A Comparison Of Nicholas And The American Restoration...
Allen Diles, in A Comparison of Nicholas of Pelhrimov and the Taborite Restoration with Alexander
Campbell and the American Restoration Movement, attempts to relate religious movements that
occurred more than four centuries apart: the Taborite Restoration and the American Restoration.
Further focus is place on the leaders of these movements, Nicholas of Pelhrimov and Alexander
Campbell. A connection between these two men is scarcely made; moreover, many students of religion
are ignorant to the existence of the Taborite Restoration and Nicholas of Pelhrimov. Diles endeavor to
connect these men and the reformation movements they were involved in was lucrative, as it
connected a semi modern movement with a little known medieval movement, but his presentation of
the connection between these movements prevents the connection from emerging in a manner as
compelling as it possibly could have. Diles composes his article in response to the neglect of the
Hussite movement, of which the Taborites formed the radical wing of, in modern times and the often
exclusion of Nicholas of Pelhrimov, an individual whom he feels was critical, when the Hussite
movement is studied. In his thesis, Diles states, Although Nicholas himself is obscure to Americans
and among scholars of the Stone Campbell Movement, the Taborite movement is rarely mentioned,
and examination of Nicholas and his movement reveals striking similarities in thought, if not in form,
between the medieval Taborite reform and that

Essay On Rhinoceros
Title: The genetic diversity of black rhinoceros (Diceros bircornis) populations in Africa. Introduction.
Despite its reputation as a powerful and invincible beast, the rhinoceros has suffered precipitous Black
rhinoceros is powerful land mammal but despite its strength and take no nonsenses attitude has
declined in number and is threatened with extinction. There are approximately 11,0000 individuals of
all five species surviving in small scattered populations throughout Africa and other Asians countries.
The black rhino has suffered the most unseen decline in numbers and disappearing faster than any

between 5,042 and 5,455 animals (according to figures published by IUCN in 2016). Genetic variation
of a population says more about the species and how a particular population of a species will survive
in a long run. Knowing the genetic variation of a species will able one to predict some of the traits in
the population for future offspring s, it can also help one to know if whether the population is evolving
or not by looking at the alleles of a population. The population which is evolving should show
changes in alleles. The importance of genetic variation is that one can know if the population

Solar Panels, Hydropower, And Wind Turbines
DISCUSSION
How Biomass Works
Solar panels, hydropower, and wind turbines are all well known renewable resources. However, one of
the most prevalent sources for energy is often overlooked. Biomass is a renewable and sustainable
energy resource that uses organic materials to generate electricity. ( Biomass Power Association. )
Biomass energy is made from any form of previously living material. This includes any animal
material or product, all vegetation, and even human waste. Scrap lumber, forest debris, crops, manure,
and even industrial wastes can all be utilized and turned into renewable energy through biomass. Often
leftover materials from factories such as paper mills are used to help sustain the renewable resource.
However, this process tends to be inefficient and unreliable (Mary, Booth), so frequently biomass
energy is instead produced by cutting down forests or converting crops such as sugar or corn into
combustible fuels. Biomass is considered a renewable resource because organic material and waste
will always exist. Whether this is through forests, crops, or animals, as long as humans inhabit the
earth there will be waste to utilize. [figure 2]
Although biomass is sometimes considered inefficient in comparison to other fuels, biomass fuels
have two strengths when compared to widely used fossil fuels. The first reason is the time difference
there is between fossil fuels and biomass. One example would be coal. In nature coal requires close to

Summary Of Some Lessons From The Assembly Line By Andrew...
Some Lessons from the Assembly Line by Andrew Braaksma is an article trying to encourage
continued education rather than a lifetime on the assembly line. Braaksma paints a picture of harsh life
behind clunky metal machine in his summers away from school. All the while pointing out his other
classmates don t understand the hard life so many have in the manufacturing. In A. Braaksma s article,
his claims of an easier life through continued education is a better option than many long, hard, and
unstable years on an assembly line because during summer months his rough working conditions
compared to a few years in a classroom, he also brings the leisured student life to not understanding a
strenuous blue collar career, and How a job on an assembly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

His summers spent behind the assembly line, while they work retail or entry level hospitality. The
students taking for granted the lifestyle, while others work rough strenuous positions in factories.
There are few things as cocksure as a college student who has never been out in the real world, and
people my age always seem to overestimate the value of their time and knowledge. (Braaksma, 17)
Here the author states the mindset of his school peers from his observations. While somewhat
agreeing with him. It still strikes me that some of his peers do work very hard at their summer jobs. I
think he comes across closed minded to the stresses they might actually come across in a restaurant
sell out or 4th of July blowout sale. Braaksma could have stated his evidence in a different tone as to
not alienate readers whom are working retail or hospitality jobs.
While, harsh as blue collar life may seem, the author also states his time on the assembly line is just as
much a learning experience as his time in school. The struggles of finding work when he loses a job
due to closures or downsizing. Observing others whom have spent 30 years working the lines. Also,

Importance Of Learning Computers
What is a computer and why it is essential to learn about computers today?
A computer can be defined as a machine that manipulates data according to a list of instructions
(Oxford). According to Webster dictionary a computer is defined as a programmable usually electronic
device that can store, retrieve, and process data (Merriam Webster). Whether it be a laptop, desk top,
tablet or phone, it is essential to learn about computers in order to function in the 21st century.
Computers are found everywhere in society. They make locating and processing data much easier and
efficient. Computers allow entities such as hospitals or businesses to process information rapidly with
the click of a button. Computers allow information to be transferred from one city to another in an
instant. The internet, phone, watch, printer and even some homecare are all run by a computer.
If someone in today s society does not understand how to operate the computer they more than likely
will not be able to maintain a job, or even complete basic functions within our society. Computers are
essential items in today s culture and used worldwide as a tool for effective communication and
processing of data.
Health Care Technology
Computers and health care have worked hand in hand for many years but within the last 10 years the
increase in the use of computer technology has catapulted healthcare into the 21st century. The use of

Pros And Cons Of Random Locker Searches

think that conducting random locker searches is a bad idea because it is an invasion of privacy, breaks
the fourth amendment, and will cause distrust in students. If we conduct random locker searches all
privacy will be lost. The students of this school need to have at least a little bit of privacy where no
one else gets to look at. Secondly, it breaks the fourth amendment. The fourth amendment states that

why we should not have random locker searchers is that it will cause distrust in students. Many

Essay The Current Status of Medical Marijuana
In the year 2008, Michigan voted in the use of marijuana for medical purposes. I will be exploring two
papers, the first is Prohibition Works: Keeping Marijuana Illegal, the second is Legalization of
Marijuana. In the paper Prohibition Works the author discusses numerous reasons marijuana should be
kept illegal, and the second paper Legalization of Marijuana the author makes many valid points on
why marijuana should be legalized for medical use. Michigan now joins 15 other states that have
passed laws for consumption of marijuana for medical purposes. Both marijuana and medical
marijuana are the same substance. In this paper I will discuss how the federal government views the

time distortion, anxiety, depression random thoughts, and memory loss. There is also withdrawal in
some patients can include: appetite loss, anxiety, depression, and aggression (Amal Chakraburtty,
2010). These side effects hold true to users of marijuana whether they use it legally with the medical
marijuana card or if they are using this drug without the medical marijuana card.
The federal government does not seem to be changing their laws when it comes to marijuana. Andre
Kratzer makes reference to some doctors that believe marijuana is good for pain reduction, it can
increase appetite, and calms down nausea (Kratzer, 2004). Even though some of the side effects are
negative doctors look at the negatives and positives and weigh them out. If the positive effects are
more of a benefit than the negative then they will suggest medical marijuana for that patient. The list
for benefits of marijuana include but are not limited to cancer patients being treated with
chemotherapy, AIDS patients that have lost their appetite, it is also said to be helpful in the relief of
pain for MS patients, along with helping to slow the progression of glaucoma. However, doctors that
are against the use of marijuana look at the bad side effects and decide that there is no medical

Sexual Identity Exploration And Commitment

Could their name be of English, Polish, or Russian origin. Well, the name Daniel has an origin of
ancient Babylon. The city of Babylon was the best known city from the ancient ruins of Mesopotamia.

