (usually within six to

from one session per week to one session every few months.
It is found that antidepressant medication or a mood stabilizing medication are also consumed by
patient undergoing ECT.
In the past, a sine wave was used to administer electricity in a constant, high dose. However,
studies have found that a brief pulse of electricity applied at frequent interval is less likely to cause
memory loss.
The patient wakes up after few minutes of the procedure with some dizziness (anesthetic effects)

Vagus nerve stimulation
Introduction
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) is an adjunctive treatment for certain types of intractable epilepsy

Despite FDA approval, VNS remains a controversial treatment for depression because the studies
have not shown the promising outcome.

Arlington County Giftedness
Arlington County does an excellent job adhering to most of Moon s 9 points:
1.The definition for Arlington County goes with what the state and federal government adheres to
and bases its assessments on the most current possible manner. They recognize the diversity by
putting the information in all different languages. In addition,
The Office of Gifted Services reflects this philosophy and complies with Virginia Regulations
Governing Educational Services for Gifted Students based on the following concepts:
a.Giftedness is developmental; it is potential which must be nourished.
b.Gifted students share some characteristics with all other children.
c.There is variability among the gifted.
2.Arlington county Public Schools test everyone for giftedness and they can be identified any year.

This was eye opening to me since it details every test and the year to be given. I had no idea that
all of this information was out there. I did find it interesting that they did not give any cut off
scores. I am assuming it is due to the fact of the validation of the test.
3.I know for a fact that the SOLs which is one of the standardized assessments that Arlington
County looks at for gifted education, is validated and normed every year. In Earth Science there is a
different cut off score to pass/pass advanced every year depending upon the test. Also, because there
are so many different versions of the tests the scores (which are computerized) do not come back
instantaneously until enough students in the state have taken that

Socrates Self Confidence
Socrates was a philosopher in c. 470 BCE c. 399 BCE. He was a pioneer in an education method,
which focused on discovering answers by asking question from his students. Charleston College,
2018 pointed out that Socrates believed that the disciplined practice of thoughtful questioning
enable the student/scholar to examine ideas and be able to determine the validity of those ideas
The focus point of the Socratic Thought, is to challenges student to feel confident and worth of
question what is validated and accepted as norms. One of the strength of Socratic Thought was and
as is today, in not just accepted what is stablished, is to go deeply under the surface and analyzing
reasons, consequences and the impact that those assumption make to group and individuals (Alain
de Bottom 2013). Is very clever the name of the documentary SocratesSelf Confidence , and if the
name is staking to a more serious level, anyone that questioning the norms and rule of what is

progress in its overseas operations by following the efficient trade practices. These commercial

