As I began reading James Baldwins passage, Notes of a Native son , I was
immediately filled with emotion. He began his very first sentence by stating that his
father had died. I started to imagine to myself, what it would be like if I was Baldwin.
I could not imagine what I would do if I lost my father today. He is my hero. I have
some previous knowledge of the Harlem riots because I did a project on them
when I was a junior, but reading Baldwin s first hand experience opened my eyes

Challenges:
One of the challenges as an adaptive intern at Tiger s gymnastics is working with
kids with a wide range of disabilities. Most of these disabilities I have never been
introduced to before, and what I am learning is that the actives I do with one kid,
might not be an option for another. The best method I have figured out, is to take
things slow. I let the gymnast set the pace, and I react based off their confidence level
and willingness to participate.
A lot of the gymnasts I work with have limited verbal communication skills. How
they express their wants or displeasure may come in the form of grunts, screams, or
physical movement. Recognizing and deciphering these actions at times can be
tricky. Giving the gymnasts plenty of notification on what we are going to do next,
and paying attention to their body language when a request is given, seems to reduce
the amount of times that they will panic or be unhappy with what is going on.
One challenge that I have faced internally, is not being afraid to be goofy around the
kids. At first, I was worried that acting silly would be embarrassing, but I quickly
realized that it didn t matter. The point is that the gymnasts have a good time and
enjoy themselves, and not my own level of comfortability. Once I got over the fear
embarrassed, I realized that all the coaches around me were doing the same thing,

once a week. Once we graduated high school we both ended up going in different
directions for college. In high school, Theo became very interested and involved in

discusses her love for concerts and music but she argues that tickets have become

Iconoclast both deal with themes of obtaining new information and deciding whether

s public baths, that the water has been contaminated and any future use of the

The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a political and social protest campaign against
racial segregation. The boycott started on December 5, 1955, until December 20,
1956, in Montgomery, Alabama. African Americans had to get up out of there seats
if they were asked by a white citizen and sit in the back of the bus or stand. The bus
boycott lasted 381 days. Rosa Parkswas known for playing a big role in the

evident by its usage among both women and men. According to a statistics website
called nationmaster.com about 20% of the Korean population have had some kind
work done on them. It is estimated that women between the ages of 20 and 50 years
old underwent the knife for some reason, be it eyelid surgery or a nose job. While the
act of cosmetic surgery mainly occurs in women, it has estimated that about 44% of
college men think about getting plastic surgery at some point in their lives
(nationmaster.com). In 2010 the number of Korean men who had cosmetic surgery
was around 15% based on the Korean Association for Plastic Surgeons estimations.
Any attempts to explain the high popularity of cosmetic surgery in South Korea
mostly frames it in two ways: 1) Koreans have the desire to look more like white
people or 2) according to feminists it is the continued subjection of women to
patriarchal ideas. (Kim 2009). However, this is a very limited way of explaining
why plastic surgery is so important to in South Korea because the issue is more