Role Of Investment And Commercial Banks Play On The Global...
Introduction: This paper will examine the roles that investment and commercial banks play in creating
and predicting systemic risk in the global economy. This topic is of particular relevance due to the
events that unfolded in the economic sphere nearly a decade ago during the financial crisis of 2007
2008. Our study will provide a detailed rendering of the crisis, outlining each of the key factors that
contributed to the crash in an attempt to gain a better understanding of what happened and how to
avoid similar events from unfolding in the future. Much of our study hinges on the role of banks on
the markets and their influence over global systemic risk. In order to establish a link between bank
prices and economic trends, we will focus our analysis on one key metric, Value at Risk (VaR). A
powerful statistical measurement, VaR is used to assess a firm s potential loss over a certain period of
time. To generate a diversified and complete quantitative analysis, our calculation will incorporate
pricing data from January 1st, 2000 to November 30th, 2016 of eleven of the most prevalent banks in
the US financial system: Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Citi Bank, Credit Suisse, Deutsche
Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JP Morgan, Royal Bank of Canada, UBS, and Wells Fargo. Our aim is
to establish a predictive correlation between the historical performance of these banks and the markets
in order to avoid downturns such as the financial crisis of 2007 08 from happening in the

Weakness Of The Constitution By Louis Seidman
The Constitution The Constitution, that has been used to govern this country over the last 200 years
has become ineffective and out dated. The constitution can no longer serve the purpose it was
designed adequately. Weakness to modern society and strong resistance to change has made this
country almost immune to change. Louis Michael Seidman, a Carmack Water House Professor of
Constitutional law at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C. suggest that the
Constitution is no longer useful for the modern day society because the constitution is old fashioned.
Seidman points out some of the out dated and dysfunctional systems implemented by the constitution,
such as revenue measure must originate in the lower chamber and the fact that the political system
keeps people from debating the merits of divisive issues. Seidman also points out the strong obedience
people have to the constitution, which creates a strong resistance to change. Although Seidman

The Soviet Union Of The 19th Century
The Beginning
The idea of having the RSFSR as a enemy towards the Soviet Union at the time of the 19th century
was one of the biggest reasons why the Soviet Union took such a big downfall when it collapsed. The
RSFSR was a opposing group that was branched off from the Soviet Union, resulting from a argument
over political standings and power for both groups.1 The RSFSR wanted a representative to stand
during the meetings of the Soviet Union, however the Soviet Union did not grant that because the
representative did not win in the voting, but candidate that was favored by the USSR won. The
RSFSR was one of the main reasons why the Soviet Union had collapsed by the end of the 19th
century, including a number of other factors as well. Despite the grudges, the Soviet Union and the
RSFSR were both branched together at one point. That point didn t last very long, but starting from
the beginning, the Soviet Union rose to its power throughout the 20th century.
The rise of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union was officially established during December during the year of 1922, with the union
of the Soviet republics from Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, and Transcaucasia, which were all each
ruled by local Bolshevik parties. The foundation of the Soviet state where a federal entity of many
republics that were constituent, each with its own political and administrative entities, was applied

The Characteristics Of Grammar And Grammar In The Arabic...
PHONOLOGY AND SYLLABLE
The syllable and grammar for the second era are subject to be studied in commensuration with the
phonology of the Arabic language in a multi linguistic scenario of community. This is due to the fact
that most of the communications at the regional level are oral by nature. Thus, the features of grammar
and syllable cannot be ignored. It has been identified by Kahn (1976) that a mere hypothetical word
atkin is not used and identified in English but without a syllable. The arrangements of the letters
neither assumed later and former use of letters. But, there is a central place exists in few words; such
as, Caltex . Because of this, such types of words are not found easily in the English literature because
of the placement and arrangements of the letters in the word. The next matter of consideration is the
segmental phonology rules; assimilation, length, neutralization, affrication, use of consonant and
vowels. These rules are considered in alignment with the syllables of the word. A Syllable can use the
segmental phonology rules; thus, the element of pharyngealization is observed rather than the use of
other rules and practices. Moreover, the elements of rules are determined through the use of various
functions; hence, there is obstruent exist in English which are the factors talk about the placement of
the letter or the word. Lastly, the element of oral use and breaks of words is assumed as the innate
centrifugal phenomenon of Arabic language in

Democracy Hinders Growth And Its Effect On Economic...
Some scholars have argued that democracy hinders growth as a result of a collective action problem,
while others argue it is the democratic institutions constraining government, and providing individual
property rights which allows for economic growth (Montesquieu, 1748; Smith, 1776; Buchanan and
Tullock, 1962; North and Thomas, 1973; North, 1981, 1990; Hall and Jones, 1999; Easterly and
Levine, 2003; Rodrik, 2007). The former approach focuses on the role of leadership in a
nondemocratic regime, specifically in how a good leader can affect the economic development in a
region. The latter approach focuses on how investor risk aversion that results from the lack of property

The notion goes back to de Tocqueville, but in modern form it has been revived by Barro s empirical
work (1996a and b). Finally, Wintrobe (1998) argues that the authoritarian elite successfully rules by
repressing some in the population while nurturing the loyalty of others. Similarly, the threat of a
rebellion by the opposition compels the dictator to share rents in Gandhi and Przeworski (2006).
The literature on rent seeking suggests a means by which alternatives to collective action can insulate
state actors from societal interests (Mares, 1993: 457). Rent creation implies rent distribution, creating
incentives for rent seeking in the domestic economy; even efficient firms will devote resources either
to capture the rents or to lobby for their elimination (Buchanan, p.35). Bates work on Africa
demonstrates that, rather than simply buying off societal opposition, state actors can distribute rents to
build supportive policy coalitions (1981). A second way for state actors to build a winning policy
coalition is to help potential supporters of state preferences overcome barriers to collective action
through their power to tax and regulate. Here, state actors can force would be free riders to contribute
to the provision of the collective good (Olson, 1965).