  • 2. The Implementation Of The New Standard Rule As many know revenue is the amount of money that a company receives during a specific period /time. However revenue recognition is slightly different, it is an accounting principle under GAAP that determines the specific conditions of when revenue is recognized or accounted for. Since many believe that the standard was in need for improvement, on August 12, 2015 the FASB issued an Accounting Standards Update. The update based on the board s decision decided that public organizations should apply the new revenue recognition to annual reports beginning after December 15, 2017. It is said that the new standard is major achievement for the Boards in improving this financial standard. The purpose of the new standard is to establish principles... He shows different traits that make him different things such as the tragic figure, the hero, and even the villain. Troy Maxson s personality and the way he presents himself changes throughout the playto transform him into completely different people. A tragic figure is someone who is noble or wholesome that does something that leads to their inevitable demise. Troy fits this profile. He especially shows this when he tries to show off to his wife by talking about how great he is at baseball. Selkirk! That s it! Man batting .269, understand? .269. What kind of sense that make? I was hitting .432 with thirty seven home runs! Man batting .269 and playing right field for the Yankees! (1159). • 4. Corporate Tax And Corporate Income Tax Introduction I believe that there should be corporate income tax, as it acts as a user fee for the special privileges (Rosen, Ch 19) corporations receive. The corporate income tax is a separate tax on corporate income, in which varies in a bracket between ten percent and thirty five percent. The effective corporate income taxrate is estimated at thirty two percent, and eighteen percent for non corporations. Workers compensation, labor expenses, interest payments, and depreciation are tax deductible from taxable income. Since corporations sell stock to stockholders, those stockholders purchased a certain percentage of the corporation. In turn, purchasing a portion of the corporate liability. If a stockholder accumulates income within the corporation in which he holds stock shares, he reduces his tax liability. Although the shareholder s additional income would eventually be taxed, his stock will grow at the before tax rate of interest. This benefits the corporation and the shareholders, as neither party holds the entire liability, nor do the shareholders pay debt if the corporation is not generating profit. Corporate income taxalso preserves the integrity of personal income tax. I believe that there should be corporate income tax, as the lack there of could create potential opportunities for personal tax avoidance (Rosen, Ch 19). Summary Of Valmiki s Ramayana Zana Gankhuyag Prof Vivek Narayanan ENGH 316 31 Mar 2017 Midterm Essay Valmiki s Ramayana has transcended being simply a folktale, and has manifested itself into an embodiment of virtues. It has great influence over the expectation of a women in the society; the status and the ideal itself has been conferred upon them by the Ramayana which depict Sita as the ideal wife worthy of being emulated by Hindu women. There is a similar, recurring pattern that seems to unfold for any women depicted in the Ramayana who actively stray beyond this idea model. In the earliest, full narrative, when Indra comes disguised as her husband, Ahalya sees through his disguise, but consents owing to her curiosity . In another interpretation, Ahalya s pride in her beauty compels her to continue, but in both cases she doesn t deny her impulses and consciously acts on it. In each of their respective narratives, the three women share a moment where they fall from grace , and part from their virtues. In the Ramayana, physical beauty is so intimately correlated to holiness and godliness. For example, when Rama is being described, there is extraordinary amount of detail and attention given to the description of his appearance; sentences on sentences just about the statuesque form of Rama s arms. It is undeniable that physical appearance is a direct mirror of the character s inner disposition. The women are originally described as having unparalleled beauty. It s only when they part from what is considered virtuous, do they transform and lose their physical appeal. The meeting I attended took place outside on a Saturday afternoon at Magnolia Park in Garden Grove, California. It is an open group tag meeting, where one speaker will tag another person to share and welcome for anyone to attend. It was very easy to locate the meeting, as it was right in front of the park s only parking lot with members sitting in a circle on benches and lawn chairs. Industrialization is a starting point for many of the technologies and factories around and exists today, despite the negative influences of the industrialization, people gained many benefits from it too. For example, because of the industrialization workers are more efficient producing goods and products, also industrialization helped many people walked out of the countryside which broadens their perspectives. For many countries, industrialization is a voluntary movement within the country, but as an exception, China s industrialization is forced due to the barbarism action from Britain, France and many other countries. • 13. The Terrorist Turn Adopted By Eta However, the terrorist turn adopted by ETA was not an effective strategy to have their voice heard in a democracy. As argued by Furlow and Goodall, a way to understand the political rhetoric of any extremist group is to analyse their core narrative techniques. Linking enemies to historical villains of the past is a common strategy for extremist groups to justify their actions. Reminding the historical repression of the Basque identity is actually the strategy adopted by ETAto justify its actions. Such as strategy turns out to be inefficient in democratic Spain. At first, the heavy repression undertaken by the Franco government boosted ETA s support not only in the Basque country but also internationally. The main strategies of ETA were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Franco Government answered by sentencing death penalty to any person found guilty, but this practice only strengthened international support for ETA, which was compared to national liberation movements (Alonso, 2011). As Spain was on the verge of democratization, ETA experienced profound changes in its internal structure. In 1974, ETA was divided into two groups, a military one (ETA m) and a political military one (ETA pm). ETA m, the minority group, wanted to stick with use of violence only while ETA pm was advocating that armed struggle should be coupled with popular mobilization (de