Fahrenheit 451 Mask Analysis
On the center of my art project is a mask. The mask is an a larger burn up photo of Clarisse McMellan

truly thinks about this question later after he goes into his bedroom ready to go to bed. He thinks about
the question and comes up with an answer, He was not happy... He wore his happiness like a mask and
the girl [Clarisse] had run off across the lawn with the mask and there was no way of getting it back
(12). So in this painting I thought about the mask that Clarisse had that belonged to Montag, I painted
a mask with a huge grin symbolizing Montag s happiness. He was searching for answers and
knowledge, for clarity, And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things
that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised
therewith (King James Bible Ecclesiastes 1 13). Searching for all the meanings of things and
knowledge is what eventually gave him happiness.

Third Man Corruption
The Film Noir, The Third Man , showed the evident effect that World War 2 had on people. Since this
film was produced in 1949, after World War 2, it reflected the social fears and cultural changes that
have plagued people during post war. Before the war, there was the ideology of the strong American
family. This family portrayed strong values such as happiness, hardworking, and optimism. However
during post war, there was a shade of darkness as fear, greed and evil lurking. The Third Man
portrayed the social, economic and moral corruption which reflects off the social evils during the post
war era. One example of economic corruption is shown in the Ferris Wheel Scene. In this scene, we

Their moral corruption relates back to the measures that spies had to take and the fear they installed
during the post war era/Cold War. Limes faked his own death and kills someone else to take his place.
His death caused emotional distress for people that care about him. His death caused people like
Holly, to go around the town trying to solve his murder case while leaving his mistress, Anna to be
heart broken. Limes also continues to puts innocent children into hospitals because of his diluted

performing acts of espionage to gather intel on each other. Although these spies weren t selling on the
black market, they were putting their families under emotional distress as well as possibly tearing
families apart. Despite Lime s lack of family members shown in the film, Anna and Holly were the
closest he had to family. Additionally, the paranoia of spies possibly being your next door neighbor,
installed fear into normal citizens. Knowing that spies were living among other citizens caused panic
and anxiety to many. Reciprocal to the movie, we see the discomfort and anxiety that Limes have
caused Holly. Holly runs all over the city, trying to piece together his friends death while clearing

Even more difficult is the explanation of this process in conditions of group decision making where
each individual member of a decision making unit is influenced and influence other members as well.
Motivation of single members and their rate of involvement in the purchase process can also vary
according to the rate of personal usage of the purchased product or interest in this particular buying
task for the firm. Therefore, it is necessary to take into consideration personal effects and interaction
of members within a unit and emotional motives for decision making about a purchase in

The Model of B2B Communication Effects
In the 1997 Gilliland and Johnston published a model of B2B communication effects mentioned
individual preferences influencing business buying decision and other factors which create the
dynamics of the DMU. Most of presented opinions in accessible literature presume that decision
making about organization purchase is influenced more or less by rational arguments than emotional
arguments. However, an emotional message has an essential role in forming individual attitudes,

Case Studies in IMF s Investment on the African Continent
Case Studies in IMF Investment on the African Continent Section I. Theoretical Background to Apply
to Case Studies During the height of World War II, leaders from 45 nations met in Bretton Woods,
New Hampshire, U.S. to promote international monetary cooperation through a permanent institution
which provides the machinery for consultation and collaboration on international monetary problems,
promote and facilitate the expansion and balanced growth of international trade, and to contribute
thereby to the promotion and maintenance of high levels of employment and real income and to the
development of the productive resources of all members (International Monetary Fund, Articles 2).
Further mandates included orderly and stable exchange, avoiding currency depreciation wars and to
remove hindrance to international trade caused by the immediate term ( current ) technical
complexities of currency exchange between nations. This would help recovery for European nations
lying in ruins from war and prevent a return to the depression that had emaciated the United States,
and global demand for exports, over the decade preceding World War II. Effectively, what happens is
when countries want to import goods, they either have to directly barter those for their own exports, or
first buy currency from the exporting country with which to purchase the exports. Exporting countries
often want payment in their own currency, so if the purchasing country has a reserve of the foreign

The Idea Of A Mixed Economy Of Canada
A country s economy can determine the state of the nation s future and its people. Canada s economy
is one of the largest economies on the planet. The United States of America has proposed a new
economic system for Canada to adapt which is a market economic system. The Idea of a market
economy is that individuals can set their own price for their products without the government s
intervention. This nation is globally known for equality and we have every intention to preserve that
image thereby we are to remain as a mixed economy. A mixed economy benefits the entirety of
society relative to other economic systems, as it allows you to get richer and have more power but has
regulation in place to make sure that the poor don t get to the point of starvation, and so that the rich
don t get to the point of absolute power and a defined role ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A government s involvement helps keep businesses whether big or small from drying out, which helps
regulate the economy. A mixed economy allows the individual and the government to make economic
decisions for society, and both solve the problem of scarcity. The government has power in the
economy, therefore, the economy meets the requirements of both government and its individuals.
Compared to a mixed economy a Market economy is an economy which private citizens operate and
own businesses and factories which market price is molded by supply and demand. In a market
economy, the government has little to no control of the economy. People are concerned about
gargantuan corporations running their economy making a mixed economy better as it provides
assurance to our people s welfare during economic downturns. The mixed economic system where the
government has a defined role is preferable for our nation s

International Student Retentions
Purpose
The United States leads the world in the number of international students who have chosen to study
away from their home nation (Witherell Clayton, 2014). However, other nations such as the United
Kingdom and Australia are gaining on the United States and have higher retention rates (Burkholder
Holland, 2014). Moreover, these nations have clearly defined national policies to improve the
recruitment and retention of international students, which the United States lacks (Andrade, 2006).
International students provide an abundant source of benefits, which include financial stability,
cultural awareness, and improved skills among domestic students (Luo Jamieson Drake, 2013; Owens,

International students from non Western cultures have more concerns with academics than students
from other Western cultures.
The responses were analyzed with IBM SPSS. Descriptive statistics were calculated for the first
hypothesis. The second and third hypotheses were tested with independent samples t tests. Results of
these analyses follow below.
Findings
First, international students have identified numerous concerns about their academic endeavors in the
U.S. These students found it difficult to participate in class discussions, to find others to collaborate
with, and to understand degree requirements. In contrast, classroom lectures, textbooks, and tests in
English were not as much of a concern. As expected, undergraduate students (N=19) indicated higher
levels of concern. For example, undergraduates were lower than graduate students on I find it difficult
to participate in class discussions, t(50) = 3.34, p = .002. I find it difficult to receive help from my
advisor was also significant, t(50) = 2.57, p = .013, with undergraduate students scoring lower.
Similarly, I find it difficult to receive adequate help from my professors was significantly different for
undergraduates and graduate students, t(50) = 2,47, p = .017. In every case, the undergraduate students

West Nile Encephalitis is a West Nile Virus that causes inflammation of the brain. The viral family s
name is flaviviridae and genera flavivirus (Tortora. Funke. Case, 2010, p 376). The flavivirus genome
consists of positive RNA single strand. However, the virus has acquired several mutations and
research is ongoing (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2010 p 223). West Nile virus is an arthropod borne virus
and is transmitted to human beings through the bite of infected mosquitoes. It is the leading cause of
domestically acquired arthropod borne disease in the United States. (Nicole, 2014 para.1). According
to the World Health Organization (2011), Approximately 80% of people who are infected will not
show any symptoms. However, less than 1% of the people who are infected will show severe
symptoms resulting to a serious neurological illness like encephalitis. (Center for Disease Control
(2015) West Nile Virus was first isolated in West Nile District of Uganda in 1937. In 1950 s, there was
an outbreak of West Nile Virus in Egypt and Israel. (Tortora, Funke. Case, 2010, p 223) About 50% of
children in Egypt have West Nile Virus. It is also common in the Middle East, where some suggest
that Alexander the Great died from WNE. Moreover, its effect is also in Asia and Africa. The first case

Application of the Vitalistic and Mechanistic Philosophies...
With regards to vitalism and mechanism, there lacks a distinct boundary separating these two
scientific philosophies. However, their implications and biases when slanted either particular way are
significant enough to observe. Natural history has been the subject of great debate, scrutiny, and
passion amongst many scientists from early on in biology to present times. Currently mechanism has
risen to be the dominant theory in biology, but not without hardship and deep philosophical reasoning
supported by empirical evidence. To understand these two philosophies, it s imperative to establish a
clear understanding of what each category represents. The mechanistic philosophy purports that life
operates as mechanical process governed by the fundamental physical laws provided via the universe.
This philosophy goes further in thought that there is not necessarily a designer or ultimate purpose for
the execution of life in general. In contrast, vitalist philosophy claims that there is an innate specific
quality and function that gives existence its ultimate characteristics. Folks in this line of thought tend
to argue further that there is definite design and purpose living entities, implying the existence of a
celestial super power or being that interacts making life what it is. A pronounced example of a
naturalist who conceded with this line of thought was Georges Louis Leclerc, comte de Buffon.

Pcp Research Papers
Angel dust, PeaCe pills, super grass, and zoom are all street names for Phencyclidine, or PCP for
short. If PCP is mixed with marijuana, it is known as dust blunt, happy sticks, or dippers. If PCP is
mixed with ecstasy, or also known as MDMA, then it is called elephant flipping or Pikachu. Only the
history of PCP can tell us where some of these exotic names for this drug came from. PCP was
originally developed as an anesthetic for human in the 1950 s and eventually made its way to become
a tranquilizer in veterinarian medicine (Rudgley, 1998. Karch, 1998). Eventually in 1965, the legal use
of this drug was ended due to severe side effects to the user. Despite the fact that PCP became illegal,
Clandestine laboratories manufactured and sold this drug in a pill form, which gave way to one of its
strange name known as the PeaCe Pill (Karch, 1998). A clandestine laboratory is an illegally run
operation usually by gangs to manufacture illegal drugs. By 1978 the drug became widely popular due

Dbq Reform Movements From 1825 To 1850
Throughout the years 1825 1850, reformers in America sought change and worked to get it. Through
the formation of new groups, propaganda, and books, American reformers took to supporting their
own cause. America saw many movements that sought to provide positive reformation in areas such as
temperance, slavery, government, penitentiary, and women s suffrage; and though not all of these
movements were immediately successful, they were able to expand upon democratic ideals. One
reform movement that sought change during this time period were those who believed in temperance.

Essay on The Visual Analysis of The Gleaners
The Gleaners (Des glaneuses) is an oil painting, 83.8 cm × 111.8 cm (33 in × 44 in), created by French
realist painter Jean Francois Millet in 1857. The piece of oil painting vividly depicts the nineteenth
century French rural life, with a rich flavor of harvest.
Jean Francois Millet arranges the farm as the main scene of background, and aims at three women
gleaners being bent to pick up ears of wheat. Through the observation of the painting, we can see three
peasant women occupy in the center of the screen, each bending with different angles, while their eyes
all raking down to the ground. To contrast with the distant crowd, they wear coarse clothes and clunky
wooden shoes, having robust statures. It is not appropriate to say that they ... Show more content on

As some parts of background are closer to the light source than the front, they are applied with
brighter hues, high in value. In addition, Millet places things like haystack, trees and farmhouse in the
back, and peasant women in the front. Hence. On the basis the positions of objects, the principle of
line perspective, and the relative distance to the viewer, three gleaners visually appear within a larger
proportion on the painting. In other words, the front figures sizes are bigger than the back objects .
Further more, in the painting, the Gleaners , the entire screen is filled with contrast elements. First of
all, the main figures in the front labor scene are full of rich vigor, contrasting to the background with
silent objects such as hay, trees and farmhouse. Secondly, the color brightness of the front contrast to
the back, as well as the comparison of relative sizes between figures and scenery, applying the
principle of perspective. What s more, the most classic is the horizontal line, the intersection of the
sky and the ground, contrasting with the light source, from the top left. Consequently, 2D and 3D
spatial effects are combined precisely. Meanwhile, the sense of space of the image is strengthened as
well.
For this oil painting on canvas, the painter Jean Francois Millet did use concise expression means,
instead of complex techniques. Hence,

The Variety of Games in a Casino
There are quite a bit of differences and similarities across all games that I played. First, the designs are
very similar and serve their purposes well. Each design is created with an end goal in mind. The
differences however aren t as subtle. When comparing a casino game to a retro game for instance, the
differences are vast. Interactivity is one of the key differences between quite a few of these games.
Casino games, of course depending on the type, have very little interactivity. The one I played, which
was Slots, was one such example. Make a bet and keep clicking the same button over and over again
hoping for a good turn out. The retro game on the other hand made me feel like I actually had a choice
in what I wanted to do or where I wanted to go within the game. The worlds are much more expansion
when you take this into consideration. The mobile game and online game worked pretty similar as
well as far as general features. Both support a pay to win option in order to advance your character or
team further. The differences between the two were pretty expansive. One is played in one world,
which is the exact same as all of the others but with different art depending on the stadium being
played in, the other is in a seemingly open world and focuses more on resource management and
tactical battle than scoring points. Most of the games that I played provide some sort of educational
experience though. The simulation teaches people about how life is in poverty, the educational

The Importance Of Characterization In Upton Sinclair s The...
Have you ever read a good book, and one main them stuck out throughout the entire book? In Upton
Sinclair s novel The Jungle there are many themes throughout the book. One main theme that sticks
out in the book is characterization. Characterization is how choices or actions reveal a change in their
thinking. The main character Jurgis Rudkus had the way he thinks changed at the end of the book.
Several actions and choices effected his life, but not for the better. Jurgis character was very different
at the end of the book compared to the beginning because of the actions and choices he made
throughout his life.
In the beginning of the novel Jurgis was a hardworking family man. Jurgis wanted to take care of his
new wife and was willing to work as hard as possible. When Ona realized that the bill for the
ceremony was beginning to rise she worried about how they would pay it off. Jurgis told her not to
worry that they would pay them all somehow because he will work harder. We will pay them all
somehow. I will work harder. That was always what Jurgis said. (14). Not only was Jurgis thinking
changed at the end of the novel so was his physical features. At the start of the novel Jurgis was big
guy. he with the mighty shoulders and the giant hands. (4). He was also, very strong. Jurgis could take
up a two hundred and fifty pound quarter of beef and carry it into a car without a stagger, or even a
thought (4). All this was great for Jurgis until the troubled times came.