la Calle and Sanchez Cuenca, 2013). The repression faced during the dictatorship along with the determinant role played by ETA in the opposition to the dictatorship encouraged the democratic government to recognize the particularities of the Basque identity. After passing an amnesty law for all ETA prisoners in 1977, the Government granted the status of autonomy to the region. The Basque Country now had a Basque Parliament, a Basque Government, their own education and health system, their own fiscal system as well as their own police force. As a result, Basque history and language were inserted in school curriculum and Basque newspapers emerged. But ETA wanted independence. The group thus radicalized killing civil guards, businessmen, parliamentarians, judges and prosecutors, journalists, university professors but also civilians in car bombing attacks. The technology community has worked hard to bring useful technology into our classrooms, all with good intentions to broaden our knowledge. With these good intentions also came about unwanted side effects such as distraction and disruption in the classroom. I can clearly remember many of my teachers yelling at us to put our cell phones, iPods, and iTouch phones away especially during lecture and exams. With these technological distractions it has become more and more difficult to be successful in a learning environment. It is certainly a near impossible task to learn a difficult lesson and also be texting away on a cell phone or Facebook. These same devices that can enhance our learning can also backfire and detract from it. The same technology that allows teachers some benefit, professors also find a nuisance. The mobile phones that have basically become mobile computers are considered a major distraction because of the silent ringers, e mails, and instant messages that interrupt us constantly while we are in class. Distraction is not the only worry to the teachers in classrooms worldwide; technology has also made cheating more easily. Stephanie Dunnewind states her point of view in Internet Creates New Opportunities for Cheating, but Also Learning that More than three quarters of public school students admitted to cheating on an exam in the past year, either by copying, using crib notes or helping another student. Some students justify dishonesty as a fairness issue (113). What breaks the heart even more is knowing that there are collateral consequences that follow these ex prisoners throughout the rest of their life. Those who come out of the incarcerated system struggle to get back on their feet due to discrimination. Marginalization of felons can be found anywhere specifically in jobs, housing, and even in debt that they cannot afford. Iris Marian Young introduces the birdcage metaphor, where one wire of the cage represents racism. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Simply, being labeled a felon restricts the individual from several aspects in life. Alexander states that they are unable to drive, get a job, find housing, or even qualify for public benefits, [they] lose their children, their dignity, and eventually their freedom (143). Felons are marginalized from society. They are unable to obtain resources to help themselves due to collateral consequences. Particularly, under the category of collateral consequences, finding a job in order to support themselves financially is a challenge. When applying for a job, felons are usually avoided in the pool of applicants. Before they even check the box that signifies that they are a felon, the concept of legal discrimination is applied to the surface. Alexander introduces the strategy of the negative credential in the job market. Employers are legally allowed to discriminate people from being employed based on criminal status and skin color. Black men who have not committed crimes have the same chance of being rejected as those who have committed one. Before considering on hiring, employers have a preconceived image about black men being criminals, even if one has a clean record. The metaphor that Young uses about the birdcage becomes parallel to one of the aspects of the collateral consequences, which is legal discrimination in the job market. Alexander uses a boxed in analogy for a job application for felons, and Young s metaphor of being stuck in one place, hence the birdcage being a box, aligns with Alexander s vision. With discrimination on a criminal status towards black men, it is difficult to find a job. Without a job, they cannot support themselves in the world because there are only so many options. This development of false needs results in one dimensional thought and behaviour where the ability for individuals to think critically is compromised. This lack of critical thinking results in a flattening of discussion, critic and independence. What Marcuse is ultimately saying is that the capacity for independent thought is becoming blurred with the influence of consumer culture. But history has demonstrated that even though as human you are entitled to a fair trial, you are not entitled to justice. The setting function of the film has highlighted the key aspect of Kane s life compared to Pulp Fiction that is seen to intersect in many venues (Belton, 37). Cinematography has been used in the process of capturing the moving images and the manipulation of such images (Belton, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is because the editor has been able to create something in the movie that cannot be filmed by the use of various techniques in order to show the change of time visibly. These techniques give the editor a chance to give a different effect and be able to create something totally different to the film. The use of technique shows people an object change or the environment of an object change of a certain period of time such as a person acting in the film such as getting older or younger (Belton, 57). The film of Pulp Fiction is a good example of manipulation of time and space. Quentin Tarantino directed an iconic film that was filled with humor and violence as well as a nonlinear storyline. The art of the techniques is used to connect the interconnecting storylines of the mobster, fringe players, the mysterious briefcase and the small criminals (Belton, 46). This has presented the film in a chronological manner as a result of its unconventional structure, the extensive used of homage and the pictures of self reflexity. The holdup stage dinner starts the film in where the technique of time and space is used in order to pick up the story of Jules, Vincent, and Butch (Belton, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. Government Surveillance Of The United States Over the past few years, government surveillance in the United States has become a widely debated issue with two completely different sides. The National Security Agency, a government agency known