Age Related Hearing Loss
Presbycusis The human body in itself is an incredible masterpiece, but particularly how we as humans
hear and perceive sound is amazing. Our ears are used in various aspects of life including enjoying
music, following directions, and just its use in everyday conversation. As we grow older our hearing
abilities tend to decline which can be a natural part of the aging process. Hearing loss that is
associated with older age is known as presbycusis (Huang, Q., Tang, J. , 2010). There are more people
that suffer hearing loss in their later years due to increased life expectancy (ŠESTIĆ, M. R.,

Modernism vs. Post-Modernism
Modernism sociologically, is a discipline that arose in direct response to the social problems of
modernity (Harriss 2000, 325); the term most generally refers to the social conditions, processes, and
discourses of 1438 1789 and extending to the 1970s or later (Toulmin 1992, 3 5). Modernity may also
refer to tendencies in intellectual culture, particularly the movements intertwined with secularization
and post industrial life, such as Marxism, existentialism, and the formal establishment of social

But we must take note that it is not limited to hostile or antagonistic opposition; it is not wholly a
clash of coercive powers as often is implied, but of any opposing social powers. When an oppressed
becomes aware of their situation they want change in social order that maybe manifested through
debating, arguing, or disputing; of bargaining powers through haggling, negotiating, and many more.
Deviant people push a society s moral boundaries, suggesting alternatives to the status quo and
encouraging change. According to Durheim todays deviance can be tomorrow s morality . Rallies and
protesters population increase means more people is part of socially constructed reality that emerges in
interaction. According to Emile Durkheim social phenomena must be explained sociologically not
psychologically. In his now classic work, Suicide he was interested in explaining a social
phenomenon, suicide, and employed both data and theory to offer an explanation. By aggregating data
for large groups of people in Europe, Durkheim was able to discern patterns in suicide rates and
connect those patterns with another concept (or variable): religious affiliation. Durkheim found that
Protestants were more likely to commit suicide than were Catholics. At this point, Durkheim s analysis
was still in the data stage; he had not proposed an explanation for the different suicide rates of the two
groups. It was when Durkheim introduced the ideas of anomie and social solidarity that he began

Lyddie By Katherine Paterson Summary
Should workers sign a petition? The book, Lyddie, written by Katherine Paterson, is about a girl
named Lyddie who lived in the 1700 s, working in the factories. In the factories, the workers were
forced to endure the poor environment and a lack of safety working with the machines. Also the
workers were under paid, had long working hours, and the atrocious, dissatisfactory, and lousy living
conditions that were unacceptable. However, signing a petition could help improve work areas and
protect workers rights. The book shows all the hardships and the effects of poor working environment
on Lyddie and the other workers. Living Environment Some may argue that the factories treat workers
well by giving workers a place to stay. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, the workers earned more money than they did in other places. The book says, The pay
reflected her proficiency, she was making almost 2.50 a week above her 1.75 board. (86) Two dollars
and fifty cents was a lot of money back then. This money, workers earn from factories could help
children and people from poor families support their families and to give them a chance to improve
their lives. However, even if wages were better in factories than other places, workers would have to
pay another way, with endangerment to their lives and sometimes even with tier lives. Many workers
would be hurt and die because of these working environment. Which is the price they will have to pay
for higher wages. To add on, as stated in this essay previously the girls aren t making as much as they
should. In Lyddie, workers complain their wages have went lower a lot. Even if factories offer a lot
more money than other places the workers aren t really earning their true wages not to add on the bad
working environment that harm the workers health. A petition has to be signed to protect workers
rights. From all the above arguments, you can clearly see a change is needed to be made to improve
working environments. The petition will help to give workers better living environment for a better
life and safer worker environments so workers would be safe. It will also

Analysis Of Invictus By William Earnest Henley
Invictus by William Earnest Henley is about a man, the courage he has through his struggles, and the
relationship he has with God. When reading this poem I think of my own life as a young girl. She is
someone that I think about a lot and I look at the struggles and how the relationship with God has
changed throughout these challenges. All the evil that had come into her life and she turned to God to
blame because of the beliefs she had of him protecting her. The only way she did not turn to Death is
through hope like Henley with courage. The little painful stories have formed the pain we feel
everyday but also the strength in our lives to keep moving forward.
She was a young girl in high school just trying to be normal. A month of sleeping and inability to get
out of bed, her mother finally got worried and took her to the hospital. Tests were performed,
questions were asked, and she would finally be diagnosed with the trembling words of, You have
depression. She was put on many medications but this would not stop her from putting knives to her
chest and throat, wanting for it all to end. This monster in her head would be there for the rest of her
life, creating the inability to make the chemicals she needed to have to be happy. Everyday prayers
would be made asking God why this was happening to her. As a teenage girl she found love in the
wrong and right places. Her first love was one whose hands were feared by her. The young girl was
unaware of the

Summary Of The Art Of Living Consciously By Nathaniel Branden
In 1999, Nathaniel Branden published a very influential book called The Art of Living Consciously.
This book discussed various ways one can build their self esteem. This is one of many of Branden s
books on self esteem but this one is focusing on the aspect of living consciously. He promotes this as
the idea of living consciously as a healthy aspect of self esteem in a person s mental abilities and
respect for reality. He applies his theory of living consciously to specific aspects of life such as
relationships, parenting, and in the workplace. Branden portrays his ideas in a very approachable way,
many of his sentences seem somewhat open ended so you can you relate it your everyday life. For
example, he states What determines the level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He explains to use how we may be able to live consciously and how we can shift our focus from
consciously living; the flipping the switch as mentioned earlier. He explains that what can help us all
live this way is by knowing what we are doing while we are doing it. Though this may seem like a
very simple task but one that would require some discipline. One of the interesting aspects of Branden
s work is that he walks us through situations we would encounter in our everyday lives and then has
the reader ask themselves questions like How can we be more conscious in this area? and How can we
tell we are doing right? This helps the reader feel more connected with his writing. They may be able
to envision how they can live more conscious and their life and become more aware of how to living
this way. Some of the topics Branden really highlighted throughout his book was the importance of
reason and the commitment of awareness. But he s does this in such a desirable approach, he does not
try to validate his points instead he examines life starting from child and shows how things in life
could have affected your way to practice the principles to live in this state. He writes about the lives of
himself and other involved in his life and puts us in situations showing that to be more aware of the
reality around you can make yourself stand out to others who bury themselves in unconsciousness. Yet
his way of displaying this message is so approachable because he discourages the common idea that
reason rather than experience is the key to knowledge and he also speaks to you through your
experiences that really make you think. This really helps bring the reader closer to the experience
Branden is try to put forth and the stories, exercises and discussions really help portray that message.
Instead of describing the good life, he invites us into discover this life for ourselves which

How Did Sylvia Plath Influence Her Works
Sylvia Plath once said, It is as if my life were magically run by two electric currents: joyous positive
and despairing negative whichever is running at the moment dominates my life, floods it,
(Brainyquote). Sylvia Plath had her despairing negative moments, but she also had her joyous positive
moments. Plath was an extremely talented, unique, and creative writer and her work is still
remembered today. Plath influenced literature in a positive manner because she used her poetry to
stand up for woman, she was not afraid to speak the truth, and she threw herself into her work.
Plath s mother Aurelia Scholoer was a student at Boston University when she met Plath s father Otto
Plath who happened to be her professor (Poets). After Aurelia and Otto were married on October 27,
1932 they had ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1935, when Plath was three, she welcomed a baby brother, Warren. Shortly after, Plath s little
brother was born the family moved to Winthrop, Massachusetts (thefamouspeople). Sadly when Plath

faith in God and remained irresolute about her religion. During this time, she wrote the poem Electra
on Azalea Plath , which was inspired by visits to her father s grave(Thefamouspeople). Plath
continued to make more poetry and earned a scholarship to Smith College in 1950. However, Plath s
junior year in college, she made her first suicide attempt by overdosing on sleeping pills. After six
month of intense shock therapy, Plath returned to Smith College and later earned a Fulbright
Scholarshp to Newhnham College in Cambridge.(Wagner Martin 1). While at Cambridge, Plath met

The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act
Domestic Surveillance Citizens feeling protected in their own nation is a crucial factor for the
development and advancement of that nation. The United States government has been able to provide
this service for a small tax and for the most part it is money well spent. Due to events leading up to the
terrifying attacks on September 11, 2001 and following these attacks, the Unites States government
has begun enacting certain laws and regulations that ensure the safety of its citizens. From the Foreign
Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) of 1978 to the most recent National Security Agency scandal, the
government has attempted and for the most part succeeded in keeping domestic safety under control.
Making sure that the balance between ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This act makes a significant amount of amendments to the FISA act one of which is Title II which is
titled Enhanced Surveillance Procedures. While the FISA act targeted only non US citizens for foreign
intelligence information , this act allows the collection of foreign intelligence information from US
citizens as well. One section which raises a brow is section 215 of the Patriot Act which grants the FBI
permission to ask the FISA court to compel the sharing of books, business documents, tax records,
library check out lists, and pretty much any tangible thing, as part of a foreign intelligence or
international terrorism investigation. Upon further reading of this section it becomes evident fairly
quickly that these required materials can include purely domestic records. Of course, if one has
nothing to hide then one need to fear this act since it is geared towards non US and US citizens
suspected of being affiliated with a foreign power; but later acts seem to notion that perhaps the
United States government is not only concerned with terrorist groups but rather all information of its
citizens and residents which can build patterned profiles.
Under George W. Bush s term, and shortly after the attacks of September 11th 2001, both the
President s Surveillance Program and the Terrorist Surveillance Program have been brought under
scrutiny. Each of the programs authorizes the National Security Agency (NSA) by executive order to
monitor phone calls,

My Passion For Geology
My wanderlust has brought me to venture to multitude of places throughout my life so far. Having
visited the Swiss Alps, Mount Seorak in South Korea and even Mount Kinabalu from back home, had
always left me with an impression of how awe inspiring Mother Nature is. Other than that, I have also
ventured into numerous caves such as Gua Tempurung and Gua Niah; it was while venturing the latter
was where I realized my passion for Geology. It was my first ever experience caving and I
remembered turning off my flashlight and imagining how people actual, ancient, living people
occupying these caves. I remembered only hearing the faint sounds water dripping from the
stalagmites and the echo of footsteps from afar. For this reason, I realized my love for nature and I
would be glad to spend the rest of my life to preserve these sites for generations to come
As a child, I had always pondered on how humans were able to survive life without electricity, without
tap water or houses. These questions had always intrigued me; and it was by studying Science that I
found the answers. As a result, I would spent a huge portion of my childhood reading books on the ...

was important to my hometown, was detrimental to the corals there. This damage was also prominent
in the corals in Sabah which I visited during my last holiday. As much as it pains me to see these
ecosystems falls into disarray, I do realise how much the locals depended on these sites as their source
of income. By studying Geology, I wish to help my country especially the states in the island of
Borneo to better manage the ecosystem in order for future generations to

Stanford Business School professor, David Montgomery and his co author Marvin Lieberman first
popularized the concept of First Mover Advantage in a 1988 paper. This concept became the sole
reason for out of control expenditure by start ups in order to attain a monopoly like status. But there
was just one problem This concept was simply not true. Ironically, 10 years later, the authors of the
paper backed off their claims but by then every other firm was using this phrase in justification of
their reckless Get big fast strategy. In their paper Pioneer advantage: Marketing logic or marketing
legend? Peter N. Golder and Gerard J. Tellis better explained the fate of Early movers entering new
markets. Their research showed that Early Movers typically had a 47% failure rate. What s worse was
that their studies showed that the survivors had a lower market share than found in other studies.
Furthermore, their research showed that long term success was almost guaranteed to the second, third,
fourth or even tenth entrant with a success rate of ~92% (Source