for it s efforts in spying and surveillance, has been at the center of this issue since it s founding in the 1950 s. The Cold War had just begun and the United Statesgovernment was doing anything they could to find potential terrorists and communists. In fact, many famous people including Einstein were being spied on by the government to find citizens with potential ties to the Soviet Union. (New York Times New Details Emerge from the Einstein Files; How the FBI Tracked His Phone Calls and His Trash) As the cold war came to an end in the early 90 s, NSA spying seemed to come to an end as well. However, their efforts stepped up significantly after the terror attacks that occurred on 9/11. After 9/11, the government was on high alert for anybody that could be a potential terrorist. The NSA quickly began spying on foreigners suspected of being involved in terrorist activities or associating with potential terrorists. (Wikipedia Mass Surveillance in the United States) Soon after this, they started intercepting phone conversations and even internet traffic through a program known as PRISM. This program was kept secret for quite a while until NSA contractor Edward Snowden leaked thousands of documents to reporters. (PBS How Edward Snowden Leaked Thousands of NSA Documents) While ... We have developed a more strict security line with the placement of Homeland security. We also tested our limits to make sure that terrorism in this country would no longer become a threat to U.S citizens; little did we know that our efforts to prevent the inevitable would only last a short time. Now that the U.S has eliminated its central threat Osama Bin Laden leader of the Al Qaeda terrorist group in the Middle East, another issue has created nothing but chaos and has further split the foreign relations between the U.S and the Middle East. While the media article created from the scientific report, small differences are put into place that infers different conclusions. In reading the scientific article, the reader is always aware of strong correlation but is also cognizant that proof of dogs improving human health is not available. In reading the media article it is inferred that the theory has been proved. Seeing the difference between the two pieces has given me a heightened sense of awareness and skepticism in what media articles are delivering as truth. The first disclaimer is the difference in the title and the first sentence. The title How a Dog s Life can Make you Happier is starkly contrasted to the first sentence which refers to dogs improving health. Personally, health and happiness are related but very different. The media article is not all bad. Time is taken to include that walking the dogs may contribute to the increased health of the owner. However, it implies that increased health will always come. After reading the scientific article it is known that fact is not true. In fact owning a dog can cause issues for the disabled creating unwanted social situations, this can affect their health. On a different note, I do believe that the article, generally speaking, does not fail in relating to the scientific article. As mentioned earlier it does imply correlation is not causation, which is important. Even if the rest of the article distracts from that point, the majority of the article points towards the idea that dogs do help with health. The information picked from the science article reveals that health can be related to owning a dog. Quotations from scientists are used to give it merit. In reality what would give this article its merit is cited scientific reports and mentioning the limitations of individual statements in ways that the scientific article succeeds. • 40. Family Systems Therapy And Structural Family Therapy Historically, the field of social work and its practitioners have been concerned with the welfare of families and their functioning. When dysfunction is present, families often seek guidance through family therapy, which has become a strengths based approach to intervention that emphasizes families resiliency and capacity to solve their problems. Within familypractice, practitioners implement diverse theoretical approaches and practice models, which function as a foundation for family assessment and intervention methods. This paper seeks to explicate two family intervention models, Bowen family systems therapy and structural family therapy, and utilize the most effective approach to develop a treatment plan for a family seeking therapy. Family Intervention Models Bowen Family Systems Therapy Rooted in systems theory, Murray Bowen s Bowen family systems therapy acknowledges the family as a multigenerational emotional system (Nichols, 2013). This model perceives the family as an interconnected network of emotional reactivity that shapes family dynamics and interaction patterns. Bowen proposed eight interlocking concepts to elucidate familial patterns: differentiation of self, triangles, nuclear family emotional system, family projection process, multigenerational transmission process, emotional cutoff, sibling position, and societal emotional process (Nichols, 2013). It also views families through an individual and collective lens, assessing how members emotionally driven ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. How The Interior Layout And Features Such As The Altar And... Among other world faiths, Christianity is the largest religion in the world. The religion follows the teachings of Jesus Christ and a derivation from Judaism. These individuals who follow the teachings of Christ believe the words of the Bible because it is the word of God. The Sabbath or the day of rest is an important part of the Christian faith and is usually practiced during Sundays. In this essay, I am going to critically analyse the interior layout and features such as the altar and the font of a historic parish church and relate them to the foundations of Christianity. The church or ekklesia in Greek is the central part of the Christian worship and where the believers of Christ pray and understand the Bible s teachings. For Christians, attending the church or being a part of the local congregation gives them a sense of social belonging or a way of expanding their religious circle (Morrison, no date). The church can also be a haven for those individuals who are searching for spiritual safety where their beliefs are not being ridiculed or questioned by those who are around them. The church although considered by those who are not religious as a building of worship or just a building itself is a fundamental part of Christianity and has a special meaning because it tells individuals that they believe in the teachings and words of Jesus Christ (Morrison, no date). The church in the contemporary society is often considered as a building; however, it also contains ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