  • 2. A Comparison Of Nicholas And The American Restoration... Allen Diles, in A Comparison of Nicholas of Pelhrimov and the Taborite Restoration with Alexander Campbell and the American Restoration Movement, attempts to relate religious movements that occurred more than four centuries apart: the Taborite Restoration and the American Restoration. Further focus is place on the leaders of these movements, Nicholas of Pelhrimov and Alexander Campbell. A connection between these two men is scarcely made; moreover, many students of religion are ignorant to the existence of the Taborite Restoration and Nicholas of Pelhrimov. Diles endeavor to connect these men and the reformation movements they were involved in was lucrative, as it connected a semi modern movement with a little known medieval movement, but his presentation of the connection between these movements prevents the connection from emerging in a manner as compelling as it possibly could have. Diles composes his article in response to the neglect of the Hussite movement, of which the Taborites formed the radical wing of, in modern times and the often exclusion of Nicholas of Pelhrimov, an individual whom he feels was critical, when the Hussite movement is studied. In his thesis, Diles states, Although Nicholas himself is obscure to Americans and among scholars of the Stone Campbell Movement, the Taborite movement is rarely mentioned, and examination of Nicholas and his movement reveals striking similarities in thought, if not in form, between the medieval Taborite reform and that ... Knowing the genetic variation of a species will able one to predict some of the traits in the population for future offspring s, it can also help one to know if whether the population is evolving or not by looking at the alleles of a population. • 5. Solar Panels, Hydropower, And Wind Turbines DISCUSSION How Biomass Works Solar panels, hydropower, and wind turbines are all well known renewable resources. However, one of the most prevalent sources for energy is often overlooked. Biomass is a renewable and sustainable energy resource that uses organic materials to generate electricity. ( Biomass Power Association. ) Biomass energy is made from any form of previously living material. This includes any animal material or product, all vegetation, and even human waste. Scrap lumber, forest debris, crops, manure, and even industrial wastes can all be utilized and turned into renewable energy through biomass. Often leftover materials from factories such as paper mills are used to help sustain the renewable resource. However, this process tends to be inefficient and unreliable (Mary, Booth), so frequently biomass energy is instead produced by cutting down forests or converting crops such as sugar or corn into combustible fuels. Biomass is considered a renewable resource because organic material and waste will always exist. Whether this is through forests, crops, or animals, as long as humans inhabit the earth there will be waste to utilize. [figure 2] Although biomass is sometimes considered inefficient in comparison to other fuels, biomass fuels have two strengths when compared to widely used fossil fuels. The first reason is the time difference there is between fossil fuels and biomass. One example would be coal. In nature coal requires close to 400 million ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Webster dictionary a computer is defined as a programmable usually electronic device that can store, retrieve, and process data (Merriam Webster). Whether it be a laptop, desk top, tablet or phone, it is essential to learn about computers in order to function in the 21st century. Computers are found everywhere in society. • 13. Role Of Investment And Commercial Banks Play On The Global... Introduction: This paper will examine the roles that investment and commercial banks play in creating and predicting systemic risk in the global economy. This topic is of particular relevance due to the events that unfolded in the economic sphere nearly a decade ago during the financial crisis of 2007 2008. Our study will provide a detailed rendering of the crisis, outlining each of the key factors that contributed to the crash in an attempt to gain a better understanding of what happened and how to avoid similar events from unfolding in the future. Much of our study hinges on the role of banks on the markets and their influence over global systemic risk. In order to establish a link between bank prices and economic trends, we will focus our analysis on one key metric, Value at Risk (VaR). A powerful statistical measurement, VaR is used to assess a firm s potential loss over a certain period of time. To generate a diversified and complete quantitative analysis, our calculation will incorporate pricing data from January 1st, 2000 to November 30th, 2016 of eleven of the most prevalent banks in the US financial system: Bank of America Merrill Lynch, Barclays, Citi Bank, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank, Goldman Sachs, HSBC, JP Morgan, Royal Bank of Canada, UBS, and Wells Fargo. The constitution can no longer serve the purpose it was designed adequately. Weakness to modern society and strong resistance to change has made this country almost immune to change. Louis Michael Seidman, a Carmack Water House Professor of Constitutional law at Georgetown University Law Center in Washington D.C. suggest that the Constitution is no longer useful for the modern day society because the constitution is old fashioned. Seidman points out some of the out dated and dysfunctional systems implemented by the constitution, such as revenue measure must originate in the lower chamber and the fact that the political system keeps people from debating the merits of divisive issues. • 15. The Soviet Union Of The 19th Century The Beginning The idea of having the RSFSR as a enemy towards the Soviet Union at the time of the 19th century was one of the biggest reasons why the Soviet Union took such a big downfall when it collapsed. The RSFSR was a opposing group that was branched off from the Soviet Union, resulting from a argument over political standings and power for both groups.1 The RSFSR wanted a representative to stand during the meetings of the Soviet Union, however the Soviet Union did not grant that because the representative did not win in the voting, but candidate that was favored by the USSR won. The RSFSR was one of the main reasons why the Soviet Union had collapsed by the end of the 19th century, including a number of other factors as well. Despite the grudges, the Soviet Union and the RSFSR were both branched together at one point. That point didn t last very long, but starting from the beginning, the Soviet Union rose to its power throughout the 20th century. The rise of the Soviet Union The Soviet Union was officially established during December during the year of 1922, with the union of the Soviet republics from Russia, Ukraine, Byelorussia, and Transcaucasia, which were all each ruled by local Bolshevik parties. • 17. The Characteristics Of Grammar And Grammar In The Arabic... PHONOLOGY AND SYLLABLE The syllable and grammar for the second era are subject to be studied in commensuration with the phonology of the Arabic language in a multi linguistic scenario of community. This is due to the fact that most of the communications at the regional level are oral by nature. Thus, the features of grammar and syllable cannot be ignored. It has been identified by Kahn (1976) that a mere hypothetical word atkin is not used and identified in English but without a syllable. The arrangements of the letters neither assumed later and former use of letters. But, there is a central place exists in few words; such as, Caltex . Because of this, such types of words are not found easily in the English literature because of the placement and arrangements of the letters in the word. The next matter of consideration is the segmental phonology rules; assimilation, length, neutralization, affrication, use of consonant and vowels. These rules are considered in alignment with the syllables of the word. A Syllable can use the segmental phonology rules; thus, the element of pharyngealization is observed rather than the use of other rules and practices. Moreover, the elements of rules are determined through the use of various functions; hence, there is obstruent exist in English which are the factors talk about the placement of the letter or the word. Some scholars have argued that democracy hinders growth as a result of a collective action problem, while others argue it is the democratic institutions constraining government, and providing individual property rights which allows for economic growth (Montesquieu, 1748; Smith, 1776; Buchanan and Tullock, 1962; North and Thomas, 1973; North, 1981, 1990; Hall and Jones, 1999; Easterly and Levine, 2003; Rodrik, 2007). Finally, Wintrobe (1998) argues that the authoritarian elite successfully rules by repressing some in the population while nurturing the loyalty of others. Similarly, the threat of a rebellion by the opposition compels the dictator to share rents in Gandhi and Przeworski (2006). The literature on rent seeking suggests a means by which alternatives to collective action can insulate state actors from societal interests (Mares, 1993: 457). Rent creation implies rent distribution, creating incentives for rent seeking in the domestic economy; even efficient firms will devote resources either to capture the rents or to lobby for their elimination (Buchanan, p.35). Bates work on Africa demonstrates that, rather than simply buying off societal opposition, state actors can distribute rents to build supportive policy coalitions (1981). A second way for state actors to build a winning policy coalition is to help potential supporters of state preferences overcome barriers to collective action through their power to tax and regulate. In that photo is a mask referencing the same mask that Montag referred to as his happiness after he thought about Clarisse s question Are you happy? (Bradbury, Ray 10) . Montag truly thinks about this question later after he goes into his bedroom ready to go to bed. He thinks about the question and comes up with an answer, He was not happy... He wore his happiness like a mask and the girl [Clarisse] had run off across the lawn with the mask and there was no way of getting it back (12). So in this painting I thought about the mask that Clarisse had that belonged to Montag, I painted a mask with a huge grin symbolizing Montag s happiness. He was searching for answers and knowledge, for clarity, And I gave my heart to seek and search out by wisdom concerning all things that are done under heaven: this sore travail hath God given to the sons of man to be exercised therewith (King James Bible Ecclesiastes 1 13). • 29. Application of the Vitalistic and Mechanistic Philosophies... With regards to vitalism and mechanism, there lacks a distinct boundary separating these two scientific philosophies. However, their implications and biases when slanted either particular way are significant enough to observe. Natural history has been the subject of great debate, scrutiny, and passion amongst many scientists from early on in biology to present times. Currently mechanism has risen to be the dominant theory in biology, but not without hardship and deep philosophical reasoning supported by empirical evidence. To understand these two philosophies, it s imperative to establish a clear understanding of what each category represents. The mechanistic philosophy purports that life operates as mechanical process governed by the fundamental physical laws provided via the universe. This philosophy goes further in thought that there is not necessarily a designer or ultimate purpose for the execution of life in general. In contrast, vitalist philosophy claims that there is an innate specific quality and function that gives existence its ultimate characteristics. Folks in this line of thought tend to argue further that there is definite design and purpose living entities, implying the existence of a celestial super power or being that interacts making life what it is. The piece of oil painting vividly depicts the nineteenth century French rural life, with a rich flavor of harvest. Interactivity is one of the key differences between quite a few of these games. Casino games, of course depending on the type, have very little interactivity. • 41. Age Related Hearing Loss Presbycusis The human body in itself is an incredible masterpiece, but particularly how we as humans hear and perceive sound is amazing. Our ears are used in various aspects of life including enjoying music, following directions, and just its use in everyday conversation. As we grow older our hearing abilities tend to decline which can be a natural part of the aging process. Hearing loss that is associated with older age is known as presbycusis (Huang, Q., Tang, J. , 2010). There are more people that suffer hearing loss in their later years due to increased life expectancy (ŠESTIĆ, M. R., MILIĆEVIĆ, S. (2013). According to research conducted in both the United States and Australia, the average elderly person waits 6 10 years before the go and receive help (ŠESTIĆ, M. R., MILIĆEVIĆ, S. (2013). That is a substantial amount of time where their ability to communicate effectively has been affected negatively affected and the degree of loss most likely has worsened. In addition to delaying treatment, the majority of those who are diagnosed choose to not wear their hearing aids (Öberg, M. 2015). In a separate study, the participants who had a range of ages from 55 80 were asked how often they would use their hearing aid. The answers given were then organized into three categories, Always, when I need them , or doubtful on when to use it The results were, the most common answer of the oldest participants was doubtful about when to use it. Typical comments from those who were doubtful included I will try to use them, and I hope I could get used to them (Öberg, M. 2015). The age range for the oldest group was 76 to 80. • 42. Modernism vs. Post-Modernism Modernism sociologically, is a discipline that arose in direct response to the social problems of modernity (Harriss 2000, 325); the term most generally refers to the social conditions, processes, and discourses of 1438 1789 and extending to the 1970s or later (Toulmin 1992, 3 5). Modernity may also refer to tendencies in intellectual culture, particularly the movements intertwined with secularization and post industrial life, such as Marxism, existentialism, and the formal establishment of social science. But we must take note that it is not limited to hostile or antagonistic opposition; it is not wholly a clash of coercive powers as often is implied, but of any opposing social powers. When an oppressed becomes aware of their situation they want change in social order that maybe manifested through debating, arguing, or disputing; of bargaining powers through haggling, negotiating, and many more. Deviant people push a society s moral boundaries, suggesting alternatives to the status quo and encouraging change. According to Durheim todays deviance can be tomorrow s morality . Rallies and protesters population increase means more people is part of socially constructed reality that emerges in interaction. According to Emile Durkheim social phenomena must be explained sociologically not psychologically. In his now classic work, Suicide he was interested in explaining a social phenomenon, suicide, and employed both data and theory to offer an explanation. By aggregating data for large groups of people in Europe, Durkheim was able to discern patterns in suicide rates and connect those patterns with another concept (or variable): religious affiliation. Durkheim found that Protestants were more likely to commit suicide than were Catholics. At this point, Durkheim s analysis was still in the data stage; he had not proposed an explanation for the different suicide rates of the two groups. It was when Durkheim introduced the ideas of anomie and social solidarity that he began ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. Lyddie By Katherine Paterson Summary Should workers sign a petition? The book, Lyddie, written by Katherine Paterson, is about a girl named Lyddie who lived in the 1700 s, working in the factories. In the factories, the workers were forced to endure the poor environment and a lack of safety working with the machines. Also the workers were under paid, had long working hours, and the atrocious, dissatisfactory, and lousy living conditions that were unacceptable. However, signing a petition could help improve work areas and protect workers rights. The book shows all the hardships and the effects of poor working environment on Lyddie and the other workers. This money, workers earn from factories could help children and people from poor families support their families and to give them a chance to improve their lives. When reading this poem I think of my own life as a young girl. She is someone that I think about a lot and I look at the struggles and how the relationship with God has changed throughout these challenges. All the evil that had come into her life and she turned to God to blame because of the beliefs she had of him protecting her. The only way she did not turn to Death is through hope like Henley with courage. A month of sleeping and inability to get out of bed, her mother finally got worried and took her to the hospital. Tests were performed, questions were asked, and she would finally be diagnosed with the trembling words of, You have depression. She was put on many medications but this would not stop her from putting knives to her chest and throat, wanting for it all to end. This monster in her head would be there for the rest of her life, creating the inability to make the chemicals she needed to have to be happy. • 45. Summary Of The Art Of Living Consciously By Nathaniel Branden In 1999, Nathaniel Branden published a very influential book called The Art of Living Consciously. This book discussed various ways one can build their self esteem. This is one of many of Branden s books on self esteem but this one is focusing on the aspect of living consciously. He promotes this as the idea of living consciously as a healthy aspect of self esteem in a person s mental abilities and respect for reality. He applies his theory of living consciously to specific aspects of life such as relationships, parenting, and in the workplace. Branden portrays his ideas in a very approachable way, many of his sentences seem somewhat open ended so you can you relate it your everyday life. For example, he states What determines the level ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He explains to use how we may be able to live consciously and how we can shift our focus from consciously living; the flipping the switch as mentioned earlier. He explains that what can help us all live this way is by knowing what we are doing while we are doing it. Though this may seem like a very simple task but one that would require some discipline. One of the interesting aspects of Branden s work is that he walks us through situations we would encounter in our everyday lives and then has the reader ask themselves questions like How can we be more conscious in this area? and How can we tell we are doing right? This helps the reader feel more connected with his writing. They may be able to envision how they can live more conscious and their life and become more aware of how to living this way. Some of the topics Branden really highlighted throughout his book was the importance of reason and the commitment of awareness. But he s does this in such a desirable approach, he does not try to validate his points instead he examines life starting from child and shows how things in life could have affected your way to practice the principles to live in this state. He writes about the lives of himself and other involved in his life and puts us in situations showing that to be more aware of the reality around you can make yourself stand out to others who bury themselves in unconsciousness. Yet his way of displaying this message is so approachable because he discourages the common idea that reason rather than experience is the key to knowledge and he also speaks to you through your experiences that really make you think. This really helps bring the reader closer to the experience Branden is try to put forth and the stories, exercises and discussions really help portray that message. Instead of describing the good life, he invites us into discover this life for ourselves which ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The United States government has been able to provide this service for a small tax and for the most part it is money well spent. This act makes a significant amount of amendments to the FISA act one of which is Title II which is titled Enhanced Surveillance Procedures. While the FISA act targeted only non US citizens for foreign intelligence information , this act allows the collection of foreign intelligence information from US citizens as well. One section which raises a brow is section 215 of the Patriot Act which grants the FBI permission to ask the FISA court to compel the sharing of books, business documents, tax records, library check out lists, and pretty much any tangible thing, as part of a foreign intelligence or international terrorism investigation. Upon further reading of this section it becomes evident fairly quickly that these required materials can include purely domestic records. Of course, if one has nothing to hide then one need to fear this act since it is geared towards non US and US citizens suspected of being affiliated with a foreign power; but later acts seem to notion that perhaps the United States government is not only concerned with terrorist groups but rather all information of its citizens and residents which can build patterned profiles. Under George W. Bush s term, and shortly after the attacks of September 11th 2001, both the President s Surveillance Program and the Terrorist Surveillance Program have been brought under scrutiny.
